#TGIFridays #TGIFridaysBakedOnionRingsCornRingsCornSnacks #OnionRingShapedCornSnackChips #SnackReview
I tried the TGI Fridays Baked Onion Rings Corn Snacks Chips and these were pretty good.
These were crunchy and salty but not overly salty to me. It had some spices on these chips that were pretty good.
Got at Ollies. I tried these chips before I had this blog but I forgot how these tasted and wanted to see if these are still good. These chips were still good and i'm surprised these were still good.
I would eat these again.

Heya folks! Its been a bit, food insecurity is a bitch, but today on the quest of cooking our way through Lord of the Rings we're gonna be making a dish exclusively mentioned in the 2007 MMO-
We will be making a Rohan Pasty!
(As always you can find the cooking instructions and full ingredient list under the break-)
MY NAMES CROSS NOW LETS COOK LIKE ANIMALS
SO, “what goes into a Rohans Pasty?” YOU MIGHT ASKBasics. Meat n potatoes of your meat-in-dough food. .
All-purpose flour
Salt
Baking powder
Vegetable oil
Olive oil
Ground beef
Garlic salt
Ground cumin
Chili powder
Dried oregano
Waxy potato
Garlic
White onion
Egg
"A delicious local pastry filled with beef and potatoes."- LOTRO Rohan is a kingdom of humans in middle-earth, and the description point towards a cornish pasty (yes, pasty not pastry). Oddly enough the image is more of an empanada but you win some you lose some. This heritage informs much of the shape and ingredients of this dish, however we're opting to cook most of the ingredients before adding them in, contrary to going in raw as a cornish pasty calls for. I chose to deviate here because cooking beforehand allows more seasoning to be crammed in. The english hate seasoning.
AND, “what does a Rohans Pasty taste like?” YOU MIGHT ASK
Tastes like the best pot pie youve had, less soggy
Excellent for an after-rugby/martial arts/soccer dinner
The potatoes are foundational
Despite needing the least work
Pasta salad (cucumber, olives, pepperocini) would pair well as a side
And would also pair well with beer
This meal bears the gold star sticker of not having any major issues! Hooray! Maybe its increased comfortability in the kitchen, or maybe its because of how very simple this one is. Chopped roasted bell pepper might be good in the filling in the future.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get the dough ready ahead of time- its mentioned in the recipe below but i also wanted to say a foreword here that it needs to sit in the fridge for a few hours. Just so ya dont get everything out and realise itd take too long for dinner tonight. Speaking of dough, i feel like it could have more flavor added to it. Its bland and although its not part of the tradition of the meal its based off of, cornish meat pasty, it might be nice to add some spices like cumin or black pepper to the flour.
The meal reheats perfect- wrap in papertowl and put it in the microwave for 30 seconds per pasty.
When picking your potatoes make sure theyre "new" potatoes (baby ones) or whichever potato with the least amount of starch you can get. Its important for it to cook inside the pasty that it not have too much lest it get Mushy Bad.
Another thing about its real-life inspo; Cornish pastys were workers food, stuff you could carry into the mines, stuff thatd reheat well. You could hold the crust with your dirty hands and throw it away once you ate the rest. I always feel partial to these foods. Although I'd still eat the dirty crust.
This recipe earns a solid 8/10 (with 1 being food that makes one physically sick and 10 being food that gives one a lust for life again.)
🐁 ORIGINAL RESIPPY TEXT BELOW 🐁
Dough Ingredients:
370g all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
74g vegetable oil
240g warm water
Filling Ingredients:
2 tablespoons(ish) olive oil
1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoons tomato paste
Garlic salt to taste
Ground cumin to taste
Chili powder to taste
Dried oregano to taste
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 white onion, diced
Method:
Combine flour, salt and baking powder.
Add oil and water into mixer with dough hook running at medium speed. Mix for 1 minute, stopping several times to scrape the sides of the bowl.
When mixture comes together and begins to form a ball, decrease mixing speed to low. Continue to mix just until dough is smooth.
Take the dough ball, safely wrap it, and transfer to fridge. Let sit for at minimum 2 hours.
For the meat, get a large skillet, and add some olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and garlic salt, cook until the beef is cooked completely.
Drain the beef and set aside.
In the same pan, add the garlic, onions, cumin, chili powder, oregano, and salt.
Cook until the onions are softened but not brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Re-add the beef and cook over low heat for about 5 more minutes.
Back to the dough, transfer dough from fridge to well-floured work surface. Roll into log and divide into 10 equal portions.
Preheat oven to 350f.
Form each piece into a ball and flatten each with a rolling pin.
Add a layer of diced potatos down the middle of the pastys. Add the meat filling to each. Fold the sides of the dough up to seal on top in the middle.
Gently turn the pasty on its side and crimp the edge, alternating a braid pattern. Use knife to cut an "X" shaped slit in the top. Repeat for each pasty.
Place the pastys on a greased baking sheet. Lightly coat each pasty with an eggwash using a basting brush.
Cook for about 50 minutes, or until golden brown, and let cool!

