Autism coding: Bro's literally got a sword and swordfighting hyperfixation where, despite playing a game that focuses around guns, he still chooses to use a sword!! We also see him completely missing Asuna's flirting at first (he tells her she could have just checked her friendlist to make sure he was alive, in response to her tracking him down to see him)

Bi coding: Dual wielding swords is literally a euphemism in Japan for bisexuality; and Kirito initially tries to hide the fact he can dual wield out of fear of how the people he's close to will view him (and once he reveals it to them and they accept it, he begins to be more open about it.) Also in the Underworld arc he becomes very close with Eugeo to the point of living with him (and sharing a bed on occasion), and there are several parallels between Eugeo and Asuna, and they're so gay for each other that despite the anime having only a toned down version of it, they're still very affectionate (Also of note is that Eugeo is the only guy in SAO canon to consistently have a 'laying in bed with Kirito' talk CG in the spinoff games) (There's more but it's spoilers and this is a shortened version)

Trans coding: Kirito is very trans coded in the light novel (which shows Kirito's thoughts in much greater detail than the anime) Aincrad arc reveals that Kirito explicitly Does Not Like his real face, and dislikes how feminine it looks (he mentions that its led to him and his cousin being mistaken for sisters) And in Phantom Bullet arc, he's visibly uncomfortable at being mistaken for a girl due to his avatar's appearance, and in response to being misgendered he briefly panics and checks to make sure his chest flat (at least in the anime adaptation) 🏳️‍⚧️"

"for other fans of this series, I know the more obvious representation here may be Luou, Junpei is So Good. his special interest is ballet and he has so many hangups involving how his family sees him and how other boys his age interpret him to the point that his idea of masculinity is extremely narrow and he enforces social rules on himself to mask and keep people from realizing that he loves something that Isn't Manly. he misinterprets social cues and takes things literally, like assuming that when Miyako asked him to dance with her she meant Right This Minute rather than as a pair in the studio. for some reason the point where he cuts his hair super short to prove his devotion to ballet is also sticking with me, I think maybe it's the combination of the way it's normal for boys/men in Japan to do that, yet Junpei didn't realize that kind of attitude/action didn't suit ballet at all? he wasn't aware that the context was completely different. Junpei also doesn't act or pretend very well, he's gotta put his whole entire ass into his roles, which he then proceeds to get TOO into and cause a lot of trouble, without giving too much away! he's really relatable to me as someone who's socially anxious but very skilled at masking, and seeing him become more comfortable with himself and start to show how he really feels is so inspiring to me."

Mei is doting in a very ‘big-sister’ sort of way, rough and tumble protectiveness meeting an honest (if obsessive) love for you.

So much of your relationship with Mei consists of doting touch. Her hands are always on you whenever she finds a good enough excuse for skinship. A tangle in your hair? Mei brushes it out and makes you sit down so she can check through your hair for more. Your clothes are skewed? Hold still and let her fix them. Hungry? Hop on her bike and wrap your arms around her waist- she’ll take you somewhere!

Speaking of which, she takes you on bike rides whenever the chance arises. It can be a simple ride to a nearby arcade, or a trip out to the countryside to camp out and stargaze. She opts for the latter more often, given that it allows you both to be alone for days on end, isolated from the world, from anyone who would take your attention and presence away from her.

She involves you in a lot of her livestreams, in the most flattering light possible. Lots of ‘Look what my bestie can do’ or ‘Y/N making their famous home-made cookies’ videos- short and fluffy content that her viewers praise for being heartwarming. In this way, she ‘shares’ you with the world, allowing her viewers to marvel over you like a glittering relic.

Lots of showing you off, actually- like a proud dragon flaunting a cherished treasure from her hoard. Mei also uses her money to keep you dressed and presentable, in the same gold and white that she wears. Several of the outfits in your closet were custom-ordered for you, with the excuse that she won them in a giveaway, but weren’t to her personal style. Then you can accept them without guilt or the need to repay her.

Each expensive outfit is specialized just for you, to fit your tastes and preferences while still being in her own colors. If you like to frolic around in sundresses, she adds in wide-brimmed hats to keep you from getting burnt. Do you wear skirts on all occasions? Mei throws in high-quality tights to keep you modest and leggings to suit the weather. You have autism and can’t touch rough fabrics without discomfort? She skips over cheap swathes of spandex and wool, opting to have silk used instead.

