It's cool to see Paul Kupperberg wrote a two page long note explaining the story behind this comic. It's nice to learn the backstory of both the book and the book's storyline. I don't read a lot of these sword and sorcery style books, but Arion is apparently my one exception. Wizardry and the history of Ancient Atlantis? It's fascinating. (Arion, Lord of Atlantis #1):

Atlantean Danny
The Crown Prince of Atlantis
Time travel was something Danny would do from time to time. Sometimes it was a mission; other times it was just fun. This one was done with the help of the Frostbite map to find Atalantis. It wasn't the sunken one, but the one in myth, so it worked!
The King of Atalantis, Arion, smiled as he talked to Danny. The Lords of Order, as they exist in the Past, present, and future, had told him about Phantom; he was part of his future bloodline, which means his blood and Atalantis will exist for many years.
While watching Danny and spending time with the people of Atlantis.
The Lords of Order talked with him about this Hero, who seemed overjoyed as they heard he was of his bloodline. And told him that Danny would be a worthy heir to his crown, the magical circlet they once gave him as their next agent.
Arion heard about the "Prophecy of the One True King" and knew what it would mean if Danny took the crown. But he could see Atlantis would do well with Danny as ruler; the people already loved him for the short time he was here, and with the help of the Lords of Order, he would be a wise ruler.
He started to tell Danny about the Lord of Order and similar things. At first, Danny showed mistrust, but after a talk with Clockwork, Frostbite, and Pandora, he was willing to hear more. Pandora told him she wanted to meet Arion again; it had been a long time since he "visited". Arion wasn't sure what he meant, but it seemed like something he did in the afterlife, and he would remember it.
Danny learned how to use a Trident! It was made by the blacksmith because they didn't want him to be without a Weapon. The Trident he got was beautiful. The tip of the trident is silver in color, and a blue and purple fin-like covering can be found near the tip and the bottom. The handle of the trident has a dark blue color. (Shuumatsu Poseidon's Trident) Danny didn't use it often, but he loved the gift from the Old Smith.
After one of his adventures, Danny asked his ancestor if he should meet Atlantis in his world. Arion gave him a magical way to find his crown in the Future and told him to find and wear it before he went to Atlantis.
Back in the Present
It didn't take Danny long to find himself in the Undersea with Arion's crown in his hands, and the Lords of Order told him, like Arion, to just put on the circlet on his head. So now he could hear the Lords of Order, and they told him the way to Atlantis, and Danny was loving it already! Even as Human he could breath underwater but now he could stay under the Ocean!
While the city was beautiful on land, being sacked under the Ocean gave it a much different, out-of-this-world beauty. What Danny didn't notice was how the people in Atantis looked at the crown! And the magic that came out of him was the magic of the royal family of Atantis.
Few already thought he was an illegitimate child. They only had two Princes whose ages would work. But was it King Orin or Prince Orm?

Okay meme for people to take their mind off today.
If you have a To Be Read list/pile (comics, books, whatever):
What title(s) are you currently reading?
My current books are Shades of Milk and Honey by Mary Robinette Kowal and The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers.
The comic titles I’m reading right now are a reread of The Gotham War.
What title(s) are up next on your reading list?
I am eagerly anticipating Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers, in terms of books.
I have the Monkey Prince trades from the library, so they just rocketed up my list.
And I’m also planning to finish Gotham Nocturne, Nightwing #111-118, Catwoman #59-68 and Poison Ivy #22-28.
What title(s) are your emotional support TBRs and you’re planning to get around to them. One day. When the stars align?
My bedside table currently has Pemulwuy by Eric Willmot, Circe by Madeline Miller, and Magnificat by Julian May sitting on it. Only Magnificat is a reread.
