Alex Rider S3 timeline

Season 1 Timeline | Misc Timeline Notes

Some facts:

For time of year we know s3 takes place in the winter, based on dialogue from Blunt and Smithers

The trees in the background during establishing shots are just as unreliable as in s2 but during actor shots they're a mix of green and barren (most notably the cherry tree in front of the Rider house), implying late winter, probably February.

I don't know anything about the British school system, but Tom mentions having taken his GCSEs in ep1 so they're presumably on holiday from whatever comes after that (sixth form? A levels? it's Maltese to me).

Now we look at the elephant in the room. John Rider:

There are two different timestamps on the recording of the bridge exchange. 06/01/2005 and 2005-05-21. Not sure what the discrepancy means but since the latter has to be May we can assume that the former is formatted for June (as opposed to January). Also, Alex wasn't born yet in January 2005.

Alex's birthday is 13 Feb, 2005 (according to a prop from s2ep8)

Julia says that Alex was six months old, but based on the time stamp he was closer to three months old (easy mistake)

John and Helen Rider's gravestone puts their deaths in 2006 and Julia says it took her six months to track them down after the bridge exchange, so that checks out

Now in the present Mrs Jones says that it's been 17 years since Scorpia was destroyed, which would make s3 take place in early 2023

Alex is about to or just turned 17 years old

And therefore he was 15 in s1 and s2

S3 takes place over the course of nine days, which I think we can all agree is absolutely ridiculous, but that's how it works out.

Day 1: Boat ride; find Julia Rothman's house; Kyra's soup accident

Day 2: Identify and research Julia; Museum art showing

Day 3: Scorpia sends threat to Kellner; Tom and Alex go to Julia's villa; Pritchard gets blown up; Alex sneaks into Consanto and it blows up too; Alex goes to Malagosto

Day 4: Scorpia kills the footballers; Tom and Kyra get arrested; Julia tells Alex about his dad getting killed on the bridge; and Yassen! Is here!

Day 5: The assault course and the water bottle; shooting challenge; getting beat up by the other trainees; Pritchard's funeral; Tom and Kyra trace the call to Malagosto and Nile tries to send them home; the incursion assessment

Day 6: Shinai (Bokken) 5 on 1; Department calls Scorpia back and Scorpia gives them three days; Kyra and Tom find Malagosto; Smithers and Crawley find Julia's litter; Syl graduates; Jack gets a delivery from Tom; Max Grendel gets Yassassinated

Day 7: Everyone gets back to London; Blunt asks the CIA for help; Alex and Yassen surveil Jones' flat; Jack, Kyra, and Tom go to the Department; Navy Seals raid Malagosto; Alex doesn't kill Jones and gets sent back to the Department

Day 8: Nile sets up in the big church; Crawley takes Alex home; Blunt and Julia do storytime for Alex and Yassen

Day 9: Alex goes back into the Department; MI5 try to take Alex; Alex calls Julia for a pickup; a bunch of people in Bath don't die; Blunt retires; Alex comes in and gets John's medals; Nile gets Yassassinated

Just thinking about like. Early in their partnership as ARCs, Toast getting irritated with Ashe after a shit show of a mission for throwing himself willy-nilly into danger like ‘you can’t just fuck off like that’, and Ashe getting mad right back like ‘that’s fucking rich coming from you, also it’s our job, advanced recon commando, means we don’t let the fight come to us we get in the fight’s face’

Followed by Toast saying yea, true, but we’re partners, we gotta like talk and stuff because where you go I go yknow

And Ashe just, more annoyed, firing back that it doesn’t matter so long as the fight is won, when he (Ashe) dies it’ll be a blip in the system and then Toast can shop around for another ARC to barnacle himself to

And Toast, stressed out and a tiny bit desperate because he wants to make his point but it feels like he’s messing up, blurting out he’s never worked with anyone as well as he’s worked with Ashe, that he doesn’t want to try, that Ashe is it for him, so please don’t leave him here and go where he can’t follow

And this hits Ashe in the gut (even though he absolutely refuses to show it) because he lost almost his whole company, including his batch mates, despite doing his best to avoid it. He knows what it means to be the one left behind. But war is war and all it does is take, and he’ll say as much.

