So, because I'm in a bit of a shitty mood due to a whole lot of work I have to do before my break, and I don't feel like piling onto the already large list of what's wrong with the Helluva Boss series - and also, because everyone liked the Beelzebub list, I decided to do a quick list of my top five favorite songs from Helluva Boss. Despite the questionable writing, characters, world-building, creator, etc, the songs are actually truly solid when they want to be, and for that, I'm willing to give praise.

𝟏.❞𝕂𝕝𝕠𝕨𝕟 𝔹𝕚𝕥𝕔𝕙❞ 𝐛𝐲, 𝐆𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐳 & 𝐆𝐥𝐚𝐦

❥ Putting aside my general love for these girls, however brief their appearances were in the episode, this song was just incredible to me! The dancing was smooth, the beat was heavily reminiscent to Kpop, which I just love anyway, the visuals were stunning, in addition to their overall designs, and I'm honestly just sucker for fish-based characters since they have a whole siren aesthetic going on. Speaking of, many people find these twins to be reminiscent to The Dazzlings, from EQ Girls, and that's just the cherry on top for me! The full version truly makes this even better and, overall, I think the song was brilliant in establishing the whole rebranding of Mammon and how these two pose great threats to Fizz, much like those badass singer villains in Saturday morning shows. You know, the one's everyone ends up simping for at some point in their childhood. Anyway, because of the new episode, this song managed to shoot its way to the top of my faves, knocking down my original fave in the process!

𝟐. ❞𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣❜𝕤 𝔹𝕒𝕝𝕝❞𝐁𝐲, 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐳𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐛

❥ This song walked, so "Cotton Candy" could trip and fall on the scalding hot pavement. Apologies if I sound dramatic, and you happen to like Cotton Candy, but the amount of disappointment I feel towards the fact that we didn't get this song is indescribable. Now of course, I understand WHY we couldn't (again, waste of time when someone could've just gotten Rochelle in the first place 😑) but I digress. Aside from the fact that a specific line in the song gives clear clarification of who the hell the flying fox is, it feels like the cool, degenerative (said affectionately) party girl song that I would've actually liked to hear.

❥ To me, it's reminiscent of "Cannibal" and "Die Young", and I feel like both themes generally tie into what we think of a Modern Beelzebub to be like. The beat, the shift in pace of the lyrics that brings out the fast party vibe, the fact that it felt like a real pop song that didn't take fifteen minutes to get through just to see the rest of the episode – all these are what made this song my former #1 favorite, now my #2. And the "non-binary specimen" line was a cool, quick inclusion to me.

𝟑. ❞𝕁𝕦𝕘𝕘𝕝𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕀𝕫 ℂ𝕠𝕠𝕝❞ 𝐛𝐲, 𝐌𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧

❥ I know this is technically too small to be an actual full song, but I still loved it regardless. It was really cool in its short runtime for the following reasons: the Tom Hardy's vocals (idk what it is, but something about Australian accents that just sounds satisfying, especially when singing), the praising of the Twins, and the satisfaction of seeing Fizz squirm a bit. Apologies to any of you who like Fizz. I don't hate him per se, but rather, I'm just bitter that we're loosing out on other character development because of him and Ozzy. And, I prefered Robo Fizz who was an unrelenting asshole and not another UWU boy that, imo, there are one too many of in Hell.

❥ Anyway, it was cool seeing more visuals of the Greed Ring stage. And seeing the spider visuals that are associated with Mammon. I understand if some people thought it was kinda tacky, but I personally think it could work if assessed the right way. (Hint: I'll be explaining more about this in later Greed Ring Headcanons and/or Mammon Headcanons.)

𝟒. ❞𝕍𝕒𝕔𝕒𝕪 𝕥𝕠 𝔹𝕠𝕟𝕖𝕥𝕠𝕨𝕟❞ 𝐛𝐲, 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐤𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐝𝐚𝐲

❥ Admittedly, I was a bit iffy on whether or not I should include this considering my feelings on Verosika. I don't hate her by any means considering, you know, it's Blitzø, but she has nothing going on for her and her one note personality just feels unfair to her considering what she had to deal with. That being said, I realized that I'm judging based on musical appeal and not entirely on character, so I said "fuck it" and put this as #4.

❥ While notably slower and softer than the other songs, I enjoyed it after revisiting it. The pink aesthetic and visuals were just gorgeous to me.

❥ It's slow, playful, and it reminds me a lot of Doja Cat and her songs, and I really loved that. Above all else, it was soothing and nice, and I feel like it was wasted on the Spring Break episode though as, while the episode introduced it a bit more worldbuilding, it felt like a whole load of nothing considering it all happened in one place and that same worldbuilding went out the window almost immediately. Still love the song though. Honestly, if there was a musical battle between Verosika and the Twins, I'd struggle to pick a winner.

𝟓. ❞ℍ𝕠𝕦𝕤𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝔸𝕤𝕞𝕠𝕕𝕖𝕦𝕤❞ 𝐛𝐲, 𝐀𝐬𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐮𝐬 & 𝐅𝐢𝐳𝐳

❥ While my opinion of Asmodeus has wavered lately, his debut song was incredible! I loved the deep vocals and jazzy tunes used in the song, and I didn't completely mind the bits with Fizz in it given all that's happened. Above all else, I adored how they called out Stolas publically in the episode. Shame it couldn't stay that way. Seriously though, as sexy as the man's voice is his design just doesn't fit that. But, yeah, that's my opinion.

Right, after complaining about not being able to talk about my WIPs in the tags of that last post, I think I should be the change I want to be in the world and just talk about my WIPs. Feel free to ask questions and/or talk about your own WIPs!

My writing process is that I have a lot of WIPs that I bounce between, and I often don't look at any individual one for months at a time, so these'll just be the ones that are on my mind right now - but this is no guarantee that you'll see any of them any time soon.

Revealatrix

Ladynoir. This has been in the works for a really, really long time, far longer than necessary, but I think I got a way to write the finale that I like now. The basic idea: An Akuma removes people's clothing, including Ladybug and Chat Noir. This leads to sexy times.

Just like "thorny situations", this is one where I feel like the fandom should be full of fics with similar premises since it's so obvious, but somehow it's not, so it's up to me to fix that. A big issue for me is not simply writing Thorny Situations again (more or less) and making it feel distinct. It's also really interesting to do something with a supervillain and action sequences and villain speeches.

