So just like we see at the beginning, Curt & Owen love fucking around with the bad guys they find on their missions & “use them for sport” as Owen says. & they love to rub it in their faces just how damn good they are that they can just use them for fun in their own little games

Sometimes they get more roughed up if the other is the one interrogating them. They’re both masochists who never want to admit defeat, so yeah they’ve walked away with blood & broken bones (only minor breaks but STILL)

Curt loves playing with the spy gadgets regardless of how many times Barb tries to warn him, or how many times he ends up hurting himself with them zksvksjaz. He never tells her when he does it tho because that will just end up in a lecture

Curt & Owen will mock each other’s bosses to make each other laugh after they get chewed out for being dumb & reckless

They have to share hotel rooms quite often to “save the agencies money” & before they actually got together it was just straight up torture for them

The first time they had to share a bed on one of these missions, they were both freaking out internally & trying to play it cool. But then Owen found out Curt hogs all the blankets & suddenly he wasn’t feeling so smitten, just pissed off & cold

They flirt in the job soooo much it should be obvious at this point

One of the first epiphanies that Owen has about his partner comes when Curt fixed his tie for him & Owen was a little off his game for the rest of the night because he kept thinking about Curt’s hands so close to his throat & his lips in perfect kissing distance

They absolutely help each other pick out their outfits when they go undercover

After they get together, they play a game where they talk about what their lives would be like if they weren’t spies & they just make up a whole ass fake domestic life for them where they adopt a dog, then a cat (as practice) & when they’re “ready” they adopt a kid & have a happy lil family

They also play this game where they pretend they went into different professions & make up different ways they met each other

Curt is great at poker & wins most of the time they play

Before they met, Curt really wasn’t a tea guy, but Owen makes him “real” tea & makes him realize he actually likes it as long as it’s made right. Perks of dating a Brit

I kind of see what you mean regarding the Masters 8. Instead of it being a finalist tournament with more matchups, you wanted a one on one race to the top? But it’d be hard to imagine the Champions just sitting there and not battling each other, also wanting to climb the ladder, unless if their positions were fixed from last years tournament and Ash, would be the “only” challenger, probably beating Iris and Alain since they’re new, and then beating the champions in reverse rank order until Leon? I struggle to see his Cyndaquil and Oshawott beating out whole dragons tho. How do you feel about the match ups chosen in JN? They’re so funny. We thought Alain VS Ash would get a turnaround but he got cooked to show how unbeatable Leon is. Lance got the short end of the stick VS Diantha. Steven was perfect defeat fodder to them. Then Cynthia, who Ash knew the most and is 2nd strongest. Cynthia VS Iris was just bullying at this rate lol, and mandatory girl VS girl fight. I think I’d change it to be Alain VS Ash. Iris VS Lance. Steven VS Diantha. (Old rivals, Dragon masters, Kalos team) but Cynthia’s fans would be SO mad if she lost to Leon. Unless if I kick Leon out and add another person and winning the M8 gives you the right to face him. He doesn’t get to join otherwise.

Also, cmon, by that time the staff was already commited to taking Ash off the anime. Between seeing champions battle eachother and the boy we've been with for 20+ years battling people he met in that never ending journey, which one is more interesting for anime viewers?

And honestly I wouldn't care how forced the wins would be LMAO i would be more than happy to see Oshawott taking down Iris' Haxorus :v (but also, many of those "weaker" pokemon could evolve here too. And we know how evolution is a game changer in battles remember cameron's lucario? of course you do!)

But all in all I get why they didn't go with it. Most of the battles would be 1 episode long, perhaps not even full 6v6 and I'm sure some of Ash's older mons were voiced by Oak's deceased VA so I get it.

But still.. it was Ash's last moments... I would totally prefer that and sacrifice the 11 mezamas episodes for it.. It would've been so so cathartic, to see how far he had come, to see him use all his pokemon one last time, and to give every fan closure, despite whatever their favorite season was.

