I get people not liking Toradora or even not wanting to finish it, but the way it’s become VERY popular online to openly bash it or call it the worst anime romcom is very…… weird
the thing is… Toradora is not a shoujo. the story isn’t meant to be fluffy and perfect. Taiga as a character is EXTREMELY flawed. And I think she’s a little too flawed for the average romcom anime watcher.
Firstly, no I am not defending how she likes to hit Ryuuji, and that behavior in a real life person obviously wouldn’t be ok, but Winry of Fullmetal Alchemist regularly throws a wrench at Ed’s head for comedic effect and I very rarely see that being held against her character. I don’t like it either, but it’s a fairly weak criticism of Taiga specifically since slapstick was pretty par for the course in early 2000s anime comedy.
But other than that, she’s basically just… annoying and mean. And pretty quickly you learn that this is because she’s a spoiled brat who simultaneously lacks both parental guidance and attention. And they address this head on, and she eventually acknowledges this and tries to change it. The way her story arc is handled is actually pretty interesting. Just because the female protagonist isn’t an uwu perfect shy nice girl doesn’t mean it’s a bad love story
I feel like I have way more to say on this but in conclusion if you really couldn’t stand Taiga then Toradora isn’t for you, and that’s ok, but that does not make it objectively bad. There are absolutely aspects of it worth criticizing, but there are also a lot of really interesting story elements with complex exploration of both romantic and familial relationships. It’s definitely worth a watch if you can handle a 16 year old girl being an asshole
#it has its issues for sure#but claiming it’s objectively bad is simply not true#not gonna name names but I see terrible anime get praised on the daily but Toradora is catching strays for no reason#also for the record I LOVE soft fluffy shoujo too#there’s nothing wrong with that genre you just can’t expect every romance show to be like that#also: if you hated it subbed I suggest watching the dub it has a different vibe#Toradora#anime#anime romance#anime critique#disc horse#romcom#taiga aisaka

I have chronic back pain, have for a while. It’s not so bad now that I had surgery, but I lived with it for years. I tried to go to a doctor for it, but they just said to lose weight, so I learned to live with the pain until one morning I couldn’t get up from bed. Couldn’t move without feeling like electricity was running up and down my back, burning my spine and leg from the inside.
This had me back in front of a doctor who (thankfully) listened and then for an entire year my insurance jerked me around requiring that I try different methods to manage the pain before finally agreeing to cover surgery.
In that year leading up to surgery something inside me broke. I couldn’t do the most basic tasks. Having to learn how to move my body in just the right way so that I wouldn’t lock up trying to wipe my own ass is one of my least favorite memories. Next to it is a tie between falling at my sister’s wedding because my leg gave out and being in so much pain I couldn’t sleep for days on end. I couldn’t sit, couldn’t drive, couldn’t bend or twist or even lay down without feeling like my nerves were on fire.
Work accommodated but I felt useless. I couldn’t lift inventory anymore. Couldn’t do a key part of my job that I (oddly) enjoyed doing. Commuting the hour to school twice a week was excruciating, but it was my first year of grad school. I had to push through. My professors were kind, they accommodated so that I could be as comfortable as possible in class. But I felt like a distraction, a nuisance, a bother. It was so hard to focus on lectures and homework when 90% of the input my brain was receiving was that of pain.
I grit my teeth and bore it, my mental health hit a new all time low, and I broke down in front my my mother more times than I can count. And I did this for a year because insurance refused to cover surgery unless I proved to them I needed it. I had to jump through their hoops and play by their rules to get the procedure I needed and that my care team knew I needed. I lost feeling in my leg and foot because they made me wait.
I will forever be grateful for the doctors who listened, for the physical therapist who advocated for me, for my mom who surprisingly became my rock during the whole ordeal. But my insurance company? They can go fuck themselves.
My pain before that year was bad, but not excruciating. My pain now? It’s minimal. Sometimes I still lock up and I’ll likely never have all of the sensation return to my left foot, but I’ll take the constant pins and needles over that year of pain any day. That said, had it gone on much longer I genuinely don’t know if I’d be here typing this.
Anyways…I guess what I’m saying is IF he did it, I get it. I really really get it.
#chronic pain#healthcare#personal ramblings#luigi mangione#don’t even get me started on all the money I spent on the ‘alternative options’ they required#PT and pain injections helped but those providers told me point blank it would not be enough to fix the problem#and guess what! the professionals with degrees were right!#those methods would relieve the pain for a very short amount of time and then it’d come right back!#it’s almost like some asshole at a desk without a medical degree shouldn’t be making decisions about people’s healthcare!#our system is broken#united states#OH AND FOR THE DOCTOR THAT SAID IT WAS CUZ I WAS FAT???#FUCK YOU TOO#I HAD A FUCKING SPINAL INFECTION THAT ATE AT MY DISCS YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE#I DONT REMEMBER YOUR NAME BUT I HOPE YOU LOST YOUR LICENSE#ROT#I WAS 17 WHEN I WENT TO YOU FOR HELP#YOU SHAMED ME INTO NOT GETTING A SECOND OPINION#I WAS 24 WHEN I WOKE UP AND COULDNT MOVE#this post wasn’t about fatphobia in the medical field but fuck it sure could’ve turned into one#I think about that doctor and I get so angry for 17 year old me#you didn’t deserve that#WE DIDNT DESERVE THAT#if he’d just listened maybe it never would’ve gotten so bad later

