alright people you all need to know

helluva boss is objectively a better show than hazbin hotel. which isnt a high bar to beat but still

look the animation is better, the songs are better other than a few, the story is better and more relatable, with more relateable characters than hazbin, the characters and the designs of them are better because they dont rely on stripes and dots to make everyone different, they just art. hell moxxie, milie, and blitz are all the same type of creature and yet they are ten times better and more diverse than the whole hazbin cast.

there isnt too many main characters. our mains in heluva are the I.M.P, and stolas. everyone else is objectively a side character. in hazbin however we have Charlie, Vaggie, Angel, Husker, pentious, Alastor, soon to be lucifer, niffty, and all the villains like the vees and the angels. in hazbin they try to give the spotlight to the characters who dont need it, while not giving it to the mains as much as needed. in helluva, they do get side tracked alot, however endless its made clear that that episode is gonna be about xuz character, its mostly about our mains, esp blitz and stolas seeing how any more, they are the main event (lowkey cant wait for apology tour. full moon was... REALY good. ALSO VEROSIKA IS COMING BACK LETS GOOOOOOOO)

helluva boss tried to introduce all its villains naturally in season one. and it did. fizz got replaced with mammon so im interested to see where that goes

overall, helluva boss, isnt perfect. its a comedy telenovela basically. but thats its charm

its only strong suits are is music and animation. and even then. that isnt enough to carry a full ass show.

OH HEY ANOTHER FEW WEEKS HAVE PASSED BEFORE I ANSWERED THIS. HAHA I live in shame every breathing moment <3

ANYWAY!! AYIN!!! OUR FRIEND!!! THE ULTIMATE DAD\MOM\GRANDMA!!! The one who holds so much pain behind their gentle hands.... one of my favorite elders, right behind Priestess (shhhhh let's ignore the fact she isnt even canon). Let's get right to them!!!!

GENDAQUEEEER I am a firm he\she\they Ayin believer (although it does make writing fics with him a bit tricky lol). idk why, but it makes so much sense, both because I feel like Ayin feels love and appreciation towards all gender expressions, be it feminine or masculine, and because I'm projecting my own gender identity onto em. plus, Ayin was called both a he and a they by tgc, and in one of the game's translations (I don't remember the language, unfortunately), Ayin is called "Prairie grandma" instead of Prairie elder. Overall, I feel like Ayin wouldn't care what pronouns you use for her, he is happy with all (projecting again), and they will wear beautiful dresses and gorgeous suits depending on the mood.

PANSEXULAAAA I don't even have any explanation for this one, I just know it on molecular level.

Youngest child syndrome Headcanon that Ayin is the youngest of three kids, having two older twin brothers. Both because it just… makes sense for him to be the youngest (listen. Half of my headcanons are just vibes.), and because when @grapeless-seeds introduced this headcanon to me (using early beta content where it seemed that some spirit memories were actually memories of the elders, and what we concluded was beta ayin was surrounded by two more spirits that looked a lot like them) I fell in love with it immediately. There are so many funny scenarios that can arise from it, esp if Ayin turns out to be taller than her older brothers. This is also a basis for some of my angst for Ayin too, because out of the other elders, Ayin has the most family still up there in the constellation while she is stuck down there (I'm a "elders are fallen stars who crave to get back home" type of fella)

ARTS & CRAFTS Like to think that Ayin is the type of person to always make some sort of pretty trinkets and stuff, often pairing up with Teth to make them. His favorite type of creation though? Clay pots! All the smaller clay pots you see around her temple are handmade by her :) (even though it does get tricky with their big hands :"D)

Hard of hearing Hard of hearing Ayin headcanon blast! I like to think that the reason they have bells on their temple is so that he can hear their calls better since she would have a hard time hearing them from the village. Originally born from noticing the detail that in his cutscene, Ayin needs to look around before spotting you instead of simply following the sound of our footsteps and the flame. He mostly hears either thanks to a special device created by Teth for him, or through the rumbles of the earth around them. Which leads to-

Is this an avatar reference I forgot to mention this in my Teth headcanon list, but I hc that the elders that appear holding the colored light in the cave of Prophecies can manipulate the respective elements. Even more, they could do so even before they were granted these lights, but it was the lights that allowed them to master the skill. So Ayin, as the holder of Earth, is one of the most powerful elders - she can transform the terrain, make plants grow, lift entire islands into the sky (why do you think their temple is so high up), and even change gravity. If such power fell to any other hands but Ayin's who knows what could have happened? Thankfully, Ayin has a very strong connection and respect for the land, coming from a constellation (the way the stars call their families) of farmers (but that is a whole other can of worms) so you can be sure Ayin can be trusted with it. But if they were to use it aggressively…..

I got my ass kicked, I ain't posting that Both because of Ayin's ability to manipulate earth, AND their sheer size and physical strength, if you somehow manage to get into a physical fight with them, expect your ass to get handed to you on a cute hand made plate. But let's be honest if you somehow manage to get such a calm and gentle person like Ayin to fight you, you deserve everything that comes next.

A single mom who works two jobs...... It's already canon that Flight guide was Ayin's apprentice, but my headcanon extends to Sanctuary guide too, and that for both of them, Ayin was not only a master but a parental figure as well. Even though all the other elders told Ayin that it would be silly to raise ancestor children since the ancestor life span is so much shorter and they will see their kids grow and get old and die before them, Ayin still took on the job because she couldn't let these poor kids have no home, ready to face the pain of their death if just she gets to see them grow old and happy. well… they did die earlier than Ayin…. unfortunately, they also died much, much earlier than they were supposed to and Ayin expected. Oops.