In terms of comics, I actually file much of my ‘I’m meaning to get to you’ list that I can’t always hold  in my head in the Favourite Comic Series list on DCUI and remove them when I finish them. Currently this contains: Arion, Lord of Atlantis; Batman: The Imposter; Swamp Thing: New Roots; Swamp Thing Winter Special; Swamp Thing 2000; Swamp Thing 2016; The Swamp Thing 2021; Birds of Prey 2020; Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey; Nubia: Queen of the Amazons; Nubia & The Amazons; The Legend of Wonder Woman; 52; Crime Bible: the Five Lessons of Blood; Batman: Gordon’s Law; L.A.W. (Living Assault Weapons); Artemis: Requiem; John Constantine: Hellblazer; Far Sector; Zatanna 2010; All-Star Superman; Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld 1985; Green Arrow/Black Canary; Let Them Live! Unpublished Tales from the DC Vault’ Adventure Comics 2009; and Teen Titans 2003.
Which is a bit of a mix.
Have you taken anything out of your TBR pile recently, and why?
I am giving myself grace and allowing myself not to bother going back to attempting to read the various Super Sons titles right now.
I’m going to tag @havendance, @androxys, @theaudientvoid, @the-batacombs, @tallochar, @scintillyyy, @late-night-dreamings, @mintchocochipsposts, @avayarising, @kara-zor-els and generally anyone else who wants to join in.

Sorcerer Supreme Family
Within the context of the DC Universe, three characters have been hailed under that title and were actually related to one another.
Calculha: Also known as the Ancient One, he is actually a deity embodying light and goodness who originated from Darkworld, which is currently a piece of the Great Darkness in the form of a cosmic creature whose body doubles as a dimension & their dreams oddly generates magic (complex weird shit amirite?) He’s the earliest, if not first, explicit Sorcerer Supreme in DC.
Arion: One of the two twin sons of Calculha & his wife and equal, Dark Majistra. His history differs in continuity but Arion is commonly a demigod, Lord of Order, & ruler of Atlantis whose magic skills rivals Nabu. In addition, he is the ancestor of the current Royal Family of Atlantis.
Zatanna: Most people already are familiar with this backwards casting sorceress but many aren’t aware that she is both the official Sorceress Supreme in DC & she is related to Arion & Calculha both through her mother’s (NOT Giovanni Zatara) side.

[RERUN] Crisis on Infinite Earths, Issue 2: “Time and Time Again” (Shit gets weird(er))
Tumblr media
[All images are owned by DC Comics. Please don’t sue me]
PREVIOUSLY ON…
Universes are disintegrating at an alarming rate, on Earth-3, Lex Luthor (a super hero; yeah, figure that one out) sent his son Alexander into the multiverse to Earth-1 before his universe died (similar to Jor-El sending his son into space), and a being known as the Monitor and his assistant Harbinger have gathered a pretty random (if Earth-1 heavy) group of heroes and villains (presumably to deal with this)
Does that make sense? Good. Cuz things only get weirder from here. If you would like to read this issue, it (along with the rest of the series) has been collected in graphic novel form and is available (or can be ordered) at your favorite comic shop, bookstore, or online retailer…or on Read Comic Online.
[A word of warning: if you thought Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame was too hard to follow due to the sheer number of characters on screen at once, you will not be enjoying yourself, as Crisis uses the entire roster (heroes and villains) from multiple eras and universes to tell the story. Even a long-time DC fan as myself doesn’t recognize everyone they used!
You have been warned.]
Tumblr media
We open on the dawn of man (we’ll assume this is Earth-1). A bunch of mammoths stampede through…a 30th century city. The Legion of Super Heroes show up to keep the mammoths from hurting anyone, only the mammoths disappear.
Must be a Monday.
Tumblr media
Next we turn to modern (well, modern for the comic, so 1985) Earth-1′s Gotham City. Batman shows up to stop the Joker’s latest caper, only to have the Flash mysteriously appear and disintegrate before Batman’s eyes. I’m guessing the Joker escaped while Batman watched his friend become a pile of dust and disappear like the above mammoths did.
