People don't talk nearly enough about Q in Bungo Stray Dogs. Even with their limited screentime we still got a massive insight into their backstory. Compared to Kyouka, who when we meet, presumably was aready in the PM anywhere from 6 months, to 4 years, making it possible that she joined at 10 years old, her being 14 in the current time.
We've seen how being a part of the Port Mafia affects different people, but no one has been part of the PM for quiet as long as Q, and we don't even get to see what their life was before the PM. But we can assume it nothing good. We know that Q is one year younger then Kyouka, but the diffrence between the two of them being, that Q joined the PM at 6 years old, or prehaps even younger. My theory is that Q was locked up for at least a few years in some sort of 3rd space (similar to Lucy's ability) possibly by Dazai's order.
Tumblr media
( Q, age 6 )
Character's like Dazai, Chuuya and Higuchi have a strong distain for Q, which means Q has been locked up for at least 4 years. Q supposed ranpage where they took out Chuuya's subordinates happend when Q was 9. (Q being 13 in the current time)
Compare Q to Yosano Akiko, who was 11 when she joined the army. And because of Mori's tactics and manipulation, earned the nickname of "Angel of Death". We saw in real time how quickly Mori is able to dystroy a person, make them a shadow of themself. How he turned a 11 year old, happy, friendly Yosano, who was ready to help anyone, into a child that was borderline shellshock, a person that was content to rotting in a asylum for the rest of her life. And after 3 years of her being unresponsive, in that said asylum, she still fought the idea of being able to exist as a real person.
The thing that stands out to me the most is that Q has more hatred towards Dazai more then Mori. Because we can safely assume Q was at least partially under Dazai's training, and we know Dazai does not have the most orthodox methods of beating new PM members into shape. The way Mori trusts Q to walk around and take the train on their own, without fearing that they might run away is really telling of how much the loyality to the PM was burnt into Q mind. We can imagine Q does not remember much of anything before the PM. Q has had only one place in this world untill now, and that has been being a killing machine for the PM, no questions asked, we can probably assume Q has no idea that they could leave.
The only autonomy Q has ever had is regarding to their power, but even that being dictated by Mori's orders. Q has no autonomy over anything in their life, if It's regarding if they want to kill people or not, if they want to help do the PM's bidding, or if they are content with being locked in, presumably, self-isolation for over 4 years. Lock up a 9 year old kid for 4 years only with their own thought's and be suprised when they turn out that way.
I've always thought of the parallels between Kyouka and Yosano, the same way both of them were made to hate their powers, Kyouka having to use it to hurt people against her wishes, and Yosano essentially being forced to make the people she looked up to, come to the brink of death, only to send them to die again.
Both Kyouka and Yosano were extreamly ashamed of their powers, becuse it made human life seem so insignificant, Kyouka being able to kill without actually being close to a target. and letting Demon Snow do it for her.
Kyouka and Yosano's abilitys are both not necessarily meant to hurt people, one being healing, and the other protecting it's user, not to mention, Demon Snow is a gift from Kyouka's mother, given in order to protect her.
Now, back to Q, a power, that we don't know that much of, for example, we don't know if the mind control could make someone feel at peace. But that wouldn't matter, because no matter how Q's ability was used, Q's ability can only be activated when somebody hurts them. No matter how much someone tries to use Q's for good, It will always hurt someone, that either being another, or Q themself. Do we really put it past the PM, in all the years Q was in training, to not have tourtured Q untill they got ahold of how their ability worked? The subordinates Chuuya talked about, are we sure that wasn't a cruel training for Q? Where Mori made people hurt Q, those people possibbly being people in the PM?
One is being forced your ability to cause harm, the other is your ability being designed to hurt you, and everyone eles.
If Q was subject to so much pain in their formative years, imagine how desensitized, they are to it. And all of this, the work of Mori, and the rest of the Port Mafia.
Tumblr media
When Q was kidnapped by Steinbeck and forced to hurt so many civilians, we saw how people are able to manipulate Q's ability against their will, and who's to say, The PM didin't do that aready?
We saw how Q says that they never chose this ability, and how they didin't understand why all these horrible things happend because of them, asking Steinbeck why this is the case, when everyone is supposed to be equal in the eyes of god. Steinbeck being that god does exist, but that he has no space in his heart for Q.
This makes it pretty apparent that Q has not wanted to hurt all the people that they did, but that they were conditioned to do so, by the PM.
Q hasn't been seen since, but I would really enjoy seeing Yosano and Q interact, becuse they share so many similarities.
I don't think there would be a redemption arc for Q anytime soon, but Q is very dear to me as a character, and I really want them to appear more, the only problem being is, I have a feeling they are once again, locked up.

~playing in the snow headcanons~
A/N: so I asked five of my friends if I should have snow or instruments be the main focus on what I was gonna write, and four of em said snow :3 so we got some playing in the snow headcanons with some my fav bsd characters.
Characters: Akutagawa, Atsushi, Chuuya, Sigma, Nikolai, Ranpo, Kyouka, Lucy, and Tanizaki
TWs ⚠️: Uhh- I don’t think there are any, but it is important to note that Kyouka’s is the only one that is written to be strictly platonic. You can choose romantic or platonic for the others :D GN!Reader
I think there are slight spoilers in Sigma’s?
Tumblr media
Akutagawa Ryūnosuke
It would take a lot of convincing to get that man within five feet of the door. And I mean a lot.
Why would you want to go outside in the freezing cold when you can stay inside where it’s nice and cozy?!
Once you explain to him that you want to play in the snow, he gets even more confused.
Why-?
He’d be sitting in a chair, his feet propped up on something with a book in one hand and a cup of tea in the other while staring up at you like you just grew two heads.
After you told him it was fun and something you really wanted to do, he stare for a second or two longer before spitting out a response.
“Okay….? Then go play in the snow..? What, do you need my permission??”
“No, I want you do come with me, Ryū!”
He would let silence envelope you so for a moment or so before saying a quick and simple “No.” and going back to reading.
After some puppy dog eyes and the best begging you could muster(along with a deal that you’d leave him alone for at least six hours afterwards) he’d finally go with you.
And when he was dressed up and finally ready to go outside with you, he’d watch you excitedly start making a snowman with a fond look on his face.(he will deny enjoying this for the rest of time.)
Atsushi Nakajima
He is hopping out of his seat and putting five coats on at the mere mention of snow.
Heck yes he wants to go out and play in the snow with you!
Did you even have to ask?
You could tell him to put some warm clothes on and be ready to go outside and he’d do it in a heartbeat and with absolutely zero hesitation.
The first thing he wants to do when yall get outside is make snow angels. And he wants your snow angel to “hold hands” with his (they’re just next to each other)
He’ll let you choose what to do next, deeming it “only fair” since he got to choose first.
“No- [Name]-San-! You get to chose!”
“But I don’t know what I want to do, Atsu, you should pick!”
It would be just a bunch of giggly “no you”s back and forth until you finally relent and ask to make a snowman.
And you best believe that he is going to make that the most cozy looking snowman you’ve ever seen.
It is going to be even more fashionable than Chuuya Nakahara. (No it’s not.)
Chuuya Nakahara
Once again, a lot of convincing will be needed.
What did you expect? The man is extremely busy like 24/7, he doesn’t have time to play in the snow?
But he can’t just deny you when you come up to him to ask him so sweetly if he can please come play with you in the snow.
He wants nothing more than to accept and make you happy, but he really needs to finish his work.
So he sighs and comes up with an alternative.
“How about this, [Name]. I’ll work for about another thirty minutes, then we can go outside, okay?”
“That works! Thanks Chuuya!”
“You’re welco-“
He gets cut off when you roughly wrap your arms around him in a quick hug before running off to do who knows what.
He stares off after you for a few seconds before turning back to his work with a shake of his head and smile.
(Extra bc we can’t end Chuuya’s w/o him actually getting outside 🤭)
When he actually finishes his work, he exited his office to see you already playing outside.
He decided that it would be most fun to quickly get ready and sneak up on you, who was busily forming the base of a snow fort.
There was a yelp as cold snow fell on top of you, and you turned to glare at the ginger who was smirking smugly.
But don’t worry, you got him back by pushing him over into the snow and dropping some snow down his shirt.
Sigma
Poor boy-
Being three years old, the poor guy has never played with snow once in his entire life.
So when you ask him to go with you, you’ll have to explain to him what the heck snowmen and snowball fights were.
He’s mildly interested when you do explain, but he doesn’t quite understand the point.
Doesn't being outside in the cold for a long time give you the risk to get sick?
Overall, he’s rather confused about the purpose of playing with cold, wet snow, but he’d agree.
Once he was free, that is.
And that turned out to be a lot quicker than he thought it would, perhaps it’s because your “silly” wants have peaked his interest.
He would quickly finish his duties his duties within the sky casino, and go to find you and get ready.
When you guys step outside, Sigma immediately felt chilly. The high altitude of the casino only making it colder.
“[Name]… Are you sure this is a good idea-“
He grunted as a snowball landed square in his face.
You giggled as you saw him frozen as he processed what you just did.
Before you could ask if he was okay, he quickly picked up some snow and threw it back at you.
He had a small smirk on his face, oh it was game on.
Nikolai Gogol
Oh boy.
He was the one who initially proposed the idea of playing in the snow, because why wouldn’t he.
He doesn’t care if he’s supposed to be busy, he’s dragging you outside with him whether you like it or not.
You could be busy, you could be relaxing, and he’s suddenly ambushing you and struggling to get a coat over your head.
He will make sure you’re nicely dressed for being in the snow.
After all, you’re no fun if you’re sick.
As he’s yanking you to your feet and dressing you in so many layers, you may as well become a fur ball at this point, he’ll be running his mouth, explaining in grave detail what he wanted to do.
“Okay, so first, we’re gonna make little forts, then we’re gonna hide behind them and throw snowballs at each other. Now- I promise not to throw them too hard, okay?”(that’s a lie, he’ll throw them as hard as he pleases)
You could only watch and nod as he led you outside to begin building.
I sure hope you wrote out your will.
Ranpo Edogawa
He’s busy eating snacks working at his desk, when you came in.
He took one look at your face and flushed cheeks from already having been outside for a while, and knew exactly what you wanted.
He debated whether or not abandoning his precious sna— I uh- I mean work just to make you happy.
He thought it over for a second and decided he could go a little bit without his food, and could grace you with his wonderful presence.
He stood up from his seat with his usual smirk and pointed his unfinished lollipop in your direction.
You didn’t even get to ask him before he started bargaining with you.
“I’ll go outside with you on one condition, you gotta buy me lunch.”
You paused, that actually didn’t sound that bad, so you agreed.
You two quickly got dressed (after Ranpo put his snacks away) and headed out of the office to play in the snow, leaving a extremely frustrated Kunikida at the door yelling at you.
It wasn’t very long before all the grass/ground surrounding the agency was covered in snow angels.
Kyouka Izumi
To be honest, I see Kyouka getting rather excited.
Sure she hadn’t done it in a long time, but Kyouka used to love to play in the snow when she was younger.
It was kinda a bittersweet thing to her.
So when you asked, she was more than willing to go with you. She gently grabbed your hand and led you all the way to her and Atsushi’s dorm to get some warm clothes.
Seeing that she didn’t have enough to comfortably be outside, you took your scarf that was hanging loosely on your shoulders off and wrapped it around her neck to help her keep warm.
Kyouka smiled at you when you did so then with increased energy, she took your hand again and made her way outside.
She immediately opened her mouth and tried to catch a falling snowflake on her tongue, being successful in doing so.
She turned to you with wide eyes and pointed at where the now-melted snowflake had been.
“[Name], did you see that?”
“Mhm!”
“[Name], let’s go make snowmen..!”
Before you could even respond, Kyouka grabbed your hand and jogged to the nearest open space to make a snowman.
You guys ended up making two, a bigger one complete with its younger sister.
Lucy Maud Montgomery
Lucy, much like Akutagawa, would decline immediately at first.
She’s in the middle of a shift, she can’t just abandon her job as a waitress.
Or so she thought.
Until her boss gave her the go-ahead that she could take a break and go play in the snow.
Her next argument would be that she was “too mature” to go play in snow.
But then you turned that right back around at her and asked if that meant you were immature.
She stuttered and blushed from embarrassment as she denied what you said.
“N-No-! I didn’t mean you were immature! I just-“
“Then let’s go!”
Cue you grabbing her arm and running towards the building door and shoving her coat that you stole earlier into her arms.
Lucy sighed and reluctantly pulled her coat over her arms and stepped outside with you.
In the end, you guys had a lot of fun running around and pushing each other into the snow.
Tanizaki Jun’ichirō
Actually, Tanizaki was the one who suggested the idea.
He said it would be a fun way to get a break from all their work(totally not because he wanted to show off his snowball fight skills, nooo-)
He would offer to fetch your coat for you when you agreed, doing so anyway when you declined his offer.
He held your coat out for you as he put on his own on, happily suggesting the snowball fight he was planning.
You agreed, not thinking about how he could use his ability to his advantage.
And that’s exactly what he did.
He hid behind a tree and made his illusion self dash to hide somewhere else, effectively turning your attention away from where he actually was.
He hit you in the back of the head a little harder than he meant to, and immediately stood up to rush over and see if you were hurt.
“[Name]! I’m sorry, I didn’t me— AGH-“
Karma came so sweetly as he slipped and landed on his back.
There were no hard feelings though, you guys called a truce and laughed about it for the rest of the day
Tumblr media
A/N: these were so fun to write, omg-
I hope you liked it! Please consider liking/reblogging if you did :3