Flammkuchen / Tarte Flambeé / "German pizza"
Tumblr media
This evening I found a slab of Speck (strong-smoked bacon) in the freezer that I didn't know we had, there was half an onion and a tub of Lithuanian sour cream in the fridge, so @dduane decided to try Flammkuchen.
Originally, so the story goes, it was made by bakers as a pre-thermometer way to check the temperature of their wood-fired ovens (and provide a quick snack at the same time).
Tarte flambée is the French name, but "German Pizza" or indeed any sort of pizza it certainly isn't; there's neither tomato sauce nor cheese, and no yeast in the dough.
Whether it's German or French depends on who you ask, since it originates from the province of Alsace, an area which has changed hands a lot in the past couple of centuries and whose ownership has been A Source Of Friction Between Guess Who for almost as long.
To stay neutral, the recipe DD used is Swiss. ;->
Here's the translation:
*****
Alsatian tarte flambée
This delicious speciality from Alsace is also ideal for an aperitif. Thinly rolled bread dough with sour cream, onions and bacon cubes!
350g flour (12½ oz) 1.25 tsp salt 2 dl water (6.7 US fl oz / .42 US pt) 2 tbsp olive oil 200 g crème fraîche / sour cream (7 oz) 2 onions (we had less, so used less...) 120 g farmer's (thick, well-smoked) bacon in slices (4¼ oz) a small grind of pepper
And this is how it's done:
Mix flour and salt in a bowl. Pour in water and oil, mix and knead into a soft, smooth dough. Form the dough into a ball, cover and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 240 degrees (464 F). Halve the dough and roll it out into an oval shape about 3 mm thick (1/10 inch) on a lightly floured surface. Place the dough on two baking sheets lined with baking paper.
Spread the crème fraîche / sour cream over the dough, leaving a border of approx. 1 cm (½ inch) free all around. Peel the onions, cut them into fine rings, cut the bacon into strips, spread both over the crème fraîche / sour cream and season.
Baking per tray: approx. 12 minutes each on the bottom shelf of the oven.
*****
Since this was our first time making Flammkuchen, we baked them one at a time to check for errors. There were none (Swiss recipe!) and 12 minutes was exactly right to produce this result both times:
Tumblr media
DD needs to be careful because of IBS so they were made with mostly bacon on one side, mostly onion on the other, and with a glass of cool white wine they made an excellent Sunday supper.
Next time, now we know how well this recipe works, we'll be more generous with the toppings. :->
Incidentally, rather than baking-trays or the pizza stone we need to replace (ceramic utensils, tile floors and gravity Do Not Mix Well) we used the cast-iron griddle which in summer often goes on the BBQ...
Tumblr media
... and gave the oven a thorough pre-heating, then transferred the Flammkuchen in and out with a peel, all of which worked splendidly.
That tip about using baking paper is excellent, BTW: no sticking, no spillage, no washing up. I bet it'll work with other things as well.
Like, for instance, more Flammkuchen... ;->