Trans!Adrien/Nino

A prompt fill for the ML Kink Meme that has just gotten way too long because these two are cute together and I can't stop writing them being cute together. Adrien has been turned into a girl by an akuma, is very happy, and wants to try out what that means (and eventually discovers that she prefers it and is actually trans). I am rather scared about writing something insensitive by accident, so I'll definitely need a beta reader for this one before publication. But it's fun to write something that is just pure joy for everyone involved.

Nino/Everyone

What it says on the tin. This will be multiple losely connected chapters. So far I have first drafts for Nino/Sabrina (the first one) and Nino/Adrinette. I have solid concepts and some stuff written for Nino/Chloé and Nino/Gang of Secrets (sort of). I have vague ideas for Nino/Kagami and Nino/Marinette (solo). Nino/Lila is going to be the most challenging and fun by far. I literally thought of a vague Nino/Clara Nightingale concept right now. I have no good idea for Nino/Adrien yet but I know the story would be incomplete without it.

While planning this I realised this'll be a weird look into my mind; not (primarily) in a sexy way, just in me showing you what I find funny. I am planning to get weird with this one, in ways that are hopefully entertaining. Nino is great for putting into situations, and this will be all about situations.

Oh, and don't worry: Every chapter will include some sort of Nino/Alya action. And obviously Nino will not be the one who has the most sex in this story, that will still be Marinette.

Chloé/Sabrina Lingerie

Basic story: Chloé has seen Sabrina naked, and without any self-reflection whatsoever, decides she wants to see that again. Her secret trick: She buys Sabrina lingerie. Sabrina is elated at the attention, but as things get heated, both of them are unable to articulate what they really want.

This one is interesting and got away from me a little bit. I think it's too juicy to do in a one-shot, even an extended one, so this will be a long-ish fic. I don't have the time or patience for one of these big 300k things, but maybe six or seven chapters or so? The problem is that as a long fic, I need to really work harder on the characters and their arc and their conflict. It's not hard to have a conflict here, but how does it break free, how do they resolve it? No idea yet. But I do have the first two chapters written and parts of the third. I won't post this one (or Nino/Everyone) until I have at least a first draft of all the chapters I've planned, so this will likely not happen this year - I think, anyway.

This is not an exhaustive list of all my WIPs. I have plenty in the planning stages (e.g. Adrigaminette maid thing, the missing Marichat chapter of the nipple piercings series, Adrinette accidental nudity and more), but those are the ones I'm most likely to work on in the coming month or two. But either way, no promises, I fully reserve the right to write nothing or something completely different as well. If you have questions or want to see a sample of any of these, let me know!

Okay, so don't ask for specifics (because I don't have any) but I have a half-baked book idea simmering on the back burner. It's a mid-1800s horror western that somehow will involve a disease-based cult, an ex-freak show runaway, a working girl turned disguise-master vigilante, and lots of body horror. That's all I got so far. If I think about it too hard I fear I will abandon The Sepulcher and I can't allow myself to do that.

No hate to those who partake, but I despise reading dark romance because of my own personal preferences. I'm also not big on dark fantasy, high fantasy, or contemporary romance. Like I said, just a me thing. If you read/write that, hell yeah, go forth and do so.

🍸 character who inspired your mc

Phillips actually doesn't really have a solid source of inspiration. To be quite frank, and to nobody's surprise, he started as a character that allowed me to work through my own insecurities, naivete, and fears. Since then he has taken on a lot of traits that I find interesting and/or admirable in others, whether real or fictional, and has become something of his own--thankfully. That being said, only one of my characters is even partially based on someone I know in real life: Clement Murphy, who is based in part on my maternal grandfather.

🌱 book that inspired your wip

This is going to be lengthy and I apologize.

No singular thing (and certainly no book) inspired my WIP; I've loved horror and ships all my life, and it made sense that I would combine the two at some point. I grew up on movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Jaws, Master and Commander, and other similar, boat-y, high-tension films. I also played the game Return of the Obra Dinn a few years back and it changed how I see videogames--I cannot impress upon you just how much that game encouraged my love of complex narrative, non-linear storytelling, and mysterious, often gruesome deaths in stories.

About a year and a half into starting my book (and most of the way done with it), I watched AMC's The Terror at a coworker's suggestion and I absolutely fell in love (Terror mutuals I see you). I can't say it's inspired anything in my own writing (nor would I want to emulate something in fear of idea-thieving or unwarranted piggybacking), but I CAN safely say that it has given me hope that a dark, historical, ship-based and isolated horror setting is in enough demand that I have a chance in publishing. (I also read the book by Dan Simmons--the show was better, but that's neither here nor there.)

If there's anything theme-wise that inspired my WIP, it's the horror movies I watched way too young: Jaws, The Shining, The Thing (1982), and others of a similar ilk. I am scared pissless of isolation, watching people around me lose their minds, losing control of myself, freezing temperatures, drowning, and claustrophobic settings and situations. All of which I found early on truly frightened me--it makes sense that these themes end up in my own writing!

What was your first ever story idea? What happened to it? it was a fantasy novel about an elf girl. i've never read a book where the main character is an elf, so i decided to write one myself. i did actually end up writing it; it was the first novel i ever wrote and i was 14 when i did it (still proud of that; it was 230 pgs in a word document btw). anyway, i ended up losing access to the manuscript, so rip, but i'm fully intending to rewrite it someday and make it a lot better than it was when i was writing it at 14.

What’s your writing routine? usually i'll put on music and just start writing whatever comes to mind for whatever scene i'm trying to write at the time. whenever i can't figure out what to do next, i'll go on tumblr and scroll for a bit until it comes to me. it's pretty effective, though my editor literally thinks i'm doing nothing all day bc of this even tho i Promise him i'm Working On It 😭😭😭

Are you a plotter, a pantser, or something in between? in between for sure. i plan things as i go. i start with an overall idea and then just...start writing and plan for the next chapters as they come to me. with the novel i'm currently writing, i've only planned up through chapter 8 and i'm currently writing chapter 4. i used to plan everything, but for some reason that made it so much harder for me to actually write the novels, so i don't do that anymore.

Do you try to tell moral stories throughout your work, or any other life lessons? What are they? there was a time where i did that, but the older i've gotten, the more i've realized a solid plot is a lot more important than telling any moral story. whether you like it or not, people are going to remember your book for the story you tell, not the reason you're telling it, and as a reader, i tend to go for stories with more solid plots than morals anyway.

