been watching that video someone sent in before while eating dinner (the "hazbin hotel sucks and that makes me sad video") and i honest to god have no complaints about it so far, aside from the begining disclaimer.
like im sorry, but its so fucking infuriating to hear SO many reviews say, "i wont talk about the drama outside the show," followed by, 9 times out of 10, a section completely dedicated to angel dust and how badly the execution of his story was butchered. "this feels written by the perspective of someone who thinks it's cool to be gay and abused," "angels suffering feels prolonged", etc.
like, yeah, i dunno man. couldnt possibly understand why they fucked that part of the story up so bad. why dont you ask the guy that storyboarded posion, has drawn angel being horribly raped and hypnotized, influenced the actual masquerade episodes dialogue with his fucked up fan comic, changed his name to tony when he started doing sex work, and admitted to never going through any of the trauma angel has? why not ask viv, who lied about raph being sexually assaulted (or, was telling the truth, and used his recent assault as a way to shield herself from critique,) who infamously doesnt research her characters designs or backgrounds, and called her rapist character "bubbles coded" and "a stupid mean girl" on twitter?
i just have to wonder, why? if youve already had to put a disclaimer that you dont intend to harass anyone for your disagreeing opinions on this stupid ass show, then why not acknowledge whos fault it is for this happening? why protect them? why not, i dunno, let two 30 year olds be held accountable for using millions of dollars to make a completely unnecessary rape music video? its not like anyone else is going to. you might as well use your platform to say something different besides, "poison and masquerade is really uncomfortable and gross. i will not discuss why this is. i will instead discuss the content itself only and intelligently put into words why i feel this way," for the 50th time on youtube.
Gotta agree with you on this one. If anyone ever makes a video critiquing HH that pulls no punches, please link me to it.

Pairing(s); Daddy!Thor Odinson x Little!Reader
Summary; after not seeing thor for awhile you’re in a hurry and it results in somebody getting in trouble.
A/n; this is so close to my heart but I hope everyone enjoys it. Not proof read
“Really, sweetie you can’t see him yet!” Loki tried to explain while you ran down the hall towards the throne room. Choosing to ignore Loki and only focusing on the sound of Thor’s voice getting closer.
Thor had to go help his earth friends leaving you under the watchful eye of Loki and sif, Loki made the mistake of letting you overhear Sif say he was back. In response you took off towards where you knew he would be your socked feet running as fast as they could.
There was a reason you couldn’t see him,his earth friends came to visit but they had no clue you existed and thor just needed time to explain. The didn’t even believe he’d moved on from Jane but he had, long ago.
The pair of you met in a item shop in his village he saw you and just immediately felt something, his mom said it was true love.
“Darling!” Sif called after you as well to no avail. “Daddy daddy daddy” you repeated as you ran closer to the doors.
“So you just need to understand that I’ve hidden this for a-” Thor was in the middle of explaining when you burst inside “daddy! Daddy!!” You squealing running towards him. “Loki!” He yelled as Loki slid to a stop at the door.
You were already at Thor reaching up at him “daddy you hold?” You asked referring to you. “Of course, hi my little one” he said lifting you up you squealed hugging his neck. “Missed daddy” you said and his hand ran through your hair “I missed you too honey”
“Daddy?” Tony asked “honey?” Steve asked you only then realized the group of people stood infront of you both. Meanwhile all thor was doing was staring daggers at his brother and Sif. “She’s a fast little thing what was I meant to do!” Loki argued. “Use your powers?” Thor offered and Loki went to argue but got quiet. “Oh…yeah, forgot about those in the moment” Thor shook his head.
“Hello! Who is this?” Nat asked pulling the two men from their bickering “uhm” Thor looked between his friends and you. “Daddy? Wan down!” Thor complied and sat you down.
Thor immediately turn to his brother “are you crazy? What if they react badly!” Loki shrugged “I’m gonna actually kill you” Loki scoffed “I’d like to see you try” Thor picked Loki up by his collar “oh. Look at that” Loki said his feet dangling.
Thors attention was drawn away when he heard you squealing, he turned to see nat and Tony tickling you “ahhh! Dada! Help!!” You said between giggles. Thor sat Loki down and walked over “what is going on?”
“So, you have a girlfriend” Bucky said with a shrug “she’s cute, I’m gonna steal her” Tony said and you squealed “nooo!” You rand to hide behind thor “I’m only for daddy!” Thor smiled. He sat his hand on your head “yes you are” he agreed “so you guys aren’t weirded out?” He asked. “No, I’ve dated littles before” Tony said “so have I” nat said “and we are willing to learn” cap said pointing to him and Bucky.
