Stepping off the plane, my heart raced with excitement and anticipation. The air was warm, and the sun shone brightly over Avalon Airport, but it wasn't just the weather making me feel this way. It was the thought of seeing Ryder again. Memories of our time together on "Too Hot to Handle" were still fresh in my mind-our electric chemistry, shared laughter, and the intense moments of connection that made my heart skip a beat.

As I made my way through the bustling terminal, my eyes scanned the crowd for a familiar face. Then I saw him— Ryder, with his easy smile and piercing brown eyes, standing tall among the throng of people. He started grinning as soon as he saw me, and I felt a rush of excitement bubble inside me that made me forget all the fatigue from my long flight. Fuck, I missed him. And it had only been a week since the show ended and we'd been apart.

"Jas, baby!" he called out, striding toward me with that confident effortlessness that had first drawn me to him. For the first time, I saw the effect he had on people, particularly women, outside the villa. The way they looked after him... and I couldn't even blame them.

"Ryder!" I exclaimed, squealing and running the last few steps. I dropped my bag to throw my arms around him.

Almost instantly, I smelled his familiar cologne scent and felt comforted.

He immediately wrapped me in a warm, strong hug, and for a moment, the rest of the world faded away. His hands wandered down to my lower hip where he jokingly squeezed the flesh under my biker shorts. I grinned cheekily into his chest.

"Damn, baby," he murmured into my hair, his voice a comforting rumble. "I missed my hands on you."

I laughed softly and slapped his back jokingly. "Is that the only thing you missed?"

I could almost feel his smirk as he shrugged nonchalantly. "I admit that I missed you a lot. Is that bad? How was your flight?"

I giggled at the change of topic. "Long, but worth it," I replied, pulling back slightly to look up at him. "I've been looking forward to this all week." For a short moment, I saw a soft sparkle in his eyes before he acted all cool again. But he couldn't fool me. My hands glided from his back to his chest where I touched him gently and felt him tense under my touch.

"Me too," he said, his eyes shining with sincerity and a hint of longing, never leaving mine before he captured my mouth with his and kissed me fiercely. Mhmm, so he wasn't afraid of PDA. I smiled against his lips and wrapped my arms around his waist again, to be closer to him. A few seconds later, which felt more like ten minutes, he let go of me and pressed his forehead against mine. His hot breath touched my face as he whispered, "Crikey, l've missed that taste." I just smiled at him before he spoke again. "Come on, l've got a surprise for you." He took my hand, and it felt so natural that I almost forgot this was the first time we were out in public together.

My curiosity was piqued as Ryder led me out to the parking lot. When we reached his motorcycle-a sleek, black machine that looked both powerful and elegant-my eyes widened in surprise.

"So that's your other girlfriend?" I asked, grinning. I walked around the bike and let my fingers wander over the smooth metal.

He laughed and shrugged. "Thought I'd give you a proper Aussie welcome," he said with a wink. "Ever been on a bike before?"

"No, but l've always wanted to," | admitted, feeling a thrill of excitement rush through my body.

"Well, today's your lucky day, love," Ryder said, coming my way to strap a helmet on my head and secure it. "Hop on, and I'll show you around Lorne. It's not too far from here, and the scenery is incredible."

I nodded, feeling exhilarated as I climbed onto the back of the motorcycle, wrapping my arms around Ryder's waist. Ryder took my hand and pressed a soft kiss on my knuckles and flipped down his helmet. Shortly after, I felt the engine roar to life beneath me, and we took off down the road, the wind whipping through my hair.

The ride to Lorne was breathtaking.

We sped along winding coastal roads, with stunning views of the ocean on one side and lush forests on the other. I felt a sense of freedom and exhilaration that I had never experienced before. No wonder Ryder loved this lifestyle. It was something else, really. I tightened my grip on Ryder, pressing close to him and feeling the solid warmth of his body against mine.

After a while, Ryder pulled over at a scenic lookout point. We dismounted, and I took a moment to drink in the view.

The ocean stretched out before us, its turquoise waves crashing against the rugged cliffs in a symphony of sound. The air was filled with the scent of salt and eucalyptus, and the sky was a brilliant shade of blue.

"It's beautiful," I said, turning to Ryder with a genuine, grateful smile.