SLOVENIAN CUISINE: EXPLAINED
Extremely confused by Joker Out’s recent post? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!
Tumblr media
KRANJSKA KLOBASA:
Tumblr media
Carniolan sausage is one of the most recognisable Slovenian culinary products. Since January 2015 it has been protected with geographical indication by the European Union. It originates from the historical region of Kranjska, once the Duchy of Carniola, a crown land of the Austrian Empire. The sausage is a reddish brown colour on the surface and bears a faint scent of smoke. Each pair is held together with a wooden skewer.
Preparation: It contains at least 75 to 80% pork (aside from bacon) and at most, 20% bacon. It may contain up to 5% water, sea salt from the Sečovlje salt pans, a little garlic, saltpetre and black pepper. No other ingredients are permitted. It has to be cooked before consumption. It is usually eaten hot, together with sour or cooked cabbage or sour turnip.
Perfect for: folk village parties called ‘veselice’, where they are a common choice alongside wine or beer. For that occasion, bread, mustard, and sliced onion are mandatory accompaniments.
IDRIJSKI ŽLIKROFI:
Tumblr media
Žlikrofi is a traditional Slovenian dish, originating from Idrija a small town in the east of Slovenia. Idrija is mostly known for its lace and now-closed mercury mines. Žlikrofi were the first Slovenian dish registered as a Traditional speciality guaranteed (TSG).
Preparation: Žlikrofi are made using pasta, filled with a mixture of potatoes, onion, pig lard, chives and other spices. They are best served with ‘bakalca’ (a sauce made out of lamb and vegetables).
Perfect for: Žlikrofi are eaten all year round and can be served either as a starter, side dish or a main course. Alongside restaurants in Idrija, tourists can also try them at the Idrija Lace Festival or at the Idrija Žlikrofi Festival, where žlikrofi are prepared in more than 35 different ways. The žlikrofi festival is held at the end of August, this year it is taking place on the 24th of August.
POTICA:
Tumblr media
Potica (a Slovenian nut roll) is the number one traditional holiday pastry in Slovenia. It has been registered as a Traditional speciality guaranteed (TSG) in the European Union since April 2021.
Preparation: It consists of a rolled pastry made from sweet yeast dough, most commonly filled with walnuts, but there are variations with hazelnuts, tarragon, poppy, cottage cheese and others. Its ingredients are quite basic, but achieving the right balance of filling and dough is challenging. Traditionally it is ring-shaped, baked always in the special shaped potica baking mould (ceramic, glass or tin one), called ‘potičnik’, which has a conical protrusion in the middle.
Perfect for: All holidays, especially Christmas and Easter. Slovenian housekeepers are happy to bake it even outside the holiday season to pamper their loved ones.
PREKMURKSA GIBANICA:
Tumblr media
Prekmurje layer cake (literal translation: Over-Mura moving cake 😂) is a special cake originating in eastern region of Slovenia, Prekmurje. The name ‘gibanica’ comes from the dialect expression güba and refers to a fold. Since March 2010, prekmurska gibanica is protected in the EU as a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed.
Fun fact: If you are visiting Prekmurje, you can swing by The House of Gibanica, where you can enjoy the full gibanica experience which includes tasting handmade gibanica, made in the traditional way using a protected recipe.
Preparation: The preparation of this layered cake is quite complex and expensive, which is why it is only served on special occasions. Each layer is topped with plenty of sweet cream, eggs and butter. The dessert requires crumbly and rolled dough and four types of filling, made up of cottage cheese, poppy seeds, walnuts and apples.
Perfect for: special occasions like Christmas and Easter. As it is very filling, it’s not ideal to eat (or prepare) in hot weather.
BOGRAČ
Tumblr media
Bograč is a hearty dish, consisting of many meats. It is typical of the Prekmurje region. It is a festive dish, as it is never cooked for just one person. It is best when cooked in a kettle over an open fire. In Hungarian this kettle is called 'bogrács' , hence the name of the dish.
Preparation: Sweat onions in lard, then add a different type of meat to the dish at the end of each hour of simmering: first the beef, then the venison, and finally the pork. Season with paprika and add a splash of white wine. Finally, add the potatoes and cook until they are done.
Perfect for: large family gatherings.
Fun fact: Every year, Lendava* organises the international 'bograč' cooking competition called ‘Bogračfest.’ The municipality of Lendava also holds the Guinness World Record for the largest bograč ever prepared (1,801 kg) since 2021.
* A Slovenian town near the Hungarian border.