Matching jewelry, too- the only difference between her bracelet and yours is differing birthstones. (MK has one too, obv- her obsessive feelings probably extend to him, albeit on a much less extreme scale.) An immediate #twinsie posts, Mei’s fingers wrapped around yours as she takes the photo. She’ll admit that she bought these glittering bands, but point out that MK already accepted his, so you have to take yours too- and you do, but with the promise that you’ll make something tasty to repay her.

Mei comes over whenever you bake or cook, bringing trendy drinks along to share with you. And, if you have no important responsibilities for the next day, then our upbeat dragon girl is hellbent on a sleepover. Same bed, bestie! Mei wraps around you tightly, clinging with her powerful arms and legs to keep you close. (I like to imagine that dragons share warmth in little cuddle piles- it’s too damn cute to not think of.) Her draconic aura surges out sometimes, wispy green trails illuminating the dark bedroom around you. A pair of leering xanthous eyes stare down at you, adoration etched deep into every glowing inch of yellow.

Sometimes she drags MK along to these little slumber parties, both your heads resting on her chest, an ancient warmth pulsing with each beat of her heart. She holds you and him tight to herself, her arms bringing her beloved friends as close as possible. To Mei, the two of you are the closest to ‘perfect’ that the world gets. If she has you both in her her arms, then everything is good and just and right.

And god forbid anyone try to take that from her.

This one is very true for me! For some reason there’s a big stereotype that Autistic people are incredibly unimaginative. But once again: We’re a spectrum! Some of us may not have the most vivid imagination or may not be the “creative type,” and that’s okay! But I do find that quite a lot of us tend to be very imaginative, artsy, creative etc. My imagination is so vivid that I can practically see an object I’ve imagined in grear detail and can visualize it as if it’s in 3D space. Sadly…this doesn’t make me any better at drawing 😝 Regardless of my skill level though, I’ve always had a passion for the arts. I love to draw, paint, write stories, write poetry, and I used to dabble in playing the piano as well! One of my coping mechanisms I’ve had since childhood has been to retreat into the fictional worlds I’d created in my mind. I do this to this day in my late twenties.

Day 14: Hyperfixations

So, I often see the word “hyperfixation” used interchangeably with “special interest.” (The latter is often shortened to “spin,” which I love!) My understanding is that hyperfixations are more common in ADHD and refer to intense, almost obsessive interests that last a shorter amount of time than a spin. A spin, on the other hand, is more common in Autism and is essentially the same as a hyperfixation but generally lasts longer—anywhere from years to one’s whole life. That was my understanding of the terms, but I of course could be very wrong! I do have both Autism and ADHD however, so I do experience both hyperfixations and spins. My spin that I’ve had my ENTIRE life was The Legend of Zelda. It’s my all-time favourite videogame series and it means so, so much to me. I always related to the main protagonist Link, whom I’ve headcanoned as being Autistic for years! A spin I had for years was Japan, and I taught myself a lot of Japanese from childhood until I graduated high school. It’s not so much a special interest anymore, though I’m still making an effort to learn the language, culture, and I would still very much like to visit Japan some day! 🇯🇵 A few years back, I had a hyperfixation on plague doctors of all things! I still think they’re interesting, but it was definitely a little more of a fleeting interest. Of course, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t resurface—hyperfixations often do resurface for me hehe! One of my current most prominent spins right now is Puritan New England. Recently on my trip abroad, I visited Boston and Salem Massachusetts and I was SO hyped!! I need to clarify that my interest in the Puritans is NOT at all due to any support for colonialism—I am staunchly anti-colonialism. I just have a morbid fascination with fanatical religious groups and their history. I usually compare it to people who have an interest in true crime—just because they’re interested in the subject, doesn’t mean they support serial killers or anything like that. Hope that makes sense!

Day 15: Pebbling

Awww, pebbling! One of my favourite things about the Autistic community and the neurodivergent community in general! For those who don’t know, the term “pebbling” comes from something penguins do when selecting a mate: they will find a rock they think is pretty and give it to the mate they’re interested in as a gift! Autistic people often do this too (though not necessarily in a romantic context; I mean, probably in that context too, but often we do this with friends!) Autistic people might see somehing they think is really cool, neat, or interesting, and give it to someone they like to share in the fascination. This is our little bonding ritual and it shows that we really like you, so feel honoured! I don’t do much pebbling myself, or at least maybe not as frequently as some Autists. But on the occasion I do, it’s usually a craft item I’ve made for that person! For example, when I made a new friend last year at uni who was also Autistic and has a spin with skeletons and spooky things. So, I made them a skull magnet out of fuse beads! (They loved it!) I recall back in high school as well, there was a time I was making like a bajillion origami butterflies for an art project I was doing at the time. I made a few extra, so I just gave everyone in my friend group an origami butterfly! 🦋