And Toast will ask if it’s so bad to hope for an ‘after’, and that if their luck runs out can they at least go down together, which makes Ashe laugh kinda incredulous kinda mocking, like ‘so, what- together or not at all? 🤨’

But Toast is shrugging and smiling, lopsided and dopey and so earnest despite it all, like ‘yeah, together or not at all.’

Which comes back around days or weeks later when Toast gets seriously injured in the field, and in the medevac Ashe snags him by the chin to jostle his head none-too-gently, keep him from passing out and force him to focus on Ashe, snapping “Hey, hey, together or not at all, you hear me?” worried as hell and hiding it very poorly

And even with broken ribs and internal bleeding Toast still smiles, sweet and sunny and not even a little teasing, like “yeah boss, I hear you”

And then much later when Toast is out of the woods and Ashe is fussing over him, changing and rewrapping his bandages, they’ll have their first kiss and become absolutely and irrevocably attached at the hip 😌

I saw your Dedue post you made recently and OMG THANK YOU SOMEONE HAD TO SAY IT. I’d love to message you further about your other 3houses opinions cause gd your mind.

Honestly like lmao I wasn't specifically trying to call anyone out in particular but it's so so so hard to find interpretations of Dedue that like. Actually consider that perhaps he has complex reasons for talking about himself like he does before the time skip, that rationally follow from his experiences and aren't just like, oh he's got such poor self esteem. Dedue's not Bernadetta, he's as assertive as it's safe for him to be given PEOPLE EXPLICITLY WANT TO KILL HIM for just fucking existing.

If Dimitri wasn't protecting him he would have gotten straight up murdered well before he learned to tank as hard as he tanks, and that's not even counting that first time Dimitri intervened in people actively trying to murder Dedue after successfully murdering his family for the crime of Existing While From Duscur. Like, hello!!!! He's been isolated from his community, from his language, from his culture, surrounded by people who hate him, but with nowhere else to go. Literally everyone else he knew died and his homeland was burned to the ground.

Dimitri is the only person in the WORLD who wants him to live. Of course he's neurotic as fuck about Dimitri. Dimitri is literally all he has left in the world to cling to, and people keep trying to kill Dimitri! It's 100% reasonable for Dedue before the timeskip to feel like he has fucking nothing if he doesn't have Dimitri. Objectively that's true!!!

Like, after the timeskip, he comes back having spent time back among his own people, seeing that his culture isn't gone and he does have something to fight to preserve. He survives because his community comes to save him. He comes back wearing VERY expensive full-body armor (like for real that's absurd amounts of steel and master craftsmanship) with Duscur's motif enameled on the pauldrons, wearing Duscur-woven clothing and accompanied by a whole group of his countrymen fighting alongside him to reach Dimitri. His post-timeskip design screams that he's been reintegrated into his home culture. Of course he's in a better place after that!

None of his emotional development happens in a vacuum! Dedue struggles with his self-worth when he's cut off from his community, and is able to self-actualize only after reconnecting with his community. Azure Moon has so many themes about community healing after trauma, and about relying on support in order to lift all boats together. All the Lions start the game fractured and damaged because of the breakdown of the social contract in Faerghus and improve through Azure Moon by banding together and healing the fractured relationships. Dedue can't be his best self when he's isolated from his roots. Ignoring that I feel like really misses the themes Dedue brings to the table.