ADA Dazai x Reader
💌Obligatory sex pollen fic I guess??💌
Summary: Certain abilities Dazai can dispel outright without touching the user. This has always confused the brunette greatly where the technical line was drawn. During Q's apocalypse, he couldn't bring individuals back to their senses but with Shiwabusa's fog he could prevent Chuuya’s ability from manifesting. Apparently this “Sex pollen” ability was more like the former example. Which left Dazai the only one conscious of their actions as everyone fucked like rabbits.
Notes: Based on a dream I had a few nights ago. At least what I can remember of it. It's got some plot holes & semi ooc but it was hilarious, I had to share it with the class.
Contains: sex pollen, dubcon, pregnancy, mpreg, pregnant Fyodor, Fyodor being painfully religious, 🍋
Wordcount 5,160 💌 Chapter 1 of ?? [I might actually continue this bc I want to see where it goes but not a priority unless ppl like it]
Next chapter =>
Tumblr media
After the Shiwabusa incident you thought most ability users left Yokohama but it turns out someone is hunting down the surviving few. It's the reason why the special divisions unit Ango is a part of reached out to the ADA. There had been missing people cases flooding his desk, all with one thing in common. Every last one of them had been ability users. This didn't seem like the work of the Decay of Angles or any other known organization on record. It didn't line up with their past methods and ideologies. Plus Dazai added that Fyodor would never be this sloppy. Most were taken in broad daylight with no concerns about witnesses.
Between Ranpo and Dazai, they were able to sniff out the new threat with ease but they still didn't have enough information to assume the motive behind the kidnappings. Ango could only give so much details to go on because the member of his team that was investigating this case also disappeared. The first priority would be to find the hostages. With that in mind Ranpo insisted on working alongside the remaining guild members and, for some reason Akutagawa. Your guess was that Mori sent him to reclaim some mafia members who vanished as well. Apparently Chuuya was also supposed to join the investigation but ended up being stuck overseas. Instead you were to partner with Dazai.
You and Dazai, Kunikida and Yosano, and Ranpo and Poe were on recognizance while Lucy, Kenji, Kyouka, and Junichiro were on rescue, leaving Atsushi and Akutagawa as a diversion first and foremost but if they can capture the culprits that's an added bonus. Despite splitting up, you, Dazai, Kunikida and Yosano ended up trapped in the same room. Not exactly trapped, you could use your ability to get out but you still needed info.
“This isn't looking good.” Kunikida said flipping through the radio frequencies. “The signals jammed.” He looked up at Dazai as he nodded. “They know we're here.”
“We walked into a trap” Dazai gritted his teeth. There was no way to warn the others. He pushed you out of the way frantically typing at the computer that you finally hacked into. You look back at the scattered files on the desk. You were kicking up dirt. So far you've found a comprehensive guide to all the missing people. Which you already had from Ango. The only difference is that this seemed like a test subject profile. The more you read through them the more you realized they really focused on the compatibility of certain abilities. That's when you smelled something alluring and you dropped everything.
Dazai heard the clattering and ignored it. He was pissed off. It felt like he was missing something glaringly obvious. He slammed his hand on the desk muttering under his breath.
“Anyone else find-” Dazai stopped mid sentence as he took in the sight infront of him. Kunikida and Yosano were looking at each other lovingly as they hastily stripped, and pulled the other close. That's when Dazai finally noticed the faint pink dust in the air. An ability?
“I know what they're trying to do.” You said standing in front of the distracted brunette. He snapped out of his stupor when you gripped his shirt. Your pupils were dilated and your breathing was ragged. Biting your lip, it took your last bit of sanity to not jump Dazai. You took a deep breath. “P-please touch me, before I can't think straight.” Your eyes were narrowing on his lips. The desire to kiss him while you fuck like rabbits was swirling in the pit of your stomach.
He reached out to touch your forearm but it didn't do anything to help clear your head. “Shit, you gotta be kidding me” You are trying to fight your impulses . Internally you moaned at the touch. Your head lulled forward pressing into his chest. You couldn’t describe it but something about his scent was luring you in. This is really bad. Dazai looked over to Yosano and Kunikida. They were being really lovey dovey and handsy. He gulped as he felt you unbuttoning his vest. He grabbed your hands to prevent you from undressing him further. “Stay with me (Y/N). What's their goal?”
“They,” you inhaled heavily “no I, want you to fuck a baby into me!”
Dazai blinked back at you dumbfounded. He took a step backwards, that's what he was afraid of. They were up against a sex pollen ability user and he was the only one not affected. He tried to push you away but he was conflicted, you had him pushed against the wall with your body. Dazai has had a soft spot for you that he never intended on tapping into. A crush? A sexual fantasy? He didn't want to explore it but here he was letting you paw at him while you stripped away your clothes. He's had dreams about this and now it's actually happening but it couldn't have been at a more inopportune time and place. Just staring into your horny hungry eyes already left him half hard and he cursed his body for reacting this way.
“Dazai don't you love me?” You cooed.
Love was a strong word, he would rather not think about but he was left at your mercy as you crashed your lips on his. He groaned into your mouth. This was the best and worst case scenario. Best because you are forcing yourself onto him and not someone else. He could only imagine the jealousy he would have felt if you ended up with any of his coworkers. Although this was the worst because he knows he’s not going to stop your advances. Slowly he slid down the wall and let you crawl into his lap. He couldn't say no to you. Dazai has always made sure to keep everyone at a distance but not you. His head and his heart couldn't be bothered to make decisions right now. He found his hands caressing you just as feverishly as you were feeling him. He should stop. Dazai was in his right mind you were not but your touch was intoxicating. He let you unzip his pants and set his member free. Dazai threw his head back as you fully engulfed him. You were so warm and wet with no prep needed, ready to take him in. This was wrong but it felt so right. Dazai has always found it easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission.
You were kissing his jawline and bouncing on him with such vigor he wasn't going to last much longer. You were both a mess and as he felt your walls shake around him he held you in place and finished you off with a thrust of his own. You both were spasming in bliss as he hit his climax. He had been too enthralled with his own pleasure; he forgot to think about why you all were here in the first place. He was about to ask you what it was you found when he felt you roll your hips again.
A jolt of pleasure washed over him as he gently held your hips from doing that again. He just came, he needed a minute. Dazai was easily overstimulated and he feared that he might not have a choice in a moment but while he still had the strength he needed to do something.
“But Dazai~” You whined into his ear “You need to fuck a baby into me! Once isn't going to cut it.” You struggled to move as he pinned you to the floor. He hoped with this new position you wouldn't be able to do that much damage before he was capable of another round. On the other side of the room he could hear Yosano and Kunikida still going at it. Sounds he really never wanted to hear from either of his colleagues. Dazai weighed out his options, grabbing for the files you dropped earlier. He dug out his phone. The signal was back, probably because they knew everyone would be incapacitated. He tried calling Ango to update him that the plan failed and everyone needs extracting now before the rest of you get captured.
When you finally came too you were exhausted and sticky with Dazai’s arms wrapped around you. You tried to push him away but his grip only tightened as he cried out “Aaahng~ Stop moving! I can't take anymore! Nghh~” He was trembling and breathing heavily like he was going to pass out.
“D-Dazai?” You don't remember anything past when you dropped the papers. You tried retracing your steps. It finally occurred to you that you were sitting flesh against Dazai’s lap, feeling the fullness of multiple rounds with his dick pulsing inside of you. You choked on a moan as you involuntarily clenched around him. The events of the evening were catching up with you. You had been begging Dazai to fuck you which is something you had always wanted to do but never had the guts to say. You've had a crush on him since you joined the agency but never tried to pursue a relationship with Dazai. Mostly because he was a massive flirt to most women. You would reciprocate his flirty jokes and he always gave you a look like no one's ever done that before. Playful banter aside you don't think it meant anything on Dazai’s end.
He whimpered in your ear again “hmmmng P-please don't move I swear I’ll explain. I just need a minute. You've been riding me for an hour I-” He was panting desperately trying to catch his breath. His fingers were digging into your skin to keep you as still as possible. “sex pollen user, couldn't stop it. Fuck”
You felt Dazai lift you up to pull out, gasping as his body slumped against the wall. You tried to move out of his lap but your legs were numb. Although the slight movement made you feel the cum dripping out of you. Your head was a mess. The words “you had sex with Dazai” were repeating like a mantra.
“I'm so sorry-” you had started to say but he grabbed your shoulders “It's not your fault. I could have stopped you at any point but I didn't know if we were being watched.” Which was true but definitely not the reason he didn't stop but you didn’t need to know that. “As soon as everyone was affected they stopped jamming the signal so I managed to have Ango send reinforcements. I should be the one apologizing for taking advantage of you.”
You were both at fault but not at fault. Net neutral you guess? You didn't dwell on it because you don't remember. Still you were embarrassed by everything. You know you weren't in control of your behavior but still. Dazai was being too dismissive about it. You wanted him to look at you disrespectfully. You understand that the mission comes first but you're still a woman. You have assets he should be ogling at. Like right now as your clothes were long forgotten about besides you.
As soon as you opened your mouth Ango and his men busted down the door. Apparently the rescue team managed to move all the hostages to Anne's room before the sex pollen hit the air and they were just waiting for it to dissipate. So the mission was not a complete failure like you thought. If anything you'd have to wait to see what Ranpo and Poe had discovered. All you were able to report was that they were trying to match make compatible ability users.
Ango tried helping you to your feet but your legs were unstable and you were back on the ground in a matter of seconds. It made getting redressed a challenge but Yosano was able to help. The doctor wasn't nearly as fucked out as you were but considering Dazai let you have your way with him it makes sense. Since your legs were still wobbly Dazai ended up carrying you out. This flustered you way more than the realization of having sex with your crush. His cum was currently inside you and somehow being princess carried was what made your head explode. You buried your face in his neck as you met up with the others. No one batted an eye except Ranpo who smirked and gave you a thumbs up.
On the bright side everyone seemed just as disheveled and out of it. You don't blame them either. Ranpo and Poe were probably just fine, you've always suspected that they were that close already but Poe was extremely skittish more so than usual. Both Atsushi and Akutagawa looked traumatized. Kunikida was in a similar state but Yosano didn't mind one bit. If anything, her being unfazed was unnerving everyone. Well everyone but Ranpo, Dazai and Akutagawa but you doubt Akutagawa would care even if he wasn’t so distraught at the moment. Whatever the case it was interesting watching everyone's reactions to whatever happened tonight. You were just glad that Lucy, Kyouka, Kenji and Junichiro didn't have to go through it.
By the looks of it the sex pollen user got away but Atsushi and Akutagawa did manage to tie up some goons for further questioning. After a quick debrief Yosano came up to you and pulled out a sealed tablet, instructing you to take it as soon as possible. A morning after pill, you assume. It suddenly clicked why she was so casual. Every time you've gone out drinking with Yosano she's always managed to go home with some attractive stranger. This was similar to one of her drunken escapes except this time Kunikida was the victim of her flirty advances. Poor Kunikida looks like he's about to kill himself for stepping outside of his ideals.
With everything seemingly done and dusted you all went home. Ango drove you all back to the dorms and you managed to walk to your room just fine. You were still haunted by the events you don't remember and you want to ask Dazai but then again maybe you don't. If you don't remember you could almost gaslight yourself into believing that it never happened. That way you could still preserve the idea that your first time with him will be special. Although based on the fact he dismissed it so easily, you don't think he finds you attractive in a sexual sense. Again you'll never know unless you talk to him but it's still embarrassing for you, but hey it could have been worse. Originally you were supposed to be on a different team had Chuuya not been overseas. Or maybe it was because Chuuya wasn't here that the ability user was able to incapacitate all of you. None of you were captured so it's fine.
Within the next few days everything went back to normal. Well close to normal, you still couldn't look Dazai in the eyes but you haven't partnered with him since that night. Currently you were with Kunikida and Atsushi for a mission. The boys have done most of the work but as you were finishing up one of the bastards tried to take you from behind. You dodged the initial attack but as you went to retaliate you froze. Your ability wasn't working. You ended up getting shot twice before Atsushi was able to get to you.
“My ability is gone, I can't feel it at all.” You coughed up blood holding your wounds. It wasn't fatal but you were losing blood and fast. Your vision was starting to sway as you were rushed to Yosano.
When you woke up you were in the infirmary at the agency. Atsushi was still getting checked out even though the tiger would ultimately heal any major injuries. As you sat up you felt the pain of the two bullet wounds. Normally Yosano would use her ability to fix it instead of letting you heal naturally. They both looked at you with a wary expression.
“Atsushi, can you check if Dazai’s done and send him in?”
He only nodded before scampering off. You tilted your head at why Dazai needed to be called in. Yosano sat next to you “How are you feeling? Are you able to use your ability now?”
You tried really hard but no dice. “I feel like I've definitely been shot twice but more unnerving I can't feel my ability at all. What's wrong with me?”
She nodded, handing you a cup. “I'll try to explain it if I can, but I need you to get me a urine sample. How long has it been since you ate?”
You looked at the clock you had breakfast at 9 and it was currently 4, whoops that means you skipped lunch. “About Seven hours?”
“I can give you painkillers after you get blood drawn. Not being able to feel your ability is throwing me a curveball so I want to make sure I check all my bases.”
“Okay.” You grabbed the cup and made your way to the bathroom. As you stepped out into the hallway you nearly bumped into Dazai, whose look of concern didn't go unnoticed but you only bowed slightly before you hurried off.
By the time you came back Dazai was already in the room. Yosano took the urine sample and walked into her office for a second before folding her arms across her chest. “There’s no eloquent way to put this and honestly as a doctor this is the grossest thing I've had to do but the reason why you can't use your ability is because Dazai’s sperm is probably still swimming around in your uterus.”
Your face started heating up as you stuttered “I-It's almost been a week how is that possible!”
Dazai hummed “Oh, so that's what the sample was for.”
Yosano rolled her eyes “Unfortunately” she frowned before she continued her explanation. “Technically it's only been five days and that's about the cut off for irregular sperm lifespans.” She walked back to her office and came back with two negative pregnancy tests. “I wasn’t too worried about the results since you took the contraceptive but it's my job to be thorough. You should be able to use your ability by tomorrow unless Dazai’s sperm is just as hard to kill as Dazai is.”
Dazai shrugged, “I'm just surprised this hasn't come up before. Back when I was-”
Yosano put her hand up “I don't need to hear the rest of that. It's bad enough we had sex ten feet away from each other.” Yosano looked back at you, “Until you get your ability back I won't be able to use my ability on you either.  For now you'll have to heal your injuries the normal way.” You nodded.
Unfortunately as tomorrow came you still couldn't use your ability. You glared at Dazai who laughed at the situation. He was having a field day with how powerful his seed was. You haven't told the others what was going on but you're sure all the adults understood why you were out of commission. Kenji was the only one who kept asking questions you genuinely didn't know how to respond to. He was so innocent and Dazai was playing into it. This was killing you. How are you supposed to forget that night if it's all anyone is talking about. Not to mention that you were basically tied to your desk for the time being taking painkillers like candy.
A few more days later and to mostly Dazai’s surprise, since Yosano was out on a mission, you still couldn't manifest your ability. This was getting ridiculous. At first Dazai joked about it almost having a sense of pride but today he had been awfully quiet and no one likes a quiet Dazai.
You had been more tired than usual. The injuries were taking their toll so you got up to make some tea in the office kitchen to help you relax. Today was a fairly busy day for everyone, but you. The others were all coming and going but you were still confined to the office. It was a jarring situation,  typically Dazai was the only one who had to heal like a normal human being. You sighed, pouring your tea.
“Still nothing?”
You turn around to see Dazai holding a small paper bag, leaning against the doorframe. You shook your head. “Still nothing.” You didn’t want to think about it but you set your tea down motioning to the bag he was holding “Is that what I think it is?” You took a pregnancy test the other day, Yosano gave you a pill, this really shouldn’t be happening. Actually, did you even take the pill? Thinking back you were exhausted and out of it and you remember drinking water and going to sleep but did you not actually take the pill? Your head was hurting just thinking about it.
“Only if you want it to be. I can throw it away if you'd prefer.” Dazai put the bag in his coat pocket as he approached you. “To be honest I'm not sure if I want you to find out either. Logically I doubt you are, because if you were, then your ability should have come back by now. My DNA would have turned into our child's DNA and the nullification should have stopped.” He stood next to you leaning back on the counter. “However if you somehow are, I fear it wasn’t just a sex pollen ability at play.” He grit his teeth yet another ability he wasn't able to negate the effects of.
You looked at him eyes wide. That was their true goal. “They were trying to breed ability users.” He nodded as he looked down.
“That's why they waited for us to show up. I have a feeling they were after one of our abilities. Which is probably why Ranpo paired you with me. A copycat ability is already strong as it is but in the wrong hands it would be astronomical.”
You swallowed hard “I don't know how I feel about this. I kinda don't want to know because if you're right then what? If I'm pregnant then somehow everyone is pregnant? How would that work for the guys? Would you want to keep the child, or wait if it's an ability, is it even possible to keep the child?” You looked at Dazai, he was clearly uncomfortable with your questioning. “I guess I should probably take it before I work myself up over nothing.” You held your hand out lowering your head, waiting for him to give you the test. He raised an eyebrow “Do you want moral support or?”
“Depends if it's positive are you going to go buy milk and never return?”
“No promises, I never planned on having kids.” He shrugged.
“No really? I'm surprised” you said sarcastically “I've always wanted kids but I don't think this is the right time.”
Dazai stood outside the bathroom while you paced back and forth. The wait was killing you. You still had a minute left. Grabbing the test you opened the door. “Dazai we're friends right?”
“I would say so. Why?” He gave you a quizzical look.
“I just wanted to make sure that you don't hate me? I don't know, that might change in a second.” You bite your lip as you flip the test over. Sure enough it was positive. Dazai leaned over your shoulder causing you to nearly drop it. “Well, I still don't hate you in case you were wondering. If anything I hate that what I speculated may be right to some degree. Which is more annoying than anything else.” Dazai's eyes narrowed thinking about, for lack of a better moniker, the anti-Fyodor. What were they trying to gain out of making more ability users?
Dazai didn't move and being in his proximity after finding out he did in fact fuck a child in to you, was making you dizzy. “I need to lay down”
You moved sluggishly as Dazai reached out and touched your shoulder “If you need anything just let me know. I'm the one who's responsible for all of this. I'm not going to make you do this alone.”
You both made your way to the couches in the waiting area as Ranpo came back from his mission. Dazai pulled him into the other room presumably to update him on the situation. That this “threat” isn't over and indeed was just the beginning.
You carefully laid on the couch your thoughts were scattered. On one hand you were glad it was Dazai but at the same time this just makes your relationship more complicated. As your eyes slowly close you realize you never actually drank your tea either. There was a good chance you forgot to take the pill too, it's probably still in the pocket of what you wore that night. Yawning you shifted to make yourself more comfortable. It had been hard sleeping the past few days but the pain has decreased significantly today. You were so lost in thought that you didn't even notice that Dazai draped his trench coat on your sleeping form. He stood there for a moment thinking about how cute you looked while you were sleeping.
He wondered if his kid would look as cute. Speaking of kid, he should probably check on Ranpo. Dazai only took a guess at who the other possible pregnant people were but knowing that Ranpo is often lazy and chooses to forego physical activity if he could help it, he wouldn't doubt for a second that he had Poe do all the work. As he walked into the bathroom Ranpo was already using his glasses to stare down at the pink piece of plastic. The detective frowned, discarding the spectacles.
“I blame you for this.” Ranpo showed the other the result. “This probably means Atsushi is also pregnant?” He took a deep sigh before adding “Things are about to get a lot more complicated.”
Dazai frowns. “No kidding.”
Ranpo smirks, opening his eyes to look at you on the couch before addressing Dazai again as he walks away. “Congratulations by the way.”
It had been about a month and morning sickness was no joke. You would rush to the bathroom midsentece if you even felt remotely queasy which was a stark difference to how the other two handled it. Ranpo had placed waste receptacles around the whole office but still ended up puking out the window once or twice because he couldn’t be bothered to move the three feet to use a bin. Atsushi on the other hand would grab a waste bin but would end up swallowing it half the time off of pure reflex because he didn't want to waste food. The first time you watched him do it you and Ranpo immediately grabbed for a bin. Today hadn't been too bad for the nausea but you might have spoken too soon. You watched Atsushi perk up standing up from his desk.
“Knock knock!” out of thin air a familiar yellow portal appeared at the entrance. Your favorite jester took a bow before he opened his cape to release who knows what into the office.
“Nikolai!” Atsushi was the first one to jump into action as the rest took a defensive stance waiting for a fight. Dazai pulled you behind him as Fyodor casually stepped through the overcoat. “Long time no see, Dazai.”
“Fyodor, why are you here?” It was more of a statement than a question.
The air was tense as Ranpo crossed his arms “Don’t tell me you're also pregnant!” Everyone looked shocked and waited for confirmation.
“I am and the child is an affront to god. That is why I've come to inquire your services. I require assistance with the abomination.” He motioned over to Kunikida “I made an appointment under a different name.”
Kunikida raised an eyebrow as he looked through the client meeting list and sure enough there was one scheduled for an ambiguous medical inquiry. “You came to get rid of the child?”
Gasping Fyodor looked taken aback. “Absolutely not, for a man to be pregnant is a miracle. Although most doctors are ill equipped to accommodate for the male anatomy.” He placed his hand over his stomach for emphasis.
Dazai rolled his eyes. “I thought you said it was an affront to god?” He crossed his arm clearly trying to upset the other.
Fyodor glared at Dazai. “It is but having an abortion is a worse sin than the child being born of wedlock. Nikolai will simply kill the child after they are baptized. I am here to take advantage of your doctor, as they are already overseeing male pregnancies.”
Atsushi was confused how Fyodor was even in the same situation to begin with but even more so now after hearing his reasoning for coming to the ADA. “Why don't you guys just get married? I don't know, it just sounds like a lot of work if you plan on killing the kid anyways.”
“Do you have any idea how difficult immigration can be? It is disgustingly time consuming to get married overseas.” Fyodor groaned “Not to mention the child will be a Japanese citizen while Nikolai is Ukrainian and they do not allow dual citizenship, it's all so messy.”
Ranpo walked up, putting a hand on Atsushi’s shoulder. “He's right you know, it's a massive pain in the ass.”
“Of course it's a pain in the ass we're here on work visas. I'm not dealing with immigration, I'm a terrorist not a psychopath.” Fyodor seemed to slump into Nikolai’s side as the white haired man held him upright “Dos-kun you should probably sit down.” the russian nodded and let Nikolai lead him into the waiting area.
Yosano looked over Kunikida's shoulder. “If they have an appointment I guess we should at least hear them out. Especially if what he says is true and he is with child.” This was all incredibly bizarre for everyone.
Dazai nodded “Fyodor wouldn’t make his presence known if he didn't have something up his sleeve. Any insight Ranpo?”
Ranpo had his glasses on and shrugged “It all checks out. He's not lying about genuinely coming here for medical attention but I suspect they were accidentally caught by the sex pollen. They probably had planned to wipe out as many ability users as possible but underestimated our opponents just as we did.”
You turned to go make tea but Dazai immediately grabbed your arm “I'll handle the tea. I don't want him getting too close to anyone just in case he tries to pull something.” His serious expression softened as he patted your head. “You should go rest for a bit too. You're still healing.” You nodded with a light blush on your cheeks.

