Australian Parent Visa Processing Time Explained
Are you planning to bring your parents to Australia? The Australian Parent Visa is a great option that allows parents to live permanently with their children in Australia. There are two main types of visas: the Contributory Parent Visa, which has a shorter processing time of around 4 to 6 years, and the Non-Contributory Parent Visa, which can take up to 30 years due to high demand. Each visa has its own eligibility criteria and costs, so understanding these details is essential.More details? Read our blog “Australian Parent Visa Processing Time: Your Ultimate Guide”

Western Australia New Visa Updates For Overseas Workers!
Applicants interested in the Western Australia (WA) skilled immigration visas have a lot to look forward to: the WA government headed by Premier Mark McGowan recently announced that it will cut red tape in an attempt to fix WA’s skilled job crisis.
As WA’s unemployment rate dropped to an all-time low this August, many industries faced and publicly decried the lack of workers to meet an uptick in demand. Popular restaurants, short on servers, chefs and managers, even had to turn away hundreds of customers. In response to the increased demand outpacing the supply of labour, the McGowan government announced a slew of measures to attract more skilled workers and support local industries.
In an update to Western Australian skilled migration news, over 100 occupations have been added to the WA skilled occupation list, bringing the total to more than 300, increasing the list by nearly 60% compared to the previous year. This list includes occupations for workers in the healthcare, construction, manufacturing, and tourism industries. It even includes hairdressers, driving instructors, panel beaters and butchers.
Minimum visa requirements for foreign workers are set by the Federal Government of Australia which oversees the list of eligible occupations. Thereafter, states, such as WA select jobs on that list to include in their own State Nominated Migration Program, which provides applicants with bonuses in the points-based system used by the Department of Home Affairs to approve visas.
WA received 8,140 places for 2022–23, 4,950 more places than the previous year and the third largest allocation overall, after New South Wales and Victoria.
The McGowan government also complimented the substantial increase in the occupation list with changes to the State nomination criteria by providing temporary relaxations such as:
Waiving the $200 application fee
Reducing the requirement to have an employment contract from 12 months to six months
Easing the requirements for applicants to demonstrate “sufficient funds” by doing away with the need to show $20,000 in their bank accounts
Removing additional English requirements for professional and manager occupations
Reducing work experience requirements for the 2022-23 program year to attract more skilled workers to WA
The WA government also announced it aims to allocate nearly $4 million on short-term programs which will help foreign students in developing hospitality and tourism skills. These measures further support the McGowan policies to attract skilled migrants such as its decision in July to launch the new Skilled Migrant Employment Register which connects skilled migrants to state jobs.

“What do you mean your visa’s running out?” Lando asks.
“I’m Australian. Not a magician. Commonwealth only gets you so far.”
“I thought you were here on a scholarship.”
“Well. Yeah. But scholarships stop. Once you graduate.”
Lando toes the doorway rug. It feels weird to be talking about this in the middle of the hallway, though the only other person who would be listening might be Mrs. Kapoor, and half the time it’s only because she sticks her head out to ask if Lando or Oscar would take one of her mystery vegan curries. Lando is neither a huge fan of vegan food nor curry, and he trusts Oscar’s word for it that it’s good because they eat it while playing Gran Turismo at Lando’s place. But Lando always accepts the curries nonetheless, because his parents raised him to be polite, and he wasn’t raised in a barn. (Even if he technically grew up in converted farmhouse in the countryside, but that was besides the point.)  Either way, this is slipping away from him much quicker than he’d anticipated. Late night hangouts, dropping mail and post-it notes, text messages about the community garden. The most inane smalltalk about things big and small from the origins of moths to whether aliens were out there or just chose to ignore the +44 area code. Oscar always laughing in the right places when Lando regales him about tales of his terrible online dating stories, Oscar always picking the pickles out of the roast beef bagels before he passes one to Lando. The corner of Lando’s sofa that Lando has started to think of as Oscar’s because he’s there so often, reading one of his books or trying to speedread a JSTOR article about the lifecycle of urban pathogens while Lando worked on artwork for his upcoming store launch.
Lando’s synapses are firing too fast. His brain did that most days, and that was what made him exceedingly good at his job, and today in particular - it doesn’t feel like there’s any logical way out.
Lando remembers that movie they watched once though. As a joke. The one they both pretended not to enjoy, with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in Alaska. The one they watched when Oscar sat next to Lando on the sofa, and they both pretended the entire night that their knees weren’t touching.
His therapist said he had a tendency to get ahead of himself when under stress. But it’s a joke, it’s not serious, there’s no way—
“We could just like, get married.”
Lando shoves his hands in his pockets. That came out way more calm and cooler than he thought it actually would.  And to his credit, Oscar doesn’t drop his mug of tea. Lando knows that’s his favourite one, because Lando got it for him, and it says Science is my superpower. Oscar does, however, slightly shift his grip on the mug.
“I feel like it’d be complicated to explain to my mum why I randomly married my upstairs neighbour?”
“But it’s not a no.”
Oscar tilts his head. There’s a glimmer of something focused, maybe even hungry in his eyes. Oscar gets like that when his mind turns, when he’s working on an especially difficult thesis, when the pieces are forming and he can lock into the crucial details.
Lando is a little alarmed at how much he already recognises it, and how much more often he’d like to draw that reaction out.
“If the facts don’t fit the theory, then reexamine the facts. Right?” Oscar says.
And Lando is there, in the doorway. Conscious that Mrs Kapoor might’ve heard everything, but all the more conscious that there’s a hammering in his heart that he can’t tell is nervousness, or anticipation.
What’s the stress limit for a joke you’re probably already pushing too far? Lando thinks.
He isn’t sure.
But maybe it’s a thesis worth testing out.