This is the part where we get to the horrors During the height of the darkstone era and the fallout that happened after it, Ayin was caught between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, he longed desperately to get back to the stars and reunite with his family, and that, at the time, was believed to be possibly only through continual darkstone use. On the other, as mentioned earlier, Ayin has a great connection to the land and a great love for creatures and nature. We can even see it in their realm, which is the healthiest, most thriving out of all others. I mean, she has a whole ass sanctuary in the Prairie, so it's clear that the preservation of nature was very important to them. So Ayin was deeply conflicted, wanting to return to the stars but knowing it would be at the expense of the land. This desire to go home was what caused her to go with the continual industrialization at first, and the crushing guilt just made them work harder and harder, running themself thin trying to provide enough light from their realm for the growing demand, because hey, if they work themself to exhaustion, they don't have enough time to dwell if their actions are good! Sleep became their coping mechanism. (Might not be super healthy, but hey! At least it's not DRINKING like in early concept art! I still can't believe they were planning to make Ayin a drunk and that the pots were originally there to contain the drink.)

more horrors Such behavior and Ayin's quiet acceptance of the situation continued up until… it couldn't anymore. Ayin couldn't go on like that anymore, she saw her land and her neighbor's lands fall to ruin, more and more people becoming sick, a war waging taking more and more resources and lives…. and the catalyst for it all was the death of both of her apprentices, who died protecting the very same things she taught them to protect. That was the final straw. And Prairie officially joined the resistance.

Oops, still horrors. So you remember that cut-out beta part of the Aurora concert where we saw the elders on the battlefield during the war, with Ayin with Daleth being on the side of the resistance? Yeah, it's a pretty cool basis for this headcanon, BUT ACTUALLY, this idea came to me so much earlier, IN A DREAM. I am not even joking, I had a dream 3 years ago where Ayin was fighting in the war. Speak of Apollo and his prophetic visions, huh? Do you remember how I mentioned that Ayin would be terrifying to fight against due to her control over earth? Yea, let's just say the giant craters on the battlefield in GW weren't always there.

Doomed middle aged yaoi An extension to the previous point, I'm a Tsadi x Ayin fan, and seeing how Tsadi appeared on the other side of the battle on that one cut out segment... well, do what you will with it.

okay back to normal stuff Ayin is really great at putting children to sleep, even the most energetic ones. there is just something about the softness and warmth of his body and the general calming vibes around her that make young children relax. Was really helpful to Priestess when the little twins were full of energy all too late when she had none.

Grandma instinct Don't say you're hungry next to them. Ayin WILL cook a "all you can eat" buffet for you if you do. No one is going hungry if Ayin can help it. Honestly, I know this hc sounds very joky, but I genuinely love the healthy relationship with food Ayin has. It really helps me to not worry about calories and weight gain. I know Ayin would want me to be well fed and eat tasty food first and foremost. :3

Do you have tips for writing old poetry? Or even just terms most commonly used in old poetry/writing such as thy, thou, thee and explain when to use those?

I'm so happy that you've found the blog to be helpful! ♥ Although words like thy, thou, and thee appear in poetry across the eras, I suspect the era of poetry you're probably talking about is the romantic era, which only lasted about 25 years (from the late 1700s to about 1825) but it includes some of the most famous "old poetry" poets, like Keats, Shelley, Blake, Wordsworth, Byron, and Coleridge.

Outside of learning what thou, thee, thy, and thine mean and when they're used, there's really not a lot of "terminology" you need to know, but really more era appropriate vocabulary. And the best way to learn about that is to read poems by those poets. Pay attention to the words that are used, look them up, write them down. By reading a lot of the kind of poetry you want to write, you'll familiarize yourself with the words, sound, and style you want to recreate.

I'm not a poet, so this area isn't my strong suit, but from what I remember, thou/thee/thy/thine work like this:

Thou = "you" when "you" is the subject. For example: Thou art like a summer's day, meaning "you are like a summer's day."

Thee = "you" when "you" is the object. For example: Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Meaning "should I compare you to a summer's day?"

Thine/Thy = "your/yours" with thine proceeding vowels and thy proceeding consonants. For example: To thine own self be true. ("Own" starts with an "o" which is a vowel, so we use "thine" here.) And it means "to your own self be true." Example two: In thy presence there is only peace. ("Presence" starts with a "p" which is a consonant, so we use "thy" here.) And it means, "in your presence there is only peace."

SIOC - an inuzuka, because maybe i like princess mononoke, okay. she is, not great, at a lot of ninja arts, but she is stubborn and also there is not much else TO do when you're born into a ninja clan. tempted to either give her a water nature or an earth nature simply because then i can make "wet dog smell" or "good at digging holes" into jokes at her expense. the inuzuka dont explicitly have a kekkei genkai but chakra is such weird bullshit that i'm headcanoning their noses are, in fact, genetic bullshit. being able to SMELL people well enough to track them never stops being weird whenever she stops to think about it. She is not allergic to chocolate but also remembers "dogs eating chocolate = bad" that she is too nervous to test it. eventually kiba realizes this and laughs at her for days. (kiba is her cousin, in this universe. not like, super close family, but like. they got lumped together for family playdates as kids. they have blackmail on each other.) Fuuinjutsu is complicated bullshit and she HATES that she cannot get it to work right, ever.

