imagine a soulmates a/b/o world. when you're born you get your finger pricked and it goes a database and magically finds your true match then the database spits out a name and address, as long as your true match is in the system. secondly, paganism didn't get stamped out so badly. that's not really a huge detail more a flavor one. okay, that's the context. this is long. keep reading.

now imagine it's 1717. the true match finding system for children is really only used by rich people bc it be expensive. king and queen of a tiny province in southeastern wallachia near the black sea George and winifred barnes had all their kids tested at birth but their firstborn ickle james buchanan barnes's blood sample doesn't get matched until after his 4th birthday. the magic system pops out the name Stiofán Mag Raighne Ruairí II ("that's a mouthful" George says) the newborn grandson of ireland's brand new independent king. see, Ireland just won a like 50yo vicious war with the English over their independence. Stiofán Mag Raighne Ruairí I is now the king of Ireland, having begun fighting for Irish independence at age ten. more on that in a bit.

so george and winifred go to ireland with their kids and entourage, arrive around five months after stiofán is born, and they're like "hello sarah ruairí and husband joseph who married in and comparatively is as about as important as the wallpaper, this is is our 4yo stop picking your nose james who's destined to be your infant son's soulmate james I said stop picking your nose don't wipe your boogers on your clothes no don't eat them either use a hanky" they introduce james to stiofán. stiofán is 5 months old and has not fully formed a personal concept of human existence yet, so has no opinion of the pink blob in front of him. james is 4 years and 9 months and thinks stiofán looks like a potato. winifred then tells him that stiofán is going to be his very best friend when they grow up and that they'll always be together and they'll always love each other, and they'll never be alone bc the other one will be there in their hearts. james understands best friend and is happy to see his new potato buddy. they prop ickle james up on a sofa and carefully let him hold 5 month old stiofán who looks very unhappy about everything happening and they take a picture.

"aren't they just darling!" sarah says "the most precious" winifred agrees. stiofán sneezes in james's face. james begins to wail. which makes stiofán start screaming. it's a great start.

winifred from then on takes james to Ireland every summer, to spend the month of july there (it's the 18th century, it'll take 3 months to get from the black sea to the coastline of France where they then have to take a boat which takes another month, so yeah just one month in Ireland, and they spend pretty much the end of march to the end of june traveling, then the beginning of august to the end of November getting back). once stiofán learns how to talk, he renames james bc he has a lisp the letter J is additionally too difficult to pronounce. he is now bucky. newly minted bucky refuses to answer to james anymore. it is a problem bc he doesn't ever correct people he just ignores them until either they magically guess he now goes by bucky or someone else tells them. once stiofán learns how to stand up, he's immediately able to run, and this is also a serious problem. the two of them combined are a menace. sarah and winifred try to get them to behave like noble children and they go "MLEH!" while spitting raspberries then produce pop rockets out of their grubby candy-filled pockets scare the shit out of their mothers and all the nursemaids then vanish in the ensuing chaos. things are great. until stiofán's seventh birthday.

remember the english? yeah.

july 4th, 1724. stiofán gets a music box from bucky that year (okay his parents got it and then put bucky's name on the gift label and told him to hand it to stiofán) and it's custom-made. it's round and squat, a gold case with little clawed feet, and the sides and top are inlaid with bright blue opal with lots of fire inclusions. it only opens with a key, of which bucky's parents had two made they're also gold little skeleton keys on a chain for safe keeping with small blue fire opals in the handles, round domed ones, and when the key is inserted and turned counter-clockwise (you have to turn it a bunch like a normal music box crank to get it to stay open and keep playing) the lid rises and out comes a little rose quartz figurine of stiofán and bucky, as they look at ages 7 and 11, standing together like they're dancing but they're wearing adult clothes bc they're actually playing; bucky's figurine is wearing an adult man's tailcoat with a full skirt that's almost touching the ground and a grown man's buckled shoes, while stiofán's figurine is holding up a lopsided adult omega's wig and wearing a ball gown with the waist around his knees. the ball gown's skirt then wraps around their legs, but you can still see bucky's rose quartz feet in their too big shoes. the figurines spin slowly with the music, which is the melody from the song that sarah and winifred had already had commissioned to play during bucky and stiofán's first dance at their wedding, sometime after stiofán presents probably around age 16 his doctor says. stiofán has never heard the melody before. he loves the music box more than any of his other presents.

as he's watching himself and bucky carved in rose quartz spin, the party is crashed by the English!!! dun dun dun!!! the guests flee and winifred escapes with bucky (also his three sisters they were there too bc they whine if they get left behind when bucky goes to Ireland) and bucky escapes with the music box as well as one of the keys, but the entire ruairí family, all of Ireland's brand new royals, are captured and killed.

bucky is traumatized. he is now moody, sullen, prone to isolation, hot-tempered, and most especially hates the english. it is considered bad form for a person whose true match died to marry someone else but winifred and George reluctantly start looking for a new bride bc their heir needs to be able to have heirs. bucky grows into his bitterness and anguish instead of out of it, then when right after turning 24, he shocks the whole of wallachia by abdicating the throne out of nowhere, then he seemingly vanishes off the face of the earth.

he moves halfway across the globe to new york city, specifically Brooklyn, where he sheds his blueblood life for a blue-collar one. he fortunately educated himself in steam mechanics prior to leaving europe, so he becomes a boiler man at a factory. after a few months, he's out of money and his salary isn't enough, so he starts moonlighting as a bartender at a "gentleman's club" called the big apples.

which is where he meets steven grant rogers. 20 years old, a male omega, blonde, freckled, blue eyes, slight Irish accent, has lived in Brooklyn for 14 years. is 6'2" and built like a brick shithouse, does not look like an Omega. very hot. yes, exactly, it's stiofán alive by some miracle and in Brooklyn, new york.

one problem. bucky doesn't go by bucky anymore. people call him james again. second problem, steve was fucking 7 when he last saw bucky so he doesn't remember that bucky is a nickname and not his actual first name given to him by his mama on his day of birth. and third problem neither he nor steve look anything like they did when they were 11 and 7yo respectively. well, when you put a picture of 11yo bucky next to 24yo bucky it's obvious they're the same person but 7yo steve looked completely different he had chicken limbs and was too long while at the same time being very short for his age. and as an Omega in the early 18th century he ought to have ended up between 5'6" and 5'8" (no serum. he won the genetic lottery.) there is no recognizing Steven Grant Rogers, XL fairy punk who spends half the time in remarkably convincing drag, as Stiofán Mag Raighne Ruairí II.

