Agents of SHIELD Rewatch Season 3A (ep. 1-10)

Here's my commentary on my rewatch of Agents of SHIELD Season 3 Episodes 1-10. This may not be the best commentary since these are just the thoughts and opinions that come to my mind as I watch the episodes rather than a full-blown analysis, but I'm just having fun with it!

3x01 Laws of Nature

Can’t wait for more no lighting this season!

JOEY aka Marvel’s actual first on screen openly gay character. POC LGBTQ+ character to mention. Do wish they did more with him though. Love him.

Very beginning, and the government already wants to use lethal force against innocent, scared, and confused people.

Joey’s power is really interesting. Wonder if there was more they could explore with it.

Daisy is so good at helping people and the inhumans. She really was destined to protect and lead them. Wish the show had gone more into this after season 4.

Daisy calls Coulson Phil in this episode, and it’s so season 1 vibes before she chooses AC. I think this is only the 2nd time she’s called him Phil in the whole show. I think.

Was SHIELD able to get hold of other inhumans before Joey? Like I think Daisy mentioned having names later in the episode or the next. Was that a thing?

I feel for Joey. I’d probably have a very similar reaction.

I’ve always thought about what power I’d like to have if I was an inhuman. I’d want force fields like Violet from the Incredibles.

And here’s the season where I start to not like Fitz. I get wanting to get your loved one back but having your friends cover for you with nothing in return?? Also not to mention the shit he doesn’t get for it while Daisy got so much shit for doing what was best for her in season 4.

Though I will admit, Fitz’s field skills have improved well.

Kinda hate how no one talks to Fitz and confronts things he might be doing wrong because they don’t want to have that confrontation. Mack and Bobbi just choose to not talk to him about it. Maybe that’s why he is so much worse in season 4/5.

Sorry Fitz fans. This is where it starts for me (Actually started back in s1 but it’s more prominent here)

And I get wanting Jemma back. I have no doubt in my mind that Daisy researched the monolith for months and tried everything she could to get Jemma back. I just hate how much praise Fitz gets for being single minded.

“Only love can make a man so stupid” I don’t disagree. But there’s a certain level with Fitz that I just had to laugh. Also I’m willing to argue obsessive more than love.

I’m really going in now with my disdain for Fitz, aren’t I haha😂

I wasn’t a big fan of Rosalind at first, but she became a fun character.

Coulson and Hunter is always a fun duo. They bounce off each other so well.

Every time the power flickers at the hospital, I always just think about the people on life support lol😅

Also was Lash/Andrew specifically going after Lincoln. Because of his connection to SHIELD, I feel like he would be a no no target.

I get why people are upset with how Lash looked, but given that’s it’s an actual costume and not CGI, I think it’s pretty impressive. That’s just me though. Honestly, doesn’t take much to impress me.

Wait, so was it Fitz’s idea not to tell Jemma’s family she’s missing?? Cause his reaction says he doesn’t want to tell them. THEY DESERVE TO KNOW THEIR DAUGHTER IS MISSING!! My god, here we go…

Though I do kinda like the father-son sort of relationship between Fitz and Coulson.

3x02 Purpose in the Machine

And we open with a human sacrifice. Fun!

It’s a split second thing, but when Daisy is helping to push the containment door to the monolith closed, you can actually see Chloe’s tattoo on her arm!

I see people be critical for Coulson looking at the negatives, but then again, he’s being realistic. They wanna have all the facts straight before they put all their energy into something and reach a dead end. I love Jemma, you guys, so I do want her back.

See, why is Bobbi reprimanded for covering for Fitz, but not Fitz himself for leaving and having Bobbi cover?

It makes me sad as to why Andrew hasn’t allowed anyone for the team.

Why is everyone “he is who he is” but Daisy has to change and grow for everyone. She does that on her own perfectly fine for her own growth. Why can’t everyone change and grow??

I love how everyone is just pressing buttons and levers all “let’s see what this does”

I literally do not care about the Ward Hydra story so don’t expect much on it lol.

IDK why but the “Melinda 1979” on the back of the photo makes me emotional. I wish we got more of May’s life before SHIELD.

Also, is there a confirmed year of birth for May? Ming was born in 1963, so she’s be 16 in 1979, but she looks younger in the photo.

Here is the scene of a major red flag for Fitz. Totally disregarding Daisy’s health. She said she can hold it for maybe a minute. She holds it for too long because Fitz is single minded and cares for no one else but Simmons and himself. Again, I want Jemma back, but not at the expense of another. Daisy could have had serious brain damage or other injuries due to her powers. She also doesn’t have her gauntlets, so her arms are being damaged as well.

I feel like this scene lasted longer in canon time but for screen time, it was about 3 minutes long. Again, Daisy said she could only hold it for 1 minute. Fitz totally over exerted her.

Also the way she just plops down so weakly.

I’m glad Simmons is back though and didn’t drag her being on Maveth for too long.

Also, we don’t have anyone caring for Daisy??? Again, glad Jemma is back and yes, she deserves the medical care, but we just glanced over Daisy?

3x03 A Wanted (Inhu)man

Again with the lethal force. Really?

Okay but the electric rain is really pretty.

Disney+ subtitles need fixing cause they said Daisy was speaking when Bobbi was, and Daisy wasn’t even in the scene until like 30 seconds later.

They should not have tagged Lincoln, but it definitely should have been ran by Daisy.