Someone please give Atsushi a break, because he won't be okay after all of this.
Like, you know a chapter isn't going to be good when these are the first panels
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
As expected, that Tanizaki really was a illusion of his ability, which he apparently activated when Kunikida was attacked by the divine being last chapter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even though this is a really popular theory in the fandom i didn't expect it to be real (i always thought they were weird due to some childhood trauma or something like that), nor that it would be revealed at a time like this, but is good to know that they weren't actually incestuous.
The Tanizaki siblings have always been characters that intrigued me, and i really hope their story can be explored further after the end of this arc. Apparently, not even Naomi herself knows about her own origin, considering that Tanizaki wrote a note about it and left it well hidden, and now he asked Atsushi to pick it up and, from what the manga implied, give it to Naomi, so she could knew about his family in case he died there. Which makes me wonder how important or dangerous her real family might be, and that maybe that's the reason why Tanizaki has always been so overprotective of her, along with his somewhat violent personality.
I haven't read The Makioka Sisters and Naomi, so I won't comment too much because I'll end up saying something that doesn't make any sense at all.
I REFUSE TO COMMENT ABOUT HIS DEATH. No, no, no, i won't talk about it.
I know that these death will probably be undone, and that they are happening more to show how a real battlefield is, even with ability users, to make Atsushi feel completely alone again, until Akutagawa finally arrive and the two fight against Ame-no-gozen, but it doesn't change the fact that characters i like a lot are being turned into BUBBLES AND EATEN BY THIS ELDRITCH GOD!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We got Kenji and Tetchou back but at what cost.
Kenji is just so happy to be able to help his friends. He doesn't even care if he's going to die, because Atsushi is going to live, and that's enough for him. He tells Atsushi to move on while he dies, beacuse he knew Atsushi needed to go somewhere safe!! THIS IS A FOURTEEN YEAR OLD TEENAGER, HE SHOULD BE AT SCHOOL, NOT AT WAR!!
And Atsushi is so desesperate due to the fear of the divine being and the pain of seeing his friends diyng in front of him that i want to give him a hug.
Tumblr media
Literally the only good thing in this chapter was finding out that Lucy and Kyouka are fine, traped, but fine. At least they're not dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE AUDACITY.
YOU JUST KILLED THREE OF HIS FRIENDS, OF COURSE HE'S NOT ALRIGHT??
Leaving the negative feelings aside, we FINALLY had an interaction between Fyodor and Atsushi! If we don't have explanations about Atsushi's past and powers in the next chapters I'm going to go crazy. I know this will be traumatic for Atsushi, but Fyodor knows more about his powers than Atsushi himself, and I think it's time we know more about him, especially the connection between him and the book.

