Thoughts on Sonic 3!

On December 10th, 2018, I was on the last day of a trip to Milwaukee. The night before, I'd attended the wedding of one of my best friends, Jake, who I've known since high school. Even though half of us were sick the whole trip, it was a great time. Derek had asked the wedding DJ to play "One Week" as the first request of the night, and proceeded to lip sync the entire song on the dance floor. On that cold winter morning in a hotel room hundreds of miles from home, Derek and I groggily checked Twitter on our phones and saw the shocking news: Paramount had teased the design for Sonic from their upcoming live action film. Even in silhouette, the shape of his face and the realistic curvature of his limbs made him look like a grotesque little homunculus. This movie was going to suck.

Six years later, I've now seen the third entry in what's become a hugely successful Sonic film franchise. It features Keanu Reeves as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog in a fairly faithful adaptation of his story from Sonic Adventure 2. At the time of writing, it currently sits at a whopping 86% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, vying for the title of the best-reviewed theatrically released video game movie of all time. Critics are saying nice things about the emotional journey of Shadow the Hedgehog. Never in a million years did I think I'd see this day.

I, too, have now seen this movie, and... yeah, it's pretty good.

I'm gonna get deep into spoilers here, so I'll just say up front that I liked the movie. It feels like just about the best possible execution of this version of Sonic. But that's also damning it with faint praise, depending on who you ask.

If you're a fan of the games who didn't like the second movie, you probably won't get much out of this one, either, unless you just really love Shadow so much that nothing else in the movie matters to you. It doesn't reinvent the wheel for this film series. It's still got a heaping helping of broad comedy, cheap pop culture references, bad one-liners, and characterization that diverges greatly from the source material. This is not high art, nor is it a direct adaptation of Sonic Adventure 2. If you're the kind of person who hates this portrayal of Sonic and Eggman, or a lore nerd who'll hate that they let Shadow do Chaos Control without an Emerald, then just don't bother with this.

On the other hand, if you did enjoy the last movie, then you'll probably have a fun time here, too. Shadow is very cool. The action is the best it's ever been. There's a bit more focus on characters from the games, and less on human characters invented for the movies—with the exception of Agent Stone, who's in this a lot because everyone likes him. There's a lot of SA2 fanservice. They even play "Live and Learn." It's a fun time! Be sure to stick around through the end credits.

And now, to dig deeper, let's get into the spoilers! I'm gonna jump around a lot and talk about different aspects of the movie, spoiling everything along the way.

Shadow and his reams of lore

Here's the main thing you came for: Shadow is great in this! They really did him justice. Keanu Reeves is extremely solid in the role. He can be a bit flat as an actor sometimes, but I think he did well here. He can be tough and menacing, but he can also be earnest and emotionally vulnerable. Good casting call. Excited at the prospect of seeing more of him in the future.

Really, as a Sonic Lore Nerd I'm most interested in discussing the changes they made to Shadow's backstory. I'm sure there will be many fans upset with the changes, but for the sake of streamlining a complicated backstory that was subject to a bunch of retcons and multiple layers of amnesia and fitting it into a 110-minute movie, I think they generally made smart choices.

For one, Gerald didn't create Shadow using Black Arms DNA, because Gerald didn't create Shadow at all! Instead, Shadow arrived on Earth inside a meteor, and Gerald was merely the prominent GUN scientist who studied him after he was captured. (That meteor does have very strong Black Arms vibes, though, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them exploring that stuff in the future.) This simplifies things a lot and allows Shadow to be a direct foil for Sonic, kind of a version of our hero who was treated as a lab rat and lost the only human he considered family instead of finding happiness like Sonic has. Then later Shadow hurts Tom and Sonic wants revenge, and it mirrors Shadow's feelings about Maria, and after they fight they can empathize with each other over this, Shadow sees the error of his ways and helps save the world, yada yada yada. You get it. People predicted 95% of this movie's plot from the trailers, but it's effective.

Likewise, all of the stuff about creating Shadow as the ultimate life form who's immune to all disease to cure Maria's illness is completely cut out. Shadow's still called the ultimate life form, but he's treated as more of an energy source than a genetic research project here, playing off of the stuff about Eggman wanting to harness Sonic's natural Chaos Energy in the movies. The original intent behind the ultimate life form project was always hard to explain in the games and doesn't even come up that much, so I don't blame them for cutting it.

Because Gerald isn't doing genetic experiments and creating artificial life, the Biolizard also doesn't exist. It does, however, appear in an old monster movie Shadow and Maria watch in a montage, with Shadow later commenting that he worries he's a monster like the one he saw in the movie. That's a clever way to include it, I think.

The ARK sort of exists. There was no space colony back in the '70s, all of the events of Shadow's flashbacks just took place at a secret GUN base on Earth. Fair enough for a version of the story ostensibly set in the real world. The big space laser in the third act of the film is obviously supposed to evoke the ARK, but it's referred to as simply the Eclipse Cannon. It's still not a full-blown space colony, just a weapon of mass destruction Gerald designed for GUN in exchange for his release (while also secretly planning to use it to blow up the planet in an act of revenge). I am, however, pleased to report that the Eclipse Cannon still has a giant Eggman face on it.

And as for Maria: I like her in this! She's obviously not going to get a ton of screentime, and she's always going to be a very straightforward character, but she's more playful and lively here. She teases Shadow for being grumpy and plays with him a lot. She feels less like this perfect embodiment of everything good and pure in the world and more like an actual kid. She's still not a complex character, but it works.

And the most important question: do they show a child getting shot and killed by the military? The answer is almost. In the flashback, GUN soldiers chase Maria, Shadow, and Gerald and ready their guns, but the young Commander Walters (who's in his 20s rather than being a kid) grabs them and tries to stop them from firing on a child. In the chaos, a soldier fires, missing Maria but hitting a generator that then blows up and kills Maria. So, y'know, close enough I suppose.

So, yes, many of the details change here, but they captured the gist of Shadow's story from SA2. The emotional core is there. I will say, though, I almost feel like Shadow isn't in this movie as much as I thought he'd be? I think he's used effectively in all of his scenes, and they make room for his backstory, and BOY does he get to kick ass in his fights, but for much of the middle part of the movie he's overshadowed by Ivo and Gerald. Though this might be a compromise to leave more screentime for...

Tails and Knuckles

I'm relieved to report that Tails and Knuckles both get a good amount of cool stuff to do in this! They don't feel like an afterthought.

I was worried that Tails in particular would completely fall by the wayside, since even his debut movie didn't entirely know what to do with him. But he's good here. He pretty much just feels like the Tails from the games at this point, especially since they dropped that fawning admiration he had for Sonic with that running gag of him going "Only Sonic the Hedgehog could do that!" He often chimes in as the one who wants Team Sonic to stick together when Sonic and Knuckles bicker. He particularly gets to shine in the Mission Impossible-inspired heist sequence at the GUN headquarters in London that serves as the climax of the second act, which feels like it was tailor made to let him shine as the tech guy of the team. He also gets several opportunities to swoop in and catch someone for a save in an action scene. He's good in this!

Knuckles is... fine. He's definitely fallen into the role of the comic relief dumb bruiser since joining the good guys, but he's at least a little better than he was in his own streaming show. The jokes lean more into him just being really brash about his strength and skill, rather than him being this archaic warrior who doesn't understand anything about the modern world. He also gets a few more serious bits in the back third of the movie where he gets to shine a little more, so overall it evens out to him being fine. They could've done way worse.

As for the relevance of the Knuckles show: Knuckles is now said to be the guardian of the Master Emerald, like in the games, though with no Angel Island this amounts to him hiding it somewhere for safekeeping. It's eventually revealed that he just gave it to Wade, who gets exactly one scene (sorry, Wade-heads) for a joke about him using the Master Emerald as a hockey puck. So, the miniseries explained why Knuckles has a connection with Wade. That's it! Also I think Knuckles might use the Flames of Disaster a bit in fights, but they never called the technique out by name, so I never really thought about it. So, yeah, the six-episode streaming miniseries about Wade bowling has zero meaningful relevance to the Shadow movie. Who could have seen this coming?

