Researchers at Tel Aviv University have developed a new platform using polymeric nanoparticles to deliver drug pairs to specific cancer types, including skin cancer and breast cancer. The researchers explain that having both drugs arrive at the tumor site together significantly amplifies their therapeutic effects and safety profiles. The research was published in the journal Science Advances.

my mom's friend just had to get skin cancer on her nose removed. they had to take a huge amount of tissue to get it all- so now she's going to have even more pain and expense and stress and trauma with reconstructive surgery
this woman is incredibly sweet. the last time I saw her in person was at my high school graduation party, when she and her husband gave me big hugs and an antique locket. she's also a full-time caregiver for her disabled daughter. I can't imagine what she's going through right now
this is why you should use sun protection. not any anti-aging BS, although if that lights a fire under you, great. you don't have to be scared or obsessive. just take common sense precautions like covering up and/or (preferably And) wearing sunscreen, sitting in the shade if you're outdoors for long periods of time, etc. yes, even if you have dark skin. arguably ESPECIALLY if you have dark skin, because skin cancer tends to go undetected longer on dark complexions and therefore have worse outcomes
nobody deserves to go through this. and she's one of the lucky ones- she's still alive
#skin cancer#sun protection#same thing happened to my grandma but from hard X-rays used as acne treatment in the 1930s. so that's different#my parents on the other hand. both have had several precancerous growths removed and all they ever did was lie out in the sun#Dad had 17 removed at his last dermatologist appointment alone#just. just be careful out there alright?

What I thought was a pimple was not. Had my first Mohs surgery.
Caught it very early thankfully. I had no idea the holes and scars would be that big.

im stoned hang on
cancer??!?!? are you ok!?!?
Yeah! I can't remember if I posted the update. It was in situ, not metastatic, so I had a little surgery so I'll be fine. I'll have a cool scar on my face, I look like I've been duelling.
If I didn't get a skin check I would not be fine. Squamous Cell Carcinoma can be bad. But as it is, I'm ok.

Skin cancer can hit any age. The acquaintance who just died was only 46. It was from melanoma that spread.

PSA reminder that if you are using spray on suncreen, you still NEED to rub it in to make sure you got full coverage of any exposed areas of your skin!
You also need to reapply sunscreen every few hours, especially if you've been swimming or sweating a lot!
Use SPF 30 at bare minimum, but SPF 50 is a much better bet. It's also a good idea to check into the brand you're buying to make sure it's not one of the ones that have been caught lying about their SPF rating.

I don't even know who is still on here, but since I last was here I got diagnosed with skin cancer (melanoma found on the bottom of my foot), had surgery to remove that skin cancer, and turned 31 all within a month
recovery has me pretty much immobilized
and pretty much feeling horrendous emotionally and physically. and feeling horrendous about feeling horrendous.
It also has me rewatching Buffy though so...silver lining?

Hey hey hey- its MELANOMA AWARENESS MONTH!
Put your sunscreen, hat, longsleeve, full coverage bathing suit, etc on!
April 2016 I had a malignant melanoma removed from my back- I still have a significant scar as a reminder. My husband had a melanoma removed a few years after that and we have been vigilant since.
Unfortunately- I had a mole come back after my last visit as a “severely atypical nevi” and had to have a surgical excision( today). These moles or nevi are not ALWAYS cancer or dangerous- but from what I gather, convert easily to melanoma. Given my sordid history with melanoma- the choice was a 2.5cm surgical incision/ removal. I was grateful it was less than the 11cm from the previous melanoma. However- this one is slap dab in the middle of my abdomen. So now, thanks (likely) to my idiotic youth and bikini choices- I will sport- not a cute bikini- but a large surgical incision on my back from 2016 and a medium sized one on my abdomen from today.
Please- be careful. No matter what beautiful skin tone you are- be careful and get SCREENED.
We can PREVENT two cancers- SKIN and COLON. Be smart and screen regularly for both.
(Abdomen from 5/5/23). Back from (4/2016)

Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel told AFP his company's experimental vaccine against melanoma could be available in as little as two years, in what would amount to a landmark step against the most serious form of skin cancer. Globally there were an estimated 325,000 new melanoma cases and 57 ,000 deaths from the disease in 2020. "We think that in some countries the product could be launched under accelerated approval by 2025," he said in an interview.

10th-grader at Woodson High School in Fairfax County, Virginia, as the winner of its Young Scientist Challenge. His prize: $25,000. His accomplishment: inventing a soap that could one day treat and even prevent multiple forms of skin cancer. It may take years before such a product comes to market, but this summer Heman is already spending part of every weekday working in a lab at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, hoping to bring his dream to fruition.
