Day 30: Original Pride Flag (Gilbert Baker) Bluntnose Sixgill Shark
ID in alt Click for higher quality
I chose to pair this flag with this shark because the bluntnose sixgill shark belongs to the oldest-known shark lineages. The original pride flag -created by Gilbert Baker in 1978 and commissioned by gay activist Harvey Milk- had 8 stripes (pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, indigo, and violet) instead of 6 (pink was removed for fabric shortages, and turquoise to make an even number). Although the 6-stripe version is the most popular and mainstream, I love this version the most, and like the shark, it is the oldest of it's kind.
🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜
THIS IS IT!!! Thank you all so much for the kind comments and support (especially on discord)! I loved doing this last year and loved it again this year, although I certainly had a lot more fun. Thank you to the goobers (you know who you are) for providing me with sharks (and for making me do this in the first place). Thanks to anyone who gave shark or flag requests! I hope you saw yourself in at least one of these ❤️
Collage of all the sharks is up! [Link]
Check my Instagram highlights (b33viemm) for all the June drawings from this year and last year. They're all also up here on Tumblr if you scroll down to June of 2023. Click this link -> #b33viemm art.

Here's the 5 striped ace flag I made last week so that I could have it line up with the aro and aroace flags if anyone wants it. I use off-white and off-black for editing purposes but you can change it if you want. If you share it online please copy and paste the image description below.
[ID: A version of the ace pride flag with five stripes of: Black, grey, white, light purple, and dark purple. End ID.]
edit: you can download the HD version from the Internet Archive here!
this is public domain in case I didn't make that clear enough.

Welcome to The Public Domain Transgender Lesbian Flag Project Blog
Hey, glad you could make it! Welcome to The Public Domain Transgender Lesbian Flag Project. Here, you will find all there is to know about the flag of every transgender lesbian that wants it.
Introduction: Why a flag for trans lesbians?
Simply put, some of us want a symbol that combines who we are with who we love. Some of us want specific visibility for this particular experience. Other communities, such as the aroace (aromantic asexual) community have dual identity flags, and some of us, people that are both transgender and lesbian, want a single symbol to represent that as an additional option.
Design: What should it look like?
For a flag to be usable and recognizable, it needs to keep certain things in mind. It needs to be simple, any symbols should have meaning, there should not be excessive colors or lettering, and it should be either distinctive or related.
First is simplicity. We want the flag to be able to be used everywhere, easily reproducible, and easy to manufacture, so it's going to have the common 3:5 Aspect Ratio. Next are the symbols, which in our case are the stripes. We think that what is commonly known as the "sunset lesbian flag" is one of the better flags out there and there's a 5 stripe variant of it, just like Monica Helms' trans flag. The only symbols on these are colors, so we will make our own colors by using these as a base (more on that in a bit) to represent both who we are and who we love. Since we want to keep things simple, we are going to keep it at 5 stripes. Finally, we are going to relate it to those 2 flags in 2 ways: we're going to make every stripe a different color like the sunset flag, but we are also going to for an arrangement that mimics the bars of the trans flag.
Colors: Putting analogous palettes to use.
When it was time to pick our colors, we went line by line to find analogous colors as a starting point. It's a good way to start, and ensure we are embracing both flags, but it ends up with something like this...
Issues arise including 3 colors that blend in too much with each other, even when separated, not being totally web friendly with some readers and extension, and some shades that are harder to acquire for those making flags at home. With some thoughtful tweaking though, we can solve things by moving from this
to this
and achieve much better separation.
We now have 5, bold, beautiful colors. When arranged to mimic the trans flag, it looks familiar from a distance, yet as one gets closer, one can appreciate the complement of all 5 colors, embracing some of the best qualities of the sunset flag.
The official RGB colors are as follows:
Grape: #6f2da8
Coral: #f88379
White: #ffffff
Tangerine: #ff9966
Iris: #5a4fcf
Meaning: Something to think about.
This is a public domain project and it belongs to everyone. Every transgender lesbian has had a different journey, different challenges, and different experiences, so the greater meaning of the design is one of embracing our identity as transgender lesbians, embracing who we are and who we love, regardless of where we are on our journey in life.
That being said, here is one interpretation, the interpretation of the blog keeper, no more or less valid than yours.
Grape: Femininity, and our ability embrace as much or as little as we want of it, on our own terms.
Coral: Independence, confidence, and non-conformity. Nobody gets to tell us who we are, and we are strong and can stand on our own when we choose to.
White: Love in all of its wonderful ways. Love for ourselves, for being who we are. Love for our partners, and the experiences we share.
Tangerine: The community we hold dear through chosen family and sisterhood.
Iris: The journeys we have taken and the journeys yet to come, whether it be concerning our gender or otherwise.
Public Domain: This is our flag.
This flag belongs to you. Unlike some other pride flags, there are no royalties, no limits to its use, and no requirement to give anyone credit for the work.
We at The Public Domain Transgender Lesbian Flag Project release this flag irrevocably to the public domain!
If you consider yourself to be a person who is transgender and a lesbian and want to use it, this is your flag; there shall be no gatekeeping here!

