so, my partner read gideon the ninth in a single day (which is great and all their takes are correct). among other questions i had disappointing answers to (mostly "no we never learn what's wrong with the eighth house"), there was one i had no answer for: why did no one on the ninth have another kid after the two hundred died to make harrow?
their reasoning: "infants existing suggests that there are at least a few people of childbearing age who could potentially have had at least one other child, unless the gas that killed the kids made everyone infertile, i dunno"

People get really mad about this, but WHAT IF Corazon is alive?
I know I can really sound delusional after so many time (saw someone saying that if he did were alive, he would reappear in Dressrosa, but I think it would b too on top of the loop. Not Oda style). But WHAT IF!
There is a plothole for him to come back, we all know that. One piece characters don't die so easily. And when Doffy shoot him, what if he shoot the right spots so he brother doesn't die? Just like in One Piece Academy?
(probably failed not sounding delusional but)
So if there's a really tiny chance he's alive somewhere, with little memories maybe, wouldn't be a fun last challenge to Law?
Fight ur not so dead dad and get the One piece?
I think a heart wrenching aspect of Cora's 'uncertain' passing is that Law might've subconsciously waited for Cora during his stay at Swallow. Maybe 'silence' was dispelled because Cora san passed out? Maybe he survived gunshots like the countless wounds he survived before, and he was right about Doffy not having it in him to kill his brother? I've loved this comic for exploring this idea.
What if Cora is alive, though? I can indulge you a bit so people will think twice before calling you out next time 😎
Here's one in courtesy of Japanese YouTuber kayokky-ch. Back in chapter 49 during Baratie arc, the cooks described a customer like this, and it was never addressed afterwards :
Tumblr media
Aren't these some wicked coincidences? Red eyes, wine addiction, bursting in flames - all points click.
Add Oda's tendency to keep people alive. Theories write themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have seen Whitebeard and Ace's fruit re-emerged, but Cora's is yet to return. Oda has a knack to work with old bits of information he spread around, especially with Saul's comfirmed survival, you can speculate other possibilities.
At least, the possibility isn't at 0%, so if Oda wakes up one day and decides Cora's incredible popularity deserves some attention... it'll be controversial but not a complete retcon.
A definitive proof in favor of Cora's death was the mariner's report and the image they attached to it. At least, Sengoku was supposed to know.
Tumblr media
Unless you have a case where Cora was clinically dead for some time and then returned to life, and now Sengoku is keeping his survival a secret.
The theory above speculates that he might be "The man marked by flame", and that's why Law was particularly focused on when this mysterious person was brought up. I'm not sure what sort of agenda Cora would have if he returns. What's your theory behind Rosi possibly confronting Law, anon?
Tumblr media
Personally, I've come in terms with the fact that Cora has died. Although, It's a shame that Law never got to return his "love you." Since Oda was somewhat involved with One Piece Odyssey, I like to imagine that Law's words to Cora here are checked by Oda himself. I thought they were very sweet.

Thanks for the ask!

"I wouldn't trust a word out of that mountebank's mouth. not even televisually" ....
The show explicitly tells us not to trust anything Mr. Milchick says. Mr. Milchick tells us that the Outies consented to a two day work trip. But why would they even ask for permission to do that when we know they have no qualms lying to the Outies too. Thinking about the impies of that.
If Lumon lied to the Outies then they knew that the trip would take less than a days worth of time. Think about the events of the episode. Did that really feel like a whole days worth of time?
We see as they travel from the waterfall to the camp the first time that night begins to fall, but later it takes them only seconds to get back to where Irv has Helena at the pond.
I think I've been conceptualizing the lullaby switch wrong. I had thought it was a hard cut to sleep but I think that it is more likely that the name is literal. It lullabies them to sleep. THAT'S why Dylan uncharacteristically doesn't go after Irv. He was already tired from the hike, and the lullaby conked him out. Helena and Mark were too busy smashing to immediately fall asleep, but Mark starts to pass out immediately after. Irv passes out in the snow because he was lulled to sleep. We KNOW Lumon doesn't want them sleeping/dreaming because dreaming is where your subconscious connects. Irv has been constantly sleep deprived so of course he immediately dreams. How come doesn't Irv freeze to death in his sleep? Because they were only asleep for a few minutes.
I posit that they are in some kind of Lumon controlled environment and that Ms. Huang is the one doing all the switches. She is distinctly missing during the climb up the mountain and during the whole waterfall debacle.
Mr. Milchick, Ms. Huang, and Helena waited for the others to fall asleep. Helena wanders over to the waterfall to bask in all the things. Mr. Milchick and Ms. Huang switch the day/night cycle and turn off the lullaby.