Could you do a Miguel story where he proposes to Y/n(female reader)and she doesn’t even realize it because she was daydreaming about food? Its fluff.
Yeah, me and this reader have a lot in common with food ❤️.
-----------
Fluff under the cut ~
Your senses tingled with the so many aromas that filled the room. Fresh bread, stews, sweet baked fresh goods, your mouth almost salivated. Damned be Pavlov, cause every time you heard a ding, your head turned to the dispatching window to see if it was your order. And there it was Miguel.
"I don't know how... this turned into what my current feelings are-"
Another ding, your eyes casted to the dispatching window. To say you were hungry was an understatement, you went to a mission with Miguel, almost get killed, but walked it off, thanks to Miguel.
You went straight for the cafeteria to try the new spicy chicken empanadas. To your surprise they had ran out quite quickly. And then Miguel had asked you to follow him, that there was something he needed to discuss with you.
"And I think it's time for me to come clean and say that... you're quite reliable and always give your best-"
A new aroma was added to the list. Chocolate. Freshly baked chocolate croissants and other choux pastries that steamed up away in the cooling racks. You licked your lips, your eyes settled in Miguel once more
"You're one of the oldest members in the Spider Society, and it's always..." he cleared up his throat as he put both his hands on the table, he wasn't one for stutter, much less to be nervous, but considering that he was about to choose a new partner for life, he had all the right to do so.
Why your food was taking so long, was a mystery. But damn, that french onion soup from the other table looked fantastic. You had wanted to surprise Miguel with some of his favorite food, and were kinda been bugging LYLA about it. Even asking her for the recipes to try at home.
He was always saving your ass when things were too overwhelming in the battlefield. He was reliable. Or so he had been saying. One thing you found cute is that sometimes he spoke too much about himself, as giving and living the example. But you knew better. With a lot of patience on both ends, he had let you in, get closer and of course, things just kept growing from there.
"So I would like to know... if you'd like to marry me?"
Another ding and your eyes shined with joy upon watching the food coming your way from the dispatching window.
"Oh my god, yes!"
Miguel blinked for a moment and sighed, releasing the breath he didn't know he had trapped in for so long.
"That's... Good to hear." He took your hand and placed the ring quite fast and he cleared up his throat. You looked up at him, and then at his hand holding yours, with a ring on your finger.
Your stomach growled and now it was your time to blink.
"W-What's that?"
The food was placed on your table, as your order of spaghetti with meatballs was brought.
"You just... agreed to marry me, (Name)" His brows furrowed in confusion and mild annoyance.
"Oh..."
"But I guess-"
"No" You withdrew your hand to hide it. and smiled.
"For you to give it someone else? Nope. You're mine. You kidding me?" You pouted before giving a bite to the meatball.
Miguel just stared at you with confused, yet loving eyes.

