After 6 seasons in, how is it that these showrunners still can't make decent LI's for buck and eddie. All three main pairs have good relationship arcs. This episode proved that. If they want to push the het agenda with buck and eddie, do it with finesse. Kameron?? Lucy?? Brother lover?? I'd rather have Felicia if it had to be latinos for eddie.
But hey, Natalia still could be back and the boys get instant 2-3episode LI's.
Honestly, even Mavid had a better relationship arc than whatever they're throwing at buck and eddie.
Got this before the finale and

i think the chances are pretty good that we will see bucktommy experience some gradual steps in their relationship simply because we have 3 other main couples that have been established for years and that for the most part were handled differently. henren already long established, bathena marrying after very little buildup, madney more of a messy dramatic way of finding each other. in all honesty, the honeymoon phase is over for them, and they feel very very solid abd immovable in canon. which is great! but bucktommy is filling a void for the audience imo, hopefully giving us more focus on the "getting to know each other" phase of a newer couple. it's an ensemble show for a reason, so my fingers are crossed that 911 won't just jump into an established bucktommy that feels like we have already missed 18371938 milestones. especially after buck's long search for love, it would be cathartic to actually see him be sure of where he wants things to go and to be proactive with it. especially now for the very first time, he has a partner that has the chance to be well-integrated into the firefam!! they better us that potential 😭🙏
this is my thinking too! like comparing bucktommy to the other main couples re: how the show might go about their story is normal and okay and expected obviously but i don't think "bathena got engaged in half a season" is a good explanation as to how that'd be good writing for bucktommy. bathena knew each other for years, the audiences knew bathena as two separate entities so them not having a "getting to know each other" phase on screen was normal. also bathena both had been married before and recognizing thats what they want with each other coming quicker to them is in-character.
i think bucktommy need to get to know each other on-screen if they wanna establish them as a couple with any longterm potential. give the audiences the reason on-screen as to who tommy is and why buck feels this way about him. keep them in the honeymoon phase a bit longer where it seems easy (esp with this being buck's first time dating man), then throw in some relationship hardship (not anything extreme, just realities of a relationship), prove to the audience they can handle it and can continue as a real deal, then move them to the becoming life partners stage.
the verbal confirmation of what they have right now - what they started together - is literally in what buck says in 7x05. he doesn't know what he's ready for but he's interested in tommy and wants to date tommy. just let him realize what he's ready for - what he wants for real this time - on screen. let tommy be the guy who sweeps him off his feet (and vice versa) and the hunk in his bed before they realize this is serious and they wanna start sharing a life together.

This is going to be a very rambling and venty post cause im tired and annoyed and honestly am just using this to vent my anger/hurt. there is going to be stuff that can maybe be seen as anti tommy/bucktommy (please dont tell me a ship name to put i dont care about if they do have an agreed upon ship name right now) so if you dont want that please just move on. i dont want to fight i just want to yell into the void on a stupid throw away account so i dont bring my negativity stew and come out on my main blog where i just want to enjoy my stuff and just keep happy energy. I dont normally post and try and just find someone who explains it better because im not great and getting what im saying across or understood the way i want, so please bear with me. With that said i will move on to what i want to say
Okay so i have been watching 9-1-1 for years and i love and adore it. Its characters and dynamics and i have always loved found family. Now i will admit that i started watching it thinking that Buck and Eddie were a couple and had a son so i was kinda watching for it. Do i think if i didn't start watching thinking that i would ship them still yes 100%. I have always loved their relationship and i have loved watching both Buck and Eddie grow and start to be happy while also having each others back even at the worst times. Sometimes if i think to hard about Eddie and start crying cause I'm very normal about this show and it characters. Now Eddie is my favorite character in the show and at least in my top five overall favorite characters. I love him and his development and i adore seeing how much he does to just do right by Chris even when he messes up you can tell how much he adores that boy and how badly he wants to give Chris the best life possible. I could write essays about Eddie Diaz trying to explain how much i love him and why and i think words would run out before i could finish making people understand. Buddie is my favorite ship (sometimes second depending on my mood. i would say sorry but Henren and Madney will always be amazing ships and sometimes i just cant stop think about them)(Sorry Bathena i love you too i swear i just cant decide if i wanna kiss athena or be adopted by bobby and athena:( Its confusing) and has been for quite awhile and is one of my overall favorites and its one of my comfort ships.
With that context when bi Buck happened i was so insanely happy and i wouldnt shut up about it. it made me sick. i was so happy for Buck and while i think a part of me will always be a little sad Eddie wasnt his first kiss with a guy i dont think either of them are ready for that. i also understand that it wouldnt make sense for how the story is going right now. Now i have nothing against bucktommy in the show. I have watched the kiss scene and sobbed to much to pretend like i hate them or even dislike them. However I genuinely dont care about Tommy. Hes kinda bland and i forget about him half the time and before they brought him back i completely forgot his name. in my mind he was the one that wasnt as much of an asshole to chim and hen as the other two assholes which wasnt saying a lot. Now I dont dislike tommy nor am i going to act like hes irredeemable because neither Chim nor Hen seem to think hes still that guy and while they dont seem super close they seem to get along so clearly, he's not like that anymore. I have nothing that makes me dislike him nor do I like him. He's just there. He's just the guy buck kissed. Thats all he means to me. I would give up his screen time for Ravi or May or Karen in a heartbeat. because i love them cause they mean something to me. I don't think i thought about the fact that people might actually like him especially not more than EDDIE.
This is where the context matters cause i am to my core a one ship per person girly. I might see a ship and people who like it and even think thats not a terrible ship but i will still only look at content for my ship for that person (ie. i ship Destiel (dont say anything bad about them ill cry<3) but i can see the way someone would also ship Dean and Benny or crowley or Cas and Crowley or Mick but i will ignore the ship and move on and look at more Dean and Cas). normally i will just ignore the ship and move on because im not who its for. If it gets annoying in my tag or anything like that ill block it or whoever is annoying me cause its not a them problem that i dont want to see it. When i start to have a problem is when multiple people arent tagging right for whatever reason or people who are being rude about the ship i like because of their ship. When I started seeing Bucktommy stuff more and more in the 9-1-1 tag i went to the buddie tag cause i dont want to see them. my problem is that when im reading on AO3 and click on a fic tagged Buddie where bucktommy get married. it was literally just hurting Eddie. There was stuff before like id be scrolling though the buddie tag here and see someone saying that Tommy is a better character then Eddie and saying that they hope bucktommy is endgame. Whatever block and move on. Just like always but then people who have shipped buddie for years who ive seen talk about them are suddenly saying that they like bucktommy better. People who started watching because of bucktommy saying they dont like Eddie. People are going to have different opinions but it still bugged me. and then i read that and i was just hurt because it was tagged happy ending and i cannot fathom ever thinking Eddie hurting and pining is a happy ending. So i started to get more annoyed and i hate when that happens especially with a show i love and a character i dont dislike so i tried to just move on but more and more people are taking about it then i saw someone saying that they wanted eddie to die so buck and tommy can have Chris.
I just hate that so many people are jumping on the bucktommy train and saying that they like it better than buddie something that is so good and sweet or saying that they like Tommy more than Eddie. I just dont get it cause Tommy is boring. like yeah we now some about him and he flies a helicopter but hes forgettable he could be a completely different person and next to nothing would have to change. We have seen Eddie at his worst and claw his way back up and hes finally letting himself be open and honest and soft. Eddie couldnt be replaced. Now im not saying Tommy can't be an interesting character but as he is right now?? He just isnt. Hes just as bland as every women (minus Taylor and Shannon) Buck and Eddie have dated and been hated on for no reason!!! Like i get that Tommy is a guy and we got canon Bi Buck and people are happy but those same people turn around and shit on Marisol from what ive seen(I could be wrong cause again i have done my best to avoid). Buddie fans arent safe from that either, cause we all know that Buddie fans do that but so many of those people who hated on them and said they didnt want them with anyone else suddenly decided that they were okay if Buck ended up with any guy. I dont know its just weird and i hate how many people are acting like Eddie isnt always going to be better then Tommy. Part of me wanted Tommy to stick around and help Buck and Eddie figure it all out but now?? i honestly just cant wait for him to be gone cause I want to have fun and read fics for my comfort ship and just chill where i can see all of my ships in the show without buck and tommy being everywhere or people saying crap about Eddie.
I have more to say but most of its about how gratifying waiting and seeing where this whole thing goes(Buddie season 8 PLEASE!!) and this is already why to long and i think im just going in circles and none of this makes sense so ima shut up for now and hopefully this will help it not fester and drive me insane and become a tommy hater
Edit: but i also hate that Tommy calls Buck Evan so he already had some stuff against him rip
#911#buddie#anti bucktommy#i guess??#i dont know#i dont know what to tag this and just hope i dont upset anyone#anti tommy kinard#again i guess#but not really??#let me know if i need to add any tags:)

Finale Thoughts
This is a long ramble that I’ve attempted to categorise and form into something coherent - but bear with me if there’s any mistakes, I’m working rn and didn’t have time to proofread🙏🏻
HENREN & MADNEY
I adore Madney and how inherently GOOD they are all the damn time. My favourite straights ever.
I know there’s differing opinions on this plot line but honestly I am glad that Madney are fostering Mara, for Maras sake. It’s a safe space her for where shell be loved and can keep in contact with Henren.
I do agree, though, that the constant struggles they put Henren through as they try to build their family is getting old and tired now, let them off the struggle bus, it’s time for a breather.
It’s a testament to how rushed this episode was that we didn’t even SEE the councilwoman at all. She just drops this bomb on the Henren family last episode and then disappears? No follow up? Okay.
My thoughts/hopes on these guys for S8 are; Madney will be left as they are once the Mara storyline is resolved (which I think won’t take long after the whole Gerrard situation is sorted) as they’ve had a lot going on with their wedding etc. I think they’ll be put aside for a while while other characters stories are expanded this season. I think it’s a possibility we’ll get another Buckley-Han baby after they see the sibling dynamic between Mara and Jee. Afterall, it was Maddie who commented on Denny and Mara “getting along so well” “like siblings”.