What do you prefer, character development or worldbuilding? Why? both?? idk they both come very easily to me. to the point that there's been times where i think i haven't done enough of either and people have read my work and told me the opposite. i guess worldbuilding is more fun, but it's harder, which i think is probably why i like it more than character development bc that comes even easier to me than worldbuilding.

Do you have any tips for budding writers? i'll tell you exactly what my editor told me in the first class of his i took when i was 12: write like a shark. whatever you're writing, write it until it's done. go back and edit later. i've learned you can do a little bit of editing as you go once you've finished a few novels because then you know you can do it (speaking from experience; i've finished 7 and self-published 2 and am working on my 8th), but if you're new to writing and you haven't finished a book yet, don't do it. you will get caught up in it otherwise. especially if you have adhd (like i do).

Who inspires you to write the most? at the moment?? probably tamsyn muir. we have a shocking amount in common (our birthday's are literally a single day apart, though she's older than me by several years) and her books are exactly the kind of books i want to write. but also mary doria russell (duh) because we have very similar writing styles; ellen hopkins because she really was who really taught me (through me reading her books) how to write emotional stuff really well; brandon sanderson bc nothing is ever going to beat how i felt at the ending of the mistborn trilogy; and marie lu because her characters from the legend trilogy live in my mind rent free still and i can't help thinking of day every time i create a new boy.

1: What are your favorite whump tropes?

A list of ones I don't like would be way shorter ahaha. I'm a sucker for sickfics, fainting and hidden injury. When a big, tough stoic character is so cool, calm and collected and then bam they start sweating, fainting and being all delirious... solid stuff. Also absolutely love whumpees being knocked out if you couldnt tell from my writing. If they're unconscious I'm there.

Love a good little stabby stab too, but a fun little trope I've tried to include a couple times if the knife to the throat and drawing a teensy little bit of blood. That visual in my head is always so great and the whumperflies are insane.

I also love soft fluffy stuff, team members looking after their Leader is a solid fav and the tough character cracking and becoming the fluffiest caretaker for whumpee is where it's at!

My writing contains my favorite whump tropes, I don't really write anything I don't like cause why would I? That being said if it was requested I would try my best, some of the prompts for JOD I didn't like turned out to be my favorite stories to write (Day 27 as an example might be my favorite story I wrote from the entire month, we might need to visit Enjar again?)

I also write different tropes depending what I'm studying at the moment! I recently started ~trauma studies~ so I hope it improves my physical whump a little more. (I'm a 2nd year uni student. Transferred from nursing to paramedicine at the end of last year and I have to do first year again yayyyy...) I was doing a lot of CPR as well as assessments for illnesses last semester (cardio-respiratory, abdominal and neurological) and last year did medications, life support and wound dressings. I have to try really hard not to do the step by step of aseptic non-touch technique or describe in detail how Rescuer inserts and OPA when I write lmao.

I usually resort to "And caretaker applied the dressing and went away" instead of "Caretaker lined up the dressing and using the fold method, applying the dressing cleanly to the sterilised skin" cause thats way too specific.

Anyway, the point of that ramble is that I use it to practice for my assessments, it helps me wrap my head around concepts I'm struggling with and it's good inspiration and fun to use my free time in an effective way. Whumpee fell over and broke their leg? Snail is on the scene! Whumpee had a seizure? Snail is doing AEIOUTIPS to figure out why! I love medicine as a science, that shits cool as fuck!

I don't tend to post those ones as they are kinda long, boring and kinda personal as the Caretaker is me. It feels like writing what is effectively fanfic about myself and doesn't make me feel right, I'm not a super boastful person really. I have posted a couple Cranky Whumpee is an example of when I did a mental check of how much I remembered about wound care and what I needed to study up on (the massage was just cause I wanted a massage). It keeps me interested in my more boring skills, prevents skill erosion and is good practice for writing and medical care, my two favorite things!

**I would like to clarify however, that I have a love for whump and a love for medicine but they are too seperate things. I don't get whumperflies for my patients and dont like to imagine scenarios in whump similar to what I have done irl. I got into whump as a thing after I began studying. I did not decide to study these things because of whump. I've always had an interest in medicine and almost everyone in my family are in the medical field in some capacity.** - thank you potential employersssssssssss :)

It really depends on the whumpee and what's happening. Physical whump is more fun to write, but psychological whump is a close second. Love delirium and all that jazz. Emotional isn't as much of a favorite cause I just can't get into it as much as the others, idky. I guess it just feels mean which is weird cause I happily write about people smashing Leader's ribs or whatever. Do love an emotional moment tho, fluffy emotional caretaking is the best.

maybe its cause I was a touch starved child but hugging, cuddling, being close just is nice to write about and I love giving my whumpees something nice as a treat.

Okay I probably should've articulated myself better but tbh I was not expecting my original post to get as much attention as it did.

Anyways: yes the epilogues and hs^2 are dubiously canon and ignored by a vast majority of the fandom, including myself. This is why I don't think that every single depiction ever of Roxy should be transmasc, because that version of Roxy is only 'canon' to the meat timeline and even then, the 'canon-ness' of the epilogues and hs^s vs the original homestuck is negligible at best.

However: as for June, the only degree of 'canon-ness' is the Toblerone arg, regardless of whether June was stated to be canon vs just-epilogues-and-hs^2-canon we all know that that's a fast and lose term in regards to homestuck and the fandom are actively encouraged to not take the comments of Hussie or anyone else who's worked on official homestuck content as word of god. To clarify, I am NOT saying I dislike the June headcanon/au/interpretation, it has a solid basis and even if it didn't it'd still be a fun and interesting take on Egbert's character. I also don't think that depicting Egbert as John is bad, provided the people who do so aren't being transmisogynistic about it. Again, if we're going by 'canon-ness' here as reasons for portraying characters as trans vs just personal enjoyment and headcanons, then June's transfemme-ness is just as equally debatable/non-canon as Roxy's transmasc-ness.

Also: I am aware that there is a complicated history in regards to Roxy and transness in the fandom. Many, many people headcanon(ed) Roxy as transfeminine, including myself, and it was upsetting for many people, especially transfemme people who really saw themselves in Roxy, to have that headcanon/fanon utterly disregarded. Additionally, as a transmasc person, I feel the execution of Roxy's 'gender arc' was stereotypical, distasteful, and poorly executed at best, especially the inclusion of Dirk, who much of the fandom headcanoned as transmasc and who a lot of transmasc homestucks, myself included, really saw themselves in, as horribly transphobic to Roxy (and Calliope) for no good reason.