steve is a regular dancer at the club, but he turns french tricks, too. he and bucky become quick friends after steve asks him to fill in as bouncer by the back rooms one night, then after the club closes, they stay back and get drunk together, then they kiss and steve goes back with bucky to his apartment, but they're so drunk they fall asleep the second they're in bed. they wake up the next day both of them still fully clothed and steve's makeup has rubbed off on one of bucky's pillows. bucky is like "hey no offense that can't happen again" "eh your loss." steve later offers bucky a discount bc he's got a crush on him and bucky says "I still haven't gotten over my childhood sweetheart so no thanks" and steve's like "baby that's depressing just fuck me" "sorry no" "ugh"

their friendship continues. they do not kiss again. does bucky mention what happened to his childhood sweetheart? no. does bucky still have the music box from steve's seventh birthday?

yes.

alas he never wanted to hear the song again so he sold the key when he got to Brooklyn. he keeps it in his nightstand and looks at it every night before he goes to sleep and the first thing he does when he wakes up is pick it up and hold it for several minutes of silence. unless steve is there. bc somehow steve keeps ending up sleeping at his apartment, in his bed, eventually just leaving much of his clothes and even his makeup and toiletries there. they do not fuck. they do not kiss again. steve tries very hard, tho. bucky is politely oblivious.

july 4th 1732 comes around and bucky takes the night off to be depressed. only steve crashes his own deathday party, guest count one. he's like "wtf are you doing why are you drunk in the middle of the day c'mon it's my birthday you're going with me to the theater" and bucky's like "absolutely not it's my childhood sweetheart's day of entrance and his day of exit I will do nothing but sit here and consume that entire case of whiskey staring at this music box" and steve's like "dollface that's depressing get -- wait a second" and he points at the music box "where did you get that"

bucky's like ??? "i've always had it you've seen it before" "no no, I've seen it tucked into the nightstand drawer before and it was not that specific music box it was just a random blue thing in the shadows now where the bloody fuck did you get it" "none of your business!" "does it still work???" "does it -- what do you mean?" "it's a music box does it still play?" "I don't know it doesn't open without the key and I don't have that anymore I sold it last year how the hell do you know it's a music box???" and then he goes to put it away bc he's possessive of the very ghost of Stiofán Mag Raighne Ruairí II but steve suddenly gets all angry he says "give it to me!" and bucky is very offended "no!!!" "james you give me that music box right now! you don't know what that is!" "I know what it is!" "it's mine!" steve declares.

bucky's like "..." steve says "that's mine i lost it when I fled Ireland in 1724 it was a present from my alpha's parents they made it for me special and you have no right to even have it let alone keep it from me, so give it to me now, right now!" "no..." bucky says "the omega this was given to is dead, the English killed him and his entire family!" "my mother and I got out" steve says "but I dropped my music box and my alpha picked it up and that was the last time I ever saw him or it" "impossible!" and then steve pulls out a gold skeleton key on a pewter chain, having sold the gold one it came with long ago, set with a blue fire opal in the decorative handle that matches the music box's opal inlay and the decoration on where the key inserts, and he's like "look see this is the key to it please give it to me where did you even find it???" "I picked it up" bucky says quietly. "where?" "when he dropped it" "then give it to me!" steve insists and he even tears up a little "I haven't heard it play in 14 years I don't remember what the song is" "does the key turn left or right?" bucky asks "left" steve says "were you sitting in your mother's lap or your father's lap when the english crashed the party?" "my mother's how would you know that" and bucky is like "dumbass... I gave this music box to Stiofán Mag Raighne Ruairí II for his seventh birthday and if that's you, that means I'm your alpha" steve's like "??? my alpha's name is bucky!" "dumbass! my first name is james my middle name is buchanan!!! bucky is the nickname you gave me when you were 2!!!" "no!" steve insists "no my alpha's first name was.... well it was long for bucky!" they spiderman point at each other for like a minute. then steve's like "okay but I literally can't remember our song play the music box" so bucky takes the key and cranks it counter-clockwise. he hasn't listened to the song in like 3 years, steve hasn't heard it in 14. steve tears up and bucky kinda just awkwardly puts the music box down then takes his hand and his waist and starts shuffling like he's trying to waltz in his shoebox studio apartment, where suddenly they're the ones too big for the dancing scene. steve instead bear hugs him and kisses him. both of them cry yes. when the music box stops playing bucky cranks it again and they sort of just sway in circles for hours listening to it play.

"do you have a blue dress?" bucky asks in the morning "a real nice one?" "yeah" "go home and change, then come back here and we'll go find a preacher." "okay." so they hunt down somebody to marry them, and even though they don't have a chupah and a ketubah like winifred and George once wanted for the wedding and even tho they can't have a big crowd of guests to block the way between bucky entering the church and steve at the altar to then also rob him blind for the people's bridewealth as he literally fights his way through them for the chance to marry steve like sarah and joseph had insisted on, it's the perfect wedding for them. they don't have a honeymoon, they spend their wedding night turning the key on their music box over and over so it never stops playing.

"you know you gotta stop turning tricks now right" "ask me again when you have a bigger salary" "I'll just write my parents they'll be so thrilled I'm still alive let alone you that they'll dump buckets of money on us" "your... wait... have you been dirt poor this entire time by choice?" "..." "???" "yes?"

their first marital fight is fought with pillows.

My brain is so full of Bees about Post-Shift 2.

It's a fan game that was delayed for 4 years -- by the time it released, fnaf fangames as a whole were not as popular as they had been, & most people in the scene had forgotten about Post-Shift 1, so not a lot of people heard about it/played it.

Worse still is the people who did talk about the game. Pretty unanimously, the consensus was this: this game is the craziest, most insane fnaf fangame. It's overly difficult with mechanics that have no rhyme or reason to them & tutorials that are wordy, unhelpful, & sometimes actively mislead the player, meaning you need to comb through a lot of text only to be misinformed. It's not as infamous as some other fangames, but it definitely was talked about very poorly.

