Not sure what obscure tumblr niche this is gonna fall into, but I recently discovered the 1980s beetlejuice cartoon and I am SOO hyperfixated on it and just beetlejuice in general right now.

Anywhos here are some sketches of my designs for Lyds and BJ for a hypothetical Beetlejuice the animated series revamp! I hope you like them!

⫸Strange but Sweet⫷

(Ps! This is my first ever fanfic :3 I hope you like it <3)

You hadn’t expected much when you summoned Beetlejuice. It was supposed to be just a bit of fun—test out that book of the dead you found, maybe meet a ghost or two. But Beetlejuice was… different. Sure, he was crude, a bit wild, but something about that messy green hair and the constant barrage of jokes had pulled you in.

The first time he appeared, you jumped in surprise as he erupted from the ground in a cloud of purple smoke. His mismatched eyes found yours instantly, and he grinned that sharp, toothy grin.

"Well, well, well. Didn’t think someone as cute as you would be calling me up. You lonely, handsome?"

You blushed, feeling your stomach flip. "I, uh, just wanted to see if the spell worked."

"Oh, it worked, babe." He sauntered closer, his striped suit making him stand out in the gloomy room. His fingers were quick to curl around your wrist, his touch surprisingly warm. "And lucky for you, you got me! The Ghost with the Most."

You rolled your eyes but couldn’t help smiling. Beetlejuice had a way of worming into your good graces. He was always loud and obnoxious, but it was almost… endearing. He never failed to make you laugh, even when you were trying your best not to.

As the weeks went by, Beetlejuice became a frequent visitor to your home. You’d be making coffee, and he’d pop out of your fridge with a cheesy one-liner. You’d be reading, and suddenly he’d be sprawled across your couch, complaining about how boring the afterlife was.

Yet, despite his chaotic energy, you found yourself growing attached to him. Maybe it was the way his eyes softened when he thought you weren’t looking. Or maybe it was how he’d stop mid-rant about the afterlife to check in on you, asking if you were doing okay with a surprising gentleness in his voice.

One night, you were lying on your bed, staring up at the ceiling, when Beetlejuice appeared beside you in a puff of smoke. He grinned lazily and flopped down next to you.

"What’s got you all broody, huh?" he asked, his head propped up on one arm.

You shrugged, glancing over at him. "Just thinking."

He wriggled closer until his side pressed against yours, his chaotic energy suddenly muted. "Thinking about me?" He smirked, but there was something softer underneath it.

"Maybe," you admitted, feeling your heart race at how close he was.

Beetlejuice’s grin widened, but his hand found yours, and he squeezed lightly. "You know, for a guy who’s still alive, you’re pretty dead set on having me around."

You rolled your eyes, but a smile tugged at your lips. "Maybe I like you, Beetlejuice."

He blinked, clearly taken aback. For a second, you thought you might’ve gone too far, but then he let out a soft laugh, his eyes crinkling at the edges.

"Well, babe," he said, leaning in until his nose was practically brushing yours, "I guess it’s a good thing I like you too."

And before you could say anything else, Beetlejuice closed the gap between you, his lips warm and surprisingly soft against yours. It wasn’t what you expected—there was no roughness, no teasing. Just him, pouring everything into the kiss with a sincerity that you hadn’t seen from him before.

When he pulled back, his eyes were shining, and for once, he seemed at a loss for words.

"That… wasn’t so bad," he finally muttered, trying to play it cool, but you could see the warmth in his gaze.

You chuckled, your heart light as you leaned in for another kiss. "Not bad at all."

From that moment on, Beetlejuice became more than just a mischievous ghost. He was your mischievous ghost, and though life with him was chaotic and strange, it was also sweet in a way you never expected.
