there's something about people drawing/headcanoning that susie would wear the dress in a suselle wedding/prom scenario that just rubs me the wrong way... i understand the popular appeal of putting the masc character in a dress and the fem character in a suit for aesthetic purposes or to shake up expectations and stuff- i've been known to indulge in that trope myself- but in this case it's just a little weird to me to put a canonically butch girl in a dress when she's exclusively shown in andro/outright masculine outfits throughout the game AND expresses discomfort at the prospect of feminine stuff like wearing a ribbon in her hair. it'd be fine for me if not for the ribbon thing implying she doesn't really like feminine stuff- although i think really, some characters, like susie, are just butch, and they wear suits for special occasions, and that's a beautiful thing, and we don't need to put every masc girl we see in a dress

Hey! It’s 🍉ANON! Hope y’all missed me!
Anyways, I was wondering if I could request again! Of course, if I’ve already requested something, don’t mind this one! Just put it to the side..Or whatever
I would like to request a Yandere!SAGAU + Teen!Reader
Basically, since it’s a (Platonic) Yandere, I think they would basically all coddle {Reader}
Like since they’re a God and all, they’re dressed in fancy attire- but the clothes are always to big on them or they’re made in soft colors, so the characters coo over how ‘tiny’ and ‘cute’ {Reader} is
And if any of them are designers, they make them cut outfits like poofy dresses or little suits and force them to wear it
Like {Reader} is like, “I’m a teen! And a GOD! I refuse to wear this!” But they still end up wearing it lol
And maybe the characters fighting for their attention and time, maybe becoming a little too aggressive towards each other.. Maybe even threatening others to stay away from {Reader}..
Or! Or, if they talk about their family before they were transported, the characters engrave that into their brains basically and try to act like their them, or get upset that they mention that and say how they’re their ‘new family’
Anyways, I’ll make this short so I’ll end it here! Also, you as a writer truly inspire me every time you take my requests! Maybe one day I’ll be brave enough to post my ideas on my own online.. Thank you!
Sincerely, 🍉ANON
🍉ANON Thank you for the compliment, and I'm looking forward to the day you grce Tumblr with your writing!
Yes, Reader is coddled to high heaven. The archons have had unoffical custody court over you. With some math done by Neuvillette, each archon/ region gets equal time with you. You're a young human and young god, so everyone thinks you need protection from everything. There are different types of coddling that you experience, all based on the type of platonic yandere the character is.
______________________________________________________________
Mom Types: these platonic yanderes will now act like your new mom. They are strict, caring, and will make sure you become well rounded if it's the last thing they do. While there is variety in the parenting styles among these yanderes, there is still a common thread between them.
(Jean, Eula, Xianyun, Ningguang, Raiden Ei, Kujo Sara, Kokomi, Faruzan, Dehya, Arlecchino, Clorinde, Chiori, Chevreuse)
______________________________________________________________
Dad types: These types will be the best dad they can. They're protective over you, ready, willing, and able to fight anyone for you. They pull double duty as best friend, and guardian. They're strict when you need to be, but sometimes you can flutter your eyelashes to make them bend to your will. Agian, there are different parenting styles between each yandere.
(Neuvillette, Wriothesley, Alhathiam, Gorou, Kazuha, Baizhu, Zhongli, Albedo, Diluc)
______________________________________________________________
Uncle Types: These are the characters who are too irresponsible to be dads. They are the ones that help you cause small scale mayhem, while also making sure you have fun. They'll teach you street smart things, and are more lenient platonic yanderes
(Kaeya, Venti, Itto, Heizou, Cyno, Tighnari, Kaveh)
______________________________________________________________
Aunt Types: These are the characters who are the gender bend version of the uncle types, with a more caring side.
(Navia, Emile, Candace, Nilou, Nahida, Shinobu, Yae Miko, Beidou, Yelan, Shenhe, Yanfei, Ganyu, Keqing, Mona, Lisa, Rosaira)
______________________________________________________________
Cousin Types: These are the characters who are cousin like in the way you two interact. There is not a sibling bond, but there is a ride or die bond. This platonic yandere will keep you out of trouble for a price, while helping cause problems.
(Amber, Noelle, Fiscal, Mika, Xiangling, Xinyan, Hu Tao, Yun Jin, Sayu, Kirara, Dori, Wanderer, Layla, Charlotte)
______________________________________________________________
Big Brother Types: These platonic yanderes are your big brothers now, no, there is no arguing with them about this. They well care for you, being soft and kind is their thing. But, they will keep a tight leash on you if you even thing of doing anything dumb or they see a threat to you.
(Lyney, Fremient, Sethos, Ayato, Thoma, Gaming, Xiao, Xingqiu, Chongyun, Childe, Razor, Bennett)
______________________________________________________________
Sibling Types: These platonic yanderes are like the big brother yanderes. Kind, soft, and willing to protect your and your innocence. When it comes to spending time with them, there is mire dress up than you'd probably like.
(Klee, Diana, Barbara, Qiqi, Yaoyao, Ayaka, Yoimiya, Collei, Lynette, Furina, Sigewinne)
______________________________________________________________
The mom and dad types dress you in fancy clothes, finding it cute how big they are on you. Whenever you try and argue about wearing the fancy clothes, the mom and dad types use their authority voices, the aunt and uncle types use bribery, and the sibling and cousin types uses a mix of puppy dog eyes and bribery.
They is a lot of rivalry. Different sets of sibling are at each other's throats, the cousin and sibling types are usually at odds. Some mom and dad types bicker while the aunt and uncle types compete with each other and the mom and dad types. It's a mess you're always caught up in, and it's is never fun.
If you mention anything good about your family back home, the respective type of platonic yandere will try and copy that behavior. If you mention anything bad, they'll avoid that behavior like the plague

It appears as if the user is selecting what to do with Mae's turn, hovering over the fight button. Mae's icon is light blue. In the text box below, there is text that reads "* CASEY awaits your first move." The text is shakey, and all white except for 'CASEY', which is blue with glitching text behind it. The fight setting is in a starry sky area, with the head of the Sky Cat watching Mae. On the left is Mae in a blue color pallette entirely except for her pupils, which are red. She is holding a baseball bat behind her with two hands. On the right is Casey, a shadowy cat figure whearing a long coat. He has glowing white eyes and facial features with a glowing blue outline.
The fourth section begins with red text that states "THINGS I WILL NOT DRAW:" with a lower opacity, larger 'NOT' behind the main text to create an echoey effect. Below this is a bulleted list in white text containing "NSFW, RACIST/BIGOTED THINGS, NFTS, (and) ANYTHING I DON'T WANT TO". Beneath this is a bit of text that says "SO, feel free to message me on either Tumblr or my Discord, @creepabotinc." with '@creepabotinc' in yellow text. /end id.]

How would the yanderes feel about a darling who's really attracted to them when they're in professional/work attire?
Darling who swoons and gets unconsciously more touchy when Atalanta's in her suit. Darling who blushes when they see Vivien in his apron/work gloves and Noelle in her pencil skirts.
Semi related, would Ata enjoy her darling putting on/taking off her coat/tie? Like housewife style, welcoming her home and giving her a kiss while hanging up her coat, as well as tying her tie and pulling on it gently to kiss her.
I don't know how you do it, but you always come up with great ideas.
I think the yans would be very pleased, especially Vivien. Vivien loves his job, but he's a little self-conscious about the fact that he only went to high school (although he did do A LOT of research on the side by himself) and now works doing a lot of manual labor. He doesn't want you to think he's stupid or a mindless golem whose only use is lifting bags of soil. He would be very glad that you think he's handsome and rugged, and he would try to wear them around more often, like when he's making things for his online store or just doing some normal gardening.
Atalanta and Noelle also like it. They love feeling pretty and desirable to their partners. Atalanta is more casual about it. She knows she's drop-dead gorgeous, the Montclair genes basically ensure it. But she is glad you think so. She will let you choose clothes for her, provided they are work appropriate. Otherwise, she will just sit around being hot and allowing you to drool over her. Noelle loves to let you watch her get dressed in the morning in the morning. She doesn't let you dress her, you know how independent she is, but she might intentionally dress herself a little sexier than normal. She might even incorporate her "uniform" into the bedroom as well. How would you like to be dominated by a strict professor or perhaps a wealthy lady or even just a normal strict Mistress? Not the Executive/Assistant roleplay though, that disturbs her a little due to her relationship with Atalanta.
I don't remember if I even mentioned she wears pencil skirts but I love how you just instinctually knew.
Atalanta would VERY MUCH like you to take care of her like that. It makes her feel somewhat marked as yours, like a form of domestic bliss. It also makes her feel important, like you're her perfect little wife getting her ready to go earn lots and lots of money to provide for and spoil you.

A mysterious letter has appeared!
“Hello friend! You've been invited to this year's Mask Festival! The event takes place at Kokochiyoi Village, the largest village in Kitakami! Come join us for food, games, fireworks, and of course-”
Oh? Halfway through the letter, the handwriting changes.
“Hello there!! It's me, Kenji! Aya really wanted me to invite some of her friends to the festival this year, so I thought I'd send you an official invitation! I also made you a couple masks with the help of a close family friend! If you're a feral or anthro, wearing them'll give you a gijinka form! Don't worry- you won't actually turn into one! It's just an illusion that only works on the villagers, so they won't freak out when they see you. If you'd like to bring a different mask but still want the illusion powers, just take the bells off the masks and onto your own!
Aya, me, and my husbands all hope to see you soon!”