[23:39 pm]
Rolling up into the driveway of your home, Kita smiles, sleepily, as he sees the tv flickering in the window leading into the living room.
He’s told you time and time again that the blinds should be drawn closed for worry of people watching through the windows- you said you’ll be damned before you become ‘that house.’
Call him paranoid, but he’s seen those horror movies with Osamu; it’s been a blessing and a curse.
With a small grunt from his sore back, Shinsuke slowly slips out of his truck and grabs his filled lunch bag in the passenger seat. He doesn’t want to eat after he’s been baking in the sun, but a hearty breakfast and a few protein shakes have been fine with keeping him around.
Although, up until this point, he hasn’t had you to corner him and scold him about it.
Maybe that’s why you’re still awake. Crap.
He fiddles with his engagement ring before he unlocks the door to your home- thank god you at least remembered to lock that- before entering in as quiet as possible in an attempt to not wake you if you were asleep.
To his not-so surprise, you are not asleep, and instead wide awake watching someone on YouTube while scrolling through your phone on tiktok. He tells you all the time that’s bad for your eyes. You do not care.
There’s a face mask smeared on your face and you just look so cozy that he wishes he could’ve been home sooner to curl up with you.
“I’m home,” he says, setting his bag on the hook before coming into the living room to see you. You look up at him from over the couch, chewing the last bit of whatever you were eating before grinning up at him. “What’re you still doing up?”
You offer him a shrug, “wanted to make sure you didn’t eat alone.” You nudge your head to the fridge, “and I know you haven’t been eating when you’ve been coming home, so I really wanted to make sure you had something.”
“I eat plenty when I get home,” he says, chuckling.
“And I think you’re full of it- go shower and I’ll finish off my snack and make you some food.”
“Mm?” He hums, leaning his weight on the armrest to kiss your head. “And what are you eating now?”
“Chips dipped in ice cream,” you mumble around a bite.
“…chips dipped in ice cream?”
“Yeah,” you hum, looking up at him. “I wanted something a little salty, but I knew it would make me want something sweet afterwards, so I figured I’d mix the two.”
“God, I adore you, but that’s feral.”
“And you are scared of innovation.” Despite your tease, you load up a ruffled chip with chocolate ice cream, passing it to him with a sweet smile. “Try it.” He eyes it suspiciously, and you scoff. “You don’t get to judge me on something you’ve never tried, Shinsuke.”
“Have you yet to read Hamlet?”
“Don’t you get me on my own hypocrisy,” you scoff. “Do you want the chip or not?”
He stands up and makes a sour face, but despite this, he extends his hand to take the chip from your fingers. He grimaced before hesitantly plopping the snack on his tongue when you bat your eyelashes at him.
One chew.
So far, so decent.
Two chew.
Okay. Now it’s funky.
Third chew has his jaw slacking in horror while from the couch, you start cackling.
“It tastes like bile,” he grimaces, his face scrunching up while you snort.
“That might be the sour cream part of the sour cream and onion.”
“This is foul,” he gags, quickly making his way to the sink to, quite literally, wash his mouth out. He hears you snickering off into the distance, and even if you have the taste of a sociopath, there’s not another thing he’d change about you.
Everything from your strange little cravings, to the way you stay up for him to reheat some dinner with him,
“What’s that thing called, when you like watching someone in pain and distress?” You ask over the running faucet, and he can practically hear the smirk of sadistic pleasure in your face.
He spits out some of the water pooled in his mouth with a retch, “oh, psychopath.”
You snort and he wipes his mouth on a paper towel, shaking his head before approaching you and capturing you in a kiss.
You pull away with a giggle before pecking him again, “you taste like chocolate ice cream.”
“And you taste like a questionable choice I made when I proposed.”
“And clay?”
He inspects your halfway dried face mask and licks his lips, “yeah. And clay.”

Jack-O'-Lantern Potage and Sautéed Dryad Buds with Cheese (Kabocha Pumpkin Potage, and Sautéed Chinese Cabbage with Mushroom and Cheese)
Tumblr media
ID: a photo with some dishes of food – from bottom to top: 1) a plate of sautéed chinese cabbage with mushroom and cheese sauce 2) a bowl of kabocha pumpkin soup 3) a pot of kabocha pumpkin soup. there is a sticky note on the pot with a face drawn to resemble the "Jack-O'-Lantern" bowl, pictured in the screenshot below
Tumblr media
ID: a screenshot of the Dungeon Meshi anime, depicting "Jack-O'-Lantern Potage and Sautéed Dryad Buds with Cheese" the "Jack-O'-Lantern Potage" resembles pumpkin soup, served in 3 bowls and a pumpkin-like fruit with a face. the "Sautéed Dryad Buds with Cheese" is a ringed green vegetable covered in cheese sauce

