So about a month ago, I got a PS4 from Goodwill bc I was emboldened by jailbreaking a PS3 and thought it would be that easy. It was cheap because the disc drive was broken. Accidentally came with a free copy of Destiny that way. But it wasn't the disc drive itself that was broken. That would be too easy. Instead it was either one of two chips on the motherboard, one of which is irreplaceable. Awesome. Great.
So I get another used PS4 that's for parts/repair. And the problem with this one is that it "won't power on." Okay, cool, that's prooooobably the power supply. And it just so happens I now have a donor. Except I get it home, plug it up, and power is getting to it because it beeps when I press the eject button. It's just that the power button is stuck. Somehow.
So I take this one apart to see what the hell is going on this time. Friends. Gamers. Countrymen. There was no power button. The little switch that the outer button presses? It was gone. Missing in action.
So I do some Googling and find out you can turn the console on by pressing the PS button on the controller. Ressemble, putting PS4 2's motherboard in PS4 1 because the first one was cleaner and y'know, maybe the power supply is bad. But put in PS4 2's disc drive just in case a ribbon cable is actually to blame and not a chip (but it's definitely a chip). And... It didn't work. Maybe because it was never paired with it? It WAS plugged into the console, but the Playstation was totally unresponsive. So I keep Googling and something says that a PS4 will turn on if you give it a disc. So I LUNGE across the room and stick that copy of Destiny in and sure enough it powers on! And you know that footage of the people at NASA losing their shit cheering? That was me.
So, yeah. I checked that it was low enough firmware and then factory reset this thing and now all I've got to do is update it to the right firmware (I don't think the one it's on supports GoldHen and I don't have the patience to learn how to do any other exploit).
But that's for the morning. For now I can sleep peacefully knowing my console repair saga is over (at least for now) and my chimera console is working. And hey, now the controller actually WILL power it on. Small miracles.

Oh sunk-cost fallacy, we're really in it now. We are in fact so really in it that if we quit now then everything we did would have all been for nothing and so we have to keep going in

homeschooling in the US needs to be regulated but this is one of those conversations that immediately gets crushed by extremist conservatives and even well-meaning liberals will pipe up to be like "well some homeschooling is good!" when that's absolutely not relevant. regulation will not change anything for the homeschooling families who are serious about their children's education. the people who need to be regulated are the fringe extremists

this is definitely NOT the moon girl episode with a trans character that disney shelved and has no plans on airing and i am definitely NOT advising you to spread it around like wildfire in retaliation to this stupid-ass chickenshit coward decision. i repeat, i am DEFINITELY not encouraging you to spread this episode around like crazy to show disney that trans people will not bow down to the whims of the people that want them dead. definitely DON'T do that. definitely

While the Onion buying InfoWars is indeed extremely funny, very few of the posts I've seen commenting on the sale have mentioned that the families of the Sandy Hook victims apparently agreed to voluntarily reduce their lawsuit payout as part of a deal to ensure that the Onion would acquire InfoWars wholesale, rather than having the company broken up and auctioned off piecemeal, as the latter course could potentially have allowed some of those pieces to end up back in the hands of Alex Jones' cronies.
Like, yes, it is in fact very funny that InfoWars is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the Onion, but the real props go out to the Sandy Hook families who saw the opportunity and willingly gave up the additional millions of dollars that could have been realised by stripping InfoWars for parts in order to make that happen.
(EDIT: Fixed a sentence incorrectly suggesting that Clickhole is still affiliated with the Onion – it totally slipped my mind that they'd sold it back in 2020.)

Hey, the ACLU is getting people to send letters to your Reps to have Congress pass the No Kings Act.
This act would make constitutional amendments to ensure that even sitting presidents are held liable for their actions. That NOBODY is above the law.
Their goal is 150k messages sent and at the time of writing this they're about 2.1k off from that goal!
ACLU gives you a prefilled message that you can edit to send to make the process easier, and will send it out for you.
This only takes a few minutes!