Miscellaneous humans

For that matter, the human supporting cast is MASSIVELY downplayed in this one. Tom and Maddie are there for two key sequences (the beginning of the movie and the GUN HQ heist), but otherwise they disappear for long stretches of the movie. They don't go to Japan in act I, nor do they go to space in act III, and there's no subplot for them during those periods, either. There's nothing like the wedding subplot in Sonic 2 where they'd constantly cut back to Hawaii for comic relief with the humans and only reveal why this was relevant to the plot near the end. (There's also no random dance battle in Siberia.) If a human character is here, it's because they have something to contribute to the plot right away. Most people will probably consider this an improvement, and I'd certainly say it makes for a much tighter script, though I have to remind everyone that I thought the wedding being a GUN sting operation was such a funny twist that I'm a defender of the Hawaii subplot.

On the subject of Tom, something funny I've noticed is that they've just completely downplayed the fact that Tom and Wade are cops. Tom being a cop never comes up once. Wade being a cop only gets referenced via the fact that he's practicing hockey on the roof of the police station in his one scene, but he's not in uniform or anything. They clearly got the memo that we don't want Sonic to hang out with cops.

Here's something else funny: Rachel and Randall got character posters, but they're actually not in the movie! Not technically, anyway. During the heist sequence at GUN HQ, Tom and Maddie use some gadgets Tails invented to holographically disguise themselves as those other characters. But the real Rachel and Randall never show up in the flesh. It's a very odd way to shoehorn the actors into the movie. (Jojo is also absent. They did not give her Amy's role of being the girl who reminds Shadow of Maria. Instead they just let Sonic have the big heart to heart with Shadow that makes him switch sides.)

You know who IS in this movie? Krysten Ritter. Not as the voice of Rouge, as the fandom once hoped, but as a director for GUN. She gets like three scenes and she feels completely checked out the whole time. Can't say I blame her! She's not really a character, just a plot necessity. Commander Walters dies in Japan but gives Sonic one of two keycards needed to activate the Eclipse Cannon, and then Ritter's character assumes Sonic stole it and labels him a bad guy. So that's why they have to break into GUN HQ in the second act instead of just talking things out with them. Still, I am at least relieved that Sonic doesn't work with GUN for most of the movie.

I gotta be honest: when Walters pulled a credit card-shaped object out of his pocket, I thought he was about to give Sonic another Olive Garden gift card as his final act before dying. Part of me wishes that happened.

The supporting human character in this who really gets to shine is Agent Stone, which I'm sure most fans will agree was the correct choice. There's a LOT of Agent Stone in this. He's good. I don't have much to say about him, but he's fun as usual.

But, of course, the ones who steal the show are Jim Carrey, and his costar Jim Carrey.

The Robotniks

I've gone back and forth on whether or not I can actually see movie Robotnik as Robotnik. I think with this third and final entry in the Jim Carrey Robotnik Trilogy, I've landed on... yeah, that's just Jim Carrey playing a Jim Carrey character. He's absolutely having fun with the role, and I enjoyed watching him, but I think a lot of that comes down to the fact that I'm a millennial who grew up watching Jim Carrey movies. If you didn't like him before, this movie will probably be nails on a chalkboard to you, because now there are two of him.

Ivo's arc here leans very heavily into the fact that he grew up as an orphan and never knew his family, a thing offhandedly mentioned in the first movie that's never been a thing for any other version of the character. Here, he learns that he has a living grandfather who's also a mad scientist, and it feels like a hole in his heart has been filled. It certainly makes sense for a place to take this version of the character, and it fits with the movie's themes of finding and losing family, but the cartoonish, childlike affection Ivo feels towards Gerald and all the scenes of them frolicking and dancing together have basically nothing to do with the characters from the games. He's a fun villain for this movie, but he's overwhelmingly used as comic relief this time rather than as a serious threat. He doesn't particularly feel like Sega's Dr. Ivo Robotnik, the arch nemesis of Sonic the Hedgehog who'd take over the world with an army of robots and a fleet of airships in the span of a day if Sonic wasn't around to stop him. He's a guy who lives in a big crab robot and has some drones. He has more in common with Carrey's depictions of the Grinch or the Riddler or Count Olaf than Dr. Eggman. Though he does, at least, finally get his outfit from the games by the end of the movie. So that's something. And also he's in a fat suit now. They only make jokes at the expense of his weight a little. Hooray...?

Gerald, meanwhile, is... largely the same character as movie Eggman, but older, so they can make jokes about him having saggy flesh and smelling funny and needing dentures. (Also, his voice kind of sounds like Homer Simpson sometimes?) To his credit, Carrey absolutely nails the handful of more serious scenes Gerald gets, whether it's Maria's death or his sinister turn when he reveals that he actually wants to destroy the Earth. But then it's right back to goofs about there being two of the same guy. Even the final battle features a lot of slapstick shenanigans with the two Robotniks fighting each other. I was able to enjoy the absurdity of it all, but if the humor doesn't land for you the dual Jim Carrey schtick is a hell of a lot of the movie. I wouldn't be surprised if there was more Gerald than Shadow in the movie, when you go and tally up their screentime. I was able to enjoy the sheer absurdity of it, but your mileage will vary.

I will, however, say that the split screen stuff they do with the two Carreys is EXTREMELY impressive, from a filmmaking perspective. They were absolutely flexing with their ability to pull the effect off. They don't rely on cheap tricks like cutting a lot, or having shot/reverse shot scenes where you're looking at the back of a body double's head. Instead they have a lot of long takes where the two Robotniks are talking to each other, you can see both of their faces, and they'll even hug and touch each other a lot, and the whole time the conversation maintains a natural pace like it really is two actors playing off of each other. It's really well done. It's an incredibly silly idea, but boy did they commit to it.

Sonic

I've hardly said anything about Sonic himself in all of this. It's his movie, isn't it! Well... I don't know, he's fine.

I feel like movie Sonic is a known quantity at this point, and either you like this take on the character or you don't. There was some speculation early on that this was supposed to be a younger Sonic who would grow into being the character we know from the games and comics, the one who's still got lots of quips but is also kind of aloof and cool, a free spirit who goes where the wind takes him, a figure the other characters look up to. And... no, that didn't happen. Once again he gets more serious as the stakes are raised, and he's totally badass when he goes Super, but the rest of the time he's still a little goober with tons of generic one-liners who learns schmaltzy lessons about the importance of family. He's still constantly going to undercut the tension of most scenes by cracking a pop culture reference that will make the average American parent go "haha I've heard of that." I don't think they're ever gonna change that. I think this just what the writers think Sonic is like.

And, again, for what it is, it's fine. He's a little annoying. You already know how you feel about movie Sonic. This third entry won't change that. But they do, at least, have him say "Talk about low budget flights, no food or movies... I'm outta here!" before jumping out of a helicopter. As my thoughts on the climax will show, I am not immune to fanservice.

The climax

God, the climax is SOOOOO fucking good. It's fantastic. Easily the best action these movies have ever done.

Rather than saving Super Shadow for the team-up with Sonic at the end, they have both of them go Super to fight each other first, and they just go full DBZ with it, fighting across the entire planet. It absolutely rules. I think this is the new coolest fight the two of them have had in anything ever. And then they have to stop the Eclipse Cannon together, and sure, there's no Biolizard. But Gerald DOES release a swarm of GUN Hunter robots, and the ensuing space battle turns into some Gundam shit. It's good! It's so good!!! The movie's flaws kind of melt away for me here when I'm watching Super Shadow take out an army of robots with Chaos Spears on the big screen. What a timeline we're living in.

And yes, they play "Live and Learn." They had to. They knew the assignment. They actually play a slight remix, but it's still got the original vocals, so it's perfectly recognizable. Actually, the tune of the song is used as a leitmotif for Shadow throughout the movie, first introduced via an acoustic guitar version played by Maria, and I really love that. I've been begging these movies to use more music from the games the whole time, and I'm glad they finally did so here. (They also use the traditional level clear jingle early in the film, and Eggman's theme from SA2 is very briefly used as a ringtone.)

