I'm 130 pages into the Obelisk Gate and I have theories™
The orogenes and the obelisks kinda act as the moon, since there is no moon (I still can't cope with that fact. I mean in terms of stability, also I don't remember book 1 talking about tide cycles (if it did the plot twist would have been more foreseeable) but I really need to know how the fuck does it work without a moon. I mean clearly, their Earth is fucked and not having a moon is probably a main reason why. So yeah I think the obelisks are somehow acting as the moon, and I guess it's gonna be all fun and games (or not) when an orogene decides to pull out the fucking moon back to earth's orbit. I mean if she's still somewhere in space or if they artificially recreate a new moon or whatever. The moon thing is so wild, I'm barely apprehending what it all entails tbh.
Second theory. Now this one is solely based on the very first Schaffa's POV chapter I've read so it's probably wrong. But I think there's a link between the Guardians and the stone eaters. I only made that assumption because when Schaffa and whatever possesses him now, drained people it immediately made me think of the stone eater who apparently eat orogenes. Seriously what the fuck? And it was clearly said that he was fed better with orogenes so yeah. That, also the fact that stone eater are apparently forming bonds with an orogene in particular, quite like a orogene is bound to their guardian. I mean there's definitely something shady going there. I genuinely can't wait to discover what's fucked up with the guardians, we've only had little things for now but I guess book 2 is gonna dive deeper into that lore. I expect for it to be very fucked up.
Anyway I'm very early in the book so this might be completely wrong, I will probably readjust my thoughts while progressing. However I might pride myself in having guessed some things right in the first book. Imo it was very good at making the reader guess and theorise about some stuff, while hiding something big in plain sight. Like the fucking moon. Seriously I think about that every night when I look at the moon now. I'm glad to have her.

It's so interesting and so exceedingly frustrating how agab is being utilized now within the queer community as a way to isolate and sort nonbinary and genderqueer folks into binary boxes that determine their moral purity levels, and their authority to do and write and exist.
The way nonbinary writers are being put under accusation of fetishizing gay men while their AGAB is continually brought up in a way that feels like queer-space-approved misgendering.
The way feminist circles that are supposedly trans-inclusive will use the word AFAB in a way that implicitly but intentionally isolates nonbinary people who aren't AFAB from joining. It's for women*.
The way the language is already flawed and leaves out intersex folks from the conversations while focusing on a binary of sex that isn't truthful.
The constant obsessing over whether someone is AFAB or AMAB and whether or not that gives them the privilege to join, do, write, or be present in certain spaces really really concerns me. How are we supposed to dismantle a binary system of gender if we can't even move past forcibly assigning and focusing on people's genders assigned at birth?

you ever think about how di feisheng absolutely has a moment (several moments) of total fridge horror about how he spent ten years in the jianghu ICU cave in varying states of helpless/weakness
and he absolutely wouldn't have suspected a thing until it was way the fuck too late if saintess had decided to go full torture pool noncon wedding at like. any point in those ten fucking years.
just like. at full power, and knowing that saintess was working against him, she still managed to cripple him and attic wife him (wet edition). and he got out of that because li xiangyi and li xiangyi's disciple and kinda the entire baichuan court showed up to rescue his ass.
but prior to that, any point in that ten years of seclusion, he'd have been at less than 60% of his power, defended by... wuyan? maybe?? who was also presumably doing his own healing, and medicine demon (maybe) who is explicitly Not Good At Fighting.
and no one would be looking for him. no one would be coming to help. if anyone found out he was being held by her, it would be -- at best, it would be what the demon lord deserved.

kinda related, I reblogged a poll not long ago about if you have celebrity crushes and how you define that, where one of the options was: "it means I fantasise about having sex/a relationship with them." and people in the notes were like ewww, who does That, that's weird. which. huh. the amount of people agreeing with that sentiment struck me as odd. that's a very normal experience lol.
it's literally just a fantasy. it Could be a problem if it were maladaptive or developed into something parasocial that affected your actions in reality, but not inherently. daydreaming about people you find attractive is fine.

Honestly, I see misty, mossy forest pictures and all I hear now is a desperately sung "私は獣にあなたは妖精に生まれ..."
"I a beast and you a fairy were we born...
Just for this one twinkling of a human moment tasting each other, we live..."
"Body like willowy torchlight softly cast
The color of the lake shadowy but also rather of a deep lamentation"
"Even breath forgetting...
Your voice far away...
'You will know I...am not...here...' "
"If there is writhing agony
In your heart's depths...
'I have known that you...are not...here...' "
"I a beast and you a fairy were we born...
Just for this one twinkling of a human moment tasting each other, we live..."
"No one even knows..."
"On the b e d of the l a k e..."
"If this is a dream I beg to just remain in it...always...forever..."