IT BEGINS —

You don’t remember much of your early childhood - nothing besides your brother and the small family you’ve been raised in. But, you do remember the strange sort of mist, surrounding the house you’ve lived in ; the kind of mist that seems dangerous, hiding sharp teeth and malicious glares. For reasons unknown, you’ve always felt uneasy about it - always felt there’s more to it than just a natural occurrence. Your brother seemed immune to the fear which terrorised you, but being older by a few years, it was only natural that such things would virtually have no effect on him - in fact, he seemed rather unphazed by its presence ; and it was his calmness which soothed your own discomfort about it. As you grew, you started to pay less attention to the mist and more to the world around you - the trees, the people ; animals. You’ve always been a bubbly child, talkative and prone to making friends, and your sweet, kind hearted nature served as a magnet to the people in your vicinity. Still, despite having many acquaintances, you didn’t have as many close friends as you would’ve liked - perhaps only one or two ; and even around them you felt something… odd simmering beneath the surface. You can’t say they made you uncomfortable, but there was an air of insincerity about them that you didn’t know the source of - and it was the fear of the unknown which made you reluctant to truly share secrets with anyone outside of your little family - namely, your brother.

You remember the day your brother’s power surged - and you remember waiting for the majority of your childhood to taste your own - and yet, your veins remained barren of it. At first you admitted to everyone how it bothered you, complete dead silence in your bones and your soul, the lack of power which makes everyone in the kingdom special and unique. You feel like your uniqueness comes from nothingness - and you sense how most of the people around you look at you with either pity or thinly veiled ridicule in their eyes. You keep brushing it off, waving your hand dismissively and saying it no longer bothers you - that being fully, tragically and disappointingly normal is something you’re content with. Not even your brother knows the true extent of your displeasure with it - you keep hoping your power will one day awaken, so why bother him - or anyone else - with your woes and wailings? Instead of treating it like a tragedy, you’ve decided to treat it as a minor setback in your life - so what you’re normal? There are many others who had their power manifest late in their lives - and they’ve lived a happy, fulfilled life nevertheless. Deciding that the village you grew up in was restrictive to your general advancement, your parents arranged for you to join the court of the New King and, one night via carriage, transported you to the large, and quite frankly a little intimidating, palace of Asteria’s reigning monarch.

NOW IT COMES TO —

You still don’t fit in - being a Lady was not something you were prepared to become and now you find yourself a little confused with what to do. You’re supposed to wait on the Queen - but, the New King stubbornly remains unmarried, putting you out of your purpose. Still, you’ve made some connections at court, made new friends and for the first time in your life you don’t feel as tense as before. The King is treating you nicely and with the announcement of his upcoming nuptials to Sotera’s Spare Princess, you’re finding yourself giddying up - finally, you’ll have something tangible to do, rather than just lounging around the palace reading books, strolling the gardens and practising your dancing skills. 

HEADCANONS.

character traits:  + traits loyal, gentle, kind, generous, friendly.  - traits shy, stubborn, lack of confidence, deflective. headcanons. she often has nightmares about a hooded figure calling out her name from deep within a strange looking, pale green fog. she often wakes up in sweat afterwards and has trouble falling asleep for the rest of the night. likes animals. upon arrival to the asterian court, she adopted a young, black kitten who got lost and couldn’t find it’s mother again. she calls it xiao hei. zhao yan is a night owl, she prefers to say up late, but also doesn’t like to sleep in late. she finds a day wasted if she wakes up too long after the sun has risen.

 POWER.

necromancy - dormant. tw decomposing. tw mentions of death. she cannot access her powers, but necromancy (once awakened) would become her core power. she would be able to raise the dead - any dead, but she is limited by the number of how many dead she can resurrect at the time. if she wants to resurrect a 'freshly' deceased body, it would take her under a minute, but would take her few minutes to recover. the more she uses the power, the longer is the period of recovery. if the body has been decomposing or is a complete skeleton, it would take her an hour to get them back to the original state (the power of reverse decay) and more than a few hours to recover - sometimes even days. she can use her power on more than one person/object/animal, but her recovery period would significantly lengthen in time. decay - dormant. her secondary power, she can use it in reverse form when practicing necromancy, but she can also use it to speed up the process of decay itself. just like her core power, her decay powers also have a cooling off period depending to which extent she uses them.