... Anyway, uh, meanwhile Eggman, Tails, and Knuckles straight up just kill Gerald to save the world? They unceremoniously knock him into an energy field at the end of their slapstick fight aboard the Eclipse Cannon and he disintegrates like he hit a bugzapper. It's over in an instant. It's not graphic or anything, but it's, like... I didn't expect them to show it, or for it to be such a casual murder! Eggman has one quip about it and then immediately moves on.

Shortly after this, Eggman and Shadow sacrifice themselves to stop the Eclipse Cannon. Shadow's sacrifice doesn't stick, obviously (he's revealed to be alive by the end of the second stinger—pretend to be shocked), but Eggman's probably dead dead. I seriously doubt Jim Carrey's gonna come out of retirement for these movies again. His final moments before the big explosion are also SO dragged out and belabored. He has a dramatic final line like ten times in a row. It really just feels like the series saying goodbye to Carrey. And, again, it feels like a fitting enough end for this Eggman's arc, but it's an odd adaptation of the character from the games.

And so, that's what we're left with. This is far from Sonic Adventure 2: The Movie. It's not that, though there are many, many references made to that game in particular. It's a sequel to the film Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that has a similar tone and style, but Shadow and Gerald are in it, and Shadow gets some really cool fights, and there's a liiiiiittle more focus on stuff from the games than last time, and the script's a little tighter. If that sounds fun to you, you will have fun with this. I know I did. If it doesn't, you're probably better off waiting for them to inevitably do an animated reboot whenever this live action series runs out of steam.

It hasn't quite run out of steam yet, though...

The post-credits scenes, and the future

One of the big questions going into this was: what's next? How do they top a Shadow movie with heavy Sonic Adventure 2 overtones, in terms of hype for the fans? How do you fill Eggman's shoes after Carrey retires, for real this time? There are still more fan favorite rival characters to get through, but how many movies in a row can they introduce a furry foe for Sonic who inevitably turns good and helps him stop a larger threat by the end? And when the hell are we gonna see the girls?

Well, we now have our answer, and it's one I'm cautiously excited for: a whole army of Metal Sonics, and Amy!

Yes, Amy! Finally!! It's an absolute crime that we've gone three whole movies and a streaming miniseries without including the female lead of the series. I've complained about this ad nauseum (and also the fact that they cut Rouge from the story). But at least now they're finally doing something about it.

But now the question is, how will they characterize Amy? Sega's struggled with her for years, and there's a million different directions you can take her. Her one scene here has her smashing a bunch of Metal Sonics and wearing a cloak for the sake of a dramatic reveal, which gives her the vibes of a mysterious, badass action girl. This is, of course, completely different from how Sonic and Amy met in the games. What will her personality be like? She doesn't speak here, so who will they get to play her? Where did she come from? Will she even have a crush on Sonic? All of these have yet to be determined. So, like, I'm hyped to finally see Amy, a character who should've been in the movies from the start, but they could so easily end up playing it safe with an incredibly boring girlboss version of Amy who's no fun at all. We'll have to wait and see.

(My prediction: they're going to try to cast either Zendaya or Ariana as Amy.)

Metal Sonic, likewise, is very exciting, and he looks perfect. He looks just like the design from the games. But the question is: what will they do with this army of Metals? Will they be lead by one main Metal Sonic, perhaps Neo Metal Sonic, who gets to be a proper bad guy? Will they take some cues from Sonic CD, Heroes, and the OVA, or do something completely original? Where did they come from? Were they activated as a failsafe after Eggman died? Did they and Amy come from some sort of bad future, riffing on Sonic CD's time travel? Will they explore the fact that Metal wants to be the one and only Sonic? Or will they just be an army of disposable robot grunts for Sonic and friends to mow down like it's a Dynasty Warriors game, while some other villain takes center stage?

It could go so many different ways, and some prospects are more exciting than others. I mean, the Knuckles show had endless possibilities for what it could do with him, and none of the options on my bingo card were "Pachacamac's ghost tells him to help Wade win a bowling tournament." And while I'm a sicko who thinks it's funny that the Knuckles show is what it is, forgive me for keeping my hype about Amy and Metal Sonic in check here until we learn more.

Regardless of what they do, it'll still be hard to top the hype of Shadow, and it'll be hard to fill Jim Carrey's shoes for general audiences. So despite this clear statement of intent, I have no idea what the future of this film franchise holds. But regardless of what they do, I can say one thing for certain: the kids in my theater were hyped as hell for it. They popped off over Metal Sonic, and they were screaming their heads off with excitement over Amy. I heard a teenage girl on the opposite end of my row of seats say "finally!" over Amy's reveal, verbalizing my exact thoughts. She also said that this movie was "peak," though it diverged from the games, and she hoped they'd do a movie with Silver and Blaze someday.

The kids are gonna be okay.

It's a compilation and also there's some Stone for practice bc I have no idea how to draw him pipipi Eggman is easier bc it's just his Sonic Boom design (I love it)

Some stuff about this universe under the cut!

(Btw if there's incongruencies is bc I can't make up my mind about the facts whwhw)

-Robotnik and Stone are married, very much married. Cartoon villains in love, I love that for them.

-["MARTHA I'M COMING HOME SWEETIE-"] Mixing up the movie things and the whatever's going on in the Sonic Boom, so Robotnik was gone for eight months and when he's back she's already born.

>Also the drawing is a reference to Icarly's "Whatcha got there?" "A smoothie" but she was clearly asking about the ostrich Spencer brought with him.

>Alternatively, Eggman's there and they go through the journey together yippiee. Choosing names, making evil parenting plans and whatever, being their idiot selves.

(After celebrating because they're good news actually) "I want a boy or a girl-" (Eggman) "Yeah me too." (Stone) "-and we should name them a single, worth of remembering name! Like... Eggette for a girl and Eggson for a boy." "I'm not letting you name them any of that, doctor..." "Okay, then how about Beyonce for a girl and-"

-In the one where he comes back and the baby's already there, Eggman does a terrible job as a father the few first months, but then he gets the hang of it and it's not so bad.

>He gets projectile vomited on and he's immediately asking to get an abortion (the baby's already born) (he didn't give birth to her), Stone says no anyways.

>"Surprisingly, I'm a good father" he thinks one day and it's because he's still very much an orphan here with no frame of comparation or example aside from researching the matter.

-In the one where they wait for her together, he does all the research necessary in all those months, absolutely refusing in doing an average job in that matter, he's the great Ivo Robotnik c'mon. He excels at anything and he'll be a great father (jk he's terrified of fucking up).

-The Stobotnik family is an evil but loving family, like the bears in Puss in Boots whwh criminal family✨

-For the funny of it, Sonic and Eggman got a sort of relationship like in Sonic Boom, so sometime maybe our favorite boy, Tails and Knuckles had to look after their child.

-Also since Knuckles broke Stone's and Robotnik's hands with their handshake, let's have him handle the baby with the most careful grip ever, just to demonstrate that he didn't have to grab their hands that hard aksdjask

-She's a big fan of Sonic and friends (Sonic the Hedgehog, not Sonic Wachowski, the second guy hadn't done even half the things she admires him for, but no one has the heart to tell her when she's a kid). Has a bunch of merch and all the comics of Sonic the Hedgehog.

>When she's a teenager she proudly uses her Sonic backpack in the same way Deadpool uses his Hello Kitty backpack.

-BTW Sonic, Knuckles and Tails are all brothers and Maddie and Tom's kids bc that's the best idea ever made.

-ALSO I'm definitely gonna draw that scene where Knuckles was about to put the baby in the blender and Sonic shouts THE CHILI DOG NOT THE BABY. Some day, you'll see pipipi.

-SAGE was created for various reasons, to be her sister (since she wouldn't stop asking for one but neither Stone nor Robotnik were willing in raising another human kid, thanks very much), to protect her, and also to answer the tedious "why?" questions that neither father had the patience for (A+ parenting right there). Maybe she was used for the original purpose too idk (I don't know that sonic game where she debuts).

>The child's delighted about having a sister, then she grows up and SAGE doesn't, so she has a little sister.

>METAL SONIC TOO MAYBE? Perfect lil american family, the two happily married parents and their three kids (one human girl, an IA and a robot clone of their alien enemy).