Day 16: Autistic Pride

I have always found it odd when people treat my Autism diagnosis as if it’s a tragedy. Yes, I won’t deny that it has caused me much hardship and sometimes I do think it’d be easier to be neurotypical. But if I wasn’t Autistic, I wouldn’t be me. I wouldn’t be infinitely curious with an insatiable appetite for knowledge. I wouldn’t be creative in my particular way. I wouldn’t have my unique sense of humour that everyone in my life seems to enjoy. I don’t think I would have the compassion for others and love of the world that my peers know me for. I just wouldn’t be the same person. I love being a divergent thinker and having a perspective on the world that is entirely my own. I may have difficulties and need a lot of help with certain things, but I’ve accepted it and I accept myself. I love being Autistic, and I have no interest in a “cure.”

Day 17: Repetition

I am known for being very repetitive—probably to an annoying degree. Sometimes it’s embarrassing too 😭 For example, I’ll find a joke far funnier for far longer than most people. By the time everyone is over the funny joke, I’ll still be unable to contain my laughter. I can’t help it, I’m sorry!! I also tend to repeat quotes from my favourite shows, movies, games etc. over and over again. Often with little to no context as well LMAO

Day 18: Self Regulating

Self regulating for me usually means stimming, fidgeting, or, if trying to prevent a meltdown, shutting the blinds/curtains, hiding under a blanket, putting headphones on etc. Sometimes the world is just too much for anyone—but when you’re on the spectrum, it’s like that more often. It’s hard for me to convey just how intense my sensory issues are to non-Autistic people. The best way for me to explain it is…imagine if your eardrums were *outside* of your ears. Or if, like a camera, the exposure (amount of light let in) was turned up to the max in your eyes. Or you know that one itchy sweater you hate? Imagine if almost every kind of fabric you tried on bothered you like that. It’s like all your senses are just…turned up to the absolute maximum. This is why we stim. Why we wear sunglasses sometimes even indoors. Why we wear headphones or earplugs. The world is loud, bright, and constantly coming at you. Let us self regulate. Doing so will make you a great friend to an Autistic person ❤️

In real life, we have been out as transmasc and genderqueer since we were 11-12. While not everyone in our system identifies with this, it's an important part of our identity and life!

We are a smaller polyfrag system (system of ~65). We are ‘brainmade’ heavy and fragment/low development heavy (~20 fully developed alters).

We're white and ethnically Ashkenazi Jewish from both sides of our family. We generally identify as a reform Jew and became b-mitzvah at 13. We are pro-Palestine and support a two-state solution. We don't support the current Israeli government, though we will not tolerate any antisemitic remarks towards Israel/Israelis. This means we also need to stop using "Zionism" as a buzzword or as a synonym for “Jew I don’t like”, as well as calling Israel things such as “Israelhell” and “Isnotreal”.

[ Sylus didn't remember much of his life, one minute he was trapped in a hunters trap than he was in a witches house healing. He did learn that he could shift and that he was a familiar, which he was thankful it was another shot at life, but that good life was soon gone as his owner would get mad at him for every little thing. Got the wrong item? He was punished. Ate without approval? Punished. Even talking to certain people got him beaten. No longer trusting their familiar Leto cursed Sylus making the other have to follow every command that was spoken to them.

He eventually was able to escape, getting lucky as Leto forgot to chain up him, and forgot to lock the door. Maybe he was testing Sylus if the familiar would stay, but he didn't. Sylus stays on the run and is worried he will run into Leto again, mostly since the other is looking for him, mostly since Sylus is still cursed to listen to whatever command is thrown at him. Sylus is looking for a way to free himself from the curse. ]

Notes about him:

- Has ADHD, has sensory issues, he does have autism but is undiagnosed, anxiety and depression (which is also undiagnosed. Everything he has is undiagnosed.)

- He wants to study marine biology and has a huge love for water life

- Loves the cold, and tends to roll around in the snow human and animal form

- Complains about the heat a lot yet he still loves going to the ocean but prefers it on a cold day or rainy day

- On rare occasions he will eat meat raw but he prefers it cooked (he does refuse to eat fish)

- Due to the abuse caused by his owner his sense of hearing ain't that great (compared to how good a snow leopards hearing normally are)

- The curse works for anyone, if some stranger orders Sylus to sit he will

- Even after what he went through he is still rather very trusting of others

- Though just because he trust easily he tends to not give out his name that quickly worried someone will return him to his master and tends to ask the person if they know a guy named Leto, he also doesn't mention that he's cursed

A little vent post, cuz this is a vent blog, after all.

