Found this amazing plastic TGIFriday's 'glass' at an antique barn. Everyone agreed it was hideous. So of course I grabbed it. Spotted in southeast PA.

So, I was browsing DoorDash for dinner and saw this place "Wow Bao." I'd come across it before, and really anything with "Bao" in the name grabs me, so I finally decided to try it. It DID seem unusual in that there were only two entree options and an overall limited menu. But I liked one of the options and the baos/appetizers seemed good, so I gave it a shot.
Because of the weirdness I decided to google it and see where it actually was in my area. None came up nearby so I googled the name in general and...
It's a TGI Friday's "virtual brand." I ordered from freaking TGI Friday's without even knowing it. (Note, the DoorDash page didn't even label it as a "virtual brand" like other places do.) I didn't cancel my order, and everything was more or less edible. But it wasn't the local Asian place I had been eager to try.
I don't like TGI Friday's. The funny thing is, it's been years since I've had their food so I thought okay, maybe it really wasn't AS processed as I remember. This incident only reminded me that yes, it IS that processed, so I will continue to avoid them. I'm sure many other unwilling customers will have the same exact experience. If chains operate thinking "who cares if people are pissed off, that's one customer we wouldn't have gotten otherwise"...then that's a shitty businesses practice and more reason to avoid those chains.
Note, it's not just TGI Friday's. This also happened before, where my cousin ordered from a "new sandwich shop" only to find out it was iHop (which I don't hate nearly as much as TGI Friday's). This time it just pissed me off.

I thought I had lost this article, as the original on Gawker is gone, but here it is in all it's glory: "My 14-Hour Search for the End of TGI Friday's Endless Appetizers" by Caity Weaver