-On her early months she was called Pebble, because she really was a mini Stone, Robotnik went along with it (bc he also looked at her and only saw his husband whw) until she was a little older and they started calling her by her name.

-She's a spoiled kid and also a little menace, unintentionally evil, she can't help it.

-Robotnik calls himself 'daddy' way too much in the live-action movies to ignore it, so he's daddy and Stone's dad (dada when she was younger).

-She has Robotnik's eyes but as big as Stone's. They're the lethal-est sad puppy eyes ever (they work wonders on both parents and other people) (both men got beautiful dark brown eyes with visible eyelashes fight me).

-She's the five-year-old that made Sonic fear them because 'they can be so cruel when they sense weakness' (she was brutally honest as any young kid is).

-Stone and Robotnik got Gomez and Morticia Addams kinda parenting. They see their child beating up someone and they're like:

"What did we do wrong?" (Stone while shaking his head in disappointment) "I know... she lacks resourcefulness." (Eggman) "Exactly, there's her baseball bat right there, why doesn't she use it?"

-Remember that Shadow said in a game that he wouldn't mind taking a candy from a baby? (fandub I think but still) This comes in handy when neither Tails, Sonic or Knuckles want to upset the kid (so Shadow does it instead).

-She plays sports too because she got too much energy. In each of them she loses her patience. She grabs the football and hauls it at the nearest team member, she throws her baseball bat to the ground and starts beating up whoever threw the ball that she missed, she stomps in frustration if she loses, she's great at dodgeball (sends her classmates to the infirmary).

-Throws tantrums and stuff and overall's an annoying kid if she's upset. Eggman's like UGH WHY'S SHE LIKE THIS?? and Stone's like Because of you, doctor (terrible temperament runs in the family and also Robotnik just spoiled her too much).

-I'm kinda dressing her up in the clothes that existed in my mind that supposedly Eggman wore (the weird dress-like jacket with the big zipper in the middle). Under her jacket there's a dress in the same pattern as the original Eggman's clothes, also she wears a baby onesie like that too.

-When she's older she's definitely proud of her fathers, but she doesn't appreciate the rumors that she's prone to go power-crazy like Robotnik did. Especially because it may be true, but what do they know.

-For the irony, she can't stand drinking coffee, but loves the smell of it because it reminds her of home (omg).

-THEY HAVE A PET CAT like I read in some fics and her name is Robot and she's a lil shit and also grumpy like Robotnik.

>Maybe she brings her alive mice to experiment on all sort of stuff (like Pávlov and his dogs and the guy Skinner with his mice and cats (??))

-She gets to hang out with Sonic and friends under the condition of annoying him as much as possible. So, she complies. (She loves Sonic the Hedgehog, but she loves making her fathers happy more).

-Very smart kid but not to the level of Tails or Robotnik at that age, she's just got very good memory and learning skills and knows a lot of stuff ever since she was a little kid. More like a Matilda-kinda intelligence.

-She's a scientist when she grows up too but the kind that makes evil potions and serums and stuff aksjdk probably (chemistry things? biochem idk). She can make silly little robots for the fun of it but it's not her passion, unlike Robotnik and Stone's. PROBABLY. I'm still deciding.

-BTW LOOK (it says 'carefully crafted ploy to distract space porcupines')

Sonic Boom! Agent Stone AU (pt.1)

(This is kind of an outline thing for the fic I plan on writing in the future btw!!)

Chapter 1 posted!

•On one random Tuesday, a coffee shop named "The Mean Bean" appeared in the middle of town, with no construction and no posters for the place, as if it fell from the sky.

•It probably did since it's sonic boom and all.

•Sonic and friends had different opinions on the place, but all of them went in anyway.

•Sonic thought he wasn't really a coffee guy but it wouldn't hurt to try something new.

•Amy admired how beautiful and modern the place looked, unlike the rest of the establishments in their formerly unnamed village.

•Tails questioned how they had managed to construct a cafe that quickly without anyone noticing.

•Knuckles wondered why this bean shop smelled like coffee.

•Sticks, however...had her theories.

•Upon laying her eyes on the establishment, she started coming up with 50 theories per second; her friends dismissed her to get the plot going.

•Sticks's suspicions didn't subside one bit once entered the shop and made eye contact with a grinning barista with the name tag "Stone"

•What really got Sticks paranoid is how nice and friendly the barista was, and how he was the only person working there.

•Stone served them and said their orders were "on the house"

•Sticks refused to order anything, claiming it was a trap and the food had microchips in it to read the villager's thoughts and know the village's most crucial secrets.

•Right in the middle of Stick's yap session, Eggman initiated a very well-timed attack.

•Cut to Shoujo vision-eyed Stone laying his eyes for the very first time on the village's one and only villain (or the only one that matters)

•He quickly snapped out of it, adjusted his clothes, and cleared his throat, then walked out of his coffee shop to greet the villain.

•He had politely asked Eggman to take the fight somewhere further away from his coffee shop and Eggman surprisingly obliged (not without blowing up in Stone's face ofc) (Stone didn't look like he minded) (He actually looked even more love-struck) (weirdo)

•The fight ended, and the gang went back to the coffee shop, where Stone inquired about the evil doctor who almost blew up his shop.

•That was Stick's last straw; she started screaming about how Stone was a government agent who would doom the entire village if they didn't stop him.

•She ran out screaming when her friends still didn't believe her.

•Girl, get better friends.

•She figured that if she was going to foil the evil government agent's plans she needed someone else helping her, another pair of eyes to look out for the village if the government agent decided that she was an obstacle in his way and kidnaps her to a work in a secret underground trees-that-are- actually-spy-cameras-factory.

•And that's when she found Shadow in a cave that he definitely doesn't live in.

•He reluctantly agreed to help her because he was also suspicious about that guy, not that he cared about the village but he didn't like being oblivious about evil happening on his turf.

•He didn't believe stick's microchipped food theory, but Stone being a government agent didn't seem too far off for him...

•They both had their separate attempts at getting answers out of Stone.

•First was Sticks, she set up a trap.

•ofc Stone fell for it because how else would the story progress.

•She interrogated him as he was upside down hanging from a tree outside her home.

•He denied all claims and feigned innocence, claiming he was just a barista that came from far far away to simply serve people happiness in the form of coffee.

•She opted for more efficient interrogation techniques, she turned around and entered her home to..grab a feather and tickle him idfk

•Once she returned outside she saw the net was burnt to crisp and the human was nowhere to be found.

•Now she's sure she's not paranoid.

•She reported her findings to Shadow.

•Now it was Shadow's turn, seeing how Stone definitely had some special equipment/weapons on him the idea of there being microchips in the food didn't seem too uncanny.

•Shadow showed up to The Mean Bean, Sticks intently staring at him from behind the glass doors (creeping everyone in the shop out)

•Shadow thought he shouldn't interrogate him as that would end up as fruitful as Stick's efforts.

•Instead he chose to just behave as a normal customer, he was the ultimate life form after all, if there was something odd about the food then he'd know (I'm pulling this shit outta my ass okay)

•Just like the badger had described him "Very sweet with an evil aura", and something about trees.

•Stone felt somewhat nervous/awkward towards the hedgehog, so far all his customers were either stupid or friendly excluding the badger that kidnapped him because she wasn't a customer at all)

•The Hedgehog chose a cat muffin, glaring at stone the entire time.

•That was the best goddamn muffin he has ever had in his life.

•He slammed the money on the counter and returned back to a very distraught badger.

•"ARE YOU OKAY?! ARE THE RADIATIONS GETTING TO YOUR BRAIN?! ARE YOU BRAINWASHED?! DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR TRAGIC BACKSTORY?! DID THE MUFFIN DO SOMETHING TO YOU?!"

"Raspberry jam..."

It's the 27th not the 28th but close enough :)))

While Nolan needed about a week to get better, Mark was fine, he was just whiny to be babied. Not like you argued. You both babied each other while the man was healing, needing it. Now, while Mark visited him every day, you only did it twice, unable to look at him for long without your blood pressure increasing and unable to stand how softly he held your baby brother, cuddling him into his side, how gently he spoke to Andressa. It was a side he never gave much to you or Mark and Debbie.