NOZEL X YAMI HELP YES YES YES YES YES.
Yami Sukehiro wasn’t the type to get flustered. He had seen enough crazy stuff in his life as a Magic Knight to be fazed by very little. Demons, ancient curses, hostile invasions—none of that rattled him. But as he sat lazily in the captain’s quarters of the Black Bulls' hideout, smoking a cigarette, he had to admit to himself: the sight of Nozel Silva, of all people, standing at the entrance wearing that had him blinking in disbelief.
Nozel was, by all accounts, a serious man. Regal, refined, noble to his very core—though Yami preferred to just call him a stiff bastard most of the time. But today, something was… different.
The first thing Yami noticed was the skirt. It was simple, yes, but on someone like Nozel, it became more than just a piece of clothing. The fabric swished just over his knees, a deep midnight blue that complemented his usual Silver Eagle motif. Nozel stood there, arms crossed, as if daring anyone to say something, but Yami’s brain had short-circuited long before words could form.
"A skirt?" Yami thought, dragging deeply from his cigarette. Not just a skirt... a goddamn pretty skirt.
The next thing that hit him was the hoodie. Baggy, casual, completely unlike the stiff uniforms the Silva heir usually donned. And just as Nozel shifted to adjust the strap of his bag, the hoodie rode up—just enough to reveal a glimpse of a waist corset. It was subtle, barely noticeable, but Yami’s trained eyes didn’t miss a thing. And then, the final blow: his hair.
Nozel’s bangs were loose, framing his sharp face with an unexpected softness. It wasn’t all down—no, it was pulled back in a half-up style, held together by a black ribbon bow. Yami wasn’t sure if it was the ribbon or the softness in Nozel’s expression, but it was like staring at a completely different man. Softer. Lighter.
Yami’s throat went dry.
“...Fuck,” he muttered under his breath, the word dragged out so long it became a near-whispered exhale.
Noelle, standing nearby and beaming, had clearly been expecting the reaction. She seemed proud—of her brother, of his confidence, of something Yami couldn’t quite put his finger on.
"Captain, isn’t it great?" she piped up, her voice breaking the tension that had built up in Yami's chest. "Nebra and I helped him pick everything out. Nozel’s been a lot more comfortable lately, wearing what he likes. I think it suits him, don’t you?"
Yami could barely process what she was saying, because he was too busy looking at Nozel. It wasn’t like this was new. The people close to Nozel—the Silva siblings, his squad—knew about his... unique preferences when it came to clothing. Hell, Yami had heard it in passing, but seeing it? Seeing him all soft, skinny, and just... cute?
It did something to him.
Nozel, meanwhile, remained completely composed. His arms stayed crossed, his eyes sharp, though there was a subtle hint of a smirk tugging at his lips as if he knew the effect he was having. "Are you going to say something, or just keep staring, Yami?"
Yami blinked. The voice snapped him out of whatever daze he’d fallen into. "Hah?" He coughed, trying to reclaim his usual gruff demeanor, but it wasn’t working. “Yeah. Suits you,” he mumbled, flicking the ash from his cigarette into the tray, but avoiding eye contact. “Didn’t know you were into... skirts.”
Nozel’s eyes flickered with something—maybe amusement, maybe pride. “It’s comfortable,” he said simply. “Clothes are just clothes. Or does the idea of a nobleman in a skirt throw you off that much?”
Yami’s gaze finally met his. “Tch. It ain’t the skirt. You’re just…” He struggled to find the words. His eyes drifted over Nozel again, from the bow in his hair to the delicate fabric of the skirt. Fuck, he’s really cute like this, Yami’s brain reminded him unhelpfully.
Nozel raised an eyebrow. "I’m what?"
Yami exhaled slowly, taking another drag of his cigarette. “Nothing. You look fine. Good. Whatever.” He knew he was being awkward, but there was something about the way Nozel looked right now that had his usual smoothness caught in his throat. It wasn’t just that he was attractive—Nozel was always good-looking in that sharp, noble way—but like this? There was something so... approachable about him. So unexpectedly soft and relaxed. It was like someone had peeled back all the layers of armor and allowed a glimpse of the man underneath.
Nozel, sensing the awkwardness, tilted his head slightly. “I didn’t think you’d be the type to get flustered over something like this, Yami.”
Yami scowled, though there was no real heat behind it. “I ain’t flustered. Just... caught off guard.” He scratched the back of his head, trying to shake the feeling. “Look, you do you. Not like I care what you wear. Skirt, pants, nothing—”
That smirk tugged at Nozel’s lips again, sharper this time. “Nothing? Careful, Yami. That almost sounded like an invitation.”
Yami choked on his cigarette smoke, coughing violently as Noelle burst into laughter beside him. “Captain!” she squeaked between giggles. “I’ve never seen you so... off balance before!”
Nozel didn’t laugh, but the smug glint in his eyes said enough. He adjusted his hoodie, the bow in his hair bouncing lightly as he moved. “Relax, Yami. I’m not here to shake you up. I came to deliver a message, but it seems I’ve... had an unintended effect.”
Yami cleared his throat, trying to regain any semblance of control over the conversation. "Message? Right. What message?"
But as Nozel began to speak, delivering whatever important news had brought him to the Black Bulls’ base, Yami couldn’t help but let his mind wander, his eyes drifting back to the slender figure in front of him. Because in that moment, all he could think was how fucking unfair it was for someone like Nozel Silva to look so damn cute, and not expect Yami to be a little thrown.
“...Shit,” Yami muttered under his breath again, eyes still lingering.
This was going to be a long day.

husband and wifee
Aicer back when she was younger, i thought it would be neat if her and Noelle had the same robe strap colour thingo (I understand Noelle favourite colour is green hence why her strap colour, but i hc Acier favourite colour also being green, same go for the choice of wearing leg warmers)
Aicer’s fashion inspo reminds of an ice skater lol. but i wanted something elegant yet flexible, i wanted her to wear something that represented her youth hence the short dress, side bangs, messy ponytail. I didn’t want her outfit to ENTIRELY represent Noelle, so i added a lil bit of Nebra’s and Solid’s lavender and light pink colour palette to her outfit.
I want to explore other then adding feathers to the end of their dresses or suits. feathers to the the hem, sleeves.
Triton awfully looks like Nozel. in the future i need to make him look like less Nozel and more like Nebra and Solid!!! Originally I pitched him to be from the Seabed temple, but i strayed from the idea and forged he’s from Atlantis. He has gills, fibbers that once withered or magically or biologically had to rid of when Triton moved to the Clover Kingdom.