With all that said, the final bracket we got is exactly what I wanted LMAO

I was never into the Alain rematch bandwagon (i dont care for his "rivalry" with Ash much sorry); Iris already had a match with Ash in the middle of Journeys so they would never battle here again; Cynthia was TOTALLY gonna be the "final challenge" before Leon (rightfully so) and between the remaining ones Steven is by far the most interesting for me.

But honestly I expected the writers to have Ash vs Lance instead of Ash vs Steven (the Kanto boy vs the Kanto champion, poetic and all despite the fact I find Lance OH SO boring) so because of that I was expecting Iris vs Alain (so she could kick his butt beautifully) and Steven vs Cynthia (Sinnoh over Hoenn 5ever dont at me) and maybe let Lance win against Diantha (RIP queen) and then we could have Leon vs Iris in the second round and continue as usual.

Still thinking about Pokemon chars + video games and tbh I see Cynthia having Opinions on the assassin's creed franchise (mostly she gets weird about historical accuracy and can and will go on long winded rants to Diantha about the time period of whichever game she's playing)

Idk how I forgot about guitar hero. It's such a cliche but idc nobody can beat Roxie at that shit. That's one of her easy win games when she just wants to have a guaranteed win (despite being unsure if they'd ever meet, if they hypothetically ever did, Diantha would give her a run for her money and Roxie would get Very upset about her throne being shaken) (once Diantha understands the rhythm of something, I imagine it's really easy for her brain to grasp what she's supposed to do. She'd probably do really well at something like crypt of the necrodancer but idk if she'd ever play it. Roxie definitely does tho)

Tbh despite not seeing Diantha being one for video games, I feel like if she and Roxie were to ever meet somehow, something about Roxie would ignite her competitive spirit. Purely in the sense of multiplayer rhythm games. Having someone match or challenge her sense of rhythm in general is exhilarating for her and I can see them both getting into a really intense competitive flow. I still don't see Diantha giving a shit about games but if it's with the right person it's different.

I don't see them meshing particularly well outside of this context, either. I see them being far too different in too many ways. That's why this entire situation is very much a hypothetical lol

Anyways, I’ve been thinking about the Masters Eight tournament and I’m still disappointed with how it was handled

And I know you don’t care much for the Anime, but just hear me out about how I think it should’ve went

The competitors should’ve been Ash, Iris, Cynthia, Diantha, Steven, Alder (not totally sure about him), Wallace, and Lance (they’re not ranked in this order). With Leon being the final challenge to the winner

I hated that Leon was a competitor because it just guarantees that whoever he faces is automatically going to lose

But yeah, I just think if it’s the MASTERS Eight then it should be the strongest trainers. Which are the Champions both present and past, hence Wallace and Alder being here

I’m kicking Alain out because he just felt like he was chosen as a competitor at the last minute when he had no true reason to join the PWC. Plus he ain’t a Champion

Another thing I was annoyed with was the Battle Field, like if you look at the Kalos League battle field in the Anime, it actually looks cool and had different battle fields. It wasn’t a generic rectangular box. The Masters Eight should’ve at least had a nicer looking battle field than…what they gave us

Last thing I want to rant about, but ALL battles should’ve been 6vs6 and not 3vs3 in the first round. The battles would’ve been so much better to watch if they were full battles

But yeah, it would’ve been a great send off if Ash had competed with the Champions from each Region, won the tournament, and then won the title of World Champion from Leon as the final challenge

The way they handled the Masters Eight was smth else man it was such a cool concept but the way they executed it is just cnmdndjd😭😭

What I'm saying is,, should the competitors battle within Wyndon Stadium to be counted in it or do they have some sort of trainer card registration thing that automatically knows how many battles you had and how much you improved as a trainer? I got the urge to talk about Ash’s goal in JN/the M8 tournament again (this ended up becoming so long that I divided it into two sections. First part talks about the issues, the second focuses more on what could have been done about them):

The issues:

I think the root issue with this whole tournament is that Ash announced Leon as his main goal/rival for the season so early into JN. Why is that an issue, someone might ask? Well, for the simple reason that it makes the battles before the finale so damn predictable. Imagine watching an Ash vs Cynthia battle where you don’t know beforehand who the winner is. That’s pretty exciting, right? Cynthia is considered one of the strongest champions there is, after all. But now, we already know that Ash has to win her (let’s not even get to the way how he’s gonna win bc I’m already upset about that) so that means that there are very little stakes going into that battle. 