I understand Lincoln’s desire for a normal life, but he should understand the importance of SHIELD wanting to help him. They’re his best option.

May’s so hot in this episode. Just thought I should mention it.

When Spud hugs May, she kinda sounds like Mulan there.

The subtitles for the drunk brits haha.

It is sweet that Fitz is helping Jemma, but I’m about to mention a negative side to the fandom because of it. I often see people hate on Jemma saying “This is what she should have done for Fitz with his brain injury”. SHE DID TRY. But she was obviously not helping, and not to mention the trauma she went through too. She left Fitz because she needed to do what she needed to do.

It might be my Daisy bias but every time a character does something that Daisy did that she got reprimanded for, I’m gonna say something cause both the show’s and the fandom’s treatment of her is disgusting.

The May and Hunter team up is definitely interesting. And there is a small moment where Hunter is actually right.

Also, wouldn’t people notice that Hunter came accompanied?? The point of May not fighting is because word will spread and get Ward, and Ward knows May. Like people could be telling Ward, “Yeah, he came in with a small, Asian woman”.

Agents of SPOOF has ruined so many scenes for me haha😂 Evil Queen as Rosalind and the TV as the mirror then Clark in the Peggy Carter costume.

I love this little Skimmons scene!! “You can call me whatever you want”🥺

It’s also kinda sad how when her team is going through something, Daisy is the first person to be there for them but when she needs the help, she’s on her own. And people wonder why she ran.

I see both sides with Daisy and Coulson but Daisy’s side showcases the lives in danger and how they need to protect them.

3x04 Devils You Know

Lincoln said the elders at Afterlife only chose one person every few years. How is there such a handful of people who have powers??

Again, Daisy just dragging Mack with her along for the ride haha 😂

So did Coulson just like sneak around the building to meet with Rosalind.

Ward, you know NOTHING about accountability.

Again, Daisy’s side focuses on the lives in danger. They should be able to get to them first to help.

Fitz, do you not know privacy and not read things that don’t belong to you?

Also Bobbi does you an explanation for anything, Fitz.

I don’t really hate Hunter for going in for Ward. I get he’s impulsive but Ward would have killed Andrew regardless. Since when does Ward keep his word. He doesn’t have that kind of morality.

Also Hunter had a point. If they didn’t act, so many people would have died.

But at the same time, Hunter almost cost Andrew’s life. It’s a sticky situation in my opinion.

Ngl, first time I watched this, I thought Fitz brought Jemma toilet paper and not a mug of tea haha😅

3x05 4,722 Hours

ICONIC EPISODE

Jemma is a lot calmer than I would be lol.

Also saying it now but Elizabeth Henstridge BLEW THIS EPISODE PUT OF THE WATER! I love her.

Has Will aged at all? I don’t think so. Cause in 2001, Jemma would have been 14 and Will was a fully trained adult astronaut.

Also when did this video take place. I’m imagining season 2 cause Daisy has the bangs, but at the time, Fitz was still recovering.

The whole scoliosis story leads to the series finale where Jemma names her daughter Alya🥺

I myself am not super religious, but I go to a christian college, and I am required to take religion classes and I wrote a paper on this season for a media analysis and how it reflects the gospel and the Bible. Just a little fun fact cause Will mentioned “Garden of Eden”

Will doesn’t deserve to hate he gets. He literally did nothing wrong. He protected Jemma and helped to keep her in check and not lose her mind. He truly is an amazing guy.

Also Jemma does not deserve hate for falling in love with Will. She didn’t cheat on Fitz, they were never a couple. Jemma deserves to be happy and if she was alone on a planet, she deserves someone like Will. Also they were together for six months. That’s enough time to fall in love with someone. This episode shows some of the fandom’s true colors and how they view women compared to the men on the show. Yes, I am calling this out.

Also, what’s so wrong about Jemma just wanting to be best friends with Fitz? She doesn’t owe him romantic feelings just because he feels that way about her.

RIP Will. You deserved so much better.

3x06 Among Us Hide...

I love May, and I get that she trusts Bobbi and knows she can do it, but I feel like May shouldn’t go behind Bobbi’s medical orders. What if something bad ended up happening? Again, love May, but some things might be uncalled for. Though, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt since she’s out for blood.

This season has a common theme of characters going off the deep end and are justified but the moment a special someone (i think you all know who I’m talking about~) does something for herself, she’s not justified. I’ll be taking about this more in season 4.

“Ward’s starting his own Hydra dynasty. Cute”

Ugh Gideon Malick. Screw him. At this point, I don’t know if I hate him or Nathaniel more. But rest in peace Powers Booth.

So Rosalind just picked Coulson up like a school kid? lol.

Hunter, have you bought a plane ticket for an ex of Bobbi before?

Ugh Hunter, I like you, but you don’t know Will either, so you have no say in his character.

“You saw him” and realizing that Andrew is just questioning Daisy as to see if she saw him.

I just love May and Bobbi’s face changes lol.

May’s commentary in Mandarin is just hilarious.

I also love Hunter added to the Daisy and Mack team up. It’s much more chaotic and I love it.

Oh, Ros, he HAS been scoping things out.

Everything following Mack’s “oh no” is just chaotic.

“It’s awesome, so I stole it” I love you, Daisy.

I love Daisy’s discipline in this scene. It’s short and small but it’s very telling of her character development. Her instincts turned out to be wrong, and though she was so sure, she accepted it and it moving on the working the problem.

