I would LOVE to not have a 2 party system. hiya! preferencing everything i say here with a "this is an extremely close race and will be until the very end" disclaimer but! we are not in doom and gloom mode we are in determined hope mode imo

post debate: fox news anchors were saying on air immediately after the debate that trump lost. like straight up they COULD not spin it in a way that he won. harris challenged him to another debate like hours after and i think it was today where he was like "no i totally won 100% so im not doing another" which. makes him look like a coward running away from facing her again bc he and everyone else knows he lost. so that's fun! of course he could go back on that bc he switched between he would/wouldnt do this debate like 8 times leading up to it. u cant trust anything out of his mouth! who knew?

ANYWAYS so that post i rb'd earlier was true: about 1/4 trump voters said the debate made them reconsider their vote, and i thiiiink wapo cited 6% of trump voters DID change their vote post debate. debates dont traditionally have anything to do with election results but it might be a good indicator in this one. most undecided voters' stance is "we dont know enough about harris's positions/policies" bc her campaign is like. 1.5? 2? (i forget) months old. the debate was her chance to lay her policy out for a HUGE audience- i think it was 67 million people watching? whereas trump: everyone knows who he is and what his views are. he is a known figure and people have made decisions. she is not known. and her core message that debate was "i am not trump or biden, i'm a new way forward" which for all of the people who were not wanting to vote for either trump/biden (bc of policies or age or WHATEVER) is important. national polls are close with harris trending up basically since her campaign started, but the important polls are the swing state ones, which typically are either tied or harris up by a tinyyyy bit.

the important thing here is: trump has his base. they will vote for him no matter what. generally he's kind of capped off how many voters he can get. people who are undecided/abstaining wouldve committed to him by now. harris is the unknown here, which means she has the greatest potential for growth, esp among undecideds and abstaining voters. the general view is they want to know more and are open to learning more. she's only done the one big mainstream news media interview so far bc she's been uh. a little busy! between constant rallies and the dnc and debate prep and such, but she's also been doing (almost?) daily local radio interviews. extremely grassroots campaign stuff. but also she's gotten fuckin. liz and dick cheney's endorsements. and a lot of other republicans. AND ALSO one piece of extremely good post debate news: taylor swift's endorsement. i think i saw a number today where in the 24 hours since her post, over 400,000 people clicked the link to the voter registration website so. extremely encouraging

Yes, they do assume that he's going to be a horrible teacher. They think hes going to cause huge problems and be a liability, distract the students, and be a bad influence. For the most part? They are correct. But like you said, his pranks are much smaller, like playing Brittney Spears over the speakers, threw overcooked grilled cheese at kids as 'dodge practice', and often joins Mr Howlett's P.E. to teach them skills. He's the hardest one on them. Some kids love his class. Some kids HATE his class because they think its hard. But Wade ironically uses this time and his class to raise their confidence and build connections with them. To teach them how to read their enemies' moves. A lot of students think about patterns when being taught fighting tactics, but with Wade, he HAS no style of fighting. It's quite physically so random that you never know what he's gonna do.

His SCHOOL at is literally @Suckitscotty because he voted against him coming to the school seeing how difficult he was to handle with Russel and how much of a liability he would be, I mean Logically he aint wrong. Having a mercenary who is known to betray teams, leave no witnesses, is unreliable, and has severe mental illness and a personality disorder IS infact not a good idea. Honestly Q-Taro was a very realistic character. In these kinds of death games or life or death scenarios you have to look out for yourself the most if you want to live. Sacrificing yourself for someone you just met is not as easy as people think.

He's real. He feels authentic to me. He's not positive enough that he believes everything will go right and they can take on anything. But he's also not a downer of a character that just makes you wanna drag and skip the game because of everything they say and act.

Q-Taro earned my respect the fucking moment he stepped in and questioned Keiji, a grown ass policeman and adult why he was okay with letting some random high schooler like Sara wield a gun instead of literally any of the responsible adults there.

It was reinforced even more when Q-Taro suggested in the first main game that the supposed ones with the weakest resolve and the ones who don't want to prove themselves to be of worth to the group should be voted out instead of anyone else, to which he rightfully suggests Gin, Kanna, and Nao. He wasn't wrong there. He made a fair suggestion.

HECK, HE EVEN BACKS IT UP BY OUTRIGHT SAYING TO REKO THAT IF SHE THINKS HE'S USELESS, THEN SHE SHOULD VOTE FOR HIM AND SHOW HER OWN RESOLVE. THAT'S WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT. AND HE GETS VISIBLY UPSET WHEN KANNA IS OKAY WITH BEING VOTED BY EVERYONE ELSE. BECAUSE HE WANTS KANNA TO STEP UP FOR HERSELF. HE'S JUST TRYING TO GET THEM FIRED UP AND ENCOURAGE THEM.

And don't even get me started on 2-1. I get why people would be mad about him sacrificing everyone else in the bad ending where he puts in 200 me-tokens into the vending machine. I get that. I also understand why Q-Taro would do it, it clearly left a heavy feeling in his chest and he regretted it. That wasn't the right thing to do. But I don't blame him for it.

AND I SURE AS HELL DON'T BLAME HIM EITHER FOR NOT WANTING TO GET SHOT BY POISON IN THE FINAL ATTRACTION? HE'S SCARED OF DYING. THAT'S A PERFECTLY GOOD REASON TO NOT PUSH THE BUTTON.

Eret’s chat is also super nice to one another. Like they try to answer each other’s questions about what’s going on and the like.

Building content is always thrilling. I can’t do that stuff so it’s fun watching building.

A/N: So I was watching Skins season 6 when this idea came to me, this fic is a little bit based on that season.

Steven Grant Rogers

 Steve heavily turned off the alarm clock, it had been late, he flipped to your bedside, and he sighed disappointed when he noticed that it was empty.

He dialed your cell phone in the hope that you'd answer him, but you didn't, the mailbox came in instead of hearing your voice, his stomach protested.  

He went down to breakfast like every morning, even though they had prevented Thanos from making the snap, and you had beaten him, nothing was the same again.

After finishing breakfast, Steve decided to go for a run in the park, it was the fifth lap he gave when his cell phone rang.

“Y/N!”  He answered immediately excitedly. 

"Steve, you keep calling me a lot," you answered.  

"I know, it's just that all I want is for you to come back," he confessed embarrassed.

"Maybe you should have come to visit me more often after those days," you complained.  

"You know I tried, but I wasn't allowed in.”  

"You didn't try hard enough, but now no one will stop you from visiting me.” 

“Y/N…”

 The call was cut off, Steve blinked, after the battle, the calls were strange, sometimes he didn't understand what you wanted to say.  

"Steve?" Sam called him while he approaching carefully. 

"Hey, Sam.” 

“Are you okay?" Sam questioned. 

"Yes, only... I was thinking about Y/N...”  

"Steve we've talked about this... she's gone," Sam said.  

"I know... I know," Steve replied sadly. 

Sam looked up at a tree on the other side of where they were, blinked several times, you were half-hidden behind the tree, waving you a hand.

 Wanda Marya y Pietro Django Maximoff

 Wanda and Pietro were training, Wanda moved obstacles with her powers while her twin dodged them.  

"You're doing great," you congratulated them. 

"Y/N...”  