So ultimately: I don't have an issue if people want to portray Roxy as transfemme or even just as a cis girl, either because they don't feel that the epilogues and hs^2 are canon (I certainly don't feel that they are), or purely because of personal preference. Where I do have an issue is that some people, especially on twitter from what I've noticed, will argue that June is indisputably 100% canon across all of homestuck because of the Toblerone ARG and comments from Hussie + other homestuck writers and that any depiction of Egbert as anything but transfemme is inherently transmisogynistic (which it can be, don't get me wrong! But it isn't always) but then turn around and depict Roxy as transfemme or cis female in their fancontent as well and make the argument of 'the epilogues and hs^2 aren't canon' when you point out this double standard.

Again: I don't think there is inherently an issue with people having both June and female Roxy coexist in their fancontent, my issue is that people will act like June is an indisputable truth of Egbert's character, but then act as if Roxy's transmasc-ness can be ignored when when it is arguably, if not more canon than June, if we're deciding to acknowledge the epilogues, hs^2, and other non-original comic official content.

As a pokemon fan, pokemon fans complain about everything to a degree. at the time, a lot of people who started with gen 1/2, were aging out of pokemon by gen 3. So it was often the case of 'look how adult I am by not playing something aimed at younger people'. However now a days its still considered a very solid game, and people enjoy it. Gen 5 had so many complaints on release despite the fact that its legitimately one of the best pokemon games that was ever made.

sword/shield are the recent ones everyone seams to 'despise' at first because they decided not to continue on with adding every single pokemon in the pokemon games. And the tree textures were bad. (Understandable complaints as the game could use more polish, but I really thought it was fun.)

Anyway I loved beast wars as a kid. I don't remember much about it, but it was so good! I mostly remember a character not surviving, (Which i'm being vague about for sake of spoilers as I know its still possible to watch the show.) and the Wasp character. Waspinator is still just so good. Think his story was that his speech pattern took a long time so they just kept having him be attacked/injured so he couldn't talk much. Which ended up making him so beloved by fan and creator that they didn't die when they were planned too.

Oh yeah, that character death . . . I know the one you speak of and watching that episode still makes me cry. So good.

On Pokemon, I'm not part of the Pokemon fandom (like part of the community) but I'm a Pokemon fan in the sense that I watch the anime sometimes (loved the Sun / Moon season) and play all the games.

IMO Sun / Moon was the best game, which as I understand it isn't something a lot of Pokemon fans would agree with me on, lol. But it was the only one that really made me love a region instead of going "well, that was pretty cool."

I'm not picky when it comes to playing Pokemon games, it's mostly about building and bonding with my team. And I like doing nuzlockes, so my perception of games is also influenced by, like, how many Pokemon are available on each route.

I disagree on Black / White being great, it was the third weakest game in terms of story IMO. But I will save that for another post because I have A LOT to say on it. (I did enjoy playing it, like I said I'm not picky and also I loved the Water starter, but wow after all the online hype I was expecting something better. For context, I played it for the first time last year.)

Pokemon Sword / Shield is just genuinely bad. The story is incomplete and just so sloppily laid out. But the biggest technical flaw is that Exp Share was permanently on. It was so frustrating trying to keep my team at a level that would make the game challenging. Plus I like switch training. It gives me the illusion that I'm actually "training" my Pokemon. I know that's not everyone's preference, but that's what the toggle was for. #bringbackthetoggle

Time for Luffy's fashion exam! Now, I'll be honest, I did skip an outfit because I decided I will be ending this whole thing with the Strawhat fashion show in Episode of Luffy. Also, sorry for the posting gap, I remembered I have other unfinished post sets. That being said, this is a very long one so let's do this!

Kid Luffy, Post-Enies Lobby & Fish-Man Island: I think it's super cute when Luffy has white t shirts with red based logos because it reminds me of the first picture. Makes him look baby plus, they can always be found in cute domestic EPs or fun, cute flashbacks. The shorts change over time and that's also kinda cute, a range of cuffs is a nice change up. It's nice to see the red contrast the blue shorts and the white is a nice color on him cos it contrast his hair!

Romance Dawn, Enies Lobby, Thriller Bark, Sabaody Archipelago, Amazon Lily, Marineford & last Dressrosa outfit: This look is the pre Luffy look. It's the pre Timeskip look everyone thinks of is cuffed shorts, Kimono sandels and sleeveless vest (and Strawhat, obviously) but have you ever seen them all in a line? It's mad. Each outfit is the same basic look bit more are more spicy each time! I like the Thriller Bark and Sabaody Archipelago looks a little bit more cos it's nice to see that jacket open and it feels like he was trying something new. I also feel that the buttons on the jacket look like the ones on Shanks' pegged ankle sailor pants when we first see him so that's cool. (it took me hours to find the name for his trousers, oh my fucking god) The last Dressrosa outfit feels like a nice callback to the rest of the line up here without being too much cos it's just a red vest top instead and I do find it funny it's like the Enies Lobby and it's used in Dressrosa because of the jokes people make about Robin and Law being so similar.

Timeskip: This is it lads, it's the one true icon itself, the post look! ☺️ When I sit back and look at it I see all the people this look is influenced by and want to cry at how masterful it really is. (Now, I do wanna say that I didn't come up with this nor am I the first to say it and I am definitely probably looking too much into this but) The yellow belt is taken from Shanks' red belt the first time we see him and the Shanks look Luffy is more familiar with. Now onto the jacket. I know it won't stand out as to why for most but it's Ace inspired! When Ace leave to become a pirate, the start of his adventure, he has his jacket open and Luffy having his jacket open also shows his scar from the ending of Ace's adventure. I also really appreciate how no one hides scars in this anime. Also, someone said that the style of the jacket and it's fancy frills could be in reference to Sabo's little jabot collar and honestly I do see it. it's quite subtle unlike Shanks' but not as hard to catch as Ace's so I enjoy thinking that it's there too. Lastly, he still has his cuffed shorts and kimono sandels because it's still Luffy's outfit at the end of the day and he is still who is is, just with a stronger appreciation of what people have done for him now. It's also his colour pallette for the pure fact he is the main character n needs his pallet. also sometimes he just has normal wooden sandels but the same outfit sometimes, it's a small detil a lot of people overlook but I prefer the sound of his Kimono sandels 😊

Dressrosa: I love this outfit cos it's stilly but also has very nice vibes. Looks ready for the beach but is really throwing hands and that's the best kind of outfit, it's a nice expectation subversion tbh. I also like how he tried to hide the Straw hat but not... All of it? And I love how the crew didn't actually question it either. It would have been super easy for one of them to just tell him to leave it behind or something but I do really love how respectful they always are of the hat. I myself have a hat that's super important to me and when I loose it I go mad.