In general, I think most of these criticisms were blown up out of proportion, but I can't really disagree with most people's problems -- it is difficult & wordy, & rather hard to understand. I think, however, that the game is still 1. Really fun, 2. Not a bad game at all, &, most importantly, 3. Is a free fucking game that was clearly a passion project. Most damn fangames never get off the fucking ground when made in groups because the creators will never make a red cent off the thing -- this game was made by one dude for 4 years & delivered to people for free. It didn't ask anything of you except to accept it as a difficult game & to not go in with wild expectations. The dev just wanted to make a game that was rough, but he also wanted to make a game that felt unique & was fun. & It is fun, too, is the damn thing.

Random things i think Cybertronians would find adorable about humans ~♡

1. Humans getting spooked by random loud noises because humans are naturally very jumpy about loud noises

Imagine:

you're sitting over at Swerve's bar, just chatting, having your drink on the counter Swerve let you sit on, because your makeshift little table and chair are work in progress. Suddenly some bot decides to honk their horn near you which makes you yelp and jump (like cats when they get scared of cucumber) which makes you almost spilling the drink as you were about to take a sip.

The whole bar stops and laughs at you. You just look at the bot who did it with the most unimpressed look ever (ㅍ_ㅍ)

2. Watching you stretch yourself because Cybertroniams aren't as flexible as humans

3. Sleeping

this may sound a bit creepy but from what i saw Cybertroniams sleep very eerily still and almost never move when they're in recharge because they're very vulnerable when doing so. So i think when they have their first sleepover with a human and they happen to fall asleep sooner and they start to either sleep walk or sleep talk (which fun fact, i do a lot ( -᷄ ᎑ -᷅ ) ) the bots would look in utter confusion like- "ya all don't stay still?? How???" I think Cybertronians would also find cute how groggy humans are when they wake up and them needing proper time to load into the world around them. Oh god and wait till they hear about the weird ass dreams humans can have or humans trying to explain déjà vu to a bot💀

(makes me think of Sunder being frustrated bc he wouldn't be able to get into a human's brain😝)

4. Physical Clumsiness

The occasional clumsiness and lack of precision in human movements. I think a lot of bots would find this very amusing to occasionaly watch since Cybertronias are typically more coordinated and precise in their actions. Like imagine bot walking with a human who let's say just woke up earlier to a meeting and are slowly walking around occasionaly hitting themeselves or their arm with a corner of a wall because their sleepy processor didn't calculate the trajectory good enough. I think they would find this rather adorable (๑´>᎑<)

5. Emotional Reactions

Yes i think humans are way more sensitive than Cybertronians are. Human's exaggerated emotional reactions to minor events, like getting overly excited about a sports game or being deeply upset by a small mishap, could be seen as amusingly disproportionate. Like imagine you drop your favourite mug on the floor and it breaks as much as your heart in that moment. You walk around the ship super sad, like a kicked puppy, and the bots can almost feel the sadness dripping off of you so they ask: "Hey uh- you okay?"

And then you proceed to explain that you broke your favourite mug and that you'll never find a mug similar to your favourite one. The bot stares like ಠ_ಠ. Oh so that's the reason? Okay so apparently humans don't pack bond with only random things that are alive but even with things that aren't.

6. The uncanny valley effect

I think bots would find rather fascinating how human brain responds to this phenomenon. Like- the human brain can feel that something is off and can't be fooled. Imagine holoforms in Cybertronians. Like yeah they can look very appealing but only up to a certain point which when that point is reached it tickles that one part of the human brain which tells us "na-a-ah something ain't right"

At one point they wanted to wtiness this in real life so some bots (Percy, Brainstorm) made a set up of holoforms and real looking hologram of humans and waited for you to figure out which unsettles you the most. They were surprised that you were 100% accurate in this and that you were able to tell which one are holoforms and which aren't.

7. Expressions of Wonder

the awe and wonder in the human eyes when we are encountering something new or beautiful, such as a breathtaking landscape or a technological marvel. I think Cybertronians would find this pretty adorable, very innocent and reflective of our curious nature.

8. Human Fragility

I think the most popular one. The general physical fragility of humans, along with our tendency to bandage minor injuries or get flustered over small pains, might be viewed as cutely vulnerable for many Cybertronians.

doing some hcs! i divided it into three parts bc i think he acts differently with different age groups of littles

warnings: talks of crying/tantrums, one mention of death, one mention of fighting, use of "big brother"

(0-2) babyspace

literally the definition of "fake it till you make it", since scout's usually the youngest of whatever group he's in (whether that be the mercs or his family), he's never had to take care of a baby before

holds you pretty awkwardly but surprisingly safe because he's scared of dropping you

will try to talk to you and expect answers until he remembers you're a baby

"so, uh, what kinda games you wanna play?" "ah?" "oh, yeah, nevermind."

gives you random objects to teeth/drool on like clean socks and spoons from the kitchen

usually doesn't like to ask for help, but if you wear diaps, he will 100% go to spy or engie and hold you up like a wet little cat and ask "help how do i change this thing"

weirdly likes making bottles. thinks it's relaxing to fill it up and feed you

favorite thing is to make you laugh. he'll do the thingy wear he tears paper to make you squeal and giggle. hearing you laugh makes him laugh

literally the only time scout has any patience is when he's taking care of you

tries putting you down for a nap and ends up sleeping with you because he doesn't want to leave you

good at calming you down when you cry

"shh, kid, it's okay, big brother's right here"

(3-4) toddlers

he enjoys that you're able to talk with him because all he does is talk

will tell you jokes and you usually don't get the punchline because it's something tom jones or death related

eats your snacks with you. like straight up steals handfuls of cheerios and yogurt bites off your table, he thinks they're delicious

tries to sneak bonk! into your sippy cup and gets yelled at by the other mercs later when you won't take a nap

tries to pay attention to you but always gets distracted, loses you very easily. by the time scout turns around, you're halfway down the other side of the hallway

makes a very poor attempt to teach you baseball, but it usually just devolves into a clumsy game of catch instead

if you won't eat, he either does "here comes the airplane!" or pretends to eat your food to make you jealous

calls his mom when you won't behave, "hey ma, how did ya deal with me when i was a kid?"