"Yeah, it is," he agreed, but his eyes were on me, not the view. When I realized, my cheeks started to heat, and that made him grin before he wrapped his arms around me and plastered the back of my neck with soft kisses.

We walked down a path that led to a secluded beach, the sand warm beneath our feet. Ryder spread out a blanket, and we lay down together, listening to the waves and the calls of seabirds. I couldn't believe how clear the water was-almost clearer than the villa's. How was that even possible? I was speechless at the beautiful scenery before me.

"This place is special to me," Ryder said quietly, taking my hand into his and playing with my fingers gently. "I've been coming here since I was a kid. It's where I go to think, to clear my head."

"I can see why," I said, intertwining our fingers. "It's peaceful." For a while, we lay there in silence, watching the sun start to dip toward the horizon.

As the sky turned shades of pink and orange, Ryder looked at me, his expression serious as he tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. "I'm really glad you're here, Jasmine. I know things were complicated on the show, but l meant what I said. I want this to be it. With you."

I felt a flutter in my chest and buried my head in the blanket, a happy squeal almost escaping my mouth. When I lifted my head again, I smiled at him. I had been thinking the same thing, but hearing Ryder say it out loud made it more real and gave me the reassurance that he hadn't changed his mind on the outside. "I want that too, Ryder," I said softly. "I've been thinking about us a lot since the show ended. I feel like we have something special.“

He smirked, but then a slow, genuine smile spread across his lips, and I felt it in that moment. Yeah, my poor heart melted. "I feel the same way, Jas. I know it won't be easy, with the distance and everything, but I'm Willing to try if you are."

I had to smile sadly. I knew how his last long-distance relationship ended and how much it broke him. So the fact that he was willing to try it for me was a big surprise, honestly.

"But...I really don't think I can do long-distance with you," I said, smirking and leaning even closer.

Ryder cupped my cheek, his thumb brushing gently over my skin and then over my lips. "What are you trying to say, love?" he whispered. My eyes turned serious again for a second when I looked into his desperate eyes. "I want to live near you... or scratch that. I want to wake up next to you every day and, most importantly," I said, biting my lip mischievously as I leaned forward and whispered in his ear seductively, "I want to bend over for you to take me whenever you want to."

I felt him visibly tense under my breath, and I pulled back slowly, but then he grabbed my thigh, pulling me even closer to him, and my leg wrapped around his side while he caressed the exposed skin under my shorts.

"That filthy mouth of yours will get me in much more trouble on the outside than with that cone-blocker in the villa," he whispered hoarsely and then he kissed me. My hands wrapped around his neck immediately as he sucked on my bottom lip and then slid his tongue inside my mouth, exploring every inch, and I felt myself getting heated. Leaning further into the kiss to feel him deeper, my fingers pulled on his hair roughly and I used the wrapped leg around his hip as an excuse to fully straddle him. I did that by pushing Ryder to the side so that he lay on his back, then bent down to keep kissing him. His hands immediately found the hem of my shorts and glided under them, massaging my ass gently, and he grinned against my lips. "I am at your mercy, Jas."

The Best Album Per Year for Sixty Years

No-one asked for it, of course, but I do like making lists, so here's me pondering what have been the best Long Players in the album artform the past 60 years. I originally tried to keep it to just one per year, but many years that proved impossible: when listing multiple albums I have tried ranking them with the one I feel narrowly edges out the others first, and I use lower case to indicate an album that is not at the same level as others on the list but was the best I've heard from that time.

Chapter 18: Capturing the Traitors

(At Avalon Park, Tikki grows disturbed.)

TIKKI: Marinette! I felt a negative aura. Adrien’s in danger!

MARINETTE: Wait. I didn’t tell my new friends about the news! They’re probably after Adrien again! No time to lose!

(She takes out the flight magicaroon and feeds it to Tikki.)

MARINETTE: Power up!

(Tikki’s wings and antennae turn blue.)

TIKKI: Space Tikki!

MARINETTE: Spots on!

(She transforms into Cosmo-Bug and flies off. At the mob circle, several of Zeta’s eagle soldiers drop campfire logs. Frank nervously lights a match and sets them on fire.)

