“They’re here!”
Rolling off your bed and sprinting downstairs, you shoved past your younger brother to open the door. “Relax, you almost ran me over.” Jeremiah teased.
Conrad nudged his sister’s side. “You missed Steven that much, huh?”
You looked over at your older brother like he’d just betrayed you, heart in the pit of your stomach. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He looked away, and you muttered, trying to hit a nerve. “Miss Belly much?”
“What was that?” Success.
“Fisher!” All three of the siblings looked over, smiling when Belly ran over, racing into your arms. “Bells! I missed you.” Hugging her tightly, you admired her long auburn hair. “You’re absolutely glowing.”
Belly smiled, smacking your arm lightly. “Thank you.”
“Well, well, well. If it isn’t Trouble.”
You fought the urge to roll your eyes, turning around to face the eldest Conklin. “Steven. What have I told you about that nickname?”
He shrugged, hugging you quickly. “Don’t remember.”
“Try to use what remaining brain cells you have and remember.” You scoffed, shoving him away. Yelling over your shoulder as you walked back toward the house, your voice held just a hint of mischief. “And take a shower. You stink.”
Tumblr media
The air was salty, most likely because the of the wind combining with the crashing waves. You sighed, laying back on your bed and staring at the ceiling. Nights like this, quiet and peaceful, made this house perfect. Made summer perfect.
“Trouble?”
Your heart raced, and you jumped up, fixing your hair in the mirror before unlocking the door, Steven waiting patiently on the other side. Grabbing his wrist, you pulled him in, clicking the lock back into place. “What are you doing here? It’s late.”
He nodded. “I know it’s late. But-” He walked over, an arm snaking around your waist. “I had to see you.”
You grinned, feeling at ease in his hold. “Oh really?”
“Don’t go getting a big head about it.” He leaned down, your lips inches away. “You’ve been ignoring my texts.”
“Not true.” You laughed. “It’s been like five hours, Steven.”
“It feels like forever.” He whined, nudging his nose against yours. “Have you been bored without me?”
You shook your head. “Perfectly content, actually.”
“Ha ha.” He did not look amused. “I know you missed me.”
“Don’t go getting a big head about-” He pulled you closer, gasping from the proximity before you could think.
He smirked, shaking his head. “Can you just let me kiss you?”
“Steven-” His lips collided against yours, and your eyes fluttered shut, arms wrapping around his neck. He smiled into the kiss, walking until your back was against the door. You pulled away, whispering against his lips. “We have to be quiet.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Tumblr media
The sun was beating down on the beach house, not that any of you minded. It was welcomed, in fact, especially by you and Belly. Tanning was vital, with a super sweet Kool-Aid and magazines in hand. Not that either of you truly read the magazines; they were there to make you feel better about your ‘lazy’ nature. The boys opted to splash around in the pool, haphazardly causing (what felt like) gallons and gallons of water to land on them.
You’d yelped when the first splash hit you, your eyes shooting open, glaring at your brother. “Jeremiah!”
“What?”
“Stop it!”
“Why?” The blonde whined, pushing his wet hair out of his eyes. “You used to be fun.”
“I still am.” You rolled your eyes. “Would you like it if I splashed water on you while you were trying to relax?”
He scoffed. “Whatever.”
You sat back, and for about thirty minutes, there was peace. Then he struck again. You screamed, standing up and walking to the edge of the pool. “That’s it!”
Steven winced, shaking his head at Jeremiah. “That’s not good, man.”
“What did I-” He turned around, eyes widening in fear as he came face to face with you glaring daggers at him. “Shit.” Swimming to the edge, he smiled as brightly as he could. “Hello, dearest sister of mine.” You kicked near his face, and he gasped. “You just kicked me.”
“Annoying, right?” You crossed your arms and jutted your hip, forcing yourself to ignore Steven’s eyes bearing into your soul. “Splash water near me and Bells again, and I’ll make your life a living hell.” Jeremiah just sulked, playing with a rock that was near the border. You cleared your throat, tapping your foot while you waited for an answer. “Hello? Are we clear?”
“You’re overreacting.” Steven winced, but Jeremiah continued. “It’s just water. You used to love swimming.”
Conrad laughed, calling out, trying to offer his brother some advice. “Never tell a woman she’s overreacting, Jere.” Jeremiah, you were sure, was not listening.
“Jere…” You were practically seething. “Why are you being such a little shi-”
Steven swam over, whispering in Jeremiah’s ear. Whatever he said had worked because Jere nodded, looking up and apologizing as if he hadn’t been causing you trouble for five minutes now. “Fine. I’m sorry. I won’t do it again.”
“Thank you.” Jere nodded, swimming away, and you smiled gratefully at Steven, mouthing the say thing you had said to your brother. The boy simply nodded, smiling kindly and returning to whatever game they’d been playing before.
Conrad laughed, watching from across the pool. You weren’t subtle with your feelings in the slightest. He liked to think that he was more insightful than others, but maybe it also had something to do with you two always finding each other in a crowded room, locking eyes and giggling like you had your own little secret that no one else knew. Just you two.
Tumblr media
“Steven!” You giggled, his head in the crook of your neck. “You’re going to kill me.”
“Well, we can’t have that.” He whispered, kissing what felt like every inch of skin from your neck to your lips. “I can’t love a dead person; that’s odd and unethical.”
You gasped, shoving his chest half-heartedly. “Just kiss me, Conklin.”
“So pushy.” He shook his head, pulling away. “I’m not an object, y’know.”
“Oh, trust me. I know.” You leaned back in, but he shook his head, hiding his lips from you behind his hand. You raised an eyebrow, shaking your head at his antics. “Are you done?”
He shook his head once more, sitting crisscross at the foot of your bed, right beside your stuffed starfish you’d had since you were seven. “No. Another thing is that-” You ignored him, sitting up and practically crawling across the bed toward him. When that hadn’t gotten his attention, you’d opted to straddle his lap, playing with his hair until he relented. He sighed, gently pulling your hands out of his hair and holding them in his. “Are you listening?”
“Hanging on to every precious word.”
He laughed. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.” You smiled to yourself, getting lost in his gaze. His eyes were mesmerizing, the way his whole personality fit inside them.
“Tell me what I said then, Trouble.”
“I-” You batted your eyelashes, jutting a lip out ever so slightly. “I was distracted.”
“Distracted? From what? Admiring my beauty?” He questioned. “Don’t worry, it’s a common issue.”
“Common?” You raised an eyebrow, enjoying him squirming beneath your ‘harsh’ gaze. “Do you have a lot of girls admiring your beauty?”
“Not common! I meant more like-” You began to peel yourself away from him, and he panicked, pulling her down, their lips inches apart. “I’m sorry, don’t leave.”
“I was teasing you.” You whispered, your fingers playing with the hair that laid at the nape of his neck. “And you’re right.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. I don’t blame those girls. You are beautiful.” Your lips gently pressed against his. “So beautiful. Unfortunately, you’re mine.”
He nodded. “Damn right. Now come here.” His left arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you as close as he possibly could while the other caressed your cheek. “You’re the only one for me.”
You nodded, nudging his nose with yours. “Don’t get sappy on me.”
He shook his head, smiling. “Just- Just let me say this. You- you’re kind and funny and witty. I would never- I mean ever- talk to other girls. Not when I have THE Fisher Princess in my arms.”
You scoffed, rolling your eyes. “I bet you say that to all the girls.”
“Just you.” He whispered. “You know that day on the beach?” You nodded; of course, you remembered. “Do you remember all the things I said?” You nodded once more, and he nodded along with you. “I love you. I hope you know I meant that.” He laughed, wiggling his eyebrows playfully. “I don’t say that often; cherish it.”
“Oh, what a gift.” You teased. “The Steven Conklin loves me.”
“You’re trouble.” He smirked. “Lucky for you, I live for trouble.” Your heart felt full, seeing the pure sincerity in his face, hearing it in his tone. “You’re perfect, you know that, right?”
“Just stop talking.” She whined. “Stop talking and kiss me.”
“I can do that.” He agreed, grinning boyishly as he leaned in. “I can totally do-”
“What the actual fuck?” You stopped, perfectly still, as another voice broke through their little paradise. Turning your heads toward the new presence, your smile, your butterflies, all the adrenaline you’d had dropped dead at the sight of Jeremiah’s normally jovial face staring at you like you’d grown three heads. “What the fuck is going on?”
“Jere...” Steven hesitantly spoke. “Just-”
“Why is my sister on your lap, Conklin?” Jeremiah looked positively livid, his face red.
“Let me explain.”
Jeremiah scoffed. “Explain? What- is this like-” His face contorted, horror setting in. “How long?”
“It was so sudden at first-”
“How long?”
“What’s going on?”
You groaned, dropping your face into the crook of Steven’s neck. Anytime you touched your boyfriend, Jeremiah’s anger increased tenfold. Now, not only was your outrageously (dramatic) younger brother here, your older brother was in the room, deciding to grace you with his presence.
“Hello?” Conrad’s slightly annoyed voice rang through the otherwise quiet room once again. “Someone better start talking.”
Jeremiah nodded. “You’re lucky my sister’s on your lap, Conklin, or I’d-”
You lifted your head, glaring at your brother. “Don’t you dare threaten him to beat him up, Jeremiah.”
“He’s- you’re-” Your younger brother couldn’t form a coherent sentence. “You’re defending him?”
“I am! It’s not that big of a deal.”
“Yes, it is!”
“Jeremiah, I love him.”
Steven smiled to himself before remembering where they were. “I’m sorry, guys. I really am.”
Conrad shrugged. “I mean, I wish you would have told us.” You held your breath as he spoke again. “If you’re happy though, really happy, then I’m happy.”
Jeremiah shook his head. “What? No!”
You pulled yourself out of Steven’s lap, placing a hesitant hand on Jeremiah’s arm. “Jere, it wasn’t planned. We both happened to be here, and one thing led to another, and we didn’t want to tell anyone. Not at first, anyway. Just to be safe.”
He stayed deathly silent, grunting out the same question. “How long?”
“About five months.” Steven butt in, staring at the ground when Jeremiah began to stare him down yet again. “Give or take.”
“Five months, and you just neglected to tell anyone?” Jeremiah scoffed. “Have you told Mom? Or Dad?”
“Why would I tell Dad?” You crossed your arms. “It’s not like he cares.”
“He cares! He would want to know!” Jeremiah yelled. “And Mom?”
“Mom would be thrilled.” You began to stop feeling bad. Now you were honestly pissed that he wasn’t happy for you. Sure, you understood that lying to him was horrible, but it’s not as if you’d committed a heinous crime. “And you know it.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes.”
“If you’re so sure…” He smirked, challenging you. “Then go tell her.”
“Jeremiah.” You frowned, tears begging to fall. You hadn’t even realized they’d begun to form. “Can you please just be happy for me?”
“I-” He looked like a fish beached on the shore, mouth opening a closing constantly, nothing coming out. “I-”
You rolled your eyes, not bothering to wait for his answer. Grabbing Steven’s hand, you intertwined your fingers with his, racing down the stairs and out of the house, jumping in your car.
“Where are we going?”
“Anywhere.” You sniffled, tears slowly falling. “Anywhere but here.”
Tumblr media
The boardwalk was quiet, hours past it’s scheduled closing. The lights were dim, barely illuminating the deck below you. You were pacing, ranting about your brother while Steven stayed perfectly silent. “It’s not fair! It’s just not.”
“I mean…” You stopped, your hands on your hips. “If Jere’s so upset, we must have really hurt him.” Steven frowned, staring at his hands. “I feel bad for lying.”
“Jeremiah has been a drama queen since we were kids.” You scoffed. “He’ll get over it.”
“Maybe,” Steven shrugged. “But he’s my best friend.”
Your heart dropped, picking up what Steven wasn’t saying, but thinking. “He’s my brother. And I love him, but I- I love you too. I won’t give you up because he’s upset.”
“Well…” Steven sighed. “Maybe we should just take it slower or-”
“Take it slower?” You crossed your arms, disbelief etched on your features. “Were you not saying mere minutes ago that you would never let me go?”
“I meant it, I really did.” He stood up, arms reaching out to hold her. “But if we’re upsetting him, maybe we should try and-”
“NO!” You shook your head, backing away from him. “No, I am not slowing down because my little brother feels left out.”
Steven frowned. “Trouble, can you please just consider it?”
“No.” You felt tears forming. “You shouldn’t even be considering this. You love me, right?”
“You know I do.”
“Then just stay- stay with me. Like this. Jeremiah will get over it, he’ll be happy for us.” She smiled, trying to convince him, but his eyes- he was fading, her tears began to fall. “Stay with me, please.”
“I want to stay with you.” His voice was soft, softer than it had ever been. “I don’t want to break up, but-”
“Steven.” Your voice, in contrast, was harsh, cold, and unnerving. “Either you stay with me, or we’re done. I am not negotiating with a- a-” You squeezed your eyes shut, hissing. “A terrorist!”
“Trouble, don’t say that.”
“You know what I mean!” You yelled, your arms flailing. Walking to the railing, you looked out, trying to focus on not sobbing in front of Steven.
“I love you,” Steven whispered, standing next to you, arms pressed together.
“I love you too.” You let your head fall onto his arm. “I won’t take it slower, Steven. I won’t.”
“Trouble…” His voice was heavy, you could have sworn he was about to cry, too. Looking up, you frowned when you discovered you’d been right. “Can you just try?”
“No.” You backed away. “And if this is what you want, then- then we’re done.” You swear your heart broke in two.
Steven’s shoulders dropped. “Don’t say that.”
“I mean it, Steven.” You were fully sobbing at this point. “I won’t be reduced to a mere hookup because of my brother. Either be my boyfriend, or we’re done.”
“Baby…”
You held yourself tightly, nodding. “Fine.” You turned around, your pace brisk as you passed the car. Steven yelled after you, most definitely crying. “Where are you going?”