They approached skeptically, they weren't sure what they were seeing, and they didn't even care if it was a hallucination.  

"But...”  

"Aren't you happy to see me?" you asked.  

You stirred their hair, they were dumbfounded, and they didn't know what to say or do.

"You should stop feeling like you did something wrong when you joined HYDRA. 

"How do you know?" Pietro questioned.  

"Pietro... I know everything.”  

The twins saw each other, they had never told him anything about what they thought about what they had done.  

"They told you a lie, but when you found out what was going on you decided to do the right thing, didn't you?" you went on. 

The twins nodded.  

“Y/N...”

Wanda couldn't take it anymore and fell up to you to hug you, Pietro imitated her.  

"I've missed you so much," Wanda confessed.

"Me too, but you know I can't stay.”  

You separated from them.  

"Please, stay with us,” Wanda begged. 

 "We need you," Pietro supported.  

You were already gone.

 Steve was taking a shower when he heard the bathroom door open, he didn't pay attention, and he still felt angry with himself.  

You went into the bathroom, took off your clothes, you walked in with him, you hugged him in the back, he turned around. 

"Y/N..."  

You put a finger on his lips. 

"Shh, I don't want to talk, you know what I want."  

Steve kissed you fiercely as he touched you while the water was falling.

 Natasha Alianovna Romanoff

 Natasha peeked out the window, blinking several times, you shouldn't be there, and she immediately ran out to where you were.  

You kept swinging without being undeterred by the presence of your friend.

“Hi, Nat” you greeting.

“How is…?”

“You should talk with Banner,” you said.  

"I beg your pardon?"  

"You still love him."  

"Y/N, but you..."

"Nat, I just want you to be happy, I can assure you that you've paid for everything you've done in the past, it's time to start over," you said.  

"Y/N... But... is just..."  

"Nothing Nat, I promise you everything will be fine."  

"Steve..."  

"I know.” 

Nat heard footsteps close and turned to see who was approaching.

“Are you okay?” Clint asked her.

Nat turned to where you were... but there was no one on the swing anymore, it just moved slightly as if someone had just come down.

“Yeah…is just…”

 Steven Grant Rogers

 You handed the documents over to Cameron, you joked a little bit and then he left, Steve saw everything, got discouraged, but he had to get the doubt out of his head.  

"Agent Y/L/N,” he called you.  

"Captain.” 

"Your boyfriend?" Steve asked referring to Klein.  

"Hmm? Oh... Cameron... no, no, no, we're just friends," you answered.

"Friends?" repeated Steve unconcern convinced.  

"If we've known each other since the Academy and we're friends.”  

Steve exhaled more calmly, maybe he should be encouraged to ask you out.  

"Do you have anything to do on Saturday?" he questioned.  

"No, I don't think so.” 

He impulsively kissed you.  

"You already have plans then... with me, " he sentenced before he left.  

You just stood there smiling like a fool.  

Natasha had told him he had to be bolder if he wanted you to go out with him, so that's what he did.

 Samuel “Sam” Thomas Wilson

 You knocked on the back door of Sam's house kitchen, he was preparing his breakfast, he went to see who he was, suddenly he felt the air was missing, it was not possible what he saw.  

"Y/N, but you..."  

"I'm here Sam."  

"Y/N, I need explanations because..."  

"There's no time for that, Wilson, I need you to do me a favor, I need your help," you interrupted him.  

"What is it about? If you're in danger...”  

"Take care of Steve for me, I know he doesn't want to accept what happened, but I don't want him to do anything stupid," you asked.  

"What do you mean Y/N?" he asked across his arms.  

"Just promise me, Steve needs the support of all of you."  

"Sure, just explain to me what happened..." 

He looked up, there was no one in front of him.

“Y/N?”

 Steven Grant Rogers

 "You took a long time to get back" complained when you saw him walk into the room you shared.  

Steve was startled, he was supposed to be alone, but there you were in front of him, lying and naked in the bed you used to share.  

"Are you going to stand there watching me all night?" you asked.  

He came slowly, put a hand on your face, wondered if you were real, and kissed you.

 Anthony “Tony” Edward Stark  

Tony was designing armor for Pepper, they had decided to postpone the wedding one year after what happened, it was so unforeseen, and no one was over it yet.  

"I'd ask FRIDAY to announce me, but I'm sure you'd think it's a joke," you said. 

Tony turned around, what was going on was implausible.  

“I forgive you for being a moron with all of us,” you said.  

"Thank you?"  

"I know you have thousands of questions, but I won't answer them even if you do them, so abstained yourself," you continued.  

"Everything's been gone wrong since you left..."  

"No Tony, everything went wrong since the Accords, forgive Bucky," you ordered.  

"But he..."

"He killed your parents under HYDRA’s orders, not because he wanted to do it, all that he did was because he was under their control, all that things still cause him nightmares and a lot of regrets, anyway, shouldn't you be mad at your father and Peggy? They were the ones who hired Zola in S.H.I.E.L.D.; Zola was the one who created the Winter Soldier," you explained.  

Tony saw you quietly for a few minutes processing your words. 

"If you want to have a quiet life you could do it, but first, you must forgive and apologize, Tony."  

"I should have done something else, we should all have..." 

"It was my decision."  

"Could you come back? You are the heart of the team..."  

You smiled and left the lab without saying a word.

 Steven Grant Rogers

 You saw your little dog approaching you while he wagged his tail.  

"What are you wearing on your dog collar?" you asked when you saw something weird.  

Your dog sat in front of you and when you checked it, you saw the engagement ring.  

Behind Steve, he was watching everything, realizing that you already had the ring in your hand, he peeked out.  

"And what is your answer?" questioned nervously.  

"Of course I accept to marry my little boy," you replied jokingly as you took the dog in your arms.  

Steve's face was a mixture of emotions, it couldn't be said if he was bewildered, wanting to laugh or something else. 

"Would you marry me, doll?" he asked.  

You approached him and you were going to kiss him when the dog got between the two of us, laughed. 

"Of course I want to marry you, Steve," you answered.

 James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes

 Bucky dared not leave the room, he feared he would meet Tony and that He would start a fight; however, his cell phone rang.  

 "Hello, Buck."  

"Y/N..." 

"Can I see you?"  

 You gave him the directions, a few minutes later he arrived at the agreed place.  

"It's not a trap, is it?" he questioned.  

"No Bucky, HYDRA is gone, I promise you.”

"Sorry, I..."  

"Stop blaming yourself for what you were forced to do, you've done the right thing to redeem yourself," you said.  

"I'm not sure..."  

"Believe me, I just need you to take care of Steve for me, okay, like before the war, I know it's hard..."  

"We can't without you..."  

"You must continue without me, there is no other way,” you sentenced.  

"Y/N" he called you.  

"Yes?"  

"Thank you for taking care of Steve, while... You know... I wasn't there," Bucky thanked.  

You smiled.

 Steven Grant Rogers

 Steve was training, it was the fifth punching bag he broke.  

"You should stop this habit of breaking punching bags, Stevie," you said.  

"Doll..."  

"I've always liked to see you train, it's so... Hmm, I have no words to describe it.”

He didn't say anything, he just took your hand. 

"Don't go, please,” he pleaded.  

"I love you, Stevie."