Chapter 10 – Hearts Longing Silently
Tumblr media

♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣♣
"Hey there, handsome. Missed me?"
Nozel just looked at her blankly, like always when she was flirty with him. Vanessa giggled. After all those meetings, he still didn't know how to handle her teasing flirts or how to take her compliments and she find that side of him wonderfully adorable.
They met again under Aciers willow in the parc, at the water lily pond. One of Vanessas favourite places to meet up with Nozel, alongside the café.
"Good evening, miss Eno- … Vanessa."
"We're making progress, I see. As much as I love how elegantly you call me miss Enoteca, it's so much nicer to hear you just say Vanessa," she laughed as she sit down right next to him. Maybe closer than she needed to, even for a friend. But Vanessa didn't care, she enjoyed Nozels company way too much. And she loved his subtle lavender scent.
Nozel blushed again, like every time. But instead of looking away, his eyes still rested on her. Which was unusual coming from him.
His glance was more intense on her, but not in a bad way. New, sure, which could made Vanessa uncertain. But so caring and something else she couldn't pinpoint. No one ever looked at her like that and coming from him, it was so welcoming.
What was that strange and new feeling? Was it really new?
Ignoring it, Vanessa asked in a laugh, "So, what's new, stud? Did you got the gift?"
"I did. Thank you, it is really a masterpiece."
"Oh, thanks for the compliment," Vanessa smiled. Now, she was blushing. Which was strange enough to be noted. Usually, she only blushed when she was drunk, which was pretty normal. But right now, she was sober.
It never happened before. Even when she was crushing on Yami or having those dates and flings a long time ago… Vanessa never blushed back then.
But with Nozel, she did. She had no idea what it could mean and wasn't sure she wanted to know why it was with him of all people. Or because she was afraid somehow of that specific truth? It wouldn't be the first time she would ignore something pretty unpleasant she didn't know how to handle.
Like the cage…
Or the memories of the cage…
Chasing away those unpleasant memories, Vanessa asked with a smile, "I hope the colour's fine. Just thought that you needed a little change in your clothing."
"I highly doubt that I would have been happy with a stronger shade of red, like scarlet or crimson. Burgundy is fine."
"Oh, even I wouldn't have been that bold. Besides, darker colour suit you so well. I already thought that at Finrals and Finesses wedding. Why don't wear darker colours more often? Is it a family thing? I tried so often to make Noelle more darker colours as well, but she flooded the whole hideout at every attempt."
"She did?"
"Yes. The only dark thing she's wearing is her Black Bull robe and she claimed that dark colours are unfitting of royalty or that it would make her look like an old lady and take her youth away. Your sister is very talented for ridiculous arguments when she's flustered or when she panics. You at least seem more open for darker clothing."
"I see… The traditional Silva clothes are always white, bright grey and silver, with pastel colours or cold shades like blue or purple as secondary colours."
"Oh, the kind of clothes you were every day?"
"Yes. Royalty has some kind of royal dress code. It was more strict before, each royal family were only allowed to wear their own colours."
"Geez, that sucks. Even peasants have more freedom with clothing than that."
"I guess it's true. The dress code became more flexible over time. Today, the Silvas, the Vermillions and the Kiras still have their traditional colours, most of our clothes are still more or less traditional. But we're not bonded to those colours anymore. The ancient dress code was too contradictory in the first place, which actually made it difficult to follow."
"How can it even be contradictory."
"It's difficult to explain. But in a simple example, Silvas had blue as secondary colour and Kiras had green. So far it was clear. But it never had been specified in which category teal and turquoise had to be put."
"Never? But aren't those just shades of both blue and green?"
"True, but back in old days, no royal wanted to wear the same colours as the other two royal houses. Especially the Kiras, of course. If a Silva dared back then to wear teal or turquoise as a secondary colour, house Kira would have made a state affair out of it."
"Geez, all that just for a so-called secondary colour. Couldn't the Kiras just let it go."
"Sadly no. As the reigning house, they always believed their decisions and choices to be the priority. And of course, it still didn't changed today."
Nozel said it with such a disgusted face, it was really adorable. Just like Noelle when she was upset or disgusted about something.
But the whole problems with the Kiras and such, that was something Vanessa had no idea about and to be honest, she didn't want to know more about it. She didn't need to, it wasn't her world, she had the Black Bulls and her job as a Magic Knight, she didn't need more.
But… It was Nozels world. He dealt with that every day and more than his siblings, since he was the head of house Silva. It probably wasn't easy to deal with.
Maybe she still should learn more about royalty? To help him, to make his burden not as heavy anymore? Vanessa had no idea if she was able to understand the complex of royalty and as such, if she could really be of any help for him. But she wanted to help Nozel, that was certain.
That thought just came so simply it surprised Vanessa. She cared about people, true, but this… it felt so different and deeper when it was about Nozel.
"Thank goodness that royal dress code became more flexible," Vanessa continued their conversation, holding her thoughts for herself. "Maybe I should have try a dark blue-green shade for your shoulder cape, but I didn't have any fabric in that colour."
"I'm sorry. Should I have taken more rolls of fabric?"
"Goodness, Nozel! No, you didn't need to. You already gave me so much with that new sewing box and all those fabrics! You were so thoughtful, it's one of the greatest gift I ever got, if not the greatest!"
"Really?"
"Yes."
Nozel blushed again slightly, but still didn't looked away. This intense glance again… Vanessa decided that it would be a crime to look away. She already knew that his eyes were gorgeous, but never had it been more obvious than right now, in this very moment. His eyes were purple just like hers, but a different shade. They had some silvery highlights depending on the light, making the purple more metallic. Which made sense, he had magic with a metal affinity.
He was handsome, that she couldn't deny. His profile was perfect in her books, an elegant jawline, soft traits but he still looked imposing. He wasn't buff, but not a bean pole either. When he crossed his arms and the fabric of his clothes went tight over them, she could his muscles who were mostly hidden under those layers of clothing. Fine, softly chiselled muscles, not obvious, but here still. Often, Vanessa wished she could see more of it, without all those layers.
Come to think of it, this was probably the first time she was truly and deeply attracted to someone. How ironic. Since Yami, she only wanted to be attracted to buff men like him, while most of the time, she really wasn't that much. And the first time it really happened to her, it was someone who wasn't buff, who's muscles weren't that present but still there and more… elegant, in a way.
It was fascinating. He was fascinating.
Vanessa just had been curious about him since their talk in Spade. But now, she was fascinated and she didn't if it was sudden or if it grew slowly step by step without she even realized it.
But… was it attraction?
Because even though Vanessa was unable to ignore how handsome Nozel was, her curiosity and now fascination was now pointed towards who Nozel Silva really was behind his cold mask. And the glimpses she got since they got to meet each other made her care for him even more.
Did she like him now? Or did she actually…
"That gift was very welcoming," Nozel said suddenly, looking away, interrupting Vanessas thoughts and breaking… whatever was between them right now. "I… had a difficult day. So, it was comforting to get it."
"You're welcome," Vanessa simply replied. She couldn't help but worry about him again. Nozel never often told if something was bothering him or making him worry, so Vanessa needed to push him sometimes a bit in order to make him spill the beans. If he was saying that he had a difficult day without any push, it must have been really hard for him.
"What… happened? If I may ask."
"Well… I got nobles trying to bother me. At the Silver Eagles headquarters, despite the common knowledge that I DON'T treat the affairs of nobles and house Silva together with affairs concerning my squad. They weren't that bold before Spade. And then, a problem with one of my knights."
"Lucinda Sandler, Linus Gem or Samuel Évantail?"
Nozel looked at her, completely stunned. Vanessa almost gasped in awe at this sight of his. He was almost cuter than Noelle when she was surprised.
"How… how do you…"
"Know that those are some of the knights you have the most problems with? Well, remember the first time we got to your mums favourite café? Just before we went, you were upset about Lucinda and Linus. As for Samuel, you even mentioned him to me directly, so…"
Actually, it was surprising that she remembered those three specific names exactly. Was she more interested about Nozel and his world than she imagined?
"So, which one of the three?"
"Samuel. Lucinda and Linus are never there to begin with. To make it short, Samuel had been on a mission with Rob, Alysanne and Grenadine."
Vanessa quickly made a mental note to herself. Alysanne? Didn't ring a bell, she certainly never met that Silver Eagle. Grenadine was the nice Silver Eagle rookie she met the day Nozel and her went together to the café for the first time. Rob also made a bell ring, wasn't he the one that lost to Luck during the Royal Knights Selection Exam? That was a while ago…
"While Rob, Alysanne and Grenadine did their duty and fulfilled the mission, Samuel went away for the whole time and only came back when everything was over. But for some reason, he believed that he deserved a star as well, just because he's from high nobility and from a very old, renown noble house. He refuse to see that without actions and doing his job, he has no chance to gain a star."
"What a prick. And he dared to complain about that? Geez, that audacity. You're his captain and by that, his superior. He should know better than demanding you something like that."
"He should. But he doesn't. Not to mention he insults everyone he considers less, like his bastard half-sister or even my vice-captain."
"What, really? Can't you kick him out."
"Sadly, it's not that easy, as much as I wish it was. The Silver Eagles is an old squad and a royal one at that. We have century old agreements with different noble houses, including the Évantails, to take one of their members as a knight. I could exchange him, but most Évantails are true jerks and lazy, not caring about the true meanings of being a knight. I would certainly exchange one useless knight for another if I go that road."
"That's a stupid agreement. It's like there for nobles to use your squad as a trash bin for family members they don't know what to do with."
Nozel chuckled a bit. "That's a very true description. Honestly, if Samuel continues with this horrible attitude, all I can do is to report to the Wizard King. He's very aware of the problems those century old agreements have for the squads. The Grey Deers, now Aqua Deers, have those too, but not as much as the Silver Eagles. But it takes a lot to change this kind of system, especially since nobles refuse to let go of agreements which arrange only them."
Vanessa pouted. Nobles, really. Why were most of them such jerks? It was really pissing her off. Especially since Nozel had to deal with them, as captain of the Silver Eagles and as head of house Silva. No wonder he worked a lot, in order to navigate his squad and his family. Not with always much success, but dealing with that for almost seventeen years… It had to take a lot of inner strength.
"But that wasn't the worst."
"Really? What could be more of a pain than jerky nobles?"
"I got a letter from my father."
"Oh…"
Vanessa knew instinctively that this should be more painful for him than dealing with standard noble jerks. While Nozel was always sad but also happy when talked about his mother, his father was completely a different story. He didn't say much about that man, but when he was, there wasn't any happiness in his eyes. It was easy to assume he didn't have any happy memories with his father.
From what Vanessa could tell, the father of the Silva siblings did married into royalty, was pretty absent for most of them and when he had been at home, he might have been rude, distant and even frustrated with his children.
It wasn't much, she'll admit. But since her talk with Nozel back in Spade, Vanessa learned that behind the appearances, the truth could be more complex and anything but simply black or white.
"Weren't he out of the country for years? At least, you told me that."
"He still is. I mean, he loves his diplomatic missions and he always took them as an excuse to not come back home. Among other reasons. He wasn't even there when my mother passed away or at the funeral."
"Excuse me, what? He wasn't at the funeral? But that was his wife! I mean… I suppose it was an arranged marriage, but still! It should have been… decent or polite or whatever, to show up at her funeral!"
Vanessa found herself flinch when she realized what this implied. It would mean that this man left his four children alone on one of the most difficult days in their lives, the funeral of their mother. No father to be there for them, just Nozel, a too young, grieving teenager who didn't even had his grimoire yet and was burdened with a task too big for his age, Nebra and Solid, two little children who must have been confused and sad and maybe didn't even understood what was going on, and Noelle, a little baby who had completely no idea she just lost her mother.
For a man she never met and hopefully never will, Vanessa felt so terribly angry towards the father of the Silva siblings. Not only because of Noelle, but also Nozel, who needed a father back then. Heck, she even felt angry for the sakes of Nebra and Solid.
"Like you said, it was an arranged marriage," Nozel replied, his voice terribly bitter. "For him, it was just a stepping stone towards his goal, whatever this might be. He never loved my mother. All this years of her trying to be there for him, to hopelessly love him and he just… didn't care, throwing in the mud what my mother gave him."
He was more talking to herself than to her, his eyes pointed at the pool with the water lilies, but his glance so far away. Nozel loved his mother dearly, he must have hurt him as well that she had been treated like this by her own husband.
What he just said, it reminded Vanessa of something. Didn't Nozel told her something similar in Spade? About a woman who had an arranged marriage, fell in love with her husband but who didn't loved her back…
Vanessa internally gasped when she realized that Nozel most certainly was talking about his mother back then! Had it been the first time he told anyone about his parents marriage? And he did told her that in an attempt to comfort her about her realization that she didn't love Yami, even though the situations weren't quite the same.
He told her about a topic that surely wasn't easy for him, in order to comfort her. Vanessa looked at him with a new glance, as if she just saw another crack in his cold mask, showing a new side of him, more vulnerable and still strong.
Nozel surely didn't appeared like it at first glance, but his heart was definitely at the right place. Maybe he just never got the occasion to show it.
In an attempt to comfort him, Vanessa placed her hand on his. It was a soft touch, but she still saw Nozel flinched. He still wasn't used to kindness towards him, wasn't he?
"Will… will your father come back to Clover?"
"No, thankfully not. This is the only good news I got with his letter. Except the fact that he subtly insulted me again, he… he wanted to have a word about… my potential future marriage."
Vanessa flinched again. Another thing she remembered from Spade and which she just couldn't forget. The fact that Nozel would not hesitate to sacrifice himself for an arranged marriage, so that his siblings would be free to choose their partners.
She didn't liked that thought back then, that for Noelles happiness, her older brothers happiness has to be the price.
Today, she disliked that thought even more. Of course she didn't knew everything, but at least Vanessa knew that Nozel went through a lot since he lost his mother and even with his past mistakes, she was convinced that he deserved happiness. His own happiness. He couldn't have that in an arranged marriage, even more if his jerk of a father wanted to meddle as well.
And… she personally wouldn't be able to bear it to see him married and sacrificed, living a marital hell. She wanted him to be happy and she wanted to be part of his happiness!
Did she… did she just thought that? That she wanted to be part of his happiness? Wouldn't that mean…
"You won't let your father decide on that."
"Never. He would marry me off for his own scheme and I refuse to be a chess piece in his game. This still should be my decision."
"It should be. But… I still hope that you won't be in an arranged marriage. Your siblings wouldn't be happy to know you're unhappy for their sakes. At least Noelle certainly wouldn't like it. Nebra probably too. And I… I wouldn't like it either."
He didn't answered. He just looked at her. Surprise, shock, somehow gratitude danced in his eyes, as if he couldn't handle those emotions very well. There was also something else in his mesmerizing purple orbs, something she couldn't name and somehow, that mysterious emotion relieved her.
Nozel opened his mouth, probably about to protest. But Vanessa didn't let him. She didn't want to hear that he didn't deserved kindness. Because he did. She just hoped one day he would realize it and be able to forgive himself. She surely did.
"I'm glad my gift helped you to feel better after a difficult day, especially with your father. It's just… all I ask right now is to not dwell on that letter and your other worries. Just for this moment. I… care about you, since we meet up and talk almost every day. Seeing you worried and unhappy worries me. Just like with the Black Bulls. So, as I do with them, I wanna make sure you're able to rest from your worries."
Nozel still had the same look in his eyes, but now he was blushing too. Vanessa giggled as he let her push him softly back, so that he was laying and resting on the grass.
"And don't you dare protest. No one can say no to a witch and live to tell the tale. Just ask my squadmates, especially your sister. Noelle has quite a few examples to share."
Nozel still looked at her, stunned and with that mysterious feeling in his eyes. Vanessa could almost hear the gears turning in his mind, trying to search for an objection. But of course he couldn't find one. Maybe he didn't want to find one.
He finally relaxed, lie down on the grass and closed his eyes. How peaceful he looked that way. So much more handsome than he already was.
"Thank you…"
"You're welcome, sugar."
Of course Nozel blushed again at the nickname. He blushed quite easily, just like his little sister. Must be a family thing. But unlike Noelle, Nozel just blushed slightly, nothing more than a pale pink on his cheeks. For him it was certainly a lot, but Vanessa wondered how much it would take to make him blush in a stronger way.
It was so calm right now, the evening sun shining on the pond and through the leaves of the willow, giving everything a subtle golden touch. The water lilies, the grass and him… She wished that it could be more often this way.
That Nozel could feel more often this way. It suited him so well to be without any worries for a while.
Vanessa smiled, as she looked at him. She still didn't know a lot about Nozel Silva yet, but so much more since their talk in Spade. The more she learned about him, the more she cared about him, the more she was longing to spend time with him and…
I love him…
It almost sounded so random, but not to Vanessa. Actually, it made perfectly sense, with everything that happened. Not only that, Vanessa just knew that it was true.
It was so different compared to the time she had a crush on Yami. This right here wasn't a crush, it was deeper, truer. She wasn't blinded by gratitude and admiration, she was well aware of Nozels flaws and cracks. And she embraced all of them.
Vanessa had feared that because of her past crush, she wouldn't be able to recognize if she would fall in love or not. She was able to see it for other people, but herself? She'd been a bit afraid to be dense.
But she wasn't. She fell truly in love for the first time and was able to recognize it. So simply even.
It was way better than everything she ever imagined before.
Still, a soft but sad smile appeared on her lips.
Because… what would happen now?
Vanessa had been convinced that she'll never care for her partner's status, rank and anything and that said partner wouldn't care either. But that had been at the time when Nozel wasn't part of her life yet. Just a presence far away in the background, as another squad captain and Noelles distant older brother, nothing else.
But he wasn't in the background anymore. Almost four months since Spade and in this period of time, he became such an important part of her life. She didn't even realized it, it just… happened.
With everything new she learned about him, with every moment they spent together, even their talk right now… Vanessa couldn't help but care more about status and duties and all those complex details she thought to never deal with in her life.