thinks it's hilarious to tickle you, will bring out the tickle monster

has a hard time trying to deal with tantrums, usually tries the distraction method of presenting toys to you. if you're really sobbing, he'll wait it out because he doesn't want to upset you further

(5+) kiddos

he's weirdly a lot more chill the older you are in regression, he feels he needs to have rules and guidelines for the littles, but if you're more of a kid, then he is laidback

huge arts and crafts kinda guy, since he likes doodling himself, it's very easy for the two of you to spend an afternoon just scribbling and coloring

you will probably spend more time outside than inside, tbh. he'll bring out balls and chalk and bubbles, anything you want to keep you entertained

will come up with a secret handshake with you (that both of you will forget within the hour and make up a new one)

so many cartoons. he likes watching them anyways so it's a no-brainer for babysitting

if you play with dolls, scout will make them fight each other

loves loves loves games, from hide and seek to the floor is lava to even just counting, he will make everything into a competition

he'll let you win on purpose though because it makes him happy to see you happy

"i can't believe you beat me again, toots! you gotta give your big brother a chance next time, yeah?"

will let you give him a makeover! if you have makeup, he'll use it, but usually it's just acrylic paint or washable markers because no one else at the base owns makeup

lets you stay up way past your bedtime, especially when it's movie night

holds dance parties in the common area oh yeah !!! they typically end up in scout trying to dance battle

(tho u did find some type of flying monkey that wasnt in game, but its like,, a real world and jungle now so that makes sense there'd be more complexity + stuff)

you do eventually think you should try and possess a person at this point... but ur kinda nervous 👉👈

its ur first time doin this okay nobody explained the basics to you youve been winging for a week now!

will your mind be replaced with theirs? it hasn't been so far with the creatures/bots

and as far as you can tell, they kinda just-

forget what happened or "wake up" after you possess them

(the tiger you were for a day looked confused as hell when it realized that there was a new pile of fruit next to it when it "woke up", it was your way of saying thank you to the animals of the jungle, u left them little piles of food you collected running around as them)

so THEORHETICALLY-

you should be good to go and possess a random poor eremite

... you figure you want to possess something human-like eventually even if you get a puppet body like wanderer/raiden so...

so it's been 2 weeks since you've been forcefully yanked into teyvat, and by the second week, you were trying to possess eremites

which! worked out!

mostly..!

you kinda convinced the entirety of two eremite camps that a certain part one of sumeru's forests is hella haunted bc ppl keep "blacking out" and doing things they don't remember doing, yknow... like possesssion LMAO

they kinda ran off to escape you but, hey!

experiment #2: people possession, success!!

now you were kinda convinced of this when you realized no matter the angle the animals and machines of sumeru didnt react to you getting super close to them (you dont have to touch something to posses it, just look at it really, but you wanted to test limits, so you walked up to sumpter beasts and fungi and ruin machines)

but no one can see you.

you don't have a "character" most of the time, you can float and glide around the ground like scaramouche lol

you cant touch stuff bc of this, you cant smell stuff (u saw the eremites campfires & couldnt smell the smoke until you were them)

you cant eat stuff w/o a body, so.. it makes sense that the eremites and passing merchants, cant see you when you float around, trying to reorient yourself after 2 weeks of experimenting

:( ur only a lil sad about it... but mostly not bc lol u got possession powers so trade off u guess

then, after you get the courage and erase the paranoia that tighnari can just... somehow hear your ghostly bullshit-

Tighnari begins to get suspicious about 3 weeks into this routine.

he's been starting to collect and start a file on all the rangers or nearby villagers that've started randomly "blacking out/sleep walking" in the evenings usually

(u possess as close to nighttime as u can so it seems like sleepwalking)

So when Cyno comes back from a mission gone wrong,

having nearly been decapitated by a rogue flying ruin machine, only to black out and come to standing calmly 10 feet further than he remembered being 1 minute ago...

Tighnari's suspicions are confirmed, and he launches into researching this phenomenon.

his first thought is something like the aranara, but that doesn't account for the effect this thing is having on people

after all, what little forest spirit is strong enough to-

-control humans??

Tighnari begins to get the sense he's in over his head after he finds himself pushed into going into Sumeru City in order to collect more library books or ask around if the blackouts have spread to the city people

he answer is negative, on both accounts.

and he spends about one half of the day walking around, and the other reading up all he can on mythical creatures or ailments

Tighnari gives up for the day, and as he makes his way back to Ghandarvaville, he almost gets ambushed by some particularly nasty muggers

...and then he wakes up 20 feet away, his denro vision thrumming with power, full of worry and fondness for himself??, (just like Cyno said he felt happen to him..)

...Tighnari decides he needs reinforcements.

1. CANNOT SIT ON A CHAIR PROPERLY

Still reading TOA- I just found out that Leo’s full name is “Leonidas” (either that or it’s a nickname Calypso gave him, but the fandom seem to agree that it’s his real name) but he HATES it when Calypso calls him that, so my hc is ANNABETH is the ONLY one with “Leonidas” privileges. And that’s bc he’s so fucking terrified of her he doesn’t DARE appose her on it. I feel like she does use it respectfully though.

Hazel is also allowed to use it sparingly.

4. Oh yeah fuck canon Leo and Annabeth are besties and they bond over both being runaways and also engineering/architecture stuff. Leo’s DEFINITELY had a peek around Daedalus’ laptop- his design for an automaton that can house a human soul got him thinking about his mom. He always planned on maybe taking a closer look at those files but then the laptop got lost in Tartar Sauce. I know you said no angst. Whoops.

5. Leo and Hazel start a support group for demigods who have come back from the dead. Every Wednesday in New Rome. Biscuits and Orange Juice will be provided. They call themselves the “YOLTers” (You Only Live Twice- because YOLO is for the weak). Thalia is also a frequent attendee.

6. I hc him as hard of hearing after the explosion in Blood of Olympus. Specifically deaf in his right ear and chronic tinnitus in his left. He uses hearing aids sometimes and also uses ASL and Morse Code to communicate. I choose to view that as wholesome bc we need more disability representation.