PRIDE FLAG RATINGS
This post is for FUN AND WHIMSY ONLY and my ratings are based on how much I like each flag as a flag, not on how I feel about the community it represents or the flag's creator(s). Under the cut!
GILBERT BAKER'S ORIGINAL PRIDE FLAG: Gorgeous. Stunning. Beautiful. 10/10.
STANDARD RAINBOW PRIDE FLAG: It's missing a little something-something, but it's still pretty dang good. 8/10.
PROGRESS PRIDE FLAG (WITH INTERSEX FLAG): An affront to good taste everywhere. The worst pride flag ever made. 0/10.
PROGRESS PRIDE FLAG (W/O INTERSEX FLAG): Significantly less terrible, and yet still terrible. Please, Progress Pride Flag designers, take a single design class, I'm begging you. Also, the name rubs me the wrong way. It seems to imply that the original rainbow flag is somehow not progressive. Do not like. 1/10.
PINK MONSTROSITY LESBIAN FLAG: Ugly as hell. Way too pink. Also, not a fan of how it's Pink Because Women. 3/10.
LABRYS LESBIAN FLAG: It's purple and it's got an axe on it. What more can I say? 7/10.
EMILY GWEN'S LESBIAN FLAG: Huge improvement over the Pink Monstrosity. The sunrise/sunset vibe is nice and the colors go well together. Still not a fan of the Pink Because Women implications, though. 6/10.
GAY MALE FLAG: Ugly as hell. The turquoise doesn't work at all. And, you guessed it, not a fan of how it's Blue Because Men. Also, totally pointless? Just use the rainbow flag! 3/10.
BEAR FLAG: Sure. Why not. It's got a big ole paw on it and the colors look decently nice together, even if the color choice is a little more "REI" than "pride flag". 6/10.
BISEXUAL FLAG: The gradient is a cool concept and gives it a nice sunset feel. But the shade of purple used here is hideously ugly. It completely disrupts the gradient and flow of the flag. 4/10.
PANSEXUAL FLAG: Not bad. My complaint about the gendered use of pink and blue stands. But the colors are all nice shades. Good colors for a parrot at any rate. 6/10.
TRANSGENDER FLAG: The pink and blue problem is really egregious with this one. And I don't love the use of pastels, it feels twee. But it's not actively ugly. 4/10.
NONBINARY FLAG: Absofuckinglutely not. Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done. 2/10.
GENDERQUEER FLAG: It's ugly and the colors don't go well together at all, but I suppose it could be worse (see: the nonbinary flag). 3/10.
INTERSEX FLAG: Kind of a bizarre color combo, but it's a nice departure from all the stripes. 6/10.
ASEXUAL FLAG: Handsome, sleek, and simple. Sometimes less is more. 8/10.
OLD AROMANTIC FLAG: So ugly it's awesome. I unironically love this flag. 7/10.
NEW AROMANTIC FLAG: Not particularly good, but not interesting enough to be bad. The beige of pride flags. 5/10.
AROACE FLAG: Genuinely beautiful. A sunrise over the ocean. 10/10.

I got a question, I know I'm in the aro spectrum but I wanna know if it's correct to say that I'm pansexual, because I do feel attracted to people but not in a romantic way
It's confusing
yes! there's a few things that might help here:
you may or may not be familiar with the Split Attraction Model, or SAM: at its most basic, this is the idea that there are different types of attraction, and typically is used in reference to people identifying with a romantic orientation, such as aromantic, and a sexual orientation, such as pansexual.
in addition, some individuals are aromantic and asexual, but feel some form of tertiary attraction (where everything else gets lumped due to the original purposes of this model), and use the label oriented aroace to describe their feelings. for example, pan aroace.
if you identify as aro and allosexual (ie, not asexual): alloaro and aroallo are both terms used by the broader community, and there is a flag for that!
cw for discussions of alloarophobia in the next paragraph:
I do want to caution: there is a lot of stigma around alloaro identities. These stigma typically come from a sex-negative (ie: sex is inherently immoral / "bad") viewpoint, and unfortunately, it is often best to be cautious when talking to others about your identity if you are sensitive to that. the majority of people who believe sex (possibly with some specific exceptions, typically religious) is immoral do not care about queerness beyond labeling anything we do predatory and bad, and unfortunately being alloaro is especially demonized for being, in their eyes, exactly about having all of that "immoral" sex. don't engage with them on these topics unless you feel confident in deescalation tactics and comfortable attempting deradicalization work. you don't owe them your time or explanations.
ID: the alloaro flag. 5 horizontal stripes from top to bottom: green, light green, white, light yellow, dark yellow. the greens are identical to that of the aromantic flag.
for completeness - if you identify as aro-spec and ace-spec: you may like the term amid for yourself!
ID: the amid flag. 5 horizontal stripes from top to bottom: dark gray, light gray, white, light blue, dark blue.
if you identify as aro-spec and ace: acemid has your back.
ID: the acemid flag. 5 horizontal stripes from top to bottom: fuchsia, light fuchsia, white, light blue, dark blue. the bottom 3 stripes are identical to the amid flag, and the fuchsia is a slightly more saturated hue of the asexual pride flag purple.
and last but not least, aromantic and ace-spec: aromid.
ID: the aromid flag. 5 horizontal stripes from top to bottom: green, light green, white, light blue, and dark blue. The top two stripes are the aromantic flag's greens, and the blues are identical to that of the amid and acemid flags.