Forever mad about how little background we get for the bsd women. Margaret says she wants to restore her family's honor but we have no idea what happened with her family, or why she chose to do this herself. We have no idea why louisa joined the guild or what her life was like before it. Kouyou is literally one of the highest ranking members of the port mafia and we only have crumbs of a backstory for her, and none of it mentions how she got to be where she is now. Gin is one of the only prominent characters with no special ability and is part of the black lizard, yet we have nothing for her backstory despite how much we have for her brother. Naomi is in a similar situation. Several characters, including Higuchi herself, have mentioned that being in the mafia doesn't suit her, yet how did she get there? We have no knowledge on her ability beyond knowing that she has one. And she has a sister! That she lives with! Does her sister know anything about all this?? Haruna has no special ability (that we know of) yet ended up not only in the ada but also being the one natsume chose to stay with (at least for a period of time). And even among the women that do have more fleshed-out backstories like kyouka, lucy, teruko and aya, there's still plenty of gaps that could be filled in/expanded upon. Yosano has the most detailed backstory but even with her, I still feel we could have some more (and in my humble opinion, we could have dwelled on her backstory at least a little more). I just!! I'm tired of the 5d mental chess games. I want to see the ladies get some backstory

you know what time it is
I feel like a lot of people were split about if tanizaki would get killed by gozen or not and im. not surprised that he did kfbfnf he almost had it! and then lost it. oh well. rip
anyway!!! THE GUYS!!!!! they're back!!!!! HORAY!!!!!! I think it's neat that kenji got a hit on amenogozen since a part of his ability is literally being a force to be reckoned with. unstoppable force vs immovable object.
and then he gets murked
BUT HIS DEATH WAS REALLYYYY COOL!!!!! amenogozen is so cool guys you HAVE to trust me
she was really imposing this chapter!!!! she's been imposing for the past couple of chapters but we get to see her in like ACTION action I think is what gets me.
also she's bleeding into the pages. she's interacting with the paneling. she's disturbing the peace and status quo. ITS SO COOL!!!! her Big Ass Sword ends two panels and her silhouette is too big that her head peaks into a different panel. ITS SO COOL!!!! I love her so much
AND WITH KENJI SHE SLICES THE PANELS PHSYICALLY!!!!! ITS SUCH A NEAT EFFECT
uh. anyway. back to normal. lucy and kyouka are jumping into the fray!!! oh boy!!! oh no!!!! I have faith that they will find a way and come out of it alive. indomitable human spirit go
I think the reason everyone is dying from a narrative point is mainly to push atsushi into fighting gozen. that's the only way I can really explain it. he's usually conflict avoidant when it comes to fights and usually wants to talk it out before he resorts to it but the way that it's going I feel he will see the need to fight along the way.
also I truly thought akutagawa was gonna show up but I was deathly wrong JDBDND
anyway!! scared. scared for the next chapter
OHHH i love hearing ur thoughts. there’s so much going on this chapter it’s crazy .
im not surprised exactly by tanizaki either. Oh. imagine if this is him using light snow or something and really messing with everything . i wouldn’t be happy if that was the plot but it wouldn’t surprise me lol.
i agree the visual effects are really cool! i don’t read a lot of manga but this is definitely a really neat approach i’ve never seen before. it shows how terribly over it seems to be and i genuinely don’t know how they’ll get out of this.
lucky and kyouka look so pretty in these panels too like harukawa made them stun in their return. i feel like an update on so many povs means they’re trying to bring things in now. the next few months will be hectic to say the least
i like your idea about atsushi. usually he can be sympathetic but if we can see him do something out of pure Hatred and have him lose it i would not be mad. he deserves it
akutagawa is taking aya for ice cream or something trust 🙏🙏 they’re both happy i swear

so, kyotag, your super honest opinion about bsd characters please (aka, who is your fave and who is your least fave. i promise, i am not trying to get you 'cancelled', i am just curious!) 🎤
Ever since I've gotten this ask I've been trembling, I don't think I can ever give bsd honest opinions for the sake of my own future mental sanity LMAO. The upside is, I can talk plenty of the characters I like!!
My favourite character is Kenji! For real, ahah. I'm just always drawn to characters that are just... Good. little guys only trying to do their best and be kind. I suppose there's also a factor of “that's who I want to be” that makes me like them in particular. I don't like the direction they went for Kenji's character in chapter 100.5, but really? I wasn't particularly let down by it either, like it's so fundamentally coherent with the worldview bsd expresses, if anything it was chapter 13 that was out of the scheme. I'm a professional canon ignorer at this point and I'll keep doing just that ahah.
Tumblr media
↑ Saw this scene for the first time in the anime, went “Slay! Communist king!”, and he's been my favourite ever since lol.
Although, if we count in Beast, then my favourite character overall must be Beast Atsushi. I mean, have you seen him... Most fucked up guy ever. He went through unimaginable trauma and he still kept being so soft at his core. He just wants to live but everyone is making it so hard for him. He cares for Kyouka so much and he cares for Dazai so much and (to me) he cares for Akutagawa so much like little traumatized boy how did you manage to save all that love in you despite the Horrors. I can't put in words how much I love him but really he's the only character I can say I really sympathize with, like, I want good things to happen to him. I want him to spend the rest of his life coddled and adored.
I love all the female characters <3 I ADORE Kyouka, I think among the other female characters she's the most multilayered and complex character with a structured and compelling story arc. I think she's seriously nice, I really love this stark contrast between her sharp, cynical side and her side that is so sweet and kind and so utterly 14 y/o, and I love how these two sides aren't really in conflict but just come to be together and make her so authentically Kyouka. She's so dear to me. Also, she's the only female character who can compete with the s.kk / ss.kk four for the role of main character, so like, I'm rooting for her ahah.
I adore Yosano for self-explanatory reasons lmao. The chapters of her backstory may not be my absolute favourites for a mere matter of personal taste but I definitely think they make for the best written chapters in the whole manga. I really like how sensitive she is of others' suffering, I think she's amazing– I think her compassion is truly amazing. I want to read more stories of unapologetically compassionate characters. I also generally really really love “older sister” kind of characters!!
I love Kouyou with all I've got. I'm sorry, I genuinely think her story was this good on mistake, but still. I think her backstory makes her genuinely intriguing, I think she's extremely cool and powerful and a joy to see in action, I think toxic mother / daughter relationships are super fun to explore, I think she deserves so much more spotlight and should be back as soon as possible.
I love Mitchell lmao. Like I know it may not look like it but I truly think about her 24/7. I just love women that are kinda silly and over the top. She's got like four lines and every single one is a gem and I adore all of them. She's got those big evident flaws and they make her so human and likeable!!! She's my best friend. Not to mention how loyal she is and how much she cares about her family, I really like those traits of her. Oh, and gowns! I love love love gowns.
Okay but seriously I love all female characters. I didn't like Lucy in particular at the start but she's really grown on me and now I adore her with everything. Wells is spectacular and I need her back as soon as possible. Every woman I didn't mention, from Higuchi to Egawa, believe me I love with all my heart.
I went off a tangent I'm so sorry </3 I know you asked for one character, but how can I not mention the others??? It's just been so long for me in the fandom now and I just can't but grow attached. And I've got so much untapped love for women I never get to talk about on my silly blog that focuses on two men. Following up the list, would be Akutagawa. And I don't want to talk about him because I suppose there's no need to after having made one trillion posts about him but also can I just say? I like him for the same exact reasons I like Kenji. She's just a guy trying to be good. The difference is that he sucks so bad at it, and it makes him SO fun to explore as a character. I really have so much fun playing with him. Then would be Tachihara, Jouno...
... ........................ For the characters I like least, I suppose, R/anpo. I'm so sorry peoples. In R/anpo's case, it's just... Why do you have to be so mean and disrespectful all the time. Seriously, dude. Why is he always treating others as less than he is. I'm sorry, I really am, but I just can't help but find it displeasant? Like it takes zero energy to treat other people with common human decency, c'mon dude. At least Akutagawa is trying to do better, but everyone treats R/anpo like he's entitled to be a jerk? Idk man.
K/unikida. In his case, I Do Get why he's the way that he is (and genuinely can relate to him to an extent), it's just... For the way I am, I consider to try and forcibly impose your own ideals on other people to be about the most insulting thing you can do. And he does that a lot, with Atsushi and Dazai and everyone else. He also has this whole forced lack of empathy thing going on like... I get why he does that, and I get what he went through that made him like he is, but that doesn't change the fact you're kinda being a dick to everyone all the time dude. Please get some therapy.
That doesn't mean there aren't moments when I've genuinely liked them both and found them seriously cool!!!! I still think K/unikida is an interesting character and I genuinely get why people like him. I love the helicopter scene, I remember when I was reading the manga for the first time, when he said “no one ruins my schedule”, I was like, whaa, I was completely in awe. For R/anpo too, the Untold Origins arc from what I could see from the anime was really nice, and I also highly enjoy that one scene of his in chapter 81, the “To tell the truth, I had absolutely no assurance they'd believe me”.
Thank you for the ask Nyusa!! I hope you could find this at least a little bit interesting (?). If anything, now you know a little more about me, ahah. Also not talking about Dazai this time because really I can't be here the whole day.