7. He is a “Leonidas” ONLY at Starbucks. He then follows it up with a bunch of equally hard-to-pronounce middle names (which he completely made up) said in a rapid-fire Spanish accent and watches the Barista panic as her white ass tries to spell it all. It’s even funnier when she tries to say it back to him when giving him his order. He takes the cup (leaves a generous tip) and says “but usually I just go by Leo” and walks away.

That is pretty much my entire understanding of American culture right there-

In the one I’m currently reading- The Dark Prophecy- Calypso and Apollo go on a train without Leo and I’m just imagining them getting back and him being “But what kind of train was it? Standard gauge or narrow gauge? Man, I love narrow gauge trains. Did you know that there’s this place in Wales called the Ffestiniog railway, where they have this special type of locomotive where the engine- the sicky-outy bit- is like, either side of the locomotive, so that there’s no need for a turntable-“

Okay I might also love narrow gauge trains (I’ve been on the Ffestiniog railway, it is amazing) (Also that is not a typo, in Welsh I believe the double f makes a soft sound (like in “off”) and a single f makes a hard sound, more like a v (like in “of”) you learn a new thing every day!)

He has to listen to music as a way of not being alone with his thoughts. I discovered Taylor at a young age, and she has remained one of the few consistencies in my life since then. She got me through some tough times (Not as bad as Leo, but she helped me survive 2020). I feel like Leo would be the same- not always knowing where he’ll be sleeping that night or if food will be on the table, he’d want comfort, stability. Taylor would be there.

14. He wakes Frank up at 3am with “Hey I can’t read that what does that say?” “…Leo you wrote this. You’re telling me you can’t read your own writing?” Little does Leo know that Percy came in with exactly the same request half an hour before. Frank is finding being the only non-dyslexic on the ship incredibly frustrating.

I saw a lot of people hc that Leo makes Percabeth’s wedding rings but that is factually incorrect. TYSON makes the ring. LEO makes Annabeth’s dress. I just started this fic where Annabeth, Piper, Leo, Reyna, and Rachel all go wedding dress shopping for Leo to get ideas, but he makes absolutely the most BEAUTIFUL gown for her- much better than any store. It puts all other wedding dresses to shame.

22. He can also knit, crochet (This hc was supplied by my mum who I’ve forced to read Heroes of Olympus), weave, and do macramé. He’s gone down rabbit holes about old-fashioned lacemaking. Him and Annabeth have sewing/crafting competitions at camp and on the Argo.

A Valgrace hc but it relates- while I was thinking up ways for Leo/Jason to propose (just a regular day in my brain), I had an idea for Leo to take Jason to one of those comedy shows that does crowd-work, and sits in the front row to get their attention. When the comedian asks who they are, Leo introduces Jason as his fiancé. When Jason goes, “Wait, no I’m not!” Leo yells “WELL WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE?” And gets down on one knee.

Also, sorry it’s taken me so long to respond. I’ve had this saved to my drafts and I’ve been slowly adding to it every time I get a new headcanon.

Unfortunately for him, unclaimed kids tend to raise the most suspicion... but he might have found a loophole in the form of Aphrodite. okay yea this one just left me reeling for days. weeks even. this is a total rewrite of what pjo could have been and though i may have questioned it going into it, i should have never doubted any bit of this- this is just a masterpiece of writing, like, seriously. the way that all of the character arcs were written, the deaths meaningful, the plot insanely well-thought out?? i am in awe. i read this and the sequel within a 6 hour car drive bc i was just so insanely hooked on every detail of this universe- seriously, the worldbuilding was insane, the oc's so perfectly intertwined, and the lore perfectly incorporated. SERIOUSLY if you want a pjo fic to completely alter your brain chemistry, this is the one.

IM BEING SO FR RIGHT NOW. the way that this fic literally altered my brain chemistry and left me in shambles. the amount of detail that went into the plot and the lore. i could read another 400k words of this universe and it still wouldn't be enough. the author is literally so crazily talented they made me ship harry potter x gideon prewett (no weird age gap going on trust me, there's a lot of time travel stuff going on- they are around the same age biologically and mentally). like seriously if i had to recommend one fic from this year it would be this. which is insane to say. but i cannot understate how incredible this work of fanfiction is like genuinely, i hope that this author is out there writing incredible original works because they integrated oc's into the plot so seamlessly, made these incredible relationships and orchestrated the plot so perfectly that i was just completely immersed. i could go on for way longer but like. all i could think when finishing this was woah. holy fucking shit. idk if i'll ever read a fic as insane as that again.

If Pilties wanted to assuage their guilt or if Zaunites wanted to send a message, she honestly couldn’t care less. If she had her way, she’d have nothing to do with it. At that point in life, Vi should already be aware she hardly, if ever, had things go her way. this is actually 100% canon to me, seriously just thinking about vi and the alternate universe and her place in the world in the main universe now just makes me want to cry, but this fic just explored it so well and has one of the best vi characterizations ever.

THIS FIC IS INSANE. first of all i just wanna say holy shit author for writing 104k words in less than a month and it still being ongoing. mad respect. made even more insane by how high quality every bit of this fic is, i LOVE a good young caitvi au and this just flew to the top of my ranking of them since i started reading- excitedly awaiting every update on this because i just love how in-depth the worldbuilding and characters are. oh, and cassandra?? MOST ICONIC CHARACTER EVER. LOVE HER. this one just dove so deeply into the kiramman family and that makes me SO happy, and i can't wait to see where it ends up going <3

Even worlds apart, they'll still always find each other. got to read this one as it updated and this was just a beautiful exploration of what could've happened if powder tried to recreate the anomaly (a question that im pretty sure everyone asked after the end of ep 7) - it was a wonderful fix-it while also staying true to all of the characters and exploring their relationships post-canon <3

and Run at the Cup. by TheHomelyBadger which i can firmly say is one of my top 3 best reads of the year (the others being The Second String and Son of Sea Foam), but wasn't included in this list because i first bookmarked it on may 27, 2022 back when it was originally updating. bc i sort of fell out of the fandom i didn't end up keeping up with the updates and so i got to re-read it in its entirety in december and was just completely blown away by how incredible it was, i could easily read 300k more words about this universe, it's an absolute masterpiece - i mean, it made me care about sports, which let me tell you is the most impossible job there is.