Henren specifically id like to see more of, I want Karen and DENNY! to have more screentime. Karen’s job is fucking interesting, SHOW US MORE SOMEHOW!! And Denny, what’s going on with his relationship with his dad now? This kids a great actor, give him a little more screen time.
BATHENA & AMIR
Now, Athena was bad ASS this episode. I love BAMF Athena with all my heart, that’s literally my mother. Her talk with Amir was emotional and I think well written (one of the few well written moments in this episode..) but it all went downhill from there. Amir’s rescue was rushed as fuck, I wasn’t tense at all, Athena basically showed up, burnt the place down and sauntered out with Amir like it was nothing. Ofc my girl is capable of this no problem… but it wouldn’t have hurt to have had more of a fight scene, maybe Amir being a little more proactive, then show them struggling to get out of the fire? Idk. Just SOMETHING to expand on the scene a little. I did like “I’m Mrs Bobby Nash” though, hell yeah you are <3
Oh also Yay! May sighted!! Love my girl, wanna see more of her in S8 I miss her sooo much :(
For S8, I think Bathenas marriage issues should be gently explored a little more, i feel this plot line wasn’t properly resolved during the cruise eps? Idk maybe I’m just a nervous child of divorce but I’d like to see some of their trust issues put to rest. I mean, just an episode ago Athena was terrified Bobby was going to off himself, and Bobby literally retired without telling her. It’s not healthy, I wanna see them work it out and get stronger together. I don’t want more conflict between them to cause this though, maybe they just start up a conversation when things have calmed down and agree to talk it out or go to couples therapy or something. Leaving them where they are right now will feel like a dropped plot line.
I want to see more of Amir but I sincerely doubt we will, I have a feeling he won’t even be seen in S8 at all to be honest. It’s a shame, he’s an interesting character that I’d totally love the see explored more. Someone suggested he could be a connection opportunity for the hospital? I like that. Tim, take notes !!
I also want them to stop murdering Angela Bassets hair. Let her slay, please.
BUDDIE
I wish I had more to say here, but sadly… I don’t. My heart is telling me we’ve been gently queer baited once again, but I think that’s just old scars hurting (Destiel and johnlock survivor ✊🏻), my head is telling me a lot of the hype was stirred up by us as fans giving journalists and actors comments a little too much credit.
This isn’t to say I don’t think Buddie is happening, i still have my naive little belief that if WILL be canon eventually. They’re just going to drag it out as long as possible for the drama and possibly to appease Those fans, and the older viewer base who won’t be pleased by buddie canon.
I was very disappointed by the scene after Chris left, where Buck just put his hand on Eddies shoulder. We can say all we like that the shoulder touch is Their Thing™️ but in that situation a hug was absolutely goddamn necessary. Idc about shipping, that man needed a hug from his best friend in that moment. I think Buck needed it too. They just said goodbye to their son for an indefinite amount of time ffs why are we standing here like absolute mugs.
S8 - I want gay Eddie this season. I want it.
I want gay Eddie and then I want them both to be single for a while and Then I want buddie. If they can fit this into season 8 while keeping a nice steady pace (I have little faith after this insanely rushed finale, but let’s give them the benefit of the short season doubt) then I want Buddie feelings realisation towards the end of S8.. possibly setting up canon for S9 or even ending S8 with canon and a cliffhanger.. maybe a good one this time though!
As much as I’d like to see Buck supporting Eddie as he navigates life without Christopher, I don’t think we’ll get many scenes between them at first. I think this is where Ryan is talking about Eddies isolation. He’s going to go to work, be with his family, then go home and be without his family, and it’s at this time that he’s going to be working on himself. To get better for Chris, and for his own mental health. This journey is his alone, and I think it (although a little painful) makes sense that Buck isn’t involved in this too much.
EDDIE & CHRIS
To sum it up.. OUCH!
Eddie is an amazing father, and if you think otherwise just block me. He made a mistake with Kim, that does not make him a bad father. Him respecting Christopher’s space and choices in this ep was soooo healing and lovely to see, he called Buck because he knows Chris trusts and loves him and needed somebody to talk to, and knew he wasn’t the person for that right now.
I’ve seen some people bothered about how it’s unrealistic for the Diaz parents to have gotten to eddies so fast after the incident. To this I say, how are you not used to 911s complete disregard for timelines/timeline realism at this point? Just let it happen and move on, like it’s a fantasy land where time isn’t real. Now, I’m not American so maybe I don’t get the extent of the distance between LA/Texas - but still, I enjoy the show more I think, because I don’t overanalyse the timeline 😅
What I DO find unrealistic is that Chris would call his grandparents and not Buck. I’m not looking at this through shipping lenses either, I’m saying that when Eddie had his breakdown, Chris’s first instinct was to call Buck. When Chris was upset and scared at the Ana situation, he went straight to Buck. And now this, he doesn’t talk to Buck at all before calling his grandparents?
It makes sense that he wanted to go to Texas as if he stayed with Buck he wouldn’t really be getting much space from his dad, and maybe he’d be thinking that Buck/Eddie would be on his case trying to force forgiveness on him while he’s there. But I think he first instinct would still have been to Call Buck to discuss the situation first, to confide in him, ask for help. Then he’d call his grandparents.
For S8 - I hate to be a downer but I don’t think we’ll see Chris this season. At LEAST the entirely of 8a, anyways.
As I mentioned earlier, I think this season will show Eddie growing and healing from this situation and becoming the person he wants to be, for himself and for Chris.
I think there is a lot of potential for us to finally get some Eddie & Maddie scenes, she could open a conversation with Eddie about her own struggles with feeling like an unfit parent for Jee - maybe Buck initiates this conversation, asking Maddie to speak to him?
I hope he will finally be able to put his insecurities about his parenting aside and stop trying to find Chris a mother figure, and accept that they’re a fine (wonderful, even) family unit as they are.
BUMMY / BT
Ooooohhh lord let’s get into it then.
It’s no secret that I hate this relationship. I do NOT hate it because I am a Buddie shipper, or because I’m homophobic (the fact that I have to clarify this is stupid, but the anon hate in my inbox means it’s necessary). When BiBuck became canon, I was OVERJOYED! I was excited to see Buck exploring his identity and enjoying a relationship with a new partner (I did want him to be single for a while originally, but it wasn’t a big deal, the Natalia relationship was barely a relationship anyways).
I initially had a bit of an ick from the way Tk kissed Buck to ~shut him up~ but I’m a bit of a hypocrite here because I don’t entirely hate this trope usually, but only when it’s between two well established characters who know each other well. At this point, Tk is still new to Buck so it did bother me a little. But, we move.
Then… the first date. I fucking hated this date, Tk almost outed Buck and then left him on the pavement like an a class ASS. I lost all interest in this relationship at this exact moment.
In this episode, on this date, we see Buck opening up about his relationship with Bobby as a father figure (WIN!! Let’s appreciate our small victories!!). Tk then gives us “but your fathers alive” which ?? What’s your point?? Why aren’t you comforting your partner right now?
And shared his own experience with having a shitty dad. We then get the daddy issues joke.
To detour for a moment; we all remember when Buck went to therapy and opened up about his sex addiction, right? How he was being vulnerable about his trauma/mental health, to the point that he was in actual tears… and then his therapist came onto him and slept with him. The show brushes this under the rug and even later makes a joke about it. We’ve all expressed our distaste for this in the past and rightly so. Aside from how morally wrong it was, it was also incredibly distasteful in a very real way.
We’re given a very close repeat of this situation in the finale. Tommy sexualising Bucks trauma is not only unfair on bucks character, but also a shitty slap in the face to real people in the real world too. How many times have we been sexualised for having “daddy issues”? The answer is a lot. This scene was Downright Offensive.
It’s so disappointing because in some ways this show is so progressive, and has handled some sensitive topics in such a great way in the past. But it’s really fumbled the bag with this one.
A large and hopeful part of me thinks all these tense/awkward/unhappy/unsatisfying BT scenes are a setup for BT bones in S8. If they wanted us to like Tk and be invested in this relationship, SURELY they’d make him more likeable & more supportive of Buck?
The awfulness of his character and the stilted scenes between him and Buck do feel intentional. And I reaaallly hope this is the case.
S8 - preferably, BT Bones off screen before the season even begins, Natalia style.
More likely, BT bones within 8a, due to Gerard’s return and the tension this will cause between him and Tk.
Most likely, BT bones by the end of 8b. I truly truly truly, with all my heart and head and hands, do not believe BT is surviving to season 9.
BUCK
just wanted to put in a little paragraph here about Buck specially, piggybacking off of what I’ve said about his trauma being sexualised etc.
They have consistently missed opportunities to flesh out Bucks trauma, and he has MANY to choose from. If they continue to ignore this aspect of Buck, it will be a great disservice to his character. I know we all joke about wanting Buck to go through more shit situations for the angst, and how we want him to have a big breakdown at some point but honestly - it really is overdue. I don’t just want him to suffer for funsies, I want his character to make sense, I want him to continue to be massively relatable, I want him to address his trauma and work through it and move on etc. etc. etc.
Here’s hoping we get the single Eddie and Buck arcs in S8/maybe 9 and both of them get therapy, properly.
RAVI
My boooyyy!!! The framing of that last shot, I do reckon Ravi will main soon. They didn’t drop his insane childhood lore, and built on him as a character (while Chim was at the academy with him) for no reason.
I am personally really looking forward to seeing him get a lot more screentime in S8. It’s what the people want!!!!!!
GERRARD
Why did they act like this was such a major twist?? Like why else would they have shown him last episode..
I don’t really understand how he can have been made captain of the same firehouse he was removed from for bullying a crew that is literally still there.. but for the plot I guess we’ll go with it!
I look forward to him finally getting his comeuppance in season 8, but the asshole he’s going to be to everyone sounds less fun.
Let’s look at what we might have in store, hm?
-Racist to Chim, Hen and now probably Ravi too.
-Homophobic to Buck.
-If Bobby is around, no doubt he’ll be demeaning to him.
-And, i fear, if he somehow knows about Eddies current situation, will he make snide remarks about him as a father? Idk, I wouldn’t put anything past the bastard.
