Reddit user r/Scarlett-Crypt posted a TierMaker for the Holiday Barbies from 1988 - 2024, so naturally I wanted to share my version.

But then while I was looking at it I noticed a trend in my own preferences so I had to redo it for a laugh.

My Top Ten Barbie Movies

With the movie approaching, I'm dubbing this Barbie Month, and pushing back on the Studying part of the Masterpost for a little longer. July is pink party time!

Today, I’m sharing my Top Ten Barbie movies, which I wonder if they’ll be controversial! Share yours, lets compare!

10: Christmas Carol. She cast herself as the villain, we love that! This is unironically a good adaptation of A Christmas Carol. It doesn’t beat the Muppets, but there are many worse adaptations that get way more praise. Eden Starling is a fantastic Barbie-fied Scrooge, and I love Morwenna Banks.

9: Star Light Adventure. I love Star Wars, I love Star Trek, I love big dumb himbos whose entire motivation in life is Eat Food, Drive Fast, Drink Respect Women Juice. Sometimes Barbie movies should be ranked by their Ken, and Prince Leo is just great. Also, a unique sci-fi plot that could only come from a Barbie movie.

8: Spy Squad. Listen, sometimes I just like dumb, fun movies. This is a stellar spy movie with a fun premise, quirky characters, a spy HQ in the H of the Hollywood sign, and the baddie is just their rival in a wig. Its cute, its colourful, they give Barbie a knock-off lightsaber. No complaints.

7: Big City, Big Dreams. We’re finally back to a good, queer-leaning Barbie movie! I love Malibu and Brookln’s dynamic, I think they’re so cute platonically or romantically, and I had fun with Mermaid Magic and Epic Road Trip too. I don’t love the tragic miscommunication moment, but I guess they had to add conflict in the last ten minutes. I love the songs and their final performance enough that all is forgiven.

6: Video Game Hero. I just think its fun, ok? This is the “there’s more than one way to ___” thing that Pink Shoes tried (and I still love, just not enough to Top Ten it) but went the wrong way about in my opinion. Video Game Hero is not a groundbreaking political commentary, or a classic musical, but it just has a special place in my heart.

5: Three Musketeers. I genuinely do not care for any other version of Three Musketeers. No one will ever beat Barbie. I love the secret society of swordfighters, I love that Prince Louis changes his tune by the power of… well, the Power of Four forevermore, I guess. I love that every version of Three Musketeers features precisely 0 muskets, and the Barbie version took that new heights with one of them fully just having ribbons.

4: The Fairytopia Trilogy. I think they get better and better with each iteration. I love the story of a wingless fairy getting wings, and then giving them up selflessly in 1 and 2, and I love that the ultimate message is that of kindness and courage. It’s also absolutely just me being blinded by childhood nostalgia, but Laverna is a top tier villain too.

3: Magic of Pegasus. I have a lot of positive thoughts about this one, but the main one is Aiden!! I think his story is quite unique and complex and he’s one of the strongest love interests of any of th Barbie movies. I also think this one is so pretty and purple, and Cloud Kingdom is glorious, and the quest plot is fantastic.

2: Princess and the Pauper. Now I know this one will not be controversial, except that it’s nt number one! Annaliese and Erika are both delightful, Julian and Dominic too, and even the characters lower on the roster are fun. Not to mention the best songs that make me want to do a full stage production.

1: Princess Charm School. This probably comes as no surprise if you’ve read my essay. I think that the socioeconomic implications are intense, I think that the murder plot is exciting, I think Hadley and Isla as Gardania Unsolved have to be among my favourite Friend Characters, and I think Blair is actually a great character too. I also love Delancey’s redemption, and how it comes from being faced with real-world consequences.

Barbie movie tier list, by me

So I was bored, and decided to search on tiermaker for barbie movies template And I found one

Explanation of the tiers (From my perspective :D)

Didn’t see it - Self explanatory, I haven’t seen these yet, and therefore don’t necessarily have a fully formed opinion yet. Who thought making this was a good idea - Bro, literally I couldn’t even get the entire way through video game hero I really tried But the side characters really didn’t do it for me, and made it quite unwatchable for me.