Well, there are certain battles that prove that the stakes don’t /always/ have to be high in order for the battle to be entertaining (*ahem* Ash vs Kukui, which is an exhibition match, but still for me it’s the best battle in the entire pokeani because it is set up so well) if the battle at least holds some meaning to the characters. Taking Ash vs Kukui as an example, already in episode 2 of S&M it was teased that Ash and Kukui will probably battle at some point. In that episode their battling plans were interrupted because Tapu Koko himself wanted to challenge Ash. Well, after that we see those two form the father-son like relationship and we also see Ash get interested in Battle Royals, where Kukui’s Incineroar and Ash’s Torracat become rivals. It gets even better when Ash finds out who his exhibition match opponent actually is (remember that he thought he was going to battle Masked Royal), and all of that is enough to make it a battle to remember. 

But... What kind of relationship does Ash have with his current M8 opponents? When it comes to Steven, Ash has only met him a couple of times; the first time in AG when he was looking for some rocks and Ash didn’t even know he was the champion of Hoenn, and the second time in XY&Z when they briefly interacted during the Team Flare arc. The only thing in JN that even hinted that we might see Steven in a future episode was in episode 105 when Wallace gets mad at Ash bc he remembers Steven and not him. While Ash seemed excited about an opportunity to battle him (bc c’mon, Ash is excited to battle /anyone/), we did not get to see them interact properly before the battle nor was there any kind of building up for a rivalry between them. 

When it comes to Cynthia, she was seen in several occasions during JN mostly due to the DP remakes/Legends: Arceus, but again their interaction was not the kind that rivals have. To me it felt more like a researcher and some kid that she has met in the past. I will admit that I don’t remember all of their interactions in DP era by heart, but even there Cynthia was never “the one to beat” for Ash, she still seemed so far ahead of him back then. This battle /could/ still be interesting if executed well simply due to the fact that we are talking about /the/ Cynthia and her scarily strong Garchomp here, but... well, based on what we already know about these upcoming episodes, I am not expecting much. That’s a story for another time, tho.

I’m not getting deeper into the topic of Leon or the other M8 contestants this time, but in conclusion also these other characters suffer from lack of any build up prior to the battle, specifically lack of interacting with Ash or their respective M8 opponents.

How to fix

There are a few ways how that could be fixed but here’s how I would do it: instead of making /Leon/ Ash’s goal right away, I think it would be better if he simply got interested in the pokemon world championships in general, and excited about the chance to battle /lots/ of strong trainers along the way. Of course he would still keep his eye on Leon due to him being the current number 1, but he would not have as much focus as Ash’s “main” rival and Ash wouldn’t declare “I want to beat YOU”, instead it being “I want to beat them all!”. I know this is supposed to be the “Sword and Shield” anime (ahem... let’s not talk about the fact that it has not exactly done a great job at showcasing Galar in general. I  think this series as a whole would be better if it was “Galar only” or at least “Galar mainly” instead if being set up mostly in Vermilion City, Kanto.) so it’s natural from that point of view that Leon gets more focus, but story telling wise it would be better if there were more rivals who would also get a decent amount of screen time. It would add to the unpredictability factor.

Speaking of rivals, in advance it seemed like a great idea that all of the contestants were champions (that must mean great battles. Right. Right?) but if I had to decide now, I would probably change the lineup. Either have it be characters that have meant something to Ash in the past (Paul, Brandon, Alain, Gladion, Gary?? f. ex.) or characters from Sword and Shield, who could have gotten more attention throughout the series (Bea is the closest Ash has to a rival in JN if we forget about Leon, but f. ex. Raihan, Marnie, /Bede/ could have had a bigger role). While on the paper sounds it like fun that champions battle each other, in reality these battles have remained paper thin because of the poor execution of the battles themselves (which I’ve talked about in my previous posts so I won’t get there now) and also due to the lack of building up for them prior to the battles. That’s why it would be better if the characters in question would at least mean something to Ash aside from being champions of x region whom Ash may have met once or twice in the past. 