I’d really like to see the team take a stand against him though, I know he’s their captain for now and they will, to an extent, respect him (or at least do as he says). But it would be nice to see some firefam crew solidarity the face of his bigotry and bullying. It won’t be realistic if any of them just stand by and listen/watch while he makes shitty racism/homophobic jokes to their family.
Going to be a fun (🫠) few episodes!
FINAL THOUGHTS
As an episode, this wasn’t horrendous, but certainly not great. As a finale, it was terrible. Underwhelming sums it up, disappointing emphasises it nicely.
I look forward to getting back to a full length season that has hopefully will be written a little more in advance than this one was. Let’s be optimistic, or this hiatus won’t be too enjoyable.
Can’t wait to spend the next few months binging Buddie fics and reading all your theories!! And don’t forget we get S8 BTS pics in just a few weeks 😭🫶🏻
Feel free to send me any asks if there’s something I’ve forgotten to mention that you’d like my thoughts on - or if you have any theories etc. I love to get asks from your guys 💛

911 writers wanted to have their cake and eat it too, trying to fit a Hangover-style plot into a single episode dedicated to the Madney wedding. And frankly after everything Madney has been through, I would’ve preferred something stripped back, simple, focused on the couple and everything that’s gotten them to this day, surrounded by friends and family. I would’ve loved an episode centered on love finding a way, dedication paying off, with sweet parallels reflected in all the other relationships in the show, how Madney has influenced and been influenced by Henren, Bathena, and Buddie. I wish they hadn’t overcomplicated things to this degree, KNOWING there isn’t enough time, and I doubt tonight’s episode is going to have any kind of cohesion or emotional payoff. Like, I get it, it’s a cool concept, but if you don’t have time, then you should strip back your ideas until you have something that does fit 40 minute runtime, you don’t try to cram in a bunch of stuff just because Wow Cool. This feels tone-deaf, like when you ask a five year old to plan a romantic anniversary, and he goes ahead and orders 200 cupcakes, a magician, and a bouncy castle.
In general, I wish 911 would slow down and stop prioritizing spectacle over substance. As a thought exercise, the writers should do a bottle episode: one location, simple plot. Then they will be forced to focus once again on characters, on the simple things that make this show great, not all this glitz and glamour and high-octane, high-budget bullshit.
(And once, just ONCE the writers should be made to study and highlight the impact of previous episode decisions. I’m tired of lead characters damaging each other, making dumb and/or brilliant choices, and we never see an ounce of impact. I’m talking Chimney punching Buck, I’m talking Buck body-checking Eddie, any one of these characters dealing with a long-term pain from an injury, there are SO many examples. When there's no follow-up to moments like this, no closure, I stop caring. Clearly the writers don't care, it's all just plot glitter, so what's the point?)
Listen, for all I know, I’m whining for nothing and they’ve kicked it out of the park with this episode. But I’d be shocked if that’s the case, and more likely I’m afraid I’ll turn back to this post after the episode has aired and be like, “*sigh* Same old, same old.”

9-1-1 Season 6 - Constructive Criticisms #12
Madney: Maddie & Chimney
Madney is the “ship” name for Maddie Buckley’s and Chimney Han’s relationship. It’s a portmanteau or a combination of their first names as it combines the first three letters from Maddie of ‘Mad’ with the last three letters of ‘ney’ from Chimney or Mad + ney = Madney. They’re both main characters while their daughter Jee-Yun is a recurring character. Maddie and Chimney were friends first before they entered their romantic relationship towards the end of season 2 and they’ve been together for almost four years. They broke up after Chimney found Maddie in Boston during season 5 and they remained separated until the beginning of season 6.
Madney met in 2x6 when Chimney installed Maddie’s security system in her new apartment. They began as friends who spent a lot of time together on “Buff-Fridays” but they didn’t officially start dating until months later. They experienced several traumas as a couple over the years and the first one involved Maddie’s estranged husband Doug stabbing Chimney in 2x12 and capturing her. It was the first of many but they stayed together and overcame a lot of other traumas both individually and jointly including Maddie being accused of stalking a 9-1-1 caller, the arrival of Chimney’s half-brother Albert, Chimney’s fear of going home after the lockdown ended in 2020, Maddie’s worry regarding whether she would be a good mother to their daughter, Maddie’s PPD, Chimney leaving to find her and their breakup.
Chimney told Hen that he and Maddie had forgiven each other for all the things they endured which is great but the issue is they still haven’t talked about all the invisible elephants that are standing inside of the rooms in their house. Issues with money, marriage, their future and most importantly them being afraid the other one is going to leave are still festering and have been for a while. All of these are red flags that happen in the majority of marriages but they don’t just work themselves out unless the two people involved in a relationship take time to discuss them.
In previous seasons, their storylines had depth and meaning but in season 6, they didn’t and it was very noticeable. Them deciding to buy a house came out of nowhere when there was an easier solution and the marriage proposal dragged on for way too long. As individuals, other than Maddie’s encounters with Noah, the foreshadowing of Chimney becoming a captain and the storylines that included their toxic parents, neither one of them had a significant storyline that stood out from the rest of the ensemble cast. They’re both main cast members which means the opposite should have been true.
The Madney ship and the characters of Maddie and Chimney weren’t given the attention they deserve the same way Bathena and Henren weren’t and it’s ridiculous because Madney’s relationship has always been one of the highlights of the show. In the past, their relationship was showcased as two people who were good friends who enjoyed spending time together but it eventually grew into something romantic that was filled with undying love. In season 6, their relationship was overshadowed by distractions, houses, money and toxic parents.
Full Disclosure: IMO, in 6x1, after Jee-Yun said, “Mama leave?”, it was foreshadowed that either Maddie or Chimney is going to leave the relationship and the foreshadowing continued throughout the season with both of them running away and avoiding the difficult discussions they needed to have. I didn’t post any blogs about it then because I wanted to see if the narrative would change in 6B but it didn’t. Also, I wanted to see how their actions would play out for the remainder of the season so that I could provide an objective analysis of their relationship.
My twelfth set of “constructive criticisms” regarding the Madney ship and the individual characters included in the Buckley-Han families in season 6 are included below the cut. Please note criticizing a TV show is NOT a bad thing especially since TV critics have been doing it for decades. Constructive criticisms are designed to help make something better and they are VERY different from negativity. A person can offer criticisms about a form of entertainment they spend their time watching and not be negative about it the same way two people can agree to disagree on a topic. Just because one person liked the season, they shouldn’t expect others to feel the way they do because everyone has their own opinions. Simply put, two people can have different opinions about 9-1-1 and those opinions can COEXIST since they are not mutually exclusive.
If reading criticisms about the TV show 9-1-1 upsets you, then don’t read below the cut.
Warning! ⚠️“Constructive Criticisms” Ahead!⚠️
Disclaimer: Even though time constraints and the presence of an ensemble cast usually dictate how things are presented on-screen, it’s important to note, in the past Madney’s conversations were included in CANON so the narrative could be followed and so that it made sense. But in season 6 there were HUGE issues with continuity for all the main characters but especially for Madney because they were GLARINGLY OBVIOUS since they weren’t allowed to have important conversations on-screen.
Madney’s Relationship
As mentioned above, Maddie and Chimney have been in a romantic relationship for more than four years, it could have been five but they were friends first and they broke up for a few months after they returned from Boston in 5B. They began dating in season 2 but when Chimney was on his way to take Maddie out on their first date, her estranged husband Doug stabbed Chimney and abducted her but they stayed together and continued to build a solid foundation for their relationship.
Maddie took a pregnancy test in 3x18, it was positive and their daughter Jee-Yun Buckley-Han was born in 4x9. They had been living in Chimney’s apartment until Maddie got her own place after they returned from Boston in 5x13 but she moved back into his apartment in 6x1 and they bought a house together at the end of 6x9.
Prior to season 6, Maddie and Chimney had a lot of conversations some of which were difficult including Maddie being accused of stalking a 9-1-1 caller, Chimney telling her he was in love with her, Maddie’s fear of whether she would be a good mother along with the conversation they had while they were in Boston. But the issue in season 6 was they weren’t allowed to talk to each other on-screen. They haven’t had an open and honest TWO-WAY conversation about their relationship since 5x12. She proposed to him in 6x17 but they still didn’t talk about their issues and she did all the talking during the proposal. When he tried to explain that he was in a different place, she told him to “Stop” and they didn’t discuss either of their fears about getting married.
Instead of talking to each other, they spent the entire season talking to everyone else about their issues and other people talked about them too.
Chimney had a conversation with Eddie and Bobby in 6x1 when he ran away the morning after their one-night stand.
Maddie talked to Josh in 6x1 before she promised Chimney she wasn’t going to leave.
Maddie talked with Josh in 6x15 the morning after the accountant told her and Chimney, they should get married to save money on their income taxes.
Chimney and Hen had several conversations in 6x16 about Chimney proposing which is not unusual since they’re best friends but he didn’t even know if Maddie wanted to get married.
Buck and Hen argued about it in 6x16 because Buck felt like they should have pushed Chimney to propose while Hen suggested they let him figure it out on his own. (This conversation shouldn’t have happened because the proposal wasn’t about either of them. Possible reasons for their conversation were included in “Constructive Criticisms #11”).
Maddie talked with Buck, who is her brother about the engagement ring in 6x17 and he said something about his conversation with Hen from 6x16 that prompted her to go talk to Hen.
Chimney asked Gina, the insurance representative if he should propose in 6x17 while he was filing the insurance claim.
Maddie went to Hen’s house in 6x17 and invited herself in without a greeting followed by them discussing the proposal among other things.
Money & Marriage
Money and marriage were two huge themes within their relationship throughout season 6.
Maddie mentioned how combining their incomes helped them to be able to afford a nanny in 6x5.
Every house Maddie said they viewed in 6x8 was either not right or out of their price range.
In 6x10, Maddie asked Chimney if he was still bothered about having to borrow the downpayment for their house from her parents.
In 6x15, Maddie insinuated Chimney wasted money on ice cream, she told him in front of the IRS representative that she pays more than 50% of their household expenses and the accountant suggested they get married to save 14K in income taxes.
