Didn't love this one as much as the first 2 mark of the lion books. I think it's just that the characters didn't resonate with me very well. Still better than a lot of books to be fair.

okay I know the “do you bleed?” line in Batman V Superman was universally mocked, but imagine if you’ve spent your whole life invulnerable and some crazy motherfucker dressed in a bat suit who brands people for fun and has no problem crashing millions of dollars worth of military grade tech stares at you with a crazy gleam in his eye and asks if you bleed like he’s personally and scientifically invested in seeing you do so. I would’ve shit my pants, super powers be damned.

seriously though nothing can stop me from interpreting Real Life as canon just for how it progresses the canary curse situation. i'm obsessed with it. the curse gets broken in secret life and then in the very next "series", as much of a joke as it is, you get a situation like THAT. jimmy enters a mineshaft and everyone but him dies. not just his team, though obviously it's more significant because they were all red, but ren/martyn/skizz all get a mineshaft-death apiece. that canary's not doing his job anymore. he escaped his cage and made a break for the surface and everyone else is paying the price for it, and i for one could not be more proud of that little bird.

one of the funniest gigs in pre-timeskip was that whenever Zoro tried to be considerate with the coward trio while handling their eager stupid captain is that this thing would bound to happen regardless of anything at all....

fundamentally a slayer is a human sacrifice. and a great deal of the conflict in the early seasons stems from buffy's rebellion against that reality. she doesn't just want to live, she wants to live like a person who has a future, who isn't fated to die before her brain finishes developing. and then the monks create dawn, this version of buffy who isn't the slayer, who actually has a life ahead of her. she is the living embodiment of everything buffy has ever fought for. the idea that dawn could also become a human sacrifice is unthinkable, so buffy chooses to finally accept her own death, the very thing she's been fighting against this whole time, in order to let this version of herself that has something to look forward to live. except it doesn't work! and she has to actually figure out how to live anyway, and how to coexist with the version of herself that she wishes she could be. insane shit. storyline of all time.