Related to that previous point: even if Leon stayed as Ash’s main rival in this tournament, it could still have been improved by making the match ups more meaningful. Ash could have battled Iris or Alain instead of Steven and that would already have made me more interested. Also, we definitely needed an episode (or even 2) before the tournament started where the competitors would have just interacted.

I might have also made the Ash vs Leon an exhibition match instead of finale of the tournament because, again, now we know how these other battles are going to end. 

Even if writers had changed none of the things above, the tournament could definitely have been improved by changing small things about the battles themselves: less ohko:s, shorter, faster gimmick sequences, etc.

All that said, maybe the rest of the tournament will surprise me and be better than I expected 😅 A girl can hope!

 So I need more fics where Pegasus's dead fiance is an actual girl from Vegas and not a bland blank blonde stereotype. Cyndia or Cynthia or Cecilia or Cici or literally whatever name she has today, I want to see her as a girl who FITS Pegasus. I wanna see the kind of girl who would be into a flamboyant nerdy artist who randomly takes off to other continents. The kind of girl who would go with him, in a heartbeat, and had she been there, probably would have decked Shadi and somehow stolen the Millennium Scales and everybody would be like "WHY IS THE INCREDIBLY UNSTABLE BLOND USING AN ITEM ABOUT BALANCE????"

I wanna see the kind of girl who grew up in under glitzy blinding lights and horrendous sexism at every turn. The kind of girl who would wear a skimpy dress and a feather head dress and walk the strip, getting her picture taken with tourists and charging them an arm and a leg, and then immediately turning around and taking a group of lost looking college students to the best hole in the wall bar or most expensive Vegas eatery and treating them all night with the money she stole from tourists, eventually leaving suddenly like a glamorous mirage and only her incredible headdress left on the head of a freaked out Ukrainian exchange student as a sign she was ever real.

The kind of girl whose uncle taught her how to cheat at cards at age five and whose daddy taught her how to play poker professionally at fifteen, purely so that she would never get laid, because every time she'd tell a boy she's a professional poker player, he'd immediately open his mouth to tell her the best strategy to win and she'd never want anywhere near him. JOKES ON DADDY, THO, HE DIDN'T PLAN FOR A MASSIVE ARTIST NERD WHO WAS MORE INTERESTED IN A CHILDREN'S CARD GAME THAN POKER. her daddy never liked Pegasus, but oh well, he's rich and that was pretty much the only reason her mom married him, so daddy puts up with it.

I wanna see the kind of girl that has people going both "Max, she's too good for you" and "oh no, Max, you don't deserve this, she's absolutely cheating on you, you know that right?" And the thing is, HE DOES KNOW THAT except it's not really cheating when he KNOWS and is FINE and also sometimes there are PARTIES and he goes there and that quiet little refined artist sure didn't last after he got together with her. He still has those edges when he wants to, but he rarely wants to, not when he can be totally off the rails and rude and all it does is make her laugh and laugh and laugh.

The kind of girl who didn't die sadly wasting away from cancer, but in a shoot out with the mob. Not because she didn't have cancer, she did, but she refused to DIE that way, so she went out looking for trouble until she found it and sadly that is the route of some of Pegasus's issues. He never really got to say goodbye, because around the fifth time she left the hospital in some kind of too short shorts to look for trouble off the strip, he just assumed she'd always make it back to him. I mean, she'd done this five times and this was his firebunny, his toon princess, she was immortal except for the cancer. And to be fair, she made it back to him a LOT of times, like, a lot a lot of times, the fifth time was just when he stopped worrying. So he didn't say goodbye, that night, that final time, when she didn't come back and that didn't help anything.