-Teammate #1 - a nara, but far less distantly related to shika than SIOC is to kiba. Does not have a name that starts with shika because im borrowing the DoS!headcanon of that being a tradition for the clan head. She does not have enough chakra to use Shadow Possession for very long, but she can still do it. Instead of Shikamaru's method of manuevering opponents into disadvantageous situations she kind of. cheats. Yes, the jutsu makes you copy her movements so reaching into a kunai pouch also gives *you* a kunai, but... not if she wears it in a completely unorthodox position. :) Do YOU have a kunai pouch on your bicep? She does. :) Also she has a habit of walking around the nara clan forest. She's a nara, so the deer leave her alone. She watched a poacher wander in and get gored to death by a ninja deer as a kid though and it stuck with her, so she's like. slight serial killer vibes. Also even though shadow possession isnt her strong suit, the way it connects to chakra makes it a really good conduit for genjutsu. Someone familiar with nara bullshit will assume shes using Shadow Paralysis, and trying to fight THAT off means theyre not fluctuating their chakra to break genjutsu, which is useful!!

-Teammate #2 - hyuuga. very distantly related to the main branch, and is much less bitter about the whole thing because of it. Yeah the main family and the elders suck ass but he literally never has to worry about bloodline theft. Im headcanoning that the byakugan kinda varies in strengths for each member, which is why neji is lauded for his range AND accuracy, and can be trained to emphasize certain qualities. So hinata, on a tracking team, is good at long distance and bad at detail, and neji is good at detail and range because he's on a front line combat squad. OC here has really really good detail but fucking dogshit range. He can read a book that's still closed but he could not tell you what's going on in the immediately adjacent room. But thats okay, because he has decided to eschew training the gentle fist (where he would always fall short) for training to be team medic. Who needs an xray machine when you can literally look at someone's organs?? The clan elders would probably consider it improper but also he's like 6 branches removed from the line of succession and doesnt draw much attention to himself so they literally don't even remember he exists unless he's in the same room as them.

Sensei - okay i actually dont have much of a concept for this. I know i kind of want them to be. Somewhat of an asshole. But I also want them to be an Actual Canon Character? If I decide to go full self indulgence I might just go "in this AU anko was promoted to jounin, fuck it" but who knows.

Key factors - they do not take part in the chuunin exams. Whether that's because their sensei is like "you've done all of 1 c-rank and the konoha teams ALONE this year are full of prodigies, fuck no" or because one member is on medical leave is up in the air. They DO, however, go on a month-long C rank to the middle of nowhere like 2 weeks before the finals, and come back to konoha half destroyed and down one hokage though, which means their sensei goes "hahaha yeah okay I'm doubling down on your training immediately what the FUCK".

The next chuunin exams take place during the timeskip though, so i can send them to literally any other country and have fun. This chuunin exam will, almost certainly, include Sakura punching an opponent through a wall at some point. Possibly in the finals, while tsunade sits in the stands and acts INCREDIBLY smug. Not sure what i would do for a roster here because like. Obviously the main canon characters would kick ass given they all got to the semi finals in the exam 6 months earlier... but konoha cant completely steal the show...??

part of me still wants to write a self indulgenty SIOC naruto fic of my own. i have no idea what i want to do plot-wise or timeline wise or anything, but i DO know that i've put lots of thought into fantasizing about my dumb OCs.

Here are non sexy things that Steven and Marc could do if they were dating while being in the same bodies[this list is based entirely on dates my alters have gone together, slightly edited to fit the MoonKnight show]

Go out to eat and take turns fronting so they both can enjoy the food.[Or buy two appetizers, one vegan and one meat filled.]

Watch a movie curled up on the couch and comment to each other about the movie.

Go for a walk and pretend they are there together.

Buy small gifts and leave them out for the other to see.

Write love notes when the other isnt watching and waiting for them to discover them.

Tell each other stories about what they would do if they were in seperate bodies {and not the avatar of Khonshu}[this can lead to sexy time]

Dress up in the clothing of choice for the other person and do a bit of fashion modelling [or stripping. Thats always fun. My Steve doesnt like to strip because he hs insanely strong body dysmorphia due to the difference between how he feels he looks and how he actually looks, but Penn has turned stripping out of a full suit and tie into an art form.]

One more one specific to Moon Knight

Go to the museum and have Marc watch all hearts eyed as Steven talks about all the Egyptian history because he's such a happy goofy goober when talking about Egyptian stuff and Marc loves seeing Steven so excited. Even if he knows exactly what something is, he still asks Steven to explain what the story behind something is because he can see Steven's eyes light up from the reflection on the glass cases. And of course, eventually, Steven notices and is like “Oi, what're you looking at me like that for?" all flustered and embarrassed and Marc is like “Cus you are adorable, sweetheart.” and Steven is all blushy and flustered and grinning like a dork and won't look at the glass until Marc asks what some object was for and he's back to being all excited.

These are all excellant ways that alters can go on dates without any Ancient Egyptian magic mumbo-jumbo. Hope this helps spark some ner fics!

Hey I really enjoy what you do, and I'm willing to ask you something! It's been my dream for awhile to become a character designer/storyboard artist since the beginning of highschool. I draw as much as possible, but I'm usually not satisfied with what I make, and I'm wondering I'm going about this dream right. I guess my question is, how did you achieve your dream?

I can relate. In highschool I drew a lot because I loved drawing! But there were a few things I really needed to learn before achieving my dream and they werent what I thought they'd be.

And hope youre ready for a long post because this stuff is sometimes complicated!