They couldn’t afford the downpayment on their house BUT CHIMNEY SPENT thousands of dollars on her engagement ring in 6x16. The prices of the engagement rings he looked at on his phone ranged from $7,000 to $15,000 USD but they had to borrow money from the Buckley parents to purchase their home. None of this made any narrative sense at all.
In 6B, it was consistently implied that Chimney is frivolous with money when he was never shown to be like that in previous seasons. Chimney’s fictitious salary is more than 100K annually while Maddie’s is closer to 60K, therefore the implications of him mismanaging money didn’t make sense especially since she earns WAY LESS than he does. Also, the more than 400K she received from Doug’s estate is gone because she said she spent it when she went to Boston in season 5. So, WTF was the goal here?
What was the show trying to insinuate? It appears they were attempting to show Chimney doesn’t contribute his fair share to their household expenses which was absolutely ridiculous when prior to season 6, NEITHER OF THEM WERE SHOWN TO BE BAD WITH MONEY AND THEY DIDN'T MISMANAGE THEIR FINANCES. Chimney had his own apartment that he paid for all on his own, way before Maddie moved in and reminder, Buck had to move in with him after he left Abby’s apartment in 2x8. In season 5, he spent all of his savings chasing Maddie and she spent all of hers too, so what were they trying to accomplish with this asinine storyline/arc for Chimney because he’s not frivolous with his finances?
The proposal
Chimney’s decision to propose was dragged out for far too long and even though he didn’t propose to her because she proposed to him in 6x17 and he said yes, they still didn’t talk about any of the issues surrounding their relationship. Chimney talked to Hen about his fears in 6x16 and he talked to the insurance representative too in 6x17 but he NEVER TALKED TO MADDIE about them (see all the people he did talk to above). Maddie talked to Buck and Hen about her fears but she NEVER TALKED TO CHIMNEY. Therefore, they both have fears that have yet to be addressed.
There were TOO MANY people involved in the proposal that shouldn’t have been, i.e. the entire 118, with Bobby offering to officiate when Chimney tried to explain he and Maddie probably wanted something small. Buck saying he needed to do a grand gesture, Ravi suggesting Chimney’s idea was kind of lame while Eddie was the only one who told him it was his choice. Everyone offered their two cents while they were in the firehouse but HEN WAS THE ONLY ONE who kept it real with Chimney when they were in private, even though he didn’t want to hear it. Before Maddie proposed, Chimney was still wishy washy about it because he wasn’t sure. Did he say yes? He did but the foreshadowing and the narrative were clearly telling a different story.
Just like in real life, almost everyone wanted Maddie and Chimney to get engaged because they like to see weddings and people get married but as mentioned earlier, they weren’t TALKING TO EACH OTHER ABOUT THE IMPORTANT THINGS that still plague their relationship. The question is, do they really want to get married or were they both being shown to be in love with “the idea of marriage”? It’s always been clear that they are in love with each other but being in love and being ready to get married are two different things.
One of the few things season 6 did well was illustrate how MADDIE AND CHIMNEY AREN’T READY TO GET MARRIED. Once Maddie proposed in 6x17, it was like everything else that led up to it DIDN’T HAPPEN. Chimney told Hen in 6x16 they forgave each other for the hurt they caused and experienced but it doesn’t erase the palpable fear they have that one of them is going to leave the relationship (see below).
If the narrative continues, it’s unlikely a wedding will happen at the beginning of season 7 for them unless it’s forced because there were still too many things left unsaid between them. Did they get engaged, YES! But they still haven’t had an on-screen conversation about the DIFFICULT topics they refuse to discuss and they represent the red flags that were waving inside of their relationship throughout the season.
Here’s evidence to prove a wedding might not happen between them anytime soon. In 5x13, after they returned to L.A., Chimney told Hen, “All those other times we were apart, it always felt like it was outside forces, ex-husbands, pandemics… this time it feels like the call was coming from inside the house”. Then he told Hen in 6x16, “The universe is trying to tell me something. Every time me and Maddie, try to make something real and concrete… it falls away like sand. Maybe it's time I start paying attention to that”. He made those comments one year apart so it’s possible they won’t be getting married until they deal with their past.
Madney’s pasts
When Chimney found Maddie in 5x12, they agreed they were going to keep communicating about the difficult things but they stopped in 6A and it continued through the end of 6B. Even though they had an off-screen conversation before 5x13, while they were driving back to L.A., they’ve rarely been shown talking about anything important. They talked in 6x1 after Maddie’s apartment flooded, they hooked up but he ran then she talked to Josh and he told her maybe she needed to talk to Chimney instead of waiting for him to talk to her. They talked about Magda in 6x5 but they didn’t talk about Maddie’s fear at the end of 6x4 after she helped Lourdes and Claribel. This is important because Maddie will probably always struggle with the fact that she was in a domestic abuse situation but her and Chimney haven’t discussed it on-screen which means they’re afraid to approach the subject. Chimney told Eddie in 3x4 that he wanted to tell her that he wasn't anything like her psycho deceased husband while she was shown to still clearly be traumatized by it.
In 6x4, they didn’t talk about Chimney being trapped in the car with that drunk driver and they weren’t shown discussing Noah’s arrest in 6x5 since he was the one who stole Maddie’s password. Also, other than the money Margaret and Phillip lent them, they haven’t been shown discussing their toxic parents even though there are CLEARLY ISSUES especially since in 6x10, Chimney told Buck that the Buckley parents were on their best behavior but he didn’t know why and it was something new for him to worry about.
Couples Therapy
While Maddie and Chimney have been to therapy individually, they’ve never gone to therapy together. In 3x9, Chimney told the 118, he went to therapy after the stabbing and in that same episode, Maddie was in therapy again after Sue ordered her to go. She checked herself into a clinic after she tried to commit suicide following 5x3 but Chimney hasn’t been shown going to deal with the paralyzing fear he felt after she left.
They’ve experienced some very traumatic events that might only be resolved in therapy. The synopsis for 6x1 stated they were going to couples therapy but it NEVER happened. Maddie made a promise to Chimney that she was there for their family but that’s not the same thing as talking through their issues and facing their shared traumas. They’ve forgiven each other but they still haven’t talked about Chimney’s fear associated with Maddie leaving and they haven’t talked about Maddie’s fear of leaving Jee-Yun for six months. She talked to Buck about it in 5x15 but she hasn’t been shown talking to Chimney. He talked with Bobby and Hen in 5x13 about his fear of leaving Jee-Yun with Maddie and he was scared to death when he got home and saw the light in the bathroom on but they haven’t discussed it.
Red Flags
Their relationship was plagued with red flags throughout season 6 including the house they purchased combined with the crippling fear they both have that involves the other one leaving.
The house
There was an abundance of red flags associated with their new home. First, Josh said it was a “murder house” in 6x9 but after Chimney did some research, he learned the owner ABANDONED it after her husband and three daughters died in a car accident. They didn’t have the money for a down payment and based on their actions in 6x8, they only bought it so Jee-Yun would have her own bedroom. They could have moved into a two-bedroom apartment and it would have solved all their problems but for whatever reason, they chose the more difficult option.
They couldn’t afford any of the homes they looked at and they couldn’t afford the down payment on the house they ended up buying so they had to borrow the money from Maddie’s parents. Maddie told Josh the house wasn’t finished which means even though everyone wanted to see it, no one could stay with them. The renovations were timely and costly but Chimney was trying to make it work. Before and after the Buckleys arrived, Chimney planned to give the seat at the head of the dining room table to Phillip. Seriously, WTF was that even supposed to be? (See Chimney’s section for more info on this topic.)
Then Albert showed up in 6x10 with not one but TWO UNANNOUNCED guests, Sang and Albert’s mother without even talking to Chimney before they arrived. In 6x11, Margaret wanted to buy some plants to decorate the place the same way she bought Buck a couch which wasn’t necessary. The illusion Buck and Albert had of them being the perfect family during the dry lightning storm in 6x10 was another issue. In 6x13 Rhonda Fitzsimmons, the coupon forger, barged her way in without being invited and Jee-Yun hid Maddie’s engagement ring in her plastic doll house in 6x16 which is where Maddie found it in 6x17 and then Maddie proposed to Chimney with a big and flashy fake ring.
Reminder, 9-1-1 doesn’t do coincidences and everything that HAPPENS IN CANON, HAPPENS FOR A REASON. Therefore, the issues associated with their storylines of ABANDONMENT, UNNANOUCNED AND UNIVITIED GUESTS, THE PLASTIC DOLL HOUSE, THE FAKE RING, HOME OWNERSHIP, HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD AND FAMILY were all highlighted for a reason. The reason wasn’t revealed, so hopefully it will be in season 7.
Being afraid the other one will leave
It’s clear Chimney is still afraid that Maddie’s going to leave and it’s been foreshadowed several times. In 4x1, after Eddie and Hen moved out of Buck’s loft, Chimney was too scared to go back home even though the lockdown had been lifted. In 5x3 after Maddie left, he was terrified something happened to her or someone forced her to leave even though Buck told him sometimes she just leaves. Then he told Buck he didn’t want to think badly of her. In 5x18, he thought she wanted to start seeing someone else and in 6x1 he left after they hooked up because he was afraid that she was going to leave him again. Also, his face wasn’t shown when Jee-Yun said, “Mama leave”, which could mean he’s still afraid of it.
He was the one who suggested they buy the “murder house” in 6x9 even though Maddie was clearly not too excited about it. He admitted in 6x10 that the renovation was taking its toll on them and that it was mainly spearheaded by him and in 6x16 he told Hen marrying Maddie was what he wanted but he hadn’t talked to her to see how she felt about it.
The conversations he had with Hen in 6x16 were very telling and illustrated how he’s not ready. He said, “This is not about the money Hen. It’s a sign!” but she responded, “It’s a ring, an object. You can get another one.” He shook his head no and replied, “The universe is trying to tell me something. Every time me and Maddie, try to make something real and concrete… it falls away like sand. Maybe it's time I start paying attention to that”.