"Ummm they toned down the abuse from Gabe in Percy Jackson because it's a kids show, stop being mad about it"

Ignoring the fact that it's also a children's book, let's take a look at some children's media in the last couple decades that depict parental abuse towards children that isn't physical, but still makes the abuse feel real:

1. Harry Potter. I'm loathe to even put it on here bc of how much I hate JKR, but HP DOES depict child abuse in probably one of the best ways of any modern media. As far as I can remember (correct me if I'm wrong), the Dursley's never lay a hand on Harry. But it is never even questioned if they're awful people towards Harry - they literally make him sleep in a closet.

2. Matilda. Like do I even need to explain this one? Abuse from not only her whole family (again, NONE of it physical from what I recall), but also from other authority figures. And she's not the only character who deals with parental abuse - Miss Honey is a grown adult shown to be dealing with the negative effects of an abusive parental figure.

3. Phineas and Ferb. Laugh all you want, but Doofenshmirtz's parents were genuinely awful to him. His stories are just tamed down in a way that's palpable to a much younger audience while still also being clear abuse - a young child can chuckle at his stories but STILL understand why maybe some of his stories would turn him evil.

4. Avatar the Last Airbender. Zuko's father physically disables his own son. Not to mention the constant emotional neglect and manipulation on top of it, the writers never held back on how bad his father was. Even if he hadn't scarred Zuko, he would still be a clear depiction of an abusive parent.

5. The Willoughbys. The parents are so awful that the kids literally plot to murder them. The parents abandoned them to freeze to death on top of a mountain. Enough said.

6. Percy fucking Jackson.

Percy Jackson IS a book made for kids that depicts child abuse from a parent - and not only does it depict child abuse, it depicts spousal abuse.

I know Percy doesn't know that Gabe is physically hurting Sally in the beginning of the book. But we as the audience know that Gabe DOES hurt Percy. There is not a single sign in the new show that Percy has anything more than a snarky, annoyed view of Gabe.

Gabe is supposed to be smelly and disgusting, a drunk (which, even if they can't depict that in a Disney show, you can still play around with his grossness), a slob, and a gambler. He's barely even greasy in the show. Literally they could have just had him belch a few times or eat messily and it would have given off a better impression of his character. Instead, he just quips back and forth with Percy and then later is just...whining. He's whiney. He does not ring as a man who abuses his family, emotionally OR physically, he rings as a pathetic step-dad figure who can't support himself (which is ALSO not canon, because in the book he runs an auto store! His abuse towards Sally is not for lack of money, it's just because he's a dick!!!) The fact that I think that Doof's parents in Phineas and Ferb are more overtly abusive than him on screen is actually absurd.

And Sally fell flat. Her character in the book doesn't yell literally ever - not once in the whole series can I recall her legitimately yelling at someone. Her persona is kind and gentle in the books and as for wits, she's clever, and sneaky, and cunning. She fights back with Gabe in ways that we as the audience can see, but Gabe misses because he's so dense.

Take the bean dip scene.

In the show, she basically is like "Yeah yeah I'll make the bean dip, shut up" and Gabe just whines about the sour cream while they yell at each other.

In the book? That's her bargaining chip to take the car for the weekend. That's her ticket out of the house. Bribery. Not just placating a whining husband - she bribes him in the books.

And her yelling back? Just feels so unnatural to Sally Jackson as a whole. I saw someone say she feels like Disney girl-bossed her, and they're right. She doesn't feel like Sally Jackson. She feels like just another cut and paste Disney woman who's snappy and doesn't take shit.

And to be clear - the OG Sally Jackson also didn't take shit. She was just so much more clever about it, in a way that made sure Percy never saw her actively yell. She doesn't have to be snarky and rude to get her way. Percy knows she's fighting back without physically fighting, and that's what makes her so strong. Sometimes you have to fight more with your wits and cleverness than you do with screaming and fists

(Gee...wonder what other character Percy ends up really admiring that also holds that philosophy in life?)

Anyway...all that said, stop blaming the fact that it's a children's show on Gabe's watered down personality. Children's shows/movies and family shows/movies have been depicting serious parental abuse and neglect for decades, in both realistic and more humorous ways that don't take away from the neglect. Kids can handle it, because there are kids going through it.

To say that "It's a kids show, kids shouldn't have to see that," is a disservice to the kids who need to see that, so they know that they can get away too, and they don't have to get physical to do it.

Also, this version of Gabe? Doesn't deserve to die. He's just annoying, not an asshole that scares Percy more than literal monsters do.

Ok FIRST of all whomst the fuck is this creepy guy we see in the background after Mark goes to Wellness in the beginning of the episode???

2. The italian guy is played by an actual italian actor, and him saying "Why's he standing weird?" when Mark comes in the office first time was so unexpected lmfao

3. I'm 100% conviced everything Milchick told Mark is bullshit. "It's been 5 months"? then why does it look like he just moved into Cobel's office? Who's been managing the severed floor in the meantime?

The photo is in black and white and the cars are old models, this is in line with Lumon's habit of only exposing innies to dated technology. Now lets zoom in a bit shall we

"Mark S, Helly R, Irving B, and Dylan G, the very famous “Innies” (…) All four of them gave speeches, praising the “courageous” acts of their Innies and thanking Lumon for its accomodations." -> If the outies gave the speech, then why are they dressed as their innies? Plus look at Mark smiling. Dude would not be smiling. He didn't smile before, and he's not going to have anything to smile about now, we saw him in the trailer and he was a mess.

They're trying to pin everything on Cobel, make it seem like SHE was the sadist and deviant (and she was, but god forbid women have hobbies. also the "throuple" things was hilarious and holds so many implications?? dating someone's innie and outie at the same time is a throuple??? lmfao) that did all that while Lumon only wants the best for its employees. Milchick is lying making it seem like the MDR gang changed things significantly with their going on the outside. But IMO it hasn't been 5 months, and we dont know exactly how the outside is taking the news but it definitely is not as black & white as "these innies are heroes and everybody loves them". In the meantime Milchick is trying to appease them by offering more perks, snacks, etc. and by pretending he's the good guy that doesn't want to be their jailer.

