Had a Battletech: Alpha Strike Demo Day at the flgs today, and after a quick instructional game it was time to debut the first of the K’Urbie Legion! The rode forth to Glorious Victory over the big bully Atlas and it’s Locust minion! Eventually plan to have a dozen of these stupid things for a full list of stupid.

First platoon of Jump Infantry for my Mercenary force in Battletech
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was my first time painting infantry in 6mm, and I'm very glad I opted to let the wash do most of the work and avoid layering, as I would lose my mind
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The infantry models are lovingly resculpted rogue trader era imperial guardsmen, I found them on Cults under the name Retro Guard

I thought those perfectly fit the vibe I wanted, so I slapped on a generic steampunky jetpack, scaled them down, and voila

I know the leaves are pretty big compared to the scale, but I'm not planning on changing it, I like it

I finished Archer, which I posted yesterday. This is my first Battletech miniature and generally the first miniature of this scale (not counting a pair of titans from the Adeptus Titanicus, but they, although on the same scale, are 2-4 times larger)

I must say thank you to the incredibly responsive Battletech community on this site - if it weren’t for yesterday’s responses to my post, I would hardly have found the strength to finish it right away, rather than being lost in thoughts about selecting colors and repainting the miniature for the next week

Bit of a brush up on Alpha Strike, teaching a newer player the basics. I've had a real rollercoaster of feelings towards this game, with a trend towards the negative only because I find it a frustrating toolbox where systems seem to have been converted in isolation and they become more convoluted with every errata.
I also had the guilt of trying to hold back in a teaching game, but my opponent made a series of terrible rolls and misplays based on incomplete knowledge, and my Mercs came away with 5/8 mechs virtually fresh to the opponents 6/7 dead.
I want to love my stompy bots - but tired of needing to put so much work into making it play nice with itself. I ought try some other systems out there that are mech mini agnostic. Any suggestions?

Love em, hate em, sometimes both in equal measure... It's the Urbanmech!
Still working on my edge highlighting, I have shaky hands.

New Battletech minis! Very excited to paint these guys. Also the Battle Armor I got is either the wrong scale or it's signifigantly bigger than I thought lol. Pictured: 2 Schrecks (the tanks) 1 Raptor (the mech) 3 Inner Sphere Standard Battle Armors 6 Standard Infantry (the minis I bought were labled "House Davion Infantry" but I honestly don't know how you can even tell that detail at this scale lol)

A Wyvern-10N with a custom chassis.
In reality, I had a The-O miniature that was too small to fit in with my other Gundam minis, so I decided to use it as a battletech proxy.
The original intent was a Metagross paint job, but it read as Rei Ayanami’s Unit 00 so I leaned into it as I progressed.

An Aurora Borealis is Localized Entirely Within my Hobby Desk!
Shortly after getting my first 3D printer this past November (a Bambu Lab P1S), I knew that I wanted to print a mech scale DropShip. Considering that I love the HBS Battletech PC game, I wanted it to be a Leopard dropship, but I couldn't find one that was in proper mech scale that was simple to print and based on that version of the Leopard. Then I found the Borealis print from Thunderhead Studios. This is based on the Aurora dropship, and i LOVE this thing. it prints in FDM BEAUTIFULLY and the fact that the drop pods can hold units in them tends to delight and surprise everyone who takes notice (and who wouldn't in that beautiful Sword of Light red!)
Painting this beauty took me about a month because I wanted to take my time with her. Also, she is my first concerted effort to really weather a model using the techniques I learned from a 1:1 tutoring session from local artist Devin Bush who's weathering game is absolutely top freaking notch.
I am most proud of the corrosion on the central pipes along the spine of the borealis and the battle damaged fin (the final image in the gallery). The latter was a build/print error I didn't notice until well into painting the model. I decided to play it off as a significant piece of battle damage that the crew hasn't had a chance to fix yet. Thank Blake that we always have that convenient excuse to cover up build/print errors!
Overall, I am over the moon with how she came out. Now to make up some excuses to put her into a game...