The kicker happened in 6x17 when he asked Gina, the insurance representative if he should propose or not and he pleaded with her for her opinion. She responded, “I think people look for signs when they’re afraid of making a choice. Afraid to make the wrong one.” Chimney responded, “Ouch! Brutal but probably accurate.” When he asked her if she was married, she replied she’d been divorced twice and he asked if she regretted it, then she responded that she regretted the results not the attempts. He was still unsure but when he finally went home and Maddie proposed, she didn’t let him finish what he was going to say. She proposed and he said yes but they didn’t talk about either of their fears.
“Something stinks”
The theme of 6x16 was “something stinks” and every emergency the 118 was dispatched to involved something that was foul and odorous. The first emergency was the woman with the tonsil stones and the next one was at the dump. Chimney and Hen spent two hours searching for the engagement ring in that same dump until Athena arrived. Therefore, could the theme of the episode be alluding to Maddie and Chimney’s relationship since they keep allowing things to pile up without discussing them?
Howard “Chimney” Han
Chimney barely had two solid storylines in season 6 and neither of them were given the attention they deserved.
He was completely under-utilized in 6A and he was treated like a recurring character until 6x9 when he and Hen went to the murder house. Also, he really didn’t have any important conversations with anyone this season until the latter half of 6B. He had one with Hen in 6x16 after he lost the engagement ring and he had one with Ravi in 6x14 about Ravi returning to the 118. The flashback conversations he had with Hen and Karen in 6x6 don’t count because they happened years ago.
Some of the decisions he made were contradictory and out of character. In 4x6 he said he believed in jinxes and in 6x7 he said the same thing about curses but in 6x9, he not only researched a “murder house”; he bought it. Therefore it didn’t make any narrative sense for him to be the one to find the house but it was probably set up that way so they could bring in the Buckley parents.
Chimney’s interactions with Sang Han, his biological father were atrocious and were treated like an afterthought especially since Hen told him in 6x10 he needed to tell his father how much he hurt him by not being there and for abandoning him. He didn’t have the conversation on-screen with Sang and in 6x13, he told Denny he let it go even after Albert’s mother guilt tripped him into believing he was prideful like Sang which is NOT TRUE.
Man of the house
In 6x10, Chimney was WILLINGLY going to give the seat at the head of the table in HIS OWN HOME to Phillip Buckley simply because the Buckley parents gave them the money for the downpayment. If Phillip would have sat in that chair, it would have been a MISTAKE! That’s his and Maddie’s home so they shouldn’t be relinquishing authority and the decision making to anyone because they’re the decision makers. The gesture was nonsensical because Chimney wouldn’t have done that if they borrowed the money from someone else. If they had borrowed the money from a bank, he wouldn’t have offered the chair at the head of the table to the bank’s CEO. So, WTH was that even supposed to be?
This instance relates back to the money issues that plagued their relationship all season and it’s not fair to his character. He’s been on the show since season 1 but he’s been sidelined a lot and has been shown to play a background role to Maddie even though she didn’t arrive on the show until season 2. Also, when she left in 5x3, he was sent off to find her even though he had a FULL SUPPORT SYSTEM IN L.A. Buck and Albert were there and so were the Lees, therefore he could have stayed and let them help him raise Jee-Yun while Maddie could have gone to a facility in northern California (detailed posts that include this topic linked here and here).
For the entirety of season 6, Chimney was made to look like a guy who was prideful (comment made by Albert’s mother), irresponsible with money (Maddie’s comments about him buying ice cream and her paying more than 50% of their household expenses) along with the lost engagement ring and he was made to seem like a man who couldn’t adequately provide for his family (he couldn’t afford the downpayment but he could buy an engagement ring). These were assassinations to his character and they weren’t fair, therefore, it begs the questions of why was his character handled in this manner? Was it done on purpose? If so, then it’s unclear since he’s a main character.
Captain
Chimney was a great captain in 2x17, 2x18 and 4x14 (he stepped up while Bobby was trapped in the warehouse with Ethan Copeland) when he wasn’t trying to emulate Bobby. After season 2, he was never shown having any interest in being interim captain or a captain at all again and he’s mentioned he didn’t want it several times. He said it in 6x1 and he said it again during his performance review in 6x14.
The way Bobby handled telling Chimney he’s a good leader was ridiculous. First, they should have had the conversation they had at the end of 6x14 in 2x18 when Bobby returned after his suspension but since they didn’t, it should have happened in 6x1. If Chimney is supposed to be the next captain of the 118, it doesn’t follow the narrative or the foreshadowing that’s been done over the last six seasons. It’s possible Chimney may become a captain at another firehouse instead of the 118. In 6B, it was hinted at when Chimney went to the academy and when he sat in Bobby’s chair in 6x16 that he "could" become the next captain of the 118 but the narrative has always shown Buck as Bobby’s mentee which means if it continues, it’s very likely Buck will be the next captain of the 118 not Chimney (more on this topic in next Monday’s post). Ravi (mentee) is to Chimney (mentor) who Buck (former mentee) was to Bobby (former mentor) (post regarding this topic linked here).
On the job injury
Chimney being hurt was continuously foreshadowed throughout the season. He was trapped in the car with that drunk driver in 6x4, in 6x10 he was supposed to be the one on the aerial but Buck went up instead and in 6x18 he got impaled with that piece of metal from the gurney after the bridge collapse. These were all instances where he was either in danger or could have been seriously injured but like everything else, the finale was rushed and he was on the mend and back at work quickly. In 6x14 he told Hen, Eddie and Buck that he would be there when they’re all gone but the question is, will he? Who knows but if they keep foreshadowing his death or him experiencing a permanent injury, it’s possible it could be related to whether he becomes a captain someday.
Maddie Buckley
Maddie also had a limited number of storylines in season 6 and she was treated like a background character for most of the season too. Aside from Noah trying to frame her in 6x5 when he stole her password because he thought she wouldn’t get in trouble and the coupon forger in 6x13, the rest of her on-screen time was the result of something else that happened, i.e. the proposal and Buck getting struck by lightning. Chimney found the house and suggested they buy it in 6x9 and he was the one who was going to propose but she found the ring in 6x17. Other than that, there weren’t too many storylines for her as a main character. The prank her and Linda played on Josh in 6x9 was unnecessary.
Fear and uncertainty
Maddie’s still unsure of a lot of things and even though she said she was done running in 6x1, her reactions and responses to a lot of situations and emergencies were very LOUD. In 6x9 she wasn’t comfortable with the house Chimney found but she went along with it because it’s what Chimney wanted. In 6x10 she admitted she didn’t always have it right before her parents arrived. She told Athena, Chimney and Bobby in 6x13 that she didn’t like feeling uncomfortable in her own home after the situation with Rhonda Fitzsimmons. She told Hen in 6x17 that the people at the treatment center didn’t teach them how to reacclimate themselves back in with the people they know. Furthermore, Maddie was always OUT OF THE ROOM whenever the difficult topics were being discussed. When Chimney’s argument with his dad during dinner happened along with Buck’s sperm donation conversation took place, she went to check on Jee-Yun instead of staying for the discussion. There aren’t any coincidences on the show which means these things were intentionally done but the reason was never provided.
Flashbacks of her life with Doug
In 6x4, the call she took from Claribel rattled her and she may have been having flashbacks to her time with Doug. She was paralyzed with fear which is understandable so it begs the question as to why she and Chimney weren’t shown discussing it. Also, in 6x13, Rhonda Fitzsimmons barging into their home made her feel unsafe and rightfully so but they didn’t talk about it after everything was over. She was shown to be “going with the flow” again with regards to the house purchase. She was unsure about it and it kind of seemed like she was doing it to make Chimney happy the same way she went along with the renovations. Also, she told Josh at the end of 6x15 that she thought she’d never get married again but she and Chimney never discussed it since they were committed to each other and raising their daughter together. Prior to the accountant mentioning it, had she ever thought about it? Viewers don’t know and probably never will because she was barely on-screen in season 6 even though she returned to L.A. after 5x12.
Still absent from 118 gatherings
She wasn’t present with the 118 this season and her interactions with the three people she was allowed to talk to, i.e., Hen, Athena and Bobby all seemed contrived and weird especially since she’s interacted with all of them in the past. Buck is her brother and Chimney’s now her fiancé but the saga of Eddie and Maddie not talking to each other in CANON continues (detailed post regarding why they haven’t or won’t until something happens linked here). She was absent from Hen’s medical school party in 6x5 but she didn’t have any problems walking into Hen’s house unannounced in 6x17 when she wanted to confront her about the things Buck said Hen mentioned regarding Chimney proposing to her.
Relationship with her parents
It’s unclear where Maddie stands with her parents because in 4x4 she told Buck she wanted her daughter to have a normal family and Buck told her she should have gotten knocked up by a guy who had one of those. But in 5x12, she told the doctor at the hospital in Boston that she didn’t discuss her medical history with her mother. The Buckley parents weren’t mentioned in season 4 or 5 after Jee-Yun was born and in 6x10 through 6x11 while they were there, the only real conversation she had with them was about Buck’s care. Does she want to have a relationship with them or not? Or maybe she wants to have one with them for Buck’s and Jee-Yun’s sakes which she said in 4x4 but that’s difficult to assess too since no one including her has said anything about it in more than two years.
Jee-Yun Buckley-Han
Jee-Yun is only two years old which means she may not get her own storylines for a while but her holding on to the engagement ring in 6x16 for safekeeping was great. Hopefully, her character will become a main character soon since she’s the daughter of two first responders.
Madney’s Future
Based on the way season 6 ended for them, it appears a wedding is on the horizon but it’s possible it could be delayed for a while. Even though the marriage proposal turned out great and it was awesome that Maddie was the one to do it, the season ended and THEY STILL HADN’T TALKED ABOUT THEIR ISSUES which is a problem all on its own. There were also an abundance of unanswered questions for the Madney ship in season 6 including:
Where does Maddie stand with her parents?
Where does Chimney stand with his father?
How do they really feel about getting married?
Are they going to discuss their differences or just keep going with what everyone else expects or believes they should do?
Will they ever go to couples therapy?