Nozel was captain of a royal squad, but also the head of house Silva. He was dealing with nobles who looked upon him like starving vultures, he needed to face the other royal house head who probably didn't respected him. He had to take care of Nebra, Solid and Noelle, helping securing their future within royalty. He had so many issues, was trying to make amends, especially with Noelle, was probably still grieving his mother and probably was harsher on himself than anyone.
And his reasons to agree to an arranged marriage wasn't even for his status or house Silva. It was for his siblings, for them to be free. Did Nozel even allowed himself to be in love, to love anyone romantically?
He probably thought he was unworthy of it.
Vanessa sighed. She wanted to help him, so much. But she had no idea how she could help for the bigger picture. Small relaxing moments like right now, that was easy to provide and Nozel couldn't protest long. But what about the more complex issues?
To be fair, the royal system was very intimidating. No wonder Vanessa ignored it in the past. But Nozel was part of it and he was now part of her life.
Vanessa sighed. She had no idea how royalty works as a whole, she doubted she would fit in. But Nozel…
She refused to let her fears be stronger than her love for him.
And yet, she still had no idea what to do next. And adding a more classical fear, Vanessa had no idea if Nozel would ever love her back.
Damn, since when was she so timid?
Vanessa looked down at Nozel, mesmerized by how peaceful he looked like this. Then, slowly, she lied down beside him on the grass, nearer to him than was probably proper for even for siblings.
Slowly, almost shy, she touched his hand. Nozel moved his, just as slowly, and taking hers in his. Even interwinding their fingers.
Vanessa turned her head towards him, but Nozel wasn't looking at her. His eyes were still closed, there was still a little blush on his cheeks. But he was slightly smiling, so soft that you needed to look closely to see it.
Now, Vanessa felt herself blushing. But still, she smiled as she hold his hands just a bit more tightly and closed her eyes.
She has no idea what the future had prepared, for him and for her. She still wasn't sure if Nozel would love romantically one day. But at least Vanessa knew that she meant something for him. If their time spent together wasn't enough proof, this simple hold of her hand surely told her so.
That wasn't what Vanessa imagined when she decided to put her love life onto a new path, but despite all that uncertainty, she was glad it went that way.
She just won't be bold on this topic and take it slow. She loved Nozel and since he was so much like a bird, she didn't want to take any risk and scare him away.
♣♣♣
"And I have to say that even though it was slightly unfair to kick me out of the Silver Eagles, I have to admit that living as Magic Knight was really not as wonderful as young people think it is. Even in a royal squad your title is respected and if you don't… work, ugh, you have no chance to actually stand out and climb the ranks. I regret that gaining ranks isn't based anymore on how long you're part of the squad and from which noble house you are. Now, you can only gain star to your work and your actions. All in the line of duty. Well, it seems that duty and work are overrated things and the glory of Magic Knights as well, don't you think, lady Charlotte?"
Said the ex-knight to the squad captain.
Charlotte fought the urge to roll her eyes and instead, replied as politely as she could, "You forgot that I'm a Magic Knight and even a captain, lord Aquarius."
"Ah, yes, of course, of course," her discussion partner replied, flicking his hand, clearly not caring about her point. "Which means that you're one of the only Magic Knights who doesn't have to work. Please, could you tell me which kind of relations you used to get that poste? After all, earning the captains place through work only sounds really ridiculous, don't you think? I mean, a foreigner and a legitimated bastard became squad captains, only because lord Julius took a liking to them."
Charlotte did her best to not spill her drink into lord Aquarius' face. He had no idea. Even though Yami and William were indeed Julius' proteges, but if they hadn't earned merits already as Grey Deers, none of them would have been become captain in the first place.
"You're not a Magic Knight anymore, lord Aquarius, so I doubt that this kind of knowledge would be of any use to you," she simply said instead, in the coldest way possible.
"Well, true. It would have been surely quite the privilege to have my own Magic Knight Squad, though."
And the kingdom should be grateful that you're not a squad captain, Charlotte thought, but of course, she still had enough policy and endurance to not tell those words out loud.
She sighed, wondering again what she was doing here. Except attending a soirée organized by her mother, her aunt Florence and her aunt Rosamund and trying to not flee this golden hell. The official reason for this was to strengthen the bonds within relatives and noble houses the Roseleis are mostly in terms with.
But the unofficial reason for this hell of a soirée was of course to find a potential future wife or husband for some Roseleis. Mostly her, of course. Charlotte wasn't stupid, as she noticed that a lot of her potential suitors had been invited. Heck, it was why she currently had to politely had to do small talk with lord Aquarius Seashell right now. Even lord Reginald Évantail was present, with all of his children. There were many Évantails present today. Of course.
Charlotte was at least relieved that Nozel and Fuegoleon declined the invitation. That whole situation would have been awkward to the three of them. The only royals invited were half a dozen Vermillions Charlotte didn't know and a bunch of Kiras. Or maybe also just members of secondary branches to the Kiras, it was never clear with this royal house.
There weren't many Silvas present. Of course not, there were only four Silvas left and no secondary branches. In fact, the only Silva present was Solid and he already fell asleep on a couch, next to two chattering old ladies. Charlotte pitied him, maybe she could wake him up later and allow him to leave early.
Charlotte had been a bit surprised that Nebra Silva didn't come, as she was the Silva who dealt the best with the nobles. But she probably also was in the radar of suitors who were desperate to marry into royalty and certainly wanted to avoid this. Charlotte couldn't blame Nebra for this. Hopefully, she found herself a far better occupation than a noble soirée.
"But as I said, lady Charlotte, I'm actually glad to not be a Magic Knight anymore. And a Silver Eagle. Lord Nozel has no real respect for nobles titles. And honesty, now I have more time to go the club and um, well, spend my money in a much better way."
"You mean, gamble and risk to lose more than you have on the gaming tables? Isn't that one of the reasons you search for a wife who happens to have a very large dowry?"
The words fell out of her mouth before Charlotte could even think straight. But honestly, she was on edge since the start of this soirée and was right now pushing past her limits. How long before she will actually lose it and leave this suffocating salon?
Lord Aquarius looked genuinely shocked by her words. Maybe because he didn't expected that anyone would actually be aware of that specific reason about his search for a wife.
Or maybe he was shocked because Charlotte Roselei, captain of the Blue Rose Squad, called by many the Beauty of the Clover kingdom and most renown party on the marital market would actually snap at him so coldly.
Well, in fact it was more a scolding, but within nobility, those two terms were pretty often considered as synonyms.
Another unwritten noble golden rule.
Charlotte nodded to lord Aquarius as a goodbye and left the stunned and stupid man where he was. She noticed that some young girls immediately went towards him with heart eyes. Well, lord Aquarius was quite handsome with his long lilac hair and dark red eyes. But that was honestly the only good thing about him.
Leaving that idiot with his admirers, Charlotte walked through the Roselei salon, with anywhere specific to go. She saw her father talking and laughing with a bunch of nobles his age, as if everything was perfectly fine.
Charlotte quickly clenched her fist as she saw her father having undeserved fun. As if he never cheated on her mother, as if he never got a poor girl from the Common Realm pregnant before leaving her without a word, as if he never denied help to that girl and his bastard son, chasing them away.
Did he forgot he had another child beside her? Was he even aware that his son was also a Magic Knight? And even a Black Bull… the very squad lord Fidel Roselei claimed that none of his blood would accept to become a member. What an irony, really.
Charlotte sighed. She was still dealing with that new knowledge. That Luck Voltia, the cheery berserker of the Black Bulls and by that, a knight of the man she was hopelessly in love with, was actually her long lost half-brother.
All this time, she wondered what his fate would have been, where he could be… And all this time, he had actually been more or less near to her.
Did Luck knew anything about who his father was? Did he even care? According to Yami, the answer to both questions was no, but since Luck was rather special within his mind, no one could be sure.
Yami had been such a good help and support while she was dealing with this news. Well, he was shocked himself and even blamed himself a bit for not connecting the dots.
I mean, it should have been obvious. Your eye colour is just the same as his and even the fricking blonde shade of your hair is similar. Heck, the two elves that possessed you back then were even bro and sis! The elves who took over Gauche and his lil' sister were also siblings, it makes fucking sense!
Except the cursing words, Charlotte definitely agreed with him. Yami also suggested that she should gave her some time before deciding what their next steps are going to be.
Honestly, Charlotte had absolutely no idea what to do now. Did she even have the right to barge into Lucks life like that, after their father did to him and his mother, and by that, what house Roselei practically did to them? Not to mention, Luck has a family with the Black Bulls and he was happy with them. Would he really need an older sister who only learned about him very recently, who was a complete stranger to him?
On the other hand… Yami told her that Luck also deserved to know. Which was true. Besides, it wasn't like she wanted to take Luck from the Black Bulls. Haven't Yami told her as well that her being Lucks sister by blood didn't meant less for the Bulls, but more Luck?
Charlotte sighed again. Yami hadn't teased her one bit since they went to visit Grace Voltias grave. It was unusual for him and while Charlotte suspected that it was also mostly due to the shock of the revelation, her inner feelings that something else was also bothering him.
She knew him now for ten years and now, after spending almost a month on their common investigation, she'd liked to think that she even got to know him more. It was a selfish thought, she knew. But she still liked to think that she came to know Yami a bit better.
What a situation, really. Not only Charlotte had no idea what do to next concerning her almost found little brother, but her love for Yami went deeper every passing day. Spending so much time together for their investigation had as consequences that she longed so terribly for him when they were apart.
That was so pathetic, they weren't even together yet and Yami still had absolutely no idea about how she truly felt for him. Each next step was blurry and if the longing wasn't enough already, she now even had… dreams about Yami. Very specific dreams, in ways she never did before who were unproper for a noble lady to even think about, especially when she wasn't married.
"Screw nobility," Charlotte mumbled, considering if she should get drunk for once or not.
"Captain Charlotte?"
She turned around and managed a smile as she recognized Églantine, one of her girls and one of the rare nice Évantails out there.
"Églantine, nice to see you. The first pleasant guest I meet this evening."
"Thanks, captain," Églantine replied with a giggle, playing with one corkscrew curl of her azure hair. "Actually, basically everyone who isn't either sick or on Magic Knight duty is here today. Which sucks, for once I would have liked to take a night shift."
"I'm sorry. If I knew, I would have arranged it that way."
"Don't be, captain, you couldn't know. Besides, I only learned about this soirée like since… one and a half hour? Something like that, certainly. My great-grandmother wanted our presence and well, no is never an option with her on this topics."
Églantine made a face and Charlotte also made one in return, although for different reasons. Lady Bianca, the head of house Évantail, also happened to be Églantines great-grandmother and she was still more energic than many young people out there. Not to mention that the family tree of the Évantails was thanks to that also a pretty mess.
"So, I might have overheard lady Rosamund talk to one of my aunts just a minute ago. Or cousins, whatever. Is it true that my great-uncle Reginald is trying to court you and make you his sixth wife?"
Charlotte nodded. She would have preferred if her knights wouldn't hear about her family trying to find a match for her, but the one thing nobility and the Blue Roses had in common were the fast gossip.
"Yes, sadly. And for some strange reason, aunt Rosamund seems very determined to make this marriage a reality."
"Don't accept, captain Charlotte!"
"I won't, don't worry."
"I don't worry about that, you're not that easy to manipulate. It's just," Églantine cut herself, looking around which made her azure ringlets dance around her, before whispering, "what about the captain of the Black Bulls?"
Ah, yes, the never ending project of the Blue Rose knights, even after Spade. Charlotte couldn't help but smile. As flustered it made her, it was so nice to have the support of her girls concerning Yami.
"That is one of the reason I don't want to be wed off, you know. But… we're still not together and I don't know if he ever realized what I feel for him."
"Well, Puli said that he is on the stupid and dense side. But don't worry, captain Yami has a good heart, one day he will realize and I'm sure he would never allow that anyone marries you off against your will."
Charlotte just nodded. It was true that Yami would not let her get trapped into an arranged marriage. But… ah, why did her love for him made everything look simple and complex at the same time?
"I'm actually glad that I met you, captain Charlotte. You're far better company than my older brother. He couldn't stop but complaining about a star he neither got nor deserved and that was really getting on my nerves."
"Oh, which brother?"
"Samuel, the one who's with the Silver Eagles. Well, he had a mission lately and of course, he disappeared until everything was over, but he's still upset that he didn't got a star like the other knight who were on that mission. Even worse for him, our half-sister Grenadine got a star."
"My goodness, you brother has quite the audacity," Charlotte said in a sigh. "And you, are you happy for Grenadine?"
"Yes, because from what I heard, she deserved it. Gosh, I wish I could already use fan magic like she does. My family of course doesn't allow it, but I hope to soon be on better terms with my sister."
"Which won't happen, Églantine. You shouldn't wish to get along with the shame of our house."
Both Blue Roses turned around to the newcomer. Prudence Évantail, one of Églantines many relatives and the second daughter of lord Reginald, also known as one of Charlottes unwanted suitors. So, if Rosamund would succeed, Prudence would be Charlottes stepdaughter, despite the two of them being around the same age.
Prudence was a true beauty with her long, straight pale pink hair and the typical turquoise coloured eyes of the Évantails. But that was honestly the only positive thing Charlotte knew about her.
"You and your little brother Candid are really naïve," Prudence continued, taking Églantines arm slowly but still firmly. "Grenadine shouldn't be considered as your sister. After all, she is just a bastard. It was wrong of lord Nozel to make a Silver Eagle out of her. We Évantails are standing strong and we don't get desperate about scandals. Unlike some other… noble families."
The last words were subtly pointed towards Charlotte, that much was clear. But even though she had no idea what Prudence was exactly implying, Charlotte had no intention to be intimidated.
"Those are some high words from you, lady Prudence. You shouldn't underestimate Grenadine. She might be a bastard, but I'm certain that won't stop her to be a great asset for the Silver Eagles and the Magic Knights in general."
"Oh, lady Charlotte, we all know the Magic Knights aren't as trustworthy as- Ouch!"
"You're not very prudent, Prudence."
Églantine just punched her distant cousin with the elbow and was now looking at her in a way that should have killed Prudence, if glares could kill.
The pink haired Évantail tried to search for a venomous reply, but still decided against, before turning towards Charlotte, "Friendly advice, don't try to hide your families scandals."
"Lady Prudence, if you think that I excuse every mistake the members of my house are doing, then you're not as smart as you think you are."
Prudence blinked, but was still clever enough to not reply. She just went away and pulled Églantine with her, who gave her captain a sorry smile.
Charlotte took a deep breath, before putting her still full glass on a small table and left the salon.
She clearly had enough of this nonsense. Dealing with those unwanted suitors was the last thing she wanted. What she wished was to think calmly about what she could do with Luck, how she could be a good sister to him if possible and… well, the thing she wanted the most was to be with Yami, to stop being so uncertain with him, to be in his strong arms and… to finally live everything that made romantic love the way it was.
That wasn't for soon, she perfectly knew that and the only one she had to blame for her impatience was herself. If only she had told Yami what she felt all those years ago.
But maybe she could still call him and talk? Hearing his voice, even Yami would be teasing, even if he was getting on her nerves again, this seemed so much better than nothing for Charlotte.
But just as she started climbing the stairs to get to her room, she heard her mother calling her.
"Charlotte my dear, where are you going? The Soirée is not over yet."
"For me, it is," Charlotte replied, not hiding anymore that she was exhausted and done with all of this nonsense.
"Oh, sweetie, I know it's difficult, but you have to consider-"
"No, mother, I won't consider any potential suitors. I don't want to get wed off, I don't want to be the victim to an arranged marriage. It's just… I can't do this, okay? I… want to marry out of love, that's the only reason for me to consider a wedding. I don't care even if it's with someone out of my circle! I know that you at least still consider my happiness, but what about the other Roseleis? What about father, what about aunt Rosamund, what about all the other Roseleis? You and I both know that they don't want my happiness, but reaching whatever their goals are. I am not a chess piece, mother! I'm a Magic Knight, a squad captain and I overcome many threats and danger along with others. Marrying someone I don't love, to fulfil the ambition of someone else entirely… that's not me. It will never be me. And I think you understand that already."
Charlotte looked back at her mother, actually awaiting to get scolded, to have her mother's anger fall upon her.
Which didn't happened.
Lady Orchidea just looked at her daughter, shocked, somehow hurt and sad, but… was there also some understanding in her green eyes?
Charlotte sighed deeply, before she said exhausted, "I love you very much, mother. You're probably one of the rare ones in our family for whom I truly care for. But what you do, trying to marry me against my will… it hurts. It hurts because I love you. I respect your choices and wishes, but please, don't marry me of. Also don't fight me if I fall in love with someone who could be considered unworthy for a Roselei."
That last sentence wasn't probably needed, but Charlotte still had the urge to say it out loud. She still stood still a few seconds, hoping her mother would say something.
But Orchidea remained quiet, frozen. As if that declaration was too much for her to handle.
"Sorry to hurt you," Charlotte whispered, before turning away and run towards her bedroom. She didn't know if her mother heard her apology, but she didn't care. It was just too much emotion right now to handle.
She needed Yami right now. To call him. Oh, Charlotte wanted more from him, more with him, by him. But that wasn't possible, since all of the things she wanted were only possible in a relationship and they weren't a couple. For now.
But calling him, that was something she would have immediately. Her beloved knight of darkness, hearing his deep, rough voice…
Charlotte reached for her communication device and immediately called him.
"Who dares to call me while I'm taking a shi-"
"Yami? It's me."
"Prickly Queen? Gosh, you sound ugly. Something happened at that stickass party?
"Well, it was too much for me to handle and as you know, I had other things in mind."
"D'you wanna talk about Luck."
"Eventually, but not yet. I'm exhausted and not calm enough for that. I just… would you please just talk to me? About anything."
"As you wish, Prickly Queen."
For the first time today, Charlotte had a genuine smile on her lips.