I'm always thinking I'm faking it for attention.

It doesn't matter what "it" is.

It doesn't matter if I have all the evidence and reasons for "it" to be legit.

There are a few examples I'm getting paranoid about, lately.

I have the suspect of being autistic. I started suspecting it a couple of years ago, I have tons of signs of autism in every aspect of my Life. I talked about it with an handful of trusted people, two of them were recently able to get a professional diagnosis, and always told me I'm one of the few people who understands their sensory issues or certain ways of thinking. One of them actually decided to take the occasion to get diagnosed cuz they thought I already had one, and they thought that maybe they're autistic too. They are. I'm not telling about it to whoever will listen, I believe in self diagnosis but I highly doubt myself because I don't have the money for an official one and I don't want to end up fooling myself because I obsess over things, but what if I'm faking it for attention?

I'm a trans man. I never felt like a girl. A post on Tumblr about Marilyn Manson made me discover the word "transexual" and I finally understood who I am. I was 17 at the time, now I'm 26. I'm trans, I know it, and for safety reasons only my family and my friends know about it, irl. But what if I'm faking it for attention?

I'm punk. DIY is basically what I live for, I'm actively avoiding Amazon and other services like that as much as I can - I have to make exceptions for my special needs pets' sake, since the stupid city I live into doesn't even have a pet store, let alone specific things I need for my pets -, I've always trying to support small business even by just talking about them with my friends if I can't buy, I have the main punk values, I listen to the music. I try to inform others about the crimes big corporations are doing - don't get me started on Nestle -, and I actively try to help others. Only a year ago I started dressing punk, with my lil' thrifted clothes I'm having fun painting and modifying, but heh, I didn't have the opportunity to do this sooner. Then, Across The Spider-Verse came out and I'm happy people remember once again about Hobie's existence, yeah, I love him, but he's making me doubt if I'm really punk, because what if I'm faking it for attention?

I'm pagan. I work with Loki, Hel and Fenrir. I used to work with Thor too, before starting to work with Hel. I truly believe in them, I've always felt close to Norse Paganism since I was a toddler, always reading about it, always fascinated by it. Learning runes felt so natural, I always use them to write in my diary and there's nothing that brings me more inner peace than meditating and working with the Deities I worship. It's not something I yell around, it's something personal, private, and despite having this piece of information on some accounts' bio, I talk about it only if people ask, but what if I'm faking it for attention?

hermione granger & autism ! 

she has a strong sense of right vs wrong. she cannot and will not budge on her black-and-white morality. some examples include:

her whole general approach to umbridge. whilst, yes, everyone hated unbridge deeply, hermione was still the only one to guide her to forbidden forest as "punishment". 

the self-righteousness over the half-blood prince potions textbook. she just couldn't let it go - because harry was succeeding unjustly. 

reporting the mysterious firebolt parcel to mcgonagall, even though she knew how pissed harry and ron would be, because she suspected something was wrong. 

her harsh punishment of marietta edgecombe, where there was no space for making mistakes, but instead one must be deathly loyal to dumbledore's army or be branded a snake harshly. 

in the half-blood prince, when harry and malfoy duel, hermione knows how upset and shocked harry is for using sectumsempra, but she still felt the need to dig that point in, to the point ginny even has to step in.

the entire concept of spew.

she gets overwhelmingly emotional. there are many instances where she breaks down crying, as well as many instances where she's reactive in anger.

prone to outbursts like when she set those birds on ron for kissing lavender in the half-blood prince. 

she hyper-focuses a lot, mainly to do with studying. all instances of exam periods can be used as examples. she also spends obsessive time researching things - like nicholas flannel in philosopher's stone, or magical creatures law for buckbeak in prisoner of azkaban. this links heavily to her need for perfectionism.

she has demonstrated lack of social cues multiples times. some examples include: 

never having any close friends apart from harry & ron.

generally perceived as annoying, both in class (correcting people, overeager to participate) and also just in general life conversations.

constantly at odds with "girly" / traditionally feminine characters like fleur and lavender.