Thor nodded “okay, thank you” he said and lifted you up “now, tell me all about your week baby”

Copy pasting Terry trivia and info here
Terrance is strict, fatherly, rigid and eloquent. Most of the people he’s ever been close to he ends up taking care of. He also feels compelled to teach his own way of living, wanting his loved ones to be better examples of People so they won’t reflect poorly on his own image. Past all of this strictness and judgement, Terry is a soft masochist, he’s witty, flamboyant, and a huge suck up, though this is part of his own manipulative nature, even if it’s being under someones boot, he’s sure he’s getting what he wants.
Devout christian, victim of conversion therapy. traditionalist.
Terrance Mathew's original name is Terrance Adams, he changed it when he moved away from his home town in his 30's. He is hiding from his past but he yearns for his ex friend to return to him and mess his life up again. He victimizes himself but he has enabled alot of that behavior just for entertainment. He's very inlove.
Terrance is a homosexual in deep denial about it, Because of this he attempted a marriage in his 20's when pressured by those around him. It was mostly to keep appearances.
before changing identities he made alot of money building robots that performed small tasks for people, post change he stopped just to disassociate from his former self. He doesn't really want people to recognize him for what he's done, but he wants to show off very badly deep down. Since he has gotten a implant in his brain to dull his powers his personality completely shifted, He is fearful he is now a scrawny man who could easily be hurt by just anyone, and he suffers severe ptsd from the past abuse he endured in general
His roommate bailey is someone he's drawn to because he reminds him of a safer version of the man he's in love with, he sometimes mixes the two up. He would never admit this though and insists he just wants to help the guy on his feet and enjoys the quiet that comes with his ability to block psi. He is very weak to Bailey's manipulation because of the connection to tony in his head. The longer he lives with him the more he sees him as his own individual self and he doesn't want to face how he feels about him. Terry and Bailey are codependent like Terry and tony were, Terry is just drawn to relationships where he is serving and being used.

man I’m gonna need you to continue the nothing of significance Drabble 😭😭
I feel I should apologize for how long it took me to get here given that I practically invited this request. *sheepish* I do drabble requests in order by default, just so I don’t have to think about them as much, and there were a few already in the queue at the time.
This is part four. Find parts one through three at these links:
Parts One and Two at AO3
Part Three on Tumblr (it’ll post to AO3 when I get caught up there)
-
Stephen sleeps a lot for the first week. When he wakes, Tony is nearly always at his side. His bedroom sprouts a new side table, and it’s quickly covered with tablets, phones, and gadgets that Stephen hesitates to identify when Tony Stark is involved. He tries to tell Tony that there’s no obligation, that he can go, but all Tony says is, “I’m not here out of obligation. I’m here because you don’t make sense. I’ll figure you out, you’ll see.”
Stephen doesn’t argue. He likes waking up and seeing Tony sprawled in the armchair he’s commandeered, tapping intently at one device or another. He’s going to enjoy it while it lasts.
Once he’s no longer sleeping twenty hours a day, Wong explains, privately, what he needs to do to help his soul heal.
At this point, Tony’s commitments have drawn him away from constant watch at Stephen’s bedside, but he’s still a daily visitor. The table full of gadgets remains. Today, Stephen must look as lost as he feels, because when Tony strides into the room—he doesn’t ever knock—he stops immediately and frowns. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Stephen says automatically. Tony just waits. “Healing my soul is going to be more… metaphysical than I thought.”
Tony’s eyebrows fly up. “Isn’t everything you wizards do metaphysical?”
“Maybe I should have said not metaphysical enough,” Stephen says wryly. “I thought there would be spells involved. Exercises. I don’t know, vision quests. Instead, apparently, I need to… do things that make me feel good?”
Tony looks as bewildered as Stephen feels. “Like what?”
Stephen groans. “Watch the sunset. Spend time with friends. Eat good food. I am literally quoting examples.”
Tony slowly sits on the edge of the bed. “And that’s difficult?”
Stephen drops his gaze and doesn’t answer.
“Well!” Tony says after a moment, and Stephen looks up to see him grinning. “You’re going to be glad I stuck around. You basically have a prescription for hedonism, and I am an expert.”
Stephen has to laugh. This is either going to go very, very well, or very, very badly.