Also, Fitz trying to find dirt on Will is just gross. Not only does it show something about his character, but it shows how he doesn’t trust Jemma about what she’s saying about Will.

Another reason why Daisy was right all along. Putting inhumans in the gel matrix is in no way more humane than what SHIELD is trying to do. SHIELD, well at least Daisy, is trying to educate people and help them understand their heritage and powers. Daisy wants to help others better themselves. Putting people in involuntary comas is not making them better. It’s also taking the choice to learn and grow away from them.

So when did Jiaying plant the terrigen crystal in that book? Cause it cracked right when it was opened.

How come when Daisy turns out fine, she’s the outlier. But with Lash, it’s all inhumans are uncontrollable and want to hurt people.

The fact that it was Lincoln on the phone with Mack cause he trusts Mack.

I just feel so sorry for May.

The little background elements with Mack make the climax of this episode so much fun (but still hurtful cause I still love Andrew)

DAISY AND MAY HUG #1 OF 4

Yes, Roz, a containment pod is more humane than induced comas in gel. Also, the pod is temporary for travel. They have more resources where they can expand training and understanding.

@ryder616 made a post about the whole “for every Daisy Johnson, there’s a Lash” which everyone should check out. To sum it up, it’s a very unfair comparison to make as the inhumans just want to be left alone, but everyone else wants to blame inhumans for the problems they face and are too quick to judge.

Also, inhuman abilities are not an illness. It’s something that is naturally apart of them. Making them give that up, trying to “cure” them, that’s truly the inhumane part of everything.

This episode really showcases Ming’s acting and I love it.

I know it’s a serious moment, but May sitting on her legs was cute. Like a little kindergartner😅

“I’m still in love with you, Melinda” UGHHHH😫

No, Roz, you definitely overstepped.

Shark attack? Really, Coulson?😂

Daisy still giving Andrew the benefit of the doubt😭 That’s why she’s still so good.

“And you know I’ll never lay a finger on Daisy”🥺🥺 Andrew and Daisy really did have a good relationship.

Okay, Andrew this is where we draw the line. No using Bahrain with May. You are actually killing innocent people. But I do understand apart of it is Lash and not Andrew. At least a little I understand.

Andrew and May used an oven as a heater yet my mom yells at me for having a small fan on my nightstand on during the night when it’s so hot in California.

I do like Rosalind going with Coulson’s plan and not going towards her own wants.

So much of Daisy’s powers is just “well, that worked”😂

Not Fitz and Hunter saying Will has a hog face. So disrespectful not just to Will but to Jemma as well.

I have mixed feelings about the gel matrix in Andrew’s case. I still don’t agree with it fully, but I see what Daisy says about it as she says it’s a temporary solution.

I think May has cried only 3 times in this show. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s only in 2x17, 3x07, and 5x22.

3.08 One Head, Many Tales

Ward really thinks he can take on the head of Hydra, who has been head for YEARS, all on his own. Please lol.

But the history of Hydra is a little interesting as it spans longer than WWII.

Andrew IS one of the good ones😭

Here we go, Fitz already pissing me off. I get you’re focused, but that doesn’t excuse you to be an asshole to people helping you.

“Will that happen again” “Pinning takes the fun out of it” This was cute!

If May singled me out and I knew she was upset, I’d be crying and/or shitting my pants right then and there.

Where was the location of the Playground? It’s probably a simple google search on the mcu wiki, but I’m lazy rn.

There’s just something about Daisy talking with her hacking lingo just makes me feel soft. I guess it just feels like little Skye in season 1🥺

I love tech support Mack.

Also love “Damn the Yanks” Hunter. Again, just completely chaotic.

Now Ward is just full blown terrorist. I mean, not that he wasn’t before.

SHIELD snatched Coulson up because he was uncovering SHIELD secrets due to history lessons. Kinda like how Daisy was picked up because she got into SHIELD servers.

Someone, probably Daisy, teach Hunter how to type😅

Ughhh I am not a big fan of this Fitzsimmons kiss. It’s not just that I’m not the biggest fan of Fitz or the ship. The whole situation is just shitty. Fitz says they’re cursed yet there are other relationships (ex: May and Andrew. Coulson and Rosalind. Later Daisy and Lincoln) that are literally being pulled apart. It’s not the universe’s fault that the two of you (Fitz mostly) took years to say your feelings Also, Jemma JUST said she’s in love with Will, yet Fitz still goes ahead and kisses her??? Kinda an ass move.

The May and Lincoln team up is actually pretty cool. I kind of like it. Even though we get a little bit. I kinda want more of it.

Introduction of Giyera. Tbh, despite actually being in majority of the season, Giyera’s a pretty forgettable character.

Ward falling through the ceiling is just so random😂

Rosalind was recruited in 2001 with NASA, the same year Will was shipped off to Maveth. Wonder if they knew each other?

Okay. I know it. You know it. We all know it. That old Hydra symbol looks like a dick.

That being said, how the hell did the cast keep a straight face? Especially since literally the whole cast is there😂

3.09 Closure

And goodbye Rosalind Price. Definitely a fun character and deserved a little more time.

And her death was BRUTAL.

I really feel for Coulson, I really do, but he went off the deep end and not in a good way. I understand wanting to get information on Ward, but interrogating the og team, making them open up about uncomfortable things.