 Thor Odinson

 Thor had in his hands the little teddy bear you had taken from one of the UFO catcher machines, he looked up when he felt a presence in the place.  

"Lady Y/N.” 

“Hi, Beach-boy" you welcome.   

“What...?” 

“I think on this planet, somewhere you could create New Asgard with the survivors, do you like the idea?" you proposed. 

Before Thor could answer, you were already gone

 Steven Grant Rogers

 The nerves invaded Steve and increased every minute, what if a last-minute mission came up and ruined everything if everything was ruined, would you still want to marry him? 

His doubts vanished when he saw you walking down the aisle, fortunately, there was no inconvenience. 

"You're the most beautiful bride in the world,” he whispered to you as you danced the waltz

 Scott Edward Harris Lang y Hope van Dyne

 "Giant-man" 

"Y/N," Scott said surprised.  

"Who are you?" Hope asked. 

"Do you remember Cap?" Scott asked.  

Hope nodded.  

"Well, she's his girlfriend."  

"I’m his wife actually, you must be Hope, Scott told us about you," you corrected.

"Well, this doesn't make sense..."  

They knew what had happened.  

"Nothing has it, maybe you should talk to Steve, and I think there's room in The Avengers."  

Both of them were confused, when Scott was going to ask you what you meant, there was no one else was with them.

 Steven Grant Rogers

 Steve woke up when he heard a noise in the kitchen, he had fallen asleep in the lounge sofa, and he went to see what was going on.  

"Y/N?"  

"Did I wake you? I'm sorry, I can't find my chocolates," you apologized.  

Steve turned to see the clock on the kitchen wall. 

"It's two in the morning..."  

"It's never too late for one," you joked. 

He smiled, always his little jokes were funny, and he loved to see you smile and heard your laughter; he approached the cupboard and pulled the box out of the highest shelf.  

"Do you want to see a movie?" he proposed.

 Clinton “Clint” Francis Barton

 "I keep insisting that it's not safe to have arrows in a house with children," you said.

Clint dropped the bow to the floor, it supposed he was alone, Laura was taking care of their children.  

"Maybe you should go visit the guys, Steve will probably need paternity advice; Nat and the twins miss you so much," you continue.  

"Y/N...”  

"Several times I envied that you had such a beautiful family, sometimes things don't go as you expect," you said.  

Clint looked down at the bow without understanding, when he looked up to ask you something, there was no one.

 Steven Grant Rogers

 He was nervous, it was still supposed to be two weeks before your baby was born, but you'd woke up with contractions.   

"Steve, calm down now, you're not helping me at all," you asked with a grimace of pain. 

"But it was two weeks away...”  

"WELL, THE BABY WANTS TO GET OUT, I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO!” 

"Don't yell doll, we're in a hospital... Auch...” 

You squeezed his hand very tightly when you felt another contraction.  

You had no idea how many hours or minutes had passed, but eventually, the little girl was born. 

"It's so small," Steve said as he carried her.  

"Steve give it to me, I have to feed her," you asked

 Robert Bruce Banner

 "You've never been afraid that one of your experiments will go wrong?" you asked.

“Y/N…”

Bruce watched you for a few seconds.  

"There must be some logical explanation," he said.  

"That doesn't matter, get out of this damn lab and talk to Nat, one of you has to take the first step," you ordered him.  

"She hates me," he said.  

"She doesn't hate you, I had to put up with her talking about you, I don't know how many years, most of the time she described how she wanted to kill you."

"But the other..."  

"She doesn't care, she loves you the way you are, then do it or I'll hit you so hard that it's going to scare the other guy," you threatened. 

"Okay, I just have to turn this off," he said.  

Bruce turned to the team he was working with and then flipped to where you were.

“Y/N?”

 Steven Grant Rogers

 Steve heard Sarah crying, in last weeks he had not felt able to be close to her daughter, Natasha had cared for her at the time, but right now she did not know where the spy was. 

He approached the girl's crib and loaded her to try to reassure her.  

"Shh, calm down little girl, I know you miss Mom, so do I."  

Suddenly the girl calmed down unexpectedly and stretched out her little hand. 

"Mommy" she babbled.  

Steve turned strange, there you were, you approached them and you took your daughter.  

"You put her plushies wrong, she likes to have her stuffed animal on the left, but you put Cap's stuffed one in that place that goes to the right" you explained.

 Maria Hill, Nicholas “Nick” Joseph Fury, and Phillip “Phil” J. Coulson

 "Haven't they decide what they're going to do yet?" Fury asked Maria.  

Maria left the phone on the table before answering. 

"No, no one has dared to talk about the situation," Hill confirmed.  

"Maybe if we tell them there's an option..." 

Whatever they want to try isn't going to work," you said.  

"Y/N?!" the three exclaimed surprised in unison. 

"Guide them, they feel completely lost, they don't want to continue with the proposal," you asked.

 Steven Grant Rogers

 Steve took all the pictures of you and the drawings of you he did, there were too many, he’d give anything for you to come back. 

"I wish you'd never left..."  

Someone knocked on the door, he was hoping it would be you, he needed you, he opened the door and his face showed complete disappointment.  

"Stark wants to talk to everyone, he needs us in the boardroom," Nat told him. 

"Okay," he said, trying to hide things.  

"Are you okay, Steve?"  

"Yes, in a moment I go, I only put in order a few things,” he answered.  

"You're a bad liar."   

"In a moment I will go,” he said again.

 Peter Benjamin Parker

 "Queens Spider-Boy" he greeted.  

"Miss Rogers.”  

"Y/N, just call me Y/N.”  

Peter carved his eyes, maybe he was hallucinating, and there was no way that was possible.  

"I would never think that Tony did it right when he involved you in something that was only to adults, but you should go visit him, he feels a little or maybe very lost," you said.  

"With who are you talking to Peter?" May asked. 

"With...”  

He turned to ask you with his eyes if I should reveal your presence, but you were gone.  

"... Nobody.”

 Steven Grant Rogers

 Thanos had finally arrived in Wakanda, Wanda was trying to destroy Vision's gem, just as Thanos came up to her feeling it.  

You assumed what he was going to do, with your powers you immobilized him. 

"Don't you dare,” you warned.  

He was too strong, but you weren't going to give up so easily, you managed to take away two of the stones -the time and reality stones- as soon as you had them in your possession, you opened a portal to go somewhere else and destroy them.

You concentrated as much as you could, it was difficult, but if Wanda had been able, you could too, all you needed was that Thanos didn't find you, you hadn't left Wakanda, but if in the next few minutes you couldn't destroy them, you'd open another portal to go somewhere else to buy more time.   

"Y/N, status,” Steve required.  

"I've got two, I'll try to destroy them," you reported.  

"Where are you?" he questioned.  

"Just deal with him," you asked.  

You had finally succeeded, those two stones had been destroyed, without all three, you were sure That Thanos could not fulfill his goal, you rose with difficulty, you were exhausted, to destroy them you had needed more powers and energy than you thought.

As soon as you turned around you felt a bump, Thanos had found you.  

"They no longer exist... I destroyed them," you mocked.  

"How you dare?"   

Suddenly you felt a sharp pain in your entrails, the metallic taste in your mouth appeared.  

"No!" Steve yelled.  

He pounded on the enemy to get you off your back, at that moment Thor appeared where you were.  