Noelle explains Fnaf Lore to Kris and Susie.
(Inspiration and full infodump text for those who are curious under the cut.)
and, you see, that's what makes the ending of the 7th game so interesting, it draws a parallel between Golden Freddy and Springtrap that has been a consistant theme since Fnaf 3, Springtrap and Golden Freddy, or William Afton and Cassidy, are not that dissimilar from each-other. The later games would even reveal that Cassidy was William's own DAUGHTER. That's why Scott decided to make the killer wear a golden suit in the first place. That's why the darkened form of Golden Freddy seemed to mimic William's actions, luring the other animatronics to the safe room. Even after she got her revenge, Cassidy, just like William, was too stubborn and prideful to let go. But after Happiest day, where she finally learned to let people in thanks to the efforts of Charlie and Michael, she's ready to let her story end. Something that UCN expands upon by putting her in a situation that's practically BEGGING her to fall back into her old habits, to join The One in tormenting William, but she doesn't, instead she fades into the darkness, mirroring the first animated scene in which we ever saw Springtrap, but portraying the opposite scenario. A restless spirit that after all these decades is finally letting go, and moving on. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME MORE ABOUT BRIAN ANAND I HAVE READ YOUR FIC LIKE TWENTY TIMES TODAY AND SCORGED THE INTERNET FOR ANY CRUMBS II COULD FIND 😭😭
Brian Anand, neé Lei, is the transmasc-ing of Noelle. (And, particularly, my own personal version of it where he goes on to marry Akarsha and take her last name - Anand.) To quote my dear twitter moot Juno, "brian lei is noelle’s trans boy form, he has a terrible mustache and a terrible haircut and he’s heartbreakingly straight and min is his gender guru"
It wasn't originally my idea - that should go to @nofrndofmine, I think, if anyone - but it's one of my favorites of my collection of Gender headcanons for the soup characters. Particularly because it makes his relationship with Min so much more interesting (not that it wasn't already very interesting to begin with).
With Brian, you get to have this very strange inversion point where, before, during, or after Brian's egg cracks (i.e. he realizes he is trans) Min begins to realize that Brian also has Gender, and perhaps is envious of her, and that's why he hates her so much.
And perhaps when Brian does realize he is trans, all that hatred flows away like so much dust in the wind and becomes simple envy. And perhaps Min helps him, because what else is she supposed to do? Not?
One of the favored scenes for this is Min cutting Brian's hair, mirroring the scene in Butterfly Soup 1 where we see Min cut her own hair short. Implicit in this action - beyond the simple caring and touch that comes with it - is Min saying, "I had to do this alone. But you don't have to. I will make sure you don't have to."
Of course, there's also another set of interesting interactions with Akarsha which depend on what level of ppkm they're at when Brian Realizes. It's similar to the permutations I discussed about my "what if akarsha was transfem and also ppkm" posts a little while ago, but with a twist - Akarsha is bi, and openly so. (There's a funny little moment to imagine of egg!Brian learning Akarsha is bi after already having fallen for her a bit and going "huh. that information is important to me, but I will not interrogate why.")
Still, you can have a lot of Moments there between them. Supportive, mostly, I think, but it depends on what sort of a story you want to write! I can certainly see Brian trying to force them apart as he is coming out/transitioning due to internalized transphobia, or isolating himself from his friends because he doesn't want to come out to them and risk not being accepted for who he is.
The last particular relationship of note is, of course, with Liz (being trans as she is). She won't have quite as much perspective on Brian's experience, having gone in the other direction, but on the other hand she might have some different and helpful viewpoints as another binary trans person (assuming of course you are happy with Brian being binary transmasc, rather than some other flavor of Gender.)
The scene that comes to mind for me is one where Brian learns Liz is trans and then says/thinks something along the lines of "that's POSSIBLE?!"
Or perhaps he has to have Being Trans explained to him, and is like "so uhhhhhh. can you um. go in the other direction? Hypothetically, I mean."
Liz of course is like, "yes, of course!" (and internally is like "A NEW HAND TOUCHES THE BEACON") and Brian is just like "....huh." and either Represses That Knowledge and/or has a gender crisis about it.
There is, of course, also a great deal to consider about Brain Lei himself. HRT, various surgeries, etc. But also - how does he dress? Act? How open is he? What's his journey like? (And more mundane things besides.)
I, personally, can't decide if he becomes Some Dude In A Business Suit (with Fun Socks but an extremely boring outfit otherwise), or if he dresses aggressively retro and fights his manager about the specifics of the dress code. ("Yes it says I have to wear a suit, but does it say anywhere that it can't be double-breasted? Does is specify the cut of the jacket? I thought not.") Either way I think he wears one of those "subtle trans pride pins" on his lapel.
Damn, this got long. Anyway, for "more" you might have more luck with "Brian Lei" rather than "Brian Anand", particularly on @noelleIei and @nofrndofmine on twitter (thought there's not much, as I think a lot of the conversations happened on private twitters or in groupchats. I may talk or write about him more at some point, but my brain tends to bounce around a great deal. (Blame my ADD.)
(Sorry for @-ing you Nico.)