crochet hat very basic pattern that you can color in to figure out where to put stripes. Public domain images. They'll be uploaded to the beloved Internet Archive once they're fully functional again. You are explicitly encouraged to download and share these.
Every row ends with slip stitching to close and then chaining two to start the next one but I Forgot to put that in.
Pro tip: Have more rows of the same color towards the top than at the bottom if it's only going to show up once, otherwise it will get drowned out.
[ID: A black and white diagram of a beanie separated into eighteen stripes, with arrows on each section giving the instructions to crochet it. Stripe 1, at the top center of the hat: "Ch3, double crochet 8 times into first chain. Slip stitch to close (S S T C)." An arrow points from this to a simple diagram of three circles representing chain stitches, with a hook at the top with a loop of yarn around it, and another arrow pointing from the hook down to the first chain. The chains are colored in with teal circles. Next to the instructions is a teal circle with eight sections in it. Stripe 2: "DC 2 times in each stitch. S S TC." In teal below this are two V shapes to indicate two stitches into the same spot. Stripe 3: Dc 1 time, then two times, repeating". In teal is a straight line and a V. Stripe 4: DC 1, 1, 2, repeating. The teal shows two straight lines, then a V. Stripe 5: DC 1, 1, 1, 2, repeating. The teal has three lines and then a V. Stripe 6: DC 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, repeating. The teal shows four lines and then a V. Stripe 8 through 18: DC one time, repeating, until hat is desired length. The teal now only shows straight lines, and an arrow points all the way to the bottom of the hat. End ID.]
some quickly thrown together pride flag templates from whatever colors I happened to have on my phone:
[ID: 12 versions of the same image as above, the same except that text has been added on the side reading, "18 row example. 5mm hook, size 4 yarn.", and each hat is now colored in stripes of a differen pride flag, in vaguely alphabetical order. The first is the asexual flag, with the first 6 stripes in black, the next 4 in grey, the next 4 in white, then the last 4 in purple. Then the aromantic flag, with the first 5 stripes in dark green, then the next 4 in light green, then the next 3 in white, the next 3 in grey, and the final 3 in black. Next is the aroace flag, with the first 5 stripes in orange, the next 4 in yellow, the next 3 in white, 3 light blue, and 3 navy blue. Then the bi flag, with the first 9 stripes in dark blue, then 5 in purple, then the last 4 in reddishpink. Next is the intersex flag, with the first 7 stripes in gold, then 3 dark purple, then the remaining stripes in gold. Next is the lesbian flag with the first 4 stripes in reddishpink, then 4 light pink, 4 pale yellow, 3 light purple, and 3 very dark blue. Next is the nonbinary flag, with 5 stripes of yellow, 4 stripes of white, 5 stripes of purple, and 4 stripes of black. Next is the pan flag, with 6 stripes of bubblegum pink, 6 stripes of gold, and 5 stripes of light blue. Next is the quoiromantic flag, with 6 stripes of black, 4 stripes of lime green, 4 stripes of light blue, and 4 stripes of light grey. Next is the pride flag, with 3 stripes each of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Next is the progress trans flag, with 5 stripes of purple, 3 stripes of black, 2 stripes of blue, 2 stripes of pink, 2 stripes of white, 2 stripes of yellow, and 2 stripes of brown. The last is the pastel xenogender flag, with 4 stripes of pinkishred, 2 stripes of pastel pink, 3 stripes of pastel orange, 2 stripes of pale yellow, 2 stripes of light blue, 2 stripes of light purple, and 3 stripes of dark purple. End ID.]
pride flags with fewer shades of the same color are easier to make. A lesson for flag makers everywhere. Good luck trying to find all the shades necessary to make the pastel xenogender flag. I have yet to accomplish it. This is also why gradient flags are just. a bad idea if you want people to actually be able to make it outside of computers.
I used a 5mm crochet hook with aproximately size 4 yarn since that's what I got for free.

