I thought he was pretty good. I think he is well designed for the first gym you confront in the games. I found him easy to take down, but not too easy, so I managed to enjoy the fight with him. I also found his gym challenge to be fun, and he was great to battle at the rematches and a good ally at the Galarian Star Tournament. While I found his design a bit weird, at first (The way his nose was made), but I found him to be nice and I really liked reading both his league cards.

Nessa

Actually, it was only after watching the Twilight Wings episode of her that I started to like her. In the game, I found her rather uninteresting, but I found her League cards rather interesting to read. Her gym was a fun puzzle, I admit, but I never really thought her difficult to battle, especially her Drednaw, which would always go down after 1 max overgrowth. But after watching her episode of Twilight Wings, I started to like her more. I liked that her modeling career if further explored and how she handles having two full-time careers and how she strengthens her resolve to manage both, even if others suggest otherwise.

Kabu

I think this is one of the best Gym Leaders in Galar. He has one of the most challenging gym challenges, I’ve actually had to do it a few times before finally being able to face Kabu. And he was a tough opponent to fight, both in the gym battle and the rematches. The game mentioned that he was considered a roadblock, that challengers would give up because he was too tough, and the game did a good job with supporting that statement. Even when I had Pokémon that would be strong against fire-types, he was still tough to fight. I also liked his character and wished he could’ve had his own episode in the Twilight Wings series.

Allister

I absolutely love Allister! I just think he is so cute! Honestly, I wanted to just snuggle him and gush over him like Luz did to King in the Owl House. Twilight Wings made him even more adorable to me, the voice actor did a good job. His gym challenge was pretty fun too, reminded me of a carnival ride. While he wasn’t too tough to fight, he wasn’t weak either, and I had a lot fun battling him and thought he had great Pokémon on his team. Honestly, I want an Allister doll now.

Bea

This was another character that I only became interested in after watching Twilight Wings. She has a great design, but she reminded me too much of Maylene, the Sinnoh Fighting Gym Leader. But her episode made me interested in her. When I finally faced her in Sword, I admit, she was pretty tough to fight, but I felt the gym challenge suited Allister better. I felt like it clashed with Bea’s stoic, serious, fighting-type style. But nonetheless, I enjoyed fighting her, like Allister, she had great Pokémon on her team.

Opal

I think she is definitely one of the best Gym Leaders, I thought she was perfect as a Fairy Gym Leader. Her challenge questions were tricky, she really shows the mischievous aspect of Fairies. She was also a fun opponent to battle, and I was upset that I could have rematches with her, but I was ecstatic when she was part of the Galarian Star Tournament! She was so eccentric and strange, I loved it. And I really loved it when she took Bede in and trained him as his successor, she is much better for him than Rose and Oleana were.

Melony

There’s not much to say about this one. The game talks mentions that she’s tough, but honestly, she was the easiest one to fight in the game. The only real challenge was the gym challenge, and that was a nightmare to go through, I could never understand those weird detectors you’re given, so I ended up falling countless times before getting past each section of the challenge. Though I really like her design and I love her league cards, I like how it connects with the fact she’s Gordie’s mother. Wish we could’ve seen them interact, but maybe the Pokémon Series will do that someday.

Gordie

Honestly, He’s my least favorite in the Galar. I didn’t really enjoy battling him, and the fact that he pretty much has the same phrases as Melony didn’t help that fact. Like Melony, he wasn’t hard to beat, and the only thing that was tough was the challenge before facing him. I also wasn’t too fond of reading his League cards.  Not really much to say.

Piers

Not just one of my favorite Gym Leaders, but one of my favorite characters in the games. I love the Punk-Rock aesthetic he has, I love the theme music he has when battling, love that its different from the others. And I love his role in the game as the more or less leader of Team Yell, I really sympathize with him when he’s depressed about the state of his hometown and I love his relationship with Marnie, he’s a great older brother. I also love that we finally have a Dark-Type Gym Leader! Battling him is fun, and I think its pretty cool that even in the rematches, he doesn’t Dynamax his Pokémon, which is pretty refreshing and encourages me not to rely on Dynamaxing. Overall, I love him and was mad that he had such a small role in Twilight Wings.

Raihan

I feel like this one had a bit of wasted potential. Don’t get me wrong, he’s great to fight, always a challenge, and I love how he has Pokémon that aren’t Dragon-Type on his team and how he uses the weather mechanics in the game. But it talks about how he is Leon’s rival and I feel like we didn’t get enough of that, I wanted more of their rivalry shown. But I will agree that he is definitely the strongest gym leader in the Galar Region, always fun to battle with him in rematches and the Galarian Star Tournament. I always have to plan out Pokémon before battling him, because his battle style is refreshingly unpredictable at times. I also enjoy how he has his rotom phone around him in battles.