whilst she and ginny are friendly and interact a lot, hermione's not shown as particularly close to ginny outside of circumstance - they get along fairly well, though show to be at odds on the occasion of discussing morality (harry's duel with malfoy in the halfblood prince). one would assume that ginny is the closest female friend hermione has, but it is still a far cry from her relationships with harry & ron - and this is most likely due to the fact that ginny is socially apt and has no trouble at all in social situations, so thrives perfectly fine socially at hogwarts, whereas hermione sticks to her two best friends.

she seems to show an inability to understand humans a lot of the time, whilst still holding a deep sense of appreciation and love for humanity. for example, she gets frustrated quickly and warily when people cannot relate to her or understand her - ron's emotional range is a good example of this. luna lovegood as a character is also a prime example, as hermione needs tangible evidence of things existing and is unable to connect with luna properly on that basis. whilst a lot of people find luna odd and don't believe what she says, hermione is shown to be genuinely frustrated with luna's beliefs, being unable to understand it.

ABOUT ME

I go by many names, but generally you can call me “dashie”, I also go by “velvet” (Discord name), and “Erinn” if you really want to use my real name (I would prefer not but you *can*).

I am a gender soup that’s vaguely fspec— though she/they are my preferred pronouns. I call myself a trans girl because it’s easier to explain tbh.

Anyways let’s start out with the most obvious

Chase

So while it may be one of his bionic abilities I’d definitely count his super senses. He can hear more things than normal which is common in autistic people. And he can get super overwhelmed by it (think him screaming at the first school bell)

He stims. Like his “I did it! I did it!” and dancey dancey when he saved Adam. (I think he does this other times when he succeeds as well)

Often folds his arms. Could be a storm but also autistic people often don’t know what to do with their arms. Crossed arms, hands in pockets and raptor arms are common things to do.

Any nerd/smart character is often very autistic coded. He has an advanced vocabulary and that’s make him not understood. He likes to infodump even though people are often uninterested or don’t understand. He got so excited and stimmy for the sci fi con thing (Bree said he’d been excitedly saying just a few more minute for “hours”).

Not understanding things frustrates him (like the superhero’s)

Chase has emotional outbursts. Think him smashing his computer for being a useless hunk of junk.

Leo

Leo is a nerd. He wears graphic tees that he finds entertaining even if other people don’t like them.

He’s unpopular at school, and gets picked on.

He’s very stubborn.

Big emotional outbursts when annoyed.

I could totally see Markus being autistic intuition. Some autistic people just know when someone’s untrustworthy without being able to explain why.

He was pretty literal with the night shirt vs night gown convo. Like they’re different things and he won’t stand to hear they’re not.

He’s brutally honest. Like he says what he wants and does not consider the consequences or how it makes people feel.

But also insists on the importance of manners even in situations where they should be forgone.

On multiple occasions he’s said things in different ways like unintentionally rhyming or in a rhythmic or musical way.

Adam

He notices things but doesn’t realize they’re relevant till people point them out like the off button in the recycling plant.

He does not recognize what is appropriate for the situation. He does the goofiest stuff during serious moments. He forgets manners most of the time but suddenly remembers to use them when talking to an enemy.

Has an alternative form of affection instead of expressing it normally (playful bullying)

Protective of his family. Very loyal.

Bree

Obsessed with being a normal teen girl and thinks it’s like TV. She tries to follow it like rules. She needs to get best friends and then she has to back stab them.

She researched for her sleepover

Also the desire to be normal in general is really relatable to a lot of nuerodivergent people.

ADHD and autism are often comorbed, and she literally operates on a faster speed than everyone like her attention switches so fast.

She gets really caught up in relationships. AuDHD people can hyperfixate on people. While some autistic people can be specially tuned to intentions like Leo others can be easier to manipulate like Bree because theyre blind to intentions and pay attention to what the person is directly saying to them.

Davenport

He admittedly didn’t have a lot of friends growing up.

He was very emotionally attached to his action figures and gets emotionally attached to other material objects.

Still really enjoys stuff from childhood like video games and action figures

He’s super smart. He’s created a whole bunch of advanced tech.

He needs a specific environment to work on things though. He got really annoyed by quiet sounds like Leo’s breathing and prefers to work alone. He needs to be get in the zone and can tend to ignore people when in it.

He gets really annoyed when people touch his stuff. Big emotional outbursts.

Can be kind of oblivious of how people might feel about what he says, and does. Like he was super proud of the Lab Rats when Tasha and Leo found them and confused when she wasn’t supportive of how he raised them and upset that they existed without her knowledge.