Just a typical day in Gotham.
Tumblr media
And just in case you thought I forgot, we now return to the Monitor’s satellite, where the Monitor lays out his plan: the group is to guard 5 pillars in different eras…so 3 beings per pillar? Doesn’t seem like good odds. Oh, there are others in those eras that can be recruited to help.  So why didn’t the Monitor bring them in too?
Then we switch to Oa, home to the Guardians of the Universe (no, not Galaxy…Universe! Star Lord is a Marvel character) just in time to see the giant power battery that gives the Green Lanterns their power explode. Wow, it’s gonna suck to be John Stewart shortly.
Meanwhile, in Earth-1′s Metropolis, Batman tells Superman about the Flash, just in time to see Pariah appear and vanish (hmmm, isn’t Earth-1 supposed to disintegrate before Pariah leaves? Apparently Pariah’s getting lazy. I blame video games)
Tumblr media
Next we go to the Planet of the Apes “The Great Disaster”, in which animals have become intelligent and hunt humans, home to Kamandi “the last boy on Earth” (maybe he should find “the last girl on Earth” so that he can change his moniker) One of the Monitor’s pillars is there, as is Superman, Dawnstar, and Solovar (in this era? Komandi must love that!) The shadow beings are there as well, and the four attempt to defend the tower.
Back on modern Earth-1, on the Justice League’s defunct satellite known as the Watchtower (the League is currently operating in a cave near Detroit. Yes, they’ve gone a bit downhill), Harbinger is sent by the monitor to retrieve Earth-3′s Lex Luthor’s infant son.
Tumblr media
However, the trip through the multiverse changed the infant Alexander Luthor into an adolescent, and into the fourth series-centric character.
The next pillar is to be found in ancient Atlantis (at least Arion will be home?) Arion is joined by Obsidian and Psycho Pirate. While Arion catches up with his people, Psycho Pirate wanders off (because no one thought to keep an eye on the villain that can change and feed off of others’ emotions) and runs into Pariah (that boy does have knack of randomly showing up)
Tumblr media
Psycho Pirate decides to have fun with Pariah’s emotions until Arion shows up. Psycho Pirate then turns his powers on Arion until a mysterious beam teleports the Pirate away.
Tumblr media
We then hear the voice of the fifth series-centric character (who we assume is the Big Bad), who Psycho Pirate threatens until the voice turns the Pirate’s powers on himself, cowing the Pirate into submission (and sorta-kinda obedience).
Meanwhile, back in Atlantis, the wave of white begins, signaling Earth-1′s doom!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile on the Monitor’s satellite, it is revealed that the Big Bad has influence over Harbinger.
(a MUCH better cliffhanger than issue 1 had!)
CAN the monitor’s pillars save the multiverse?
WHY does the Big Bad want Psycho Pirate?
WILL any of this ever make sense?
These and more questions will be answered in the next exciting issue!

YJ Season 4 Arc Rankings Part 1
Since it’s almost been a year since Phantoms ended here’s my personal ranking of the arcs for that season
 spoilers ahead
 #6- Kaldur‘s  Arc
Tumblr media
To me this arc just felt kinda slow and not very necessary as it didn’t tie in with the over all plot of the season. It felt like it’s job was to just justify the extra history lesson we got on Vandal Savage on how he’s also the father to Atlanteans and the whole story with King Arion. The story was slow because it took unit the third ep for them to actually go on a mission to find the lost crown and that felt kinda basic of mission with the only real threat that they faced was a giant fish. I think most things just solved themselves and there wasn’t a lot of big change that happen that would impact the rest of the season. I don’t think much will change with Mera being the new king of Atlantis I think she will have similar policy's as her husband did.I did like how they brought up wealth inequality in the different kingdoms of Atlantis and getting to see La’gaan family as well as seeing him show regret over Conor’s death. We love a fish boy that can show growth yayy.😊 And our boy Kaldur finally learned to take a break and sit at home with his boyfriend.