Anyway. I just have come off from seeing last week's episode (ep 12) and while I fully support bashing it, I WILL grab a shovel and dig for some positives i found in it, so...
- Atsushi apologising to Lucy for her help because it'll brand her as criminal is REALLY sweet and all, but my boy. My dear tiger. She used to be a part of the Guild (which I know skirts international laws and all but...)
- Love. LOVED seeing Fukuchi say how much "the lone wolf" has changed BECAUSE HE HAS
- I do like that I think, so far, we haven't seen a distinct ability colour for Tachihara's ability (we might've in Yosano's ep but memory)
- Tecchou stabbing Jouno in the foot. Beautiful
- Teruko's VA. The way she switches from sweet child to cool child to just child to Adult like the TALENT
- I don't know why but the fact that Lucy's ability can go from glorified time refrigerator to the heart of the ADA's new base makes me laugh
- SIGMA. I'M JUST GLAD WE GOT HIM!
(But I want to jump on the bashing bandwagon so...under the cut)
Honestly? A lot of people have said it better than I have. And I'm not toooo familiar with the Skyfall arc, even though I have skimmed a few panels or chapters here and there.
But, hmm. My two cents on it was the classic too many characters, too little time.
Also, what I've seen, this arc is supposed to really sell just how desperate everyone is. Like, take Atsushi saying "this is Dazai's plan" after verbalizing what Ango said about getting the location of the page.
I think what this arc was supposed to do was sort of...gently refute that? Show that maybe Dazai's plan isn't the best plan or at the very least emphasize how it really is the desperation of ordinary people that move things along. Yosano said it in the manga. Dazai also said it. Even Fyodor.
I mean right here, the characters that are present might not exactly be ordinary people, but compared to the genuis and/or power of the other characters, people like the Hunting Dogs or Sigma or the Kyouka-Lucy-Atushi trio really are less extraordinary than people like Dazai, Fyodor, and Fukuchi. And yet they're the ones making (excuse the Englishy pun) the sky fall...
I think where the episode falls short the most is that they didn't capture that desperation of these guys, showing how they ALL really were just hanging by a thread. So manga skyfall, I think, shows not how Dazai's plan is supposed to work but how the intense determination and will of just some guys will make it work. Or how the plans of genuises will fail and STILL there will be ordinary people to get back up and try again. Tachihara literally using his identity crisis to overpower the book. Teruko using the simple act of growing up to stop a plane. Atsushi, Kyouka, and Lucy with their powerful abilities but comparatively "lesser" intellect figuring things out through their empathy. Sigma and his desire to belong.
Something something step 1, the ada loses credibility via powerful book. Step 2, normal people struggle and sometimes fail, sometimes come out on top of powerful book...and it sure hurts a lot