Basically, I wanna see Pegasus's fiance as a girl from a song by the Killers and I'm not sorry.

i think that when it comes to raphaels relationship with the back its a gradual process. he probably comes around and increases his time around them each time as he visits maia. when he visits them he probably brings over food and talk to the more quieter ones to gain their trust. with maia, though she makes everyone instantly feel safe around her, she probably starts to talk to some of the older members of the clan and listen to their stories while providing her own

oooh that's a good take! it makes sense, too, raphael has been around for a lot longer than maia has (for obvious reasons) so he has more history with the pack (and vice-versa) than maia does the clan. and while i think that the both of them want to make downworlder relationships better, it's a little hard to shake the distrust when the pack has been openly hostile towards them for a while (like in all the interactions i remember between werewolves and vampires the wolves attacked first? but i might misremember)

but that also means he knows which ones will be hardest to get to come around and which ones he can start working with. and yes bringing food absolutely!! love how we all agree that raphael solves all his problems with food one way or another. we are right and we should say it

i also feel like he gets along better with the newer wolves - less time there to build animosity and resentment, and all that stuff. i actually would really like him and bat to become friends. bat sure seems to need it, plus he's going to be at least a little more open to vampires not only because he's new, but also because simon helped him. also, i mean, they are the only latino downworlders we got, basically. i think that raphael sees a lot of himself in bat, that feeling of suddenly losing your family, the way he's clearly lost and depressed, and raphael gets it because he knows how it feels like losing everything twice, and how the latino community is important for them, and issues with religion and guilt that are present even when someone isn't religious, but being raised in a catholic environment is no joke, i'd know

anyway my point is, bat was just turned and they have a lot in common including sharing the same culture and a painfully similar story, and i think raphael sees his younger self in him. so he gets particularly close to bat at first, without even meaning to. he knows the difference having someone who understands makes, and he wasn't raised by magnus to be the sort of person who just leaves someone struggling like that. first time he visits the pack, he basically makes a beeline for bat out there in the furthest corner and sits down so gently and talks to him so softly everyone is kind of taken aback

and i feel like the pack would be protective of bat, because he's not only new but also quite young, so there's some growling, but again, raphael is just, gentle, and doesn't push it. he just tells bat in spanish that if he needs someone to talk to, raphael is there. then next time he brings bat's favorite food for the pack. bat eats it quietly and he's like "not as good as your abuela's, is it?" and it makes bat smile

so he wins the pack over like he usually does - patiently and carefully. next time the pack gets in trouble with shadowhunters, he steps in to help and offers assistance from the clan (nothing like a common enemy to help improve relationships) and slowly he starts to show more of his sarcastic, witty self, which the pack takes a liking to because they are very... biker gang-ish jdndjdn and i feel like they have this sorta "slapping you in the shoulder and talking shit while drunk" bonding culture, so, while that's not raphael's style, getting to see the sides of him that aren't all "still, quiet and cunning vampire" definitely helps a lot

and yes, i also feel like maia's relationship with the clan goes more swiftly? again there's less history there, and again i feel like we saw less hostility from the clan to the wolves than the other way around (tho that might just be my perception because we got to see a lot more of them due to the 'luke takes simon in' storyline). not that there isn't any, of course, but the vampires are not gonna just turn their backs to her and growl and act like she isn't there, but some wolves definitely will do that to raphael (i am looking directly at you, russell). plus she's just. very nice and outgoing and she has that way of just, breaking down your defenses? like she's the kind of girl who arrives at the dumort and kind of flops down on the couch and is like "oh you guys have videogames? who's good at mario kart?" and when everyone just looks at her she's like "well?" and they have to be like. "uh. cynthia?" and she's like "okay cynthia wanna play?"

