Welcome to Part 4 of Let's Play Some Demos | LPSD! In sum, these videos and streams aim to introduce gamers to, usually, Indie games! For this episode, I, once again, looked through my Steam Wishlist to see who had demos available. For those who are new, the purpose of this video series is to provide commentary and feedback on the games for educational purposes.

Today, I played demos for 4 games:

Death's Hangover Death's Hangover is a ball and bat game, featuring horror elements, mature comedy and themes.

Fae Farm Escape to the magical life of your dreams in Fae Farm, a farm sim RPG for 1-4 players. Craft, cultivate, and decorate to grow your homestead, and use spells to explore the enchanted island of Azoria!

Fate/Samurai Remnant "Your wish shall perish..." A Holy Grail War begins in Edo Japan. A brand new Fate action RPG presented by TYPE-MOON and KOEI TECMO GAMES.

Mini Settlers Mini Settlers is a minimalistic city builder! Settle islands, construct cities, and design efficient logistic networks to fulfill your buildings' needs and fuel population growth to adventure into new worlds.

The verdict? Fate/Samurai Remnant was removed from my wishlist, to my dismay. It is a SPECTACULAR game visually; the animations are smooth, the combination of a realistic background and anime looked like they belonged together, the characters are interesting, the sound design is off the hook, the animations are smooth, and it's gorgeous! The story reminds me of Zatch Bell, and had me hooked from the beginning! The subtitles were easy to read! AND it gave me a headache to play. It was too zoomed in and, during combat, I didn't have enough control of the camera, which was constantly spinning, seemingly, as I was turning towards opponents. It reminded me of Dynasty Warriors. And the controls were too easy for me to forget. For people who do NOT get motion sickness from games, I recommend it. My favorite one was Mini Settlers, funnily enough. After recording the video, I moved on from the Tutorial Island. I was having more fun with it than I expected! It's why I posted this to the blog so late! The more I played, the more I wanted to keep playing! And THAT'S a compliment! The art style is simple and memorable. and, while I, initially, had issues figuring out the mechanics, it encourages you, or me, to keep playing to figure it out. My main criticism is the color of the icons where your tools and craftable buildings are; they're all grey. The color to show what they represent would make things go more smoothly, at least for me. And, since I need to have a browser over top of it to keep me from playing so I can write this, I can confidently say I'm loving it! Fae Farm would probably have me sucked in if it weren't for Mini Settlers; it's my second favorite of the bunch! The art style was adorable, the non-binary representation was refreshing, and the customization was fun! The story was cute too! It's the 3D and more focused version of Mini Settlers; you have YOUR farm and YOUR home to tend to, not an ENTIRE city. It kept things more focused, which was nice. And the fact they had romanceable NPCs was a plus. The color scheme was bright and fun! The map was, eventually, easier to navigate; it made the area seem bigger than it actually was, which confused me a bit. What kept me from getting frustrated was the quest tracking; it had an arrow to point me in the right direction, provided I remembered to activate it. So, when I did, it was a pleasant discovery every time! The only way I would play Death's Hangover again is if someone bought the game for me. While I love ball and bat games, I've never been good at them. It was fun, but I had trouble playing it. I don't know if it was the color scheme and/or if I had issues keeping track of the ball. While the story, Dracula stole souls from Death and now you have to get them back, was amusing, I wasn't compelled to keep playing. I did appreciate the art style, though. We need more, good pixel art games.

It’s raining in Dark City.

It’s always raining in Dark City. Urban legend says the clouds cleared once and the sun broke through, on a Thursday afternoon in the middle of July. Men vomited, women wept, non-binary people fled shrieking from the light, and a surprising (not surprising) percentage of the city’s population was revealed to be vampires looking for a safe refuge.

The streets are silver in the moonlight, barely brightened by the glow of street lamps that haven’t been cleaned since the industrial revolution. People hurry, their coat collars popped high, their hats drawn low, their hands oddly empty of umbrellas. There’s no point in Dark City. Umbrella or no, you always wind up getting wet.

The sound of screams splits the night, shrill and insistent, and what seemed to be a gargoyle on a nearby rooftop straightens and springs into action, revealing itself to be a lithe, long-limbed man who is inexplicably wearing skin tight gray spandex while he does his evening parkour. No one who sees him bats an eye. He is justice. He is the law.

He is a private citizen with no legal authority or training in conflict de-escalation. Dark City has never had a police shooting. The police are too busy helping the criminals—many of whom had to be bussed in from other communities; the people of Dark City are smart enough to choose safer professions, like lion-taming or shark-fluffing—through their recovery and rehab.

Somehow, they never seem to catch The Scowl. Even though he seems like he’d be fairly easy to find, they’re all too scared to put the hours in. Last year he paralyzed a man for tax evasion, and broke another’s legs because he’d been seen jaywalking.

The people of Dark City are afraid. But when asked why they don’t leave, they shrug and ask, “Have you seen his hat? Cool hat like that, he must be a good guy.

“He must be on our side.”

He’s not.