Those sentiments were of no use to you. So, you buried them and the little flashes of memories that reminded you of Bruce always being soft with the others but only giving you this cold, distant look, if even that, and began distracting yourself by using your architecture classes and starting to rebuild with the other Thraxans.

It kept the thoughts of how easy it was for men to up and have whole other families, families they took greater care of away, it kept the insecurities of you truly not being enough for anyone away- you knew those weren’t true- you did! Mark and Debbie truly loved you. Eve and Amber were great friends who didn’t shy away from showing physical affection. They loved you and you loved them all so much… But the doubt somehow was stronger.

What if they were faking? You always heard Dick and Tim complain that the kids at their school were snakes who were after Bruce’s money. But they didn’t know you still had access to his money. It couldn’t be your powers. What could they give if it couldn’t even sway Nolan enough to not attack Mark? Were you just someone not worth loving?

Thoughts over thoughts filtered through your brain. Sentiments and thoughts and memories- all bottled up, put away, hidden in favor of working. It helped keep you preoccupied, helped keep your mind off Bru- Nolan, it did. Until you couldn’t help but subconsciously add him and Andressa to one of the many murals the Thraxans insisted on.

“I think it’s crooked.” Mark said from behind you, your head snapped from him back to the mosaic mural, arms crossing over your chest as you tilted your head to the right. “Huh. It is a little crooked.” You grab a spatula and shrug. “Well, time to redo it all-” At your words, Mark immediately panicked, words spewing out of his mouth to tell you that it’s fine, a little human error, only stopping when you started laughing.

“Chill.” You hum as you use the spatula to straighten the few pieces that were askew. “I was joking. They have this slow-drying solution that only hardens immediately when water is sprayed. Nifty thing.” You turn to look at Mark, dead in his eyes. “I think it’s their vomit, to be honest.”

“Eww-“ Mark cringed, whining at the thought. “Thanks for the image.” He mutters, half-heartily glaring at you as you snicker. “Shut up.” He gently slapped your arm. “Shut up? You shut up, free baller.” You slap his arm back. “Hey- I have boxer under-“ He pouted as you mocked him, repeating his words in a goofy voice and exaggerating his movements. “Alright, you’re asking for it.”

“Alright, you’re- Hey!” Your teasing was stopped as you dodged some of the goop you had used for your mosaic pieces. Before you could say anything more, he blew a raspberry at you and flew away, yelling that you couldn’t catch him. You just huffed, smirking as you opened a portal.

Appearing in front of the laughing Mark made him let a scream as he almost crashed into you. You just moved slightly out of the way before tapping his foot. “Tag, you’re it!” Mark groaned as you flew away, the sonic boom messing his hair. “That’s not fair! You used magic!” he yells before going after you, laughing at the schemes you pulled to avoid his touch.

Nolan and Andressa just watch the two have their fun, the chubby baby on her hip cooing with gleeful wonder at the laughing young adults flying through the air. “You need to talk to her.” Andressa told him, eyes meeting his. “It doesn’t matter what you want, Nolan.” She interrupted him. “She’s hurt, Mark too. But she always gets this sad, scared look when she sees you interact with us compared to him.”

“I don’t know what you did or didn’t do. I don’t know what she went through. You’re quite secretive.” She only smiled at the guilty look he gave her. “As a whole species, we forget, forgive, and move on because of our short lives- we blink as babies and open our eyes as elders. You have eternity in comparison. Do you want her to stew with whatever she’s feeling for that long?”

“No.” Nolan sighs. “It’s just- I haven’t made the right choices-“ Andressa puts a gentle hand on his arm. “Then tell her. Not me. I wasn’t the one you wronged.” And yet, the man couldn’t help but feel like he did. Her, Debbie, his kids- the ones that actually made him feel alive, like he wasn’t just another soldier who could be replaced. He just nods. She was right, after all.

“And this is why I strongly believe you should let me go on this school trip without supervision.” Damian finished his presentation by pressing a button on the remote to present the final slide of his PowerPoint presentation. Jon was standing near him, holding the last physical card that simply stated that Lois would also be there while smiling brightly. “Chum-“ Bruce sighs, rubbing at his tired eyes. “I don’t think-“

“Father. For years, you have made me try to fit in with the other kids, with a range of people that I initially deemed beneath me. I’m sixteen now, almost seventeen. It’s normal for others my age to crave independence. Granted, I won’t be entirely alone, not only will there be the teachers, but the Kents have also taken on the job of supervisors. Do you not trust them, or do you not trust me?”

Damian knew it was a low blow, but he was strategic in everything right down to when he asked Bruce. The man had a headache, was too tired, and pulled in all directions, from the Viltrumite problem to the Sorceress killing Joker to the rogues still not letting up. Batman was too tired to notice anything askew, couldn’t even think of the possibility.

Bruce sighed deeply, shoulders slouching as he gave a defeated nod. He did trust him. He also trusted the Kents, and he had always insisted for Damian to take in any moments of normality he could. “Alright, give me a pen.” Damian smiled at the triumph, doing as he was told. He also handed over the papers, deliberately ignoring how Jon’s smile wobbled and how his worried eyes seemed to scream at him.

Nolan had been practicing for a few hours on what to say, only when Mark caught him red-handed in the middle of his speech. He wanted to talk to both of them, but talking first to Mark was better. His boy had mellowed out- somewhat. He was still angry, still hurt, but he knew you’d be the one who was having the real war. And while Mark left him to deal with his daughter on his own, he pitied him enough to give him some advice.

“She’s hurt, she’ll ask questions, she’ll say hurtful things because she is hurt by the thing I said. Be quick, be honest, and don’t dance around, she’ll take that as dishonesty, as a lie.” Nolan muttered to himself as he flew about, trying to find you. “Be careful of what you say or be ready to get punched-“ His breath caught in his throat as he finally noticed your figure high in the sky. He forgot everything he had rehearsed.

Your eyes scan around. You weren’t sure if you were trying to memorize the landscape or if you were just paranoid and looking out in case the Viltrumites were trying to test your patience. You were looking for a fight, to be honest- anything to not pay attention to the emotions boiling under your skin.

The voice of Nolan softly whispering your name made your body tense, spine straightening. This wasn’t the kind of fight you wanted. You slowly turned around to face the man, remaining quiet as the man stuttered through whatever he was trying to say. Your eye twitched. “Jesus- just spit it out.”

Nolan takes in a breath as he senses your temper rising. “We need to talk.” At his simple statement, you just huff. “What’s there to talk about? You found yourself new pets to keep you entertained. Good job.” The older man just sighs, slowly floating closer under your suspicious eye. “What I said while fighting Mark-“ you quickly corrected him and he didn’t miss a beat in repeating your words. “-while beating up your brother- was out of fear, out of doubt and fear.“

“You called mom a pet!” you yelled at him, unable to hold it in anymore. “You did that- nobody made you! What were you afraid of anyway?! The Viltrumites? You weren’t alone, Nolan. The Guardians were your friends, all you had to do was come clean- they would have helped, hell, The Justice Leagues would have helped-“

As you grew angrier, Nolan tried to remain calm. “The League ignored every tip I sent in.” The scoff that you gave was quick. “Yeah? And I’m supposed to believe you?” Your hands were shaking, you wanted to believe him- you did- but you just couldn’t. “It’s the truth.” He kept his voice soft and even, trying his hardest not to trigger a fight. “I kept trying to contact them for weeks, I sent in anonymous tips, tried to talk to them in person, I tried everything- killing the guardians was a desperate act-“ He raised a hand when you tried to interrupt. “Let me finish. Killing them and turning you and Mark to the Viltrumites' side was the only thing I could think of that would have kept you two and Debbie safe-“

“You still could have told Cecil- You still had us!” Your yelling makes Nolan flinch- a small movement you didn’t quite notice. “You didn’t think Mark and I loved you enough to give you the chance to do better? You are our dad, we would have fought for you! What? Did you think we are like you? Fucking cowards who run away when they doesn’t get what they want?”