(and ok maybe i cheated a little on arranged marriage but i think this is the closest i could get with the contemporary context. thank you @cx-boxbox for the prompt <3)

Untitled House MD Speculative Piece
(that is the title btw)
for @sylviedonnas @housemdanniversary hope you like it, Hailey!
here it is on ao3
And here it is here:
For the last five months, Robert Chase had been a damn Ouija board. In constant communication with a dead person, phone calls, updates sending over prescriptions. Death is meant to rid a person from all worldly pain. So why was it that Chase had been getting a dead guy Vicodin?
He wasn’t entirely sure how it had happened. One moment, Gregory House was dead. He had died in a fire, and all that was left of him was some teeth, they could only identify him by his dental records. The next moment he was alive, planning to spend five months with his dying best friend, taking him wherever he wanted, and in desperate need of pain medication. Who better to ask than his successor?
Chase had always been House’s yes-man. Almost blindly agreeing with everything House had said. Well, he was usually right anyways. Chase was the only member of House’s original team who never quit, he had only ever been fired. Of course he always ended up on House’s team again. And Chase, he never had to worry about becoming like House. For all eight years he had worked at Princeton Plainsboro with House, it was always Eric Foreman who was “House-Lite”. Chase was the pretty Australian. He was kind to his patients, and cared about his job, and not just because he needed to keep his job to keep his work visa. Foreman was the one who needed to worry. Hell, Foreman ended up quitting the team because of that worry.
But now, eight years later, Foreman was the goddamn Dean of Medicine. And Chase? Chase had House’s job. Same job in that same office, with the same white board and same blood stain on the floor from when House was shot by a patient. But somehow, it didn’t feel any different.
Chase sat in the office, his legs up on the desk. The team- His team, had left for the day. And he was alone. He fiddled with the red and gray ball that had been there as long as he could remember. He supposed the ball was his now, as was everything else in that office. But it still felt like it didn’t belong to him, like House was going to walk in any moment and berate him with snarky comments for touching his stuff, but he wasn’t going to.
In all likelihood, House was never going to walk into that office again. Of course, that didn’t mean House’s voice would never be heard in that office.
Chase’s phone rang. He didn’t even have to look at the caller ID to know who it was. Who else would be calling him? His parents were dead, he wasn’t speaking with his ex-wife. He didn’t really have any friends.
Chase picked up the phone, “Hey, House.”
“Hey,” House replied. Something about his voice sounded off. Almost as if he had been crying.
“You okay?” Chase asked, “do you need me to send you a prescription?”
“No, uh,” House almost sounded like he was choking on his words, “It’s Wilson. He’s- he’s dead Robert.”
Oh right, that. Chase’s life had been so clouded by what was going on with House while he was gone, he had forgotten why he had left. Chase’s heart sank. He didn’t know Wilson very well, of course it was sad that he had died, but he was mainly concerned about House. House had given up his entire life for that man, and now that he was gone, well, what was left to live for?
“Uh, Chase?” House had interrupted his train of thought.
“Which state are you in?” Chase asked
“What?”
“Which state are you in?”
“Shock and panic, mostly.” So House wasn’t totally devoid of his usual personality.
“No, I mean, where are you?”
“Currently in a hotel. Why?”
Chase sighed. All of this, and House was still acting like an ass. Maybe he had an excuse, but now really wasn’t the time. “You know what I mean.” he said through gritted teeth.”
“California. I still don’t understand why you need to know.”
“Because I’m going to come get you.”
“No the fuck you are not. It was never your responsibility to take care of me, and it still isn’t.”
“I’m not saying you need to be taken care of, I’m just-”
“You’re just what?”
“I’m just,” Chase sighed again, “scared that you might do something stupid?”
“Like what? Kill myself?” House’s words hit Chase like a ton of bricks, and he hung up before Chase had a chance to respond.
Somehow, against House’s wishes, Chase ended up on a plane flying into LAX.
When he arrived at the airport, he texted House, said he was in California and asked for his address. And he got it, the hotel, down to the exact room.
Chase knocked on House’s door, it swung open, and they were standing face to face. God, it was almost like Chase was looking into a taller, older mirror.
After Chase had gotten divorced and shaved his head, his hair got darker. Turning from a bright yellow blonde into a nearly brown color, Chase could still see the faint shadow of once-brown hair through House’s unkempt gray.
House’s eye’s were notoriously very blue, but Chase had never noticed how similar they were in shade, not to mention the dark circles and bags that were forming rapidly under both.
Chase almost looked like he could be House’s goddamn son, the same long face, long nose, permanently unshaven stubble.
Chase didn’t know what to say, the fact that he was here at all, standing face to face with the dead man he had worked for for eight years. Standing there, for the first time, not at work or doing anything involving work. Whatever they had at the moment, it was mutual.
Chase didn’t know what to do, start comforting him, scream at him, offer up his hand and say “good afternoon sir,”. Without even thinking, he hugged him, didn’t even say anything.
Much to his surprise, House hugged him back.