(it's deliberate, of course, because she knows going in slowly will probably mean it'll take forever. especially after everything that went down with camille and literal decades of having their relationships ruled by her, the vampires are very wary of people who don't say their intentions straight away and who seem to calculate everything they do. so she tries to act as open as possible. and if someone's threatened by that, well, she can hold her ground, but she also knows she won't have to because raphael has her back)

(as soon as she gets cynthia to play with her, raphael smiles, ducking his head down all proudly, and the vampires decide that okay, they can give her a chance, yeah)

the idea that she gets along with the older vampires seems on brand, too, she does look like granny bait djdndj just the sort of person that old people love? because she's respectful and bright and just a little on the "tired of this world" side, and that definitely draws some of the vampires to her

there's also the fact that she already dated simon, so they know her at least a bit, and definitely know how she stood by him when the pack was hostile. plus, well, she has had her own hostilities with certain parts of the pack, so the fact that she can be like "ugh, russell is a pain in the ass" gets them to like her and disarms them further. it doesn't look like she's going to be on her pack's side no matter what

and yes she's a good listener and a good storyteller, so it makes so much sense that she would go that way! listen to their life stories, ask questions about their early/mundane days, and suddenly they're getting nostalgic and they feel, safe? and suddenly it's like the tension in the air is gone, by the time she leaves

also, they already know her from taki's and know how she made it a point to have plenty of options for vampires to eat, so that earns her points, definitely

i know that i've already talked a lot but i just also wanted to say that it's very funny to me that maia gets along with the clan relatively fast, so when she visits it's like "ah a member of the family", whereas raphael is still like "i am on step 3/274 on my Winning The Pack Over plan, and within two months i should be able to sit on the central table"

but anyway! i absolutely loved that take and your ideas, and would be happy to know more opinions on how this could happen, what their relationship would look like once they had already settled into a friendship, and more. if anyone else wants to join in, please do so!

Rival Destinies

Another season, another... unexpectedly good time. Unexpected to a degree, I knew this season had the Elesa and Roxy fights which I remembered as being terribad, but also the Meloetta arc, which I remembered being my favorite part. Elesa was exactly as bad as expected. So FIRST he forgets that Snivy is a girl, which he is bad about figuring out what gender pokemon are at first, but he's never really had trouble remembering them. and SECOND and WORST OF ALL, he says Snivy still has the advantage against Emolga, because Grass resists Electric. By no stretch of the imagination should he forget a Pokemon Iris has is part flying type, and even worse, he was using Palpitoad before, her Emolga had not used a single electric type move all match, it DID however use Aerial Ace and Acrobatics, AND YET HE THOUGHT SNIVY WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA CAUSE IT RESISTS ELECTIC. So yeah, while the first Trip batle is probably what people think of when they remember Pikachu being reset, this fight is prolly what people remember Ash being reset. The Roxy battle was executed pretty well, but on a conceptual level, having Ash need all 6 of his Pokemon to beat Roxy's 3 is just bad. Other than that the gyms were fine, the Clay battle was actually better than a lot of DP gyms. Even the one where Cameron gets his 8th badge was pretty decent. Nothing spectacular but still alright. Oh, also Cameron appeared. Dunno who Cameron is? Don't worry, I have an essay prepared for why he spawns what I consider the worst battle in the whole series, but that's for next season. Lastly the Meloetta arc, def met expectations, still probably my favorite part of the BW gen. Dawn and Cynthia coming back was fun, Ash met Giovanni in the main show for the first time, and Meloetta was just fun to have around. Okay then, second things second! Pikachu has restored his 88% win rate!~ Krookodile finally joins the team, and while his win rate isn't the best, one of those wins IS against Iris' Dragonite. Speaking of which, wonder if her having a Dragonite will have us see a rise in the number of Pseudo Legend wins there are~ Oshawott's win rate was in the gutter this whole gen, and only recovered because he wanted to protect Meloetta. Leavanny is killin it, if the battle I remember him having in the Unova League is his only one he ties with Infernape, prolly isnt tho. despite the Roxy fight having 5 loses and only 2 wins to counter it (the 3rd went to Pikachu who didn't lose) it didn't hurt too badly, as they were mostly on Pokemon with a low number of battles and prolly could use the raised battle count over the raised win rate, ie Boldore had a 75% with 4 battles before that. I think that's all for now, other than it's odd that the battle count was so low despite having 2 tournaments, but guess a bunch of one on one fights aint gonna do much. Join me next time for... "Adventures in Unova and Beyond" ... what's up with the long name? but this is the one and only season of the anime that has episodes I have never seen, let's hope that's cause I was excited for XY and not cause I thought they were that bad X3