“Home, you asshole!” You screamed. “I won’t get in that- that stupid car with you.”
“C’mon. Don’t let it end this way!”
You whipped around, eyes wild with rage, with betrayal. “ME? You didn’t even fight! You let Jeremiah make you feel bad, and you just stood there.” You muttered, turning back around. “You’re pathetic.”
“Stop it. You’re being mean.”
“Well, you broke my heart.” You hissed, feeling the urge to run but not having the energy to do so. “Where does that leave us?”
The town was quiet, and every so often, you turned around, checking to see if Steven was still there, following five steps behind you. He was, he always was. It was annoying, to say the least. And as the driveway to the summer house came into view, you found a new wind, practically running into the house and storming up the stairs.
Your mother stood at the top of the steps, frowning. “You look horrible, my love.” Her arms were outstretched, and you felt brand new tears form, your inner child begging to be held by your mother. “What happened?”
“I-” You sobbed, throwing yourself into your mother’s arms. Her hold was solace in the hell, and you wept. “I love him.”
“Who, my sweet girl?” Her voice was like honey.
“I love him.” You were like a broken record, sobs echoing through the house. Steven watched from the bottom, his tears falling like an unrelenting storm.
Tumblr media
The country club was beautiful, as it always was when your family attended. Your mother had one arm hooked through yours, the other through Conrad’s. She smiled, nudging her children. “My handsome son and my radiant daughter.”
Conrad groaned, smiling through it all. “Mom.”
“Look at us.” Her voice was teary, and Jeremiah laughed, shaking his head.
“Mom, you’re not going to cry, are you?”
You glared, eyes sharp. “Jeremiah, shut up.”
“What? And ruin my makeup? No way. Everything’s going to be different next year.” Steven stood beside Jeremiah, and your eyes darted to the ground. “Conrad’s going off to college. My girl is graduating from high school. It may be the last summer we’re all together.”
“Mom!” You frowned. “Don’t say that. Everything will be fine.”
Jeremiah stepped forward, pulling her out of his sibling's arms. “Just don’t forget, I get to dance with you tonight.” He started twirling your mother, and you smiled, leaning your head on Conrad’s shoulder as you watched.
“Ooh.” She sounded pained, and the three Fisher siblings stilled, observing their mother closely.
“Mom, you okay?”
“Yeah, it’s just been way too long since I’ve danced. I must be out of practice.”
Conrad was tense, tenser than he had been when they’d gotten there. Extending his arm, your mother accepted gratefully. “You coming?”
You nodded. “I’m right behind you.”
Tumblr media
The table had been tense, what with Mr.Conklin and Laurel, Cleveland (Laurel’s summer hookup), and Steven all at one table. Plus, she had a sneaking suspicion that her mother’s incident earlier wasn’t from her lack of dancing.
Nevertheless, she smiled as if nothing was wrong. Laurel admired her hair, shaking her head sarcastically. “Susannah, she is perfect.”
You blushed, thanking her. “You’re too kind, Laurel.”
Your mother smiled, nodding. “She is perfect, I agree. And this dress?” She laughed, admiring its cut and the way it fit you like a glove. “Also perfect.”
Mr. Conklin smiled. “I remember when you used to run around with socks on your hands, pretending they were gloves and demanding people to kiss your ‘ring.’ Now look at you.”
Conrad was the first to burst out into laughter, holding onto Steven’s arm for support. Steven’s gaze never faltered, though, staring at you through it all. You glared playfully. “Thanks for the reminder, Mr.Conklin.”
“It’s been eighteen years.” Mr.Conklin admonished. “Call me John.”
This wasn’t the way you thought you’d call him by his first name. You thought, in your daydreaming, that it would be when Steven introduced you as his girlfriend, as more than just the Fisher’s daughter. Now, it was because of nothing special at all. You nodded, taking a sip of your Shirley Temple. “Fine, fine. John.”
The conversation quickly broke off from the subject, and you nodded, glad not to be the focus of the table anymore. The focus of Steven. Conrad even occasionally stepped in, telling a funny anecdote from their childhood. It was nice to see your older brother happy, compared to what he’d been for the majority of the summer.
His eyes were still burning a hole into your skin. You sighed, looking over at Belly, who was anxiously playing with the skirt of her dress. “Have you seen Jeremiah? The dance is about to start.”
You shook your head, frowning. “Sorry, Bells, haven’t seen him since you have.” You looked over at Conrad, who was staring at Belly with a lovestruck look in his eyes. Oh brother, you thought to yourself. This was going to be messy indeed.
Your mother frowned, watching as the youngest Conklin walked up by herself. Conrad just stared, and before you could say anything, stood up, walking up to Belly and holding out his hand. You smirked, watching proudly as your brother once again saved Isabel Conklin.
Your mother grinned, admiring the pair. “Look at them. She’s luminous.”
Laurel nodded. “For Belly, Conrad’s the sun, and when the sun comes out, the stars disappear.”
Your heart twisted from jealousy of their apparent love for one another, from your lost love, you couldn’t quite place. You looked away, accidentally locking eyes with Steven. He looked surprised but not disappointed. Taking the chance, he whispered, loud enough so that you could hear him over the music, but quiet enough that it wasn’t noticeable.
“You look beautiful.”
You wanted to feel happy, to feel adored and loved when the boy you’d spent so much time with called you that, but all you felt was sadness. Sad that he’d just reminded you you weren’t his anymore.
You pretended not to hear him, standing up. “If you’ll excuse me, I need to reapply my lip liner.”
You’d never used lip liner, your mother and Laurel knew that, but you weren’t about to tell the entire table you were leaving because Steven Conklin complimented you.
You’d gotten maybe three steps away from the table when a hand, his hand, wrapped around your wrist. “Let me go, Steven.”
“No.” He hissed, “I can’t do this anymore.”
“Don’t talk to me about that. If you recall, I never wanted to do this in the first place.”
You tried to pull out of his grasp, but he spun you around, eyes full of want. “You know I can’t do that. It’s been torture not being able to talk to you.” He leaned down, whispering in your ear. “To kiss you.”
Chills ran down your spine as you willed yourself not to give in. “Well, you should have thought about that before letting me go.” You shook in his hold once more, glaring. “Now release me before I-”
“What’s going on here?” Laurel’s voice broke through the moment, almost jumping from the shock of it all.
“Steven was just telling me I had something in my teeth.” You widened your eyes, trying to signal that he should keep his mouth shut. “Weren’t you?”
He nodded, letting go of your wrist, visibly dejected. “Yep. Just helping her out.”
You smiled, but you felt it, too. The disappointment, the longing. Still, you couldn’t show, otherwise, Laurel would most definitely figure it out. She had a sort of spidey sense about these things. You walked back toward the table, noticing your brother’s hurriedly talking on the dance floor.
“What are you two doing?” Jeremiah turned around, eyes filled with tears, threatening to fall with each second. “Jere? Are you okay?”
He opened his mouth, only one word leaving his lips. “Mom…” Conrad looked solemn, like he knew what Jeremiah was about to tell him.
“We’ll talk about this later, okay?”
“No, it’s important.” Jeremiah was insistent, and the pit in the bottom of your stomach grew.
“Someone fill me in here.” You looked to your older brother for guidance. “Connie?”
“You already know, don’t you?” Conrad refused to respond. “You’ve known this whole fucking time and didn’t tell me?”
“Jere-”
Before anyone had realized it, Jeremiah punched Conrad, gasps echoing through the crowd. You yelped, shoving your brother. “What the hell, Jeremiah!” Jeremiah pushed you away, tackling Conrad to the ground. “Jere!”
You stalked over, grabbing your brother’s ears and pinching them. “Don’t make me-”
“Stop it!” Your mother’s voice was stern and firm, silencing the room with one fell sweep. “All of you, stop it.” You let go, walking over until you were facing her. “What is going on?”
“Mom…” Jeremiah’s lip quivered.
“We know, Mom.” Conrad’s voice was quiet. “We all know.”
In that moment, even though your suspicions had never been confirmed, you knew your brother was right.
You did know.
Your mother’s cancer had returned.
Tumblr media
It had ended rather anti-climactically in your opinion. You hadn’t even said goodbye: you’d woken up, and they were gone, not bothering to wake you up. You were back in Boston now, curled up on your favorite couch, reading your favorite book, when the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it!” You yelled, knowing the rest of your family was on the patio on the other side of the house. Racing out of the living room, you slid against the foyer floor, pulling the door open. “Oh.” You whispered. “Hi.”
“Hi.” Steven smiled, the largest bouquet you’d ever seen clasped tightly in his hands. “I- I wanted to get you these.” He held them out. “I saw them at the market and thought of you.” You just stared, which made him even more nervous. “I know you love these, you used to talk about them all the time, and well- I felt bad, leaving you the way I did. I thought if I- if I brought you these we could talk. Y’know? Can we please… talk?” You swallowed, your mouth suddenly feeling very dry. “I miss you, Trouble, and I-” He stood straighter, clearing his throat. “I love you.” You were finding it hard to speak. “I get it, if you don’t-”
Hard to speak, but not at all, hard to act. You leaped forward, throwing yourself at him and pulling his lips to yours. His eyes widened before quickly realizing what was happening, dropping the bouquet and pulling you close. His fingers pushed underneath your shirt, caressing your skin gently, and you gasped. “Steven-”
“Sorry, sorry.” He spoke against your lips, trying to kiss you again. “I just-”
“I love you.” You whispered. “I love you, Conklin.”
He grinned, leaning his forehead against yours. “I love you, Trouble.”

steven conklin x fem! reader
🗯 ! kissing, established relationship, rain & thunder, short but sweet !
synopsis; you've had a love for collecting seashells since you were little and you had a whole afternoon planned specifically for collecting shells, but your plans are put to a halt as the once bright sun hides behind the clouds and you're left with the pouring rain. sadden by the change of plans you text your boyfriend, steven, he knows just the thing to cheer you up. — ♡ ᵎᵎ
Tumblr media
The happiness that had filled your body is something that one would deem childish. You planned an afternoon where you were supposed to go out to the beach and pick through the sand for shells. While you were getting ready you hadn't realized the formation of the storm clouds that began to appear. Unfortunately, as you were about to head out the soft sound of raining turned your smile into a frown.
You plopped yourself on your bed with a sad sigh, deciding to text your boyfriend Steven about the sad situation you were currently dealing with. Steven quickly informs you that he'll be over shortly to cheer you up. You waited as the thunder roared throughout your house, for Steven to arrive.
Steven hurried to find a coat and boots, making his way to the beach in no time. He spent his time carefully and concisely choosing shells that he thought you would love or ones that reminded him of you. Each shell had to be perfect for you. And even though Steven knows you'll end of talking to Belly about the sweet gesture which will than result in Jeremiah hearing about, who teased him the most for his smitten behavior towards you. In the moment it may be a tad bit embarrassing for him, but once he thinks about it later he's reminded that you spoke to his sister about it which meant that it clearly made you happy. That's what he cherished the most. Your happiness. Even if your happiness was something others saw as childish.
Tightly holding the secured sea shells Steven waddles to your place, politely knocking on the doors which leads to you springing off your bed in pure excitement. However, you were expected to see your boyfriend drenched in water holding sea shells close to himself. In that very moment you couldn't hold it in anymore, you pressed the palm of your hand to your mouth as tears leaked out of your eyes. You couldn't believe that he had went through all the trouble of getting you sea shells on a rainy day, when you followed him into your bedroom and he set the shells down you tackled him onto your bed, kissing any part of his face that your lips could find. Steven sat up with lovestruck eyes as he slight sways in circles over your overwhelming kisses. He gently pulls your face up to his and gives you a delicate kiss on the lips that makes you want to faint.
As you lay your head on his chest you mumble a string of words, "How can I be the luckiest girl in the world to have such an amazing boyfriend? "
" Because I'm the luckiest guy in the world to have such an amazing girlfriend" He smiles down at you.
Moving small pieces of hair away from your face, you smile brightly at him. Steven always had a tendency to move pieces of your hair away from your face and often smiled at you with the most loving eyes when you had your hair pulled back. Now all you could think about was how you were going to take those same shells and make matches bracelets for you two out of them. You knew that if you gave Steven a bracelet and showed him your matching one he'd put it on in seconds and never take it off even if it was falling apart.
☆ | this one was a very short one with little dialogue but i do hope you enjoyed!!

• as belly’s older brother, steven is inherently protective. you've witnessed his overprotectiveness with her and thought it couldn’t intensify, but you were mistaken.
• during conversations, if he disagrees with something you say, he will playfully shove you away with a full-on palm-over-the-face gesture to cut you off.
• steven is EXTREMELY competitive. his competitive nature will inevitably get on your nerves, but he likes to claim that it’s all a part of his charm.

• the two of you actually have regular hangouts without steven (he claims that he hates this, but he’s secretly happy that you get along with his sister so well).
• steven has a unique way of pulling you into his hugs— always by your shoulders first. his hugs are incredibly strong, often knocking the wind out of you, which never fails to make him laugh.

• steven LIVES for making you laugh, even when you don’t want to (especially during arguments). his humor is his way of diffusing the tension, though he will eventually get serious to address the issue.

Note
Hi so I was hoping to request a the summer I turned pretty fic(platonic relationship with everyone but steven?) I’m like very insecure about my body. When I was younger I was so skinny to the point you can see my ribs and whenever I eat I feel sick and throw up the food or I have to force myself too. And I just can’t gain weight, and being in a Hispanic house hold isn’t good at supporting or comforting. So I get made fun of a lot for being skinny. I just feel like they wouldn’t make fun of me for being very skinny.