Hello friends! I'm here on the last day of the Marvel Trumps Hate auction to once more flog my wares show you some of the things that I have on offer that you can win! First up, auction 1145, a 27,000 word journal written from the perspective of the Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes over the course of his first month free from HYDRA! If all goes well with this journal I'm considering writing a different one for next year, perhaps a war journal kept in the Smithsonian Library, a Wakanda journal, Steve's collection of letters from Bucky, or a journal written by Zemo or Rumlow (maybe spicy?) But in any case THIS YEAR the journal is Bucky's, and it's something I've wanted to work on for several years and only just made the time for ahead of this auction. It is BEAUTIFUL, and I say that modestly I swear; full of hand drawn illustrations and bespoke leaflets, postcards and newspaper articles. There are over 20 pen and ink drawings in total! A full version of the journal will be posted to AO3 with mouseover text of the other languages Bucky has written into the journal (Russian, French, German, Romanian), and there's a secret, Civil War era letter from Tony in the very front. I'm so excited to share more of this journal with you, and I can't wait for the winner to get it! P.S. postage costs are in the listing! Current bid is $150. https://www.marveltrumpshate.com/auction/1145-dogsled/
Auction number 2066 is for a full size painting. I really labeled this auction badly so let me expand on the things I'm offering here: - Up to three full size characters (or a group of say six people total if it's a really cool idea) - Acrylic 12"x10" or watercolor 11.5"x16.5" - Can be gen, teen, or nsfw - Original piece is mailed to you (postage costs in listing) - Digital piece will be uploaded as well! - I will also include at least one metallic or pearlescent paint to either watercolor or acrylic painting, since we're up over $250 so far. Here are some things I love to paint: artistic nudes, armor, elaborate costumes, couples, ladies and gents, het lesbian and gay ships, horses, dragons, attempted realism, total fantasy, Avengers as various animals/my little ponies, horror--idk if I haven't tried it yet I'll probably enjoy doing it so throw it my way, I'll try anything! So I guess what I'm really saying is: if you have an idea you want painted, or a couple you love, and you want it painted for you, I can do that! No need to be shy! Come check out my auction and put some awesome Marvel themed art on your wall! https://www.marveltrumpshate.com/auction/2066-dogsled/

A letter, decorated with glitter, hearts, and colourful scribbles akin to a mother's day card, slips into your inbox. The letter reads:
Dearest Ink,
Enjoy some idiots in love, sprinkled with a bit of fluff; just the way you like it.
Let the gift-giving contest begin. I will not back the fuck down. The game is on!
- The better half of the delulu duo xx
A badly-drawn picture of two smiling stickmen holding hands is drawn beside it in crayon. The rest of the letter reads a sloppily-written story:
Stephen hums as he feels the tickle of Tony's hair swarming into his neck, the feeling of Tony's breath softly blowing against the patch of skin on his collarbone. He tries not to squirm away as Tony nuzzles the crook of his neck.
"Mm, hey," he mumbles, voice thick with sleep. His mouth opens up in a yawn that ends with a contented sigh.
"Hi," Tony greets back. "Go back to sleep."
"Did you just come in?" Stephen mumbles, eyes still heavy with sleep. He attempts to open them, but only manages to do so in slits. Tony hums an affirmative answer.
"Had to go do something in the lab," he explains, "Go back to sleep."
Stephen's lips twist, downturned, and he asks with a slight slur in his voice, "What time 's it?"
Tony shifts up.
"It's..." He feels Tony's warmth leave him–presumably to check the time–and he almost pouts at the loss, before smiling as he feels Tony return into his embrace. "Just a little past 2."
Stephen lets out a sleepy grunt, something that sounded like a protest.
"C'mere," he says, tugging Tony under the blankets. Tony obliges, squirming down, and Stephen wraps his arms around the man's waist. He attaches his lips to Tony's neck, and they lay there in comfortable silence for a moment, only broken by the occasional rustle of sheets and their soft breathing.
Stephen can feel Tony's heartbeat beating rhythmically against his own in this position, and it feels like a reassurance. That Tony is here, Tony is safe, Tony is in his arms. He feels cold, calloused fingers cradle his own trembling ones gently, and he responds in kind, tangling their fingers together.
Stephen's never been quite a romantic, but something about the hour and the sleepy state he is in feels like a great excuse for him to be clingy.
"Sleep," Stephen mumbles into his neck. Tony huffs out a soft chuckle.
"That's what I'm doing, Houdini."
Stephen shakes his head, nuzzles closer into Tony's neck.
"No," he says flatly, "You're thinking. I can hear you thinking."
"Is that a wizard thing?" Tony says, and Stephen can sense the smirk even if he can't see it. "You're not reading my mind are you?"
Stephen just gives a whine of protest, not wanting to prolong their not-sleeping states.
"Sleep," he repeats, "With me."
Tony doesn't reply after that. It takes a moment, but he feels Tony gradually relax in his hold, and inevitably falls into slumber. He only lets himself sleep until he's sure that Tony is.