Whole Cake Island: I love this arc for outfits! I swear if the actual content of it doesn't kill me, the act looks will 😭 it's all so magical and it knows it is! Like I said before, white is a good color on him as he has black hair but for the same reason, so is black! In this arcs outfit range, the Staw hat seems almost invisible and his outfit gets less and less 'Luffy' as the arc gose on showing this is not about him. He's not the focus of this arc and you can see that in a lot of the outfits thb. I also like the lack of blue and yellow, 2/3 of his colors as Sanji is often associated with those too as we've talked about before. Also, I like the little red strips on the white jacket with the gold buttons, idk why and I think it's nice that the last 2 outfits are so simple in general, it's a nice look for him. oh, what's that? A Pink jabot? Your killing me Lu, straight up killing me here lil' bro! Side note, is this the first time in canon Luffy has worn a suit jacket or is it the only time I've noticed? Cos DAMM!! Shits sick as fuck and I actually love that when wearing a suit jacket as such he always keep short on 😆

Spa Island, Z's Ambition & Strong World: WHOS READY FOR A RELAXING SUNNY DAAAYY!? (pun not intended but very much enjoyed) I actually adore the fact Luffy still tries to go swimming cos it was his favourite thing to do as a kid so like fuck Luffy is gonna give up on that. He's got his safety measures ready, what more do you want from him? I mean I personally want him not to swim with his hat on cos it's litrally Staw and that's not good for water but anyway Z's Ambition, am I right!? The top is so fucking cute and I just noticed those shorts are also ✨designer✨ fancy man!! Now, the pic of Zoro is the one I missed out before and it's also from Z's Ambition. I love that Luffy has the shark top but Zoro has the ocean shorts. I really love Zoro in this purple cos and thick white stripes really work with the ocean waves. It's really well put together and hes got dark brown sandels on to off set all the white but keep the purple from being a stand out color, it's cool! Than the last Luffy looks like he's at a fashion show. It looks like the shorts come from a kids set the shark top belongs to. Imagine those together, it'd be so cute. However, it isn't an ocean patten, those are clouds cos Nami has a bikini top with the same pattern in Skypiea and it's actually one of my favourites for her.

Boss Luffy Historical Special! This filler AU is so much fun, I think any it a lot. He has his hair up in that super cute and useless way that doesn't actually do much but I do have my hair like that a lot n it's just... nice? Idk, it's strange buy I like he did that. I really enjoy his Kimono more that the actual Wano one cos it's a lot more simple look. The Sai being tucked in in that way is also cool but kinda makes it look like it's stabbing him a bit 👁️👄👁️. I like the pin strips being like a faded purpleish cos if you just glance at it, it makes it look it fuzzy. The belt also looks very nice with the middle ligter bit. It really feels like the Wano one was inspired by this is a way cos of the color matches. Like, it's probably not but still.

3D2Y, Adventure of Nebulandia 😍 & Heart of Gold: Hat-less Luffy is both a sin and a blessing. Regardless, I LOVE OP BOYS IN HOODIES!! I had to show you this specific the 3D2Y because we don't see the hood and it's soooo cute cos it a paw 😍 but also 😬 cos it's like... Kuma's paw the thing that cause 3D2Y in the first place. But that's also why it's so cool at the same time and AHHHHHH 😄 Now! On to Nebulandia! I really like this movie but also in canon, how does he have that jumper? Who made it for him and can I have one? It's Usopp flag design so I guess it could be him but he doesn't seem the type. Point is I want one. Last of this set is some really cosy outfits!! "How much fur?" "Yes" am I right? Like the first one is sooooo cosy with all the fur! Plus, a funky new bamboo hat, always a good thing to have a new hat. I appreciate that you can see the zips on these too. Then the orange turtle neck one with little fluffy bits is just here cos it's so out of his usual looks, I had to at least mention it.

Strong world & Film Z: The shorts on the first one are really cute cos it's a light rosey pink with red fur and just a plain solid dark blue colour jacket works really well. Not to mention the fact he has a super cute orange and yellow flight helmet hat with goggles on under the Staw hat. The 2 bag straps also make an X which is a nice detail. The 2nd outfits in this movie are super fuckin cool ngl. It's so strange to see them all dress in black and have guns but I like the red shirt for him with the yellow highlighted parts. Makes the Straw hat actually work with the outfit instead of ignoring it. Film Z brings us the same flight helmet hat just brighter and without the goggles but also opens with this T-Shirt and Luffy being silly with it. I think that's the only reason to mention it, it's funny. Then the obligation pirate outfit, always stunning plus the meat belt.

Film: Gold & Stampede (also used in Cidre Guild): these are my top 3 Luffy outfits no matter what else I see. I love the straw cowboy hat sooooo much cos it's very Luffy. I like the balls they has as a team to choose white for all of them, considering they are all quite messy people, living for that dad shirt and I like the Golden chain around his neck but am always confused as to why it was never used against him. Like dude could and should have tried to choke him at least once, right? Anyway, the dress! Now, the dress isn't actually that good but it's my favourite because it shows how Luffy has no fucks about gendered things. On to of that, a big pink flower is wonderful and look at his confidences in it, he's so proud of it the boom, Nami told him he can't wear it! Lastly, the Stampede outfit!!! Just like the Nebulandia jumper, I have no idea who made it but it's irrelevant cos it's beautiful and I want it so badly. I like that it's white and red stripes, gives thenprefect vibes for Stampedes opening. The shirt is actually too big for him, you can see on his arms but it's actually super cute. I love the simple look of these shorts then the fact his yellow belt is replaced with white bandages and the black on the kimono sandels are now red? It's such a simple pallet and it's truly the best!

I also just wanna add, I think it's really cute when Luffy has the Straw hat on his back just cos his hair is really cute. Idk why, it's looks kinda cursed but cute at the same time

So, when I wrote this the first time it got really long winded. Maybe I will take this opportunity to shave it down. I wanted to touch on a part of Reiko's character that is super interesting to me + provide some cute/lighthearted head canons.