summary: request
steven conklin x reader
a/n: i’m sorry you’ve felt this way ml, but you’re always amazing the way you are. i hope this brings you some happiness and comfort <3
y/n’s been surrounded by people differently her whole life. it’s been a struggle since she was too young, something she shouldn’t have had to worry about. comments and remarks got the best of her, though. little points about her ribs and her slim stomach, people complaining that she was too thin. they said she looked sick, ill, they thought maybe something was wrong with her. any time she went out to the beach or on a hot summer day, she got stares from wrongfully concerned people.
it took her a while to find a group of people who accepted her no matter what her body type was. when she started going to cousins during the summers, she met her true friends. she met the conklins first, seeing them around town with their mother. they were so sweet, giving her accepting looks and not one ounce of judgement in their eyes. then, she met the fishers, who were raised with respect and gentleness for everyone in their community. y/n admired that about them, knowing that they could be good friends.
for a while, she was nervous about what they might think of her. they might see her body and get freaked out, give her dirty looks, think she was ugly. but, to y/n’s surprise, they didn’t give any of those. they were so kind, and didn’t feel the need to make comments.
y/n grew up with comments from her own family as well, feeling like there was no one in the world who would understand. all she wanted was someone on her side, someone who didn’t critique every little part of her. her arms, her legs, her stomach, her face. she wanted people to know her heart and the beauty she has on the inside and the outside.
something was always special about steven. he was always someone to connect with, and he was always ready to have a good time. he was raised well, his mother teaching him proper manners and sweetness in his demeanor. he was a good guy, and maybe he knew it.
y/n and steven had been official since the beginning of the summer. they’d visited each other very often throughout the year, always delighted to see the others face. y/n’s worries and insecurities all disappeared with him, never feeling like he was thinking bad about her. it was a beautiful thing, it was rare, but y/n loved him for it.
it was still new though, y/n’s insecurities popping back up even when she was with her group of friends. some days, she just wanted to stay home and forget about anything. even if she was all dressed, looking in the mirror felt like a drop of energy. she begins the cycle of picking everything people might not like about her.
steven always knew that she had the problem, and that her family didn’t support her either. he never understood how people could be so cruel to a loved one about something that they can’t control. it shocked him even more, because y/n was nothing less of glorious in his eyes. he looked at her with complete adoration, thinking that her personality and her adorable smile were something to die for.
he never hesitated to comfort her when thoughts flooded her mind. he always checked up on her, bringing her anything she might need and staying with her. he reassures her every day, making her feel at peace. if it weren’t for steven, she would’ve just wallowed in whatever anyone else said.
the whole group of confused about why people would say that to her. she’s so pretty, and she always has been. there’s no room in people’s lives to judge other people, but somehow they want to make her feel bad.
they invited y/n out to the boardwalk, preparing to tease her and steven the whole time. y/n was excited. she loves spending time with steven and that whole group makes her feel whole. she only feels accepted. steven had said he wanted to come over and see her early today, so he drove over as she was getting ready.
she wanted to feel pretty. she put her favorite outfit on, and did her hair in a luscious style. the first glance in the mirror wasn’t as painful as the stares that followed. her eyes wandered down to her legs, and up the rest of her body. she tried to conceal anything she could, but she was taken out of her attempt when a few light knocks appeared on the door.
“hey, your mom let me in,” steven says, a light grin on his face. he can tell what y/n was doing, standing in front of the full body mirror with a stiff stance. he always hated when he saw her trying to cover up, he wants to be able to love every part of y/n that he can.
“hi,” y/n replies, softly. “i’ll be ready in a minute.”
“you look ready, and you look perfect,” he tells her, a weave of confusion through his voice.
“i was going to change the shirt, i really liked this one but now i’m not sure,” y/n sighs, gazing back at herself. steven grabs her shoulders lightly, turning her to face him.
“listen to me,” he says. “you look absolutely gorgeous in that. you don’t have to change for anyone. i wish you could see your beauty through my eyes.”
y/n smiles, knowing that steven isn’t lying one bit. he’s truthful, and she knows he loves her. she steps out of the view of the mirror, adjusting her new shirt a bit more before leaving with him. she feels safe when he’s near, and the harsh doubt in her mind subsides to a slight.
when she gets out of the car in the parking lot, she meets up with her friends who run to greet her. belly jogs up, taking y/n in her arms and looking at her fine jewelry.
“this is so cute!” she squeals, running a soft finger on it.
“thanks, belly!” y/n laughs, spotting taylor running over. taylor and belly together always look perfect, guys look at them walking together, they compliment each other perfectly. she used to feel like a shadow with them, but they only accepted her.
“is that the new shirt you bought the other day at that boutique?” taylor asks, pointing at the new article. “you look the hottest, y/n, i swear.”
“taylor, come on-“
“no! doesn’t she look hot guys?” taylor questions, turning to face steven who was talking with the fisher brothers.
“when doesn’t she?” steven asks, smirking at y/n before turning around.
“uh, yeah! you look great, y/n,” jeremiah adds, along with a compliment from conrad. steven playfully shoots them a death stare, basically saying ‘back off’.
y/n laughs, spending the day with her friends knowing that they love her, and she feels pretty in her own skin with them.

Tumblr media
The sun sets low, casting a warm glow upon the unfamiliar garden. The air is thick with the hum of laughter and music that drifts from the house, and everything seems perfect. It should be perfect. This is the stuff summer dreams are made of, and yet, you’re sitting on the outdoor furniture, alone, and left to your own devices.
Summer so far has been nothing but longing. You had watched as the one boy who had captured your heart at ten spent days at the beach with girls you didn’t even know the names of. And sure, it’s not like you have anything, not even close. But could you blame yourself? Jeremiah was nothing but perfect Carolina-blue eyes and golden skin. He was your summer dream.
The house party was meant to be a distraction, that’s what Steven had said when he tugged you into his car. It’ll be fun, you need to stop being sad all summer. He was nothing but adamant to make this summer the best yet, especially with the overhanging weight that Conrad and himself would be moving to college next year. Steven had never been fond of change, especially not when it came to summers at Cousins.
Steven had long since abandoned you to dance the night away with pretty girls and hooting boys, so instead here you are, sitting alone at a party, trying to fill the Jeremiah-shaped cavity in your heart with fruity drinks and loud music.
Jeremiah hadn’t been in sight when you first arrived at the party, and maybe that was a good thing. You could enjoy yourself for once, without your wandering eyes finding him somewhere with his hand on a girl's waist. Even just the thought of it made you sick to your stomach.
But sometime between then and now, he had shown up. Figures. And now you watch as he makes his way out of the big back doors, down the patio steps, past the pool, until he’s sitting with you in the makeshift gazebo, fairy lights sparkling above.
“Hey trouble,” Jeremiah greets as he sits on the plush outdoor sofa next to you, sidled up close enough that he bumps his shoulder with yours in welcome.
“Hey,” you parrot back, not meaning for the obvious buzzkill tone in your voice.
“What’s got you all bummed out?”
“Dunno.” you reply, eyeing the cold drink you’re balancing on your thigh which leaves a cold ring of condensation on your bare skin. “Did Steven send you to get me?”
Jeremiah’s eyebrows draw together in confusion as he cocks his head to the side. “No? Why would he need to? Can I not check up on my favourite girl?”
You let out a bemused snort, running your finger around the brim of your glass, eyes still not meeting his. Maybe you have had too much to drink.
“Come dance with me,” he says instead, hand outstretched, waiting for yours. You let your head fall against the back of the sofa.
“Not in a dancing mood.”
You don’t know if it’s the drinks or if it’s real, but Jeremiah shakes his head, a soft smile gracing his features as he tucks the stray strands of hair that have fallen in front of your face behind your ear. His hand lingers there a few seconds too long.
“What happened to dancing the summer away?” He questions, and when you finally look up to meet his eyes, he’s much closer than you expected.
“I was fifteen when I said that,” you note, which was almost two years ago now. How does he remember these things?
Jeremiah doesn’t respond immediately so you take your eyes off him, instead you watch the house glow to life, light filling the windows as the dark night begins to blanket the sky. The garden itself is empty with most of the party opting to escape the summer heat by seeking shelter indoors. A few girls are busy by the poolside, and you notice one of them keeps diverting her gaze back to where you and Jeremiah are sitting. Typical.  It was like every girl in Cousins was obsessed with the prospect of at least one of the Fisher boys taking fancy in them. Was it bad that it always made you jealous? Everyone who sees him, wants him, and you wish you could keep him as just yours.
“You have an admirer,” you point out, nodding to the girl by the pool. You must admit, she’s gorgeous. Pretty brown eyes and gorgeous hair that even when wet seems to frame her face perfectly. You slink further down in your seat.
Jeremiah simply rolls his eyes at you. “Well she is pretty.”
And you know he means it as a joke. Can tell by the stupid grin and the tone of his voice. But the words are still like a dagger to your heart, twisting and turning until you can barely breathe - and oh God, you need to get out of here and away from him.
You set the drink down by the sofa, it meets the wooden deck with a too-loud clink before you stand abruptly. You brush down the skirt that had ridden up your legs as the ring of water on your thigh left behind by the glass soaks the edges of it. “I need to go,” is all you can murmur out.
“No, wait-” Jeremiah begins, standing to follow you.
“It’s fine,” you push, faux niceties lacing your voice, smiling as much as the ache in your chest will let you. You can feel the frown on his face burn into your back as you turn to leave, but you choose to ignore it, instead making your way back into the large lively house.
As you pass the pool though, the girl who has been eyeing Jeremiah gets up with a giddy look on her face, she calls to him in a sweet honeyed voice and it makes you sick.
You climb the patio steps, making your way through the lavish interior of the house.
You push through the crowd of people within the house. You just need a moment to yourself, to gather your thoughts and figure out just what the fuck was going on with you. Carefully, you slip into the bathroom, pushing the door shut with the weight of your body before leaning against the sink. You take deep breaths, trying to calm the beating of your heart.
All summer, you had been in some strange sad limbo, and you had blamed Jeremiah for that. For all the girls he had kissed at every party, for the way he made your heart beat and palms grow clammy. But really, was it his fault when you were the one who pushed him away?
Being in love with Jeremiah Fisher was anything but easy, not when you had to dance around the intricate friendship that had blossomed since you were eight years old. You didn’t know what love was until you were fifteen, sitting on the pier with him as you skidded rocks across the ocean. When he had smiled that smile and his eyes sparkled like the entire cosmos was within them. From that very moment on, you were doomed. Every brush of his hand against yours felt like a calculated step, and it was your fault for deluding yourself into believing he had space in his heart for anything more than a friendship with you.
It’s only a million times worse when you’re as close with him as you are, casual flirting and lingering touches was nothing but the norm. So it was especially difficult when he’d grab your hand and lead you through a crowd, or whisper some stupid inside joke just for you in a crowded room, when such a simple touch set your body alight with sparks.
“Knock knock,” you hear the door open softly, Steven’s head poking through. You had forgotten to lock the door, you realise. “Jeremiah thinks you're mad at him.” He informs, voice careful and soft as he closes the door behind him, making his way to you and placing a comforting hand on your shoulder.
You shake your head, unable to find the words to express the turmoil within yourself. Instead, you offer a weak smile letting out a shaky exhale. “Well, I’m not.”
Steven looks amused as he leans with his back against the sink next to you, tilting his head so it falls into your field of vision. “You sure?”
“Very sure.” You confirm.
“I think you’re lying.”
You take another breath, “I’m not mad, i’m just…” your voice trails off as you try to find the words.
“Angry, confused, sad?” Steven offers.
You shake your head as you poke his shoulder, “would you let me speak?”
“Yes ma’am, sorry ma’am,” he throws his hands up in surrender.
“I’m just… tired,” you say, defeated. Steven gives you an apologetic look. He’s known about your not-so-little crush on Jeremiah. How could he not when he seemed to be the only person who could light you up when you were dim and down?
“I’m tired of having to watch him go out with other girls every other day. I mean it’s not like we’re exclusive - we’re definitely not - but I just wish I didn’t feel like throwing up everytime.”
For a second, Steven doesn’t say anything, he looks at you with those eyes he does when he’s thinking. “What’s that thing Susannah always says?”
“What?”
“About…” He blows out his bottom lip as he struggles to remember the words, “about how love is like a flower, it needs time to grow and blossom and you need to nurture it.”
You pause, before cracking a smile. “Never in a million years would I have even imagined you quoting one of Susannah’s cheesy pieces of romance advice.”
Steven rolls his eyes at you, but he can’t help the smile that creeps up on him too. “Look, the point is, love isn’t supposed to be easy. Like, at all. But you really like Jeremiah, and I get it, he can really suck sometimes, especially with the whole hooking up thing,” - he looks up at you as he finishes his sentence, - “but if you love him as much as you let on, you’ve gotta just go for it. You need to stop pushing him away because of your irrational fear.”
Shaking your head, you turn fully to face Steven, crossing your arms defensively across your chest. “Okay, it’s not irrational, it’s completely rational. What if I just end up ruining everything? That’s a super real possibility. I don’t want to lose Jeremiah as a friend, and the risk of running that possibility is way too high.”
“God,” Steven lets out through a sigh, he looks like he wants to strangle you. “Listen to yourself! Maybe if you haven’t been moping around all summer you’d be able to see it.”
“See what?”
“Just go out there and talk to the boy.”
“This’d be a lot easier if you just told me.”
“I think you’d appreciate me a lot more if you figured it out for yourself.” Steven tells you, and he says it in a way that leaves little room to bicker back. He gives you an encouraging nod and a soft smile and for a minute you think he’ll say another stupid thing like go get ‘em tiger! But he graces you with silence and leaves you alone in the small bathroom.
You look back at yourself in the mirror. Maybe Steven is right.
‧₊˚☆༉‧₊˚.
Jeremiah is sitting on the steps of the patio when he hears the sliding glass doors open and shut and the shuffle of Steven’s old sneakers. Immediately, his head swivels so he’s facing his long-time best friend. “So what’d she say? Is she mad?” He blurts out immediately.
“Woah, slow down lover-boy,” Steven says, amusement in his tone. He takes a seat next to Jeremiah, placing his hands either side of himself. “Well, she’s not happy.”