“Well, news flash, Nolan- not everyone does what you do- some of us like to fight for the people we love- oh, but you didn’t love us- you thought of us as pets!” Your words, hissed and loud, cut deeper than anything ever could. “I did love you, I still love you-“ Your fist meeting his jaw cut his sentence short. “Shut up, you lying bastard!” You hissed before lunging at him again.

Mark and Andressa watched with different levels of worry. “This is fine.” He mumbled, nibbling on his nails. “She is beating him up.” Andressa looked at the young man. “She’s pulling her punches. The first time around, she almost crushed his skull.” Andressa’s eyes just widened as she turned back to watch her lover get his ass handed to him. “And she’s not using her elemental powers, so that’s good-“ Andressa's jaw dropped at the information.

“As long as nothing starts glowing neon green, they’re fine.” Mark shrugs, barely believing himself. “I’ll… go check on your brother.” Andressa sighs, slowly turning away as Marks starts floating off the ground. “Mhm, I’ll go closer- just in case.”

“-and to think you want me to believe anything that comes out of your mouth!” You growl, punching and kicking, only getting madder when Nolan just takes it. “I know, I’m sorry. I love you.” Nolan kept repeating himself after every insult, every jab, every truth you threw at him. “Stop saying that!” Your voice cracked as tears finally fell down your face, and you lunged at him once more, this time crashing him into a deserted place quite a distance from the city.

“You don’t love us! You left us all alone!” Your already weak punches grew weaker, barely making him grunt in pain, tears blurring your vision. “You don’t love me- you left me just like-“ You couldn’t finish, not your sentence or the punch you threw. Your body was shaking with sobs as you simply crumbled, covering your face with your hands to hide your crying face.

“You changed for them- why didn’t you for us?” You whimper through your sobs. “Were we not enough? Was I not good enough? I could have been- I could have changed-“ Nolan quickly wrapped his arms around you, muffling your sobs and words by burying your face in his chest.

His hold was tight, suffocating, but even as you weakly struggled to get out, he wouldn’t let go. “You are perfect. You, your brother, your mother- you are all amazing and did nothing wrong. I was the one in the wrong.” He whispers as one hand keeps you close while the other tries to soothe you. It only made you cry harder.

“I wasn’t afraid of the Viltrumites. I was afraid of you three rejecting me once you found out the truth.” Nolan’s eyes met Mark’s once he quietly landed just a few steps away. “I should have trusted that all of you love me just as much as I love you.” You grunted when Mark almost fell on top of you, one of Nolan’s arms wrapping around his eldest as he squeezed him to his chest just as tight. Nolan could wash the snot off later, this was more important. “My kids… My babies.” He hummed as he kissed both of your heads.

“I’m sorry for beating you up… again.” You mumble as you snuggle closer to the sleepy baby who woke up because he was hungry. Nolan only laughed, ruffling your hair as he pressed a cold pack to his jaw. “I deserved it. Besides, it’s nice knowing some of my training stuck.” You give a half-hearted hum of acknowledgment while letting your head fall against his shoulder when he takes a seat next to you on the grand couch. After all that crying, you were just numb and tired… Your anger will still be present, you were sure, but now you just wanted a nap.

Mark pouted as you moved closer to Nolan, choosing to lay his head on your shoulder instead of letting go. “How come you get the cool armor, and I get the toga?” Mark whined, poking at his baby brother’s chubby cheek, making the little guy babble. “I’m more badass, you fool.” You stick your tongue at him, Mark gasping dramatically and placing his hand over his heart. “How dare… You wound me.”

Your eyes move to Andressa as she’s ready to feed her baby, your eyes squinting at her, making her slightly nervous. “Your antennas make a heart shape when you’re around dad- that’s cute. I’m sorry if that’s rude to point out.” The poor lady immediately relaxed at your words, relief washing over her knowing you weren’t angry with her as well. “Oh! That’s okay- Thank you. I didn’t notice.” Her antennas move around before settling back into the slight heart shape.

Mark gasped softly as he saw how the baby was fed, your eyebrows raising as you watched her feed him like a bird feeds its baby. Well… Like ants feed each other. You hoped that would not continue as he ages.

Your eyes drifted back to Nolan. It still hurt… But maybe you could forgive him… Maybe. “Is it really true? The Justice League ignored you when you tried to warn them?” Mark frowned at the questions with confusion all over his face, looking at Nolan as the older man got more comfortable on the couch. It’ll be a long night.

Batman shivered as he knocked out another goon, his whole body shaking for a second while Robin frowned at the man. “What was that?” Bruce stays still for a few more seconds before looking at his youngest. “I don’t know… It just felt like something bad is happening.” Robin just gave him a look, waiting for him to elaborate. The boy scoffs as the man just moves on. Batman grimaced. It felt like he was being warned that he was losing something. Or someone. His eyes moved around as the jumble of whispers tried to get his attention. He moved on, grappling to a nearby rooftop.

Today was a normal day so you didn't have to go to school. Since your family had no plans of going out of town -as your guardians had to work-, you had decided to go hang out with your three new best friends-- Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

Their house was a block from yours so you got to take a few moments to admire the beauty in nature on your trek. How the leaves on the trees are a vivid green. How the grass is the perfect shade of color. Dandelions here and there.

You got to the Wachowski door and knocked. After a brief wait, Tails came to the door. "Oh, hey!" He greeted. "Hi, Tails!" You put your fist out for a power bump. He does the same, and you open your hand after the gesture, as if mimicking an explosion.

You peer into the living room. "Oh my. What happened?" The living room from what you saw was transformed into a makeshift fighting arena. "Knuckles wanted to fight someone to become the 'family champion'."

"Should've expected that," You replied with a small laugh, looking a bit closely. "Hole still hasn't been fixed yet?"

"No. It's kind of hard when Knuckles sees the construction crew as enemies."

"Oh. Where's he at now?" You asked.

"Upstairs. Maddie grounded him."

"I honestly don't blame her."

You walked up the attic stairs to see Sonic strapping a VR headset onto Knuckles' head, leaving him exclaiming: "Ah! Where have you sent me?!"

Knuckles removed the headset. "And viral dance videos!" Sonic rushed to find his ring light, set his phone in the holder, and did a dance to "Keep Movin' On".

Eventually, Sonic's dancing stopped, and he set away his ring light.

"See what I mean? Use this time to relax. You'll be out there warrior-ing before you know it," Sonic replied, jumping off the tire swing he sat on momentarily. "Okay, good talk." Sonic walked past you, saying hello, before him and Tails were on their way to the backyard to play catch.

"Hey, Knuckles," You spoke up.

"Hello, human," He looked up from his sitting position on the floor, setting his VR headset and hand remotes down. "Did the fox tell you about my grounding?"

"He did. Why did you think it would be a good idea to build a throne in the dining room?" You asked, sitting next to him, looking out the circular window, watching the clouds roll by.

"Sonic told me to make myself at home. As the family champion, I deserve to sit on a throne during mealtime. Echidna tradition."

You couldn't help but snort lightly. "Knux, things are different with humans than echidnas. Humans don't have thrones at the table."

"But, what about that family that shows up on Maddie's television occasionally?"

"Knux, that's the royal family. It's their tradition as kings, queens, princes, and princesses. But it's not normal in everyday homes like ours."

You ruffled his quills lightly.

"I do think I understand."

"Do you understand the part about the fighting pit, too?"

"Yes."

"Good. Now, what I suggest you do, buddy, is apologize to Maddie when she comes home. You'll be back to being a warrior in no time."

"Do you think so?" He asked you, looking up at you with his beady purple eyes.

"I know so," You nudged his shoulder with a laugh.

"Thank you, human."

"For what?" You asked him.

"Explaining to me what human culture is like. It is very different from the echidna culture." Knuckles gave you a sliver of a smile.

You wrapped an arm around his shoulder. He tensed a little, but then leaned into your touch. "You're welcome, bud."

A Guide to My AU ("Evay AU")

Hello! I make art for anything and everything I love, but if you follow me you'll find that a large amount of my content is centered around my own Sonic AU. I thought I'd make a handy little guide for those of you who are new and just learning about my AU or for those of you who have been following me but might want a refresher.