Kalder gets a 4/10
#5-Zatanna’s Arc
Tumblr media
Zantanna definitely had a lot more going on with her arc with two chaos lords fighting, another Vandal Savage history lesson, and the origins of the magic school bus. To me the story of Klarion and Vandal meeting was so funny, like Klarion just killed him over and over for a year until Valdal said “wait, I think we can be business partners”. I understand why Nabu hates his dad when he completely ignored his advice not to work with the kid that sunk a continent and killed millions the last time they hung out.😒 I was pretty hyped to see the phantom Stanger and everyone favorite rhyming demon Etrigan but Etrigan only got to be in one fight and he was just used as a distraction. I felt like Zantanna also had one too many apprentices, just along with the other magic users we met it felt a little crowded. I thought it was intreating how they brought religion into it with Kahlid trying to find the balance between magic, medicine, and his Islamic faith. Giovanni being the Italian man that he is held strong to his Catholic faith but idk if he should of did the Lord’s prayer in found of Nabu who was born in 1,836 BCE. I like that the fight between child and Klarion was so big that other heroes had to come to pick up the pieces and now we got 4 new doctor fates on ration and Zantanna can finally hug her dad again. RIP to Teekl #1 long live Teekl #2
Zantanna gets a 6/10
 #4 -Artemis’s Arc
Tumblr media
This was really close between Artemis’s Arc and Zantanna Arc but I’m getting the high ranking to Artemis. This arc had hard act to follow with Conor dying in just the ep before. I think this arc did really good with showing how Artemis was dealing with the grief of losing another team member and how she copes by helping others. But girl idk if you can get away with saying that Conor was like a brother to you when everyone on the mind link heard you checking him out. I also really like how we got to look at Jade and Artemis relationship and their childhood together and we see more of how Jade really did care for Artemis. We also see Jade struggle with wanting to be a good mom and being an assassin. But she ain’t the only ninja mom as we see Lady Shiva try to get her daughter back and I really need a season 5 so I can see Talia al Ghul eat her words about not giving up Damian. I don’t have much of an option on them changing Barbara Gordon story on how she end up in a wheelchair. I did like how they brought back Cassandra Savage and I was really questioning if she was gonna turn on her dad or not. Onyx was just kinda there but it was good to have her there to question if Cassandra was legit or not. I do wish they would of just let Jada go back to Will and Lian instead of going to therapy island with Jason Todd and Onyx. I think it would just clean up the loose ends of her story more and it would feel more complete for her to find peace with her family. Also finding out that Artemis’s new boyfriend is 31 is kinda a trip when you realize he was 21 when she was 15 in season 1.
Artemis gets a 6.5/10

Who's Who In The DC Universe #1: Arak, Arcane, Arion
Arak, Son of Thunder by Ernie Colon
Arak Red-Hand (Bright-Sky-Alter-Storm) was a shaman of the Quontauka tribe.
He was taken by the Vikings to medieval Europe (8th Century) where he journeyed with his captors until settling out on his own
Arak battled in the defense of the court of Carolus Magnus (aka Charlemagne) in central Europe
He was slain in battle and his spirit rose to meet He-No, the Quontauka’s God of Thunder, a spirit-being who is also his father
Resurrected on earth, Arak is now a “mystical shaman surviving in a world only beginning to understand science.
I have not read any appearances of Arak. A quick google search indicates the Quontauka tribe is a creation of DC Comics. Hé-no is a thunder spirit of the Iroquois and Seneca people. The Iroquois and Seneca tribes were in New York and Pennsylvania so it would make sense for the fictional Quontauka to be in the same area.
Arak is an example of the differences between pre-Crisis DC and Marvel. Marvel remained firmly in the “superhero/villain” lanes with a small subset of horror and comics. DC went all over the place with their creations and concepts. Marvel sold more but DC was the true “House of Ideas”.