"Go with her," he told Steve.  

Steve came up to you, the blood kept flowing, he didn't know how to stop the blood, but he had to do something.  

"S-Steve..."  

"Shh, its okay, doll, don't try hard," he asked. 

"I think... take care of Sarah, okay, I love you..."  

Your eyes were heavy, slowly closed. 

 "No... Y/N... no, wake up doll, please..."

 James Rupert “Rhodey” Rhodes

 “Rhodes” you called him.

He stood still, did not know what to do, perhaps he had heard wrong, but no, your voice had been very clear, slowly turned. 

"I made a mistake in signing the Accords..."  

"It’s okay, you thought you were doing the right thing..."  

"I thought the government would know what to do, like acting the right way. But when Thanos..."  

"Okay, now just try to reunite everyone," you asked.

 Steven Grant Rogers

 His mobile phone rang, desperately Steve caught up with him to answer him as quickly as possible.

 “Doll, we need you.”

“Stevie, you know I can’t go back.”

“I haven’t been the same since you left me.”

“Sarah need you.”

"She needs you, she wants her mom back..."  

"You're a good father Stevie, you'll do well, I didn't mean for that to go wrong either, but you know I did it for her."  

"Please come back."

“Stevie.”

“Doll.”

“Please don’t forget me and all the things we did”

"Stevie, you know, this is a very beautiful place" you commented. 

"I want to be with you."  

"No, you must be with our daughter, you know, I met your mom, she's a lovely woman."  

"What?"

 He wasn't sure what he'd heard, those words only saw one of his greatest fears, now he had no choice but to accept what had happened in the battle.

 “I have to go.”

"No, don't go, please, " he pleaded.  

"Tell Sarah about me."  

"I love you too much, never forget it."

 You hung up, you knew time was up, you smiled, at least you'd been given a chance to say goodbye.  

Steve dropped to his knees crying, give anything for you to come back, though he would tell Sarah about you.

 Everyone

 On the board all the tension went away, they had already decided what to do, all the roughness had been filed, and from now on they would be a team.  

They decided to go visit Y/N's tomb, they put the flowers on it. 

 "She wanted us to continue," Nat said.  

"I found this," Steve commented, showing a note. 

"Me too," Wanda replied.  

They all got the same note, none had no idea who had written it or exactly what it meant.

"They deserved a gift for saving the universe and she had not been able to say goodbye to everyone she loves," Uatu replied.

Now they could get on with their lives.

reasons i hate my job:

1. a job in sales is super manipulative of the customers just so you can get some money. ive seen people straight up encourage abusive behavior in order to make a sale

2. typical shift is 11 hours long

3. we have 4 people working in our store but only two tablets. so even if we have 3 people working at a time, not all 3 of us can hepp customers at once

4. schedules are made super last minute, and sometimes i have tp remind the manager to give us the schedule

5. at least one of my 2 days off in a week my manager will ask me to come in anyway

6. manager is irresponsible tbh. i asked her one favor once and she didnt do it and bc of that im not getting the money for my sale

7. manager once went to wisconsin dells and swam in a pool DURING THE PANDEMIC and then didnt take the time to quarantine after. the district manager knew this and didnt do anything to stop it. when i encouraged all my coworkers to get tested after she came back and the store ended up getting closed for 2 weeks, the district manager called it us "wanting to take a 2 week vacation" instead of a safety precaution we had to take because HE AND THE MANAGER didnt take the proper precautions first.

8. our company is two companies that just merged and there are so many errors in the systems ALL THE TIME

9. i just got a 3/10 review from a customer bc i was coughing the whole time, even though i explained to the customer that it's not covid and it's not contageous. this was also my very first review so that's great /s

10. half of the customer service and sales support people we need to call practically every day dont know what theyre doing

11. since the merger they took away our stools and now we have to stand for 10 hours in a day

12. our air conditioning is broken right now and i am overheating

13. they sometimes supply us with water, but usually not. so i have to bring enough water from home to last me 11 hours

14. none of my coworkers voted and im pretty sure theyd vote for trump anyway

15. one coworker is just. super annoying in everything he does. i cannot stand close to him without being uncomfortable

16. oh yeah we cant even stand 6 feet apart when we do our jobs

17. i got written up once because i was in charge during a couple days but the mistakes weren't even made by me

18. my first manager literally believed in stupid questions and it got to the point that i was scared to ask him anything

19. it took 4 months for me to become commissionable for some reason (that being them refusing to teach me), while everyone else becomes commissionable after a week

20. when stores in this company were closed bc someone was tested positive for covid (which happened multiple times), then closed it for one day and had it deep cleaned, then the next day they forced people from other stores to work overtime at that store, instead of just letting the store be closed temporarily

21. when the stores were closed during the quarantine at first, people had to use their paid time off in order to get paid at all

22. my coworkers would put insurance on people's devices without even asking them, which charges them an extra $15 a month

23. everyone here is cishet and i'm just. really uncomfortable talking about anything i like or do bc cant relate

24. one of my coworker doesnt do shit outside of selling. he literally tells me im better at it and leaves it at that. he doesnt even TRY

25. almost every single customer asks me about my cough and i am EXHAUSTED

26. my manager dumps a lot of her work on me and instead of taking the time to work on it herself, half the time she's just talking to people on the phone and getting distracted

27. one time my manager went on her lunch break (we get one hour) and then came back to the store 1 1/2 hours later, and then went to the back room to eat. i'm like??? did you not have time to eat in that 1 1/2 hours???? you know what she said? "oh i was shopping"

28. ive told every one of my coworkers my pronouns. none of them use them. they dont even notice when i try to correct them

29. my manager also randomly deadnames me. like you didnt call the other guy his legal name??? you called him by his preferred name completely fine when he's not even trans??? but this enby you gotta "forget" to call by their chosen name, even though that's all anybody else calls me??? actually, my district manager calls me by my legal name sometimes too thats probs where she got it, but he knows my preferred name too so fuck them

30. when i finally got my log in information to sell things, they misspelled my last name. i had to get it corrected. this prevented me from being able to sell things for a longer time. when the companies officially merged and i got new logins??? they fucking did it again

31. when they gave me my name tag it had my deadname on it so i asked them if i could get one with my preferred name on it. district manager said he'll order one. it's been over a month.

32. two of my coworkers smoke and then i have to stand next to them when they come back in and smell the fucking smoke. im sorry im trying to breatheover here

The New Yorkers (Part 26)

Percy opened the door to Annabeth’s apartment. He shut the door with his foot. Annabeth didn’t even look up. She sat with her feet propped up on the coffee table, alternating between staring at her laptop and the textbook next to her. 

Kicking off his shoes, Percy kissed Annabeth on the forehead and joined her on the couch. She’d been pretty quiet ever since their return from Camp Half-Blood a few days ago. Thankfully, her siblings had heard her out and voted to vacate the Athena Cabin. They’d admitted to Annabeth Athena hadn’t been much of a mother to them either, so when it came to choosing her or choosing to hopefully end a war, it wasn’t much of a choice to make. Annabeth’s sister Sophia had promised to alert the rest of the camp that same evening. Percy knew Annabeth had wanted to stay and deliver the message herself but Chiron had encouraged them to leave and allow the current campers to handle it, as that was how things were meant to be. Annabeth, never the type to want someone to do something she could do herself, was taking it hard. 