And then there’s Daisy’s interrogation. He’s quick to accuse Daisy of being able to forgive Ward despite knowing all that Ward had done to her and how she will never forgive him. Did we just forget about the kidnappings? Kidnappings! Plural!

Again, a character going off the deep end and acting on emotion and being excused for it, but the moment Daisy goes off the deep end cause she’s drowning in guilt or when she’s in charge, making emotional decisions, she’s ridiculed. No, I will never stop talking about it.

They never explicitly said Thomas died or survived in season 1 did they? Cause they kinda implied he died.

YOU killed Kara, Ward. YOU KILLED HER. YOU had the gun. YOU we’re just stupid enough to fall for the fake one.

Okay, but how did none of the Hydra soldiers not see the containment module light come on or hear Andrew??

And the soldiers that did come in were literally looking straight at Jemma? Like what?

I know this is Hive inside Will, but it’s so different from when he’s in Ward.

Bobbi’s got it handled.

“I’m bulletproof!”

Also Joey willing to jump in front of Daisy to protect her from getting shot🥺

But now I wanna write a fic if she would have gotten shot. I just want other characters to care about her okay😩

Coulson beating the crap out of Ward is very satisfying.

Shoot Ward again.

Just wanna say that May’s lipstick in this episode is *chef’s kiss*

Did Coulson know about Will?

Twice is not enough for Ward to be shot.

“Can’t speak for everyone, but I’ll probably run” Same Hunter.

Again, RIP Will.

“I’ll be fine” *literally passes out the next scene*

And Coulson crushing Ward’s ribcage is the most satisfying thing about this episode.

Rewatching 4722 Hours

In 3x04 there’s a conversation about survivors between Andrew and Jemma that’s basically this episode’s plot points:

Jemma survives the first month, the thoughest one, keeping her hope, thinking of the people she cares about, chiefly Fitz, like the hiker stranded in the mountains had done during her own ordeal.

Then she had Will, a routine and a purpose - finding the portal’s endpoint - like the Chilean miners trapped underground.

And when that one chance failed, she gave up hope, as she confesses to Andrew, resigning herself to survival, something I feel Will sort of wanted all along, because he had already resigned himself a long time before Jemma arrived and, as Daisy once said when she was still Skye, “hoping for something and losing it, hurts more than never hoping for anything”.

I like Will, the top-marks pilot astronaut hero man who is still remarkably sane considering he’s been living for 14 years alone in the dark with a creepy stalker and helps Jemma despite how hard it must be to let himself believe a rescue is still a possibility after all that time. And maybe he never really does but tries anyway, for her sake.

He’s the first human to ever set foot on another planet (though I suppose the true first would be Captain Marvel and there’s also Quill), and in another solar system to boot, and he’s going to die on it without even the small consolation of ending in the history books because, unless S.H.I.E.L.D. does him a solid and makes his story public, nobody will ever know.

Yet some stuff about him is a bit contradictory, verging on suspicious. His insistence on the supernatural attributes of the planet aside, he says he’s not very sciencey, but from the information Fitz has gathered up in 3x06, he was president of the Science Club, head of the Astrophysics Department at his high school (or college?). In the newspaper article there’s a story how, as a child, he had built his own telescope from the plans found in an astronomy magazine, which sounds like something he might have mentioned when Jemma told him her own childhood tale of watching the stars. And he’s a test pilot and astronaut, two careers that, I imagine, would require a substantial technical background at least.

The actor apparently had serious personal problems at the time and was fired because of it so maybe this was all groundwork that never panned out.

Bogey (Inhu)man:

I don’t think Hive has ever been scarier than in this episode, probably because he’s filtered through Will’s and Jemma’s, perception and terror, which helps explain why the things they think he can do aren’t what Hive will be capable of later.

For instance, Will says “It” can get into people’s heads and make them “crazy”, but Hive will only be able to influence Inhumans and it’s unlikely the three dead scientists were.

Will also believes that Hive and the planet are somehow “linked” (the planet’s “moods” as he calls them), attributing to “It” the sandstorms and the wider than expected canyon.

These are easy enough to reconcile, though. The scientists don’t need to go crazy to die: Austin’s death could have been accidental, if Brubaker had been “consumed” by Hive, his remains would have looked like a burnt corpse to someone without a medical background and Taylor may have simply succumbed to paranoia, believing Will had murdered the other two. The rest is Will giving meaning to random events, something people do all the time under much less stressful circumstances than his.

One thing this Hive and later Hive have in common is the ability to track bleeding people. And I suppose his two very different appearances - tattered robe creeper and spacesuit stalker - could be seen as an indication that he can take over other people’s bodies? Though how would Austin or Taylor’s corpses still be viable hosts after 14 years...maybe Maveth’s environment and bacteria (if there are any) are different enough from Earth’s to make it possible? Or maybe he’s a fashionista and we’ve seen his winter and summer looks. I mean, he will wear quite the sharp outfit for most of the season...😉

Monolith Prime:

Ignoring the complications introduced by season 5 and 6, this is roughly the history of the original Space Monolith:

Thousands of years ago, it was brought to Earth by (probably) the Kree (Jiaying thinks it’s of Kree origin, 2x20) and was used to exile Hive to Maveth. (3x08)

Hive’s human worshippers founded the Hydra cult, managed to take possession of the Monolith and started sending people through it, to find a way to bring Hive back and sustain him on the other side. (3x07, 3x08)

The Monolith was moved around a lot, likely following the cult gaining power at various points in history (3x02). At some point, they also cut out five smaller pieces out of the Monolith which by 2016 were stored in one of Von Strucker’s family vaults and were later (very likely) destroyed when S.H.I.E.L.D. bombed the English castle in 3x10.