Despite their heart to heart in Chapter 9, a lot of Reiko's hang ups and issues come directly from her mother and the way she views her. Hana got pregnant at a young age and Reiko's father skipped town before she was born. Hana had no living relatives to help her, so she decided that instead of wallowing she was going to throw herself head first into the title of 'single mother'. She had all of these wonderful ideas of her and her daughter being best friends who told each other everything. They would spend all of their time together and build this unshakeable bond. Even before Reiko was born, Hana put all of her attachment issues on her shoulders. So, when Reiko started to grow old enough to develop her own personality and she wasn't what Hana had envisioned, things went south quickly.

Hana wanted a best friend, not a daughter. She wanted someone who could never leave her because they were related. Someone who would love her unconditionally and admired her. But Reiko never met those expectations. She wasn't a clingy or loving child, preferring to do her own thing and spend time alone. Over the course of her childhood, Hana began to resent Reiko for her independence at such a young age. And Reiko began to resent her mother for her overbearing dependency on others. When it became clear that they would never connect in the way Hana had hoped, Hana started dating again. Reiko was about five years old at this point and she watched as her mother brought home a new 'boyfriend' every week. Only for them to disappear, over and over again. And every time, Hana was devastated. Reiko was naturally independent and she found this behavior unsettling, even when she was young. That's why Hana clung to Goro for so long. He was lazy, incompetent, and incapable of caring for himself in any real capacity. So, Hana provided for him. Waiting on him hand and foot just to keep him content, so he would never even think of leaving.

In Reiko's eyes, this was weakness. She preferred independence. Always liked the idea of doing things on her own without any help and the satisfaction she got from accomplishing things on her own. She admired Shinobi because they were strong and self-reliant. No one had to save them or make them feel worthy. They got all of that just from their job. That's why she pursued the title in the first place. Why she took up pick pocketing as a child. Why she spent hours locked away in her room, pouring over scrolls and books on Jutsu and fighting techniques. She was obsessed with the idea of being a strong woman. Someone far removed from her spineless mother. When she eventually became the main bread winner for the household, it only furthered the gap between her and her mother. To Reiko, if she was providing for her mother, then her mother was not even worthy of being her guardian. Though she wouldn't admit it now, she almost felt a sense of pride at that. Here she was, eight years old, and her mother literally could not live without her income.

When Shikaku found her, she resented him for assuming she needed help. A chip on her shoulder, even at the age of six. Still, he was capable and strong. No one helped him and no one told him what to do. He called the shots with a level head, always in control and confident. She admired him deeply and did everything she could to walk in his footsteps. When she got old enough that those feelings of admiration mixed with her feelings of romantic interest in him, it was something that was difficult for her to come to terms with. Because, to her, Hana's issues had always revolved around men. Needing approval from a man. Craving attention from a man. Crying over a man who didn't want her. Reiko would be damned if she allowed herself to fall into the same patterns, so eventually, she rationalized her love for Shikaku by molding it into undying loyalty. Dedication. She couldn't be weak if he saw her as an equal. So she worked as hard as she could to impress him. To show him that she didn't depend on him.

Eventually though, she spent too long in his shadow. There were things she couldn't best him at, and if she couldn't best him, then she believed he would never take her seriously. It resulted in this never ending cycle of loving him because he was her entire world, and resenting him because he was her entire world.

Her social issues also stem from this fear of being weak. Constantly comparing herself to others in her head to make sure she stacked up. Fearing judgement for saying the wrong thing and coming across as ignorant. So, she kept to herself. Keeping a mental tally of all of the people around her. Ranking them in comparison to herself. She doesn't even realize she's doing it. Torn somewhere between being desperate for a connection and this horrifying fear of becoming her mother. She could handle loneliness better than she could failure. So, she kept her distance from people.

I genuinely love her character so much. Now, for some light head canons.

-Reiko is a cat person. No question. When she hooked up with Kakashi, his apartment always smelled faintly of dog and she hated it lmaooo

-She is insanely good at word puzzles. Doesn't matter was kind. Scrambles, crosswords, riddles. It was one of the few things she could best Shikaku at.

-I associate a lot of softer/folksie music for her. Because in a modern AU she would definitely be the hardcore academia girl in school. All of her schoolwork is meticulously organized/color coded and she is always studying or reading with a big pair of headphones on, listening to chill vibes to study to youtube videos or like the most extensive 'indie' playlist you have ever seen.

-She does not know who her biological father is and doesn't care to know. In her mind, she had plenty of strong men to look up to in her youth. Shikaku, Inoichi, and Choza all rotated teaching her things when she was really young and Shikaku needed someone to keep her occupied while he handled things she just wasn't old enough for yet. She also remembers Kakashi's father, Sakumo. Once, after she'd been working with Shikaku for about a year, he showed up to the office to discuss some business with Shikaku. Her mentor got an urgent message during this short meeting and he had to leave, but not before hurriedly asking Sakumo if he could walk Reiko home. Sakumo agreed and, on their way to Reiko's house, she asked him if he liked Shinobi work. His response had gone over her head a bit at the time, but one thing he said stuck with her for a long time. After a pretty long winded explanation, he finally said:

"I don't have to love the work to reap the rewards. Even if I'm miserable, it would be worth it to protect the people in this village."

It hurt her quite a bit when she learned that he had died. But those words still spur her on when it feels like she has nothing left to give. Despite their closeness over the years, she's never told Kakashi about this.

-This is something I think about a lot because my stories bleed together in my head after a while. I often imagine how my OC's would react to one another. Reiko wouldn't like Niko because she can just tell there is this ulterior motive in everything she does. Nefarious vibes that just make her scrunch her nose up every time they are in a room together. I think Reiko would like Atsuko the most out of everyone. They are very different, but Atsuko is so good at wiggling between the cracks in people's armor that Reiko wouldn't have much of a choice. Can totally see Atsuko teasing the ever living shit of Reiko until she just caves and accepts that their friends now lol. Especially during their younger years when they didn't have as much responsibility on their shoulders and Atsuko was still running wild.

Atsuko: "Reikooo~... What are you doing this weekend?"

Reiko: "Working."

Aaaaaand I was gonna talk about the JJK OC HOWEVER I am very tired + she needs a little workshopping. So, what I will say, is that she is very different from any of my previous OC's. Conceited, self-important, vain. She's beautiful and uses her looks to get what she wants, no matter how petty her desires are. Most of the arc I have in mind for her revolves around her being A.) HUMBLED and B.) Finding real strength under an overly confident faced.