The Pride of June: Asexuality
Todays art piece was created by @rainbowangel110. Please go check out her blog and support her art!
The Asexual Flag is the Flag used to describe someone who experiences little to no sexual attraction. This IS NOT the same as aromantic. Someone who is Asexual can still feel the desire to have romantic relationships.
Fun History Fact: The first ever Asexual conference was held in London in 2012. And a year later the DSM 5 changed to define asexuality as an orientation rather than a mental disorder.
Tumblr User: @rainbowangel110, @imhumanguysiswear, @dreamondelphinus and @boilinghotsoupandcrackers (who is aroace)
Media Character: Todd Chaves (Bojack Horseman), Lilith Clawthorne (The Owl House), and Issac Henderson (Heartstopper)
Why the colors? The black stripe represents asexuality, the grey stripe representing the grey-area between sexual and asexual, the white stripe sexuality, and the purple stripe community.
Where can I find the calendar? The calendar is my pinned post on my blog @hecateisalesbian! This will be occurring all throughout June, and tags such as #The Pride of June and #PoJ Project can be used to find my post

AAA3 (Aromantic Asexual Agender) Flag.
Here is a third 5-striped (pentastriped?) AAA design. Amber and Indigo come from merging the orangish & bluish sections of the popular “sunset” AroAce flag and tweaking them to be equidistant on the color wheel from agender’s central green stripe. This harmony creates a pleasing balanced design but the colors need some adjustment still. Symbolic meaning attributed to the colors from related flags could include:
Amber(-orange) - Aromantic spectrum, connection & community
Green - Agender spectrum, neutrality & unity
Indigo(-blue) - Asexual spectrum, perception & identity
Black - “A” - spectrum , integration & totality
Amber and Indigo are tertiary colors equidistant from green on the color wheel and blend into the neighboring hues orange and blue. These three equally spaced colors represent each of the A’s in the triple-A flag. The original aromantic flag had an amber/orange stripe which was later replaced with light green. Indigo is the complement to amber and is the neighboring color to violet which traditionally represents asexuality and could have a similar meaning here.
Expanding this basic 5 stripe form creates 9-striped and 7-striped versions.
9-striped AAA flag.
IR(Black) | Amber | Yellow | Lime | Green | Cyan | Blue | Indigo | UV(Black)
Adding yellow, lime, cyan and blue make a gentle tertiary color gradient balanced on neutral green. Color theory wise, green is perfectly positioned as the central color as it is neutral - dividing warm colors from cool ones. Green is also holds the central position in royGbiv & other electromagnetic spectra.
Below is the 7-striped version with lime + yellow merged into chartreuse yellow and cyan + blue merged to azure blue.
7-striped AAA flag.
IR(Black) | Amber | Chartreuse yellow | Green | Azure blue | Indigo | UV(Black)
This simplified version works as well as the 9 striped one in conveying balance and cohesion since the colors are equidistant and analogous.
I liken rainbow-like flags to electromagnetic spectra and usually add an infrared band above and an ultraviolet band below to indicate expansiveness and awareness of different modes of perception. This can be conflated with the black stripes of the agender flag. Plus the black just creates a nice aesthetic frame.

the secondary prompts for each day are based on the meanings behind gilbert baker’s original pride flag stripes, so feel free to incorporate them in any way that is meaningful to you!
if you’d like, we’re also including “flags” as an overarching theme for the week!
rules/info:
make sure to tag #spnprideweek or @/spnprideweek so we can see your amazing works!
each day has two themes- you can incorporate both into one piece, create two separate pieces, or choose one theme to focus on!
you can participate in as many or as few days as you want
creations can include fics, art, amvs, etc- however you want to celebrate and get creative
headcanons and canon are both welcome!
in addition to the prompts listed above, this entire week our blog will be open for you tell us your queer or gender-related stories! these can range from personal anecdotes to how the show and/or its characters helped with your coming out or understanding yourself, or anything else that you feel comfortable sharing. we’ll be posting these all week, so feel free to send us an ask (either on anon or off), submission, or tag us in your posts!
no incest of any kind will be accepted. we will also not be reblogging any rpf or nsfw, as minors do follow and participate in this event.
if you have any questions, feel free to send us an ask!
On Kaia/dreamhunter:
Because of the harmful, racist and colonialist stereotpyes inherent in the creation and writing of Kaia (in the narrative of dreamhunter by extension), spnprideweek does not support Kaia/dreamhunter-based content made by non-indigenous creators and will not be reblogging any to our page. Please see this post and the resources therein for information on why this is a necessary step to take. We hope as always that our community will act accordingly to create a welcoming and safe space for everyone.
have fun and happy pride!