Helena Bonham Carter’s Harper’s Bazaar UK interview | February 2023
A WOMAN SCORNED Helena Bonham Carter tells Lydia Slater why her latest role, exploring the life of the 1970s soapstar Noele Gordon, feels like restorative justice Those of a certain vintage may remember the ponderous sequence of nine guitar notes that were the signal to cluster around the television for Crossroads. Set in a Midlands motel, the soap was much derided for its flimsy sets, implausible storylines and clunky dialogue; nevertheless, in the mid-Seventies, the series was attracting 15 million viewers, and battling Coronation Street for ratings supremacy. The unquestioned star of the show was Noele Gordon, known to the nation as Nolly, who played the matriarchal, auburn-haired motel owner Meg Richardson (later Mortimer). The role had been created with Gordon in mind, and she remained Crossroads’ most popular character from the show’s launch in 1964 until 1981, when she was suddenly sacked. Her defenestration, and the reasons behind it, are the premise on which Russell T Davies has based his new three-part series, Nolly. ‘One of my very first jobs in TV was a trial script for Crossroads, and I’ve wanted to write the story of behind the scenes on that show for 40 years,’ he said. ‘Russell has always been a real supporter of the underdog,’ says Helena Bonham Carter, who portrays Gordon, complete with coiffure and carefully modulated accent. ‘He thought Nolly was really badly treated, and I think he wanted to give her the send-off and the recognition she deserved.’ Bonham Carter was ‘very aware’ of the soap as a child. ‘It was part of the perma-wallpaper, and I knew all the characters.’ She was immediately drawn to the complexity of the woman in Davies’ screenplay. ‘Nolly was a highly complicated character and a mix of many things – and not an easy mix,’ she says. ‘But I love playing people who are complex.’ Gordon was a child stage star who came from a modest background. She trained at Rada and went on to work both behind and in front of the television camera, becoming Britain’s first female TV executive; she helped Ned Sherrin and Reg Watson launch ATV Midlands in 1956, and was the first woman to interview a British prime minister when Harold Macmillan appeared on her chat show. Steeped in the workings of daytime television, Gordon was unafraid to voice her opinions on how things should be done on Crossroads. ‘She was outspoken, she was herself, she was utterly authentic,’ says Bonham Carter. ‘I think, frankly, she terrified the people who ran the show. And she was punished for that. It’s not new, is it, that women aren’t allowed to have a strong voice?’ Certainly, the first episode presents the ‘Queen of the Midlands’ as a daunting figure, swanning to the studios in mink coat and Rolls-Royce, changing a new character’s accent from Brummie to RP (in the teeth of the producer’s protests), and then playing an on-screen practical joke on the same rookie performer, after she dared to cast doubt on Gordon’s assertions of the programme’s popularity. But the series also shows how Gordon was greatly loved and respected by (most of) the people she worked with – particularly the actor Tony Adams. He played the motel’s suave, moustachioed accountant, Adam Chance, and in reality not only rented a flat from Nolly but was her closest ally – for, having been jilted by her fiancé, she never married or had children. ‘The show gave her a real sense of identity, belonging and purpose,’ says Bonham Carter. ‘She said she had two lives, as Meg Mortimer and Noele Gordon. And whenever she went to a hotel or a restaurant, inevitably they would take her to inspect the kitchen… the line was very smudged.’ As a result, Gordon lost far more than just her job when Charles Denton, the incoming controller of programmes at ATV, informed her agent that ‘all good things must come to an end’, a decision that this series lays squarely at the door of misogyny and ageism. ‘I think Nolly is quite right when she says, “You wouldn’t have sacked me if I’d been a man”,’ says Bonham Carter. ‘Men are allowed to be difficult and dictatorial. It really feels like Greek tragedy – she’s cut off in her prime.’ Gordon refused to take the decision lying down and complained to the press, resulting in national headlines, and sackfuls of irate letters sent to ATV from her devoted fans, while the series shows how producers retaliated by declining to tell Gordon how she would be written out and going to the extent of staging her fake funeral. Bonham Carter herself has never joined a long-running franchise. ‘Even after just two seasons with The Crown, by the end, with the best will in the world, you’re beginning to get a bit automatic – and if you’re faintly bored, it’s time to move on.’ Fortunately, at 56, her own career is as busy and diverse as ever. ‘We might have less collagen, but we’re much more interesting when we’re over 50,’ she says, with a laugh. ‘Life makes you more interesting, you’ve got more depth, the map of the soul is so much bigger if you’ve survived.’ Sadly, Gordon did not. She died of cancer in 1985, just four years after her sacking, while Crossroads itself only limped on until 1988. This charming series, and Bonham Carter’s portrayal, are a worthy tribute to a national treasure, and an overdue acknowledgment of the unjust treatment meted out to her.

That scar on his lips. Jesus Tony wanted to kiss it so fucking badly. It would be so easy to do too. And he knew - he knew - if he did that's all it would take. They were both dancing that line of going too far and it would only take one of them to take the plunge over it and they'd end up in bed, telling each other they needed to stop while only going further faster and harder.
He put his thumb on it as he continued to hold him there, partially to cover it, and partially to feel the little indent under his skin. He wanted it to be his lips, but tonight, thumb would have to do. "Lucky me. I'm totally banking it. So no I told you so tonight. Tonight was good for me. So I'm taking that as my win."
In the dining room, he laughs as Clint points out that he was escalating the footsie. "I did consider going up higher, but I didn't want you to have to try and hide a raging boner from the others when you said goodbye. I'm thoughtful like that. You're welcome."