Failure to deliver ;( - The secret door never captured me. When I watched it in the theaters, it bored me. I didn’t find it entertaining, and therefore it failed to deliver for me. I’ll rewatch it some day, but for now, it just doesn’t stand high. Didn’t really like it - There are two movies in this list, and I just weren’t a fan of either of them. While I adore the original mariposa, the second just didn’t capture me. I didn’t find it compelling, like I have seen others do.  Along with that, we have, barbie in a princess adventure. I was considering putting it in “Could’ve been better.” But really, the only redeeming factor for this movie, was “King of the kingdom reprise” sung by  Angelo Restaino. That song is a guilty pleasure of mine, and it is just well sung. Could’ve been better - There are, a lot of movies to cover here. I think, in general, these movies could’ve been basic and delightful, but instead they just didn’t hit the spot for me. Diamond castle is a major top favorite among barbie fans, but it failed to capture me due to the constant songs every 3 minutes. There never was a chance to take a breath when it came to the songs. I am well aware that it is on purpose a musical, but it was just a bit much. Though it is a good movie objectively, it is therefore I put it in could’ve been better. Some of the others are just, they could’ve been great, but their tone doesn’t follow along well enough, or they just miss the mark. Like the pink shoes. It just missed the mark for me. I remember watching it in theaters and it was nice, but not enough. Basic but delightful -  I don’t think it is necessary to go into too much detail here, especially with how many movies there are on this tier, but they just fill me with joy anytime I watch them. They are lovely basic movies, that are absolutely delightful. Some of these movies, I really wanted to put in a tier beteween that and Absolute favorite with just “Good” but that wasn’t an option. So here they are. These movies are lovely. An absolute favorite - These are just top tier movies. Fashion fairytale, an all time favorite, not superb, but absolute all time favorite. These are movies that just hit the spot. They are well written. Great message. Lovely visuals. Love them all <33 Fairytopia, Magic of the rainbow, is the fairytopia movie I remember the most from my childhood, and I adore it. Do I have critisism? Yes. Is it still an all time favorite. Hell yeah! Magic of the pegasus, has the BEST enemies to lovers ever written.  Mermaid tale, absolutely GREAT storyline. These are all beyond lovely. Superb in every way - And at last, this tier. Mariposa is beyond an all time favorite, it is THE barbie movie for me. The way everything was build up is GREAT. The trials, the stars, the message. It was extremely meaningful to me as a child, and I remember playing the Mariposa game as a kid, and having so much fun with it.  The same goes for 12 dancing princesses. Everything about this story amazed me as a kid. It will never be below superb for me.  Starlight adventure is more recent, but shit man, did it hit the mark. It hit the mark so well. World building wise and character wise. Great cast of characters, great dynamics, lovely friendships, lovely ending. Everything about it is superb. And at last The movie I probably should have put in basic but delightful, but the bloopers are too good. Barbie diaries. I remember watching it as a kid, and the scenes that stuck with me were the “Anxiety scenes.” as I would call them.  Bro The bloopers Are too great to not be in superb. Since quite a lot has happened with the characters since my first tierlist, I've decided to remake it! The old one is the third shown, for reference. The tiers are slightly different, and I'll also be explaining some of my choices below the cut!

'Superior in my Fanon'

> i feel like i don't need to say that in my version of hb the dynamics between I.M.P. would be very different. still found family, just a better depiction of it.

> best way to fix Mayberry is to NOT have her end up with the woman she tried to kill both in real life AND after death imo. or at the least, flesh her personality out some more before doing so.

> in my version of hb Paimon isn't different in terms of personality. he's just around more in the current timeline and has more definitive interactions with Stolas.

> i don't remember the name of the guy from the blitzø hate party episode, but while he serves as a good show of stolas' flaws and weaknesses, i'd have preferred if he stood as more of a positive comparison to blitzø, highlighting the latter's flaws. this would include a little more screen time and a show of what exactly led to im and stolas dancing and kissing.

'Win(ners)'

> I do NOT support Crimson's actions. However, he is one of the few solid villains we have left in Helluva Boss (and also I have a thing for villains).

> a lot of people take issue with Sallie Mae for reasons to her gender and how it's portrayed in merch + 'not portrayed sufficiently' in the show but I can't think of a single thing that's wrong with her and how she's written.

'Love'

> y'all are hating on Envy for NOTHING 😭😭😭 i mean hating the design is valid but why are we surprised that it isn't accurate to the sources viv based it on?? this isn't new? and at least Envy isn't an eyesore like some others... but i'm maybe people want more of that?? idk, i feel like they're overhated. i love their design, that's about the only reason they're ranked so high.

'Like'

> yes, i do like Stolas!! he's done a lot of things i don't like but it's part of his development. plus, realizing that he actually gets a lot of lasting consequences in canon (regardless of whether he ignores them or not) made me ease up on him. plus he's a crybaby twink. how could i not like a crybaby twink.

> a lot of the characters in this category are either here for their design or their defining moment. Chaz is a bit of a special case, and so is the hellhound adoption center lady. we're sleeping on Barbie Wire's rehab nurse, she did her job GOOD.

'Idrc'

> not much to say here. every character listed in this tier has failed to captivate my interest and for that, i simply don't think of them. a big point i thought of was "who are they without their defining drama?" and for most of them the answer was "little to nothing".

> there's a few random side characters in this tier. they are only present becuse they're side characters that i figured people would remember, and i wanted to state my opinion on them.

'I don't like them'

> all these characters are here because i either dislike the limited appearance they had, dislike their personality, or have extenuating beef.

> there's so much i dislike about Asmodeus- pretty much the same things i dislike about Beelzebub, but i decided to spare him from the very bottom of the list because he is one of the more actively kinder characters in the show.

My friend who loves cats couldn't even stand Miette. I could nor convince her that the rest of the movie was okay because she'd counter everything with "But MIETTE!" and that argument was enough that I almost bumped the movie's rating down on my tierlist, too.

I mean, it's not like Percy is great (I literally do not remember anything about him besides that he's British), but Miette is probably one of the worst Barbie animals in my opinion.