Nari's Backstory
Tumblr media
Before 1995
Nari's parents met in university when they studied the same major, her mother was an exchange student from China coming to study business, while her father is born and raised in Australia
After falling in love, the two married as soon as they graduated from university, getting marriage visas in China and Australia for the significant other
Building a business together in medical health, it became successful to the point that they do international business with China and Japan (eventually South Korea and America later in the years when Nari is an idol), and were known for being one of the first young couples to achieve such a successful business
1995
Once the parents' business was stable and they had a steady income, Nari was born on the 22nd of October, 1995
She was born in Sydney, Australia, where she grew up for most of her life - thus, becoming an Australian citizen
She visited China when she was a toddler during holidays so her mother's side of the family can visit, which is when she began to learn Mandarin alongside English (and also received Chinese citizenship)
2001 - 2007
Nari attended Primary School in Sydney, but whenever it was the holidays, she would travel to China with her parents for their work
Sometimes she would stay in China with her grandparents while her parents travel elsewhere, though her parents always make sure to keep in contact with her and finish their work as soon as possible so they can reunite with their daughter
Occasionally, she would have holidays in Australia and be with her father's parents so she can also enjoy the life of Australia - this usually happens if her parents worry that they're bringing her around too much and not letting her enjoy the childhood that she should have
2008 - 2012
When Nari started high school, she would attend the first six months before she joins her parents overseas as their work started to become more demanding. While overseas, she would be homeschooled by the top tutors in China/Japan, and would also receive extra lessons to improve the language and how to act in public
Since her parents' business is well-known, it is expected of her to make appearances sometimes at some events so she would be trained on how to act professionally and 'noble' around her parents' coworkers and partnered businesses
Because of this, it was hard for Nari to relate to her high school classmates back in Australia as they didn't have the lifestyle she had, and was often bullied by her classmates for being 'rich' and being treated like 'royalty' most of her life. Because of this, Nari dropped out of the public high school in the last year of high school and did homeschool for the rest of the year
2012 - 2015
After completing Year 12, Nari decided to participate randomly in SM's Global Auditions after coming across SHINee and Exo on the SBS Channel in Australia on the show called 'PopAsia'
After passing auditions, Nari moved to Seoul with her parents (which is when her parents started making partner business in South Korea) and began training at SM
Due to her homeschooling which consisted of a variety of subjects that included musical instruments and languages, Nari became one of the top trainees that SM kept an eye on (also because they realised who her parents were, so they respected her), but this led to jealousy with other female trainees - thus, pushing her away from them, and instead drifting to the male trainees who would later become part of the same group
2016 - 2019
After a lot of hard training, Nari debuted in 2016 with NCT U and NCT 127, receiving lots of criticism and hate for being the only female member in NCT - on the other hand, there were some who recognised her for being the daughter of her parents, so they found her amazing for being an idol
By NCT 2018, fans became used to her and began to like her - especially when she debuted in 2019 with WayV and SuperM, because they got to see more of who she was and see the talent she had
On the other hand, there were some fans who didn't like the fact she was in multiple groups, claiming her to be stealing the attention of other members and commenting on her upbringing again
Bonus: 2019 is the year she and Taeyong began to date
2020 - Present
After covid struck the world, Nari decided to devote that time to exploring other areas such as music production which she then helped produce most of NCT's songs from that time and onwards (also choreography)
She also became interested in photography and afterwards modelling, accepting invitations to fashion shows and magazine covers
She is now considered one of the top successful idols currently being the only female in NCT/WayV/SuperM, being talented in multiple musical instruments and languages, producing music and choreographies, and becoming a model for big fashion companies. Not only that but also becoming an iconic role model for youth - especially to the young women
Bonus: There are rumours going around that she might participate in some acting or variety shows, but nothing is confirmed officially due to her already busy schedule