By the 1800s, the Monolith was in England and it was still there when Professor Randolph investigated the rumors in 1853 (3x02).

Some time after it ended up buried in the Yucatan where S.H.I.E.L.D. eventually dug it out.(Fitz 3x01)

By 2001 it was in NASA’s possession, who used it to send Will’s team to Maveth. (3x05)

By 2014 it was in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s possession and they were transporting it on the Iliad when Hydra revealed itself and Fury ordered Bobbi to a suicide mission so it wouldn’t fall into their hands (2x15). It stayed on the Iliad for about a year until it was transferred to the Playground, ate Jemma and was later destroyed during her rescue, leaving only several small, and apparently inert, rocks behind.(2x20-3x03)

These debris must have stayed in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s possession at least until the Playground blew up in 4x15 and the agency went belly-up again. After that, it’s anyone’s guess. I have a what if scenario which I’m shamelessly linking before S7 makes it sound even sillier.

Stuff that crossed my mind:

Air is breathable, oxygenated. Gravity seems to be slightly stronger or I’m very tired. [...] the terrain is barren, desert-like. Although conditions seem favorable for terrestrial organisms, there’s no immediate sign of life nor any noticeable vegetation or water. Soo...not the best choice of destination for an interstellar vacation, then?

It will open again. Fitz will find a way. After all, we’re going for dinner. See, that was your mistake. Had you said “no”, nothing bad would have happened. Well, a chunk of the audience might have hated you forever but...😁

What if we run out of things to talk about [at the dinner date]? For the first time ever. Of course that’s when it would happen. Given your track record, an alien abduction during the appetizers seems more likely.

And of course there’s a monster in the pond. If Mack were here, he would have foreseen it.

You’re dinner, biatch! Yay. Roasted carnivorous monster plant, served with stagnant water. (and yeah, yeah, the “biatch!”, just like Fitz in 2x22. But sad food hits my heart harder 😁)

I wish [Fitz] could’ve been here. Actually, no, I don’t. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. She’ll say the same about the future in 5x01, albeit a little less convincingly.

I’m alive. But I’m terribly alone and afraid. So I really need you to come and get me, okay. I know you won’t give up, so I won’t, either. It occurs to me that this may have been Fitz’s thought process as well. He was muttering “I can’t give up, I won’t give up” after they had pulled him out of the Monolith box.

You’ll notice I’m giving less updates to conserve battery power. Why? That thing is powered by the inexhaustible energy source known as The Plot. It’ll only run out if and when the story needs it to. Update away. 😁

Will is really rocking the murder-y hermit aesthetic.

You’re going to eat me! Is that what this is all about? You fatten me up and then leave to the slaughter! -- Not a bad idea. For someone who’s been scraping by for 14 years in the dark Will looks in remarkably good health and is apparently still capable of sarcasm. Hopefully. 🤣

Oh c’mon, pretending to be ill to get one over your capturer is the oldest trick in the book!

You’re bleeding. -- What do you care? -- It smells blood. “It” sounds like a lovely chap already...

It affects the planet. That’s how you know It’s coming. Or the planet affects It. Either way, it’s evil. This whole godforsaken planet is evil. -- Planets cannot be evil. Say that after 14 years with no sun, crappy food, little water and an ominous bogeyman figure creeping about.

Why would I trust you, anyway? You locked me in a cage, stabbed me with a spear, threatened to eat me. -- That was your idea. Yeah, he only caged you and hit you. I don’t know why you’re complaining.

You're a doctor? -- Not a medical doctor, but yes. “Not a medical doctor but yes” should be printed on her S.H.I.E.L.D.’s I.D. 🤣

I have PhDs in biology and chemistry. A-HA! Biology and chemistry. Wait a minute....COULSON!!!!!!!

Technology must have hit warp speed after I left. Will is a trekkie. 😎

What's this, the no-fly zone? -- Off limits. Only bad things happen there. You could say that of most AoS sets when you think about it.

I'm sorry, but I need to conserve the battery. Fitz engineered it to last a long time, but it's draining. No, it’s not. 🤣

NASA sent us here with all the power we could ever use. Except it's all solar. And in case you haven’t noticed, there’s not much sunshine. This is peak Murphy’s Law, honestly.

That's real? S.H.I.E.L.D.? So in 2001, to the not so average person (hey, he’s an AirForce test pilot and astronaut), S.H.I.E.L.D. was a bit of a myth. The scary bogeyagency superior officers told stories about when their subordinates complained about the cafeteria menu?

I have never been able to resist doing something when I'm told the odds are impossible. Flexing for the new pretty tenant, aren’t you, Will? I understand.

There's no getting home. The sooner you accept that, the better. Survival's all that matters. He might as well have said “don’t give me hope”.

1490 hours and the battery still has juice.

Why would you carry the delicate, centuries old sextant, your only shot to find the portal’s exit point, without its protective case? I was expecting the thing to break for sure.

3032 hours and the battery still retains enough charge that powering a laptop long enough to run stars tracking software is a feasible plan.