Up until the end of college and even after that I worked under the assumption that if I drew enough and drew well enough I'd eventually land a gig by having a strong portfolio alone. However its important to remember that working in this industry is: 1) A job with certain requirements that need to be met and- 2) collaborative which means its going to be very hard to go about this alone but also- 3) Dont lose yourself in pursuit of a job.

Regarding the first part. I thought being a good draftsman alone would get me in. I wasnt really paying attention to what goes into the field I was trying to get into. I focused mostly on character acting which is what I loved most but sorta ignored the fact that storyboards also require things like characters being in backgrounds, strong composition, and knowledge of picking good shots to tell a story. I had to step outside of my comfort zone and learn those things. I didnt have to be the best at them but I had to know enough to make it look believable. (Meaning, dont beat yourself up too much, nothing has to be perfect) Point being, research the job you want to do, find out how the animation pipeline works and what is expected of you in the position you want. If you dont know whats expected of you, it can be harder to tailor your portfolio to display the skills that recruiters want to see.

Secondly

You're going to be a part of a team so its important to make connections and be a person people will want to work with. I dont mean you have to change yourself entirely to fit in. But it helps to have social skills that show you're cooperative and nice to be around.

You may have heard about how this industry has a lot of nepotism. Thats not wrong, and it may suck to hear. But in a high stress team oriented job, you dont wanna work with people who will treat you like shit, so people are more likely to recommend you or seek you out if they know youre a good person to work with. I wasnt the most social person in highschool or college. I had a small group of friends and stuck to them. Nothing wrong with that but I was a bit...rusty with interacting with people outside that. You have to learn things like how to compromise, do things that others may want to do but you dont. It can be hard, especially if like me, you're neurodivergent, but its still important.

Not everyone is fortunate to be able to meet industry people in person but thankfully the internet has discord servers and other online spaces to try and interact with people. But PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD do not approach people to make a connection solely for a job. People smell that shit a mile away. Instead just, try to be yourself and be kind, make genuine connections with people when possible. Which leads me to my last point.

DONT LOSE YOURSELF

I've given a lot of information that may seem contradictory and hey, this shit isnt easy to navigate and Im still learning. Somewhere in the second step I sorta lost track of what I liked, what I wanted to do, I really became stuck on being someone I thought other people in the industry would like. I changed my art style and what I drew to better suit what I thought would be well liked. I did enjoy trying new things but eventually I was just trying to impress some anonymous blob and felt overwhelmd. I really felt like a failure as a person and an artist.

If people told me my art was so good, why couldnt I get a job?

My portfolio had examples of it from things I'd done in freelance but still no major job. I was about to give up when I was ghosted after a test I was proud of. After a really bad depressive episode I just decided to make a storyboard about fairy. Something simple but fun. I hadnt drawn a lot of my dreamons and shared them in a while so it felt nice to return to the things I liked. After finishing that personal board I put it up and thats when I started to get bites from studios.

I'll share with you what I've heard from many industry artists interviews. You need to have your own voice. It may be tempting to try and emulate someone else. (for ex. I saw a lot of people really try to replicate glen keanes work) and its okay to be inspired but if your work is nothing more than an imitation of someone else then studios would probably rather just get that person. You are an individual! You have your own experiences and likes and maybe they overlap with other things (thats okay) but try to bring your voice to the table. That also helps with the above in helping people get to know you. My shit is weird whacky zany squishy stuff and I'm happy to be getting back into it full swing. Also remember everyone's journey is totally different. Try not to compare your progress with others, it'll drive you nuts. Also remember this is just my personal experience. If you ask this question of others you're likely to get a million different responses, so take my words with a grain of salt!

GENERALLY im not a huge fan of the newer fnaf lore. 1-3 is good purely for nostalgia purposes but generally everything pre pizzeria simulator + UCN? its decent! got some characters you can get attached to while not removing the spooky factor (SECURITY BREACH) you had the dead kids. you had the old creepy bastard getting a taste of his own medicine. a proper conclusion, even if it was the . um. third? proper conclusion in the series

i ALSO love william aftons character. hes horrendous. truly the worst. great antagonist as long as i dont look scraptrap in the...anywhere. he's always been my favorite character, and ive been into fnaf before #3 even came out so you know thats SAYING SOMETHING lmao

takes the cake as my favorite game series of all time. piqued my interest in horror. piqued my interest in art. fnaf is one of my favorite things ever in GENERAL, actually. shaped who i am today! my favorite hyperfixation then and one of my favorites now! if i never got into five nights at freddys, i wouldnt be as skilled of an artist. id have never gotten into online spaces, i wouldnt have the same interests, and id probably be an asshole all things considered. it made me happy for years and years -- i poured so much love into making content for this silly little horror game series and i genuinely wouldnt have it any other way.

I feel like when it comes to leftism, I agree with just about every point you make (although there are some areas of politics that I honestly just don't know much about, so it's difficult for me to form an opinion on those things), but every time you talk about religion, it sounds like you have almost no idea what you're talking about. It also seems like you only bring up religious drama so you can be like "lol y'all mad" anytime anyone criticizes mormonism or challenges your views. The only reason I'm still following you is because you reblog a lot of nice furry art that I otherwise wouldn't see on my dash, but you're more and more on thin ice every time I see one of your posts or reblogs about religion. It you're going to talk about religion, maybe do some actual research and listen to others outside of your small circle of "progressive mormons." The majority of the lds church is full of conservative bigots, and pretending it's not is just going to cause more harm than good.