★This guide is a living document that will be continuously amended as I make changes and additions to my stories. ★

OVERALL PREMISE

My AU centers around Sonic & Friends through adulthood as they navigate relationships, careers, marriage and family. The primary genres are "slice of life" and "romantic comedy" with some action/drama interspersed throughout. My AU mostly follows the video game canon and the IDW canon with some elements from Sonic Boom and Sonic X tossed in and then I created my own characters and stories to fill in the gaps. My AU DOES NOT include the Sonic Cinematic Universe, Archie comics/characters, Fleetway comics/characters, Sonic Prime, SatAM, the OVA, Sonic Underground, the 1992 Manga, etc.

SPECIAL NOTES

In my AU, I depict "Classic" versions of the Sonic cast as their younger selves with their "Modern/Boom" versions being older.

Although my canon does not include Archie/SatAM, I do refer to Sonic characters' classification as "Mobians" and the planet they are on is referred to as Earth/Mobius interchangeably. I credit this as simply "cultural variation" between humans and Sonic characters but they all originate from the same planet.

MOST IMPORTANTLY please remember this is a fanmade AU. Nothing I say, write or draw influences the Sonic franchise or canon in any way. I'm just here to have fun and I hope you enjoy the ride!

KEY

For the timeline below, Canon Sonic characters will be highlighted in blue and my original characters will be highlighted in pink.

If there is a comic or written fic that corresponds with an element of the timeline, I will include it as a hyperlink.

ABRIDGED TIMELINE

Project Shadow is created and suspended.

Domino and Phlox meet. Sonic is conceived.

Domino raises Sonic to approx. toddler age until she loses her life in a flash flood. Sonic is left alone to fend for himself and eventually represses his memories of Domino to cope with the trauma.

Clay Rose and Lulu Petula meet. Together, they have Amy and she lives with her parents until her fortune cards lead her to meeting Sonic.

Majority of the game/IDW canon takes place.

CC (originally labeled as "Code Compiler") is a spherical/ovoid robot created by an independent inventor (no relation to the Robotniks) to assist with production. CC's intelligence rapidly evolves and she gains sentience much to her creator's dismay. After a struggle, the inventor powers her off and the workshop falls into disrepair. The building is marked condemned and CC's chassis remains hidden within the rubble.

Sonic and Phlox run into each other on several occasions. Neither realize they are related.

Amy begins her pursuit of archaeological studies.

A mystery woman going by the name "Light" (who is secretly Aurora from the future) appears and warns Sonic & Team of an oncoming threat that is hellbent on killing Shadow before wreaking havoc on the planet. Light claims she was sent here with the task of protecting Shadow but is not forthcoming with any other information about herself or her 'previous team'. Light & the Team work together to fight off 'the threat' and along the way Shadow develops a romantic interest in Light who also has strong feelings and an allegiance to him for reasons he does not know. Upon defeating the villain, Light must return to where she came from. Shadow tries to discourage her and even asks to accompany her, but she insists that if she stays any longer, she risks causing catastrophic damage. She departs and Shadow vows to find her again.

Rouge and Omega join Shadow in his search to find Light. After combing the globe with no luck, their quest takes them off-world and they go on an interplanetary journey. The three become mercenaries to fund their space expedition.

Knuckles bulks up! His goal of spending time away from Angel Island did him some good!

Sonic and Amy begin a romantic relationship.

Sonic moves in with Amy.

Tails establishes Yellow Sky Industries, a company where he can begin sharing his gadgetry with the world as well as partner up with other innovators to put their genius to good use.

Stone establishes The Mean Bean coffee shop. Much to his delight, Eggman frequents this cafe but is unaware of Stone's affection.

Sonic and Amy get engaged. Upon hearing the news and growing homesick, Rouge and Omega return home, leaving Shadow to continue his journey on his own. While attending the wedding festivities, Knuckles and Rouge rekindle their budding romance.

During one of Eggman's many failed attempts at world domination, he falls victim to a near-fatal accident of his own making. Sonic rescues him, but Eggman loses his right hand in the process. Eggman is forced to reconsider his health and kickstarts some moral dilemmas for him. His attempts at world domination begin to dwindle.

Cream departs home to pursue humanitarian/Mobianitarian(?) efforts

Rouge uses her mercenary wealth to develop her own mining and jewelry business (she does not give up thievery). Knuckles is initially hired on as head excavator, but this job is only temporary until he secures enough money to fund a dream project of his.

With his own money and with the support of Yellow Sky Industries and his friends' investments, Knuckles develops the Young Heroes Program - a nonprofit youth organization. He works full time as a trainer at the program to help empower kids and strengthen the community. Sonic assists YH as needed, but is not a full-time volunteer.

Sonic and Amy decide to start a family. Aurora is conceived.

Rouge and Knuckles get married.

In one last ditch effort to regain Sonic's attention and to encourage Sage to follow in her father's footsteps**(See note), Eggman kidnaps Amy. This triggers her to go into labor early and Aurora is born. This is the nail in the coffin as far as Eggman's villainous efforts go and he makes an unspoken agreement with Sonic to 'retire' from villainy. He still plans to regularly annoy them by inserting himself into their lives. (**Note: This comic was made before Sage was introduced to the game canon. In retrospect, Sage would have been a part of this story and part of the reason Eggman decided to kidnap Amy, no matter how much Sage discouraged him. Sage instantly bonds with Aurora and vows to be her lifelong friend.)

Amy takes on a second job as an interior designer to support her family while Sonic becomes a stay-at-home dad and focuses most of his time and attention on raising Aurora.

Once Aurora is old enough, she begins attending the YH program. This is the closest Sonic will allow her to participating in any adventures.

Ruff Hyena is born

As a defense mechanism against constant bullying from her peers, Aurora’s light powers begin to manifest.

In addition to attending the Young Heroes Program, Aurora begins a mentorship with her Uncle Tails for optics/physics lessons in order to better understand her powers.

Eggman and Stone begin dating.

Aurora begins to experience premonitions in the form of dreams. Amy does her best to help Aurora hone this skill, but without much success.

Tumble Hyena is born. Ruff and Tumble are abandoned and left to fend on their own before ending up in the foster care system. They remain there for many years.

Aurora develops a crush on a boy named Kyle and they go on a few “playdates”. Aurora invites Kyle over to the house to meet her parents and Sonic does not handle it well. After an argument, Aurora and Kyle agree to not hang out together anymore.

Knuckles and Rouge adopt Ruff and Tumble.

Aurora ages out of the Young Heroes Program. Sonic discourages her from venturing out on her own and convinces her to work for YH instead.

After receiving a heartfelt message from Rouge, Shadow resigns from his quest and returns to Earth. He decides his new mission will be to get to better know the world Maria had always spoken so highly about.

Feeling “stuck” in her life, Aurora broaches the topic of moving out to be on her own. Sonic talks her out of it.

While reconnecting with The Team, Shadow is introduced to Aurora. He instantly recognizes her as the woman he’s spent the last several decades looking for, but doesn’t understand how that’s possible and she is adamant they have never met before. While telling Sonic and Amy of his world travel plans, Aurora offers to be his guide around town as she knows every inch of it. Shadow takes her up on her offer and the two quickly develop a friendship.

Shadow decides it doesn’t matter if Aurora is the Light he formerly met or not. He asks her on a date. Remembering how badly things went the last time one of Aurora’s “boyfriends” and Sonic interacted, she accepts Shadow’s courtship but only if they can keep it a secret for now. Shadow is wary of this, but agrees to her terms.

Keeping secrets from her parents begins to take a toll on Aurora, to the point she is getting sick. She tells Shadow she can’t keep lying to her family, so she tells him they shouldn’t see each other anymore. In hopes to “fix” the situation, Shadow meets with Sonic and Amy to ask their permission to date Aurora. This immediately escalates into a battle between Sonic and Shadow. Aurora intercepts the fight and, heartbroken, she tells Sonic that as much as she wants his blessing, she doesn’t need it, and is going to continue to date Shadow. Sonic, Amy and Aurora have a heart-to-heart to try and reconcile things, but Sonic makes it clear that though Aurora is a grown up and can technically date whoever she wants, she has to follow certain rules while she’s still living in their house.