7. This part of why the others weren't present, and what comes after is really strange and can't form an opinion on it

Let's think about it. Would Dylan refuse? his innie didn't go to the outside to make trouble. He doesn't seem to suspect anything about Lumon either, at most he saw what Helly said on tv but like, for him that day was just a regular day except maybe that he came back from work later. Would he be so adamant about quitting his job after just that? Seems kinda strange.

Irving obviously has something going on with Lumon. The paintings of the elevator, plus the fact he has a list of Lumon's severed employees in his home for some reason? He's definitely digging into Lumon. Obsessed as he is, I doubt he would quit.

Helly actually makes sense that she would not come back bc for starters she doesn't want to be there, and after how much damage she's done I doubt Helena would let her return, but we have that whole theory about Helly being Helena in this ep so....yeah

Anyway it's all very strange. Mark comes back alone and Milchick tells him it's because the others quit (or we fired them and arent telling you), sorry! Then Mark has a tantrum because he wants his friends back and suddenly they ARE back? Like the next day? Or IS IT the next day?

8. Which brings me to the next point, the time Mark goes in the elevator after his transgression and apparent firing is really, really weird. Instead of the normal transition of him changing his expression as he becomes his outie, and then changing back as he goes down the elevator again, we get a BLACK elevator and a BLACK screen

You know what other elevator is black??

I think he stayed in the testing floor at least until the end of the day, possibly more, and they fucked with his perception to make him think he went back up. Also, in that scene we don't see the arrow on the elevator

As far as we know, the elevator for the regular entrance could also go to the testing floor, not just the black elevator. And maybe the arrow on it changes depending on if it goes up or down.

As for the others from team MDR, they might've been in the testing floors too during the work day, possibly without their outies knowing, who knows. I don't think they'd be there permanently like Gemma, not after their publicity at the Lumon event in which there were their photos, and Helly's speech at said event. But this is just a theory, I don't think there is enough material to fully support it, except for Mark.

9. The whole video segment. What the fuck. Taking their rebellion and making it part of the narrative for the oppression?? Including their private moments and other things taken completely out of context with recordings of their own voices?? Truly dystopian evil shit. Loved the stop motion animation though, gotta hand it to Lumon. Also is that Keanu Reeves's voicing the building???

10. Is Helly really Helly or is she actually Helena? Hard to say at this stage but I'm leaning more on her being Helena. She's just acting weird. The lying first of all; on one hand, it's been a hot minute since everything happened so lying might be just a first instinctual reaction, like denial. But on the other hand, at the event she still spoke out against her outie and denounced the whole company in front of everybody. Why would she be ashamed of her hatred for her outie and Lumon now?

Irving clocked in on her immediately lol. I think he figured it out so he doesn't want to tell the others what he did on the outside while she's there. Also the way "Helly" looks at Irving and says "...Yeah" to the question before this is very sus to me, can't explain it with just screenshots though.

Plus it's just the way she acts in general. Very subdued, less sassy, trying too hard to be sympathetic with Mark and the others, feels forced. There's that scene in the trailer of Helena "studying" the security camera footage of her innie, possibly to learn how to act like her. She's looking at Helly kissing Mark, and then in ep1, she offers her support to Mark to find Gemma etc... I'm not saying Helly wouldn't help Mark, but the way she tells him gives me strange vibes, and it's also strange that she decides to stay at all just for him.

11. Irving man. Just. Holy shit 😭

Also Dylan and Irving friendship!!!!!!!!!!! Screaming crying throwing up etc. Not gonna expand on this or this post would go on forever but man the actors really gave an outstanding performance. What a scene

12. Finally the big reveal of what kind of data the Macrodata Refinement boys are refining

They're deleting memories? Locking them up, or sorting them between stuff they're supposed to remember as innies vs what they should forget??? Is that why the numbers are scary??? Even if that's why, how do they know the numbers are scary? Also, there is a time limit on files, right. What happens to the person associated with the file, when they don't refine it to 100% within the limit? Is this for like, every new severed employee, or just the ones on the testing floor? So many questions holy shit

This was a silly little episode and I have indeed enjoyed it. Not as emotional as the last one but I had fun nevertheless. Though, it didn't feel like a "Mario's Trip" episode, compared to the other ones. Maybe that's just me idk.

The animation and references, peak. As for the plot itself, it felt very on-brand for SMG4. Strangely, the chaotic energy in this one was toned down which is new. Like I said, it was still fun, had plenty of laughs. There isn't much to say about this but yeah, good to have a silly goofy time overall!!!

you can see they both have one side of their face who has been affected, my grandpa had a stroke and only has vision in one eye, the one he can open the most, he's paralyzed in one side of the body and can't walk or do his necesites without help, that's why I'm there, I clean after him, help him take some steps, wash his hands and face, my uncle comes home sometimes to bathe him. and my grandma has eyesight problems as well, she has one side of her face that has been affected for bad meds that she took when she couldn't afford new ones, I help her walk and cook, she has to feed 3 young girls who live with them because their father left them (I won't post their faces since they are underage), so I wash their clothes and try to keep them in good shape but we can't afford some stuff, the government gifts us 8 liters of milk every month and since they are both older than 65 the government also gives them money than can barely cover electricity and running water, sometimes they get free meds, sometimes they don't, ofc we can't afford physiotherapy for any of them but they need it very badly.

yes it's true I used the donation money to that wheelchair you see folded there, it was 2,600 mxn bc we can't afford a new one, on the table you can see lotions that they need, they were also bought with the donation money. and that's where my grandma of 81 years sleeps, my grandpa sleeps in the bed because he needs more space to move and that chair you see is where I sleep there when I take care of them, you can even see my blankets, I'm always waiting for something to happen, I wake up every hour to see if they need to go to the bathroom or take water.

that´s the bathroom, as you can see we only have 3 toilet paper, some shampoo and toothpaste, that's all they have until next month. I don't want to post their kitchen cause they have so many pots but so little food, all they have is rice, beans, some cereal and tortillas.

here is my bank account, I have 9 mxn to my name and I have the movements when I retired the 2,600 mxn to buy the wheelchair, they didn't gave us a receipt because we bought it from the son of an old woman who passed away in the neighborhood. it also shows the last movement, 5 dollars I received from a donation on paypal, I have received another 40 dollars but they won't show on my account at least for another 4-5 days.