I presume this is in answer to my question about whether people like to hear my thoughts. You certainly have answered my question here, and I appreciate your honesty and candor. I hope it's okay that I use this as a place to address some of the points youve brought up, and my thoughts both on Mormonism, and religion in general. If you ever have more questions, always feel free to reach out to me through a DM. Though I can appear cantankerous and argumentative on my blog, in reality, I am always down for a chat, and I appreciate the opportunity to set aside differences and talk.

Ok, so let's get into it.

To be honest, I am a bit surprised that you think my leftist arguments are things you agree with, while my religious arguments you think I dont know what I am talking about, and am out to get peoples attention and get people upset. If anything, I feel the opposite is more usually true. If I recall correctly, most of the times I have been looking to rile peoples feathers with my takes was when I was posting leftist political shit, such as most recently when I brought the wrath of tankie tumblr upon me by saying I thought it was a shame they were the face of leftism on tumblr. When it comes to my religious takes, while I sometimes can be a bit cheeky, I try to be more careful and reserved (though this time that didnt work out: while I think a lot of the hate I am getting isnt warranted, I see why some of my wording got people upset). In fact, religion is more of my strong suit than politics, to be honest. And while, yes, I do get obnoxious and crass when people challenge me on my Mormonism a lot, that is less interesting to me than having dialogues with people about religious belonging and furthering productive discourse. In fact, right now I am working on a few essays in that vein that I hope to share soon, which I hope will show how deeply and carefully I do think about these things.

As to the points about me not talking about issues more broad than the circle of progressive Mormons that I interact with on tumblr, I both agree and disagree with you. On the one hand, I agree that there is more I can do to learn more about religions outside of Mormonism. I have been wanting for a while to study Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism, though not necessarily in that order. I never quite get around to it, to my shame. I do try to at least listen to voices outside of my religious bubble, though I could do more there. Everyone could, I think.

On the other hand, I disagree that I dont do enough to focus on the sins of my church. I am very aware of them, and have spoken out against them numerous times. I even try to associate and listen to former Mormons and people who have left (I need to do better here, in all honesty), and to speak out where I can against my church's bad policies.

And bad policies there are aplenty. Where to begin. We have a history of racism, sexism, imperialism, queerphobia, and more. In our history, we have committed atrocities, opposed gay marriage and the equal rights amendment, and more. People have criticised the missionary program for imperialism, and preying upon vulnerable people (fair criticisms, I think). The church has been a source of pain for far too long for far too many, and there is much that needs to be done to begin to right our wrongs. I do what I can to keep aware of that, and speak out where I can.

But at the end of the day, being Mormon isnt only about being ashamed of my churchs wrongs. It is about drawing closer to Christ, and helping my fellow Mormons do the same. It is about doing good where I can. This is what I try to do more than anything else with my religious sentiments I share on tumblr. It is not meant to ignore the wrongs my church, which are legion, but rather to help out people like me, queer Mormons who are looking for a place where they are heard, and where they can belong. I need to do more to that end, and I do get caught in the weeds of the internet sometimes. But I do try.

If at the end of the day, you decide that I am someone who is married to a bad church and wont stop standing up for them even though theyre awful, and I'm not doing enough to listen to others: that is your judgement to make. At the end of the day, as rational and impartial as I try to be, I am prone to be biased in favor of myself. Perhaps you see something in me that I am failing to see in myself. And at the end of the day, if I am a source of frustration or annoyance on your blog, you can always unfollow me, or block any tags that get you upset. I wont lie and say I wouldnt be hurt by that, but I would understand. But I hope that you can see that I am trying to listen, to learn, and to help where I can. I have a long way to go, and today has taught me that, and humbled me in some ways I didnt realize I needed. But if nothing else, I am trying to be better at this. I hope you can forgive me for that.

okay so first my fave and then my fave obscure/underappreciated character

fave is of course my boy gawain. i want to put him in a jar and shake him up until he cries. like. my man is so interesting. all the people close to him agree that he's super noble and kind and goodhearted and just. but also he has a sense of humor!! and even more interesting than that is he's willing to throw himself under the bus for the betterment of others

in sir gawain and the green knight, when the green knight comes to challenge someone in a duel to the death, gawain makes a big show about how he's Clearly the most suited one there and how it would be silly to challenge anyone else and no one could really take on the green knight except for him. he makes himself look like a completely pompous asshole. but also that spares literally everyone else from having to rise to the challenge of facing a very terrifying and clearly magical foe. everyone gets off scott free by saying "ugh big headed gawain showing off again, lets all watch him get his ass kicked" while they can secretly be relieved none of them had to step in, or WORSE say no to the challenge and make king arthur and his court look weak. by making himself look like a dick (something everyone there knows he isnt) he lets everyone save face while also protecting them from almost certain death and he does it SO well that the green knight is none the wiser. like. big brain moves only from my boy gawain

in a COMPLETELY different tone he's such a fucking horse girl and in one of the stories (i cant remember which one. yvain maybe???) gringolet his horse gets stolen and the man just like lies on the ground crying about it. he loves his horse so much!!!! and its so funny!!!! he's so strong and brave and his horse gets stolen and its full toddler hours from noble knight gawain. the other knights are like my man you gotta pull yourself together and gawain is like *snot and tears* MY BEST FRIEND GRINGOLET

now my favorite obscure/underappreciated character from the arthurian canon is moriaen. i dont blame people for not knowing him because his story is very rare and hard to find but more people should!! he's the only knight of the round table who's canonically black and he's really fascinating