3183 hours, battery’s still good before finally dying when they have one, and only one of course, result, assuring no second chances if they fail. 🤣

Incidentally, to complete the Mighty Smartphone saga, the screen is cracked. So Fitz engineered a near magical battery that would probably change the world if the technology was made public but couldn’t do anything significant to reinforce the display glass. Which is really fortunate because a pristine looking phone at this point would look totally unrealistic. 🤣

So, this portal, how do we know it's not just a door that swings one way? -- I think it acts more like a valve. On Earth, it seemed to open randomly, but it only appeared random from our point of view. -- What opens it? -- The moons. Their degree of alignment affects the portal the way our moon affects the tides, causing it to ebb and flow, pulling things in and out. Does this mean that if Hive had been exiled to a planet without moons, the Monolith would never have opened on its own and Hive would have eventually died without anyone to feed on long before Will and Jemma were born?

Well, I'm gonna shoot this into the wall across the canyon. And we're gonna slide across on the rope. What, did you think I was gonna build a helicopter? -- Kind of. You have to excuse her, Will. Her expectations in these matters are a bit over the top. I have no idea why. 🤭

Unless there was some significant earthquake -- it doesn't want us to leave. Sorry, I’m going to go with “significant earthquake” and even “you lied to her” before I accept the planet is making its canyons wider to please Hive or whatever.

This isn’t a home. This is hell. Complete with its very own devil.

They came for you! It wasn't Fitz! It's one of yours! -- Jemma, run! It's not what you think it is! -- It's okay! We're going home! -- Jemma, don't trust it! It'll do anything to fool you! Including digging out Austin or Taylor and stealing their spacesuits? Nah.

We're gonna get him back. Guys...I don’t know how to say this...it would be really, really best if you didn’t... 😔 *glares at Malick*

Tell me about your headcanons first, Re:Mouse&Deke!

I'm probably supposed to be doing other things but I'm exhausted from work and this is more fun than being productive, so. I have three headcanons on that list, some with more evidence than others (that's how it be sometimes)

💜 autistic

I have way more evidence toward Mouse being autistic than Deke, mostly because I haven't watched AoS in while to like. look for it? but I have a few examples from CPD for Mouse. (I cannot find the gifsets so just bear with me here) The ones that jump out most are scenes like this moment in 2x17, when he's down in the tech cage talking to Erin about the case, and it takes him a few seconds to recognize her sarcasm and respond to it. There's another scene in 3x05 where he makes an observation about something small in their case (someone's name is Greek and he points it out), and he gets a weird look for it and then he goes like... mostly non-verbal for the rest of the episode and starts raising his hand before he speaks so he doesn't get judged for an out of turn comment again it makes me very sad and one day I'll make a gifset of all his little autistic vibes moments because there are a lot tbh those are just the first two I remembered But Deke... I just know it in my soul. I'm sure there's actual evidence somewhere but again, I haven't watched in a while, so I can't pull anything from the top of my head.

I understand that Sam wanted to leave CPD and AoS was ending so Mouse and Deke had to have their stories wrapped up but they did both of those badly. Mouse having a whole two season arc about recovering from addiction and finding his footing again and establishing himself in a steady job that doesn't involve committing crime and/or hiding half of his life because he's an informant for Jay, only to have his story end by having him return to the exact environment that traumatized him and sent him into the spiral that caused all of that in the first place? Bad. Bad writing. I hate it. 0/10 would not recommend. Deke having a three season arc about not having a family and having to completely fend for himself and do shady underhanded things along the way, and then finding a family and having people to rely on for once in his life, and becoming less paranoid and growing as a person because of that, only for his story to end by willingly giving up the life with the family that he fought so hard for? bad writing. awful. get it away from me. Giving characters emotional growth over the course of years and completely undoing it for the sake of an "ending"? Bad. I don't want it. Let characters have and keep their growth without ruining it for the drama of it all.

I need to ask Sam about some of his acting decisions. Desperately. Of course they won't say it outright, because it's a dramatic prime time cop show and he hasn't been there since 2016, but I'm absolutely convinced that Mouse is gay. He gazes at Jay too much. He flirted with Matt on screen. He showed up to work in someone else's shirt and that was not a woman's shirt, okay? I headcanon him as gay, but a lot of the fandom headcanons him as bi (or at least most of the fic I see has him as bi) (as a bisexual, I don't personally see that energy in him, but I get it, canon doesn't give us any details at all) I have headcanoned Deke as pansexual since the moment I saw him on my screen. Or maybe he's just Like That. He has a specific energy and I can't explain it but it's just. He just has vibes and I don't talk about it enough. Also everything with Trevor and even Freddy was just a little bit flirty like that was too much for me to just be seeing things.

Ok so I know that Tyler, Amber, Trevino, and Heather all have ten episode contracts and so they will each be missing from three episodes. Tyler was missing from 3x04 Walk on the Ocean. And it got me wondering what other episodes will they be missing. Though I believe they are all in the last big three finale episodes.

So this is me guessing with a few websites, Tumblr, Spoilertv, Wiki, and IMDB. Which I know not really reliable, but what can you do.

So the upcoming episodes synopsis and titles are... I remember that the titles of the episodes are based on song titles.