👏🏻F👏🏻A👏🏻C👏🏻T👏🏻S👏🏻
I see so many people shit on old wlw ships (ESPECIALLY korrasami, god, what do people have against them) not understanding not only the context in which they were created, but also the impact they had on the industry.
I've seen a bunch of kids from the TOW fandom critizing ships like korrasami, catradora etc because of their "queerbaiting energy" (??) and how superior lumity was, because they didn't kiss at the end of the show and actually dated for two seasons. And I'm like?? How ungrateful can you be?
Do they have any idea what those writers had to get through to include them in their works? Do they have any idea their precious lumity was only possible thanks to the legacy they left behind?
Korrasami only held hands in the end in 2014 after the writers fought through their teeth to get there, so Rebecca Sugar could include Garnets wedding in Steven Universe and make Ruby wear a dress and Sapphire wear a suit as a big screw you to homophobic countries who censored the relationship by making Ruby a guy, and even then her show was cut short because of that.
Because of that, Marceline and Princess Bubblegum could finally kiss on screen, but only in a hidden spin off of the main show. Then Catradora took that legacy and was able to make their kiss the most important part of the plot, but only at the last moment because if Noelle would have told the producers before they would have cut the show short.
And when we finally saw a full on wlw relationship with Lumity, Disney even then cut the show early.
WE. ARE. STILL. FIGHTING.
There is no ship better than the others in terms of representation because they all took a step further into normalising queer relationships.
Stop spitting on the ground our predecessor built for us so we could thrive as we are thriving now.
In all seriousness though---
Korra got a ton---and I mean a TON---of hate, for daring to be a headstrong, non-genderconforming woman of color. So forgive me if I don't react well to "korrasami doesn't deserve it"
Korra already fought through enough misogyny and racism while it was actively airing. She already got enough criticism for not being the "target audience" of 8-12 age males who buy action figures. She already got enough criticism for having flaws as a woman, for not "acting ladylike". She already got enough criticism for not being white or white passing in a show that has ZERO white characters. So when you come at korrasami fans with "they don't deserve it"? Don't be surprised when korrasami fans look at it with a lens of suspicion, because korrasami already fought through the criticism, already fought through being stuck in the "dead slot" air time in nickelodeon (which they were moved to in season three, when the show runners actively started hinting at a wlw ship), already fought through being pulled off air and onto online viewing only, in 2014, for those of you who are a bit young. (Obergefell vs Hodges, the Supreme Court case which legalized gay marriage nationwide in the US, happen on June 26, 2016). "They only held hands in the finale" because that's all they could get away with at the time. They were the FIRST. Bubbeline came later. Rupphire came later. Catradora came later. There are still no notable mlm ships in children's media, so the work ISN'T done. Korrasami fans "screech and yell" at you for not understanding because you accuse them of "queerbaiting" without understanding that they were the FIRST in their time to OPENLY hint at being gay on a a children's television network. In a time, for most intents and purposes in the US, being gay was still ILLEGAL.
And by the way? The Owl House, a recent, animatec children's show on Disney, was recently canceled for not being "the Disney brand". It features a bisexual woman of color (in an EXPLICITLY wlw relationship) as the main character, not unsimilar to Korra. Misogyny is not dead. Homophobia is not dead. Know your history, and know the work isn't done.

Tamaki : Damn it! Damn it! Stupid Ohkubo! Stupid Japan! Why did I become a laughing stock at the moment for sexy horny teens! F**k! This bullsh** doesn't make any sense!
*drinks wine*
Tamaki : How do you like that Mr. No list? (Looks into the mirror to show herself naked and only wears a pink apron) Although, it blushes that I always look into this for a Pervy writer. I just don't what gone into making me a laughing stock. I wasn't treated like this. Stupid Shinra Kusakabe.
*Door Opens*
Tamaki : Thank god. Someone needed my help for getting my clothes back on. I hope this might works. Shinra, about that incident, I--
Noelle : ...Eh?
Tamaki : Oh goodness it's only you. Look I was stripped bare skin and I wore an apron only to making boys horny. I don't know why I got into mess. Could you mind helping me out with the meal that I am preparing? You could look at the stuff around the place if you want to, but it's fine that made you it to see me in this uniform I'm wearing, Shinra accidentally stripping my clothes and had to make me wear this.
Noelle : *starts shaking*
Tamaki : Hey, buddy. You okay?
Noelle : You're...You're not wearing any clothes. I-I-I can see you not wearing any clothes and only wear that in public! [Starts turning red and steams out]
Tamaki : Hey, I wasn't developed like this, you know. We maybe a different person, but we're just two twintail girls being tsundere to the boys. Is there problem and...you're starting to turn red.
Noelle : Oh no! Not again! This is going to...oh no, this is going to hurt! Here it comes!
Tamaki : I knew this would gonna happen. (Opens umbrella to shield hersf)
YAAAAAHHHH!!!
*BLOOD GUSH!*
"later..."
Noelle : Sorry about that. I didn't know you were in that apron and I'm very sorry about the mess back there.
Tamaki : That's okay, you spilled blood from nosebleed tho and you made a mess. Now I know what a housewife feels
(Noelle is now shown naked and only wears the same apron as Tamaki, cleaning the mess from Noelle's nosebleed)
Noelle : Oh tell me about it. I know what being a housemaid is and we don't what I feel like being a maid or something to clean this up. As long I have we each other, we should get well respected.
Tamaki : Agree. At least we could be rival or frenemies if we known what I mean.
Noelle : That's your big of a deal.
Asta : Hey, guys. How are things going on--*MGS SFX : EXCLAMATION MARK*
Noelle : A...Asta!
Tamaki : Kusakabe-Kun! Don't look!
Noelle : This isn't what it looks like!
Asta : That's okay, cause we can look. Cause we ain't bleeding our noses!
Shinra : This looks very good to get a good look on ya!
Noelle : You mean it? [Blushes] Well, it does kinda suits me well. Although, wearing something like this doesn't mean I'm into adultery or anything.
Tamaki : Y-Yeah, it feels so...kinda weird that it makes me embarrassed that everyone is such a perv, so I guess that anyone could look at what we're wearing to the public eye. So no harmed feelings, right, guys.
Asta : Oh Yes. We won't. You know this whole apron thing is a marvelous idea to get into adultery. This is why I love about hentai jokes. What do you think about our girls wearing an Apron by being bare skin, Mimosa?
Mimosa : (starts shaking and begins turns red)
Asta : Uhh, Mimosa? You alright there, bud?
Noelle : Oh crap! She's gonna blow the hell up!
Tamaki : Not good! Not Good!
Asta : Duck and cover, run for shelter!
(Everyone runs off)
Mimosa : I'm going to...I'm going to...Ah, Ah, YAAAAA-HAAAAAAA!!!
*DBZ SFX : LOUD EXPLOSION*
Asta : And now you're wondering why did you do that to everyone. That's why there's a lot of porn stuff that's happening to us all the time.
Tamaki : Wait, what?
Asta : Yep. I think it's about that.
Tamaki : Aww, nuts!
Noelle : This is the reason that I haven't been to regular college. I'm still not getting paid for this sh**. So how does wearing an Apron only without the clothes that we wear?
Asta : I'd say that it's an option.
Noelle : Aw, crap!