They tidy up together. The monopoly money goes back into the box, and the cards go back into the cupboard. Any leftovers get consolidated into a box and both it and the trash gets taken into the kitchen.
Tony turns and leans back against the kitchen bench and drags his teeth over his bottom lips. If there were lines drawn - THERE ARE NO LINES JUST BABY STEPS - what he was about to say would definitely cross them.
His eyes slide down Clint's body. He's not gotten to work out properly for over a month, and so he's starting to soften a little. He's still muscular, but his physique is beginning to resemble Tony's more than Steve's. Clint probably hates it. Not out of vanity, but because he needs to be fit. He needs those muscles to not just keep up, but to beat the supers he runs with. Still - he looks good. A little dancing around lines is probably fine for them.
"You need a cold shower too, huh?" he asked. "Be a shame to waste water."
THAT HAD FELT LIKE THE DAYS OF THE AVENGERS HE HAD MISSED. A bunch of avengers gathered around with each other, and the center of their focus not be solving some problem in the world or fighting some big bad guys. It had been fun, and this poker game served it's purpose of the risk with Clint tonight.
Flirting with Tony had definitely been a bold move, but Clint had never been good or particularly good at patience. He lets his shoulders slump down a little, lets his guard back down even if it really hadn't been up. Clint hates to admit that Tony's right, decides that Tony had won a I TOLD YOU SO.
Clint doesn't even see Tony turning on Clint, moving to crowd his personal space and it has him SMIRKING. The corner of his lips where his scar over, quirks upwards. ❝ MHHH ⸻ I like you so I'll let you BANK JUST THIS ONE ⸺ ❞ I like you, for playing his game at the time. I like you, if it wasn't clear; even when Clint and Tony were at odds. They were adult, could handle that and be complex people. ❝ Use it well. ❞ He says, feeling his breath catch and he knows how easy it would be tilt his head back, to angle his lips to meet Tony's.
THERE IT WAS, HE WAS ⸺ The possessive hand at the back of his neck, the Tony that raised his game of footsie. FLIRTING. Sobriety might be worth it, just for that. ❝ Baby steps, ha ⸺ awwww, baby. ❞ Clint drawls out his aww, only further proving the point that he was a tease.
WHENEVER, WHEREVER HE WAS STABLE IN A FEW MONTHS ⸻ THE PAY OFF TO THIS TENION BETTER BE WORTH IT.
Gonna need a cold shower. That sends a shiver up his spine, hopes that he MEANS IT. ❝ You're the one who brought his foot up to my thigh, if you had move just aa bit higher. ❞ He points out, and if Tony's needing a cold shower than he was too. Think he could convince him to conserve water and share?
That coy smile on Clint's lip softens, goes to a more neutral smile. Less flirty and more genuine as Tony expresses his own interest in doing things more like that. THAT HE DOESN'T DO IT ENOUGH. ❝ Yeah, you should try to do that more. ❞ That's not to exclude himself, because Clint missed that too. He should do that more too, if he can repair his friendships.
ARE YOU GOING TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP TONIGHT? ❝ Cheeky bastard ⸻ depends on that cold shower goes. ❞ He says, following Tony to help him clean up and poker game has given him a little more energy than he had before they had came back.

📏Bap! (Tell me you current angsty Steve/Tony daydream fic)
🪭Bwamp! (Tell me you current smexy Steve/Tony daydream fic)
* daydream fic: a fic you might never write but it’s running thru your head when you get a minute
(send to 3 other Stony peeps askbox if you wanna)
Hehe this is cute! Thanks for sending this.
🐾Boop! - I spent an embarrassingly long time trying to think of something, and the closest thing I got is this idea of Steve drawing his dream man and then meeting and falling in love with Tony (see the third photo in the original post).
📏Bap! - Last week, I was hit with the sudden urge to write my abandoned WIP of post-EG Steve slipping out of time and in and out of Tony's life through the years when his quest to return the Stones goes awry. I want to write this SO BADLY, but I don't know if I'm skilled enough to write it.
🪭Bwamp! - Normally, I would have drawn a blank for this too, but while going through my WIPs (this is why I thought of the fic for #2 recently too), I rediscovered my post-CW hate sex WIP about Steve wanting to prove to an unconvinced Tony that he cares about him...which I think I kept secret until now or at least spoke about very rarely because I've never written a fic with any sex and I don't know if I'm any good at it. :^)) And now you all know that it exists!

‘Then let’s eat.’
Vincent’s sheepish smile turned into a hearty chuckle as he cast a grin up at Tony, the man’s three simple words evoking a memory of a phrase he hadn’t thought of since before June could walk. “In the words of my father, who, let’s be honest, probably stole it from Stephen King,” he said, “‘good food, good meat, good god, let’s eat!’” He laughed a little, returning his eyes to the flimsy table, where his invisible circles had somehow turned into hearts. “That was the prayer he used every time mom forced him to say grace. Of course, she fucking hated it, but I found it hilarious. It was pretty much the only time he had a sense of humor.”