“What the fuck, bro,” Jeremiah grumbles, “you were meant to deescalate the situation.”
“Actually no, I was checking up on my friend, who I care about, and who I haven’t been dancing around all summer long.” Steven corrects.
Jeremiah looks away, unamused, “okay I get it. I haven’t been the best person to her lately.”
“Really?” Steven gasps, faux surprise lacing his tone, “You’ve been avoiding her like the plague and hanging around with random girls like you want her to be upset.”
“I don’t!” Jeremiah is quick to retort. “I’m just…”
“You’re just being a dick.”
“That’s not fair-”
“Look man, I’m not trying to upset you either, but I really don’t get why you’re so scared to confront your feelings. You like her, you like her a lot and it’s so fuckin’ obvious.”
Jeremiah opens his mouth, ready to argue back, but Steven leaves no room for it.
“She literally craves your attention and you’re out here, making out with other girls like she’s not right there. Is this some weird attention grab sort of thing? What, are you trying to make her jealous? This isn’t like you, Jere.”
Steven’s words cut deep. So deep Jeremiah thinks they’ve scarred him, but maybe it’s for the best. No, it’s definitely for the best.
“Think about it,” is the last thing Steven says, before he stands up, giving Jeremiah a reassuring pat on the back, and disappears into the crowd of party-goers within the house.
‧₊˚☆༉‧₊˚.
When you finally feel ready enough to leave the bathroom, you think for a moment about Steven’s words. They kick around in your head. You chuckle to yourself, who knew you’d ever be taking legitimate advice from Steven? But instead of confronting your problems like you should, you pour yourself another drink, turning on your heels as you ascend the glossy white stairs. Whoever’s house this is - in the words of Steven himself - they’re fucking loaded.
The upstairs of the house is empty, albeit a few straggling couples making out in the hallway. You ignore them, noticing the gorgeous open balcony that conjoins to the hallway you’re currently walking down. It’s quiet and empty, a perfect place to spend the rest of the night in peace.
The moon hangs low in the sky now, reflecting off the ocean ahead, and as you step out onto the balcony the cool Summer night’s air bites at your skin.
It's a glorious view for what should’ve been a perfect night. Laughter and music wafts up from the party below, and you let out another regretful sigh, your heart heavy with the weight of unspoken words. As your eyes linger on the ocean, you hear the sound of approaching footsteps. You turn to see Jeremiah standing beside you, and when you look at him, he gives you that sweet smile.
“Hey trouble,” he begins, “you alright?”
You shrug, turning your back to the balcony as you slide your back down the railing, slumping to the floor with your knees tucked under your chin. “Trying to be.”
“Wanna tell me what’s wrong?”
Jeremiah with such a soft voice felt unnatural, and a part of you felt guilty for rendering him so quiet. Silence stretches between both of you like a chasm, as you struggle to find the right words within you to tell him how you truly felt. Instead, Jeremiah fills the silence, his voice hesitant but filled with a quiet determination. “I’m sorry.”
You gave him a perplexed look, “what are you apologising for?”
“For this entire summer,” he says, sitting on the ground next to you as he takes the cool glass from your hands, fingers brushing yours, before he places it on the ground. You tilt your head, curiosity in your eyes as you wait for him to continue.
“I’ve been an asshole. Like, bigtime, and I'm really sorry.” He takes a deep breath, takes your hand in his carefully, softly, like you’re something to be worshipped. To him you are. “And, I… need to tell you something.”
You look up at him, heart racing with anticipation, “what is it?” you all but murmur.
He takes a deep breath, his eyes never leaving yours. “I just-” and when he can’t find the right words, because how is he meant to compress everything he’s ever felt for you into one sentence? It’s impossible. He instead uses his actions.
His hands untangle from yours, grabbing the sides of your face before pulling you into a kiss. He kisses you. He kisses you and the world falls away and there’s nothing but him. At first, you don’t know what to do, it’s all so sudden, but when it finally registers, you want to cry. Not sad tears, and not entirely tears of joy either, tears of relief, tears that carry the weight of all your longing.
When he finally pulls away you’re quick to pull him back, holding him as close as humanly possible as you kiss him with all the fervour you can muster, hoping and praying he can taste the apology on your lips. But when it gets too much, and you need air, you pull away again. He looks at you, and you hold onto the fabric of his shirt tighter because this all feels like a dream.
“She isn’t you.” He murmurs, soft enough it could be carried away by the summer breeze.
“What?” you whisper back, as to not break the sacred quietness.
“She's. Not. You. None of them are, none of them could even dream of being you. They’re not funny like you, not gorgeous like you. They don’t know me like you do - Shit, I sound like a sap.”
You chuckle, “no, please do continue.”
He shoots you that heartstopping grin. “Oh, so you do like it when I flatter you?”
“Love it,” you answer, mirroring his grin.
His features soften for a second, and again, the apologies cascade from his lips. “I’m sorry, for being such an asshole. You deserve so much better than me, I’ve been the worst, and I didn’t mean to make you upset or jealous, I was just… nervous. God, you make me so nervous I do the dumbest shit.”
“I make you nervous?” You can’t help the disbelief in your voice.
“Like you wouldn’t believe.” He says, nothing but sincere. He smiles then, and that makes all of it worthwhile.
You don’t know for how long you manage to get lost in him, but when your thoughts begin to wander, you let the thoughts flow freely from your lips. “Remember when we were ten,” you say, recounting the memory that started this all, “we had snuck out to the beach. We got home so late that night, and we tried to sneak back in, but of course that never works with Susannah. She had said something like-”
“No more sneaking out for the both of you,” Jeremiah continues, “she said we’d had too much fun.”
“But we did it anyway.” You finish, dumbfounded that he remembers that at all. “How do you remember all these things?”
“Because it’s you.” He says it like it’s obvious by now. His pretty blue eyes don’t leave yours for even a second. “I don’t think I’ve loved anyone the way I love you.”
You look at him with that stellar smile he loves so much, but before he can speak, you’re interrupted by the familiar presence of the boy who played cupid.
Steven shakes his head, clear amusement in his eyes. "Finally,” he breathes out, as if it pained him to see the both of you dance around each other all summer. It probably did. His hands are wrapped around a cool glass, it’s empty. “I think this has been quite a night.”
You nod, blissful, turning to meet Jeremiah’s blue eyes. They speak volumes in themselves, a deep ocean blue that sparkles with some form of admiration, you can’t quite figure it out. “Let’s get outta here,” he says, pushing himself off the balcony floor as he extends a hand for you to take, which you do.
Maybe, this summer could be perfect after all.

As the sun began to set and the sky took on a deep orange hue, the party at Nicole's house was in full swing. The air was alive with the sound of laughter, music and the occasional pop of a champagne cork. Y/N takes small measured sips of her drink, stumbling as she hits somebody.
“ow! shit, sorry,” she grimaces, turning, before jumping as she is met with startling brown eyes, gazing at her softly. Steven grins at her easily, balancing her as she sways slightly on her feet.
“easy there tiger,” The nickname rolls off his tongue effortlessly, making shivers dance down Y/N’s  spine as he smirks down at her. She couldn’t deny the inevitable butterflies that arose in her stomach as he touches her cheek.
“You and that supid nickname,” She groans, flicking his forehead affectionately. Steven rubs his forehead, rolling his eyes at the younger Fisher.
“Oh shush, you love it.” She does. More then he would ever know. His attention strays from her as he turns to look at a group of boys calling his name.
“go find belly,” he pushes her forward slightly, watching amusedly as she stumbles.
“I’ll find you later.” Nodding, Steven bids her a goodbye, before dissapearing into the mass of sweaty and grinding bodies. Y/N sighs, attempting to calm her racing heart. It seems to sing in her chest, fluttering and beating with excitement. As she walks onto the dance floor, hands capture her hips, swaying her to the side as hot breath touches her ear.
“What is a pretty girl like you doing alone?” Y/N shifts uncomfortably, turning to meet a very drunk, attractive brunette who hands her a lazy smirk.
“Name’s Ray darling.” He tilts her chin up, inspecting her with a scrutinising eye.
“And you, are stunning.”
“Y/N Fisher,” She mumbles, before attempting to push him away.
“Now if you’ll excuse me,” She wriggles as his grip tightens on her wrist, dark and menacing.
“Darling,” He clicks his tongue conscendingly.
“why in such a rush? You don’t have a boyfriend do you?” He leans in, tracing patterns on Y/N’s bare back as he pulls her flush against him.
“No, listen, I really do got to go,” She says, pushing him back. Ray groans, running a veiny hand throughout his thick, brown curls.
“at least put your number in.” He hands her his phone, tapping his foot as people bump into them, Y/N groaning in disgust as she sees Nicole and Conrad’s tongues intwined. She felt slightly bad for Belly, but she was a bit of a entitled brat sometimes.
“fine.” She replied shortly, tapping in the digits, before walking away. As she ascended the stairs in search for her asian best friend, tapping on the doors as she went. She cringed as moans and unholy sounds filled her ears as she accidently creaked open a door, squeaking as she was met by a brunette’s arching, bare back. Cleansing her mind and eyes, she continued on, knocking and slightly opening doors.
“Belly? Belly!” She called, before stumbling through an open one, smiling as she was met with her blonde best friend making out with a shadowed figure. The two jumped apart almost immediately, Taylor squinting as Y/N shook tipsily.
“Y/N!” She cried, her face creasing guiltily.
“tay tay!” Y/N smiled, shifting her gaze and feeling the happiness seem to melt off her body. The silhouette looked up, the light falling onto his face.
“S-Steven?” Her voice felt small as Steven’s jaw fell open, as he scrambled to the door.
“Y/N!” She swallowed as a sob rose in her throat, sobering instantly.
“I gotta go,” She choked, tears falling down her face as she ducked behind a curtain of hair, exiting the room hurriedly.
“Y/N!” Steven yelled, chasing the running girl as she rushed down the stairs. Pushing through the dancing crowd, she breathed a relieved sigh as she was met with Ray’s drunken gaze. Without any other words, she pulled his head down in a frenzy, meeting his lips forcefully. His lips molded with hers, tasting alcohol as his tongue swirled around hers. Jeremiah’s rendition of summer nights filled the air as she made out with him shamelessly on the dance floor, right in the gaze of the asian. And for the first time, Steven Conklin experienced heartbreak.
It was a tension-filled car ride back, the only sound was the gentle humming of the radio as Steven grunted. Taylor shuffled in the back, fast asleep, makeup smeared across her face. Y/N stared determinedly out the window.
“I’m sorry.” Steven muttered.
“For what? Kissing Taylor or me finding out?” Y/N huffed, her gaze fixated on the passing landscape.
“Don’t be like that,” Steven scoffed, his knuckles turning white as his grip tightened on the wheel, swerving slightly.
“Like what?” She mocked, rolling her eyes. The older conklin, pursed his lips.
“Acting like a brat.” He hissed, ignoring the sharp stabbing in his chest with every word he uttered.
“Well you’re acting like a child!” She yelled suddenly, her glare stormy as she turned towards him. They fell silent for a moment, Taylor barely stirring in the backseat.
“I thought she was you.” He whispered, his lips barely moving.
“What?”
“When I kissed Taylor I thought she was you.”  Y/N heart leapt in her chest, as she reached a hand out.
“steven-” He barely spared her a glance as he exited the car, slamming the car door. Y/N’s lip trembled as she called out weakly with tear-filled eyes. Her chest felt heavy and hot as the summer wind sung against her face.
“Steven!” She stumbled into the house, weeping silently and pathetically, tripping up the stairs.
“Steven wait!” As his bedroom door slammed, shaking the floorboards, Y/N sunk to her knees, sniffing and wiping her nose.
“i-i love you,” But nobody heard, a silent prayer in the wind only the gods would hear.
As Y/N awoke from a restless sleep, she rocked on her feet as she grunted, slipping slightly as she was overcome with nausea. Bile poured from her mouth into the toilet bowl, as she began to cry again softly, wiping her swollen, red eyes. She felt pitiful as she sat on the cold white tiles, her tears spilling onto her shirt and onto the floor. She didn’t move an inch as a knock sounded on the door.
“Hello?” Conrad’s voice echoed through the door, concern tinging his soft tone. The door creaked open woefully as her older brother inspected her curled up, shaking figure.
“Oh Y/N/N,” He murmurs, picking up her limp figure as she stares at him numbly. It feels like old times, her sleepy figure in his arms as she giggles after a movie marathon late into the night. Y/N curls up absent-mindedly, sobs wracking her body.
“I love him, I love him, I love him,” She whispers, as Conrad rubs her back consoldingly.
“I know Y/N/N, I know,” He lays her down on her bed, watching as she simply looked at the plaster above her, mumbling inconherently.
“Sleep well mkay?” He pecks her forehead, before exiting and shutting her bedroom door softly. Y/N’s thoughts are filled of Steven. The way he says her name. The way he would ruffle her hair. The simple ways he would bring her painkiller tablets on her period, or how he would remember just how she likes her coffees. The way he would bring her muffins on early Monday mornings.  The simple ways they would walk on the beach together hand in hand, their matching shell anklets, the sunset on their faces. Steven, Steven, Steven. She shut her eyes. The way his eyes crinkle when he smiles. When he’s nervous he runs a hands though his hair. His favourtie faded spiderman t-shirt that Laurel has told him so many times to throw out. His dream to go to Princeton. Their matching chain bracelets with small heart charms. Steven, Steven, Stev-
She yawned as she slowly began to sit up, rubbing her sore eyes. Y/N took a sip of her water, washing out the sour taste in her mouth. As she began to descend the stairs, memories began to rain down on her. As she touched foot on the bottom floor, and the clatter of cutlery hit her ears, Y/N stalked towards the dining room.
“Y/N dear! Are you okay? Conrad-”
“Mom.” Jeremiah cut her off, smiling softly at Y/N’s messy state.
“Well look who decided to show up.” He reached over to ruffle her hair, before she flinched back. He masked his hurt look with a pleasant smile.