There's a Will; There's a Way (Book 4) Chapter Twelve
Dazai Osamu x Fem! Reader
Chapter Twelve: Revelations
Summary: (Y/N) discovers Sigma's information, and she, Ranpo, Atsushi, and Akira go to meet an old friend of Fukuzawa's.
“I know where the Page is,” said (Y/N).
            The others widened their eyes.
            “How did you…?” asked Ango.
(Y/N) looked down at her hand. “Sigma told me…when I tried to save him, when I held his hand. It was probably his gift.”
“Could it be a trick?” Akira raised an eyebrow.
“No.” (Y/N) should her head. “When it happened…the look in Sigma’s eyes…he’s not lying.”
“Why would he tell the enemy?” questioned Ango.
“I don’t know.” (Y/N) shrugged. It could be because Dostoevsky betrayed him, or… She could picture his defeated face. He’s broken and lost. He has no idea who he is. Maybe…he’s learning right from wrong. It’s a small hope since he works with terrorists, but…there’s a tiny bit of good in him. “I just know he isn’t lying. Not with where the Page is.”
            “Where is it?” asked Atsushi.
“The least likely place that anyone would hide it, but at the same time, the best way to protect it,” she said. “The Page is with the Decay of the Angels’ boss.  It's with ‘Kamui.’ ”
            “Kamui?” asked Akira.
“It’s some sort of codename. I don’t know their real name or background, but I do know they have a powerful ability and they’re the mastermind behind the Decay of the Angels,” said (Y/N).
“Kamui…” said Kyouka. “If we defeat them, the incident would end?”
“Yes.” (Y/N) looked at her friends with serious eyes. “Let’s defeat them, together.”
            “Hell yeah,” said Akira.
“Then…that important Kamui person, where are they now?” asked Lucy.
(Y/N) furrowed her brow. “I got a lot of information from Sigma. Some of it is still…blurry, out of reach. The only thing that comes to mind is the picture of a gasmask.”
“If we can find some sort of stimulus, it’s possible you could recover more,” said Akira.
Ango nodded. “Some sort of sting or strike would work best.”
“Touch her and you’re dead,” said Akira, glaring and extending her claws while Kyouka nodded in agreement.
“Well, then, how about the following?” offered Ango. “I’ll read into (Y/N)’s ability with mine. Moreover, if it causes me a sense of pain and the memories are put in order—.”
“I’ll throw you into the wall afterwards!” chirped Akira, clapping her hands.
(Y/N) was about to admonish her when bloodlust struck her heart. It was an overpoweringly cruel and evil emotion. Pure shadows gripped her heart like a parasite. Her own fear was swarmed by killing intent. Someone was planning murder.
“(Y/N)?” Akira frowned and knelt next to her friend. She could see the disturbed look on her face and was concerned.
(Y/N) stood up abruptly. “We need to leave right away.” She nearly collapsed as bloodlust flooded her again but steadied herself.
            “Are you alright?” asked Atsushi.
“I know where Kamui is,” said (Y/N). “They’re in the middle of an assassination plot.” Her eyes hardened. “Their target is the Armed Detective Agency! They’re taking us out one-by-one!”
l
“The number you’re thinking of must be…381,882, right?” said Dazai.
“Correct, and your number…is it 790,115?” said Fyodor.
Dazai huffed and leaned back. “Aaah, this is no good! The number-guessing game is too easy! Ah, right. Next we could play poker from memory or—.”
“Is it alright?” asked Fyodor, smirking.
            “What is?”
“Nothing. I’m just worried about the Detective Agency.” He smiled with faux care. “The Agency is as beautiful as the evening sunlight. And that evening light burns out in a moment’s flicker. Now that they failed in the aerial casino…they’re also as the fallen sun.” His eyes flashed. “Do you have time to be guessing numbers?”
Dazai blinked. “I do.” The words were stated as if obvious.
            “Oh?”
“Well, yes. (Y/N) is out there. The sun isn’t setting on the Agency.” Dazai smiled. “She’s my light. With her, the Agency will never fall to darkness.”
“My~.” Fyodor smirked, but a slight distaste at the reminder of (Y/N)’s being Dazai’s love left a sour look in his eyes. “It always goes back to my angel.”
“What can I say? She’s seems my brightest hope for a better future. For the world’s better future,” said Dazai.
l
(Y/N) was overcome with emotion. The Agency now stood in Anne’s Room all together. Katai, Ranpo, Yosano, and Kunikida were free. They were back with the Agency. Ranpo had managed to bring them all together again and contact Ango before Kamui killed them. With (Y/N)’s information and the detectives reunited, hope’s flame grew brighter.
“You’re alive!” Tears welled in Atsushi’s eyes. He launched himself and Kunikida and hugged him.
            “Akiko!” Akira grinned in relief.
“Akira!” Yosano hugged her dear friend. She turned to (Y/N) next and embraced her. “(Y/N)!”
“Yosano! You all made it! We were so worried!” said (Y/N).
            “I wasn’t that worried, I know you’re a badass,” said Akira, shrugging.
Yosano rolled her eyes playfully. She knew Akira had been concerned.
            “K-Kunikida!” cried Atsushi.
The others looked over and gasped. Where his hands should be, there were two bandaged stumps.
            “Your hands…” breathed (Y/N).
“I’m sorry, I, uhm, didn’t know,” said Atsushi.
“Don’t worry,” said Kunikida. “Dr. Yosano is here.”
Yosano grinned. Her ability would heal Kunikida.
“This is what it’s like when the Agency is all together,” said Ranpo.
“Right. Even if we’ve no spirit, we have (Y/N). Even if we’re wounded, we have Dr. Yosano. Even if we’re taken by the enemy, we have Ranpo,” said Kunikida. “Between the six of us together, there’s nothing we can’t do. The Detective Agency, as organization, draws that strength out of us.”
“That’s right. The enemy new that, that’s why they had to cause an incident to get us divided no matter what,” said Ranpo.
“But we won’t move like they expect us to anymore, right?” asked Atsushi hopefully.
“Although it’s not flawless yet…” Ranpo looked around. “Kunikida, you go search for Kenji and Tanizaki. With that, the Detective Agency will finally be together.”
Those who can be found…(Y/N) knew that finding Dazai was impossible at this point in time. Not with Dostoevsky and the rest of the world against them.
            “Understood,” said Kunikida.
“What will you do in the meantime?” asked (Y/N).
“Me? Isn’t it obvious?” Ranpo grinned. “I’ll have the most interesting part of the job. I’ve waited long enough to contact ‘him.’ ”
            “ ‘Him?’ ” questioned Akira.
“Fukuchi. The president’s old friend, the leader of the Hunting Dog’s,” said Ranpo. At the others’ alarm, he continued, “The boss was interrogated by him. He believes we are innocent. He is influential and out best bet to gaining allies to clear our name.”
(Y/N) frowned. Maybe the Page can’t work on everyone…After all, it didn’t work on Akira. She is a criminal, though…but I trust in Ranpo. He knows best and will adapt if needed. And it could be that something in Fukuchi’s past lets him be free of that particular passage on the Page. We have no idea how it works.
“Where is he now?” asked Akira.
“He is going to speak in front of a gathering of world officials,” said Ranpo. “We’ll speak to him after.”
“Sneaking onto a military encampment? Daring, I like it,” said Akira.
“We have a chance!” said Atsushi in relief.
It certainly seems that way, thought (Y/N), but she had a sinking feeling in her stomach.
l
Atsushi, (Y/N), and Akira waited anxiously for Ranpo to arrive. He had gone inside one of the large tents to speak to Fukuchi first. The other three had donned military uniforms over their outfits. They were standing on the large passenger ship and pretending to be workers.
“Do you really think this is going to work?” murmured Akira to (Y/N).
“If Ranpo thinks it will, then it has some merit,” said (Y/N).
Akira shrugged. “Hopefully that merit’ isn’t just bringing us closer to the enemy and giving us a ‘chance’ to beat them.”
            (Y/N) frowned. She has a point, unfortunately…
“Ranpo’s here!” called Atsushi. “And someone’s with him!”
“So the negotiation went well,” said (Y/N) with her earpiece.
“Of course,” said Ranpo. “What about the smuggling preparations?”
“As you ordered them,” said Atsushi. “There’s no surveillance in the city. The special Boswellian passenger ship for distinguished visitors, we can infiltrate it.”
Fukuchi jumped onto the ship, displaying his incredibly athletic prowess. “There are far too many guards in the rooms where each country’s ambassador stays. From the Yokohama Sea to the arrival point, it’s twenty-five minutes. We’ll hide out here.” He looked around at Akira, Atsushi, and (Y/N) seriously.
(Y/N) held back a look of confusion. Did he…No, I imagined it.
“Y-Yes, sir,” said Atsushi, taking off his military uniform with the others.
Akira didn’t like being ordered around, but since (Y/N) needed him on the Agency’s side, she would behave. Well…she’d at least try.
“Do not get caught by the patrols while it’s moving. Look out for the sound of footsteps,” said Fukuchi.
            “Yes, sir,” said Atsushi.
            (Y/N) nodded.
“Eeeeh?” Ranpo had climbed his way up. “Is someone who’s called a hero gonna get arrested just for waking around? What an uncool middle-ager!”
(Y/N) sweat-dropped, Atsushi panicked, and Akira snickered.
“This has nothing to do with being a hero,” said Fukuchi. “The onboard guards are security details. Therefore, their duty is not to the ship’s protection, but to their own countries. If they spot criminals, they’ll shoot without question.” He blinked. “Also, don’t call me middle-ager.”
            “But you’re a middle-ager,” said Ranpo.
“I still have my youth! My body is still strong.”
            “Ehhh? On what side?”
            “My behind and such…”
Akira was trying her best to avoid laughing while (Y/N) sighed and sweat-dropped.
            “H-Hang on, Ranpo!” said Atsushi.
            “What?” asked Ranpo.
“This is a valuable alliance! Mind your language a little more…” said Atsushi.
Fukuchi chuckled. “I don’t mind, I don’t mind! This kid, you know, he’s just jealous. This kid’s known Fukuzawa for thirteen years now, and yet that’s not even half of my time with Fukuzawa. Whether your time with him is fourteen or fifteen years, it’s absurd to think you’ll surpass me on that, isn’t it?”
“Huuh? I’d forgotten that,” huffed Ranpo.
Fukuchi guffawed. “With the power of your memory, isn’t it impossible you’d ‘forget,’ kid?!”
“Either way, don’t call me kid!” said Ranpo while Fukuchi laughed.
So this is the leader of the Hunting Dogs…? (Y/N) deadpanned as the group began traversing the ship in order to avoid possible patrols.
“So, then, the mastermind behind everything, ‘Kamui,’ who could they be?” asked Atsushi.
“Don’t rush,” said Ranpo. “First, join forces with the Hunting Dogs, then identify Kamui based on the military police’s classified data. Those were the president’s orders. Unlike a murder case, this time it’s not solved by knowing who the culprit is. We have to be discreet.”
“Alright…,” said (Y/N). But we need to find out as soon as possible. We have less than ten days until they write on the back of the Page.
“Do we even need that classified info?” asked Akira. She gestured to Ranpo. “Aren’t you super smart or some shit?”
“Yeah!” said Atsushi. “Ranpo, you could still figure it out!”
He grinned and pulled out his glasses. “Could it be you want to see these?”
            “Er, well,” stammered Atsushi.
“No, of course that’s no good. How childish you are,” said Ranpo. “Although…if you really, really wanted to bend the order of my work, I’m not saying there’s no way.”
“Is he asking for a bribe?” whispered Akira.
            “Not exactly,” responded (Y/N).
“Yes! This is it!” Atsushi pulled out a soda bottle.
“Have you been walking around with that?!” asked Akira.
“Eh? Yes,” said Atsushi as if it was obvious. “When I’m working with Ranpo, I always do, just in case.”
“It can’t be helped, huh.” Ranpo had a drink. “Well, being looked down on by an old man is no fun, either.” He smirked and put on his glasses. “Shall we keep this secret from the president?”
(Y/N) narrowed her eyes. We’ll know who Kamui is, finally. That’s a good thing, so why does the air feel heavy around me?
Ranpo frowned in concentration as several moments passed. His eyes widened and mouth dropped open. The soda slipped from his hand and, almost in slow motion, fell towards the floor. It shattered.
            “Ranpo?” asked (Y/N) cautiously.
He didn’t answer and walked to an emergency flare. He lit it and held it above his head.
If he’s willing to give away our position with a smoke signal…something is very wrong!
“(Y/N),” said Ranpo, getting her attention. He had a serious face which no one present had ever seen on him. “I’m sorry. I was wrong.”
Fukuchi brought a sword down on him.

Bungo Stray Dogs - Kafka Asagiri/Sango Harukawa Volumes 7-8: “I like Dazai a normal amount,” she lied - A commentary (*anime spoilers)
-JINKO ATSUSHI AND DAZAI ON THE COVER, HERE WE GO
-THE COLORED PAGE OF DAZAI AND ATSUSHI, I LOVE THEM IT'S BEAUTIFUL
-it kind of amazes me that higuchi had to look at dazai's records to learn who he is. it amazes me that he isn't a local legend turned into ghost story for the newer mafia members
-could it actually be that cruelty "bores him, really"? current dazai isn't cruel. he's many things, but not cruel. could it be that he actually got so desensitized to it, that from cruel he turned to not cruel because it all became boring?
-i need to know, asagiri-sensei, did you sense that dazai would become so popular, did you hope, did you have a hunch. i had the same question on aot's levi, and i had it answered
-that's what i'll be saying if present timeline dazai gets transferred to the port mafia too: "why would mori-san, a paragon of rational logic..."
-DAZAI IS SO PRETTY, I CANNOT. i mean, erhm, yes, plot, interesting, very
-great job at drawing Q scary enough to justify dazai's "!" reaction. great job (i first wrote "dazai's shocked reaction," but "shock" feels too heavy of a word for dazai)
-i can just picture atsushi lamenting for all the clothes and shoes he destroys when he transforms
-okay no, that's decidedly an untainted eyes shocked dazai, when he realizes what "for his safety" meant. also my, what poofy hair for manga dazai <3. erhm, i mean, plot, yes, interesting, very (*i jest, i love the plot)
-but also, dazai's safety? really? what would anyone do to him in this situation? he'd cancel Q's and atsushi's abilities. nonsense, they just wanted him to not do that. great moment for atsushi though
-i mean, even the fact that you'd think of going so far as to "ponder the morality behind your[the agency's] plans" is progress for you, my dearest dazai
-THE BITCH SLAP, I LOVE THAT MOMENT
-"i have no right to whisk you away from your own past" that's such an interesting notion
-"stop feeling sorry for yourself. as long as you do, your life will be an unending nightmare."
-state of dazai's neck bandages: they're always there! always there!
-pff louisa is adorable
-genuinely, i'd like to see just a glimpse on what dazai has on chuuya, on kouyou, on everyone that's so terrified of his capacity to blackmail them/keep them quiet
-okay, but the spread of dazai pointing a gun at ango. iconic. ango's seen dazai for two seconds and he's already exhausted. dazai is tainted-eyed. all is well.
-i mean, ango having wiped your record clean is a Pretty Big Thing, dazai, you have to admit
-the walking whiplash that is dazai
-i think this is a great arc to show what exactly dazai does with information. how he makes educated guesses and plans, how he gets more info, how he reacts and adapts based on what he learns. later on, at least in the anime, after you've taken for granted that yeah okay dazai is a genius and probably has fifty plans hatching in secret, and with all the mind-fuckery going on, it's easy to forget that it's an actual process that he goes through, and it's very nicely laid-out in this comparatively more small-scale conflict
-man, i do love atsushi, he's so. SO! adorable, sweet, pure little flower, pinch-his-cheeks, feed him a cookie, pat his little head, protecc him.
-TAINTED EYES KYOUKA
-why is atsushi "the guide to this book," did we ever learn?
-DAZAI'S WIDE EYE WHEN HE SEES THE MARK ON KUNIKIDA! also, kunikida my man, what did you do to the poor trees, i didn't think you were like that
-i love the translator for translating "hohh?" as "hohh." you could have said "oh?" but you went with "hohh?"
-lucy calls atsushi "a poor lil stray cat," cat-theme, cat.
-lucy is an ada/pm shipper confirmed, and highly relatable
-CHUUUUUYA
-idk man, i think atsushi is a very compelling MC
-me: ffs, akutagawa, stop it with needing dazai's praise so desperately. also me, when dazai tells atsushi "you did really well": omg he praised us :") he said "really well" omg :') dazai omg :")
-dreamy princess dazai on the cover
-i see you fukuzawa, on the same spread with dazai. REMEMBER DAZAI, YOUR BLACK SHEEP SON, FUKUZAWA?! REMEMBER HIM?!
-dazai: "haaaaah... i can't muster the energy for anything..." relatable
-I AM SO IMPRESSED BY THE ALWAYS-THERE NECK BANDAGES EVEN IN THE TINIEST MOMENTS
-EIGHT YEARS AGO, LITTLE WHITTLE 14-YEAR-OLD DAZAI, HE'S SUCH A KIDDIE, LOOK AT HIS BIG EYES
-isn't it funny how it's basically because of atsushi's suggestion that the agency starts communicating with the port mafia and they start cooperating regularly? isn't it funny how our Sweet Summer Child MC did that
-pardon me, i don't like what i'm saying either, but why is mori-san so babydoll when talking to fukuzawa. he's extra smiley and sparkly
-see, see, dazai says it clearly to mori-san, "i don't want to team up with you either." PLEASE take tanizaki-kun!
-"twin dark"? double black is translated as twin dark in the manga? interesting.
-chuuya so fine
-WHAT IS THIS PAGE OF SMOL CHUUYA AND SMOL DAZAI LOOKING AT EACH OTHER AS THEY'RE BEING SEPARATED! WHAT IS THIS TINY Q WITH HIS SLIPPERS
-chuuya so smol :")
-"and there was only one doorknob" (*on dazai and chuuya both reaching out to open the door)
-you say you drank wine to celebrate that dazai left, chuuya, but all i'm hearing is "i got myself drunk 'cause i couldn't deal with it all"
-why does chuuya look so concerned that the curse hit our agency, what
-ah yes, my ship, walking bag of bandages/hat rack
-anime, manga, anywhere i see chuuya call dazai's name in concern, i just melt, i cannot. icannotcope
-chuuya "herding dog," mafia, dogs, my point.
-"and i hope your hat seizes your consciousness and kills you"??? that's creative.
-i almost said "chuuya is such a sweetheart," ffs. HE IS NOT, but you know what i mean. running to dazai, telling him he can't die in a place like this...
-is that a bare elbow i see? IS THAT A BARE ELBOW BEYOND THE CAST, NO BANDAGES?! dazai you minx
-CHUUYA'S SO SHORT COMPARED TO DAZAI, I CANNOT <3
-"TWIN DARK SIDEKICK"?! that's a low blow, dazai
-dazai's so starry-eyed at corruption
-is chuuya conscious through corruption? does he remember what he's supposed to do, does he remember what he's done after?
-DAZAI LEFT CHUUYA BEHIND AND WENT HOME?! JESUS CHRIST, DAZAI!!! ffs.
-is there anything more terrifying than having dazai bring you flowers and a fruit basket. you know nothing's good coming out of it
-so what we are saying is a) dazai and his tainted eyes either predicted the guild would attack ango or arranged the mystery vehicle attack for blackmail reasons, most likely the latter, which, fine, and b) that dazai fiddled with the airbag of the exact vehicle ango would take? what if he'd taken another vehicle? dazai, let's talk.
-WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU ERASED YOUR ENTRANCE EXAM FROM YOUR MEMORY, TANIZAKI, EXPLAIN! WHAT HAPPENED, HOW BAD WAS IT!
-"WIMPIEST IN THE WEST/WIMPIEST IN THE EAST" AHAHAHA
-"stagger," "cough," coughing blood, bring our boy aku-kun to yosano-san ffs (CAN she heal him? how much can she heal?)
-even though dazai and ranpo are both geniuses and both reach similar conclusions, their individual brand of genius just FEELS different. dazai's a strategist and a coordinator, ranpo is a puzzle-solver. it just tastes different, even though the result is the same-ish
-there's something so sweetly non-MC-heroic about atsushi telling dazai they should cancel the plan and find shelter when he learns the moby dick will drop on top of the agency. you think it's gonna destroy just the agency? the general populace doesn't even cross his mind on that instant, and it's so naively sweet
-atsushi's so strong, mentally. he struggles so much and he is so strong, fighting against himself, against his upbringing, and coming up on top. i'm sure he has no idea, but there is such strength in his choices and his actions
-okay, but hear me out. i want tanizaki to be the one to go to pm, no question about that, BUT. wouldn't it be interesting if atsushi was the one to go, and there was a repeat history of the new double black, only this time it would be atsushi dragging aku-kun towards the light kicking and screaming rather than two darklings enabling each other? an interesting thought. anyway, yes, please take tanizaki.