“You’re like a dog,” Annabeth sighed, looking down as Percy cuddled up to her and put his head in her lap, nearly knocking her laptop off her legs.

“I missed you, so sue me,” Percy said. He breathed in Annabeth’s lemony smell.

“You saw me this morning,” Annabeth pointed out. At this point, Percy sleeping over was pretty common. Annabeth of course didn’t mind. He couldn’t imagine Jason or Piper were upset about it either. 

Percy glanced at the clock under the TV. “Yeah, but that was a whole ten hours ago,” he whined.  

Despite herself, Annabeth glanced down at her boyfriend and smiled. He was such a doofus. She put her fingers in his hair. “You know,” she said slowly. “Your lease is up in July and I was thinking...”

“Is Annabeth- I like my space- Chase asking me to move in with her?” Percy said, faking an expression of awe. 

“Shut up,” Annabeth said back. “I mean you’re always over here anyway. And... it was going to happen eventually.”

“What makes you think that?” he asked. When Annabeth’s face went red with embarrassment, Percy laughed. He squeezed her tighter. “I’m just joking. Of course, I’d love to move in with you, Wise Girl. As long as you don’t mind a little mess.” Truly, Percy was excited to live with Annabeth. He looked forward to the fun parts like blowing up the kitchen while trying to cook together, and cuddling and watching movies. He didn’t exactly look forward to fighting over who left the toilet lid up, or their differing levels of cleanliness. 

Annabeth shook her head. “I know who I’m dating.”

“Well, at least you’ll have someone around to make sure you eat. I’m sure you’ve been studying all day,” Percy said. “Speaking of which, I ordered a pizza on the way home.”

Annabeth nodded absentmindedly. Even though his gestures were usually small, Annabeth couldn’t ever get enough of how thoughtful Percy was. “Well, you know I have that huge honors paper on the evolution of Revivalism,” Annabeth said.

Percy nodded. He reached across Annabeth to move her textbook out of the way. “I also know you drown yourself in books and studying when you’re stressed out,” he said gently. 

Annabeth sighed. “No, Percy. I have work to do,” Annabeth persisted. “Not everything is about-”

“I know, I know,” Percy said. “I just think- you know, based on the last two wars... I’d hate if we lost ourselves again. Not that I don’t care and I’m not worried, but we can’t let it consume our whole lives.”

Annabeth’s expression softened. She knew her boyfriend was right. Stewing on the matter wasn’t going to help anything, especially if there was nothing that could be done in the moment. Sophia and Chiron were handling things at camp.

“I know, Percy. But my mind wanders and then I feel guilty for not worrying sometimes even though I know worrying isn’t going to fix anything.”

“I get it. But we deserve lives, too. Chiron was right. We’ve made it this far, so we should be at least somewhat happy.” As if on cue, the doorbell rang. Percy let go of Annabeth and got up to open it. After he exchanged a few nice words with the pizza guy, he returned to the living room and set the box on the table. Annabeth got up to get plates. 

“Hey, I’m going to change real quick.” Percy called. 

“Okay.” It made Annabeth happy to know that in a few months, she and Percy would be living together full-time. Instead of him having a few changes of clothes in her apartment, all his things would be there. They’d be living like a real couple, happy and discovering life. If the gods’ alternative plans didn’t completely destroy their lives first. Annabeth tried to push the though out of her mind. She couldn’t think about that. She couldn’t give attention to her mother either, or else Athena’s presence would start to grow again. 

Annabeth plopped down on the couch. She opened the pizza box. Only when she smelled the food did she realize she hadn’t eaten since she’d come home that afternoon. Her mind had been reeling about schoolwork, and Percy, and everything else. Hazel had IMed and promised she’d get back in touch when Frank returned from Camp Jupiter in two days. Annabeth tried to take Percy’s advice. After all, it was a Friday night. They should be doing what any other young couple did- watch movies, hang out, just love each other. After all, who knew how much time they had left? Annabeth hoped it was eternity, but she knew better than almost anyone the next day wasn’t promised. 

Percy walked back into the living room. He stopped when he noticed Annabeth staring at him dumbly. She sat there, frozen, her plate in one hand a pizza slice in the other. “What?” Percy asked. 

“We should get married,” Annabeth blurted out.

Percy stared at Annabeth, mouth agape. It was unexpected but he knew she wasn’t joking. “Um, not that I don’t want to marry you, but where did that come from?” Percy asked cautiously, sitting next to her on the couch. He had half a mind to lay his hand on her forehead to see if she had a fever.

Annabeth shrugged. “I mean, we love each other,” she said casually. “And it’s not like we haven’t talked about it.”

“Yeah,” Percy agreed. He reached for a piece of pizza, trying not to make it obvious he was in absolute shock. “When we were older. And besides, we can’t get married before Hazel and Frank. That would be kind of rude.”

Annabeth pursed her lips like she hadn’t thought about that. “We could just go to the courthouse or something, Percy,” Annabeth suggested. “I don’t want the whole big wedding thing. I just want you. We don’t even have to tell them just yet.”

Percy was silent. He was thinking about how to approach the situation gently. Just minutes ago, Annabeth had asked him to move in, and now she wanted him to marry her. Both things had been completely out of the blue. Even though he loved Annabeth probably more than he loved himself, he knew she wasn’t just asking because she was eager to take their relationship to the next step. She was stressed, and scared, and wanting to grab hold to Percy in any way she could. 

“You think I’m going to leave you,” Percy realized. “And I’m not. I swear it on the River Styx.”

Annabeth’s eyebrows wrinkled. “Percy, don’t,” she said quietly. 

“But that’s why you’re asking, isn’t it? Because you’re scared.”

Annabeth stopped chewing. “I mean, I also love you, but don’t let that be a deciding factor,” she said bitterly.

“Of course, I know that,” Percy said, trying to keep cool. “But I also know that you think whenever things get a little difficult, I think about leaving you. I never do, you have to trust me on that.”

Annabeth didn’t know what to say. By the look on her face, Percy knew he was right. “I’m just saying it wouldn’t hurt,” she persisted. “Even if I know you aren’t going to leave me, it would feel even better to have something-”

“Permanent?” Percy guessed, thinking back to the conversations they had when they were teenagers. After everything that had happened, that seemed like decades ago.

Annabeth nodded. She didn’t have anything else to say. 

Admitted, things had been moving quickly since they’d gotten their memories of each other back. Things still felt new to Percy since he had to go through meeting Annabeth all over again, but things also felt very much the same. He didn’t know how to explain it well. He’d become accustomed to only dating her for a few months, only to realize they’d been together for years, and best friends longer than that. They had talked about marriage, and kids, and being a family, so Annabeth wasn’t out of line to bring it up again. And, shocked as he was, Percy would be a liar if he said he didn’t want those things too. What could it hurt if it happened a little earlier than planned?

“I’m not upset,” Percy assured her. “These last few months have been crazy but I get how you feel. I know it’s like we just lost each other, so things feel kind of fragile. But I promise it’s only made me love you more.”

Annabeth finally turned to look at him. “I love you too, Percy,” she said. There was still anticipation in her voice, like she was still waiting for her question to be answered. 