“come, eat.” He pointed to the potato salad and pasta with his fork, patting the seat between him and Belly. Y/N sat uneasily, picking at the pieces of creamy, boiled potato that Conrad plopped on her plate.
“excuse me,”  She didn’t look up as a chair screeched upon the floorboards, and familiar, worn converse stomped past her.
“Steven! Young man, you sit-” The words died on Laurel’s lips as Steven’s footsteps echoed up the stairs. The two mothers seemed to share a look, as if saying ‘teenagers.’
“oh, young love. don’t you remember Laurel?” Susannah sighed dreamily, placing an arm on her best friend’s shoulder. The other woman smiled in response, obviously reminiscing on old memories.
“the good old days,” Y/N poked at her pasta, prodding it with the metal prongs, before clearing her throat and pushing her plate away.
“Uh, I’m not very hungry. I’m going to go too.” She quickly walked upstairs, not glancing back as she heard her mother’s tired sigh. Softly, she padded to the bedroom door to the left of hers. ‘Steven’ was scribbled in red crayon, and taped on the door. She didn’t bother knocking, barging in, watching as he quickly turned away, shielding his red, blotchy face.
“what do you want.”
“we need to talk.” She spoke shortly, not waiting for a response as she plopped down on his bed.
“you’ve said all you need to.” She began to tear up.
“I was drunk Steven. I’m sorry-”
“sorry?!” he turned to face her, his jaw clenched.
“do you know how in love I am with you Y/N? Do you know how much it physically hurt,” He let out a watery laugh, swivelling in his desk chair.
“For you to just spit those words out at me like you-” He pulled on his hair angrily, letting the strands loosely fall onto his cheek.
“like you…hate me,” His voice turned to more vulnerable as he seemed to fold into himself.
“I don’t hate you,” She whispers, inching towards him slightly.
“I’m so in love with you Y/N that I do the dumbest shit when you’re around, and you make my heart go all weird and warm in my chest.” He takes a breath as you wrap your arms around his quivering figure gingerly.
“I love you too…” He sniffles rubbing his nose.
“you’re just saying that.”
“no, I swear, I love you too.” Her eyes begin to feel hot, and they water as she pulls him closer.
“I’ve loved you since we were children Stevie…” Steven cries into her hair, before pulling her back up, pressing his lips against hers. It was slow and magnetic, built up through years of unsaid words and nervous feelings. It was just how she had imagined it. The older boy pulled back, pressing his forehead against hers.
“never leave. swear on it.”
“i promise.”

Tumblr media
It took a lot out of you not to stay in bed the next morning. The softness of your bed wrapped around your body gives you some sort of comfort. But of course, staying in bed would only make you feel worse. At least if you got up it would be easier to fake happiness. To no surprise, your phone was flooded with missed calls and texts from both Steven and Belly. Of course, you only responded to belly telling her that you'll explain your reasoning for ditching your "date" with Steven later.
Why did Steven even bother leaving you so many texts last night? If you were such a bother to him? Annoying. That's what he thinks you are. And what if you never heard those disgusting things he said about you? and went on the date with him? Would he just continue to lead you on?
Steven: waiting for you by the pool.
Steven: ur late
Steven: u look pretty even though i can't even see you. pls im starving
Steven: is belly holding you hostage?
Steven: it's been 18 minutes cmon.
Steven: the guys are going to laugh at me for being stood up I'm getting nervous.
Steven: did something happen are you okay?
Steven: belly is worried as well lmk.
You laughed at the messages blinking back angry tears that threatened to fall. Gosh! he was so fake. You could only imagine how relieved he must have been to not hang out with you.
Belly: have funnnn
Belly: no funny business!!
Belly: wait where did you go?!
Belly: Steven keeps pacing back and forth waiting for u
Belly: what’s going on?
Belly: just let us know ur okay
Belly: y/n ??!?!??
Y/n: hey, something came up last night sorry I had you worried. can u come over?
Belly arrived 20 minutes later. You spent the time together watching reruns of your favorite Disney show. “Do you want to talk about it?” Belly asked after a while, noticing something was bothering you.
“I overheard the guys talking about me last night.” You fiddled with the throw blanket that was on your lap. “At first it was just them teasing Steven about our date or whatever.” You took a deep breath upset that you felt like crying. “But Steven only agreed to hang out with me…” You paused blinking back tears. Belly moved closer immediately pulling you into a hug. “He only agreed to hang out with me…so I could stop annoying him! I honestly don’t know what I did wrong?” You pulled away from belly’s arms wiping your tears that had fallen.
“Maybe I was too forward? but I just wanted to see if he felt the same way…it was dumb.” You shrugged. Belly shook her head “Nope my brother is a fucking idiot!” she stood up taking your hand in hers and pulling you up. “I won’t let you mope around all day because of him!” You sighed “I don’t even have a choice do I?” Belly laughed shaking her head. “What do you say we go to the boardwalk? Taylor’s coming in today too” she smirked.
“And maybe someone would be happy to see you I don’t know” she whispered with a grin. “What are you talking about?” You questioned. “Well you know Xavier..the one that works the lemonade stand?” You nodded your head yes. “Well, he totally has the hots for you.” You cringed at her word choice. “He does not!” You laughed. “Oh, he does! you were too busy ogling my brother last summer you didn’t notice him ogling you.” she poked your side teasingly.
“Now let’s go!”
~
“Stay still before I poke your eye out” Taylor groans finishing up your eyeliner. You were now at the Fisher’s beach house getting ready to go down to the boardwalk. You laugh pulling away “I think that’s enough…if you make my eyeliner any thicker I’d cry!” Taylor playfully pushes your head away. “Sorryyyyy i want to make Xavier fall to his knees when he sees you!” You frown when she brings that name up. Sure, Xavier was a nice guy…and he was cute…but he wasn’t Steven.
You’d always imagined Steven being your first everything. First kiss, first date, first time. It was something you’d dreamt of all this time.
“Yeah…im going to get a snack before we head out do y’all want anything?” You ask heading towards the door. Both girls gave you a sympathetic smile shaking their heads no.
As you reached the kitchen you stopped in your tracks. Steven turned from looking into the fridge. You made eye contact for about 5 seconds before you beelined for the cabinets. “Hey,” Steven broke the silence as you pulled out a granola bar. You felt the warmth of his stare and turned finding him now leaning against the counter. “Hey…” you whispered looking anywhere but his face. “So you gonna tell me what happened last night?” Steven crossed his arms around his chest.
“Just didn’t feel up for it anymore ..” You shrugged nonchalantly. “That’s it?” Steven scoffed. “Yeah…that’s it” you whispered about to walk away. “What’s going on? I’m like so confused right now.” Steven gently gripped your arm. “Nothing just forget it…it’s not like you wanted to go anyways.” you rolled your eyes. “And what makes you think that?” He muttered eyes scouring your face for the truth. “Um, I don’t know let’s see …you quite literally ignored me this entire week!” You responded sarcastically.
“I didn’t mean to. I had a lot of shit on my mind alright?” Steven uttered softly. It almost felt genuine. The words he spoke just last night almost became liquid. “Yeah like what?” You whispered eventually looking into his eyes. “You can tell me..” You spoke gently stepping into him closer. No matter how much he’s hurt you. Steven would always make you melt. “Nothing let’s just forget about it…he pulled away opening up the fridge once again.”
It was like a switch was flipped. How he went right back to that cold shoulder he had been giving you all week. “You're a fucking asshole” You spewed, already ready to walk out of the kitchen. “Where are you going?” He abruptly spoke again. “The boardwalk…you know? so I won’t annoy you here.” With that, you left a confused and remorseful Steven behind.
~
“Hey, look y/n why don’t you go get a lemonade?” Belly suggested with an eyebrow raise. Shit. you were hoping they forgot about that. “Guys I don’t feel up for this..” You pouted looking between both Taylor and Belly. “Noooo go talk to him! you look hot as fuck.” Taylor gently grabbed your face giving you a mini pep talk.
“What if Xavier wants to hang out..I cant just ditch you guys?!?” You were stalling and they knew it. “We’ll be here waiting for you” Belly smiled. “Just try to have fun alright? But hey if you don’t really want to do it …we’ll back off” She narrowed her eyes at Taylor. “No…I’ll go” You laughed giving both of them a hug “Thank you guys.i really appreciate this.” You’d definitely still be moping around in your room about Steven if it wasn’t for Belly and Taylor. They both wished you luck as you headed straight for the lemonade stand.
As soon as he spotted you. The biggest smile spread across his face. “y/n? damn, it’s been so long” Xavier greeted you with a hug. “It’s only been a year!” You playfully ruffled his curly hair that sat atop his head. “That’s way too long…I enjoy seeing pretty girls year-round.” He spoke smoothly, he definitely knew how to talk to girls. “Shut up” You laughed pushing him away with not that much force.
“I have an hour lunch break…you up for arcade games?”
~
“So…you seeing anyone?” Xavier asked as he ate a scoop of his mint chocolate chip ice cream. You thought about it for a moment. Technically no you weren’t seeing anyone. But you knew you were still hung up on Steven. A day at the boardwalk with Xavier wouldn’t change that. “It’s complicated…I guess” Xavier sighed “I've been there…it’s rough” You nodded you were curious as to what he meant but you didn’t want to be nosey.
“Hey, look they have street fighter..” Xavier smirked. “Want to go a couple of rounds?” You nodded immediately pulling him towards the game. “Mhhm loser buys the winner a funnel cake!” You suggested with a chuckle. “Ouuu im so down y/n” Xavier squeezed your hand that held his quickly striding towards the arcade game.
Just two more steps, Just two more steps and you’d be fine. The rowdy yelling completely threw you off. You stopped in place looking behind you where the voices were coming from. You had no time to move out of the way, no time to prevent this from happening. No time to stop the trio of boys that you knew all too well. Suddenly a body collided with Xavier, the force immediately making your intertwined hands lose. “Dude, what the fuck?” Xavier groaned. It was then that you snapped back into reality. Eyes wide when you noticed Xavier’s ice cream now all over his shirt.
“What’s up? how are we doing?” That voice full of humor made you scoff. Steven stood tall a smile on his face. You hated that it kind of made your heart flutter. “Steven, what is your problem?” You gestured towards Xavier’s now ice cream stained shirt. “He’ll be fine y/n it’ll wash out.” Steven laughed, but once he noticed you didn’t find this funny at all he frowned. “I’m sorry man, I just came over to say what’s up..” You ignored Steven’s apology not believing he meant it. “Hey want me to help you get cleaned up?” You asked Xavier voice full of concern.
“No.I got it…I’ll see y’all later.” Xavier spoke nonchalantly as he walked away. When he was out of eyesight you brushed past steven heading out the door.
“Y/n” Steven immediately followed behind you. His long legs make it easier for him to catch up with you. “You embarrassed me” You stopped outside the arcade, letting him pull you to the side. “Embarrassed? sorry to interrupt your little date” Steven scoffed. “It's not a date we were just hanging out, why do you care?” You groaned running your hands down your face. “Maybe because just yesterday you were supposed to hang out with me?” Steven spoke definitively.
“Oh my god, just earlier you agreed to forget about it,” you said with an eye roll. “It was dumb, stop acting like you care just go home Steven I did you a favor.” He shook his head “What are you talking about right now?” Steven pulled you in closer, one of his hands placed on your waist. The other coming to the side of your face, willing you to look at him.
“I heard you.i heard everything,” you spoke up voice hoarse. Steven’s heart carried pain at the tears that stood brimming in your eyes. The realization was clear when he made the connection. “And you know..who cares what Jeremiah and Conrad think! what hurt the most was you.” You shrieked. You hated that you were crying in front of him. You hated that when he hauled you against his chest you felt secure.
“I'm sorry baby... I'm sorry” Steven sounded voice vulnerable. Leaving kisses atop your head. “Why would you say that?” you sobbed breaking down in front of the boy who caused it. “I didn't mean any of it” Steven brought your face between his hands once again. “But you said it..it still fucking hurts Steven.”
You wiped your face getting prepared to pull away and walk back home.
“Wait, please let me talk to you.” Steven begged. “okay” you replied being prepared to cry all over again. “My head has been all fucked up..and that isn't an excuse I know” Steven looked down as if he couldn't construct the next words. “Please don't shut me out.” you pleaded gently. “I want you...i have all this time.” Steve confessed for the first time.
“—And I didn't want to fuck anything up we've..been so close all our lives if I ever messed that up I would never forgive myself.” It's as if you were dreaming, the boy you loved stood in front of you disclosing his feelings for you. “And what? this whole week of you acting cold towards me, were you trying to avoid your feelings?” Steven bobbed his head “Yes, if I lied to myself it would make lying to everyone else easier because the fucking truth is I want you so bad” You didn't tell him but at that moment you forgave him.
“And you called me the annoying one?” You giggled pushing on his chest gently. “Right now we could have been making out on the beach….but noo you had to be a brooding boy” Steven tickled your side, causing you to squirm in his arms. “Yeah, my fault can I kiss you now? been practically wanting to my whole life.” Steven threw his head back fake pouting setting one hand over his chest. You figured you'd throw his words right back at him. “You're so desperately desperate”
Steven smirked “Yeah for you? I am” Those words welcomed a whole lot of beautiful feelings. At that moment is when Steven bent down bringing his lips down onto your own. As your lips moved together, butterflies erupted in your belly. You smiled against his lips when you both needed a breath. “Hey, by the way, your not off the hook.. I'm still sort of pissed at you.” You declared pointing a finger into his chest.
“Yeah, I figured” He laughed wrapping his arms even tighter around you. “How about I make it up to you this whole week? I'm taking you out on dates…ill even get on my knees if I have to. I'm going to follow you around like a puppy.” Steven rambled on. You laughed out loud covering your mouth with your hands. “Oh, it's funny?” Steven raised an eyebrow suggestively. “Yeah, you're such a loser.” You joked.