its very clear in the text that, while there's some stuff thats obviously MMMM,,, today, it was the author at the times attempt to be really progressive and accepting. moriaen has very dark skin and a lot of the characters in the story have never met a black man before and are originally very scared of him. however in his story moriaen comes to be known as the MOST christian and noble of all the knights of the round table (in a time where christian = good and moral) and the people who were originally afraid of him are so impressed by his good heartedness, morality, and strength, that they come to value and praise him. also his father, who is a white knight of the round table, actually ends up going back to [unspecified country in northern africa] to pursue justice for his mother's kingdom. like its very elementary social justice kind of stuff today but for the medieval period this was RADICAL and its really really cool to me

on the topic, for the movie question, everyone should watch king arthur legend of the sword (2017) because like. is it good. no. does the story make any sense. no. is it historically accurate or faithful to the canon. god not even a little. does it fuck severely for no goddamn reason and go so fucking hard at every opportunity? I still haven’t watched all of them but I was wondering what the hourglass meant that’s all over this comeback. Anyway thank you very much, I’m sorry if this is weird

hi !! first off, welcome :D how are you liking ateez so far? any favorite boys yet? i hope all the pre-comeback activities are hyping you up!! ALSO, that isn't a dumb question i promise !! yes, they do have a storyline! it comes with a lot of theories since they won’t explicitly tell us & it also spans across A LOT of their content. like mvs, albums, lyrics, vcrs, shows, etc. i’ll put my own thoughts under the read more because it’s a lot. i also can’t explain the hourglass without telling you about their story too. 

to me, the ateez storyline has pretty general themes in regards to good vs evil.. rebellion vs control.. multiverses/timelines/time travel. i’ll be going through this per era (treasure & fever) !! i’ll try to focus primarily on their mvs, but i’ll mention some things from their albums and some vcrs for their comebacks.

TREASURE ERA (EP.1-5): 

pirate king/treasure mv doesn’t have too much story to it. these two mvs are mainly just introductions to them and their story. esp with the very iconic lines “will you be my friend?” and in the intro track on the album right before pirate king, “will you join us?” they sing a lot about their ambitions and the future. it’s safe to believe that this is the good ateez. 

say my name is our first glance at the bad ateez (or who everyone calls halateez). in this mv, we can see that ateez are in distress. in a lot of their solo shots, they’re typically in not likable settings. yeosang is trapped in a glass box with a member of halateez staring him down. hongjoong is sat in a blue hallway with a lot of smoke. yunho is at a desk surrounded by papers & this is also where we first see the hourglass (or cromer). however, it’s just a prop for now. san is in a room surrounded by broken glass.. BUT only after he is seen staring at one of the members of halateez through it. in the big table scene, you can see them all working to find the answer to something.. which is very interesting to note that wooyoung is the only one to be seen in that room alone after an alarm seemingly makes all the other evacuate. WE ALSO get the first face-off between halateez and ateez. but they’re not directly face to face. they’re only seeing them through glass panels & we can see that ateez is very clearly defiant when it comes to them. we also see that when seonghwa is facing the halateez member alone, that it’s him. which could also showcase the time traveling aspect. as if halateez is jumping through the timelines to get to them. another interesting thing to note that in the last verse of the song, it switches off between ateez and halateez. this mv ends with the treasure instrumental & yeosang missing from the glass casing. 

in hala hala, it is primarily halateez. the members in this mv are seen in darker attire & makeup and more clean cut. i believe halateez is from a universe where they are the ones in charge & calling the shots. if not that, then a very organized and powerful rebellion group. hence the same outfits almost like a uniform. this mv isn’t much but halateez dancing.. HOWEVER, the ending is VERY interesting. all members snap their necks at the same time (hence the lyric ‘suicide squad’).. all members BUT wooyoung. he ultimately pretends to do it, but is the last one standing and wiping blood from his mouth while surrounded by all of the bodies.. and remember, wooyoung was the only one alone in the room all of ateez were in while they were working on documents. 

jumping to wave & illusion.. we can see that this is a pretty sudden change. however, it all still matches with their storyline very well. 

in illusion, the members are seen in bright and colorful clothing on a flying boat asleep. in this, they’re back to that adventuring pirate crew from the beginning. however, the lyrics show that they have... no idea who they are and where they are. it’s believed too that the lyrics are talking to someone. in the middle of all of their singing about how they found paradise and how they can just party it up now, there’s a repeated “let me free” which kind of seems.. out of place. if we’re having fun, why do we need to be let free? as the title entails, this is all an illusion. the hourglass is seen again along with a glass cube and a butterfly on a table. we also see a quick glance of a halateez mask on the globe. we can see mingi listening to a headset/tape player. they make it to an island that is very.. fake. a large compass.. a floating hourglass and just very desaturated colors. even the members lose saturation when they reach the ground. they eventually find.. a cave? it has a lot of drapes and tinfoil looking walls. for a split second, we see a member of halateez standing there. ateez then reaches a very smokey room with lights and flowers. they don’t look so happy anymore. it’s like the illusion is very much wearing off. also remember, they initially were looking for their paradise so for the illusion of one to be broken... hmm. this mv ends with the members running away towards a light & shots of them sleeping in wave play where it ends with a whispered “open your eyes”. 