3x05: Killing Me Softly With His Song Liz (Jeanine Mason) makes the choice to lie to Heath (guest star Steven Krueger). Maria (Heather Hemmens) and Rosa (Amber Midthunder) stand up to Jordan (guest star Michael Grant Terry) meanwhile Isobel (Lily Cowles) does some digging into Jones (Nathan Dean). Also starring Michael Vlamis and Michael Trevino.

3x06: Bitter Sweet Symphony Max (Nathan Dean) investigates the break-in meanwhile, Alex (Tyler Blackburn) continues his research. Rosa (Amber Midthunder) and Isobel (Lily Cowles) team up and Liz (Jeanine Mason) makes a shocking discovery. Also starring Michael Vlamis, Heather Hemmens and Michael Trevino.

3x07: Goodnight Elizabeth

3x08: Free Your Mind

3x09: Tones of Home

3x10: Angles of Silences

3x11: 2 Become 1

3x12: Ep 12

3x13: Ep 13

Amber according to IMDB, though who knows there I believe is missing the same eps as Trevino. Ep 8: Free Your Mind, ep10: Angles of Silences, and ep 11: 2 Become 1, perhaps Rosa and Kyle are off on some sibling thing together.

Heather from what I can tell is not in ep 7: Goodnight Elizabeth, ep 8: FYM, which seems odd because that episode title seems perfect for her storyline for this season. Like I said, it’s IMDB, can’t trust them. And then it says she isn’t in ep 10: AOS and ep 11: 2B1. So who know cause she can’t be missing from four episodes because she has a ten episode contract like the others.

Trevino will probably miss ep 8: FYM, ep 10: AOS, and ep 11: 2B1 according to IMDB, but can’t trust that. I doubt that they are killing off Kyle, I can’t see the show killing off a main like that, especially since he’s shown he’s valuable to the story and show. So unless Trevino wants out, I would hope and assume that he’s not going to become the big victim of the mystery murder plot.

Tyler wasn’t in ep 4: Walk On the Ocean, even though I think IMDB said he would be. They aren’t to be trusted. I’m guessing he’s not in ep 5: Killing Me With His Song, since they don’t mention his name as also stars. And going off IMDB here that he might not be in ep 11: 2B1.

Does anyone else know anything different or any other information?

August 28: 3x05 Is There In Truth No Beauty?

Several days later, coming back to write up these Star Trek notes. I feel like I never got to talk this episode through properly, or even think through it properly by myself, because mom went right into watching AHS on Thursday, and I was too tired to even sort through my thoughts and when we talked yesterday, it was… entirely about other things.

So, here at least are my liveblog thoughts, and maybe I’ll remember some more as I write.

Right off the bat, this is such a cool concept: the friendly alien Ambassador who no one can look at because his form is not fit for human eyes.

Love Spock’s silly looking little visor. Not sure I get why he’s wearing it right now, when the Ambassador is in his box, but okay.

Dr. Jones is so beautiful. I love her dress.

I’m sure Spock is thinking “If only all Ambassadors could be put into little boxes like this.”

Okay, Ambassador’s coming! Everybody quarantine!

Right, I JUST remembered the significance of the dress.

Spock has experience with mind links with other creatures—a lot of experience that ho. Is he thinking about the pleasure of connecting to Kirk, that “dynamic individual”?

“My life is here.” With the Captain???

I feel like this episode is implying, all but stating outright, that Spock is very good at mindlinking. Like maybe even more so than the average Vulcan. Which makes sense because he does it so often. And yet he still messes up with AOS!Kirk.

I love the effects for the Ambassador. I’m not even being sarcastic; I think they get across the experience of looking at him quite effectively.

Hmmm, some non-touch telepathy. I know Spock has a little of that. I guess it’s mostly him reacting to Miranda, though.

Gotta get a dig in at Dr. McCoy before he leaves lol. Spock, so predictable.

Kirk’s flirting is off the charts today omg. Tone it down man.

SCOTTY IN A KILT aw yeah.

She learned from the Vulcans how not to read thoughts. Exactly!! Their telepathy is such an underrated part of the whole Vulcan thing, including why they remain ‘emotionless.’

She’s so jealous of Spock.

Honestly this whole scene… there’s a lot going on here! I’m trying to pay attention to the Vulcan telepath stuff but the men won’t stop flirting at 11. Especially McCoy, laying it on extra thick.

She does hold her own very well, though.

A preference for beauty—one of our last prejudices.

“Sleep well.” So cute. (I’ve already forgotten but I’m pretty sure this is Kirk.)

“We’re all vulnerable in one way or another.” KIRK SHUT UP I LOVE YOU.

Girls don’t like guys, girls like Medusan ambassadors.

This guy is so jealous. I barely know who he is lol; this comes out of nowhere.

Interesting angle on the hallway shot. I feel like there are a lot of those in this ep, like these weirdly long shots of the hallways… Maybe I’m just not used to seeing them with one or no people in them.

Kirk and the squad. Work work fashion baby.

“Larry? Marvick? Why?” Okay that is some real Shatnerian inflection there.

SCOTTY FIGHT SCENE.

*Ship veers obviously*

And look at this weird-ass view of the bridge. Like what the hell, where is the camera? On the lift? It’s so disorienting!

Spock needs to fix some stuff, calls for his protégé Chekov, of course.

And this funky music. So bizarre.

WE’LL BE SAFE AT THE BOUNADIRES OF THE UNIVERSE. Drama queen

This is a nutty view, this “unknown void.” Like one would think beyond space there’s… just more space, not a Windows 98 screensaver.