Before Steven could respond you tugged him into another kiss. Perhaps everything wasn't one hundred percent fixed. But you and Steven were finally here together. You and Steven were finally in each other's arms that's all that mattered. You’d figure out the rest together.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛.
steven conklin x fem!reader
🗯 ! swearing, flirting, mentions sex once if you squint, pretty much a cute lil fluff !
synopsis; after being forced to go to the country club by your mother you realize that maybe the country club isn't so bad and that you'll visit more often. especially if you get to see the cute boy handing out drinks. — ♡ ᵎᵎ
Tumblr media
A bored facial expression had been plastered across your face ever since your mom instructed you to go to the country club located in Cousins. She told you to take something to one of her fellow mom friends who was currently relaxing at the country club's pool. Too busy with whatever she had invested her time to, she texted her friend saying you were going to bring said thing to her. Now here you were trudging yourself through the front doors of the country club, accidentally dragging in a few speckles of sand from the nearby beach that had collected in your flip flops.
You were at point where you just want to get this over with. Technically speaking, you weren't supposed to be here. You were supposed to be with your friends at the beach, swimming in the freezing cold ocean, getting sand stuck in places you'd surely find later. But clearly your mom had other plans for you, instead wanting you to do her chores for her. Who were you to argue though, not like it would've ended well on your part. You'd much rather be a few minutes late than not be allowed to go at all and spend your afternoon cleaning the house.
So now, you're here making your way to the country club pool. As if she has a sixth sense for you, your mom's friend, who was laying in a chair with sunglasses and a large hat on, immediately looks over to you waving you over to her with a big bright smile on her face. You awkwardly fumble over your feet and towards her.
" Oh my goodness! It's so good to see you " She announces pulling you in for a tight hug.
" Yeah, you too! " You speak with a fake smile now on your face.
Once you give her the item she so desperately needs from your mom, you assume you'd be on your merry way to the beach. How horribly wrong you are. She spent the next 20 minutes or so talking to you about anything she could think of in which you replied with short, simple answers hoping she'd get the hint that you want to leave. To your misfortune she did not. The thing or more so person to end her talkative streak with you was when she noticed her son was scurrying towards her with blood dripping out of his nose. You quietly excuse yourself, not caring too much if she had heard you or not. You pull your phone out of your pocket, noting that you were now almost half an hour late from the time you were supposed to be at the beach. As you're about to leave you decide that few more minutes so you could get a drink wouldn't kill your friends and now you're walking over to the bar. Hoping onto one of the stools set up at the bar a boy you hadn't seen here last year swoops around the corner, offering you a cute smile that subconsciously formed butterflies in your stomach.
" So what could I get for a pretty girl like you? " The boy's nervous flirty tone melts your heart ever so slightly and brings a soft red hue to your cheeks.
" Can I just get a coke, please? " You tell him in a hurried voice and as he ducks underneath the bar you lean forward as if you don't want to let him out of your sight, afraid he might leave and you won't see him again.
He pops open the can and sticks a colorful straw in with ease, a gesture that many wouldn't notice but you did as you were often just given the ice cold can, " Since you asked so nicely. "
The smirk that was now forming on his features, as you assume he finally notices the red color of your cheeks, makes your brain go feral at how a man could be so adorable yet so hot at the same time.
You stay seated at the bar for quite awhile, ignoring the buzzing of your phone in your back pocket, probably from your friends. The boy introduced himself to you as Steven and you introduced yourself. For the most part you tried to leave the boy be as you didn't want to be bothersome to his job, but he didn't make you feel that way at all. He dominated the conversation and talked to you more than you talked to him. Some would think that you clearly weren't interested in whatever Steven was talking about or asking you, but he knew better than that by your body language. He watched as you shyly sipped your coke, how you remembered everything he talked about, and how you stared at him through your eyelashes. God, he loved when you did that. It made his heart speed up and he swore their were hearts in his eyes when you would laugh and giggle at one of his jokes, no matter how corny it was. And when you had quietly and sweetly asked Steven for his number, he pointed to the napkin lying underneath your drink. Your eyes widen as you realize a set of numbers with a cute heart was written on the napkin and you had no idea how you didn't notice it before.
With a giggle you say, " Smooth. "
A few minutes to get a drink ended up turning into close to one and half to two hours. You had told your friends that you weren't going to be able to make it to the beach which in your case wasn't a lie.
Here you are now, sitting on the same stool you had been for a over an hour. You watch tentatively as Steven removes his hairnet and offers you his arm in which you gratefully wrap yours around.
" You don't have to walk me home. " You inform him as you guys exit the country club.
" And let a girl as beautiful as yourself walk home by your lonesome, I'd feel far too guilty. Plus, who wouldn't kill to spend more time with someone as lovely as you. " Steven fed you compliment after compliment and it made your increasing crush on him speed up.
You hide your smiley, blushing face into Steven's bicep which causes him to tilt his head more towards you, hoping to be able to see your face. You stare at how close he is through the corner of your eye and you wonder how people could think love and romance is dead when here you were being admired by a boy a you met a few hours ago. He looks at you as if you're a rare type of flower in a field full of common flowers when you've felt like a common flower your entire life. You felt special. He made you fell special.
And as he walks you up the steps to your house you wish your house was farther from the country club. You leave Steven's hold to unlock your front door, but you halt your movements as you hear Steven begin to walk away.
Turning around to be able to see him, you yell, " Steven! "
He spins around on his heels and when you don't say anything he jogs over to you. As much as he was hoping he'd be able to see you again, part of him knew that there were some girls who just liked to flirt and not talk to the guy again. Deep down he didn't really think you were that person, but he didn't want to assume anything too hastily, so when you called out for him it pulled at his heart strings and within seconds was right in front of you.
" Do you think-, " You cut yourself off trying to find the right words, " Would you want to hang out again, like possibly go on a date or something? "
" I would absolutely love to, pretty girl " The mix between the nickname and his whispery voice had your face turning an unnatural shade of red.
You internally gulp not knowing what to do next. Steven was a sweet boy, you hadn't been with many of those so this was partially new to you. You were used to being made out with and then the guy wanting to fuck you.
Seeing as you were clearly nervous and weren't making a move, Steven took this as his moment to shine. He grabs hold of your hands, bringing them to his lips as he flutters his eyes close and presses a sweet, sincere kiss to your knuckles. Your heart stops and you have to stop yourself from fainting right on the spot. Which leads you to unconsciously leave a kiss on his cheek.
Reghistering what you did you sqeauk out a, " See you! " before hiding yourself in the comfort of your own home.
You rush to your room throwing yourself onto your bed letting out fangirl like squeals and giggles from the mere thought of the boy who had just miraculously altered your perceptive on love.
While you kicked your feet in your room, Steven stood awestruck on your front porch lightly touch the place where your lips still lingered. He walked like that all the way home. When he walked in the door he was met by odd looks from Conrad, Jeremiah, Belly, and Laurel while Susannah had a curious smile and a spark of light in her eyes.
" Dude, who gave you the lipgloss mark on your face? " Jeremiah announced what everyone was thinking.
" What? " Confused, Steven takes a peak at himself in the nearby mirror and on the same cheek you had kissed minutes earlier was a clear lipgloss outline of your lips.
Without thinking Steven's eyes soften and a giddy smile is stamped onto his face as he carefully glosses his fingers over the mark.
" Woah...dude, you have to tell me who gave you that kiss. I need to kno who's got my best friend crushing as hard as that, maybe she has friends she can hook me up with, " Jeremiah laughed as he wraps his arm around Steven's shoulder, earning a playful glare from Steven.
Not wanting to talk about it at this very moment and just wanting to replay the moment in his room by himself where he didn't have to worry about teasing. He made his way up the stairs, pulling his phone out of his pocket only to be met with a message from you asking if he'd like to call you. As if his body knew him better than his mind, his pace quickened as he popped into his room, shutting the door and hoping to get privacy as he called you.

A/N Hello sweetheart, thank you so much for your request.
PAIRING Steven Conklin x Fem!Reader
TW/TAGS Friends to lovers, mutual pining, fluff.
SUMMARY You had always loved Steven, sort of like Belly loved Conrad. But you never knew if he felt the same way until you both confessed.
REQUESTS ARE OPEN | STEVEN'S MASTERLIST | MASTERLIST
Jeremiah and Conrad knew how you felt about Steven.
Conrad knew about it first since you used to be closest to him. But then you told Jeremiah, and of course them both started to be the protective brothers that they are, but both didn't cross any limits of your personal life.
You never thought to confess your feelings to Steven because of how Taylor was looking at him or because he was with Shayla. So you better shut up.
Every time you talked to him or spent time alone you couldn't help but get excited and nervous.
Now you understood what Belly felt with your older brother.
He had always been attentive and careful with you. After all you were like his little sister. That was how you thought he saw you.
Conrad knew things, Steven confessed how he felt about you after he broke up with Shayla.
But Steven didn't think you felt the same way about him. He thought you saw him as one of your brothers.
Of course Conrad didn't keep quiet and told Jeremiah, making him promise not to tell anyone.
"Should we intervene?" Jeremiah asked, looking at you and Steven from the kitchen doorway with Conrad standing next to him, both arms crossed. Jeremiah watched his brother deny with a smile.
"No, it's their canon event, let them be." He tapped Jeremiah's shoulder a couple of times to get out of there with him following.
"And that's it, we're done." Steven dusted off his hands, rubbing them together while you looked at the box that both of you had just arranged, since y'all had just arrived to spend the summer in Cousins.
You both looked at each other for a moment and he ran his thumb over your cheek. You frowned, trying to pull his hand away to wipe whatever was on your face, by yourself.
"I have something?" you asked looking at him.
"No, just some dust." he replied still looking at you with a small smile.
Again both remained silent and this time you decided to speak.
"Steven, I..." you started but you saw Jeremiah intending to return to the kitchen, seeing what you were trying to do, he raised his thumbs in approval and left the kitchen. Although you didn't know that he was there listening to everything without being seen.
"I don't know how to start this, it's just that I—"
He interrupted you.
"I like you," You looked at him surprised, you didn't know what to say more than anything because he felt the same as you, and you thought it wasn't like that. "I always liked you but I was afraid that you wouldn't feel the same or that your brothers would kill me or something." He laughed softly, making you laugh too and you looked at him with a smirk.
"I've always liked you too." you murmured with a smile.
"Can I kiss you?" He said looking at your lips and then looking at your eyes. You nodded still smiling.
He leaned down so he could be at your height and be able to stick his lips to yours in a soft kiss, while his hands remained on your waist.
You smiled between the kiss, running your hand over the nape of his neck, caressing the hair that was in the area.
When you began to need the air both parted with a couple of wide smiles.
He cleared his throat, separating from you still with a smile.
"Shall we keep ordering?" he asked to which you nodded unable to speak but still with your heart racing. "I wanted to tell you that if you want we can go eat or something, if you like."
"Like a date?" You questioned and he nodded, making you smile. "Sure, I want to."
"Cool." he agreed with a smile.
"Cool."
After both went on a date, a few weeks, and several dates later, you decided to start a relationship.
And today yoi were going to break the news to the others.
"So," Steven began, clearing his throat and settling back in his chair as everyone ate dinner in the summerhouse dining room.
He looked at you with a smile and you could understand what he was going to do. Both had agreed that that same night you would let everyone know.
"What's happening?" Susannah asked, looking at the two of you.
"Steven and I..."
"We're dating." he finished, smiling looking at each of the members of his family.
"Finally!" Jeremiah exclaimed, Conrad laughed denying and looking at you.
"Congratulations."
"Thank you." You smiled and watched as Susannah got up to walk towards you.
"My love, I knew you were destined for one of the Conklins." She kissed your head and you laughed.
"It's not like we're getting married."
"Still." Steven said with a smile, winking at you.
"It was about time you realized what you both felt for each other." This time it was Belly who spoke and you narrowed your eyes looking at her, with a little smile.
"y/n, Steven, I love you guys, but you're both idiots." Your mother smacked his arm and he looked at her laughing.
"What? It's the truth."
Everyone laughed at Jeremiah's antics and you looked at Steven, he looked at you too and took your hand across the table.
You were finally together after loving him for so long.

───────────────────────────
Ever since I was little, the Conklins would always tell my parents that they were going to take me to Cousins — where I met Jeremiah, Conrad and Susannah. They became my second family, they always treated me right, always included me in everything.
Conrad and Steven was the one that I was close with, It was Conrad, me and Steven. We were inseparable.
As a child, Susannah likes me best when I'm with Conrad, while Laurel always prefers me when I'm with Steven when we're together.
That stopped when me and Conrad got together, we always had something special. Everyone saw that, everyone knew that. It wasn’t official or anything but we did have something. He made me feel special, he made me feel loved. Everyone thought we had something going on, including me.
But no, not until I arrived infront of the beach house. Not until I saw Conrad and Belly, infront of the fireplace — together, naked.
I crashed, my heart broke in so many pieces. I didn’t know if I whether to cry or get mad. My emotions were all over the place. I wanted to go back — go back to my car and just drive off like nothing happened but I can’t, I can’t move — I couldn’t move.
I saw Conrad pull away from Belly, he saw me — our eyes locked, his smile faltered — his face now filled with fear, with panic.
“Fuck. I-It’s not what it looks like. Shit shit shit” He stood up, picking up his clothes. Belly looked at where Conrad was looking, when she noticed me she immediately stood up, grabbing her clothes and putting it back on. Conrad walked towards me trying to reach for me but I pushed him away, I walked back.
My vision were blurry, my eyes filled with tears. He grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him, hugging me. I was disgusted, not just of him but of myself too. Am I not enough?
I shook my head then pushed him away “Y/n please” Belly yelled “No, fuck you! You were my bestfriend!” I pointed at her before walking away from her. I ran outside of the door and walked to my car.
“Please, I-I’m sorry” Belly said, running after me — tears running down her face — her hand trembling, reaching for mine but I pushed it away “Don’t fucking touch me!” I yelled at her.