In my head, she and Gojo both fall in love with Geto and get rejected for different reasons. They meet up and connect deeply after his disappearance. So, that's kindaaaa why I would lean more towards an AU. I would like to focus on this love found in heartbreak storyline without just regurgitating the original plot of JJK. Though I do have this mental image of her just going absolutely ape-shit when she finds out about Gojo being sealed. Like this penultimate moment where she realizes that she really does love him and he's not just some passing fixation or a stand in for Suguru. At this point, they've been together for years (kinda sorta, it's complicated) and she's just now having this realization now that he is in actual danger.

ANYWAY. That's all just stream of consciousness. I'd like to know if anyone is interested in that story because I feel like it's kind of... hollow to continually pair my OC's off with canon characters? But I just love love and I can't help BUT write it lmao

And I hate all the hate Annabeth gets because I really love her so I just wanted to ask you if you could go more in depth with why you aren't big on her/Percabeth please

Hi my Gretch seeing your username (on any of the platforms) makes me forever and eternally happy. Okay onto this beautiful, intense ask:

First things first: I love Annabeth. Like Annabeth as a character? wonderful, incredible, unreal. She is so versatile and full of so many things that make us human and I see her character and character arc as a complex web full of intricacies and weaknesses (yes i said web on purpose).

My favourite things about her:

1. She always has a goal, whether it be long term or, I'm just trying to stay alive in this second. For people like me who kind of go through life on vibes and a vague sense of what they want it is awing to read about and meet people who have solid, planned goals that they live, breathe, and perform by.

2. She is proud of her friends. Since her fatal flaw is pride it is very easy to see the downfall but there is also an upside in that she uses that well of pride as an extension of her and it reflects on others. We know she is proud of Percy, and grover, and Thalia, and why Luke’s betrayal hit so hard for her

3. She continues to break stereotypes. Not just as the dumb blonde (which was admittedly a big thing at the time of the book’s release) but also in her being a girl who saves herself, who goes on the dangerous quests, who isn’t helpless. I never had a lack of female role models in my life but adding Annabeth to the mix only did me more good.

4. She thinks things through: I am kind of impulsive when it comes to certain aspects in my life and I have some thought process for other parts but Annabeth is not impulsive. As much as she has ADHD, in which impulsivity is fairly common, she doesn’t present with it. And it’s refreshing and exciting to see this character that thinks through plans and decisions and tries to predict the outcome, not only so she can change it if need be but also to prepare herself for what is to come. Narratives (especially at the time of those books) were full of impulse and quick decisions and always being on the spot. Hell Percy was exactly this kind of narrtator. And while I love dit because I mean what ten year old doesn't love fast-paced intense excitement? it was so truly wonderful to read about someone who thought further. It allowed you to connect to the next page, chapter, book. 

5. She is a complete badass. And I love it. I love badass women. I could never get enough of them and I think they should rule the world. And I love smart people. I love them. Smartness, intelligence, is so attractive to me. Because it means you have passion, and the ability to think beyond your surroundings. Annabeth Chase is hella smart.

What I've been having a crisis over for the last few years is Percabeth. It is summed up most accurately here but just to continue my thought:

Rick changed the percabeth dynamic so much in HOO that it became almost unrecognisable. I think in the bid to have this whole, everyone is a couple and everyone deserves someone (which boosted Leo’s narrative but was also the cause of great conflict in everyone else’s narrative expect percabeth) he forgot to make them friends. And that was the basis of percabeth. It was the reason percabeth were so godsdamn cute in PJO. Because they were friends who ended up becoming a couple. In HOO they were just a couple. And it sucked out the life of their friendship so that we could only focus on their relationship.

And unfortunately it is Annabeth’s narrative that really brings this home for multiple reasons (all of which we can blame Rick for):

1. This is the first time we got other points of view beside Percy which means everyone’s flaws were much more obvious. Annabeth’s fatal flaw specifically was really played (the entire reason she went on that Mark of Athena quest; why  they landed up in Tartarus). it made focusing on her harder especially because Percy’s Fatal flaw is loyalty so he spent a lot of his narrative focusing on others. this one is mostly my bias as I prefer to have a character’s narrative that also focuses on the happenings of others with the characters personal thoughts. Annabeth was the kind of narrator who focused on herself first. 

2. The entirety of HOO was about relationships. Rick didn’t bother to form any actual friendships with any of the characters (something he was undoubtedly great at in PJO) so when we got to percabeth scenes it was things like: Piper being jealous of them; Percy being worried about them; Annabeth being worried about Percy as a person or herself in her quest; Leo being sad that he was alone; etc. It made liking any of the couples extremely hard.

3. As you (and my other Tumblr babies) may know I don't believe Percy and Annabeth’s fatal flaws work well together. I think Percy is often the one to sacrifice himself and Annabeth sacrifices her wants (material things) and it is not the same. Percy is loyal to Annabeth. But Annabeth’s pride continues to rule her life. For example, if Percy had gotten in the way of Annabeth rebuilding Olympus I fully believe she would have attempted (at the very least) to get rid of him. I don't necessarily mean kill him I just mean he wouldn’t have been in her life. Don’t get me wrong this does not mean she did it or there was even a possibility that she could have. but the reason for that is because Percy is loyal to her. So he wouldn’t have gotten in the way of her dreams. And I think there’s something fundamentally dangerous about sacrificing yourself for someone else’s dreams. If Percy became loyal-to-a-fault towards Annabeth and she then decided to join Luke’s army he would not have stopper her. In fact it’s quite possible he would have joined her. And Annabeth has so much pride for Percy, but her pride-to-a-fault does not lie in people it lies in material things. So she would have gone after her own goals if Percy did not follow. It just seems like it’s luck that they continue to work well together. Percy sacrifices himself. Annabeth sacrifices herself. But only cause their goals align. What happens when they don't?

Please do not make the mistake of thinking I hate percabeth because I don’t. I cannot hate them when those books were the heart and soul of my life for so many years. Percabeth was such a big part of them, to hate the ship, would mean to hate the books and that is absolutely not the case. Annabeth and Percy’s friendships is so important to me. 

TL:DR I love Annabeth she is an absolute badass; I am not a fan of the percabeth dynamic especially in HOO; my bias is present in everything I do. I acknowledge it and try to work to bring all the facts together.

