Had a Battletech: Alpha Strike Demo Day at the flgs today, and after a quick instructional game it was time to debut the first of the K鈥橴rbie Legion! The rode forth to Glorious Victory over the big bully Atlas and it鈥檚 Locust minion! Eventually plan to have a dozen of these stupid things for a full list of stupid.

First platoon of Jump Infantry for my Mercenary force in Battletech
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was my first time painting infantry in 6mm, and I'm very glad I opted to let the wash do most of the work and avoid layering, as I would lose my mind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The infantry models are lovingly resculpted rogue trader era imperial guardsmen, I found them on Cults under the name Retro Guard

I thought those perfectly fit the vibe I wanted, so I slapped on a generic steampunky jetpack, scaled them down, and voila

I know the leaves are pretty big compared to the scale, but I'm not planning on changing it, I like it

I finished Archer, which I posted yesterday. This is my first Battletech miniature and generally the first miniature of this scale (not counting a pair of titans from the Adeptus Titanicus, but they, although on the same scale, are 2-4 times larger)

I must say thank you to the incredibly responsive Battletech community on this site - if it weren鈥檛 for yesterday鈥檚 responses to my post, I would hardly have found the strength to finish it right away, rather than being lost in thoughts about selecting colors and repainting the miniature for the next week

Love em, hate em, sometimes both in equal measure... It's the Urbanmech!
Still working on my edge highlighting, I have shaky hands.

A Wyvern-10N with a custom chassis.
In reality, I had a The-O miniature that was too small to fit in with my other Gundam minis, so I decided to use it as a battletech proxy.
The original intent was a Metagross paint job, but it read as Rei Ayanami鈥檚 Unit 00 so I leaned into it as I progressed.

So apparently there's a Cleveland Battletech League and they had a bit of a Macross/Robotech themed Alpha Strike bash for their 10th anniversary. Looks nice.

Modified play mode...
...probably best for Alpha Strike but likely suitable for classic Battletech if you really want: everybody starts with just infantry. Maybe six squads per side. Then, spaced out across the center of the map are some randomly chosen 'mechs.
Crewing up a 'mech takes X turns, where X is one-half its size class, rounded down- so instant for lights, two full rounds for Assaults. A squad that's crewing a 'mech can't move or shoot. Once a squad has been used to crew a 'mech they are removed from play.
Obviously, you can try and shoot down an enemy squad before they crew a 'mech. You can also attack unused 'mechs, leaving your opponent with damaged 'mechs if they want to crew them. Maybe there should also be repair kits- any infantry squad can pick them up but it freezes both them and the 'mech they're applying it to for it to be used.
I would say start with ten 'mechs on the table. If you wanted to raise the stakes from randomly picking, you could sort out two Lights, four Mediums, three Heavies and a single Assault that you could race for but is obviously very exposed and takes longer to get to.