Originally a harsh and egotistical bully, Steve was labeled by many at Hawkins to be a asshole and a douchebag. Using his popularity and his families money, Steve was anything but a good dude. Drugs, parties and flings were his way to relieve that hole in his heart left behind by his parent’s absence.

Though, his personality changed after getting his face bashed in by Jonathan Byers and quickly his kingdom toppled.

Now humbled by the truth of Hawkins and his own traumatic brain injuries, Steve is rather soft and caring to those he loves and tends to be more snarky than mean. Keeping his loved ones safe is his priority. Though, he knows how to defend himself and won’t take bullshit from people. If need be, he can call forth King Steve to put someone in their place.

Backstory:

Warnings include, Ableism, child abuse, child neglect, blood, injuries, alcoholism.

Born to Richard and Maria Harrington, Steve wasn’t planned. He was an accident during a business trip to London. Though, now struck with the possibility of a new asset to their future, Steve was born at Hawkin’s general hospital on April 15th, 1967.

During his years growing up into a toddler, Steve was strange. Often getting attached to things and never sitting still or such. He became obsessed with marigolds and gardening.

Steve was recommended to get tested by a pediatrician.

When Steve turned 5 he was diagnosed with Autism.

Maria and Richard immediately denied such claims and worked to shape their boy into the perfect, normal child. Years and years of conditioning and training made Steve mask his autism. He was normal.

But even as he tried to appease his parents, to be good to get them to stay, they never did.

At the age of 9, Steve learned of his mother’s heritage as a Italian American. At the age of 9, Steve was left alone to take care of himself. At the age of 9, Steve learned about himself.

He learned how to cook, clean, fold laundry.

Steve grew angry.

He hated it.

Once Steve reached 14, he started Hawkins high.

Having grown a reputation as a golden boy due to his family, Steve was already a name many were familiar with. Finding friendship with a boy named Tommy and a girl named Carol, Steve finally found company that stayed.

Quickly he grew up the food chain and after just 3 months of attending Hawkin’s high, he was labeled their king.

Throwing hatred for the freaks and outcasts at Hawkins high, Steve was efficient in his lashing out at anything different. His parents were proud.

But he felt sick.

He labeled Eddie Munson as ‘The Freak.’

He would throw huge parties and drink and smoke and go crazy. Just to fill that hole in his heart left behind by his parents.

1983

Then, he met Nancy Wheeler.

He fell for her and he fell HARD. She was an enigma to him. He loved her sass and her brain. Loved how she played hard to get and actually cared about people and her friends.

She wasn’t like other girls, she had more to her than her surface.

He had never truly been loved like he was with Nancy. Sure, Steve’s been ‘loved’ but never loved. People love the idea of him. His name. His status. But not Steve.

Nancy? Nancy did.

And then Steve gets the shit beat out of him by Jonathan.

He gets his second concussion that day. His ears ring a little and his headaches ache more than they did but he woke up. He realized just how awful he’s been and wants to make it better. He tries to fix his mistakes, cuts off Tommy and Carol and tries to apologize to Nancy and Jonathan.

And then he’s faced with a true monster.

And he makes a decision.

1984

Steve is there for every single time Hawkins is in peril.

He’s dragged into such by Dustin and slowly over time, bonds with the party and is trusted to keep them safe. It never gets easier as a human shield but Steve has a purpose. He was now useful.

Steve gets his third concussion from Hargrove, their rivalry reaching a boiling point at their showdown at the Byers home. Steve didn’t get along well with Hargove, being seen as a competitor to the throne of Hawkins.

Steve easily loses the fight but he kept them safe enough for max to incapacitate him.

The world is saved again and he officially looses Nancy to Jonathan.

He doesn’t cry about his wounds which remain untreated or about loosing Nancy. Harrington men don’t cry.

He’s offered a scholarship for a swimming team, fully paid for and funded but he turns it down for the sake of Hawkins and the party.

Sometimes he regrets that decision.

1985

Steve graduates in 1985 and he’s cut off from his parents money. Forced to get a job, he applies at the new starcourt mall and finds a job at Scoops Ahoy.

He works there for the summer with one Robin Buckley and is immediately in love with her. Loves her snark, her knowledge and her games. Loves her a person. He grows fond of her and the party now more than ever.

And then shit hits the fan.

Steve, Robin, Erica and Dustin all investigate the strange interference in the Hawkins radio and end up lost under the mall. They are locked in an elevator for one night and eventually captured by Russian soldiers.

Steve gets his fourth concussion and a few broken ribs and bruised organs for their troubles. He can’t hear out of his left ear and his vision is fuzzy around the edges.