Will they approach the topic of how fearful they both are of losing each other?
Season 6 didn’t do the Madney ship any justice because they deserved so much better than what they got. A long-drawn-out marriage proposal without them talking about everything else was very LOUD. They were shown to be two people who didn’t know each other but that’s so far from the truth because they were friends first and they clearly know each other but their relationship wasn’t handled properly for the duration of 6A and 6B. It could have been better if the show would have allowed them to have their HAPPILY EVER AFTER instead of throwing all the foreshadowing into the mix.
Will the show address their problems in season 7? Hopefully or otherwise they won’t be doing Madney justice because they deserve a HAPPY ENDING that’s not faked or forced. How will things happen for them in season 7? Will they get married early on or will it be delayed until who knows when like everything else was in season 6? Only time will tell but hopefully, the Madney ship and Maddie, Chimney and Jee-Yun will get the attention they deserve.
These are my criticisms regarding the Madney ship and the individual characters included in the Buckley-Han family and “Constructive Criticisms” #13 will be posted on Monday, August 14, 2023.
I have a total of 15 CANON “Constructive Criticisms” (3 remaining) and my goal is to have all of them posted by Monday, August 28, 2023. The topics are being posted in a specific order that begins with the overall issues for season 6 so they can be referenced within the posts about individual characters and ships that will follow them.

I just saw someone post a screenshot from an article that says season 6 will wrap up personal relationships and some fans will be talking about it during the interim.
Here’s what I think that means:
The personal relationships we have are Madney, Bathena, HenRen, Buck’s, Eddie’s.
HenRen- If they show anything in the end of episode montage, it’ll be them with Denny and Denny’s bio dad. They’ll all be laughing and smiling. Happy. Wrapped up.
Madney- I really hope they don’t, but they could marry them in the hospital. If they do- boom that’s wrapped. If they don’t, it still is because they’re alive and engaged.
Bathena- Bobby doesn’t die. Oliver said something about Bobby in his live. I think it’ll end with Bobby and Athena together just enjoying the other’s company, and if the writers remembered the honeymoon, they may be going on a vacation. Wrapped.
Eddie- He and Marisol will 10000000% be dating. There is zero doubt in my mind. It was very explicit last episode that it was going to happen. I have a another post about how what Bobby said and what Eddie said about looking for love wasn’t a hint that he and Marisol wouldn’t get together, but instead just a badly written cliche line on Eddie’s part. Check that out for more on that. But, yeah, no they are together 100% by the time the episode ends. If there’s a happy montage, it’ll be Eddie, Marisol, and Chris. Which is so wrong, especially because Eddie wouldn’t want to introduce Chris to someone that fast, especially when Chris didn’t even know that Eddie was thinking about dating, but the show wants to wrap it all up. So that would be wrapped. If they’re paying it forward, then she would be helping with some sort of construction, unless they’re taking her doing that last episode as enough of that.
Buck- Kameron will have the baby on Buck’s couch, or at the very least her water will break. That’s obvious. I saw someone say this, and I honestly believe it, but I think Natalia might help Kameron. Paying it forward from the death doula to bring in new life. Buck goes to the hospital to see Kameron and the baby, Natalia is there. They talk, she apologizes, says she was wrong to leave, that she’s ready to meet him where he is. He’s so happy and says “that’s great!” She tells him there’s one thing they need to do. They buy a couch together. Wrapped.
The “some people” are buddie fans who are mad that Eddie and Buck ended up in these relationships that the show thought were endgame. Make no mistake, I don’t think we’ll even get a single scene of Buck and Eddie together alone at all. If they talk, it’ll just be in the engine on the way to the call and apparently during the head count. Interim just means during the break, until the show resumes again. It’s not pointing to a monumental Buddie moment, it’s just saying that during the break people will be talking. And I think it’s gonna be us on here.
Buddie made too much narrative sense for a show that didn’t mean to make it happen.

shipping is weird. sometimes it happens because a character stood next to another character, sometimes you have to wait for a character to say it out loud before it clicks. maybe you realize when they get with someone else, maybe they get together and the chemistry you were sensing evaporates immediately. sometimes it’s On Principle, others it’s just I Just Think They’re Neat. I could go on….
when it comes to Buck and Eddie, I was in a weird position because I technically started shipping them before I ever watched the show, from seeing posts about the lightning strike. that was what made me get started, almost made me start with s2 but I held off, deciding I wanted the excitement of seeing a “later” character show up after going through the hours before their arrival.
and…nothing happened. I never had that “aha” moment that I usually get with my ships, especially the ones I want to see go canon. I thought maybe it was because my moment happened before ever watching the show, or maybe because I’d been spoiled on certain plot points. but as time went on it was apparent to me that, well, Buck and Eddie were friends. very close friends, to be sure, but friends- nothing else going on below the surface.
which makes it hard to articulate why I feel so jerked around. I understand on some level that it’s my own fault, that I got swept up in fandom a bit and started thinking “yeah! yeah this is happening! not sure in what capacity but it is happening!” like I always figured there was a strong chance that the writers would swerve and it would turn out we were all reading too much into things, but I knew in my gut that whichever way it went, we’d have our answer by the season finale. and we got it. it wasn’t the answer we wanted but I figured that if there was any moment to make Buck and Eddie romantic it was now, and the show said no. and in the end, that’s ok. I can recover and take the L and keep watching the show because I love the show regardless of Buddie and they’ll always be friends and brothers in arms and that’s good on its own.
what I don’t get is how these writers keep fumbling these romantic relationships with them! this show repeatedly struggles giving Buck and Eddie romances that the audience can really care about, and it’s weird. Buck has failed to have any chemistry with women after Abby (and they really tried with Taylor,) and Eddie keeps having chemistry with women the writers just aren’t interested in matching him up with. (genuinely thought Ali had more chemistry with him than with Buck, but they paired her up with Buck? Marisol is cute, but I thought he had better energy with the woman his aunt set him up with?) do they give everything to Madney, Bathena, and Henren, and just- not have anything left for Buck and Eddie? They have such great romances on this show, but have such difficulty scrounging up anything of the same caliber for the boys and that’s- that’s weird, right?
all of this to say, maybe the writers should stop forcing stuff with Buck and Eddie’s romances and just let them stay single and happy that way, let the magic find them instead of shoving shapes into holes they don’t fit. but who knows, I’m not the one writing a successful long-running show, maybe I’m wrong.

Reasons/signs why buddie is likely to go canon
Hey, Nonnie! Oooo, great question, okay I've got to think about this.
I would say the main reason why Buddie is likely to go canon is because both Buck's and Eddie's stories are so intertwined, it only makes sense for them to get together. Not just as family but also romantically. They are literally the answer to what they're each looking for in a partner. Nothing else makes sense though the show has had quite a few opportunities to veer off of this course for a while now but they haven't taken them, and instead seemed to have double downed on it, getting us closer and closer to Buddie canonization.
As for signs, hmm...
Well, other than seeing Eddie pining for Buck and how much we're getting closer to that portion of the story where it will be confirmed in some way, they've given us more than a few. But I'll pick the main ones:
1) Eddie and Ana breakup - a previous nonnie mentioned how Ana is essentially the perfect woman for Eddie and I agree, she's good on paper (in season 5 at the least), which we saw being shown in that firehouse scene in 5x02. There is literally no reason for these two not to stay together (except for it not being what Eddie wants and their severe lack of chemistry/love). Christopher loves her and from what he said, he obviously expects that a marriage is in the future. She would be a good support for Eddie, she's empathetic and she's always reaching out to him and Christopher physically. She also would be a great partner, not just with Christopher, but also in certain situations like we see in the firehouse scene. She immediately took charge of the situation when it appeared Eddie wasn't going to when it came to Ravi and sort of made it a little easier until the wife mention. And then she rolls with it when Eddie asks Ravi to give her a tour so he can make his escape. She's perfect on paper. So for them to show us this, this late in the game, only to turn around and discard it soon after because it's what's triggering Eddie's panic attacks due to it not being what he wants...to me, that's a huge sign we're heading to a Buddie canonization. Especially, when Ana has been paralleled and contrasted with Buck several times during the short time of her relationship with Eddie. Especially since Buck has to be the one to tell Eddie to let Ana go and not hurt her if she's not what he wants. Especially when for a second there, it became The Buckley Diaz family vs The Flores Diaz family and we know who won out in that round in Eddie's eyes and which one he felt more at ease with.
2) The parallels - I know we always talk about these but I believe this is one of the most telling signs that we're heading to canon Buddie. Buck has been paralleled to Chim, Hen, Bobby, Athena, Karen, and of course Maddie. Eddie, the same. Not to mention, Buck and Eddie have been continuously paralleled and contrasted to the romantic partners in their lives, both past and present. With all of this foundation being built, with all of these direct parallels and contrasts, there's no way Buddie isn't going canon. They've been weaving this story way too intricately for it to be loosened or unraveled or to start weaving something new for one of the guys or both now.
3) The other relationships around Buddie - time and time again, Buddie has been linked/paralleled/connected to the other canon relationships in the show: Bathena, Henren, and Madney. Not to mention that they've done this within the context of romance, such as the 3x13 scene where Eddie asks Buck if he wants to come over. Which Buck declines and then they go about having Hen confirm she and Karen have a date night, then Bobby has one with Athena, and then Chim wants to spend the night with Maddie, so Buck ends up alone. And they've also done it a few times in framing:
You have Bathena and Henren on one side, and Madney on the other, with Buddie in between. Not only are they trying to throw strong hints at us but there's literally no reason for them to keep doing this if they didn't plan to make Buddie romantic at some point and endgame (especially when paralleled with Bathena and Henren). If they wanted to only display the deep partnership and friendship, the only relationship they should be paralleling/keep getting connected to is Chim and Hen's partnership/friendship.