“Y/n come on, let’s go inside please? It’s too cold out here” Conrad walked towards me, pulling me by the arm. Pulling me towards the house.
“I-I thought we had something special, Conrad. You.. you fucking played me!” I yelled, he stopped walking — he turned to me, his eyes, now gentle. “I-I’m so sorry. I was just so stressed, please.” he looked down, he was crying, he had the fucking audacity to cry.
I pulled my hand away from him, “Sorry? is that all you’re going to say? I know you’re stressed but this is what you fucking do? you fuck my bestfriend? and you’re fucking crying? you’re unbelievable. You’re fucking dead to me, the both of you.” I pointed at him and Belly then I walked towards my car then drove off.
───────────────────────────
As I reached the front of my house, I saw Steven there — with my mom and Laurel.
I hopped out of my car and saw Steven walking towards me — my face still filled with streaks of tears, “Hey, hey what happened huh?” Steven held my face in his hands, caressing my cheeks.
I shook my head, pulling him by the waistt — hugging him. “Oh y/n.” Steven voiced was filled with worry, he doesn’t know what’s wrong, he wanted to help. He rubbed my back and pulled away — watching Conrad’s car arrive.
He walked towards them “Why the fuck are you together? What happened to y/n? What the fuck did you do?!” Steven yelled — walking towards Conrad, grabbing his shirt. His eyes were filled with fury, he had the urge to hurt Conrad.
“Steven stop!” Laurel walked towards them trying to pull Steven away from Conrad. “What happened?” Laurel asked Belly — but Belly looked down, she started crying — she couldn’t even look at her moms eyes, she felt disgusted — guilty.
“Is no one going to fucking speak? can someone tell me what the fuck happened?!” Steven yelled again. He was frustrated, frustrated seeing me cry like this, What could’ve Conrad done to make you cry like this?
It was like there was a light bulb inside Steven’s head because itt all connected. Steven looked at both Conrad and Belly, oh he fucking knows. He knew it, he knew what they did. He knew that it was a wrong decision letting me be with Conrad.
“Y’all fucked huh? you cheated on y/n? is that what it is?!” Steven looked up, he couldn’t even look at Conrad — he couldn’t even look at his own sister, he’s mad — disappointed.
“Steven! Words!” Laurel yelled. Belly couldn’t talk, she was scared of her brother — scared of what he might do, they never saw him get angry like this. Conrad walked towards him “Look dude, we can talk about this inside.” pushing Steven gently towards the door.
“No shut the fuck up, I don’t want to hear anything from you. I’m taking y/n inside, Conrad just go home and you Belly.. mom just take her home.” Steven said pushing Conrad away from him — walking towards me, pulling me against him, guiding me towards the door.
We just sat there in my couch, I cried and I cried and Steven just lets me. He just listened all night, not judging me at all — not asking me questions because he knew. Just thinking about it makes him mad. He wanted to hurt Conrad but he can’t because Conrad was someone who’s still special to me and he didn’t want me to hate him. Steven would die if I did.
───────────────────────────
I woke up with a headache — probably from too much crying. It was now the day after I caught Conrad and Belly. I didn’t want to care anymore, we never really made things official — whatever was going on between us, but it still hurts me — it still hurts me because I thought we really had something going on. But I guess it was just me, because it looked like Conrad had something else in mind.
“Y/n!” I heard someone yell fron outside my window, I got out of my bed and walked towards the window — there he was, Conrad. He was standing outside my house — with flowers in his hands — roses, my favorite ones. “Just go home!” I yelled.
His shoulders slumped, his mouth frowning. Well what did he expect? that it’ll be that easy to take me back? maybe if I was dumb enough I would but no.
“Please, I… I want to talk to you!”
“There’s nothing to talk about Conrad, just go!” I said, about to go back to my bed but I saw Steven come out of his house — walking towards Conrad, grabbing his shoulders — pulling him away.
“Steve please, just let me talk to h-her” Conrad pleaded — pushing Steven’s hands away.
“Look, I think you’ve done enough. Just go home.” Steven said, pushing Conrad towards his his car. “W-what the fuck? why are you acting l-like this?” Conrad said — pushing Steven away. Conrad’s eyes were filled with rage, his face confused — he was confused by Steven’s actions
I immediately went down the stairs and went out of the house to stop Conrad and Steven. “Stop! Calm down!” I said, pushing the both of them away from each other.
I stood infront of Steven, observing Conrad’s features, his face was flushed — he couldn’t talk properly, his hair was disheveled. “Are you out of your mind?! why would you drive here when you’re drunk! Steven please?.” I turned to Steven, he immediately knew what to do — he nodded.
“Come on Conrad.” He said before pushing Conrad towards his car. “Where… where are we going?” Conrad asked —confused.
“Home, come one. Let’s go” Steven said, opening the passenger’s door for Conrad. “But.. y/n” Conrad whined. He’s such a baby when he’s drunk, it’s ridiculous.
“Just go Conrad, talk to me when you’re sober.” I said, looking at him. Conrad looked back at me before following Steven — too dizzy to fight with either of us.
“Okay, left leg first — then right” Steven instructed.
“I know how to get in a fucking car” Conrad said before going inside the passenger seat — head first. I saw Steven scratch his head — annoyed. After Conrad got in, Steven went around and sat at the driver’s seat.
I waved at Steven but Conrad might’ve thought that It was for him so he waved back — he was just too drunk — too out of his mind to even know what’s going on. I just shook my head and went back inside my house.
I didn’t want to care anymore but i’d lie if I didn’t say tht a huge part of me died. It sucks — it’s traumatizing, it’s the biggest heartbreak anyone can feel. I should’ve been smarter — more alert. God I feel so stupid.

HI I'M HERE TO MAKE A REQUEST
I have this idea going around my head for a few days, maybe a crossover outer banks x the summer i turned pretty?
Sooo, the reader is Jeremiah's and Conrad's sister and she has been having a crush on Steven for YEARS, and even tho Steven also had a crush on her but never did anything about it, ANYWAYS.
This happen the same summer that Belly has her debutante thing going on and Jeremiah and Steven had jobs at the club ok? So lets say.... The reader is going every day, Steven knows it, but he doesn't know why or where is she going after a while, at first he thinks she's going to see him.
But actually turns out that, JJ is a waiter there, and they have been hooking up since the first day she got to the vacation house (lets just say her family always got there like three or two weeks before Steven's family)
Maybe Steven sees them together during his break, idk?
I would always chose JJ so he can be the main focus of this but just for funsies i want a Steven regretting he didn't act on his feelings for her♡
LOVE AND REGRET
PAIRINGS. jj x fem reader, steven x fem reader
SUMMARY. you and jj have been hooking up for a while and one day as you were spending time together someone caught you two and it wasn’t pretty.
WARNINGS. nothing really just light making out, angst, and heartbreak
AUTHORS NOTE. this was so fun to do sorry it took so long! hope you enjoy it I kind of switched up the prompt I hope you don't mind ♡ not fully edited
Tumblr media
you had just got out of watching belly’s debutant rehearsal. the debutant was in a few weeks. you didn’t know who was going to be your escort when the time came but you knew you wanted to pick who would go with you by yourself.
your mother, susannah kept pushing that either steven or her friend's son could be your escort but one annoyed you to the point where you wanted to drown in your own pool, and the other…well the other is not an option.
you’d had feelings for steven ever since you’d met him which was when you were little. you guys were childhood best friends because your moms were best friends.
every summer you’d vacation in cousins. every single summer.
you never got tired of it, but you did get tired however of waiting for steven.
you were sure he knew you had feelings for him but he never reciprocated the feelings back. so last summer you made a pledge to yourself. if after a week of vacation, you didn’t get any signal that your feelings were mutual, you’d get over him.
again and again, you waited but when you pushed it another week and got no sign, you knew you had to let him go.
you were hurting yourself more than he could hurt you.
so you busied yourself with other things. you went to the boardwalk with belly, you would get ice cream with some of your friends you knew from the country club your mother was involved with, and you even started going out by yourself.
you learned self-love and learned to be on your own which was a big thing for you.
so while on the usual road trip to cousins you were confident it was going to be a great summer. you weren’t coming in with the mindset that you’d be excited to see steven or be in his presence. you came in with the mindset that you’d be able to treat yourself and have fun.
as soon as you got there your mood skyrocketed. the best feeling was pulling into the driveway or the beach house and taking in the sweet and salty air.
“y/n honey can you help me bring in the groceries please?” your mom asked you. “you both too.” she looked at conrad and jere.
“yeah sure,” you responded getting out of the car and planting both of your feet on the driveway of the beach house. you immediately smiled at the symbolic situation.
my home away from home. you thought to yourself
you took the groceries inside helping susannah sort them out into the cabinets and the fridge and as soon as you were done you grabbed all your belongings and went to your room.
you opened the door with a big smile and placed your duffel bag on the bed and your staircase next to the closer.
you then ran and jumped onto your bed relaxing on the soft comforter. you were always sad you didn’t have the same bed back home.
“y/n! belly’s here!” your mom shouted from downstairs.
your face lit up as you jumped off the bed and sprinted downstairs.
you and belly were always the closest. not only because you were both girls but because you were practically sisters. both the same age, with only a 10-day difference between birthdays. you were bound to be inseparable.
“y/n/n!!” belly shouted as she ran towards you and engulfed you in a hug. “oh my gosh i missed you so much even though we were literally face timing last night.” she laughed.
“i missed you, ten hours is too long.” you pretended to act sad.
“beck.” laurel spoke.
“there’s my girlfriend.” your mom said opening her arms for a hug.
you smiled at laurel and hugged her next knowing who was behind her.
of course, seeing his face made you feel strange but it’s not as bad as all the years before.
“hi steven.” you greeted trying to act as normal as possible.
“hi y/n/n.” he smiled pulling you in for a hug.
he always smelled good.
y/n stop it.
you pulled away quickly trying to come up with something to talk about.
“steven…you should really start working out.” you frowned playfully. “you won’t find a girl in cousins when it feels like i’m hugging a noodle.”
“hey hey hey. i work out.” he rolled his eyes shoving you playfully. “yo wait where’s conrad and jere?”
“they’re-“ before you could finish your sentence conrad and jere jumped from behind him.
“yo what the fuck!?” steven jumped causing his mom to glare at him. “i-i mean fudge. my bad mom.”
“well, look who it is.” jere smiled. “hey bells.”
belly smiled and jumped into jere’s arms “jere!! i missed you so much.”
“oh yeah belly way to show who’s your favorite fisher brother.” conrad said.
i internally rolled my eyes. jealousy is a very interesting look on you conrad.
belly shied away at what conrad said. conrad ended up just messing up the hair on top of her head.
“guys guys guys. i don’t know about you guys but i think it’s time for a….”
“belly flop!!” the boys exclaimed.
you saw as all three of them worked together to carry belly out of the house and assumed to drop her into the pool.
you took this chance to go upstairs and change and get ready to go out into town or the boardwalk.
Tumblr media
“hey mom?” you said as you were walking downstairs.
“yeah baby?” your mom replied from the kitchen.
“can i go to the boardwalk for a little bit?” you sat on one of the stools meeting the counter. you analyzed how your mom was making a charcuterie board of different cheeses. you assumed it was for her and laurel.
“alone? you didn’t wanna stay for girl's movie night? we’re watching la la land.” she smiled trying to convince you.
“i’ll be back by then i promise. pleaseeee” you begged.
“okay fine, also nice outfit i wonder who made you buy half of those fashion staples.” she smiled. you were wearing low-waisted flared jeans that accentuated and flattered your curves and paired it with a square neck flowy white flower patterned shirt.
for jewelry choices, you chose a dainty silver necklace with a pearl as the accent and medium-length thin silver hoops. you then had on your regular silver rings none too chunky and for shoes you chose your Doc Marten sandals.
“thank you, mom. i love you.” you went to kiss your mother on the cheek goodbye.
you then made your way to the front grabbing hold of your white bag you would take to store your stuff.
you brought an extra sweater just in case the sea breeze was a little much, the digital camera that your mom bought you to save memories, your blanket, a towel, a book, and your self-care bag which contained lip gloss, gum, a mini hair brush, a tide pen, eyelash curler, and your wallet.
your outfit: (i love doing this it’s so fun)
Tumblr media
“hey y/n where you going?” you heard a familiar voice call.
it was steven.
“oh i’m just going to the boardwalk.” you waved and started walking off.
“and you’re gonna walk?” he raised his brow.
“yeah, why not.” you laughed nervously.
“you’re not walking, i’ll go with you.” he said grabbing his car keys from his pocket and unlocking the car. “get in.”
“no steven the whole point is to enjoy the walk and-” he interrupted you by putting his finger on your lips. “shhh…now now little y/n/n. you’re not walking end of story. get in let’s go! we’re wasting time.” he said.
it was going to be a long day.
Tumblr media
“let’s go eat.” steven said as he was licking the ice cream he bought. you were also devouring yours, which he bought as well.
“he says after literally inhaling his ice cream.” you narrated his statement.
“what?! a man has got to eat to feed his muscles.” he kissed his bicep.
“and what muscles are we talking about? the muscle memory you have to eat?” you rolled your eyes. “let’s go to that one place what is it called? it’s more on that side of the town though. i forgot what it’s called. it was recommended to me.”
something something nest you think.
“just search it up smart one.” he said swallowing the last bite of his ice cream.
“that’s what i was going to do” you hissed. you went on your phone and looked up restaurants in your area.
the pelican's nest! that’s what it was called!
“found it! let’s go.” you told him walking back toward the parking lot. you climbed in his car sitting in the passenger seat as he climbed into the driver's seat.
“send me the location,” he demanded.
“a please would be nice.” you shot back pressing airdrop to send him the location.
he scoffed. “oh no i’ve been driving you around all day and i bought you ice cream.”