"but that hell raised you properly" ummm. meanwhile atsushi with 27 different mental issues, nonexistent self esteem, not valuing his life at all, believing he has to "deserve" getting to keep living.......... listen dazai all the "altruism" and heroisms aren't really coming from a great place I don't think it worked out man I don't think suffering makes you noble if that's what you're implying rn. also you're dazai so whatever you say is automatically discarded anyway but, you know.

Who I want see joining the ADA
Basically, I'm going to talk about the characters I want to see them joining the ADA. After all, with more people they will be even stronger. These are my opinions by the way, you don't have to agree or disagree. Anyways let's start! Spoilers warning ❕
Katai
I know he's been and is a part of ADA but I want to see him more often in the agency. He's very underrated to me. So in his case it's not 'joining' but rather 'being more active'. Or at least that's what I think and say.
Lucy
She got that character development so well! And it's especially nice to see her working with Atsushi and Kyouka. I liked that trio so much in the casino arc. And she's been helping them for a while, thanks to Atsushi. So it would be even better to see her as an official member. Even though I consider her already as a member she hasn't taken her entrance exam yet (which is understandable after we all know what's going on the whole chapters lol).
Poe
But you know his case is just like Lucy's. He's been helping them for a LOT. He deserves to be an official member. I love how he pops out at the random times to show his novel & talk to Ranpo. And again just like Lucy, he also didnt take an exam. But along with her I'd like to see them joining. It would also kinda be funny considering how they were co-workers once in the Guild.
Aya
I know she's just a kid lol. But as shown in the manga, she has that heart to save people and current chapters show it pretty well. When she grows up, she will be a great candidate for them. And also seeing her work with Kunikida, yes that's gonna be so chaotic lol.
Chuuya
I think apart from the others I've mentioned, Chuuya joining ADA is a very more popular thought. I think we can say that many people wants him to join there. After all Chuuya is a selfless character whom can risk his own life to save his city and its people. Which is pretty much proven in the Dead Apple. And not just this, he is good in heart. He treats his subortines well, cares for people around him, his loyalty, treats animals great etc. And it's even canon that Asagiri mentioned this in Beast. I'd like to see him doing good stuff because we know he isn't a bad person. He had to be violent or he was gonna lose Sheep and now Port Mafia. And again seeing Dazai and Chuuya in the same agency would be some funny shit lol.
Possible Higuchi???? Tho i bet if Aku doesn't join then she won't too lol
----
Yeah, pretty much them. Which characters would you like to see them joining the ADA??

DOES ATSUSHI'S HEALING INCLUDE HEALING TRAUMA - INDUCED IMBALANCES IN THE BRAIN ? IF SO, THEN WHY ISN'T THAT HAPPENING ?
---------------------------------------
Depression, anxiety, stress - these manifest due to changed levels of neurotransmitters in the brain (high dopamine and very low serotonin). Extreme trauma also damages brain function and decision - making abilities. Severe PTSD causes career and relationships - threatening negative reactions AND destroys the ability to feel positive emotions, resulting in chronic depression.
Atsushi can heal his body indefinitely. But all the PTSD and trauma from his job that is bound to age a person's brain, can he reverse that too? If he can, do his emotional issues persist because he wants to hold onto his trauma, as others have pointed out? But why does he do that ? Does he hold onto his traumatic memories so that in the future he can recognise warning signs of abuse and danger like the ones he faced at the orphanage ? Maybe he thinks that by forgetting these depressing incidents he'll lower his guard. Or, as others have said, his past abuse is his motivation to prove the Headmaster wrong by choosing to live even through pain. So he thinks he'll lose the will to live through suffering if he forgets his past. Maybe he compares every bad occurrence to his childhood, and tries to feel grateful that at least he's not sequestered away from opportunities anymore. At least he is free to experience various posdibilities for the future now.
Through chapter 65, we know Yosano cannot heal psychological trauma. But memories and negativity have a physical existence in the brain, as neural links, affected brain regions and neurotransmitters. Then why can't she heal that ? Did her soldier patients accumulate depression even after repeated healing, because they got to know about the horrible effects of their situation through information? Or if her ability can heal trauma but can't erase memories associated with it, did the soldiers again and again realise that their situation was hopeless, even if they used their past memories to avoid repeating their past fatal mistakes ?
Does Atsushi hold onto trauma for the aforementioned possible reasons, OR because his ability can't erase factual memories associated with his trauma, but can only erase the hopelessness and depression the memories cause ? In the second case, so when he's in a dire enough situation, will his factual brain put two and two together and tell him he's gotten into horrid shit ?
Since Atsushi isn't healing his trauma, will he end up depressed without hope like Yosano's soldiers? He's facing so many completely new dangers back to back. Or will he not end up that badly, since people like Naomi, Tanizaki, Kyouka, Kenji, Lucy, Kunikida genuinely care for him and do their best to protect him? It all depends on how devastating the threats that the ADA deals with become.
I want to see Yosano be more protective of Atsushi, by realising that his fate could become disturbily similar to that of her soldiers if things go wrong, eapecially simce he is so idealistic and impressionable.
(DON'T DARE TO PLAGIARISE OR REPOST MY ORIGINAL POST)

BSD characters as the real authors' quotes!
Dazai:
“I thought, “I want to die. I want to die more than ever before. There’s no chance now of a recovery. No matter what sort of thing I do, no matter what I do, it’s sure to be a failure, just a final coating applied to my shame. That dream of going on bicycles to see a waterfall framed in summer leaves—it was not for the likes of me. All that can happen now is that one foul, humiliating sin will be piled on another, and my sufferings will become only the more acute. I want to die. I must die. Living itself is the source of sin.”
-Osamu Dazai (1973). “No Longer Human”
Chuuya:
“Searching for memories that aren’t there, this heart of mine closes itself up”
“I’ve grown accustomed to it all, and have leaned to bear it but sometimes any degree of loneliness can bring you down”
-Nakahara Chūya (1937). “The Poems of Nakahara Chūya”
Oda:
“I had been devoting myself to writing, an occupation that by rights out inevitably to set one to mulling over one’s youthful experiences.”
-Sakunosuke Oda (1913-43). “Stories of Osaka life”
Atsushi:
“Soon the world below my eyes had changed its appearance in a moment. The colorless world, in a flash, had begun to shine with brimming colors. The sun had risen from beyond the eastern rock knoll, which is invisible from here. What magic!”
-Atsushi Nakajima, “Light, Wind, and Dreams”
Yosano:
To punish men for their endless sins, God gave me this fair skin, this long black hair!”
                                                            - Yosano Akiko, “Tangled Hair”
Fyodor:
“It takes something more than intelligence to act intelligently.”             ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1866). “Crime and Punishment”
Nikolai:
“This world is full of the most outrageous nonsense.
                                                               - Nikolai Gogol, “The Nose”
Kyouka:
“I don’t have to tell you how despondent I was. But I suppose a dark place like that is better than daylight for strengthening one’s faith and pondering the eternal truths, even for a coward such as myself.”                               - Izumi Kyōka, “The Holy Man of Mount Kōya”
Kunikida:
“By suggesting this solution I had opened an escape route. ‘Honest’ men like me are always tossed by the waves, yet we manage to ride them.”
                                                      - Kunikida Doppo, “An Honest Man”
Tanizaki:
“I’m beginning a diary of my own. Someone like me, someone who doesn’t open [their] heart to others, needs to talk to [myself] at least.”                                                          - Tanizaki Jun'ichirō, “The Key”
Kenji:
I’m no longer afraid, even of a darkness, as fathomless as that is. I’m sure true happiness can even be found within it. Let’s search for it, however long it takes, or however far we must go.
                       - Miyazawa Kenji, “Night on the Galactic Railroad”
Ranpo:
“My methods are a bit different from yours. Physical evidence and things of that kind can take on all sorts of appearances depending on the point of view. The best method of detection is psychological: to see through to the depths of people’s hearts. But this is a problem of the detective’s own ability”                - Edogawa Ranpo, “The Case of the Murder on D. Hill”
Akutagawa:
“Life is painful, and that’s why we know pleasure, too. People die, making us aware of life. To be free of pain and death would be tiresome. Better to be an ordinary mortal, knowing pain and death, than to be an immortal.”