..."I was born right before Australia — the "most successful multicultural society" in the world — elected Pauline Hanson to federal parliament, where she used her maiden speech to declare: "I believe we are in danger of being swamped by Asians."
But even before that, Australian migration policy was never truly welcoming to people who aren't white. There was the 1855 decision to impose a tax on Chinese migrants entering Victoria. The White Australia Policy made it difficult for non-European migrants to enter Australia from 1901 to the '70s. And since the 1970s, migrants from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa have continued to face racism.
People from migrant communities, like my parents, have succeeded in the 20th century in spite of the various hoops they had to jump through to call this place home. Many of their peers have toiled away, but not experienced the same success.
But it may be even more difficult now for migrants to achieve what my parents and others have.
My partner — who has lived in Australia for almost a decade, while working and studying for multiple university degrees — still doesn't know if she'll be able to live here long term. Many of our friends are in a similar situation.
Migrants can live and work in Australia for decades and still be uncertain about whether they'll ever be able to make a permanent home. There are some 12,000 asylum seekers in Australia with no permanent rights to work or study, while offshore processing still has bipartisan government support. And a 2021 study found three in four international students were being paid below minimum casual wages by their employers.
Meanwhile, migrants with disabilities or health conditions continue to be denied visas and permanent residency under the Migration Act's health requirement.
We are wanted for our cheap labour and interesting food, but we are still not fully welcome.
I won't be grateful while Australia continues to market itself as a welcoming country when in reality our policies tell migrants and refugees that we do not belong."...

New Budget Supporting Skilled Migration
Tumblr media
After the federal election held in May 2022, Australia’s treasurer Jim Chalmers delivered Labor’s first budget in a decade. The federal budget, unveiled on 25th October, brought to light the new Australian government’s priorities for the coming term, including changes in immigration.
The government led by PM Anthony Albanese has committed to improving Australia’s critical skill shortage by bolstering workforce planning. The Migration Program will have a planning level of 195,000 visa places to help tackle industry demands.
Skilled Visa
This year, the number of Skilled Independent Visa Australia will increase substantially — from 79,600 to 142,400. The visas included in this change are in the employer sponsored, skilled independent, regional, as well as state and territory nominated categories.
Employer Sponsored: 35,000
Skilled Independent: 32,100
Regional: 34,000
State/Territory Nominated: 31,000
The following visa places in the skilled visas category, however, have decreased:
Business Innovation and Investment: 5,000
Global Talent: 5,000

There is an allocation of points for age, education, work experience, and proficiency in language among other things. There is always a minimum of 65 points required.
Step 3: Competency Assessment
Arrange credentials and experience and forward an application to any assessing body. Engineers Australia or the Australian Computer Society for IT Professionals will be able to help you through with an application.
Step 4: Expression of Interest Lodgement
SkillSelect will allow you to lodge an EOI, which includes the name of your occupation and points score, among other details that are uploaded with the application.