So
First thing : I feel like the person X saw in Etho (in panel 2) is Evil X, I don't know it just feels like it, I mean yeah instead of yellow he should have had red accents and stuff, but... the shoulder pads are in simmiliar shape to those that EX has in your recent comic. It's implied that X was at least a bit scared of that person he saw because this is the exact moment he overpowers Etho, like he saw someone who's genuinely determined to hurt him + I can see that whoever Xisuma saw in Etho is holding a potion of what?? Still tryna to figure this out.
+ X cries a little when he flips Etho, still don't know if he does it because it's Etho and he doesn't want to hurt him, or because he still sees the other person in his friend and it's a bit deeper than that.
Second thing: Oh wow we got to see Xisuma's hair!
Third thing: I think that Etho most likely hurt/injuried/stabbed X at the end, or is at least about to do it, since we see the "DON'T" at the end- it's written in pink which is enough to signify it's X who's talking [CAN i ADD THAT IT'S GLOWING?? Like that must mean it's either important or loud] but we also get the "VOCAL RECOGNITION: XISUMAVOID" from Doc [thank you for this part it makes it even better sobs]. And now to the confusing point, from what I could figure, it looks like Etho is trying to stab X with the shard(?) or whatever that is, but It's not him, the person that's holding the shard has sleeves [we know that Etho wears a t-shirt in this] so now I wonder if it's a flashback to Doc's past since 1) his labcoat has sleeves [X has gloves so he definetely isn't the one holding the shard] 2) in the panel where he's reaching for the [whatever that is I don't know medical supplies] we also get a sort of flashback of him reaching for the shard. Which means that he probably had situation like this before (maybe that's one of the times when he lost his arm?)
Tumblr media
Also thank you for drawing that pure fear in Doc's eye when he heard X I love this
I LOVE THIS COMIC AND THIS AU

Question about the new mmni: if you buy a ticket will you be able to watch it later or is it only a livestream one? Just asking as the different time zones make it a bit hard to watch live
Hi! It is a livestream ticket, so you can only use the ticket to watch mmni live. You are not able to watch it later.
But not to worry! We are planning on grabbing and saving all of the livestreamed shows so that anyone who can't watch live can watch them later. Feel free to message me privately on here or email me ([email protected]), and I'll be more than happy to share it with you :) (this applies to anyone btw)
Hope that helps! And please let me know if you have any further questions :)

Love how all the chaotic ship art the crew draws is mainly just Benrius.
But I wonder if they drew any for Benji/wildcity?
Or did they all collectively agree not to touch that ship with a ten foot pole lol.

Do you think the reason that Starjun mimics Midora's hair is similar to children imitating their dad ?
Welp. I ended up going WAY more into this than I thought while looking for image references for this so I'll give ya the TLDR of my original headcanon and if you (or anyone reading this) wants to crawl down the rabbit hole with me, feel free!
TLDR; I (originally) thought Starjun's hair was similar to Midora's out of respect/admiration/possible sucking-up. (Because Midora's self-centered, Starjun could've been copying to win brownie points like how Setsuno makes Toriko wear his hair like Jirou, or Starjun did it unconsciously because he wanted to be more like Midora). And you could attribute that to a father-son sort of thing (y'know, 'child see, child do'). If that's what you mean?
If you think it's more of a familial thing, I would say there's definitely some foreshadowing hidden in the hair symbolism. (Details/spoilers below the cut because while I was responding to this I dug myself down a helluva rabbit hole).
ALRIGHT BUCKLE UP BECAUSE MOD CHEF HAS REALISED SOMETHING TRULY AWFUL ONCE AGAIN
I'm gonna start by pointing out that in the Toriko universe, although genetics is kinda played with loosely, it's established that people will copy the hairstyles of their relatives more than their mentors/role models.
The easy thing to do would be to say "look at how none of the Kings have even remotely similar hair to Ichiryu", but we also have no reference for the Kings' predecessors (other than Toriko, but we'll unpack that later).
Instead, let's take a look at one of the only actual genetic relationships shown on screen: Jirou and Teppei.
Tumblr media
We already know that Jirou and Teppei are biologically related, but more than that, we know that Jirou and Teppei went down completely different paths. Sure, Teppei clearly respects Jirou, but it's because Jirou took him Gourmet Hunting that Teppei decided not to become a Gourmet Hunter.
They went two completely different routes, Teppei not mimicking Jirou, and yet how do they style their hair?
The exact same way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is what I realised that sent me down the rabbit hole.
(Before anyone mentions it: Yes I know Acacia and Ichiryuu had similar hair but that was only temporary because Acacia had gotten a power-up. For the most part Acacia's hair was in that very, very long ponytail.)
We all know Toriko's family tree is a wreath. Let's take a look at Acacia's weird family, namely I want to look at Midora and Starjun, since that's what you're asking about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Obviously pretty similar: They both have long, choppy black hair that sorta hangs in tendrils.
But you may notice something kinda interesting: Midora's hair has a much messier cut and some of it hangs into his face. It's not like the other disciples, but it's definitely familiar...
Hm... where have we seen a character with messy black hair that hangs into their face?
Tumblr media
We know that Midora isn't Froese's biological son, but obviously there's some sort of parallel to be drawn here. And once you make that connection, it's easier to then realise how Starjun is part of this backwards family. Especially once you consider how Starjun's rank in Gourmet Corp is officially a 'Sous Chef'. And Froese was a chef.
And not just any chef! She could perform God Cooking. Let's take a look at what her God Cooking looks like...
Tumblr media
Hmm... where else have we seen that?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HMM...
Maybe I'm cherry-picking for what I want to see, but doesn't Starjun's hair look a lot more like Froese's? Froese's hair is everywhere but it's got a flow, the ends are wavy, but smooth. Clumps flow in similar directions, and are generally pretty thick. Notice how Midora's hair has much finer clumps going in other directions? Even Starjun's face is shaded like Froese's. Perhaps there's an argument to be made that Midora's similarities to Froese are something of a red herring, with the real foreshadowing coming from Starjun? Maybe that Midora's design is almost a mockery of Froese's -- similar, but almost more tentacle-like, more visually threatening? Or perhaps that Midora's similarities are an attempt to copy her, but not getting it quite right?
Admittedly, it's more likely that Shimabu decided that "Evil Villains with Bug-Like or Tentacle-Like Motifs = Long Black Tentacle-Like Hair" was an easy design, but I would say it's not a stretch to assume he made Starjun's hair similar to Midora's in order to solidify that Starjun is the Important one with some sort of connection to Midora (especially since Starjun is the only non-bug-themed Sous Chef).
You can't ignore Occam's Razor. And the simplest explanation is that Shimabu drew inspiration from Dragon Ball and decided that more power = more hair. But where's the fun in that?