my first recreated dungeon meshi meal!
i had been planning on making kabocha pumpkin soup/potage for a while. after watching the newest dungeon meshi episode where they made "Jack-O'-Lantern Potage and Sautéed Dryad Buds with Cheese", i decided to recreate the full meal with the ingredients i had!
it turned out really good, definite recommend
if anyone is interested, i wrote up additional info about my process under the cut:
"kabocha" is the english term for the main kind of pumpkin common in east/southeast asia. it has a richer flavor and texture than orange pumpkins in the west, which makes it great for soups and stir-fries.
for my soup, i combined the kabocha with carrot and potato. the additional vegetables add nutritional value, and help "bulk up" the portion size.
Tumblr media
ID: a photo of 2 kabocha pumpkins. one is sliced open hotdog-style, the other is intact [link to image source]
despite the smaller portion size, adapting the "Sautéed Dryad Buds with Cheese" was the bigger challenge for me – i was already familiar with making kabocha soup, so that was simple
i decided to use some leftover chinese cabbage for the dryad buds because of the similar appearance. i assume it was meant to be analogous to onion, but i'm allergic
Tumblr media
ID: screenshot of some Dungeon Meshi manga panels, featuring Senshi preparing and cooking the dryad buds. when Senshi cuts open the dryad bud, he notes "mmm, this has a nice aroma"
when i tried searching for "cheese cabbage recipe" all the results were for oven-baked dishes. i debated baking the cabbages, but when i tried to cut them into rings, the cabbage didn't really hold shape, so i decided to just sauté them to save time
i thought about just throwing some shredded cheese into the pan when sautéing, but decided to make a cheese sauce for more accuracy
i made bechamel sauce (a french sauce base, made from melted butter, flour, and milk), and added cheese to make a cheese sauce. then i stir-fried the cabbage and mushrooms in butter and olive oil, seasoned with salt, pepper, paprika, and a bit of light soy sauce. i added the cheese sauce afterwards. it turned out surprisingly well!

if youve made it to here, thank you for reading! idk if ill recreate more dungeon meshi dishes in the future (i just happened to have all the ingredients for this one already, so it was convenient) but we'll see

Two Face: Jailbreak! I'm in!
Joker: I'll dress up and distract the guard!
Harley Quinn: Ooh, I'll bake some food to help distract ALL the guards!
Scarecrow: I guess I could bring my fear toxin in case-
Lex Luthor: No! Catwoman wasn't arrested! She’s undercover, taking the system down from the inside. She doesn’t need our help!
*****
Riddler: *Locks Scarecrow in the car.* Act like a child, get treated like a child.
Scarecrow: What? Isn't it illegal to leave a child locked in a car?
*****
March Harriet: Do you want some tea?
Mad Hatter: What are the options?
March Harriet: Yes or no.
*****
Joker: If I were a drink, I'd be Cherry Vanilla Coke. If you were a drink, what would you be?
Two Face: Bleach.
Harvey Dent: Sewage.
Joker: ...Please calm down, edgelords.

Batman: You can't wake up if you never got to sleep.
*****
Joker: Don’t be sad!
Two Face: Why not?
Joker:
Joker: I don’t have a good answer.

Riddler: Yes he does.
Mad Hatter: Yes he does.
Bane: Yes I do.
*****
Alfred, to Batman: *charging gun* Go to Bed. This is no longer a request, this is now a Threat.

Lex Luthor: No! Plus it’s nighttime, candy stores are closed.
Joker, happily: We’re gonna ROB a candy store!!!
Lex Luthor, sighing: No-
*****
Mad Hatter: How are you going to carve a gigantic pumpkin?
Scarecrow: The same way I make onion rings!
Scarecrow: *grabs a chainsaw*