Vince looked up when he heard Tony reach into a cabinet to pull out two plates. They didn’t match, which unfortunately didn’t come to Vince as much of a surprise. He didn’t get to look long, but the cabinet itself was fairly empty, with very few bowls and drinking glasses, the top shelf almost entirely populated with plastic cups that appeared to have been collected over time from cheap restaurants, though Vince somehow doubted Tony could afford to visit the restaurants and get them himself. Those, like the rest of his belongings, seemed to have been acquired secondhand.
There was a joke to be made about ‘works of art’ that Vince would also be incredibly interested in tasting, but he didn’t want to come off too pushy or eager even if less than twenty minutes ago, he’d shoved his hand down the man’s pants and told him all about how badly he wanted to choke on his cock. In exchange for keeping his mouth shut, he let himself enjoy the sight of Tony’s ass as he shook thick blue tortilla chips onto their plates and scooped copious amounts of topping all over them, the melty cheese and steaming meat somehow paling in comparison to Tony’s own visual deliciousness. Maybe Vince was a cannibal. There wasn’t a single part of the man he didn’t yearn to taste.
Vincent’s mood darkened upon Tony returning the conversation to his marriage, the smile on his face crumbling to dust. Placing both feet on the ground, he turned in his chair to face the table properly, pulling in a breath and attempting to focus on the music playing on the counter a few feet behind him. Some hip-hop/R&B hybrid that was good on the ears, though, strangely, the artist seemed to be comparing her love interest to a new pair of shoes. Back in Chicago, before she quit her career to become a stay-at-home mother, Stella had collected shoes. She liked the heeled kind — elegant boots and strappy sandals, all in various muted colors that complimented the nice jeans she’d wear in the winter or the dresses she’d wear when the weather was right. Dresses he’d loved to sneak his hand underneath in the back of the movie theater or, one time, during Thanksgiving at her parents’ place, which had led to a quickie against the dryer in the laundry room as her sister’s cat stared at them with bland disapproval from atop a pile of unwashed towels.
The plate Tony sat in front of him was glorious enough to pull Vincent out of the memory, his attention immediately drawn to the mountain of chips piled with cheese, veggies, and perfectly-seasoned meat, the entire meal a beautiful, multicolored mess of flavor he couldn’t wait to consume. His stomach growled and twisted, mouth watering almost immediately, but he placed his hands in his lap and forced himself to wait as Tony set down his own plate and retrieved the water bottles Vince had forgotten about right around the time Tony stepped into his space. He set the bottles down along with a small stack of napkins that he’d clearly gotten on clearance. They were left over from the 4th of July, proudly emblazoned with the vivid colors of the American flag. Vince nearly snorted at the randomness of it, but by the grace of baby Jesus, he bit his tongue just in time.
Tony sat down across from him on what appeared to be a foldable camping chair, the poor thing squeaking under his considerable weight. It made Vince wonder how it would feel to be crushed by Tony’s weight as he fucked him from behind, pinning Vince to the mattress so tight, he could hardly breathe. He only stopped staring at Tony’s hands — which, endearingly, were neatly folding the ‘Murica napkins like this was the fucking Cheesecake Factory — when the man declared that he didn’t judge Vince for ‘any of this.’ The flirting while married. The kissing while married. The fucking while married. In a word, the adultery. It should’ve given Vince some relief. Instead, it only made him wonder what exactly Tony had witnessed to make him feel like Vince couldn’t be blamed. It slowly occurred to Vince that it had to have been the scratches on his cheek during the traffic stop. Vince hadn’t explicitly confirmed his wife had done it, but Tony seemed to have come to that conclusion given the fact that he immediately attempted to commiserate by showing Vincent the bruise on his arm that had come from his ex. Vincent glanced at the arm in question, quick, furtive, and saw that the bruise had mostly faded, reduced to a subtle patch of green. He still wondered about the story behind it. Still itched to ask, still ached for justice. But in the end, he wouldn’t be seeing this guy again, and he wouldn’t be alive much longer anyway. There wasn’t much use in spending much more of their first and last hookup dwelling on what couldn’t be undone.
Vincent offered Tony a brief hum of acknowledgement and kept his eyes to himself, folding a napkin for no reason other than to kill time until the man gave some indication that it wouldn’t be rude to start eating. He was just beginning to think the topic was over when Tony implied he was about to be ‘totally honest,’ which indicated that Vince would be forced to suffer more of it. Vince’s sour disposition immediately cracked, however, when Tony boldly declared that he hadn’t been sure what Vince’s ‘deal’ was, and wasn’t about to ask. Vince barked a wheezy laugh, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he completed the third fold of his work-in-progress origami crane.