It's a little weird that only Cynthia gets voiceacted out of the main champion trio in this anime vid. If it was an issue of getting old voiceactors back on short notice, then technically isn't Lance the one who was used most recently in Generations? Is Cynthia's Japanese voiceactor just always lurking in the shadows ready to jump back into the fray? Or did Nintendo just aknowledge that she's the most popular champion lol. (Apparently she's either rank 1 or 2 in literally every country's fandom!)

Ian so happy that Barry made it in as one of the main friendsn of the female protag choice (and also that they included the female protag choice in promotional materials this time!) And it's awesome that Rosa was chosen as one of the primary important characters overall, and that cool tote bag with her saving Brendan atop a charizard was the first foreshadowing we got of the entire game. She is soooo underappreciated, I'm so happy she gets all this love! Gives me hope of other underloved charries maybe returning hmm hmm Charon hmm

More underloved characters returning: PORYGONS FIRST ANIME APPEARANCE IN FOREVER! I like how poryphone is in this game and rotophone is in the next upcoming main series one, that's a nice way to subtly link them and also.show how they're different. I wonder if it's like the android Vs apple brand wars?

Mysterious new characters? I think that's just meant to be Aroma Lady and Lass in a bit of a different design, cos they're Erika's usual gym assistants. But the aroma lady looks a lot like an older Green...?

"speed it up!" "Slow it down!" Lol the dialogue here is minimal but it does have its charming moments :3

Brock hugging Cheren's Snivy!!!! I didn't even think about cool interactions that could come from the Masters meeting each other's Pokémon!!! Imagine something like at the start of the journey big onix is all scared of lil Snivy and Snivy starts off playing into the scary persona cos it's proud of someone acknowledging its power. But along the journey they're able to become friends and get over their differences and get to this point where Snivy jumps in to defend someone ten times it's size and can trust it's friend's trainer to help it when it gets hurt.

Aaaa so much potential aaaa... I want everyone to be buddies...

Oh man I wish whenever I got a badge I also got the gym leader to join me on my journey... I really hope there's lots of good plot bonding with all the characters I want like a full fire emblem support system thing (but for intercontinuity friendships not marriages of course)

I like how the whole thing is framed with a monologue of Blue about how he's gonna win the world tourney and you arent. It'd be cool to have him as a rival again! Especially him in his less evil gen 2 version

Who are the mysterious domino mask guys? New evil team? They look coincidentally similar to my Team Jinx idea I had for a fan region when i was a teenager, so I'm happy!!

And then some more animated bad guys it seems?? IT REALLY LOOKS LIKE HUNTER J FROM THE ANIME AAA and she has cool fancy teammates now?? Maybe we'll learn more of her backstory? I like the guy with the face tattoos/oddly triangular scars?

It's neat that it's being developed with a new smartphone app company instead of niantic, I'm glad this new company is more open to having the actual Pokémon art style. DeNA looks neat and their president seems to be a nice and stylish guy!

Oooo new region Pasio! It's an artificial island created specifically to be a paradise of tournaments and sporting events, similar to how the Battle Area was in sinnoh. I wonder if this kind of thing is common around teh pokeworld and this is kinda just like the main one that started a franchise of smaller ones around the world? Is this Pokémon Disneyland???

Brief shot of the mysterious potentially Hunter J + team, apparently in fancy tuxedos? Do they run the league? Is that the plot that's gonna happen, it turns out this was her new evil plan to find the strongest trainers and sneakily steal their Pokémon?

Really hard to catch all the trainer's tho cos they overlap each other. There's Flint and it seems Cheryl the stat trainer but I couldnt catch any of the ones near the end where it starts fading out...

Also I just REALLY LOVE the Sync System where you actually get unique special moves from the trainer's you pick, rather than everything being entirely dependant on the Pokémon. They can apparently use heals and buffs as well as having their own unique animation for z moves!