Percy sighed and leaned back on the couch. “I always thought I’d be the one to propose,” he started with a small smile. “I mean I figured I’d goof it up but still. I didn’t think it would come from you sitting on the couch looking like an absolute bum eating pizza.”

Annabeth hit him on the shoulder, but a smile crept across her face. “I mean, when have we ever done anything the normal way?”

Percy shrugged. He stared at his girlfriend- well, his soon to be wife. He couldn’t help but smile at the unexpected thought. “Good point. I guess we shouldn’t start now. Let’s do it, Annabeth. Let’s get married.”

hey if you watch taylor swift's documentary miss americana, she talks a lot about how she was always praised when she was younger for being the "ideal celebrity" because she never brought up politics or anything. she was also influenced by her childhood heroes, the dixie chicks, being blacklisted completely when they criticized bush, and she was terrified of the same thing happening to her. she was under a lot of pressure from the media to be "a good girl" and stay quiet (1/?)

her first time speaking up politically was during the 2018 midterms, where she openly supported one candidate over another and encouraged people to register to vote, which increased voter registration by a huge amount. she made the post because the other candidate was openly homophobic, racist and misogynist, and she couldn't handle not speaking up. there's a scene in the documentary where her dad, and a bunch of her producers, record label, etc. are strongly telling her not to make the post (2)

but she says she has to go through with it and argues about it with them. they're worried she could lose a lot of fans and that it could be a major safety issue for her (since she already has huge issues with people breaking into her houses or stalking her). she answers that the candidate she is opposing wants to repeal protections for women against stalking and abuse and stuff like that, and that she has to take a stand. with 'you need to calm down' she was criticized a lot for being 'performative' but the reason she did it is she thought she had already been pretty open about being accepting of the lgbtq+ community, but her really good friend todrick hall was TERRIFIED to come out to her because he didn't know what her reaction would be, and she realized she needed to make a bigger statement if one of her close friends was completely unaware of her position on the matter. todrick helped her direct the music video, and she asked a lot of members of the lgbtq+ community if what she was doing was ok, and asked for their opinions on the song and music video to make sure she was being an ally and not overstepping. she also got as many lgbtq+ people in the music video as possible, purposefully collabed with brendan urie and spotlighted lesser known lgbtq+ artists. she also hand selected the drag queens in the music video and they were all shocked she knew who they were

anyways I know you don't like taylor and I'm not trying change that or excuse her actions - she definitely could have done more, sooner. I'm just trying to explain why she didn't speak up sooner and why she realized she had to. on social media, she's also been taking care to spotlight lesser known female poc and lgbtq+ artists that she loves and has really just been making an effort to be an ally in every way possible. she's definitely not perfect, but she's trying! (last one I swear lol)

She’s never claimed to be an activist & imo that’s an odd expectation to put on her. she’s a musician first and occasionally talks about politics on the side just like most celebrities? Not saying she’s above criticism but she faces uncommonly intense scrutiny compared to other people at her level of fame. People make absurd claims abt her with NO evidence and it becomes gospel among people who hated her to begin with. I’m not trying to be rude but the biases against her deserve critical thought

for the record im coming at this as a former swiftie, so this is not me irrationally hating on her

i haven’t seen the documentary since i dont have netflix and also haven’t been a fan in a long time, but i have seen the scene you talked about since it was going around on twitter months ago. the general consensus was that it was highly staged (most likely, given the nature of the documentary) and also dripping with privilege. 

my issue with her isn’t that she was unproblematic but silent, but that she was notoriously problematic AND silent. i’d argue that the first time she really became political was in 2014 when she began to embrace feminism coincidentally as the 1989 era began, but the problem was that she still didnt seem to grasp what it actually was, given that she paraded around a group of women she stopped hanging out with like a year later and used them to tear down katy perry in the bad blood video. 

like, i understand her being young and afraid to stand up for something when her career was first beginning. but after years and years and years, especially by the time she was willing to stand up to misogynistic men in 2014 and beyond, she still didn’t really do much else, you know? and a lot of it always seemed to center around her. 

but anyway, with you need to calm down, todd in the shadows made an excellent video about it here. maybe im biased because im critical of her work regardless, but as a bi woman, i found the song and video insulting and condescending. shade never made anybody less gay is easily one of her worst if not the worst line she’s ever written. she conflates her internet haters with violent homophobes and then ends the video with her ending the feud with katy yet it was released during pride and meant to be some sort of anthem when born this way came out in 2011 and, while undeniably flawed, did a much better job of getting the point across. taylor’s contemporaries have been saying the same stuff, but like, 10+ years earlier.

i guess for me, im just really tired of people praising her for doing this that others have done for much, much longer. im fine with her making a post like she did for the midterms, it felt genuine! but other stuff like you need to calm down comes off as patronizing and that scene from the documentary feels like it tries to position her as this almost like katniss figure which is just....tone deaf considering people like the ferguson protesters have been murdered for years. but thats all just me.

BACKGROUND

born and raised in greenwood, south carolina to oliver and lauren leblanc. her parents were high school sweethearts who were voted most likely to get married and have a dozen kids running around

they stopped at 2 because they jus... their kids were a handful but rory will tell you they stopped after her bc they hit perfection :~) 

her mom’s family teetered between lower-middle class, her mom entering a bunch of pageants to bring in some extra cash for them. 

her dad’s side on the other hand, is where all the connections are baby!!

the leblancs come from a long long line of being wrapped up in the political world. governors, members of the state senate, mayors, advisers... you name it - a leblanc has had that position. 

her dad’s goals were no different than the rest of his family’s ... some would say even bigger bc he wants to do what no other leblanc was able to do, which is... run for president. (yes hello.. rory as the future first daughter?)

growing up her parents were honestly... not the best. like above all else they put oliver’s career above their kids and it wasn’t not being there for an important recital, or a parent-teacher night; it was being there for all the wrong reasons.

 every little thing they did was calculating to make the leblancs look like the perfect family. hugs and words of encouragement loud enough to filter through the room aimed at their darling children only for them to turn cold and criticise every single thing they did wrong as soon as they got into the car. it was pretty clear that oliver and lauren were a team, and their kids were just props. 

when rory was 12, lauren started making monthly appointments at the hair salon to dye rory’s hair blonde... she had a standing appointment every tenth of the month to have her roots touched up

rory’s mom jus rly... pushed rory on her looks and enrolled her in pageants, debutante balls, anything that showed off rory’s looks... lauren pushed her towards it.

rory and her brother declan stayed in their hometown for school until college bc their parents thought it made them look like more of wholesome family so instead of sending them off to boarding schools in london or new york, they opted for private schools in south carolina

both of them were of course pushed into going to well renowned schools, their grandfather had pushed them into going to yates since he, himself had been part of calloway and they were practically legacies and while declan followed thru with it... rory watched the cinderella story one too many times and like hilary duff..... sis went to princeton for political science!!!

only it ended up in flames bc tbh she was like a bull in a china shop, the freedom of not having her parents around to judge every single thing she did? or pushing her into doing things she hated? she od’d on FREEDOM. rory rly just did her own thing, kinda spiralled out of control.. never hard drugs but lots of drinking and partying.

she ended up getting put on probation and was flunking nearly every course. the pressure really got to her (like she knew her parents would get involved if you got kicked out or if she failed all her courses) so she ended up plagiarising an essay ... but gueSS what!! she was caught and her parents got involved anyways.

her parents ended up being able to keep things ... quiet by paying off the teacher that had caught her. the dean also agreed to stay mum about it (after accepting a hefty cheque), so nothing ever went of her record, nothing would ever be documented of this mishap.

but... it’s likely people still talk and while rumors can’t be proven, it still stopped rory from getting into yale, harvard and columbia when she tried

finally with her grandfather’s pull and the promise to build yates a new library with the next 5 years... rory was accepted just as declan had graduated. 