“My deal?” he asked, the mirth still rich in his voice. He glanced up at Tony for a moment, completing another fold without looking. “You mean why I came on to you, right? Well, to be honest, it’s a bit more complicated than you might think.” He turned the ‘Murica napkin at a 90 angle and made a smaller fold that would become the left wing, still grinning in amusement. “I could give you some ridiculous cover story like, 'I'd rather eat Trump's ass than remain celibate for the rest of my life,' but I guess now’s as good a time as any to confess that this was all just an elaborate plot to get you to join the Church of Scientology.” Tsk-ing his lips, he gave a quick shake of his head, feigning disappointment. “Unfortunately, as soon as I got my hand on your cock, I realized I forgot to bring the thousand-year contract I was gonna have you sign. Which is honestly a huge fucking bummer because now I'm not gonna get the movie deal they promised me.”
Chuckling, he looked up at Tony with a grin, making another fold as he watched him take a drink of water. “But really. I appreciate your… everything.” Vince looked back down at the unfinished crane, something tingling in his chest. "Thanks.”
When Tony cleared his throat, an obvious signal that he was moving swiftly on, Vincent released a particularly loud sigh of relief, too hungry and anxious to feel embarrassed over it. He rubbed his hands together and looked down at the nachos, breathing a laugh when Tony joked about liking it spicy. The man’s teasing wink went straight to Vince’s cock, and suddenly he didn’t feel quite so uncomfortable anymore, a bit of the tension bleeding out of his tight shoulders as he pushed the unfinished crane to the side.
"What are you talking about? Of course it's gonna be good,” Vince said, grinning with playfully furrowed brows. “So far, everything I’ve tasted of yours is fucking amazing — and I’m not just saying that ‘cuz I want you to touch my dick again,” he said with a playful laugh. Spying the jalapenos Tony had put on the side of the plate, Vincent lowered his voice a little, speaking quickly. “But I’m not gonna lie, I’m also kinda thinking about that right now too.”
Vince hovered his hand over the pile of jalapenos for a long moment, wiggling his fingers in indecision. Tony would want him to eat a jalapeno. It would help him save face if he ate a jalapeno. If the guy was of Latin descent, which Vince suspected, then it would be suicide if Vincent chose not to eat a jalapeno. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
Resisting the urge to glance up at Tony, Vince picked up the smallest slice of jalapeno he could find. Halfway to placing the jalapeno on top of a well-loaded chip, he huffed a breath, shook his head, and put it back, immediately grabbing and wiping his fingers off on a fresh napkin. “Nope. Nope, nope, I’m sorry, I can’t, they’re just—” Vincent looked up at Tony, shaking his head and laughing at his own patheticness. “I tried, I really did. I’m just too weak for it, man.”
Still laughing a little, he picked up a chip loaded with cheesy goodness, holding it up for a second just to admire its beauty as the glossy cheddar cheese pulled up from the plate in thin strings. He ate it in one large bite, the combination of flavors electrifying his tongue as he chewed with wide, mind-blown eyes. As soon as he swallowed, he tilted his head at Tony, mouth open in amazement. “Holy shit, Tony, these nachos are bitchin’,” he said, so impressed with the food, he forgot to cringe at his own frat-boy vocabulary.
“Like, fucking insane.” He picked up the napkin, wiped his mouth, and immediately sat it back down. “You know, they used to have this restaurant in the Chicago Loop back in, I dunno, ‘98? They’d give us these huge fuckin’ plates. I mean, just one was big enough for me and my mom, and I swear to god, it was just a fucking mountain of toppings, and the cheese was just out of this world, dude,” he said, gesturing wildly. “It was white cheese, though. I dunno what kind exactly, but I remember thinking it kinda looked like jizz. Anyway, it was fucking delicious. And to be honest?” He pointed down at the plate, smiling big and wide. “These are the only nachos I've had that come anywhere close.”
Vince picked up another chip, this time dipping it into the glob of sour cream Tony had placed in the middle, shaking his head down at the food in amazement. “How the hell did you get so good at cooking? Did you just pull the recipe out of your head, no Google or anything?”
Admittedly, it put Tony on edge the way Vince seemed to close up on himself - arms crossed, then hands in his pockets, looking away at anything other than him. All the hallmarks of someone terribly uncomfortable with the situation and wanting to get away fast. Tony’s mind reeled for reasons - though he wasn’t sure why he did that. Did he just need to identify a reason that had nothing to do with him as a person?
Was it the shitty apartment that was too off-putting? Did he secretly hate the idea of sharing a meal with him? Had he really pushed Vince too far, too fast? Or, God forbid, did he go so fast that he was pushy and Vince felt like that wasn’t actually something he consented to? A lump formed in Tony’s throat; the last thing he needed was some small-town cop accusing him of an assault like that. The FBI would drop his ass so fast he’d still be spinning when they threw him in a cell.