Wait.
Is Aim capable of being affected by Dream's aura?
**********
Maybe yes, maybe no. ★
Dream was always known for his powerful positive aura that literally intoxicated everyone around him with happiness, even against his own will, and often made others suffer afterwards.
But this is part of him that's not inherent in neither his past dark personality nor his new neutral reality.
Did this aura remain with him, even not as strong as before? Is he able to control it now, or has he lost it forever?
Or perhaps, did he make a choice in favor of soul warmth, that inner light that exists in each of us and can literally be felt even in the real life? ♡

Yes, hello, I love your blog, you're my only window into what the fandom is doing and I could always completely skip the manga and just stick to reading here. So, about your poll of popular theories, I saw something about the demon world being underwater, would you mind elaborating, please? It's for research. For a fanfic 👀
[The poll in question]
I'm always going to advocate for reading the manga, not just because of what happened with S2, but also to see all the gorgeous detailing Demizu puts into her work that's lost in the transition to TV animation, along with her playing with perspectives/proportions in relationship to power dynamics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Chapter 1 | S1 Episode 1)
But thank you! <3
My understanding was the theory of the demon world being underwater was introduced by @couldnt-think-of-a-better-name, who was mainly active during the series' heyday (February 2019-July 2019, between the releases of chapters 123-142 during the King of Paradise and Seven Walls arcs and when S1 premiered in Japanese and English).
• Main post about the theory • Secondary post about Lambda-7214 being a coordinate • Neat edit of chapter 7's, chapter 16's, and chapter 2's cover art • Volume 13 Special Edition mini-artbook art hinting at the trajectory of the series
I think it's interesting in how the Seven Walls search party traverses what we're presented with as the entire demon world to find clues about Cuvitidala and the Seven Walls, yet the largest body of water we see anyone interact with is a pond. Nothing close to an ocean that would present them with difficulties such as building or buying a boat from demons.

Shirai also confirmed the elevator at Goldy Pond takes one to "a certain forest in Australia" (out of 458 forest communities).
Tumblr media
(Mystic Code Book Chapter 3 Q&A)
While the stairs under Grace Field headquarters seem to land one somewhere on the east coast of the former United States of America.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Chapter 178 | Chapter 179)
There's the imagery of the Statue of Liberty, leading me to believe the North American headquarters for the Ratri clan are located in (former?) New York City, but I don't know if I would necessarily say they wash up on the city's shores since Mike takes a jet out to meet them and the children aren't freezing in the November weather there. There's also the impracticality of after coming back from the demon world to transport goods or just traverse between the worlds you conspicuously land out in the open on the beach, so I believe it was the demon god's meddling that sent them to this beach, and the proper exit in one specific, singular location like the Goldy Pond one is somewhere else in the area. Two specific locations located in opposite hemispheres in our world, yet in the demon world you could potentially travel between the two passageways on foot in approximately a week based on the time it took the kids to reach the shelter at B06-32 (one day of initially wandering through the forest, five days traveling with Sonju and Mujika, and one day walking through the wasteland) and how long it took Yuugo, Emma, and Ray to reach Goldy Pond (four days) if it was a straight shot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Chapter 49 | Chapter 60)
It all leaves me very curious about how large the demon world is compared to the human world and how the demon god decided to split the two worlds up.
It's also interesting how despite all the water imagery in the series, we don't see any rain in the manga outside of the chapter 28 cover art (mentioned in the fourth post of that list):
Tumblr media
But the anime chose to have a very light rain overlay during the second episode while not animating the ground or characters getting wet:
It rains in the light novels.

And we see the children playing in the snow in the past.