weird kind-of-kind-of-not sagau fic idea that i might make myself LOL
isekaied reader/guide introduces them to Among Us. Specifically to the Mondstat Vision Holders. Everyone goes fUCKING FERAL for the duration of the game-- maybe even AFTER the game AHAHAHA
and like-- god im just imagining this specific scenario where you recreate the amongus maps in ur teapot so you guys could play irl and albedo or tubby develops a teapot leisure device specifically for it so you guys could ACTUALLY FOR REAL PLAY AMONG US IRL IN THE TEAPOT
everyones wearing the suits and they got the tablets with the report button and emergency meeting buttons and everything, and albedo figures out how to stream it to the rest of Teyvat-- with everyones different povs and things and everyones just rooting for everyone and ISERHLgFSLERHJkG
okay wow-- i got sO OFF WHAT I ORIGINALLY WANTED TO SAY AHAHAH but hey at least i set some ground rules first AHAHA
but yeah. so, imagine this--
this game of among us is composed of the knights and also Venti. So thats Diluc, Kaeya, Jean, Amber, Lisa, Albedo, Sucrose, Eula, Noelle, and of course Venti. The map here in this scenario is irrelevant but, I do have to say that the "additional roles" of Scientist, Engineer, Shapeshifter, and Guardian Angel have also been added and are all implemented into this game.
the first round? rotation? whatever you call it is actually pretty eventful with Albedo, Noelle and Venti already dead. Its actually really alarming since even if its just a game, Albedo actually takes this game REALLY SERIOUSLY and shows off his skill as the captain of the investigation team. hes the actually legit detective player-- one of his greatest plays actually being how he immediately figured out who the imps are bEFORE the game even started and bEFORE ANYONE DIED. The imps that game were very annoyed (playful) to say the least.
Noelle getting got is also like-- really serious since, as everyone knows, shes very helpful. a little too helpful. when she fully trusts someone, she will do everything she can to keep them alive and safe. and if that someone is sus abt someone, she is determined to help them figure out whether or not that person is an impostor or not. ultimate crewmate basically. one of her more "scary" plays is when she unwittingly became third impostor and LITERALLY BROUGHT EVERYONE TO THEIR DEATHS. THATS HOW HELPFUL SHE IS. god she felt SO BAD afterwards but it was a good name nonetheless.
The imps killing Venti off early meant that they werent playing around anymore, because that man has the GREATEST SOUL READ OUT OF EVERYONE. helps that hes also god but we dont talk abt that and also he cant use his archon powers to cheat LOLLL. One of his most memorable moments is how before they even started the game, he cORRECTLY PREDICTED WHO THE IMPS WOULD BE THAT ROUND. when the imps received their roles, they were definitely a bit more than shocked. in that same game, he just voted the two imps to break the tie for shit and giggles. and thats how they won the game. crack energy was strong in that one LOL.
The fear and distrust is rampant the whole discussion time, with Amber and Sucrose lowkey and highkey respectively panicking, Eula making hasty assumptions, Lisa challenging those assumptions, Diluc and Kaeya at each others throats, and Jean trying and failing to get things under control. They did nOT get anywhere during that and all begrudgingly voted to skip despite being at everyones throats. everyones suspecting everyone and the only people there who are FOR SURE innocents are Amber or Sucrose.
this is because, while they both may be lousy at being imps, they still act mostly the same both as imps and crews-- aka trying their best to be helpful and win. they're both usually kinda bad at lying. not that theyre bad, its just that theyre not good and you can usually tell if theyre truthing or not by the amount of information they provide and how eager and confident they are abt it. using that knowledge, they all simultaneously agree to shadow those two everywhere since they can tell that yes, they are crewmates, yes amber did watch sucrose fumble the id card 15 times because she keeps dropping it or doing it too fast or slow, yes sucrose did the vials first before walking around the map a bit to find her next task.
so thats what happens-- they split up into group amber and sucrose and go on opposite sides of the map. and then the sabotage happens. the lights die. the amber group, consisting of, of course, amber, jean and diluc, is closer and they rush to lights where team sucrose hadnt reached yet. they all pile up into a group and pull up the lights interface. and as they set it down, theyre immediately greeted by eula reporting a dead body and amber screaming.
after jean manages to get everyone down to a respectable volume, she asks for everyone to give their testimony since she had the interface up. amber nervously says that since there were so many people at lights already, she decided to not fix it but instead watch out for any impostors that might make a move. but when she saw the blood splatter, she couldnt see who did it clearly since they were at the edge of her visibility which is when she immediately rushed forward and spammed the report button.
eula backs her up and them immediately accuses lisa of killing sucrose, off the bar that the second the lights went off she had lagged behind. lisa is greatly offended, talking about how shes targeting her since the first round with no solid basis and eula strikes back with her saying something that lisa did in the first round that made her look sus. and then diluc and kaeya start rilling it up by backing the side that they were with the most, diluc backing lisa and kaeya backing eula even if they only saw the other in passing. it gets real petty REAL fast. literally the only reason diluc is backing lisa is because while jean is trying her best to be fair, she obviously favors lisa a bit more while kaeya siding with eula is more reasonable because they actually spent time together.
it ends with amber tying the votes since despite trusting jeans judgement, all eula had done was back her up and let her voice be heard in the two times theyve had discussions and proven herself to be innocent-- lisa got voted out by kaeya and eula and amber, and eula got voted out by jean and diluc and lisa. the second their screens fade back to the table they all realize that theres gonna be no rounds left since they havent figured out who one of the imps are and theres only six of them left. all it takes is for them to kill two and its over.
they all decide to separate and spread themselves as far as they can throughout the ship to get their tasks done as fast as they can. and as amber and jean start to walk out of medbay and are greeted by kaeya and diluc suddenly appearing in the back of the room, they know that the brothers have won.
everyone is screaming when the impostor win screen pops up, featuring diluc and kaeyas beans. literally NOONE expected them to win, considering the fact that they have been at each others throats the whole time both ingame and irl. fucking NOONE expected them to just-- quietly team up to MASSACRE the entire ship. because really-- who WOULD expect it??
their entire among us game history is just them bickering with each other, it gets like-- really kind of emotional and concerning sometimes-- theyve gotten banned from playing multiple times since the whole "being an impostor" thing has very similar connotations with being a spy from another country and we aLL KNOW HOW THAT WENTTTT
the synergy between the two-- ugh--
eula is just mad she accidentally became the third impostor. AGAIN.
oh yeah, kaeya was the shapeshifter. the first kill in the first round was a double kill with venti and noelle. diluc vented out of the scene but popped up in a room where albedo was but his cooldown was still going so he just did his best to try and herd him away from the button and hope that he runs into kaeya. and fortunately kaeya does run into them, and a bit of hope blooms in albedos heart which was then promptly crushed by kaeya murdering his ass. he then watches as he turns into venti and they both leave the scene. from the second he knew they were working together, he knew they were screwed. but he does respect using the quiet expectation that they would never get along to their advantage.
the bickering did have some actual heat behind it though since diluc obviously almost fucked them in the ass when he vented infront of bedo AHAHA

Good morning Lyra! I've just noticed that your fall event has no Magna and I cannot allow for this to stand! My OC would kick my butt if I did not request for her beloved, so here I am... 😆
Can I please request “When I First Saw You” and “Wish” for Magna x female reader please? 🥰😘
Tumblr media
Donna Good morning 😁! Hehe yeah I don’t get very many Magna writing requests (i get mostly HC ones) but I have this request and one other one so Magna simps will have some food hehe 🥰! Of course I hope you enjoy this!
Word Count: 787
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Magna walked over to Y/N and sat down beside her, he had asked her to hang out with the intention of telling her that he had feelings for her. But everytime he tried to ask her the two were interrupted, either by some of the Black Bulls who were also out for the evening, or by wait staff at the restaurant.
Magna watched as Y/N stared at the sky, he looked up as well.
“ There’s supposed to be a meteor shower tonight,” Y/N said cheerfully before turning to look at him. “ What are you going to wish for?”
Magna began to quietly panic, he didn’t really have a wish prepared. He began to try and think of one before Y/N began to giggle quietly beside him.
“ It’s alright, I don’t have a wish prepared either. I figure I’ll just figure it out once the shower starts.” She told him.
“ Heh, that sounds like a good idea, and afterwards we can tell each other what we wished for.” He suggested with a small laugh, and Y/N tilted her head.
“ Hm, you’re not supposed to tell each other what you wished for. But I don’t see the harm in doing so.” She told him. Magna felt his face heat up in embarrassment, he remembered Noelle telling him something like that before too. But luckily Y/N wasn’t as harsh with him as Noelle was about it.
As the two sat together quietly Magna looked at her as he remembered when he saw her for the first time. She had been pretty shy and bashful at first, but as he got to know her the spunkier she was. Sometimes she would get in on his and Luck’s shenanigans, and other times she would scold them. But no matter how mad she got she would always smile at him.
And one day that smile made his heart beat differently than it had before, and he noticed when he was around her it seemed like everything she did was amazing, and she always looked beautiful no matter what she was wearing, and his face would flush a million shades of red.
After Magna had gotten fed up with how erratic his emotions were, he decided to talk to Vanessa about it. He’d never forget the look she gave him and the way she tried not to laugh, but she explained that what he was feeling for Y/N was love. Not a familial or platonic love, but a romantic one.
Ever since then Magna had been trying to figure out how he should tell her, or even if he should tell her. But after getting a stern talking to from both Yami and Vanessa about how it was manlier for him to tell her how he felt, he decided he would tell her up front.
“ Ooh it’s starting!” Y/N whispered excitedly as she pointed up to the sky, Magna turned and watched as meteors streaked across the sky in a beautiful shower.
“ Make a wish!” She whispered again as she clasped her hands together, and Magna, with a small smile, followed suit.
Soon, almost too soon, the meteor shower ended and the two opened their eyes and unclasped their hands.
“ So,” She started hesitantly as she leaned in towards Magna. “ What did you wish for?”
Magna suddenly began to panic again, he knew he had to tell her, and he wanted to tell her. But for some reason he felt like he couldn’t. He was afraid of how she would react once he told her, would she laugh it off as a joke? Or would she accept his feelings?
He knew there was only one way to find out, so he took a deep breath, and decided to ‘be a man’.
“ Y/N I,” he cleared his throat. “ I wished that you would be my girlfriend…” he trailed off sheepishly as he looked away and rubbed the back of his head.
Y/N smiled a bit and tilted her head before she grabbed the front of his jacket and pulled him towards her, she couldn’t help but think he looked so cute when he was embarrassed.
“ Y’know,” she started softly as she stared into his eyes. “ My wish was similar, I wished that you would finally have the courage to ask me to be your girlfriend.”
Magna stared at her wide eyed.
“ You knew this entire time?!” He asked in shock, Y/N giggled and nodded.
For the rest of the night the new couple talked about how long they had feelings for each other, kissed for the first time, and tried to figure out how they were going to tell the rest of the squad.