But he gained Robin. His soulmate.

His platonic with a Captain P soulmate.

Once Starcourt is burned down, he goes home and licks his wounds alone. His hearing never returned and his vision is worse but it’s fine. It has to be.

He drives the kids where they need to go and helped Joyce load the moving van to California. Helped her pick up other belongings from the kid’s houses.

He was there to see Jonathan and Will off.

He got a job at Family Video with Robin, the two inseparable. He slowly unmasked around Robin. Feeling comfortable in his own skin again.

1986

He became jealous of Eddie Munson. Dustin’s new friend and mentor to the party.

He drove the kids to and from hellfire and bonded with them as much as he knew about their game. He did his best to keep himself useful.

Until, once again, it happened.

A dead cheerleader and a innocent man on the run from things he didn’t understand, Steve was once again met with Eddie Munson. Held against the side of the boathouse, Steve felt a familiar spark rise in him with Eddie.

Love.

However, Steve didn’t realize it.

Being dragged into hell after a late night swim, Steve gets his fifth concussion. He cannot hear out of his left ear at all anymore and his vision and memory is fuzzy. But he keeps going.

He can handle it later.

Once max is okay, once the upside down is once again, stopped.

Later came and went and Vecna ran. He got away.

Eddie was torn apart and Dustin broke his ankle.

Canon divergent route 1

Steve gave Eddie CPR and didn’t let him go beyond life at all. Using his life guard training he kept Eddie alive all the way to the hospital. Carrying Munson out of hell himself.

Once Eddie, Dustin and Max were taken care of? Steve collapsed into a seizure.

When Steve was coherent enough, he was given a government assigned neurologist and was later diagnosed with epilepsy and seizures. He lost his license. He lost his freedom.

He was given medication and was offered the latest in hearing aids and glasses and with pressure from Robin, agreed.

During the apocalypse in Hawkins, Steve never once slowed down. Bringing food and clothes and blankets to the shelter, making sandwiches and helping mothers and families get clothes, he worked and worked to keep others safe and provide for them.

For months, he kept watch of Eddie and Max, in their comas and kept Wayne company.

Then, Eddie woke up.

And he and Steve got together and beat Vecna once and for all.

Canon ending for season 4

Eddie dies and Steve and the crew are left to pick up the pieces of Hawkins. Being reunited with the rest of the party, Steve and Robin help with the relief aids in the high school. Making sandwiches and sorting clothes and waiting and planning.

With El back in their neck of the woods, they plan and wait.

Post canon in which Eddie lives

Steve learned to take care of himself with Robin, Eddie and the party’s help. Keeping up to date on MRI’s and his medication and aids.

He learned ASL with Robin to communicate and he’s been having fun teaching Eddie and Dustin words in ASL. He was loved. Appreciated.

Steve stopped masking at 20 and once Vecna was defeated for good, he got a marigold garden. He and Eddie and Wayne move in together and all share rent.

At the age of 23 Steve goes to college for teaching and at the age of 27, he had a degree in teaching for public schools. He became a teacher for the local preschool at 29.

He and Eddie stayed together for years and eventually they both got their own home in Loch Nora together, fit with a marigold and vegetable garden.

Steve still has seizures and he and Eddie and the party all know what to do when one happens but he wouldn’t have it any other way.

He kept them safe.

Alright so, I wouldn't have finished this so soon but some of you showed interest in my silly ramblings sooooo... here are some of my headcanons for Larry's 'aloof' personality.

Asperger Syndrome

-Since he was a small child, there were a few behavioral differences between him and the rest of the children.

He never really knew how to properly communicate. That might be very common in children BUT he literally had struggles trying to explain anything. Sentences like: 'I want that' or 'can I have that?' were never on his tongue and lots of time he'd get upset at himself/ people around him for not being able to read his mind and take care of his demands. This kind of behavior crosses a bit into 'anti-social' tenancies. (Hard time to communicate, preferred playing alone, very poor social skills, etc) Shortly, his 'forever-upset' personality resulted in children excluding/ isolating him from their games and plays.

-Larry didn't know why nobody wanted to play with him, why everybody avoided him like plague and gave him dubious looks. Throughout his kindergarten and early-school years he never made friends, never had any significant relationships except with his parents.

Why did nobody see these signs and act accordingly?

We're in the late 90's. There's no such thing as ‘diagnosing kids with mental illness’ unless they've got some kind of schizophrenia that really makes them act out. Parents had little to no information about mental health, let alone autism and how it manifests in children. Rough times but that's how they were.