in wave, the members are together once again on an island. just them this time. it’s very fun. but.. it’s almost like they were dropped there. i mean, sure it makes sense that san/yeosang/jongho wake up in a bed... but why is mingi waking up under a tree in the middle of nowhere? looking at the headset/tape player confused like it isnt his? why is seonghwa waking up in a pool and why is hongjoong waking up on the road? for the most part, they all wake up alone but they eventually find each other again. once they’re all together, we can see that ateez are suddenly the same carefree souls they were before. constantly talking about how there should be no worries. 

in wonderland, it’s kind of.. hard to distinguish if this is halateez or ateez. we can see a lot of power dynamics here. hongjoong raps about how he shouldn’t be doubted if they wanted to reach neverland/their utopia. i say this because he mentions being a child forever like peter; but also because of the illusion mv. it’s also pretty obvious that mingi holds a type of power here. he’s seen as the center of attention with the marching band like he’s the leader of a grand army. aside from that, i think there’s a bit of a rescue mission occurring? in all honesty, i do not know where san & jongho are within the storyline for this mv. however, we can see that yeosang & seonghwa are in the same tunnel.. but not together. the elevator shot in the beginning is believed to show them going through time and same with the tunnel. which makes sense when you look at the updated ateez logo and the way it looks like it has a lot of lines that meet into the middle. aside from that, we have yunho staring at a bunch of tvs albeit they’re playing nothing we can see. then we have wooyoung.. all chained up and alone. it looks like nobody’s coming to save him the way hwa came to save yeosang and san. perhaps because he had betrayed them in hala hala? the staircase is also pretty important. i dont know the exact piece but i know it’s similar to an art piece that shows an endless staircase and continuous loop.. perhaps a hint at a continuous cycle in the storylines? seeing as this wonderland mv has gone up in flames, it looks like the next plan of action has to be to cross that bridge seen earlier. believed to have been the bridge between dystopia & utopia. 

in the utopia mv, there isn’t a lot of crazy storyline? it’s believed that once ateez walk across that bridge and through the door, they’re in utopia... or so they think. it’s mainly a lot of dancing and pretty shots, but the reoccurrence of smoke-filled rooms leading to rooms of oversaturation is back. the answer vcr before this comeback also show a lot of story. we see halateez and ateez facing off together once again with essentially.. the same question. we’ve spent this whole time believing that ateez are the good guys and halateez are the bad guys... but what if that wasn’t the case? sure, we see them as such but is that who they really are? each respective party holds up a mirror to the other asking “are you evil?” / “are you good?”. cut to the iconic intro of san on his knees.. almost like he’s the one having this war? almost like he’s trying to figure out the answer himself about if he is good or evil. 

the answer mv starts with a man in a white suit looking at the destruction of what was left behind of ateez/halateez. the move of san tipping over an overflowing wine glass.. it’s also thought like he’s turning the hourglass as well as if to start their timer once again. mingi is talking about how he sees that the end is near, but hongjoong brings up how we should finish as strong as we started until we get what we desired. it looks like wooyoung is walking in snow.. or is it the sand of time? i mean.. the hourglass was just tipped over wasn’t it? yeosang is seen alone in a red desert surrounded by broken glass. almost like he’s alone with no way out? speaking of mirrors, it’s also possible that ateez uses mirrors to travel through dimensions. like how san was staring at a member of halateez instead of himself in say my name? well.. yunho is surrounded by mirrors but cant seem to see anything but himself. he’s pretty frustrated about that. wooyoung is also seen in a room of butterflies. butterflies typical have a positive meaning of change, hope, transformation. we then get the icONIC AS HELL SHOT of halateez and ateez face to face at last at the table. as a repeated line entails, they’re making a toast to something. perhaps they have finally come to terms with each other and what to do so that they could exist peacefully as one? but maybe ateez has already done so much to one timeline that another had to be ruined? either way, an agreement was made between both hongjoong’s. at the end of the mv, we are greeted by the man in the white suit again... perhaps it’s another time traveler who knows about what ateez & halateez had done and was trying to stop them. no one knows who that is in all honesty. it’s believed that it might be one of the members. 

FEVER ERA (EP 6-8): 

PHEW OKAY UHHH.. honestly.. i say it’s crucial to watch this diary film at the very least. it explains this timeline of events now. halateez makes a brief appearance to hongjoong and the hourglass is back. poor hongjoong is tasked with finding everyone to bring them together once again. seemingly.. a fallout between friends.. another broken timeline. i feel as though it’s pretty explanatory on each individual backstory, but there is a lot more in depth things. like seonghwa crossing the line and breaking the rules. the endless loop of staircases being represented with san on the escalators as he recounts having to leave his friends again.  they all have their individual things that grounds them whenever theyre feeling lost, but they also had each other. i’m assuming that ateez from the treasure era managed to mess up this timeline of ateez causing them to drive everyone away from each other.. which is why halateez tasked hongjoong with the control of time. i mean, an hourglass holds a specific amount of time but you can manipulate it by turning it before it’s done or choosing to turn it way after it has finished. ultimately, the diary film shows 8 friends who broke off into 8 different paths when they weren’t suppose to and now they’re trying to find each other once again. 

we can see this in the inception mv. a lot of their dreams were broken and so they’re lost without it. ultimately.. they are lost again without each other and their dreams. 

hm.. im not too sure about thanxx. we see a parallel shot of ateez holding the flag like in wonderland. we see the theme of defiance once again. this song talks a lot about how they’re choosing to move on their own path despite what anyone says because who knows themselves better than .. themself. in this mv, they tease their song the real, which they performed on kingdom. 