Space time continuum?? They didn’t time travel (again), did they?

“He just simply died.” How convenient.

“An entertaining suggestion, Mr. Chekov, but not very helpful.” Honestly, I do think he’s entertained. Spock has grown so much over the course of the show.. like I know there was controversy with his IC-ness this season but in this case, I really do think it is growth. Compare this to the Corbomite Maneuver, where he had a sense of humor but it was… a little mean, a little arch. There’s a certain warmth to him now.

Her mind must be so engaged that she doesn’t notice the plan for Spock to meld with the Ambassador = Kirk will seduce her. Lol. Of course. Everyone’s favorite honeypot.

He has absolutely NO shame.

The man sure does love his flowers, though.

She’s never been to Earth. So she’s a human born on a colony, I guess? That’s such a throwaway line, but so interesting. Could that be part of how she’s telepathic?

Oh no! A thorn!

“Violent emotion is a kind of insanity.” Can I steal this?

Too ugly to bear or too beautiful to bear?

Let me spell it out for you: this is romantic. (Again, I’ve forgotten what this refers to, but I’m going to assume it’s something Kirk said.)

Lol Bones just dropping truth bombs. How did he know she was blind? Did he recognize the dress or does he have access to her files as the ship’s doctor?

And Kirk accepts it immediately. “Of course! It’s the only reasonable explanation as to why you weren’t attracted to me.”

The Ambassador is brought to the bridge and placed behind a covid wall, I mean, protective barrier.

And now, we meet the Ambassador for real.

“THAT’s Spock!” Bones is so happy. He’s really not comfortable with Spock being all… smiley and flirty. Or rather, someone in Spock’s body, I should say.

Kollos is VERY flirty. And he and Miranda have chemistry for sure. It’s weird, because I don’t get any sense of that between her and Spock (rightly so) but Spock as the Ambassador and it comes right out.

I love the characterization of him. The idea that the Medusans’ thoughts are supposed to be particularly nice to engage with…. I really see how that would be. He’s so soothing.

Kollos is enjoying his time in a human body, I think. Mostly. Not all of it. (I got a little teary at the part about loneliness, ngl.)

Time to go back? So soon?

Noooo the shield! It’s like forgetting your mask when you enter a building.

[Spock wails]

Honestly, even seeing the steps to the upper level of the bridge is really weir. Like, I’ve always known there are steps there… but I’ve never thought about what they look like.

Kirk is so skeptical about all of this. Spock is in danger and his brain immediately goes to the pessimistic scenarios—very unlike him!

He’s freaking out nervous.

“Are we supposed to wake him with a kiss?” Idk, it’s worth a try. Why doesn’t Kirk give it a go?

Does Kirk have a game plan with Miranda here, or is he just honestly freaking out?

…The answer is honestly freaking out, which is rather a disappointment.

Spock has a necklace version of the IDIC symbol this time.

Everyone’s exchanging all these highly formulaic, formal goodbyes and Kirk’s like “Peace.” Wow, really trying hard with that one. Still rattled, I guess.

Also speaking of these formulaic exchanges—this fits very well with the HAICG-verse. Just saying.

This episode was really good! I loved Miranda, I am a huge fan of the underlying sci fi concept, and I though the Spock characterization and the hints of Vulcan culture were very interesting (and very in keeping with my own characterization and world building, imo).

The only thing I didn’t like was Kirk’s characterization. He felt like a stereotype, like who AOS thought TOS Kirk was, rather than himself—the over the top flirting, the dramatic rage, how he didn’t really seem in control of anything or on his game at all.

But, even though he’s my fave, the interesting Spock characterization made up for that, and I really appreciated these insights into him, interacting with someone who, while not Vulcan herself, had a Vulcan cultural background, someone he approached similarly to how he would one of his own people. It was very polite but with a lot of unsaid beneath the surface, which is how I imagine Vulcans are.

The introduction of IDIC truly was pretty random! I did like the idea of Spock trying to compliment her and not really landing it, because that’s just the awkward nerd sort of thing he would do. But it’s weird that the phrase has never been introduced before, and also that even within this episode, it’s only obliquely explained.

I’m not actually sure if I’ve seen the next ep or not. I don’t think so, but it’s possible I did and just don’t remember it very well…

It has taken my Uncle months to watch season 3 as his schedule is super busy and what not. But we have finally watched it all and are on to Season 4. Anyway, here are some of his reactions to the third season of Agents of Shield

Okay, they are pushing for it to be Lincoln waaaay too hard.

Uhhh, why is Daisy out of her cell. It’s her! Oh no.

Way to go Lincoln on the character growth. Staying for SHIELD!

Is Daisy going to fly? Oh no, she’s destroying the base. And she ruined Fitzsimmons make out session. And she’s bringing the base down. Also that.

Noooo! That’s it? That cliffhanger! *upset that we have to wait to watch the next episode*

Why are they all such jerks to Lincoln? Like, he just cannot win with Coulson and May. No one is nice to him. Except Fitzsimmons, they’re nice to him. Okay, and Mack.

Oh, Mack, what are you doing? Please don’t get hurt. Daisy please don’t hurt him. Mack noooo!

Wow, Shield is just struggling on all fronts. Daisy’s missing, Mack’s injured, Lincoln’s sick—Wait no after credit scene?! Dammit!