PRESENT

pulled up to yates in her vintage baby blue mercedes benz convertible from the 60′s

she’s brand new to yates, and switched out of political science.

out of all the activities and hobbies that her parents tried to push her into, dance was the only one she actually enjoyed doing and fell in love with 

her parents let her major in it, as long as she did a double major.. so sis took sociology because why not?

spent her summer dancing with the new york ballet company in their production of a midsummer’s night dream. 

honestly.. loved it but also was lowkey bummed out she missed out on a proper summer

right before declan had graduated, rory had come up for a campus tour and ended up partying at yates for a weekend

probably got herself into a bit of trouble, and probably made a nice little impression on a few people!

PERSONALITY

honestly.. chaotic good. she’s always been a little more on the wilder side than declan.. a little more carefree and daring and just always needed to be told to behave

in fact has a tattoo that says BEHAVE  on her forearm, that she got one night back in princeton. 

that said, she’s very good at playing her part in the family

dubbed as the golden girl... bc she is just that kind of girl that has a magnetic pull to her, a smile that could combat the sun and just naturally very charming and genuinely nice?? very good a convincing you without being manipulative about it

does only angel by harry styles play when she walks in the room? possibly.

Part 3

An hour or so later a man wearing jeans and a leather jacket walked up to Sentinel. Only one of his hands was gloved, which Emilia found weird.

"Sentinel, mind if I keep her company?" Sentinel shook his head. "Go take a break, and don't worry. She won't go anywhere." Sentinel nodded and walked off. He walked into the waiting room. "Don't mind Sentinel. He got his name because he's as silent as one. He was born without a voice box."

"Oh." Emilia said. This man looked to be about her age. He held out his right hand which was the non-gloved hand.

"I'm Wolfe by the way." He said. Emilia shook his hand.

"I'm Emilia."

"You're new here aren't you?"

"Kinda..."

"Ah, so you must be the one the Council must choose whether to keep or change."

"Yeah."

"Fair enough. Stand with your hands behind your back. Never look away. Speak only when spoken to and end sentences with sir, miss or madam. Trust me, it'll help."

"Thank you. Reverend told me about the standing one."

"Reverend eh? I guess they told you he's been in your shoes?"

"Yeah."

"They lied. For him it wasn't about keeping or erasing his memory. It was about keeping or not keeping like virtually everyone else here."

"Oh. So I'm different?"

"I'd say so. How'd you end up here though?"

"Got attacked by a vampire."

"Ah. They're bloody bastards those things. Well, most of them anyway. Very few vampires are good."

"Fair enough."

"How long have you been waiting here?"

"An hour or so."

"Well, you surely have a long day ahead of you." His phone beeped. He checked the message. "Sorry, I have to go."

"It's ok." He smiled and walked to a nearby person.

"Lament, watch her." He said to the man he was talking to them yelled to another. "Rose, go find Sentinel please and tell him his break's over in thirty.” Then he walked off. Lament grunted then assumed the same position Sentinel did. Emilia was back to being alone and waiting. Half an hour later Sentinel returned with a handful of books and magazines for Emilia. He also gave her a glass of water and retook his post.

 Sometime around five in the afternoon Emilia was woken up. Sentinel was above her. He smiled and gestured to outside the hallway. Emilia wasn't even aware of the fact that she had fallen asleep. She followed Sentinel back to the room she was in earlier in the day. Sentinel stopped outside the door and opened one for her. She stepped in and the door was shut leaving Sentinel outside. She walked towards the three chairs where the Council members sat and where Morbius and Reverend were standing. She stood with her hands behind her back and waited.

"Welcome back Miss Emilia." Mallow said to her.

"Thank you madam." Emilia said with a nod.

"I suppose you're wondering on how we voted correct?" Grey asked.

"Yes sir."

"Very well. It was an easy decision. Six to none." Bane said.

"Sir, you said six?"

"That I did. Yes, we had someone else vote. My son actually. We called him in to cast a vote."

"That makes more sense."

"Yes. As I said six to none. Six for and none against. All six of us chose to make you an Agent of the Haven." Emilia struggled to keep the smile off of her face. She still needed to act professional.

"As an Agent, you will be taught to fight with your hands and weapons. You will, essentially, need a handler of sorts. Someone to teach you. Mr Dawn and Gregor's son stepped up to that task." Mallow told her.

"Lastly, as you may or may not have guessed our names are not normal names. We change them to cast our old lives aside. It is encouraged that you do so too." Grey said.

"Am I able to only drop my last name and keep my first?"

"Yes. From now on you shall be known as Emilia, Agent of the Haven training to become a Hunter." Bane declared.

"Now Mr Dawn, take your leave with Reverend and Miss Emilia. We have other things to do as of now." Mallow said and all three Council members stood in unison. Morbius and Reverend led Emilia out of the room. They walked out into the hallway.

"Congratulations on becoming an Agent Emilia." Reverend said and gat her a pat on the shoulder.

"Thank you Reverend."

"Please, call me Rev. Now I must go. Adieu." He gave a little bow and left.

"Yes, congratulations sweet one." Morbius said.

"Thank you. So who is Bane's son?"

"One of the greatest Hunter's to have existed. He's the strongest one here. No other Hunter can come close to him."

"Oh. Does he let it get to his head?"

"Nah, that's why he's liked. Come, I'll take you to him." Morbius led Emilia farther into the Haven. They arrived at what looked to be a gym.

"This is essentially his second office." Morbius said to her.

"Second office?" She asked.

"Correct. He and I have our own offices. All Grand Hunters get one."

"That I do. Hello again Emilia. Judging by the fact that you're still here means you're now an Agent correct?" Wolfe asked her.

"Yes." She responded. Morbius was confused.

"You two know each other already?" He asked.

"Correct. I met her in the waiting room before I was whisked away to sit in the Council's Room and vote. Every time something like this is happening Im told I won't have to vote, then they bring me in. Every single time." Wolfe told them.

"Jane Mallow said you and Morbius stepped up to be my handlers." Emilia said.

"Trainer is a better word." Morbius muttered.

"I said no such thing." Wolfe sighed. "Gregor is trying to get me to have friends. Anyway, sure I'll help train you. Also, how much does she know about everything Morbius?"

"Extremely little."

"Well that comes first. Your office or mine?"

"Mine."

"Alright. I'll get changed and meet you there." Wolfe grabbed his bag that was on a seat and walked out. Emilia turned to Morbius.

"Wolfe is Gregor's son?" She asked him.

"Not quite. He's adopted and Wolfe knows it. He never referred to Bane as 'Dad' only 'Father'."

"Oh."

"Yes. If you wish to know then ask him, but do not expect to tell you everything. He holds more secrets than most." Morbius left without waiting for Emilia's reaction. She spun around and followed Morbius to his office.