SPEAKING OF KINGDOM.... EVERY STAGE HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THEIR STORYLINE. wave overtune showed the pirate route where something happened to hongjoong’s crew and he lost them all. similar to how hongjoong in inception/thanxx has lost them all. from the wonderland is showing WHAT happened to the crew, but this time they don’t lose. rhythm ta (the awakening of summer) has all of these past props (records, yeosang’s violin) being confiscated. this performance is inspired by money heist. AGAIN, we have the theme of government defiance. on the newspaper that wooyoung rips up, it shows that the govt had deemed halateez (Black Pirates) as terr0r1sts. initially, i was wondering if this is just a re-branded halateez but then i remembered.... ateez and halateez had that agreement. perhaps this is the original ateez and they’re doing their part of the deal in protecting halateez. which means stealing back all of the stuff that was stolen and removing evidence & calling for the people to turn against the govt. i see this as halateez turning ateez into a second version of them. especially because the stage ends with hongjoong punching the glass and retrieving the hourglass after putting on a halateez hat. 

in answer: ode to joy, it offers.. closure to the treasure era. kind of. we see yeosang in the glass case again looking at the man in white from answer. then it cuts to halateez seonghwa in the cage with yeosang & the two of them flipping the hourglass together. it’s like yunho tries to stop him, but is too late... which is when he starts facing off with the man in the white suit to distract him so that yeosang & halahwa can get away. we are once again greeted with halateez and ateez facing each other at the table directly mirroring each other. halasan is right behind him copying every move. i know.. yeosang’s bit has symbolism but i can’t remember.. but i know it’s suppose to be like he’s swimming? then during hongjoong’s part, we can see halateez assisting the members in each kingdom stage leading up to answer.. so it’s like showing that halateez (although not seen) has been orchestrating everything this whole time. 

this last bit is pretty major in the story. so it seen that san is praying in the middle of this entire fight.. and wooyoung tries stopping him. his efforts don’t work and san essentially sacrifices himself so that he could fight the man in the white suit alone. i feel like there are more.. perhaps.. 8? men in white suits given that san took down one, jongho was with another, and hongjoong was surrounded by them. it makes me believe that these white suits are again ateez from another timeline trying to stop them. halateez is giving ateez the crown.. as if passing off their power to them. but jongho throws it away instead of accepting it. at the end of all of this chaos.. ateez ultimately comes out on top and defeats both halateez and the white suits. 

OR SO THEY THOUGHT !! in the fireworks mv, they are seen in a dystopian society once again. if you remember, i had brought up smokey rooms often. reason being in the diary ver. of this album, there’s a part that goes into more detail about their story. i need to read into the theories for this era more but the smoke is very important. jongho recounts how he gets suffocated with a smoke that makes him see illusions and past events, but since it all feels so real it all just seems like DEJA VU.......... the dystopian society ateez are in for this mv... it’s smokey as hell. which is believed to be the smoke that causes such illusions but they’re able to break through it. i mean.. look at this teaser for the comeback.. looks way too colorful and peaceful. we don’t see this at all in the fireworks video.. SIKE. when ateez are walking around the dystopian wasteland (aka strictland), they’re in these nice suits. it’s almost like the effects of their illusion from the teaser was wearing off and they started waking up to the reality. and once they start seeing everything for what it is, they once again.. start creating havoc as they have in the past. this mv ends with the white suit man RETURNING ... and seeing the aftermaths of what ateez has done. he looks around as if he knows.. that it was them. 

in the dreamers mv.. again it has small symbolisms. jongho with the headphones (mingi’s headphones).. hongjoong with the small cube.. the spray cans like from halahala. but i dont know too much here. 

NOW.. WE HAVE DEJA VU AND ETERNAL SUNSHINE. we don’t have too much info on them right now since it hasnt been released.. bUT THE HOURGLASS IS BROKEN. the teaser they posted showed that the hourglass has been broken and essentially... all the timelines are broken. this leaves room for a lot of mixed up timelines. which is what people believe is the reason for the reoccurrence of similar hair colors from past eras on different members. we’re all getting deja vu from these repeated looks, no? eternal sunshine... it’s another super bright concept like illusion, thanxx, and celebrate. people are tying this to the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (i actually like this movie). in the movie, the couple gets a medical procedure to have their memories erase from each other. perhaps like how ateez had forgotten about each other?.. but in the movie, the main guy is trying REEEEALLY hard to get her back. which causes a mess in the timelines of their memories. things start repeating with countless acts of DEJA VU and things that just do not seem real. which again.. lines up to their story. 

SIDENOTES: 

first off.. if you read all of this, i love you. i never have been so invested in a story like this before and it genuinely is such an amazing storyline. 

there’s plenty i missed. like.. i didnt even talk about fever road but they have a couple things in there that elaborate on their friendship and everything. i also remembered their mama stage?? im p sure that had plot but i never.. looked  into that one. and not EVERYTHING ateez releases is releated obv.. unless KJK is the man in the white suit but i doubt it.

Tbh do whatever you feel most comfortable with! A class atmosphere does influence a lot towards the type of class you'll be taking, and I really dont wsnt you taking spanish with people who simply detest the class while it seems youd possibly enjoy german more with people who want to learn

Spanish isnt goung away and if you wanna keep practicing it you can always try getting into spanish media! I have some great recs for music and a few movies i adored. I can also text you in spanish from time to time to if you feel like it!

I say this from personal experience once i took an art class and i was the only one interested so even if i loved art it was horrible and I would have prefered the other elective even if it wasnt my strong suit