LUNA-TK: This will teach you not to betray the people you pretend to care about!

ADRIEN: Wait. I can get Marinette on the line!

(Adrien attempts to call Marinette.)

MARINETTE’S VOICEMAIL: It’s Marinette. Leave a message. Beep! He-he!

(He looks up nervously.)

SAM: Rope them!

MABEL: Cage them!

(The mob closes in.)

ADRIEN: Marinette, I don’t know if you can hear me, but you forgot to tell your new friends about Lila, and they sentenced us to death.

(Flying over Eight at East Apartments, Cosmo-Bug eyes her yo-yo and locates Adrien.)

LADYBUG: Florida Mall parking lot. Hang on, Adrien.

(Meanwhile, the Minions toss a huge net over the group. Standing on the cage, the Trolls wrap their hair, Growly Pete his mustache, around the group’s wrists, ankles, and necks, then the Minions start to drag them backward with the net’s ropes.)

ADRIEN: You need to answer eventually, or we’ll all be destroyed!

(A long way down the highway, Cosmo-Bug flies past the Arepa Station. The humidity starts to make her sweat and run out of breath. Fighting against the restraints, Adrien tries to call Marinette again. The Wolf pups and assist by scratching and snapping them.)

ADRIEN: Come on.

MARINETTE’S VOICEMAIL: It’s Marinette. Leave a message. Beep! He-he!

ADRIEN: Come on, Marinette. Answer.

(The Minions and Trolls continue to drag the group toward the cage.)

ADRIEN: (STRAINING) I’ll never give in!

(The group shoots forward, tripping the Minions, but it doesn’t last long as they quickly regain control of the ropes.)

ADRIEN: What could you possibly be doing that you can’t pick up right now?

(Cosmo-Bug now huffs and puffs past Orlando International Airport.)

LADYBUG: I… can’t… stop. No… matter… what.

(The group continues trying and failing to resist their restraints.)

(At the back, Tom squeezes Henry the Minion against the rear of the cage. As the Trolls attempt to close it, the door bonks Adrien’s head.)

ADRIEN: Hey, there’s a limit.

(Meanwhile, Cosmo-Bug stops and struggles to catch her breath.)

COSMO-BUG: (DEHYDRATED) Okay. I need to get a water for the road.

(Meanwhile, the caged captives suffer abuse from the Crossover Characters. The Wolf Pups poke at them with spears. The Minions strangle them through the narrow openings. The Royal Woods and Great Lakes City students electrocute them with tasers.)

(Cosmo-Bug stops at a 7-Eleven off the airport highway exit and de-transforms. Now as Marinette, she goes to the fridges in the back and picks out a 20-ounce Aquafina bottle. At the front, she attempts to swipe her card at the pin pad, but it reads, “NOT ACCEPTED”.)

MARINETTE: Come on.

(She tries more times, faster, then slower, but still gets the same result each time.)

MARINETTE: Fine. I’ll pay with cash.

(She passes the cashier five dollars. Later, she leaves and continues flying. Meanwhile, Adrien struggles to make another attempt at escaping, but is yanked backwards by the Minions. The Trolls manage to lower the cage opening, then Terence and Brick hold it closed.)

(Walking over, Luna-TK receives the lucky charm from Branch, who had dug into Adrien’s bag, then walks away.)

ADRIEN: You’re making a mistake.

LUNA-TK: Who’s ready to watch the traitors perish?

(Everyone cheers. Meanwhile, a rehydrated Cosmo-Bug flies over Oceaneering Entertainment Systems. She hears the commotion in the Florida Mall parking lot ahead. In the cage, Adrien watches helplessly as Luna-TK puts her hand over the strengthening campfire.)

ADRIEN: No!

(Cosmo-Bug flies toward the mob and watches Luna-TK drop the charm.)

ADRIEN: No!

(Cosmo-Bug extends her yo-yo and catches the charm just before it falls in. The mob notices her as she lands and storms over to them.)

COSMO-BUG: What are you guys doing?!

LUNA-TK: We were about to burn the traitors’ good luck away and then kill them so that they wouldn’t…

COSMO-BUG: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Kill them? Spots off.

(She de-transforms, shocking the travel group.)

MARINETTE: I wanted them sent back to Paris, not murdered!