Except… He was perfect? And somehow, it wasn’t his fault, even if he apologized first. Tony swallowed hard, trying to push his tense fear away. Vince’s compliment about being real easy to get lost in brought a sheepish smile to his face. He lowered his head a bit, not sure if he wanted Vince to see the smile that brought when he was still so uncomfortable.
To hear Vince say it outloud - that he was married - did something odd to his stomach. He knew, of course he knew, he saw the ring. He saw his wife - who he had named That Blonde Bitch in his head - and how she was a pretty blonde even if she had murder and disdain on her face every time she looked in Vince’s direction. So it wasn’t surprise, it wasn’t shock. It wasn’t even guilt or regret, really, though maybe there was some of that. It was… sympathy? Pity? And maybe a bit of righteous anger. Not at Vince, but for Vince. Maybe for both of them. They both deserved better than this, but they’d also dug their own graves, so who did they really have to blame?
Tony chewed his bottom lip, staring out the window above the kitchen sink. The blinds were drawn down, but one of the slats was broken off and a bit of afternoon sunlight filtered through. That felt fitting. When he looked back, he swore he saw a single tear slide down the man’s face that Vince quickly wiped away. His brows furrowed with concern.
This was all a lot more complicated than he anticipated, but maybe he was an idiot for not anticipating it. It didn’t make him want to run, though.
Now came the thing that really did shock him - Vince changing his mind and declaring he’d stay. His first impulse was to ask Vince if he was sure, but it felt like if he asked Vince would change his mind again and be out that door, never to return. Watching Vince pull out one of those shitty, flimsy, mis-matched chairs at this shitty, flimsy card table that served as a dining table was almost surreal. Certainly this guy had a nice home, with real actual furniture, he could be at. Instead, he was here.
Because here was better than home.
Here, with a stranger Vince knew nothing about, on the shittiest side of town, in an apartment that was falling apart and locked tight with a deadbolt, where he’d be eating a meal he bought the ingredients for, on chairs that Tony was convinced would break under his mass someday.
Somehow, this was still better than home, and by God Tony had never wanted to offer his hand to pull someone out of their personal hell more than he wanted to pull Vince out right now. He knew damn well what it was like to reach for even the dimmest light nearby because it was better than the darkness you were currently in.
“Then let’s eat.” He offered Vince a smile and a nod of his head, pushing himself off the counter. He was not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, even if there was some confusion behind that smile of his.
“Promise taken back, then. Hands later, after you taste this work of art here.” Reaching up to one of his cabinets, he took out two plates - mismatched entirely, of course, and set about scooping nacho mix onto chips. He was careful not to break the chips as he prepared their plates, using the spatula to make sure each chip was as covered as he could make them. Jalapenos were arranged on the side - he wasn’t sure if it would be too spicy for Vince or not. None of that ‘dump chips on a plate and put a splat of nacho-goop on top and call it a day’ like some places did.
He felt like he should acknowledge Vince’s comment about being married, but it took him a bit to find words that would be coherent. He kept his back partially to Vince as he worked on the food, making sure it looked as appetizing as it was going to taste.
“And yeah. I know you are.” He didn’t even want to say the word married outloud. It was like cancer: if you don’t say it, don’t acknowledge it, you can pretend the other person doesn’t have it. At least for a while. The plates looked perfect, though he nudged a few chips around just to prolong him standing there for a moment longer before he picked up the plates and carried them over to the table. He sat one down in front of Vince first, then one in his spot, then stepped over to grab the bottles of water and napkins and brought those over as he took a seat. He sat down carefully, never quite trusting these chairs. The one he sat on squeaked.
“I don’t judge you for any of this.” He unfolded a napkin and smoothed it across his lap, the way someone does in a fancy restaurant with actual white linen napkins, not generic-brand slightly-crunchy-thin paper napkins. Another napkin, folded once, was tucked next to his plate. No forks for this meal - nachos were meant to be eaten with fingers and chips as utensils.
“If I can be totally honest? I wasn’t sure what your deal was, and I was not about to ask. It felt like none of my business. No judgment, not from me.” That bruise on his arm that was so fresh and visible the night he got pulled over was fading away well - still slightly visible, but mostly gone now. By this time next week, it’d be gone. Tony reached for his bottle of water and unscrewed the cap, taking a swig before replacing the cap.
“Anyway,” Tony cleared his throat, moving on because he didn’t want to make Vince more uncomfortable than he already might be. Maybe he’d pick the man’s brain more later, or they’d have a discussion about it. He had opinions but they didn’t need to be shared.
“Dig in, and let me know if you think this is good. If it is, I might start doing something similar at the diner. God knows that place needs some taste added to the menu. If it’s too spicy, I can tone it down some for the diner. But… I think you can tell I like it spicy.” He smirked at Vince, giving him a wink, hoping to lighten the mood.
This man was a rollercoaster, but he was enjoying the ride so far.