Tails purchases an abandoned factory to expand Yellow Sky Industries. There, he finds the deactivated CC. He powers her on but she is severely traumatized and significantly damaged. He repairs her and after understanding how advanced her intelligence is, he offers her a job as his lab assistant.

CC quickly develops romantic feelings for Tails.

Knuckles, Rouge, Ruff and Tumble legally change their last names to “Motley”

In her pursuit to become “Mobian,” CC fabricates herself a Mobian-like body.

As Shadow and Aurora’s relationship progresses, they begin to explore more of the world together.

Tails and CC host a charity banquet. Things go awry.

Aurora gets her first apartment. She also begins a singing career.

Tails and CC officially begin a romantic relationship.

Aurora begins to have recurring premonitions about Shadow being in danger. She puts her musical tour on pause to stay vigilant.

A dangerous, mysterious entity appears and attacks The Team, severely wounding several members and nearly killing Shadow. Before the threat can be defeated, it retreats by escaping via time travel where it plans to successfully kill Shadow. With most of The Team out of commission or fearful of altering the timeline, Aurora travels back in time to save Past Shadow and the rest of her family. To protect her identity, she goes by the name “Light.”

Sonic and Shadow reconcile their differences. Sonic becomes noticeably more accepting of Shadow and Aurora’s relationship.

Shadow and Aurora get engaged and move in together.

Aurora continues her musical career.

Shadow and Aurora get married.

Ruff ages out of the Young Heroes Program and in the hopes to follow in Knuckles’ footsteps, he becomes a crime fighter. When Tumble isn’t helping his brother fight crime, he’s working on his own mechs.

Eggman and Stone digitally uploadt heir consciousness to Cyberspace so they can live indefinitely.

Shadow and Aurora decide to start a family. They have their first litter of triplets: Piper, Zane and Nova.

Shadow and Aurora have a second litter of twins: Aster and Blitz. At this time, Shadow uses the wealth he’s amassed to construct a large house that can accommodate their growing family.

Shadow and Aurora have a third litter of triplets: Cinder, Diamond and Boon.

Sonic and Amy return to a life of world traveling.

In addition to attending the Young Heroes Program, Shadow trains all of his children in how to best use their powers for the greater good of the planet.

During a fight, Cinder critically wounds Diamond with his “Stellar Tantrum” power. Boon uses his powers of healing to restore Diamond to full health without any scarring, but Cinder never forgives himself. He becomes withdrawn and distances himself from his family members from this point on.

Now everything was going to turn out fine

K. Bakugo x reader

Reader has a quirk called chaos control. Your quirk and storyline is based off the character shadow from the sonic universe but ofc not the exact same.

PART 2, AFO FINDS YOU AND MANIPULATES YOU.. MEETING THE LEAGUE.

Walking through the cold and dark halls of the lab you spent the most of your life in you tan your fingers across the walls, haunting you with the good and bad memories.

The only things good being the two friends you ever had, the two people who only ever made you feel human. ‘Sonic’ and Yoishi.

‘Sonic’ was forcefully sent for ‘scientific purposes’ by his family a little later on in life, once they’d found out about his ability of speed. Therefore when he was given his name, he decided that was all he went by.

If you were sent a little later one, same as sonic things might’ve been different for you, except it was all you’d ever known. Enough power to destroy the world. Enough power to make you a weapon. But so much, people would’ve been afraid if they knew about you, so instead you were locked away like an animal. But it’s not like you’d known any different, no previous family, or home..

Yoishi and was the only one between him and his brother who made any effort to create a bond between the three of you, making sure you were okay even in your circumstances.

Every step you took reigniting a memory.

One of them being when you were 9 and sonic was 10. It was his second year on the facility. And you finally had a friend, someone like you.

“Catch me if you can softy shadoooow.” he grinned, running in front of you as you air glided centimetres behind him.

“Im closer than you’d think blue blurr!” You shouted, not knowing you both were about to miss a corner and run right into the wall..

The memory made you slightly crack a smile, looking through one of the windows, seeing one of the tables you were sat on, wires attatched to your head, yoichi had just snuck in and made up an excuse about the doctor needing you, ripping off the wires and taking you out to eat the food left for the scientists.

Finding one of the main rooms you stood in front of yours and sonics glass chambers..

“Ah, the ultimate life form. I’ve waited for you my dear.” A voice spoke from behind you, almost slyly.

You blipped in front of the man, he had an unrecognisable face, just a mask connected with a multitude of tubes.

“Who are you.” You demanded more than asked, narrowing your eyes instinctively,

“Oh you don’t remember me Shadow? Or can I call you y/n? ..you’ve been asleep for too long y/n. And I’ve waited for you this whole time.” He replied smoothly taking a step closer to you.

“Doesn’t answer my question. Who are you and what do you want.” You don’t let down your defensive and cold manner. Yet there was something familiar about him.

“Well now I go by all for one. But you knew me before as Shigaraki. My brother was ..fond of you and the speedy little one..” his tone darkened.

“Yoichi? Where is he?!?” You asked, a glimpse of hope flickering, only to be blown out by ‘all for one’s’ next response.

“He died. During the cross fire that very night sonic died too. They took everything from you, from. us.” He lied, manipulated. He killed his brother, of course you never knew that, hearing that yoichi died the same way sonic did itched something in your brain, built up the chaos energy inside you. From working there, he understood your quirk, he knew how powerful it was. The stronger you were, the more afraid people would be of him.

“I’m offering you a chance for revenge? For what they took from us. These heroes aren’t trusted. They’re just the same as the people that took yoichi and sonic away from you. They either just want to use you or dispose of you.” He realised he’d now caught your attention.

“What do you want me to do..?” you asked fiercely, feeling the chaos swirling inside of you.

“Join me.” He lent a hand out to you, once he felt your hand reach out to his he realised he’d successfully caught his prey, just as the cunning predator would.

After weeks of being with AFO, thinking you were there for good, he introduced you to “ the league ” since he wouldn’t always be able to accompany you.

After his entrance and beginning introduction, he left with “she is Shadow.” Everyone had their own questions, like

“Why do you have rings on? Or are they bracelets? Either way they’re super cute!!” A girl with blonde hair in space buns, who you later learnt to be toga, complimented.

“Who does your hair? It’s magnificent” a man with a top hat with a yellow feather and a white and black mask asked juggling marbles, you later found to be mr compress.

But finally someone who was more serious.

“So what’s your story ..why are you so dark? Hm?” A tall guy with black spiky hair and purple patches on his body asked you, putting out a cigarette on the wall and sitting on a stool with you while kurogiri made you something to drink.

“I was tested on for years. One day my powers caused an explosion in the lab. People died so they killed the closest people to me and froze me for 50 years.” You eyes low, your voice intense.

“Wait your like 50?” Toga asked, jumping to sit by you.

“No. I’m 16. Like I said, I was frozen in time and space, so I didn’t age at all.” You explained to her.

“Your like a walking time capsule then huh? What was it like 50 years ago?” She grabbed your hands and began squeezing.

“I don’t know, I was stuck in a lab. Didn’t really have much time to sight see.” You brood.

“Your funny I like you. Your so pouty.” She twirled one of the red pieces of your y/h/l, y/h/t hair.

“Ignore her.” ‘Dabi’ raised a glass to his mouth.

“But I get it, the whole lab rat thing. I had a similar situation.” He raised his brows, and looked down at you knowingly. It was almost comforting.

Maybe it wasn’t gonna be so bad after all.

Back at UA, none of the pros could find any background about you, but izuku, being one of the wielders of ofa, and being able to speak to yoishi, even briefly, was able to find out about her, it was little but at this point anything helps.

The pros, working with police and being able to check every camera in the city found footage of you being led by afo and thought it was kidnapping. Now they buckled down even harder to save you.

It had only been two weeks, but they knew enough from izuku, and eventually to understand the fully situation principal nezu met with the colonel and got their side of the story.

Bakugo couldn’t stop thinking of you. The thought of someone being stronger, faster. So mysterious and even ..beautiful. He’d never thought about any girl this way before. It even angered himself when he did because the thought of you was uncontrollable, yet you’d only met once.

But little did they know, they’d see you sooner than they thought. Because the league was planning to attack the USJ..