(Terence and Brick release the cage. The Minions do the same with the ropes, then lift the cage door open, releasing the travel group.)

MARINETTE: “Lila Rossi’s reign over Paris continues to grow. Ladybug and Cat Noir nowhere to be seen to stop her.” I know they’ve wronged me in plenty of ways, but torture and murder is not the answer. We have to go back to Paris and take the city back.

(Everyone looks at each other.)

LUNA-TK: Okay. We’ll follow your lead.

(Marinette looks up at Luna-TK.)

While I said in a previous post, I'd talk about my trip to Israel, I feel it's necessary to dive into issues when it comes to aspects of the Pro-Palestinian movement. So consider this as me swapping around parts 2 and 3.

While a majority of people in the movement are in it with the best of intentions, it shouldn't be ignored that there are those within it that are there for less then pure reasons. For starters, while not as prevalent as in the Pro-Israel, there have been neo-Nazis who have decided that their islamophobia and Arab-based xenophobia is secondary to their hatred of Jewish people.

I re-posted a video before talking about the subject so I will re-blog it after this is posted. In summary, it's how genuine anger towards the Likud led government of Israel is co-opted in certain circles to sneak in classic antisemitic talking points, such as Jewish people controlling the media, that the Jewish Diaspora and Israel are to be conflated with one another, by both antisemites, and extreme Zionists.

this goes into my next point, that there are those who proclaim support for Palestine, yet downplay the religious, ethnic and historical connections Jewish people have to the region in order to justify their own viewpoints, that extend to a denial of any nation-state representation. While I'm more for unity unless under certain circumstances, unfortunately, we live in a post-Balfour world, so we deal with the cards dealt. However, I digress.

Back to the matter of weaponized Pro-Palestinian elements. A trend I notice with far too much frequency in posts proclaiming Pro-Palestine is "Death to Israel" or referring to Israel as "IsNotReal" or "Israhell". This isn't even with any effort on my part, but seems to be baked into elements of the Pro-Palestine fringe. This is troubling given the above mentioned conflation of Jews and Israel. It seems downright hypocritical for people like this profess a desire to recognize Palestinian statehood, which it rightfully deserves and is now receiving, while denying Israel's own existence. While Likad propaganda isn't exactly in short supply on social media ,see the litany of porn bots on Tumblr and Twitter, there has also been enough disinformation from people who support Palestine that it should raise eyebrows. For example, footage of people in Ben Gurion Airport which was used to proclaim that people were fleeing back to places like the United States and that they were settlers, when in reality it was people returning home from Passover celebrations. However, it's not only those on the far-right that are spreading falsehoods. There are those in left-wing circles that ascribe to a "West = bad" mentality. While this isn't entirely wrong, as Western governments, including and especially the United States, have used their power for their own selfish interests, the views of Tankies are so black and white, that it borders on pure brain rot. This especially is apparent in their contrasting feelings when it comes to places like China and Russia compared to Israel. Each is currently enacting genocide, with China's CCP against the Uyghur people, Russia's Putin against the Russian queer population and the people of Ukraine, and of course Israel's Likud government on the Palestinians. However, while Tankies are quick to decry Israeli crimes, they remain slavishly loyal and excusatory about the crimes of Russia and China because they aren't "western powers" (looking at you, Hasanabi. Check out Lonerbox's videos on him and his Russian dick riding), which basically results in cutting your nose to spite your face, or in this case supporting one group of authoritarians to spite another group of authoritarians. Thus it extends to apologia towards Hamas and the actions of Palestinian groups both past and present, that used outright terrorism to get what they wanted. If these same people support Palestinian independence while preciously saying that Ukraine should kowtow to Russia's own territorial invasions, turn and run for the hills.