Aaaaand lots more trainers going past super fast and I can't see a thing, lol

I'll set aside my dislike of anime gimmicks for a minute, bc, it's the anime. It's gotta have them to keep things fun (which they are! just not for me, which at the end of the day is fine bc i'm not the target audience lol): that out of the way, it's actually a pretty good battle so far. I know Cynthia has a strong lead, but I have a feeling Ash's Lucario will be the one to turn things around for them. I almost wonder if they're going to go down to the wire, a Mega Lucario V Mega Lucario route, instead of mega Garchomp.

As much as we know I want Cynthia to be the one who wins, I just. Know Ash will pull through. All the companion cameo's (minus who, Iris and Tracy?) still haven't happened, and that's gotta be being saved for his battle VS Leon

I'm curious to see if they'll explain further what Cynthia means by "retiring from battling". It seems like such a...weird. Thing for someone so young. I'm figuring she'll focus more on archaeology and whatnot, but like...if someone says "retire from battling" my mind translates that to, "I will literally never battle ever again not even once". Retire from the league? Sure. But to say a former champion will retire all together???

Yeah I have cause like I've been thinking abt Dawn and Cynthia in the next gen champs au cause like,, yeah y'know in my hcs, before Cynthia, Palmer was the Sinnoh Champion, and when Cynthia finally took that title from him, he didn't even give her any tips or anything, didn't tell her how grueling it truly was, didn't tell her how lonely it was, how isolating it was, how he didn't try to help her despite being able to do so, how it's going to fuck her up 

And Cynthia resented him for it 

So when she heard how Dawn and Barry wanted to be Champions as well, she made it her main goal to never let Dawn win. No, not Dawn. Dawn was a kind girl who doesn't deserve to be isolated from everyone else, to be placed upon a pedestal she didn't want, to be given the illusion of freedom of an open cage, only to fall face first to ground the moment she tries to fly 

No, Dawn doesn't deserve that, but Palmer's kid does. 

Oh, how Cynthia wanted to be petty for once, she's been kind and patient to everyone long enough that it costed her her own health, her own stability, Palmer's kid should go through the same thing, it's only fair, it's only right, oh the twisted irony of it, coming full circle, that she'll be giving the Champion title to the son of the man she loathed since she was young 

But Barry couldn't beat her. Even tho she wasn't trying too hard, he couldn't beat her. And so, it's Dawn's turn to try.

Now, as the new Champions are sharing their experiences with how they got their champion titles, Dawn realized just how much she truly fought Cynthia for that Champion title

Unlike the rest of her fellow champions, it took her literal months to beat Cynthia, it's almost as if Cynthia didn't want her to win

I definitely think that her future is bleak af, with most of the team dead or gone. I haven’t had a chance to rewatch, but I liked it! Cisco and Cynthia broke my heart, but Carlos acted his ass off. Marlize leaving Clifford was wonderful. Barry was annoying but in a cute way, and Iris did her best to keep him in check and coach the team. I even liked the Harry/Cecile stuff, it was really only Caitlin’s story that was displeasing. AND MY BABY DAWN RUNNING AWAY SO HER MOM WON’T CATCH HER!!!!!

They... cut another Westallen scene. Why even release the promo photo of it if it was no longer in the episode? 🙃

Maybe that’s why 4.21 released zero stills of Iris, rofl. That way her even being in the episode is a happy surprise.

I love how TF revealed MG is a speedster and has yellow/purple lightning when she runs but there’re still people who believe she’s Joe and Cecile’s kid or anyone else except Iris’s. I wonder why that is.🤔

Given the obvious lack luster excitement Grant's been feeling towards some of the season and all of the accusations made about AJK, do you think they got along? Do you think there was tension on set between them for whatever reason and caused the season to lean so Ralph-heavy?

I don’t, simply because AJK wasn’t on set with the cast. It’s possible Grant was feeling a little burned out at first and asked for a lighter load, which they took way too far, but I have absolutely no proof for that. All I can say is that Grant is gonna want more story next season, lol, and I hope he gets it.