Ango:
“Hide a mistake with a mistake. Hide a crime with a crime. This trick cleverly uses human nature to turn to the tables to one’s advantage.”                              - Sakaguchi Ango, “A Family of Shoplifters”
Poe:
“Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.”                                                              - Edgar Allan Poe, “The Raven”
Lucy:
“Love! What a searing, torturing, intolerably sweet thing it was–this possession of body, soul and mind! With something at its core as fine and remote and purely spiritual as the tiny blue spark in the heart of the unbreakable diamond. No dream had ever been like this”                                    - Lucy Maud Montgomery, “The Blue Castle”
“People laugh at me because I use big words. But if you have big ideas, you have to use big words to express them, haven’t you?
                     - Lucy Maud Montgomery, “Anne of Green Gables”
Mori:
“I don’t care what situation a person’s in, he has to pay back what he owes someone else. You’ve got to be faithful to your obligations.”
                                                              - Mori Ōgai, “The Wild Geese”

The Strength of Selfishness
Each character in BSD has a degree of selfishness or selflessness in themselves, but the way this concept is executed opens discussion on the nuance of “selfishness,” or specifically the flaws in believing selfishness is an inherently bad trait.
Atsushi
Atsushi fits the description of selflessness, but I’d argue that he’s actually more selfish than he thinks he is (keeping in mind that being selfish isn’t necessarily a bad thing).
Tumblr media
Akutagawa points out how Atsushi will needlessly risk his life in order to protect others, which sounds like a pretty heroic act, but it comes with a cost. Atsushi isn’t invincible, especially at this point in the story when he hasn’t fully mastered his ability, but his insistence on protecting others puts him in constant danger.
At the end of the day, Atsushi would have a greater chance of surviving many of the dangerous situations he puts himself into if he was more selfish by protecting himself before others.
However, Atsushi is also somewhat selfish in his motivations for acting so virtuously.
Tumblr media
Once again, Akutagawa points out how Atsushi only acts this way because of his deeply rooted belief that he has to risk his life for someone else in order to give his life value. You could argue that Atsushi only saves others as an attempt to prove to himself that he’s worthy, an inherently selfish motive. If Atsushi actually died, he would be endangering the people he could save in the future.
Tumblr media
Selfishness also includes self-centeredness. Particularly with Akutagawa, Atsushi’s tendency to focus solely on himself becomes especially noticeable. Atsushi constantly doubts himself and his strengths; he also ignores his privileges and the struggles of others, particularly when he can’t completely understand them — hence why he views Akutagawa so harshly but sees Kyouka and Lucy as people who need to be saved.
Despite all of this, Atsushi still creates a positive impact in other people’s lives. His innately selfish motivation is what drives him to protect others, and he ultimately succeeds in doing that (case in point Kyouka and Lucy again).
Akutagawa
Akutagawa is pretty similar to Atsushi in how his past led to his inevitably selfish motives, but his manifests in a different way.
Tumblr media
Akutagawa has to be selfish to protect himself, due to a mix of his past prior to joining the mafia and Dazai’s teachings that collectively reinforced the belief that if he’s weak, he can’t survive.
This results in Akutagawa taking other people’s lives, a direct contrast to how Atsushi saves others, in order to prove his worth as a strong individual that deserves to live. However, this sentiment narrowly crosses the line of hypocrisy when Akutagawa does the very same thing that he criticized Atsushi for: looking for value in his life through other people.
Akutagawa also unnecessarily risks his life in order to prove his strength, which is arguably more dangerous and selfish than what Atsushi does.
Tumblr media
When Akutagawa fights Hawthorne, he practically eggs on Hawthorne to kill him, or at the very least fight with the intent to kill. Akutagawa was also injured before entering this fight, so running away would’ve been all the more reasonable than continuing to fight.
Tumblr media
Drawing another parallel to Atsushi, Akutagawa has that very same resolve of risking his life unnecessarily to prove his worth.
It’s undeniable that Akutagawa has killed many people — which is arguably extremely selfish — and loss of life really isn’t something that I want to push as morally correct. However, I would like to push the idea of redemption: finding a way to escape this messy lifestyle. I sincerely doubt that the incessant cycle of killing is any good for Akutagawa, or that it’s the life that he wants to have.
With Atsushi and Akutagawa, both of their character arcs will develop accordingly to this balance of selfishness and selflessness.
Ranpo
Ranpo is characterized in a slightly selfish way, but this mindset comes with good reason (relating to Ranpo’s past).
Tumblr media
When Atsushi was kidnapped, Ranpo places priority on protecting the agency. If he were to meddle with Atsushi’s problem, which was technically a personal issue, then the agency as an organization would be put at risk. This isn’t necessarily a “wrong” mindset, but it is self-centered.
Tumblr media
Of course, this is one of many examples to showcase Ranpo’s arrogance, but his arrogance is actually a form of self-protection.
“So his father knew, after all. He understood that Ranpo possessed an extraordinary gift. He knew his son had the special ability to observe, remember, and uncover the truth in the blink of an eye. That was why he sealed it away. He didn’t want Ranpo to go astray, to ever hurt others and make the world his enemy.  His father wanted Ranpo to learn virtue and what’s right just like any ordinary person until he had grown up with good judgment and knowledge.” —  LN 3, “The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency”
Before Ranpo met Fukuzawa, he was just a young, lost boy who didn’t recognize his extraordinary talents. His parents taught him to be modest to allow him to develop as a normal person, but he never truly understood who he was in comparison to other people because he was orphaned at a young age.
Thus, Ranpo had to embrace his superiority, in an albeit dramatic way, in order to accept the world and himself. If he believed that people weren’t as intelligent as him, then he wouldn’t have to hate himself for feeling like an outsider to a world he doesn’t understand.
Similarly to Akutagawa, Ranpo’s selfishness isn’t born out of hatred or negligence for others, it’s simply a survivalist instinct.
Dazai
Dazai’s case is a little trickier to define, but I feel that he’s changed a decent amount throughout the series. I’ve seen some people argue that Dazai only helps others because of Oda’s dying wish, which would make his motivations for doing so inherently selfish. This rings true for Dazai before becoming a part of the agency, but I’d say he’s changed a lot just from interacting with the other agency members.
Tumblr media
Dazai’s shown to be capable of the selflessness that involves risking your life for others, but because he’s Dazai, he’s most likely never going to actually die (he has taken necessary precautions to make sure he doesn’t die like in Dead Apple). In this case, Dazai was willing to risk his life for intel from Fyodor, similar to how he got captured by the PM intentionally for intel on Atsushi.
What he says here is especially important: “Certainly, people are sinfully stupid. But what’s so wrong about that?” The Dazai that was once isolated from others, that lacked a sense of direction and purpose in life, has grown one step closer to finding that purpose.
It’s no secret that character to character relationships have a big impact on everyone in BSD, but it’s especially relevant for Dazai who’s growth comes from learning about human nature. He and Fyodor both share a level of super intelligence that ostracizes them from the rest of society, which consequently makes them incapable of understanding other people.
Dazai’s statement here just shows how he’s willing to look past people’s mistakes — yes, they may be sinful and/or stupid, but that’s just a part of human nature.
And in this case, he acts in a stupid way by risking his life for someone else. Yes, it may be stupid, but this selflessness is also a part of being human.
I’d also like to add that Dazai was somewhat selfish in leaving the PM so suddenly after Oda’s death. As an executive, he undoubtedly had some responsibilities to handle, and not to mention Chuuya who was dragged into the mafia because of him in the first place. However, leaving the mafia was ultimately better for his development, and you could argue that the PM is doing just fine with Mori remaining as the leader. Thus, Dazai is another example of how selfishness isn’t harmful in nature.
Mori
On the topic of Mori, he’s a character who outright acknowledges his selflessness as a necessity for the mafia’s advancement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As I mentioned before, selflessness is a stereotypically heroic trait, but it’s flipped around in BSD. You see protagonists with greater selfish convictions than the antagonists, who live their life based on this idea of selflessness.
Of course, just because Mori is an antagonist, this doesn’t mean that selflessness is an innately “evil” trait. In fact, this selflessness is how he grows his organization and gains respect from his subordinates. Mori’s selflessness is used for the benefit of everyone else in the PM (ignoring the obvious crimes that the mafia commits of course).
Oda
Oda is often seen as the role model example for a “good man,” in the world of BSD — which is true to a certain extent. We certainly know how he was selfless in a multitude of scenarios, from saving the orphans at the Dragon’s Head Conflict, to his resolve to not kill anyone, and his push for Dazai to leave the mafia.
However, I’d like to discuss Oda’s selfishness. Oda was well-aware of Dazai’s issues during Dark Era, and he seemed like the only person who would understand Dazai at that level. Despite this, he still chose to die.
“(Dazai) is just a child who’s too smart. Just a crying child who’s been left alone in the darkness, a world of nothingness far emptier than the world we can see.”
— LN 2, “Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era”
Oda is an idealist first and foremost; when reality fails to match his ideals, it becomes unbearable for him to continue living on.
Oda was selfish in his conviction to die, because he knew he could’ve done more for Dazai, but he chose to leave him with a dying wish rather than staying with him to potentially fill that void of loneliness.
(I’d like to mention that Oda wasn’t wrong for his choice, because Dazai ended up on the right path in the end. It was simply an act of selfishness that ended for the better).
Kunikida
Kunikida is an idealist, much like Oda, but he also draws close to being a realist at certain moments.
Tumblr media
Kunikida shares the same selfless resolve as Atsushi: to save everyone. His ideals seem unbreakable to the point where he would risk his life and succeed in the end no matter what, purely because he’s just that committed towards his goals.
This treads closely to Atsushi’s selfishness. In this case, for Kunikida, it’s somewhat a part of his self-fulfilling prophecy to make his ideals come true, but he acts selflessly because of these ideals that he believes in.
An important thing to note here is Fyodor’s grin, because Fyodor — as an idealist — is well aware of the fact that the greater the ideals, the loftier these ideals become in reality.
“By that very logic, then Miss Sasaki was not responsible for any of these recent events! She didn’t even want a world in which all criminals are rightly judged! She only— Tell me, Dazai! Was it right for her to die? Is this the ideal world I’ve sought for…”
— LN 1, “Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exam”
At the end of the Azure Messenger Arc, Kunikida realizes the flaws in his ideals when he fails to uphold them. By trying to save both Rokuzou and Sasaki, he ended up losing the both of them. No matter how hard he tried to save them, there was no possible way for him to achieve the level of “justice” that he desired.
This teaches an incredibly valuable lesson to Kunikida that shifts his mindset towards a more selfish direction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kunikida’s experience leads him to teach Atsushi, another person strongly motivated by ideals, to not follow the same path as him. You could interpret this as a sign of Kunikida’s declining resolve, but I prefer to view it as another form of self-preservation.
Kunikida very well understands the pain that comes from not meeting his ideals, which could easily affect to Atsushi considering how difficult it would be to save Kyouka.
Tumblr media
The scene in which Kunikida goes to save Atsushi parallels what Kunikida told him previously: “Your boat can only carry one person. If you let someone beyond salvation come aboard, you will only drown together.”
Notice how Kunikida is in a boat with plenty of space, but out of fear that his ideals won’t be upheld, he’ll lower them to an lesser standard. Instead of trying to save two people, he settles for one, despite the fact that he has the capacity for two.
This instance is a moment of selfishness from Kunikida, an act of self-preservation to prevent the inevitable pain that comes with unmet ideals.
However, Atsushi subverts his expectations by pushing himself to save Kyouka regardless of his sinking boat, because Atsushi’s own ideals motivate him to do so. Kunikida teaches Atsushi to be careful with the balance of selfishness and selflessness; Atsushi teaches Kunikida the beauty in being selfless.