Since President Biden has taken office, the National Republican Congressional Committee has honed in on the impacts of closing the Keystone XL pipeline and delays in reopening schools.

“It’s going to come down to two different agendas: one is about freedom one is about having the right to self-determine your economic freedom, your individual liberties. The other one is about big government,” National Republican Congressional Committee chair Tom Emmer said in a call with reporters on Wednesday.;

The party is;targeting 47 Democrats and needs a net gain of five seats to flip the chamber. The committee has split its targets into three categories: battleground districts where Mr. Biden lost or won by less than 5%; districts where House Democrats trailed his margins or where they won by less than 10%; and districts in states expected to add or lose congressional districts.

“Liz Cheney not losing her position really showed, ‘Okay we’re going to move on,'” she said.

There are all sorts of Constitutional questions posed by these ideas. One very important thing we should have all taken away from both the 2016 and 2020 presidential contests is that the two major parties are in virtual equipose . The ideological sorting-out of the two parties since the 1960s has in turn led to extreme partisan polarization, a decline in ticket-splitting and and in number of genuine swing voters. Among other things, this has led to an atmosphere where Republicans have paid little or no price for the extremism theyve disproportionately exhibited, or for the bad conduct of their leaders, most notably the 45th president.

Indeed, the polarized climate encourages outlandish and immoral base mobilization efforts of the sort Trump deployed so regularly. Some Republicans partisans shook their heads sadly and voted the straight GOP ticket anyway, And to the extent there were swing voters they tended strongly to believe that both parties were equally guilty of excessive partisanship, and/or that all politicians are worthless scum, so why not vote for the worthless scum under whom the economy hummed?

The bottom line is that anyone who assumes Republicans are in irreversible decline in presidential elections really hasnt been paying attention.

For Republicans, the only goal must be to win back the U.S. House and Senate in the 2022 midterm elections.

That should be easy. In November, even though Donald Trump was not reelected president, the down-ballot races boded well for the GOPs future. But we Republicans are not acting like we want to win anything. So where do we go from here?

Of late, Republicans have separated themselves into several distinct groups, each with a different attitude and view.

For one group, retribution is the goal. These enthusiastic Trump supporters, distressed by the seven Republican U.S. senators who found Trump guilty in his second impeachment trial, are in a very unhappy mood. While the Republican Committee of Lancaster County did not pass a vote to censure Sen. Pat Toomey, other local committees did. The Pennsylvania Republican Party rebuked, rather than censured, Toomey.

The other senators who voted with Toomey to convict Trump were subjected to a variety of admonishments, as was, most notably, U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. It began to look like an inquisition.

This is very serious. A very large group of Republican voters, numbering in the millions throughout the United States, are similarly angry. They continue to challenge the validity of President Joe Bidens election, wrongly insisting victory was stolen from Trump in November.

In other words, the fight goes on and many solid Republicans are on the proverbial chopping block.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, a state-by-state scheme to effectively abolish the Electoral College without changing the Constitution, hasnt seen support from a single red or purple state.

The Plausible Solution: Just Win More

Whether the public sees Democratic demands for these structural changes as overdue or overreaching, the key point is that they are currently exercises in futility. The only plausible road to winning their major policy goals is to win by winning. This means politics, not re-engineering. They need to find ways to take down their opponents, and then be smarter about using that power while they have it.

They certainly have issues to campaign on. In the few weeks, we have learned that some of Americas wealthiest people have paid only minimal or no federal income tax at all. Even as the Wall Street Journal editorial writers were responding to a Code Red emergency , the jaw-dropping nature of the reportfollowed by a New York Times piece about the impotence of the IRS to deal with the tax evasions of private equity royaltyconfirmed the folk wisdom of countless bars, diners, and union halls: the wealthy get away with murder.

Of course this is a whole lot easier said than done. A political climate where inflation, crime and immigration are dominant issues has the potential to override good economic news. And 2020 already showed what can happen when a relative handful of voices calling for defunding the police can drown out the broader usage of economic fairness.

For The People Act Matters

Gerrymandering, under state laws, can be done by the party in power. That means the GOP has a significant advantage as they control the legislature in most states. In some states, redistricting is done by an independent commission, but that’s a rarity. According to Ballotpedia, the GOP has a trifecta in 23 states, compared to the 15 by Democrats.

In a bid to break their dominance over redistricting, the Democrats have introduced HR 1 or the For The People Act. Amongst other things, the bill bans partisan gerrymandering and state-level voting restrictions, which would make it harder for the GOP to limit voting rights. So naturally, the party filibustered the bill in the Senate. TargetSmart CEO Tom Bonier told Mother Jones, “Absent the passage of HR1, the GOP is poised to gerrymander their way to a House majority.”;

If HR 1 is passed, it would abolish partisan gerrymandering by state governments in favor of independent commissions. It also invalidates existing maps that have the intent or effect of unduly favoring or disfavoring one political party over another. This is an issue that has to be fixed in Congress because as the Supreme Court ruled in 2019, federal courts cannot review partisan gerrymandering. There is however some hope for Democrats. A stripped-down version of HR1 has been proposed by Sen Joe Manchin. It does get rid of some of the more controversial measures but keeps in the ban on partisan gerrymandering.;

Even if voting patterns remain the same, Republicans could still win more seats in Congress through redistricting

In Washington, the real insiders know that the true outrages are whats perfectly legal and that its simply a gaffe when someone accidentally blurts out something honest.

And so it barely made a ripple last week when a Texas congressman said aloud whats supposed to be kept to a backroom whisper: Republicans intend to retake the US House of Representatives in 2022 through gerrymandering.

We have redistricting coming up and the Republicans control most of that process in most of the states around the country, Representative Ronny Jackson told a conference of religious conservatives. That alone should get us the majority back.

Hes right. Republicans wont have to win more votes next year to claim the US House.

In fact, everyone could vote the exact same way for Congress next year as they did in 2020 when Democratic candidates nationwide won more than 4.7m votes than Republicans and narrowly held the chamber but under the new maps that will be in place, the Republican party would take control.

If Republicans aggressively maximize every advantage and crash through any of the usual guardrails and they have given every indication that they will theres little Democrats can do. And after a 2019 US supreme court decision declared partisan gerrymandering a non-justiciable political issue, the federal courts will be powerless as well.

How The Republicans Can Win The White House In 2016

The Republican Party finds itself in an odd place heading into the 2016 presidential election. Theyve made tremendous gains at the state level under President Obama, hold a near-unbreakable majority in the House, and now control the Senate as well.

But theyve come up short by a significant margin in the last two presidential elections, where turnout is higher and the electorate is more diverse, and have plenty going against them in the next one.

Presidential elections are unpredictable and it often appears that one party can’t lose until it does. Democrats bounced back from three demoralizing blowout losses to win in 1992 against an incumbent, President George H.W. Bush, who seemed unbeatable earlier in his presidency. Republicans could do the same in 2016.

So what does the GOP have to do to finally crack the White House? These are some broad theories on how they win:

Cut Into the Democratic Base

The guiding principle behind a number of Republican candidates is that the party can only win when it reverses its losing margins with Democratic-leaning groups. That means winning converts among the most important planks of President Obamas winning coalition young voters, minorities, and single women.