“doesn’t mean you can be a bitch.” you were pretending to be preoccupied on your phone. “and not to mention you quite literally dragged me into your car.”
“oh whatever i did not drag you, i just threatened you.” he smiled.
“oh yeah that’s better!” you sarcastically threw back.
after that, the drive was quiet and not at all long. you just noticed once you got more to the other side of town it was different.
“right here. pull into the parking.” you pointed.
“right alright chill,” he said turning the wheel in that direction.
“well you were gonna miss it.” you snorted.
“no i wasn’t,” he said in a way you could tell he was.
he put the car in park and cut the ignition. then you both got out.
“i’m so hungry let’s go.” steven groaned.
“yeah, i bet. you only ate the whole boardwalk.” you joked. steven shoved you playfully as you both walked inside looking for a table.
once you found one you sat down and looked at the menu. your mouth was watering when you took sight of the wings. your stomach saw it too apparently because it growled.
“looks like i’m not the only one who’s hungry.” steven smiled down at his menu then only moved his eyes to look at you.
you hated how good he looked right now.
“shut up. that’s why you literally look like-”
“hi what can i get you two?” the server spoke.
you knew what exactly you were ordering but you wanted to look for a drink.
“hey can i get the smoked salmon and the shrimp appetizer and oh! also pair that with an unsweetened iced tea,” steven ordered.
“unsweetened iced tea? maniac” you spoke.
the server laughed. a quite attractive laugh, actually.
“perfect and you?” the server then asked you.
“hi, can i get a…” you looked up to look at the server but you were interrupted. not by anyone but by who you saw.
you didn’t know him but he was extremely attractive.
“a…” the server waited starting to smile.
“sorry uh…a- i mean the wings please and then an unsweetened iced tea but can you put two sugar packets inside. thank you…” you bit your lip nervously closing the menu.
“yeah of course, your food will be right out beautiful,” he said walking away.
oh my god.
beautiful? your heart was beating out of your chest.
you didn’t know but steven felt a pang in his chest.
“anyways…that was weird,” he said and then started up a conversation.
you conversed, made jokes and jabs at each other, laughed, and ate but somehow the server was still on your mind.
too bad it was just a one-and-done conversation.
so you thought…
Tumblr media
the next day
gosh, you were sweating.
you were currently at the country club sitting at one of the stools next to the bar area of the pool which wasn’t really a bar but whatever.
you were waiting for a server to give you a beloved icee. you needed it asap.
“yo! jj, you’re on im going on break!” the server who took your order shouted.
but…what about my icee.
“alright man have a fun break.” you heard back.
the voice sounded familiar. way familiar.
“remember, the ladies don’t dig the hair net. ditch it.” the guy told this so-called jj.
he laughed.
that laugh, it made your heart jump. you’ve heard that laugh before.
“icee for y/n?” the server, jj, called.
you paused before speaking now wanting to embarrass yourself. “yeah here.”
you made eye contact with him.
he was way more beautiful up close. his blonde hair flowed with the breeze that was coming in. the light smile he wore.
“you’re the girl from yesterday. the unsweetened iced tea hater,” he said sliding you the icee.
“y-yeah that’s um that’s me haha,” you said back nervously.
“i don’t like unsweetened iced tea either but don’t tell your boyfriend i said that.” he gives another smile.
i cannot let this man think i’m taken.
“my boyfriend…? oh you mean steven. yeah no. he’s not my boyfriend.” you looked down at the slowly melting icee.
“oh really? you guys seemed really close.” he shrugged tapping his fingers on the counter.
“yeah no we’re just really good family friends.” this was really getting awkward.
“so you’re single?” woah not awkward anymore.
“yeah, i am actually. it’s weird i’ve never seen you around here before. do you live in cousins?” you tried making conversation.
“no actually, i uh…” he cleared his throat. “i live sort of across the little marsh area. i just come here for work because i make a lot.”
“oh, that’s smart. well…will you be here all summer?” you tried asking with a flirtatious tone.
you’re sure he picks up on it because he grins pulling his eye contact on my face to the floor.
“will you?” he rose a brow.
“yeah, why not.” you shrugged.
“then yes i will.” as soon as he said those last words that was the beginning of something and you didn’t know what to expect.

july — a month later
“shhh you gotta be quiet.” jj whispered as he was dragging you somewhere.
you tried to stifle your giggles as much as possible while also trying to keep up with him. you tightened your grip on his hand as you ran through the country club halls.
after you and jj had met officially, you were going to the country club every day just to see him.
at first, you guys would just be talking day by day. after the first week you guys started texting; very flirty but also getting to know each other on another level. on the third week he kissed you while you were walking and exploring the club.
on the third week, you guys hit the closet where the country club kept all the party supplies like tablecloths and such. what did you guys do?
kiss. lots of kissing.
and today you expected it to happen again.
jj looked around to check if anyone was around before opening the door and dragging you in.
he closed, locked it, and turned around.
“you’re so beautiful y/n.” he whispered pulling you close and connecting your lips. “can’t get enough of you.”
you kissed back wholeheartedly. you’d really been liking spending time with him. only by knowing him for a short period of time, he’s easily become one of your favorite people to talk to.
“you’re the beautiful one,” you whisper against his lips. his cheeks got redder when he pulled back for a second. he then smiled at you and pulled you in for a harsher kiss causing you to gasp.
you didn’t know how loud you were being until there was a jiggle of the door handle.
“who’s in there?” someone said but not just anyone. steven. it was steven’s voice.
you didn’t know what to do so you stayed silent.
“i’m not dumb i heard you. whoever’s in there come out right now before i call security,” he demanded. oh god. this is not good.
“we gotta go out.” jj said grabbing your hand.
he opened the door and walked you both out.
your head stayed down trying not to make eye contact.
“y/n?” steven said. you looked up and he was paler than usual. “what the fuck?” he looked at jj. you could see the anger that was building up inside him.
“it’s not what it looks like. we weren’t doing anything bad in there.” you quickly defended yourself.
“oh so i’m just supposed to believe that you weren’t fucking a worker.” he seethed. he ran a hand through his hair and paced back and forth.
“we weren’t doing anything i just told you!” your voice rose.
“we really weren’t.” jj spoke up.
“no no, you shut the fuck up.” he cursed at jj. “and you…you are coming with me. let’s go. i’m taking you home.”
“what?! no. i’m not going home with you and you’re not in charge of me.” you shouted standing closer to jj still holding his hand.
“oh yeah? i don’t think his boss would be delighted to hear about this altercation. come with me now.” he warned.
fuck, you didn’t want jj to lose his job.
you looked at jj who didn’t seem intimidated but more like defeat.
“fine.” you spoke to steven while still keeping eye contact with jj. “i’m going to go but i’ll text you.”
he nodded and you didn’t know whether or not to kiss him even though you really wanted to.
you and steven walked out of the building steven striding towards his car at a fast pace. you were annoyed with him. why was he being such a jerk?
you both climbed in the car and for a second you thought he was just going to be quiet the whole time but then he spoke.
“y/n, what the hell. like actually what the hell.” he turned toward you.
“what? am i not allowed to have a boyfriend?” jj wasn’t your boyfriend but he was close.
steven gulped. “so he’s your boyfriend.”
“no but still what gives you the right to order me around and completely embarrass me in front of someone i like.” you defended.
“oh so now you like him.” he emphasized. what was he talking about?
“what are you talking about why are you saying it like that.” you were annoyed.
“oh no nothing it’s not like we’ve liked each other for so long,” he said sarcastically.
we?
“what are you saying right now? we? what do you mean we?” you were trying to understand.
“we as in us as in you and me. y/n i’ve been liking you for a long time now so i don’t understand what you’re doing,” he confessed as if you knew or could tell.
“you…no, you don’t.” you shook your head. you felt the familiar feeling of your throat closing up. you did not want to cry so you tried holding it in.
“yes i have and i still do and you’re over here completely disregarding it?” he questioned. as soon as he said that your emotions changed. you were angry.
you were angry at the fact that he was making you feel bad for how you felt. angry because he didn’t do anything about it sooner. angry because you felt all of the blame was being put on you.
“disregarding it?!” you raised your voice. “steven, i have tried my very fucking hardest not to be fucking heartbroken every time you disregarded me. i know you knew i had the biggest crush on you. for years i’ve admired you and looked up to you and my biggest fucking dream was for you to confess something for me. to reciprocate those feelings back but all i got were comments about girls from back home or…or something to do with ‘oh this girl is so fine’ and i got sick of it. i waited and waited for you to say something but nothing happened. i’m done waiting for you to fess up and i will not be blamed for moving on.” you were crying now. hot tears streaming down your cheeks.
steven was quiet. he knew he was wrong. he knew he took advantage of you and he knew you were right. he couldn’t blame you for moving on when he did nothing about his feelings toward you but make you feel less confident in yourself.
the car was silent. only sniffles and short breaths were being heard. until he broke the silence.
“i’m sorry.” his voice cracked. he regretted not making you his. he regretted not confessing his feelings and he regretted making you cry and he’ll live with that
after a few seconds, you spoke again.
“i hope so because with that i am ready to move on. i don’t want shit to be weird but i’m ready. i can’t keep pining after you. i really like him and i’m sorry if those words bother you but it’s true. i want you to find someone and for the longest time imagining that was one of the hardest things to do but now the thought doesn’t even bother me and i am so proud of that.” your tears were dry and a weight has been lifted off of your chest.
“i understand, i never wanted to hurt you.” he said. “i want you to be happy y/n and if that means pursuing him then i’m happy for you.”
you smiled. “thank you”
“you know i love you right and i want to see you happy?” he told you.
you nodded. “and you know i love you and wanna see you happy?”
“of course.” he grinned.
“crazy. heartbreak and healed all in what? ten minutes?” you laughed.
“sounds about right.” he sighed. “go back. he’s probably freaking out thinking i’m going to get him fired.”
you nodded opening the door. “i’ll see you at home.”
“see you.” he waves.
holy fuck.

steven conklin x reader
a/n: he looks so cute in this gif i’m crying 🩷 i hope you enjoy this, one of my fav tropes :))
the years had passed by so fast, each one leaving lost confessions in the dust. y/n would always regret it, but then new years came around and she promised herself she would say something. then year one passed, and year two.
she didn’t say anything to steven. she only gave small hints and signs, but he never really saw any of them. little did y/n know was that he was doing the same, sending her little messages with his mind and he broke every time she didn’t notice. it was pure oblivion, neither of them seeing the pure love they had for each other.
they lived as friends for too long. the runs on the beach, the bakery trips, the boardwalk dates were still friendly engagements. it was the complete opposite of what they wanted.
y/n had no idea how steven was missing it, even being valedictorian. he was the first to stand up at her sport games, or any of her activities that she did good at. he’d always have the most loving beam on his face when she showed him a good grade she got on a test. and she was the first one on her feet at his graduation.
she helped him practice his speech all the time, over the phone and even some long weekends in person. y/n was always there for steven, through the good times and the bad. when he achieved his goal, or when he lost susannah. she held him while he cried, listened to every agonizing word that left his mouth. he has no clue how to thank her for any of that, as she was the only consistent support system in his life, the constant source of love that he could never be derived of.
she drove hours to his school, sitting right in the audience with his family as he walked up to the podium. each word of his speech left with such grace, being delivered with his class in a mature way. the moment the last word in the paper left his mouth, she was on her feet, clapping her hands together and getting his attention first. his eyes wandered to her, the most alluring smile illuminating the room he was in. he was surrounded by classmates and their families, but suddenly, he and y/n became the only people there. he stepped down, accepting his diploma and making his way out after the graduation ceremony.
y/n pushed through the crowd of people in their blue gowns and caps, trying to find the only one who mattered to her. as she twisted and turned around the people, seeing no one that was remotely close to steven. he noticed her from far away, pulling away from an embrace with his mother and sister, seeing y/n trying to shuffle through the crowds.
his feet started moving toward her before he could even think straight. he just saw her gorgeous face, the one he just wants to love out of the silence. she finally landed her eyes on him, seeing the diploma being handed off to laurel. she started stepping quicker toward him, but it still felt like slow motion.
her heels clicked on the ground outside, trying to contain the wide smile she had on her lips. she was preparing to be there for steven after his graduation, but only as a friend. she so badly wanted more, but she pushed through their friendship with what seemed like ease.
when they finally reached, he pulled her into his arms, lifting her legs off the ground and her knees bent. y/n wrapped her arms around him, softly squealing in his ear about how proud she was, and that his speech was perfect. she started to blabber on about how amazing he is, moments away from spilling her whole heart out on the floor.
he giggles at her words flying out of her mouth at an insane speed, placing his hands on her shoulder and stealing her from her own mind.
“steven, you don’t even understand how good that was!” she rants in the most adorable way. “i don’t know how else to say how proud of you i am!”
“y/n, listen,” he grins, lifting her chin up to look at him, who stands tall over her.
“i’m sorry! i just needed you to know how amazing you are.”
he can only manage to smile back, tilting his head a bit at her. “can i talk now?” he asks, jokingly, as she quiets down to let him talk.
“i just wanted to say, that i’m leaving the stupid steven in high school,” he begins, leaving y/n’s brows and nose to scrunch up.
“huh?”
he places his two fingers back on the tip of her chin, lifting it closer to his face and planting his lips on hers. it felt so natural, as if they could’ve been doing it for years. y/n simply let it happen, the moment she’d been praying for finally happening.
his soft, warm lips touched against her own, the faint taste of mint gum on lips and the strength of his cologne. a weight was lifted off stevens shoulders as he deepened the kiss, the same load being swiped off y/n’s.
when they finally fell back down to earth, y/n smiled against stevens lips, the sweet grin only making him further infatuated with her.
“you’re the only one i want, y/n,” he says. “i can’t hide it anymore.”
“don’t ever hide it again,” y/n replies, reaching up on her toes to peck his lips again. the firework had finally been ignited, and burst beautifully in the brightest colors in the sky.