-Growing up lonely, Larry found his refuge in drawing and writing silly little cartoon stories. Solo hobbies are extremely common in the autistic spectrum, especially when they come in package with die-hard fixations/ obsessions.

-Sensorial sensibility: he can’t stand bright lights in his basement. That’s why he always keeps a small desk lamp on and nothing else to see around him.

-In school, he did poorly. The motto was: it’s either you’re the only one who gets it and nobody else does OR everybody else gets it and you’re the only one who doesn’t. No way in between these two.

-The internal struggle of 'Why am I like this? Why do they hate me? What's wrong with me?' never left his brain. Now, communication was absolutely required no matter if he liked it or not. That's school, you're supposed to answer stuff, use your brains to solve problems and get through the day.

-Firstly, he did what his autistic mind told him to do.. he went fully fucking honest and blunt. With every occasion when he got asked about something, he innocently pointed out everything that bothered him/ seemed wrong or annoying without any fucking filter whatsoever. Needless to say, his true-nature approach didn’t escape punishment. His mother was called, the teachers complained that he’s ‘too mean and arrogant’ , ‘never focused’ , ‘too lazy and selfish’ etc. Everything while Larry looked like a fucking deer in the highlights telling his mom that he didn't do nothing wrong.

-When he finally understood that ‘being honest’ wasn't the key for normal human-communication, that's when his mind began searching for other ways to go by.

-Masking-

Masking was the second option.

-He watched, heard, studied, learned and taught himself the Fine Arts of mimicking normal human response in social situations. Now, that's how he mostly made it work.

-As a chill but tragically misunderstood child, he had finally learned how to make friends. It started with Ash and Maple (alternative music and general outcasts) and later in middle-school, Ash presented him to Todd. (Now, I'd rant about Rob and their 'brother from another mother' dynamic and friendship but that's for another long post if any of you are interested)

-When his father abruptly disappeared from the family frame, it just.... made everything ten thousand times worse for Larry (This is gonna be another post if you're interested)

-All in all, now with a select group of friends he’s still aloof, weird, too loud or too quiet sometimes BUT at least he’s not alone and miserable anymore.

Normally, he's a laid back dude, a stoner (autism and substance abuse is another headache of a post..) a metalhead and maybe just a little delinquent sometimes after 8 pm because of teenage rebellion and all that stuff.

-His ‘masking act’ falls sometimes when he talks about painting, video games, music and basically everything that interests him. Asperger in boys is a lot different than in girls. Girls tend to keep their ‘masking act’ better than boys as boys often don't realize when they slip and start talking miles and miles about their favorite hobbies/ subjects without noticing if the person they're talking to completely loses their interest or gets angry for being talked over and interrupted all the time.

His friends find him a bit annoying at times cause… fuck, who like being talked over? but they’re so used to him that it’s just common and gets easily forgotten.

-When the sudden chronic-insomnia hit him, the fatigue and lethargy didn't go unnoticed by Lisa. Finally, she managed to drag him to a doctor that surprisingly or not, completely missed to diagnose him with autism. The shrink blamed his insomnia on weed (another rant here) and …. ADHD?. Larry took the classic DSM-4 test (oh boy, gotta love the 90′s..) it came back negative on symptoms, confirming everybody that he didn't have ADHD. (Now, I know that the two behavioral illnesses often came in package but with Larry it wasn't the case) After that, nobody did anything.

-Now, he lives freely his teenage years hanging out with Sal, regularly smoking weed, getting deeply offended by the un-true belief that he might have ADHD, still trying to figure out what's actually wrong with him that no shrink or DSM could tell and ultimately enjoying his hobbies and little shenanigans him and his best amigo do.

-The ‘masking act’ has long become an automatic behavior, an unconscious switch for normal social situations so, now he’s most definitely not aware that he’s doing it. 

Sal highly suspects him of being autistic due to the fact that he had far more contacts with doctors and psychiatrists in his entire life that he knows VERY WELL the red flags or autistic behaviors. That and because of their first interaction when Larry was like ‘Sup, you like metal? You GOTTA like metal!’ it screams autism from a fucking mile.

This post is embarrassingly LONG and useless.. and I'll shut the fuck up now for real. BUT If anyone feels like asking questions or going deeper down this rabbit hole, feel free to text me <3 as I love waffling about psychology and pretty much anything lol.

After that he decides to major in dance (at Spot and Albert’s encouragement)

He starts wearing crop tops and going around the kitchen shirtless and it drives Spot crazy