A little mend here that I was pleasantly surprised worked, I fixed the fraying bits on my book-shaped wallet! Figured that red thread works quite well with the themes of War of the Worlds.
First up, we've got some simple stitches perpendicular to the edge of the wallet, think a blanket stitch but the thread doesn't run through the loop created. Honestly, there are probably more complex ways I could have stitched that vinyl "leather" back onto the fabric and cardboard of the book structure, but I figured these simple stitches would be faster, and work just fine.
Second, on a slightly larger tear on the "spine" corner, I did some randa stitching! This actually draws from a style of embroidery I'm almost completely unfamiliar with, most popular in Brazil, so I may be labeling it wrong. If you know better, let me know! It's a sort of baseball-stitching like process, I was roughly following this video as a tutorial: https://vm.vxtiktok.com/t/ZT8TNMKw9/
and also this one to understand how to get started: https://vm.vxtiktok.com/t/ZT8TNrMML/ (Excuse the tiktok links, but I am not immune to the allure of short video on occasion! I even have posts of my own, every now and again)
I actually need to do similar rim-lining on the other three corners, as the adhesive is starting to come off, and that'll hold it still enough to solve the problem.
Also, some miscellaneous adventures in hemming patches properly! A process that proved MUCH simpler once I found my rolled hem foot. These two patches came out quite good, actually! straight stitching, for the most part, and relatively even folds.
It was much simpler to get the hems just so on a larger patch like this one, thankfully! I'm actually really pleased with the way this one in particular came out, and hopefully, I can make something pretty with it on the thigh of the jeans it goes with. (yes, that's why the patches are numbered, so I can keep track of where they go in the stack!)
Even despite how well things went overall with the patches, I still fumbled, got a bit hasty in trying to get the corner of one of the later patches through the machine. Said haste had me trying to shove shove, cram cram the fabric through the foot to get it hemmed, turns out, don't do that! Results in bending the needle on my machine! Oof!
Luckily, the machine came with some spare needles, so it only slowed me down a little bit!

Your influence in this world doesn't need to be all-encompassing and World Changing. It can be small ripples. It can be gentle and easily missed.
Let yourself do small things. So often, people have this idea that to do "good things," it must be a grand gesture that changes every little thing. Honestly, that can be so intimidating and scary. We weren't meant to carry the world by ourselves. We each contribute, often in small ways, often in ways that aren't seen by everybody. But the people you affect might just take that kindness you gave them and let it light them home. Let yourself be that in whatever way you want. You don't need to carry the world alone.

HAPPY BLOG ANNIVERSARY!
it's officially midnight here, which means i'm allowed to post this! so ... happy one year anniversary of enduring the plague of avalon upon your dashboards! alternatively, thank you so much for giving me a place to babble about my #1 favorite comfort character who has experienced zero comfort. ( i swear i am being SO NORMAL about this. yes i did literally buy cake and party hats. ) whether we speak on the daily, you've just gotten here or anywhere in between, i want to extend my sincerest gratitude for being on this absolutely wild ride of a blog with me. there's been ups and downs, but ultimately i feel like my passion for writing has been ignited stronger than it's ever been before. i am still always so excited whenever i get the chance to log on here and create stories with all of you — and i wouldn't have that opportunity if it wasn't for this little corner of the internet you've helped make truly special.
there are so many of you i feel lucky to have met. ( and so many i would love to get to know better, too! ) i hope we can continue writing together for many more anniversaries to come. and if the day ever comes that they finally pull the plug on this cockroach of a hellsite, i'll forever remember this community as the rpc that got me to laugh at petrichor.
have a wonderful day / night! i'm sharing the cake with everyone in spirit.

also: talking about jikook being close isn't shipping
no one's celebrating their enlistment, we are happy they won't be alone
i'm tired of all this discourse and jikookers being called the same as taekookers when every jikooker I personally follow never cross a line
it is literally ridiculous to be comparing jikookers to the people who are currently having a mental breakdown online, send death threats to jimin, call jikook every negative thing under the sun, come up with delusional things which DID NOT happen
if people want to think jimin and jungkook are dating when we have no confirmation (or obvious evidence like taennie) that they are in a relationship with someone then I beg to understand how that's homophobic. if anything it's homophobic to claim there is no way they could be dating when if any het pairing ever act sus everyone automatically accepts they're dating.

i'm honestly at a loss for words. i was expecting a straightforward "thank you for your email! i support israel and blahblahblah" not "thank you for supporting israel!" because i said no such thing ??? i sent a long detailed email expressing my disgust towards israel and saying i support palestine — the crazy part is that this response was sent twice, word for word

Everybody is thirsting over Tenoch Huerta, and I agree that he's so so hot but the sexiest thing about him is his soul.
Every time I'm watching an interview of him, I'm humbled by how much he brings into the conversation.
I've personally never really seen a male actor talk so vocally about colorism and racism in the entertainment industry and in soctiey (the only ones I can think about right now are John Boyega and Jesse Williams) but it's something that isn't so common.
Tenoch talks about it so unapologetically and actually says the words, he doesn't sugarcoat it or minimizes it. He not afraid to talk about how racism and colorism are still present in Mexican society.
He's not afraid to talk about what the movie means to him, he's not afraid to talk about his origins, his history, about how for hundreds of years Mexican people with Indegenous origins like him were thought to be ashamed of those origins, and how they were taught to be ashamed of their ancestors, how it's a trauma shared with all the people who were "conquered" but how proud he is of his origins now.
He's not making his way by trying to blend in but by being himself.
Another example I have in mind was in a talk show the other day he was asked a question about accents and explained how accents are part of our identity, it's our linguistic identity. He gave the example of "American English" and "British English", he went on to explain how you can't really say that one or the other is the correct accent, it's just different linguistic identity. Let me tell you, I had never thought of accent that way but, wow.
He explained how happy he was that Ryan Coogler wanted to keep his accent and didn't ask him to work on it or change it and made it part of his character.
I'm mesmerized by the way he talks about such important issues, I mesmerized by the way he talks about his castmates, I mesmerized by the way he doesn't let any question destabilize him and just choses to be unapologetically himself.
