“average Bad Kid has 1 alive dad” factoid is actually just statistical error. Fathers Fig, who lives in haunted house & has 3 dads, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Am I the only one that feels like NTs HATE saying 'I don't know.'
You will not believe the amount of times I'll ask a basic objective question about a situation and they'll give me an answer, only for later the answer to be completely wrong. And then when I ask them why they would give me wrong information - they say 'I just guessed.'
I didn't ask you for your guess. I asked for the information. If you didn't have the information don't just GUESS. Say 'I don't know.'
I feel like NT don't realize that WRONG information is worse than no information.
If I want to know when an event will end and you say '5pm' - I'm going to be mentally prepared for 5pm. And if it DOESN'T end then, not only will I be out of energy, but I'll be irritated and confused because I'm in an unfamiliar situation with NO INFORMATION
Had you just told me 'I don't know what time it ends' instead of GUESSING 5, then I would've prepared for the worse. But now I have to literally rearrange everything in my head and talk myself down from meltdown cause I was given inaccurate information and also I thought I was going home.
But they act instead like saying I don't know is a moral failure.
My father used to yell at me all the time to not say 'I don't know.'
He'd always demand I figure it out and come up with SOMETHING no matter how uninformed or vague and that's how you have NTs walking around feeling like it's a crime to admit they simply don't know something
and instead they'll just shamble something together and hope that's good enough regardless of whether in the information is actually helpful or correct.
IT'S SO ANNOYING. JUST SAY YOU DON'T KNOW.
Stop guessing and giving me WRONG information because it only makes the situation worse and more confusing. Say you don't KNOW. It's FINE.

Okay, I know the lily orchard vid about Sheldon is old
But I showed my autistic friend her video about it and thought you would like to hear his notes about the video.
The speaker is not autistic, nor do they let a person who actually is autistic speak on the matter.
References opinions of people who are not autistic while addressing the issue.
Says many people she knows use Sheldon as a reference for "basic traits of autism". Does not name any of the people individually. References no specific person.
Additionally, claims that since a lot of people do this, it is correct.
Claims that there is a "common root symptom of autism". This is incorrect. All autistic people are very different.
Compares autism to racism.
Uses the comparison of misoginist and racist tropes from an out of date show.
Uses "people with autism" rather than "autistic people".
Fails to show Sheldon Cooper's abusive and controlling nature.
Uses Autism Speaks as a reference for information about autism.
Both the show and speaker infantilize Sheldon and autistic people.
Says that Sheldon acts similarly to young autistic children.
Feels like the show is making a laughingstock out of a disability; this is not addressed.
Claims that people don't want accurate/useful representation, then does all of the above.
9:17 - Makes a good point about overloading a single character with all autistic traits.
Claims that if you're watching a show about autism, you already know the basics. Blatantly untrue.
Claims that the hero's journey is a sign of autism. More precisely, claims that Rainbow Dash, Sheldon, and the guy from Atypical are good representations because they all make social mistakes and grow from them. This is EVERY CHARACTER EVER, not just autistic characters.
Claims hating Autism Speaks means you are uneducated and lazy.
Very victim-blamey.
Claims that people who don't like this trope don't want to better themselves.
Overall, she is very victim blamey, obnoxious, and unsympathetic.

Maladaptive daydreaming.
#daydreaming#maladaptive daydreaming#maladapting daydreaming disorder#maladaptive behaviors#maladaptive coping#dissociation#immersive daydreaming#dimond speaks#yeah so adding this to my list here lol#my therapist helped me realize i dissociate a LOT and the primary way i do it is through vivid daydreams#they usually happen at work but they also pop up if i'm having a bad day or... anytime really.#i've also come to the realization that i have at least one of these a day which is not good fgsjh#my therapist says they're not inherently bad especially since they do have a positive effect on my emotions (if its a good daydream)#but it's gotten to the point that it's affecting the way i work#and they can last for a LONG time too#i haven't timed them but i do know they've been over 30 minutes at work before#this is either due to ADHD autism PTSD or a mixture of the three lmao#weeeee#anyway. this post isn't really intended to be a vent post#it's more like a 'this is my experience' type post#it just kinda comes across as somewhat vent-y#but that was because i wanted to try and immerse the reader into what its like to have these daydreams#like mine look NOTHING like this but making it more generic would help others understand it#the void is the general dissociation from reality#then you emerge in the dream#i can feel things as if i'm there- the sun the wind and sometimes even physical touch#and i'll stay there until something snaps me out#strangely i can get my work done while i'm doing this- i just wont have any memory of doing so. it's like being on autopilot#anyway. I hope this post was helpful to someone out there#if you also maladaptive daydream YOU ARE NOT ALONE! it's valid and you're not 'faking' anything. it's a genuine trauma response.

as far as i'm concerned the statements 'autism is a disability and that results in struggles and difficulties in life' and 'autism is a part of what makes me me and i find there are many positives that have come from being autistic' can both be true and coexist

On the topic, I think Rise does a wonderful job of displaying the sensory needs of neurodiverse characters because they don't limit them to one extreme or the other; another reason why their portrayal is so wonderful.
Donnie probably shows the most examples of this range, for obvious reasons. He doesn't like unexpected stimuli—and that can be something as small as unexpected touch. He has a preference for his flavorless juice. His lab, from what I've been able to glean, appears to be lit mostly from the glow of his computer screens or his tech. Otherwise it's usually kept rather dark.
On the other hand, Donnie loves noise (as long as he's in control of it, of course). He blasts techno music until it's impossible to talk without shouting. He falls asleep to Shelldon's affirmations: also absolutely blaring.
As for Mikey, this one's a lot more speculative lolol. We see a lot of examples of him seeking out sensory throughout the series, the most memorable for me personally being when the boys are interrogating Warren Stone and he's just. Playing with absolutely everything on the playground, rapidly switching from one thing to the next. But for someone who loves runs around—and very much enjoys doing so—it's a bit surprising to me that he so willingly rides Raph's shell so much. I could see that being his safe space of sorts, for when things get too exciting and Mikey can feel it starting to overwhelm him. Just an area to take a breather.
It's wonderful to see both because it allows the characters to have sensory needs without it becoming a one-dimensional gag. It's no longer a trope, but rather an aspect of their identities. Yeah, Donnie not always reciprocating affection can be made funny. Yeah, Mikey not sitting still can be made funny. But the joke is never the character themselves because they focused on writing a complex, actual person; not the simplified, easily-digestible idea of a disability.