Which brings me to Hamas and previous Palestinian leaderships. Oh God, where do I even start. Firstly, I should clarify that I believe that armed resistance isn't an inherently bad thing. There are times where it's the only solution remaining. However, what you do with it can still be judged, and in this case, Palestinian "liberation" groups have shown a far too common trend of targeting civilian populations such as what happened on Oct.7th. It would be one thing if it was on military or government spaces, yet these actions on civilians screams of utter cowardice on the parts of Hamas. While both the IDF and Hamas have done these things, I've only noticed the IDF being called out, and although their blatant disregard for life should be decried, it's troubling how identical behavior by Hamas and other Palestinian leadership has been swept under the rug for the sake of "support". Hamas has its origins in the Muslim Brotherhood which is a very ultra-orthodox sect of Islam that has multiple bigoted aspects to it which include antisemitism, which Hamas inherited from its parent movement after separating, that wasn't "officially" removed until 2017 (I have their manifesto linked above twice just to be sure of any inconstancies given these are translations.). As for previous incidents, the Munich terrorist attack of 1972, where a combined group of the Palestinian extremist group Black September alongside West German Neo-Nazis killed eleven Israeli Olympics athletes and coaches. While it has been weaponized for darker purposes, it should be noted that while the Palestinian factions had every right to be upset by the destruction of their communities which was what led to this event, their way of dealing with it was horrifically misplaced.

For those who say that Hamas doesn't represent all Palestinians, then you are correct. They don't. They were elected in 2006 before a large portion of Palestine's current population were even born, and yet here they must suffer because the leaders they never elected, chose to break a ceasefire and murder 1,200 people and kidnap 240 more, that opened the gates of Hell upon them from an equally genocidal government with a trigger happy military, and a civilian population primed by 2,000 years of exile and (understandable) generational trauma at the hands of multiple countries and empires, mixed with propaganda and exposure to only the worst of Palestinian society in the form of terrorism to explode in anger with zero consideration for the innocent. That being said, there are Israelis and Jews who support Palestinian struggles that also point out that the Likud don't represent them either, yet those of bad faith are willing to blind themselves to this fact.

This went on longer then I meant it to, if I'm being honest. I wish this was more put together, but this was something I feel I needed to talk about. Still, for those wishing to learn more, I've linked to other sources that are more articulate. For now, I leave it here. Next time, I will get to my critiques of Israel outside of its "relationship" with Palestine.

I just want this to end. I want things to heal. All we can do is take action however we can, and cling onto hope for those who are gone, and those who continue on.

Catalina Island - Airport Loop

7 February 2023

Today’s ride was only 5 miles longer than my ride three days ago in Long Beach (30 miles away and visible from here), but what a completely different ride! Lots of climbing. Remote gravel roads with no vehicles and spectacular views of the ocean. And the touristy charm of Avalon itself.

There were two big climbs, and two big descents. The climb out of Avalon on Stage Road was tough, but amazing. It took about an hour for me to climb the three steep miles to the 1500’ crest. The paved road to the airport was rolling with great views back towards LA and the snow-capped San Gabriels and San Bernardinos. I made it to the airport in about two hours and stopped at the little cafe to recover and top off my water bottle.

The descent down Rancho Escondido towards the ocean was wonderful, though the road was washboarded in places and there were rutted sections from January’s rains. The long climb up Middle Ranch Road was gradual, except for a steep pitch at the top before regaining the divide. And then it was an incredible downhill back into Avalon, with hands on the brakes the whole way.

Along the way I saw a fox, a couple of jeep tours, and one small bison herd. Fortunately, they were well off the road. Apparently (I haven’t been able to confirm this story), a cyclist encountered a bison a couple of weeks ago and had to get helicoptered to the mainland!

There was plenty of evidence of the heavy rains in January. Running water, including some streams flowing across the road. Washouts and ruts and debris and recently cleared roads. And everything was green!

I rode out of Avalon a little after 7:30. I was back in town by 1:00. This was a great ride, but required some work! It would be fun to turn this into a multi-day bikepacking trip - camping at Little Harbor and maybe adding a trip out to Two Harbors. There are some good accounts online, including this one at Gravelstoke.

Yesterday, I rode a much shorter loop out of Avalon. It’s sort of a standard golf cart loop, but was a great introduction on a bike.

misc: we almost made it a whole two weeks without getting into an argument with my mom.....literally on the drive to the airport something popped off and now i am stressed and sad :") like it's. fine. it will be fine there will not be any lingering angst about it. i just wish this didn't keep happening. my flight back to my apartment is in one hour so i just gotta make it there and then i can collapse. and see my cat !!! i am so excited to see my little girl.