4) The stand-ins - each time there seems to be some sort of separation between the two, physically or emotionally or both, they've opted to use stand-ins for both characters. The biggest examples are Lena for Eddie during the lawsuit arc (standing in for Buck), Marjan and TK in the crossover (standing in for both Buck and Eddie respectively) Ana (besides being who Eddie felt he needed to move on with, she's a stand-in for Buck in 4x14), and Taylor (standing in for Eddie in 4x14). The fact that they use stand-ins, to me, is a very big clue. These two have come to rely on each other that much that the story/writers need to provide them with stand-ins, usually in the form of women (and TK, a confirmed gay character who mistakenly thinks Buck is hitting on him at the end of the crossover). They also use smaller characters in the story to be stand-ins for Buck and Eddie as well, in certain situations (not all of them women) and aren't necessarily provided for the other character to interact with, i.e. Corey the gunman in 4x08 was a stand-in for Buck (so was Mr. Nowels), Brian the fake firefighter in 4x06 was a stand-in for Eddie, the guy Eddie beat up over the parking space in 3x05 was a stand-in for Buck, etc. To me, that's a very big tell.
5) 5x01 relationship link - they purposely showed us that there is something missing in each relationship for each guy, even though they have these seemingly perfect partners for these points in these guys' lives and where they're currently at. And it revolved around the physical. For Buck and Taylor, it was sex on the surface but had more to do with the emotional, since we saw Taylor was determined to find the answers about what happened that day than focus on Buck. For Eddie and Ana, we get a hint that their relationship has progressed physically by a comment and reaction, then we see Eddie having a panic attack, but underneath it all, he was triggered by the store clerk mistaking Ana as Christopher's mother, and there is a lot more since Dr. Salazar intimates that Eddie is repressing the anxiety aka something emotional. Not only is that a sort of vague parallel between both relationships, but it's also showing us that there is definitely something missing from both of these dynamics for both guys. (which is why it doesn't surprise me in the least that Eddie is able to talk candidly with Buck in 5x02 and vice versa)
6) Eddie and Buck only seem to be able to be truly vulnerable with one another - this to me, is just a given at this point. Not that we haven't seen Buck be vulnerable with Bobby or even Maddie (I would say Maddie and Eddie are the two people who know Buck the best out of everyone and who Buck can truly be vulnerable with, while Bobby and Buck provide that same dynamic for Eddie), but there's definitely an exclusive window into Buck that Eddie has, with and without Buck's invitation. Eddie sees Buck for who he is and vice versa. To have this unique part of their emotional relationship exist, and then it's contrasted to all of the romantic partner in their lives who can never seem to have that access, is another big sign to me. They could have kept it strictly as two friends, two partners, who just get each other, and that's that. And then eventually a romantic partner would come along for one guy or both who would after a time (and possibly approval from the other, depending how cliche and trope-y they would have wanted to get) gotten that access as well. But they didn't. They've made this vulnerability pretty much exclusive with the exception of Maddie and FireDad.
7) Show making Buckley Diaz family official through legal guardian reveal - if there was ever a big neon sign flashing (without showing us Eddie's feelings) that pointed the way to Buddie, this is it. Is it possible that two friends, two partners, two brothers, could have also had this development without any future romantic implications? Sure. But that's not how it went down. If it did, we would have had the reveal a lot sooner or happening when Eddie first woke up or happening at another time when Eddie is in danger or wounded again (like this alleged hostage situation coming up). But instead they chose this very specific timing and context of when Eddie chose to reveal this information to Buck. Because it absolutely is not about their friendship or Eddie's concern of what will happen to Chris should he not be around anymore. He doesn't even know about the crane climb (at least that we saw). But he chose to reveal it right then because Buck had said it would have been better for Chris if he had been shot. Not to mention they showed us Eddie's reaction to this line:
Eddie needed Buck to know that he matters to Christopher, to him. That he isn't expendable. And Christopher 99.9% of the time is synonymous with Eddie. And Eddie uses the mention of Christopher as a shield. The legal guardian reveal was all about Eddie, and Buck. And the show purposely chose to put it in this context and within this dynamic and timing when they didn't have to, in order to keep the lines clear. Instead, they double-downed on the Buckley Diaz family and how it would lead us into the next season, and how it would affect these two specifically, whether that be the dynamic at work or outside of it or both.
There are many other signs but these are the top 7 off of the top of my head. Buddie's going canon. There's no two ways about it. And while the relationship may not happen instantly, a conversation (and realization) is definitely due to happen this season. Eddie's feelings are all but glaringly obvious enough that they're written in Sharpie on his forehead and I don't see how Buck can remain oblivious to this fact much longer (or to his own feelings), whether that's him seeing it himself or someone else pointing it out to him.
I hope I was able to answer your question thoroughly, Nonnie! Thank you for the ask! Hope you have a wonderful rest of your weekend!!! <3

the 911 fandom and female love interests: a controversial hot take
here is my hot take of the day that will probably piss off a lot of people but it’s just my opinion on how the fandom has reacted to female love interests for buck and eddie, specifically ana, and how members of the fandom have been reacting to those reactions.
i’ve seen a lot of posts saying stuff like “you only dislike ana because she’s coming in between buddie” and i’m here to say: so what?
now, i would like to preface this by saying i don’t dislike ana as a character and have a massive crush on gabrielle walsh, but to be completely honest i don’t have much of an opinion on ana except for that i think she’s pretty and i don’t like her and eddie together.
do you want to know why? because she does not have a personality outside of her relationship with eddie and her connection to christopher. there is literally not enough information about her as a character to even develop a strong opinion on her. the only substance we have that we can develop a strong opinion on is how she impacts the main characters.
here is a list of the things we know about ana:
she was christopher’s english teacher
she’s latina
she has a family member named edmundo
she told eddie that christopher has limitations and that there are things he won’t be able to do
she got her doctorate and is now a vice principal
she’s a good cook
she’s dating eddie
that is the extent of what we know about ana flores. is any of that worthy of hating her? no. but is any of it worthy of being really emotionally invested in her? also no.
now here is a list of things that have happened with other characters as a result of ana flores:
christopher fell off the skateboard (not directly her fault but it was made very clear that eddie blamed her and yelled at her about it)
christopher got mad at eddie (on two separate occasions)
eddie didn’t notice his own son sneaking out of the house
eddie acted like a completely different character for an entire episode
don’t get me wrong, i think she’s had some good impacts too, but those are the things that the story has highlighted. not to mention the fact that eddie now has a canon significant other and it is less likely that buddie will become canon any time soon.
now, are any of those things worthy of hating her? no, mostly because the majority of those things were not her fault, but the way that the storylines were written, they were directly connected to her influence and presence in the story as either christopher’s teacher or eddie’s girlfriend.
the fact of the matter is that ana has gotten zero development as a character and currently has very little substance outside of being eddie’s girlfriend. and this is not a new thing that the writers have done. see: ali.
ali is introduced not as a love interest but as an emergency victim. we see her interact with buck and eddie for two episodes, don’t see her for six episodes, then see her in the last episode of the season only for her and buck to break up. her sole purpose as a character was to be buck’s girlfriend for half a season and then break up with him.
here are the things we know about ali:
she designs hotels (i think? something like that)
her boss sexually harassed her
she was trapped in a high rise during an earthquake with buck and eddie
she dated buck for an unknown amount of time
she travels a lot for work
she helped buck find an apartment
she broke up with buck after his leg got crushed by the ladder truck
none of those things really merit any kind of a strong opinion on her. i don’t even think she was mentioned for the majority of season 2B unless it was plot relevant that buck had a girlfriend.
love interests that are not main characters are not well developed characters because they don’t need to be. they’re not people, they’re plot devices for main characters to develop or for storylines to progress in a certain way.
look at the actual well developed romances on the show: bathena, madney, henren, even buck and abby although it was just one season. all of these relationships are between two main characters or a main character and a prominent supporting character. henren slightly less so, but they’re established as a couple at the beginning of the show and get their fair share of storylines, so they still have development.
it’s very difficult to be invested in a relationship between a complex well developed character and a fairly one dimensional undeveloped or under developed character, and it’s also difficult to be invested in a character that has a very one dimensional personality.
ana has basically no flaws outside of the skateboarding incident, so what else would people be disliking her for if not for that she’s coming in between buddie? and if people are disliking her for coming in between buddie, then that’s completely valid. i’m very emotionally invested in buddie and really want them to become a couple, so i’m kind of annoyed that they’re bringing in a female character who has no personality except ‘love interest’ and making her be eddie’s girlfriend.
now, i’m not saying that means it’s totally okay to say “ana is a horrible person and i hate her because she’s coming in between my ship” because all evidence points to her not being a horrible person and it’s definitely not okay to say that. but it is completely valid to say “i really don’t like this character being on the show because they’re not developed and are coming between a ship that i’m very passionate about” and that doesn’t make you sexist or racist or whatever else people are saying, as long as that’s genuinely why you don’t like her.
these are fictional characters, not real people, and it’s valid to not like a fictional character because they’re preventing a storyline from happening that you really want to happen.
most importantly: THIS DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANY RIGHT TO ATTACK GABRIELLE WALSH. she is not a writer on the show, she did not write ana this way, she did not choose to have ana be eddie’s girlfriend, she is not the reason why buddie is not together. she is an actress who was hired to play a role and she is doing an amazing job with what she has been given. if you’re going to dislike any real people, dislike the writers because they’re the ones who are writing the story this way.
to sum up a ridiculously long post: if you love ana flores, great! if you hope her and eddie are endgame and have a very long and happy relationship, then you do you. if you’re kinda eh on ana and don’t feel strongly either way, that’s totally fine! if you really don’t like ana, that’s also totally fine! if you like ana as a character and think she has potential but you don’t like her and eddie together, awesome! if you’re secretly praying for lena to come back and for her and ana to be girlfriends (like me), then please come talk to me because i would be so here for that.
you are entitled to your own opinion, but that does not give you the right to insult other people or call them names for their opinions or to harass the actress who is just doing her job. respect other people’s feelings and decisions and remember that these are fictional characters whose sole purpose is to create an interesting and entertaining story, and if you dislike a character because you feel like they’re getting in the way of an interesting and entertaining story, you’re 100% entitled to that.
so please, stop attacking other people for their opinions and for the love of god, do not attack the actors. thank you for coming to my ted talk feel free to send me pictures of gabrielle walsh or scream at me about 911 whenever you want!