Arcane by Steve Bissette & John Tottleben
Scientist/Alchemist Anton Arcane discovered the secret of immortality.
His body had grown too old to take advantage of immortality so he sought to create an artificial body to house his spirit.
The Un-Men were the result of these experiments, “misshapen but incredibly loyal creatures, who would assist their master in his quest for an alternate body.
The quest resulted in a confrontation with Swamp Thing that ended with Arcane falling to his death.
The Un-Men “repaired” Arcane’s broken body, transforming him into a hulking monstrosity.
Arcane went Round 2 with Swamp Thing and was left a disassembled corpse, buried in the Louisiana Bayou
The Un-Men resurrected Arcane as a half-human/half-insect cyborg.
Round 3 with Swamp Thing ended with Arcane’s physical form destroyed.
Arcane is now a disembodied spirit, imprisoned in the darkest reaches of Hell.
Anton Arcane is the uncle of Abigail Arcane, the love interest of Swamp Thing.
Arcane is a prime example of why you shouldn’t search for immortality. He’s one of the creepiest characters in the DC Universe. Body horror for everyone! Alan Moore began his run on Swamp Thing in 1983 (if you haven’t read Moore’s run, you should, it’s fantastic). Arcane makes his return in Moore’s run. I’m not sure if his return has happened before or after Who’s Who #1 was published. If it was before, DC could have omitted the details as Arcane’s return storyline was rather horrific for an all-ages publication. Poor, poor Abby.
I’m not sure if Arcane has made any non-Swamp Thing appearances but he’s guaranteed to play a role in the various Swamp Thing series and adaptations.
Arion, Lord of Atlantis by Jan Duursema
Arion’s base of operations is noted as “Civilization of Atlantis – 45,000 years ago
100,000 years “before the story of Arion began”, Calculha and Majistra had two children: Ari’ahn and Garn
Calculha followed the Light (magic) and raised Ari’ahn
Majistra, mistress of the Dark (magic), raised Garn
The brothers became mortal enemies
Majistra obtained the Twelve Crystals of the Zodiac
Majistra attempted to kill Calculha but Ari’ahn sacrificed himself to prevent his father’s death
Ari’ahn was turned into pure energy, becoming one with the crystals
Calculha sent what remained of his son to the stars
Garn was stripped of all color and learned to hate with all his soul (I’m guessing this a reference to magical abilities but it’s possible Garn became an albino in this confrontation)
Garn studied sorcery and became a master of it over the centuries (are the Light/Dark abilities different from magic?)
Garn threatened Atlantis as the great Ice Age began.
Calculha, from his self-imposed exile in the Darkworld dimension, brought his son, now called Arion, back from the heavens
Arion became the protector of Atlantis and battled his brother many times
When Frostfire, the Ice Queen, was held the captive of the Light, Arion sacrificed most of his magic to save her
He is now a mortal man with limited magical abilities
The only Arion appearances I’ve read were during the post-Crisis era when DC tried to connect Power Girl to Atlantis. DC wanted Superman to be the sole remaining Kryptonian in the aftermath of the Crisis of Infinite Earths. Supergirl was killed during the Crisis while Earth-2 Superman, Earth-2 Superman was exiled to a hidden dimension, etc. Both were erased from continuity and forgotten by the residents of the DC Universe. Power Girl remained in the continuity but needed a new origin. Instead of the obvious solution of making Power Girl a Daxamite, DC attached Karen to Atlantis, descended from Arion. I don’t remember the explanation for how Karen, now descended from a magical Atlantean bloodline, still had the Kryptonian power set. If I remember correctly, Arion reappeared when Kara mysteriously became pregnant by an unknown baby daddy. I don’t remember the details for that either. I do know there was fan speculation the father would be Hal Jordan and that would have been much more enjoyable than the garbage that was dished out. The early to mid 90’s were a tough time for Power Girl.