Ya know I just realized, the fact that in the staged finale c!Dream threatens to kill c!Tubbo because he doesn’t need him and plans on using the discs to control c!Tommy not his best friend c!Tubbo (despite planning to use c!Skeppy to control c!Bad) is pretty screwed up. That to everyone believing the staged finale essentially believes that to control c!Tommy, c!Dream’s best bet is two discs not the living, breathing best friend he already has captured…
#I mean that says it all doesn’t it? that the whole server including tubbo and Tommy agreed that that logic made sense essentially highlights#that the discs - two items - are more important to Tommy then his best friend…. which damn rip tubbo I guess feels bad#c!clingy duo#dsmp#sorry I wasn’t trying to talk about Tommy anymore but like… y’all gave me this brain rot okay… not my fault…#dream smp#staged finale#c!tommyinnit#c!tommy#c!tubbo#dsmpblr#lore thoughts#this is fine#once again I rest my case… still think Tommy cares about people?… I don’t think so.

(this is tagged for it as well, but putting it here: the below involves some non-graphic mention/discussion of suicide in relation to episode 3x78)
I think it's important to keep in mind, regarding the most recent episode, that while Ashton's behavior was extremely dangerous and reckless, it was not suicidal in intent. Ashton thought it would work. They thought that they would fix things, and they ignored all the smart people warning them against it because it would imply a lot of negative things about their parents. That doesn't mean it wasn't an action taken out of a certain lack of self-regard (Ashton's realization of this is what drives much of his conversations in the first half of the episode); but it's much more akin to an accidental overdose, or a drunk/reckless driving, or other dangerous choices. It feels very true to the idea of punk that Taliesin is going for, in which dying young is always very much a possibility, even perhaps an expectation; but not necessarily a goal. Ashton did not expect taking the shard to result in their death, and is incredibly shaken specifically because it did.
With that in mind I think the party's reactions seem very real and very understandable. The fact is, when someone does something very risky and nearly dies (or even is briefly clinically dead, using real-world terms) but ultimately survives it's extremely normal for one of the emotional responses to be anger that they put themselves in such danger. It is not, perhaps, rational, but most emotions aren't. It hurts a lot when someone one is close to does something that harmful to themselves. I don't judge the other members of Bells Hells for expressing those feelings. Frankly, them not expressing similar feelings in the past might very well be why Ashton made the decisions he did: the party lacking trust and walking on eggshells around each other is why he didn't confide in them, and why they fell apart so completely here.
I think it's relevant that Chetney tells Fearne, after stating he likes Ashton, that either she or Ashton can talk to him if they "want out", and he pretty heavily implies that this indicates not just leaving Bells Hells, but suicide, and that he has considered the latter in the past. It's clear that initially Chetney considers that a possible reason for Ashton's actions. He then gives Ashton the "You should leave" speech only after everyone present has been talking at dinner, after Ashton has indicated that he will help find Laudna. It only comes out after Ashton's emotional state is made more clear to him: it's pretty bad, but not actively at risk of self-harm (and indeed, desperately trying to avoid it and to change).