UMMMM 16 with berdly for the writing prompt ask?? can throw a little berdkris in for fun and flavor if u choose (the whole "cyber world was a dream" thing might have berdly thinking abt why his gaming rival was so chivalrous...or why he pictured them in such a nice suit of armor...jus sayin. )
It was just a dream. That was the undeniable truth. It was, admittedly, remarkably vivid for a dream, and it followed an unusually coherent storyline, and while most of his dreams faded into vague impressions just hours after he woke, Berdly was able to recall this dream beat for perfect beat several days later. But it was just a dream.
So why couldn’t he stop thinking about it?
Most of Berdly’s weekend after the botched study session was spent pondering his strange dream. If he wasn’t thinking―and subsequently blowing off his homework, which was unusual for himhe was laying down (also unusual for him). At one point, his mother came into his room and sat on the edge of his bed, pressed a hand against his forehead, and awkwardly asked if he were “sick or something.”
He wasn’t sick. Just very, very tired. And his neck and back ached in a way that made sitting up for prolonged periods of time difficult. He told her he had just fallen asleep at the library and must have pulled a muscle, but he was fine. (She still brought him aspirin and water whenever she came home from work. It helped only marginally, but the thought was nice.) It was true, because it had to be. Because it couldn’t possibly have anything to do with his dream―with the control plug that dragged his limp body across Queen’s rooftop.
It was harder to explain away the on-and-off migraines, the way his vision would suddenly go blurry even when he was wearing his glasses, and the various cuts and bruises he discovered later. It was especially hard to explain away the burn mark on the palm of his right hand. He almost didn’t notice it, but he was about halfway through his shift with Ms. Boom, feeling as though he might collapse and pass out at any given moment. Ms. Boom wanted him to carry something to her office, and he held out his hand to take it from her, only for her to suddenly pull back, sympathetically hissing through clenched teeth.
“Oh, dear, that looks like it hurts,” she said. It didn’t hurt―or, it hadn’t, until she pointed it out. “Do you need a bandage? How did you do that to yourself, anyhow?”
Berdly stared at the singed feathers. “I… have no idea,” he said faintly. Of course, that was the hand he had used when forcing off the control plug in his dream. The metal had been unbearably hot, and a sharp jolt of electricity had traveled up his right arm at the second of disconnection.
But that was a dream, and this was real life.
… He didn’t have an explanation. So he tried not to think about it. He focused his attention on the rather blatant moral lessons he had retained from the dream. That was the whole point of dreams, wasn’t it? They were an opportunity for the subconscious to communicate freely with the rest of the self, without all the noise of everyday life.
There were a few things he surmised, such as the real object of Noelle’s affections. It was from the moment they were alone on the rooftop, after she had come to her senses and stopped shaking him. She apologized profusely. “You just... said a lot of very... um, frankly, very ridiculous things, and I lost my temper,” she told him. And they had gone to the edge of the roof and sat down together, and she continued talking. She told him she never harbored any secret romantic feelings for him, because she was a lesbian. (Oops.) She told him that she had liked Susie the whole time. (Oooops.) “I wish you would stop assuming things for me like that. Like everybody else does. I wish you would listen to me. And, and quit making such an ass of yourself,” was the last thing she had said. She couldn’t quite look at him anymore.
Humbled, Berdly quietly offered her a better apology. He had come precariously close to messing things up on a permanent level, he realized. Noelle laughed, and she hugged him. It was a wonderfully cathartic moment―for a dream. Right up until the moment that Queen interrupted.
To test his hypothesis that the dream was his subconscious hitting him over the head with a multitude of lessons he needed to learn and learn fast, he called Noelle on Saturday evening, and he asked her upfront if she had a crush on Susie. There was a lot of frantic sputtering and stammering, followed by a long moment of silence. The receiver crackled as she drew in a deep breath. “How... how did you know?” she asked, voice shaky, as if she were afraid of his answer.
“Lucky guess,” he said, because ‘I had a dream that you told me that and after I woke up I realized that it might actually be true’ sounded insane. Then he chuckled. “No, it was just kind of obvious.” Because in hindsight, it really was obvious. “But I didn’t want to… assume.”
“… I appreciate that,” she said softly.
Berdly hesitated then. “And, um, more seriously,” he began, “I was really calling because I wanted to apologize.” And he did, trying not to draw too much on his dream self’s words, because that felt like cheating. Much like she had in the dream, Noelle laughed, and that feeling of catharsis settled between them again. And this time, there was no evil Queen to ruin the moment.
There were other things. Like the fact that he really did need to cut himself more slack with school, and the fact that he was prematurely judging not just Kris and Susie, but everyone around him. Dream-Noelle said he was always assuming things on her behalf, but she wasn’t the only one. And during their Saturday night phone call, Noelle had almost frantically asked him if he also had a crush on Susie, which took him by surprise. He had come to that conclusion in his dream, and he paused to consider the possibility for a moment before discarding it in disgust. “Absolutely NOT,” he had said. “Not my type.” Even if Susie’s real life counterpart was also a gruff, kindhearted gamer girl. But he understood what Noelle potentially saw in her now, and that was the lesson he was choosing to walk away with.
Kris, on the other hand―
No. He swerved away from that line of thought. It left him with a sickening, jittery feeling in his chest, and he didn’t need that. Not now, in the middle of class, when he was already having a hard time focusing on Ms. Alphys’s stuttering―when the real Kris was sitting right behind him. His traitorous mind wandered anyway, and lingered on memories of Kris adorned in that shining suit of armor. They commandeered the energy and attention of the entirety of Cyber World with a quiet, unwavering confidence.
There was one moment in particular he couldn’t quite justify to himself. Kris had knelt down beside him after the control plug fiasco, worry etched across their every visible feature. Berdly assured them he was fine, and ended his assertion with a playful wink and a half-delirious nickname: ‘fellow bluebird.’ Kris scoffed and stood up again, turning away―but not before he saw the blush dusted across their cheeks, and―
NO. Berdly pressed down on his pencil too hard, and the lead snapped in half. He muttered a soft curse. One desk over, Noelle shot him a questioning look. He waved her attention away, shifting in his chair and leaning over his woefully blank sheet of ‘notes.’
At least he could ask Noelle for hers later, he thought, glancing her way again. Orrrr not, because her paper looked just as blank as his, save for a few stray doodles he couldn’t quite make out. Whatever; he was supposed to be taking a laxer approach to school; he wouldn’t let himself stress over it.
Not that he was focused enough to work himself up into the throes of an anxiety attack, like he might have a few days ago. His mind was jumping back and forth between his dream, particularly the moment with Dream-Kris―why did he call them that??―and the abominable aching in his neck and back.
He watched Noelle draw a heart on her paper, and he realized that there was no better person to bounce his current dilemma off of.
“Noelle,” he whispered. She didn’t look up from her doodling. He rolled his eyes and leaned over, gently prodding her arm with the eraser end of his pencil. “Noelle,” he said, just a tiny bit louder.
She jumped and her head snapped towards him. “Wh―” She glanced briefly at Ms. Alphys, who was scribbling something on the chalkboard. “What?” she whispered back.
“I need to talk to you.”
Noelle frowned. “We’re in the middle of class…?”
“I know! I mean later. After class. So don’t, like, disappear.”
“Um, okay…” Noelle leaned a bit closer. “What’s this about?”
“Just. Just…” Kris was most likely asleep, but he couldn’t just say it while they were around so many people. “Stuff.”
“What kind of stuff?” Noelle asked, stubbornly prodding further.
Berdly’s cheeks burned, and he could feel his stupid feathers beginning to puff out. “Um. Matters of… romance―”
Ms. Alphys’s voice cut him off. “N-Noelle? Berdly? Do-do you two think your c-conversation could wait until after class? P-Please?”
Noelle hurriedly sat back, her nose momentarily flickering with a faint glow. “Sorry, Ms. Alphys,” she mumbled.
Berdly ran a quick preening hand over the back of his head, smoothing down his feathers. “Sorry, Ms. Alphys,” he repeated.
“Th-That’s okay! Thank you. Now, um, as I was saying…” Berdly quickly lost interest in her words. He glanced at Noelle one more time, just briefly catching her eye. She smiled at him mischievously and waggled her eyebrows, slowly mouthing the words, “You have a crush?”
Berdly ducked his head, partially so she wouldn’t see the silly, embarrassed grin he couldn’t quite keep from forming. He heard her giggle, and Ms. Alphys looked over her shoulder, frowning sternly―or as stern as Ms. Alphys knew how to be. “Guys, please, okay?” she said. “I-I’ll, um, have to separate you two if you can’t s-settle down. A-And I don’t want to do that!” Berdly covered his mouth with one hand and nodded, trying not to laugh himself.
How long had it been since he and Noelle last got in trouble for disrupting class with chatter? Years? Their friendship had shifted into something almost like a business partnership. All homework and studying―stiff, cold, and distant. He shook his head at himself, the giddiness in his chest dying down momentarily as he reflected again on how stupid he had been. He had come so close to losing the sweetest person in the world as his best friend. But his detour into lamenting territory was cut short by a sharp prick in his upper arm.
Noelle had leaned over again to pluck out one of his feathers. When he turned to face her, she brandished it triumphantly. “Who is it, who is it??” she whispered excitedly.
“I’m not going to tell you now!” he hissed back. “Also, ow!? Give that back!” He tried to snatch the loose feather from Noelle’s hand, but she leaned out of reach, giggling again.
“It’s mine until you tell me!” she said.
Ms. Alphys had been in the middle of erasing something from the board, and she slammed the eraser down, sending up a small cloud of chalk dust. “A-Alright, th-that’s it!” She turned around, hands on her hips. “Um. Um… Catti! Switch seats with N-Noelle for the rest of the day.”
Catti glanced up from her phone for a second, almost incredulous, and then she shrugged and stood up. Noelle gathered her materials into her arms, still giggling, still holding Berdly’s feather in one hand. Before she stood up to move to Catti’s desk, she said, “I’m serious! Don’t even think about chickening out. I wanna know!” She smiled at him, warmer than any smile she had given him in a long time.
Berdly rolled his eyes. Of course he wasn’t going to chicken out. He rubbed his arm, a little miffed at losing a feather, but even that irritation faded faster than it might have in the past. The pain was gone already, anyway. Next to him, Catti sat down in Noelle’s chair, eyes trained on her phone, a clawed thumb lightly ‘tap-tap-tapping’ on the screen.
It was funny, really. Berdly had broken his streak of perfect classroom behavior, and his notes on today’s lesson were not only nonexistent―he wasn’t even sure what subject Ms. Alphys was teaching. Just two days ago, the very idea would have been utterly mortifying. But now, it just didn’t matter that much.
Because he had his best friend back.

Dist?
Why I like them:
I really enjoy Liam O'Brien's voice work, especially in villain/smug roles, and his performance as Dist is great. Dist brings some excellent humor, but on a more thematic level, he really ties Jade's childhood into the narrative, moreso than Nephry and even Peony. I like that there's a sense that Jade could be like him, just as obsessed with the past, not caring about who he has to hurt to achieve his goal of restoring the professor. In fact, Jade has been like him, so in that way Dist gives an indirect look at a younger, more immature Jade. Just another reason to wish the game employed more flashbacks. On that note, I also like seeing him as a kid in the anime – I feel sorry for the little guy.
Why I don't:
His treatment in-game feels homophobic at times, and I feel like the game doesn't go far enough to humanize him. He's an object of pity, and we feel the weight of Jade's remorse on his, “Farewell, Saphir” line. But the game hasn't really allowed us to see that serious side of their past/relationship. I also wish the game had Dist piloting his machines when you fight them, because it would feel more direct and personal.
Favorite scene:
Maybe when he kidnaps Noelle? It's such a flip to suddenly see him as a credible villain, one who's even backed Jade into a corner.
Favorite line:
Oh, there's lots of good ones – “You're all just jealous of my beauty!”, him calling the team the Jade Gang, him referencing his revenge journal. But I'm a sap for melodramatic moments, I like the sort of sad vainglory in his “Professor Nebilim, I'm coming,” delivery.
Favorite outfit:
Has he gotten any other outfits in the escort titles? I think he's wearing a Malkuth uniform in some art, but I have to give the win to his sharp suit and feather collar.
OTP:
I don't have an otp for him, but when it comes to shipping him, who would I pick? I wasn't ever really on board with JadeDist because Jade always seemed to be completely dead-set against him. And not in a I'm trying to cover something up, baka sort of way, just a disgusted way. But then I read your ship manifesto and I realized that, in the words of Mrs Potts, there may be something there that wasn't there before. You make a really good case for Jade's treatment of him being singular and hinting at something deeper.
That being said, were I writing Dist and pairing him up, I think I'd probably lean towards a male OC who was fairly sweet and low-key because I feel like I'd want to see Dist being nurtured and taken care of after his messed-up twenties and thirties. But this unknown guy would also, like, have to be capable of not budging an inch, because Dist may end up reforming himself post-game, but he's still going to need some supervision.
BROTP:
We never really get any sense of what Peony's and Dist's dynamic is, so I'd love to see that explored. They both have rather showy, theatrical sides (and a disregard for convention), so I think they might get up to lots of wacky, potentially politically unsound hijinks.
Head Canon:
I haven't developed any, but I like the idea of him getting better after the game and helping with moving fomicry forward (in a more humane way).
Unpopular opinion:
I don't know of any?
A wish:
I think the guy needs to be taken care of. He needs a person, or people. I think he, like Luke and Natalia, desperately wants a feeling of permanence and connection, of being accepted and of knowing he's loved. For a long time, he got those feelings from Nebilim, and when she died, that was a huge psychological break. But he also got that from Jade, so he presumably was able to cope. But then Jade (in his mind) betrayed him, and then he's right off the deep end, prepared to kill most of humanity just to further his scientific (but mostly personal) goals. I think it's really sad that he probably thinks his best days are behind him in his childhood, so I want him to push on and be better and make good connections with people.
Please-don't-ever:
...leave him alone to freeze into a popsicle at Keterberg?
5 words:
obsessive, grandiose, innovative, fragile, lonely
My nickname for them:
None. At least I don't call him Dist the Runny.