and yes I used the donation money for college, here are the receipts, I covered some information for my own safety, you can see how the amounts are the same because that was paid, I got the payment receipt on august 14th, that covers august and september. the rest of the donation money was used to buy food and bus tickets in those two months, I really appreciate everyone who donated cause you all kept me alive for more than 2 months.

ahaha so many questions! I'll answer them as concisely as I can :>

1.) Song of Achilles is on my shelf, I've been meaning to read it all but I haven't been able to make time for it, I might try and do so before the new year! I've definitely heard great things :>

2.) Hephaestus! He gives me such older brother vibes, he just seems like a really chill and snuggly guy LOL Only complaint about his character design is the fact that he's constantly using running blades (sure they look cool but they're not practical for casual wear, you're supposed to use them for, y'know... running lmao) but that's really it, I think his arc with Aphrodite in S3 was poorly written tbh especially with how rushed it was, but overall not the worst treatment out of the cast.

3.) Definitely don't want it to take until 2030 LMAO It's gonna depend on a few variables, including update schedule (I'd really like to get back to posting once a week again like I used to but I don't think it's gonna be possible for a little while u.u""") and how long the final scripts come out to be. Ideally though I'd like it to be wrapped up within another year or two. This definitely isn't one of those "work on it indefinitely" type projects, I have an end goal in mind and I don't want it to take over half a decade like my last comic project did LOL

4.) Never expected to wind up making Rekindled or in tattooing. I'm kind of a "fall into it" type person, I do what feels right in the moment even if it's not what I initially planned for (within reason, of course! I've learned to sit on new ideas and plans for a bit before pursuing them to ensure I'm actually into them before diving in lol it helps me avoid the impulsive ADHD-fueled decisions 😆). I sort of had a plan for myself back in primary and high school - I wanted to become a video game concept artist, but over time as I got into making comics and after I graduated college, it just never really happened. It's never too late, of course, but right now I'm having a lot of fun tattooing and making comics in my free time ! I think I'd still be making comics even if I ended up in game dev, it satisfies my storytelling side haha

5.) If you mean specifically LO, yeah, Minthe here too. Which is wild because I remember when I was still a huge fan of the comic and was on the "fuck Minthe!" train. Now that I've explored the comic with a more critical eye, I sympathize with her way more and I really hope she had gotten a more satisfying conclusion. Still, she got away from Hades and Persephone's nonsense so that's better than nothing LMAO but I definitely want to explore her side more in Rekindled as the story unfolds, I have some fun plans for her <3

Ok so. Crucial part of this Au: Uther knows Merlin in Balinor’s son but does NOT know abt the magic. Merlin does not know about being Balinor’s son. Uther kept him cause he thinks it would be a good idea to have a dragonlord on hand that's loyal to Camelot, given what he's keeping under the castle.

Also I'm very aroace and don't wanna write romance for a while, so no romantic Murther.

Instead, Uther raises Merlin and Arthur as brothers. He deeply encourages the loyalty to one another as keeping Merlin loyal is essetail and Merlin is a very valuable asset that bears protecting. He emphasises to Arthur that as the eldest, Merlin is his responsibility and he should take care of him. Merlin is his younger brother.

Arthur takes to this role like a wildfire. Protective as SHIT over his new baby brother (Merlin is two years younger), esp. Since he was… not doing too hot when he first got to the castle. He was greiving and seemed *terrified* and didn’t speak at all for months. He was sickly too, for reasons no-one could pinpoint. Arthur had made it his mission to cheer Merlin up, as no one should be that sad. He and Merlin communicate at first via drawings.

He only seemed to improve after he started talking quietly to an imaginary freind he named “Kiggah.” It seemed to help cause merlin slowly started talking to Arthur and then in general and his health imrpved too.

Yeah… Merlin’s imaginary freind is Killgarrah lol.

Killgarrrah, or Kiggah as a now 5 year old Merlin could pernounce, is getting a major overhaul in this AU. His is going to be far far less of a bastard. Cause dragons are too cool for him to be the absolute worst.

In this AU Kiggah actually cares more THAT HIS ENTIRE RACE WAS ERADICATED than that he was trapped under the castle. Cause, fr, that is not the part id focus on. Also I gave him a family before, sorry man. Kiggah was also really really fond of dragonlings and hatchlings and was very excited to see the hatching of his first great-grandhatchling before the purge. Ow.

Anyway, Merlin is TERRIFIED of being in Camelot. He’s terrified he’s going to say something wrong and reveal his secret and die. He blames himslef for his mother’s death (cause he’s like 4 1/2 and thats normal for kids that age) and more specifically, his magic. So he supresses the shit out of it, which is why he’s so sickly.

Kiggah senses Merlin basically killing himslef and tries coaching Merlin into using his magic again. Adopts Merlin as his own hatchling. Kiggah doesn’t know Merlin’s dad is Balinor, but he DOES know he’s emrys, magic itself. As a result, Kiggah views Merlin as a fellow magical creature and raises him accordingly. He… doesn’t really get how human hatchlings are supposed to work.

Merlin starts acting weirdly dragonlike. His growling, he’s biting people, hee’s climbing everything, hoarding things and has a major fixation with fire. He is gettign “difficult to handle” as UTHER, assumes this is just how dragonlordlings are, (good gracious), but needs a way to coverup the fact he’s raising one.

Fooleswurth, nuerdodivergent in ye-old times, sees Merlin and his like “haha verily. Reminds me of when I was that age, I was just the same. He must have “The Jester’s Spark, haha.”’ Uther goes “yes and” and now fooleswurth has an apprentice and Uther has a way to explain why his ward is so weird.

Anyway, Kiggah is NOT excited about Merlin’s new older sister, but Merlin loves her. He is very excited for whenever Morgana’s magic manifests. She grows on Kiggah. (Esp. With all teh trouble she gives Uther). Morgana’s going to be fine.

She and Merlin get on like a house on fire. Gossipy bitches. Morgana sics Melrin and his “jester’s privolegde” on bothersome nobles to insult them into the ground.

Gwen becomes Morgana’s maidservent, and she Morgana and Merlin are great friends.