Finally, it's worth considering how important anger is to Ashton. Obviously I don't think having Imogen, FCG, and Chetney yell at them feels good. I also think it's going to feel better than apathy, and more honest than any other option. I don't think a forced gentleness would be better; in fact it might be worse, with them taking a break because clearly Ashton is having a hard time and needs to recover (shades of how Marisha mentioned Laudna feeling like a burden following her resurrection), rather than "we are clearly all in disarray and all have been not dealing with a lot of emotions, and this could have been any of us, and we should all regroup." I mentioned before that ultimately what's important is, angry as they are, Bells Hells undeniably stayed, and FCG and Imogen at least made it clear early on that they would, even if they were angry. Ashton was abandoned in the past by people who weren't even angry, is the thing. I don't think they cared enough to be.
#tw suicide#let me know if you need other tags.#critical role spoilers#critical role#ashton greymoore#truly the flat out stated similarities between ashton and fcg and some people's responses have been. unfortunately enlightening.#some who claimed FCG was going to sacrifice themselves/destroy others in the grand disc and were pretty vile about a hypothetical#are quick to paint ashton in a light so sympathetic it demands no one else feel any emotions#Ashton even states his shittiness about the changebringer was bc he thought this would lead FCG to do...exactly what he did with the titans#really it brings us back to a core question: is it action or is it intent. the answer is both but action matters more.#but also. much more bluntly. some of you have never either fucked up real bad or had a friend do so huh.#this felt extremely true to life; that's really it in the end.

still think that the craziest hate cphil got was ppl thinking "people over items" was bs and something only an immortal would think which is why he needs to try and understand how mortals work better instead of being an asshole and all that
like. what was that, bc it still haunts me in my nightmares. that is a basic human belief i feel like, idk
this is why i always dreaded the ctommy and cphil interactions bc he would always get shit for them no matter what he said lmao
same goes for ctechno tbf, ppl still think he got that "you were using me" belief from nowhere and made himself a victim (when in truth ctommy literally had a whole plan to get him to fight for new lmanburg against cdream and then told techno about it. lol)
#im sorry that ur blorbo had to think about saving his bestie#that is not cphils problem lolol#my boy ctechno knew how ppl perceived him but apparently calling it out is bad bc apparently they didnt see him like that lol#ppl were so defensive about the discs but they literally never did anything good for anyone#especially ctommy. my boy was suffering bc of them plz#rant overrrr

“This is not Evan Buckley this is Buck Diaz” well I’m glad we finally admitted that the fanon interpretation pushed by Certain Members of the 911 Fandom isn’t the character from the show at least.

imo, The Promised Neverland anime didn’t “fall off” it was rocket launched out of this plane of existence
like idk if I’m just being nitpicky but I think the term “fell off” should be reserved for when a show starts to progressively get worse writing, or every new season is less compelling than the previous one
not when an anime completely fumbles the bag and produces one of the worst adaptations of a manga I’ve ever seen, despite following one of the most highly regarded and praised first seasons of a show in recent years. Like it didn’t just “get progressively worse” it completely collapsed in an instant, even though the manga arc it was attempting to adapt was fairly solid and well written