Although I do like the Arion comics, i've been struggling to focus on them lately. So I think I'm going to go back to reading the Blue Devil comics tomorrow, after I get home from school. If I make it to school, that is. (Arion, Lord of Atlantis #5):

Super Special Double Warlord Week!
That's right, we're doubling up on Skartaris this week as there was an annual and I didn't realise till I was already reading my weekly. And oh my god is the annual a doozy as far as Skartaris mythology goes.
The Warlord Annual #2: Travis fights lizard-dogs alongside a new guy, Krystovar, and gets bitten! Their bite is poisonous! (Actually probably venomous but Cary Burkat doesn't know the difference)
His new friend tells us a tale of Ancient Atlantis! This is Skataris-linked Ancient Atlantis, remember, which doesn't necessarily match Arion Atlantis or Aquaman Atlantis.
Travis' fancy helmet is the same as those worn by the leader of the Knights of the Order of the Sea-Eagle in Ancient Atlantis. They had flying 'swan ships'.
Some of the Ancient Atlanteans, fleeing the decadent Sorceror-Kings of Atlantis, followed ley lines 'in tune' with Atlantis and found Skartaris.
They set up a colony, 'New Atlantis', in the tunnels between Skartaris and the outside world.
Also there are TWO SEPARATE groups who moved from Atlantis to Skartaris - firstly these noble warriors under Lord Norrad, and then secondly the mage-scientists who had nuclear bombs after they blew up the city with atomic warfare under Prince Ar-Diamphos (have I mentioned how much I love kooky old conspiracy theories in this story enough times yet?).
We find out that there was a war in New Atlantis between these two factions and descendants of Prince Ar-Diamphos (who is as noted one of the evil mage-kings) are still ruling New Atlantis to this day, turning prisoners and slaves into animal headed people via magic as punishment. The transformed people are called The Brood Brothers.
Krystovar and Travis then get set upon by The Brood. They get captured, tied to poles, and we are back into classic bondage territory.
Tumblr media
What a shame. How awful. I'm sorry you're apparently not having a good time here Travis. Don't worry, you get chained to a support post in a ship shortly. They escape from the ship, Travis dives into the water and gets caught in a whirlpool that sucks him under, and follows glowing rocks to a mystery tunnel.
The tunnel leads...to one of the high tech Ancient Atlantean military bases. They had UFOs.
Tumblr media
Travis steals a flying sled with a swan prow that fires lasers and heads off to rescue his new friend Krystovar, which he manages. They both steal a boat and escape together.
Also we find an even weirder mystery from the underground stockpile above here:
Tumblr media
The US Air Force have a connection to ancient Atlantis and Skartaris? Dun dun DUNNNNN!
The Warlord #74: this week in Skartaris we are leaving...NEW ATLANTIS!!!!
Tumblr media
Travis decides it's time to head back to Shamballah, but not before asking Krystovar here the question on everyone's lips: how are there so many different types of Ancient Atlanteans in Skartaris?!? (Well, everyone being me, but you know).
This was Krystovar's answer: Ancient Atlantis consisted of seven kingdoms. Skartarians are descended from the Kingdom of Hallenia. New Atlantis evil mages are descended from Balbaronia.
Tumblr media
Presumably Arion is linked to further kingdoms and Aquaman Atlantis as well.
(You see! It all makes sense! The multiple contradictory Atlantis mythologies in DC are actually because there were 7 kingdoms in Atlantis! Don't look closely this definitely fixes the situation!)
Also we get back to Shamballah finally and Tara's mad at Travis and tries to bar him from the city. I am 100% certain he deserves it, because Travis is a terrible partner who refuses to stop wandering off to fight things. Tara has a good yell at him about this exact topic and how he's not reliable. Travis tells Tara he still loves her and Tara's like...fine I won't throw you out until after we retire to my bedroom for a while.