#i’m definitely gonna get shit for this#i spent a long time writing this and it’s probably incomprehensible but i hope it makes sense#911#911 fox#ana flores#buddie#ali 911#eddie diaz#evan buckley#ana x eddie#eddie x ana

In response to this. I am replying in a new post bc I have the "no sense of brevity" flavor of ADHD so I know this is gonna get long.
@yramesoruniverse thank you so much for asking, as a matter of fact I do have some thoughts *cracks knuckles*
Let me preface this by saying I am not going to sit here and pretend I don't spend 90% of my waking hours ruminating on this. We all know what we're doing here. That being said, I have considered several variations on how I would love the 9-1-1 team to deliver this:
1. Let's call it the "Two Trapped Dads" scenario:
I implore you to consider the ANGST and POETRY of Buck and Eddie getting trapped somewhere, as civilians, and being forced to depend on each other in order to survive. The serve of this hypothetical scenario would be made more rich set in the context of them having had an argument, or just there being some kind of withstanding tension between the two that has been ignored and left to build to a nauseating degree.
(Side note: I love Buck and Eddie because when they fight it's never with any real animosity. It always stems from the terrifying magnitude of their Love for each other. It's not arguing, it's just them caring about each other very aggressively. Absolutely iconic.)
ANYWAY, in this scenario they careen into disaster over Christopher, as I see it playing out that for some reason they believe only one of them will be able to 100% make it out alive. I imagine the tension has been building since the guardianship bomb and Buck regresses to what he believes he does best, which is being a sacrificial lamb, which shoves their moment from 4x14 back into the forefront. It would force Eddie to not only seismically double down on what he said, but literally spell out to Buck what he means to Eddie, not just Christopher.
Example:
Buck: Obviously you're the one that's getting out, you have a son waiting for you.
Eddie: Screw that, you mean just as much to him as I do.
Buck: I'm irrelevant unless you're dead, Eddie, and there is no way I'm letting you die here today.
Eddie: You're such an idiot, Buck. How can you still not get it?
Buck: Get what?
Eddie: We're a family. All three of us. What did you think that whole will thing was about, anyway? Christopher and I . . . there's no us without you.
jfc someone stop me before I write an entire script, but I think you get the gist of this one.
2. Next we have the "Just-Tell-Me-What-You-WANT" scenario:
The Drama Queen in me is obsessed with this one. It would, unfortunately, require a significantly laid foundation between Buck and a love interest (Taylor ig? It's not important, tbh). Originally, I had this scenario flipped, but since we as a fandom have collectively established Eddie as the Pining Idiot in Love, we're gonna switch it up.
So, again, Buck would be progressing significantly in his relationship with [insert intentionally poorly-defined love interest here]. In the fallout of the guardianship scene, I can still see him struggling with how to untangle his Feelings about what Eddie said to him, and losing himself in the disingenuous familiarity of "Buck 1.0" (I am with Eddie in that I hate his software updates but it's canon material so there you go). The escalation of this hypothesis results in Buck contemplating taking the next step with Taylor or, more realistically, contemplating moving out of the city with her as she's been recruited for a promotion elsewhere. I could see Eddie coming over to Buck's place and them discussing this, because they discuss everything, and Eddie just getting more and more exasperated because Buck doesn't look happy but he won't stop and think, he's just barreling ahead as usual. And so Eddie calls him out.
I think it would be something like Eddie going, "What are you even doing? You obviously don't want this."
And Buck being like, "I'm not discussing what I want with you."
and Eddie just exploding, "What? What do you want, Buck? You never express what you really feel so just . . . what do you really want?"
And Buck just going fuck it and grabbing him and pressing years of want and need and love into Eddie's mouth and yeah *fans face* I'm FINE.
3. Finally, the "Wait-For-Me-To-Come-Home" scenario:
Ideally a season finale moment, paralleled to the other couples on the show. The episode would feature a series of calls relating to couples/families experiencing some degree of separation but always finding their way back to each other. At the end there's a montage of Bathena, Madney, Mavid, Henren etc. reuniting after some sort of contention and then it would stop on Buck alone in his apartment, sitting at his table identical to what we saw in Tsunami Pt. 2, completely overwhelmed by how quiet it is and how alone he feels. And maybe Buck is considering something he heard on one of the calls. Whatever the situation, it ends with him heading to Eddie's house and it's late, like two in the morning late, and the final scene is Buck knocking on Eddie's door looking wild-eyed and desperate and there's no dialogue, just them. And Eddie opens the door wider and steps back as Buck steps in and they just stand a breath's distance away, just staring at each other, and then Eddie closes the door and everything fades to black and *flings myself off a cliff*
Bonus: I call this the "Fever Dream" scenario because I dreamt it when I was, in fact, feverish and hallucinating after my second COVID vaccine:
Buck is out running an errand before going into work and ends up in a robbery situation where he obviously intervenes and ends up getting hurt. The episode would open with the 118 being unable to reach Buck and ragging on him, and the first call they respond to is, indeed, Buck on the verge of death. The rest of the episode would then show the sequence of events leading up to that moment and finish with Buck and Eddie in the back of the ambulance, and Buck just touches Eddie's face, or wraps his fist around the St. Christopher necklace hanging around Eddie's neck, and Eddie is Not Handling Things and then Buck flatlines in the back of the ambulance and jfjdsaldflja somebody stop me before I write a fic *flings myself off another cliff*
As you can see I haven't thought about this much at all. Also, you deserve a fucking award if you made it to the end of this.
I have buddie brainrot! They're actually ruining my life! I have lost control! I'm doing GREAT!!!
#buddie#somebody take my brain away from me#I would like to put it away for a few days and be free from this endless cycle of violence#evan buckley#eddie diaz#idiots in love smh#greatest love story of all time though#buddie meta#long ass post#speculation

Hiii!! i love your optimism but i'm so scared for buck and taylor. like having one scare for their relationship in 5x09 and it turning out to be nothing and them actually coming out of it stronger is great, but having another literally one episode later is scaring the crap out of me. what do you think it could be? do you think taylor might find out about eddie's will and not be ok with it? do you think she'd want family and kids with buck, or at all? 'cause we do know buck loves kiddos.
Well I definitely wouldn't be worried if I was you, because BuckTaylor are clearly set up to be an endgame couple like Bathena Madney and Henren (and like Mavid were), and the only way that doesn't happen is if the writers take a sharp left turn into pandering.
And I don't really have enough to go on to guess what the drama might be, but I highly doubt it'll have anything to do with the will. Like that was only ever going to be relevant if Eddie were to die, and since he's quitting the 118 it's even LESS relevant because he doesn't even have a dangerous job anymore.
As to Taylor wanting kids, I feel like it could easily go either way. I could see her being the kind of person who wouldn't necessarily want to carry her own child, but is all for wanting to adopt a kid. And honestly? After Maddie's experience with PPD I think Buck would be fine with that too, because that's one less thing he would have to worry about if he and Taylor ever had a kid. Either way, I'm pretty sure the subject of kids isn't likely to be their source of conflict.
I honestly LOVE the theory that Taylor's father is going to come back in some big way, and that's going to be the source of the drama. That's my favorite so far, but I'm not sure I have an opinion on how likely/unlikely that would be.

8, 14, and 5 for both in the 911verse asks
8. OG or LS?
OG. I love the firefam and their extended families. I love the bonds and dynamics. Each person has a different relationship with others and they spend a lot of time focusing on that which I really love.
I'm not a huge fan of LS, I don't hate it but I'm not a big fan of it either. I haven't seen any of s3 but I pay attention to what people are saying about it so if something happens that really interests me I'll definitely pick it up again.
14. What got you into the show?
I kept seeing gifset on tumblr from old mutuals that had started watching the show and I wanted to know who the heck these gay firefighters were. The more I looked into it the more I fell in love with Hen and then as the show went on, I fell in love with everyone else...especially Eddie.
For LS, I started it because I had heard it was a spin-off OG and I like Rob Lowe's acting as well as Liv Tyler. I didn't really fall in love with it the way I did with OG unfortunately.
5. favourite friendship, relationship, or pair/group of people.
OG
For OG, my favourite friendship is Hen and Chimney. They compliment each other so well and each has their own strengths. You can tell they have been friends for a really long time when the show first starts and that continues as you get further into the show. They are always supporting each other and I love that about them.
My favourite relationship is Eddie and Buck. Both as a ship and just as a regular relationship. They are two guys who just bonded when they met each other. They trust each other, which is something that is hard for Eddie especially to do and from that, I knew I was going to love their relationship. As a ship I think they would be a great couple, however, if that ship never sails, I'm perfectly okay with that because the relationship these two have is so dynamic and deeply satisfying for me to watch week after week.
My favourite canon relationship is a tie between Madney and Henren (though I absolutely adore Bathena as well). I wish so much we got to see more Henren together because we simply do not get enough of it or enough of Karen imo.
I gotta go with the whole firefam for my favourite group of people. These guys are exactly what I love about a found family. They have their differences but they somehow all manage to work it out because they each know that they would die for each other and love each other.
LS
Favourite friendship for LS is definitely the trio, Paul, Marjan and Mateo. I want so much for us to get more of these three (though especially Paul, my boy doesn't get enough love). You can really tell that in the small amount of time they've known each other, they've really become close and are like siblings to each other.
Favourite relationship is definitely Grace and Judd. These two are couple goals (at least from what I've seen of them). I've also seen a lot of gifsets of Judd being really happy that he's going to have a daughter and I know they are going to be awesome parents.
For non-canon (since I did buddie for the other one lol) is NancyxMarjan. Please let it happen 911 gods.
Favourite pairing/group of people, I'm going to go with the firefam for this show as well. They all seem to just connect in a similar way to the OG firefam and I always love that kind of found family. I've seen that they are all in separate firehouses right now and I hope they all can get back to the 126 soon.
#ducklingstrand#thank you for the ask#i'm a much bigger og fan than ls fan#but i do like ls#what we see of the firefam's relationship as well as how they relate to each other individually was definitely my favourite part#of what i watched#might pick it up again if i see stuff i like#the cryptid speaks#sometimes i scream into the void