Apparently by "a little," my subconscious meant to dump all of my OC's designs, evolution and backstory at your feet. I'll try to summarize lmao.

I had gotten this idea at the beginning of 2019. Maybe a month after CYM was released. I really wanted a SU OC and my favorite color was blue at the time, so, naturally, I ended up researching a ton of blue gemstones and minerals. The very first name I contemplated was Blue Spinel, which I thought sounded kinda dorky written down and I preferred Kyanite. But the name grew on me and I couldn't decide on Kyanite or Blue Spinel.

Here's a referenced version of Kyanite's very first concept:

I briefly had an idea where she was bubbled on Earth and still got hit with the Corrupting Light, but it only half affected her because of the bubble. This was because I wanted to make her design really feral and monstrous because frankly, I love those designs. Then I decided not to because that idea had too many inconsistencies for her backstory.

Instead I settled to changing her name to Cat's Eye Kyanite, - after discovering that was a thing - using this as an excuse to give her some catlike features. Cats are cool.

Kyanite gets fangs and claws.

I know she looks a little like Lapis, and this is probably because I have some annoying drawing habits. I can only draw Peridot, Spinel and Lapis, so I tend to lapse into these habits when I try to draw anyone else.

Kyanite/Blue Spinel's main power was:

Dissolving her form into a beam of striated light, which resembles actual raw kyanite. It's kinda ironic because the beam is just a simplified, liquid version of her physical form. Raw, primitive light. She can only move in a straight line while using this attack, as light only moves forward.

This reflects off of Steven's shield and bubble. He unintentionally curb stomped her attack the first time they met; she simply ricocheted off his shield and went flying in the opposite direction.

After lately discovering Sonic, this ability has been removed since the coincidence was a little too much for me lmao.

She was a very insecure, melodramatic Gem prone to anxiety, though very protective of those she cared about. She would leap in front of a poofing blow without a second thought, and could be a little scrappy at times.

Kyanites can detect a falsity from miles away, so never lie to her. She will know.

Her full gem name was Cat's Eye Kyanite Facet-8 Cut 3YK. Quite a mouthful, huh?

Her original backstory is kinda janked, so after this I'll share her scrapped one that's still kinda in progress.

Basically, she was made alongside a team of cabochon Kyanites, but was a defective deep-cut. Her Gem was faceted instead of smooth, she was shorter than she should've been, and instead of being calm and balanced like all other Kyanites, she was nervous and impulsive. Despite being off-color, her defects had benefits. She was a brighter color and slightly stronger than her fellow Kyanites, so her superior ended up keeping her anyways. Though a lot of abuse was still directed at her from said superior and teammates. She also had limb enhancers.

At some point, the Kyanites' manager got sent to earth to help with the colony's construction. While the Corrupting Light was being initiated, 3YK ended up being left behind and bubbled in the Facet 5 Cluster lab. In this version of the AU, the Crystal Gems found her bubble after destroying all of the force fusion shards. They took it back to the temple and Steven convinced them to pop it in case it was an innocent Gem. After all, if it was just another corruption or Homeworld Gem, they could catch it again and no harm done... Right?

I ended up just kinda putting this OC down for a while and never came back to it, but after the movie came out, things got interesting. I never would've anticipated an actual canon Spinel, and, to my mild surprise, my own OC had some obvious similarities besides part of the same name. Some of which include a widow's peak or whatever it's called, similar stature, short hair/fur and then longer tufts, similar coloring system, personality, and some more subtle things.

But I liked both of these characters so much that I just have 2 sub-characters; Blue Spinel and Cat's Eye Kyanite. They each have their own individual AUs, I guess, as well.

Ok, for Blue Spinel now!

I have a headcanon that there are other Spinels on Homeworld, but they're not necessarily the same as the Spinel everyone knows and loves.

As you might know, spinel in real life is rather rare and as such not many people know about it. One could say it's underrated. Gem hierarchy on Homeworld seems to be primarily based on Gem worth and popularity on earth. For example, Diamonds being the highest rank gem. Diamonds are actually one of the most common gemstones on earth; and they're very well known by the community.

Ask someone what the most important gemstone is (not in the context of Steven Universe) and they'll probably answer "diamond" without skipping a beat. So by this logic, Spinels on Homeworld could be kinda rare, and not of a particularly high rank but still important nonetheless. Like Pearls, they could be considered the expensive pets or toys of the upper classes.

Take Pink Spinel. She was made for Pink Diamond, especially customized to look and behave like her. She was made to entertain and be Pink's best friend.

In the movie, Pearl sings:

"This will be fun

Aren't you the lucky one?

Her cut is perfect and she's pink, as well

She'll bring you endless entertainment

Your new best friend, Spinel!"

Steven is lucky to have a Spinel? Are they rare? Perhaps only for the highest of the elites, and most likely much more important than Pearls.

Pink Spinel is, in a way, the ultimate or Diamond quality Spinel. Like Jasper is the Ultimate Quartz.

She's the same color as Pink Diamond/Steven, but, how would Pearl know that Steven was Pink? He shows no physical traits of her, besides her Gem, which is also covered and not obviously even Pink Diamond. Pearl was also reset and completely disregarded Steven in all scenes, as Greg was her new owner.

Is there something different or special about Pink Spinels that deserved a mention in Pearl's basic description of these Gems?

These are, as it seems, in an order. Lucky to have a Spinel. She's perfect and,

Pink.

She'll entertain you.

It's unlikely that these two are connected, but it could be possible that different color Spinels have different purposes.

Pink gems, as a stereotype, might be more fun-loving and goofy. Take Pink Pearl and Pink Diamond. We haven't met very many Pink Gems, but they all seem to share this trait. This could also be because they were modeled after Pink Diamond, but hear me out anyways. Blue Gems tend to be rather solemn. (Lapis Lazuli, Blue Diamond, Blue Pearl, Sapphire.) Green/yellow/orange/red Gems tend to be more sassy, energetic and/or egotistical. (Peridot, Yellow Pearl, Yellow Diamond, Ruby.)

Why wouldn't there be a trait for pink Gems?

Homeworld could've utilized this to create a naturally happy-go-lucky Spinel whose purpose is to be happy and entertain other Gems.

But are all Spinels entertainers?

Entertainment seems like a foreign concept for Gems, and within the busy hierarchy, who would ever have time for fun?

In real life, spinel is known as the copy gem. It can mimic almost any crystal because it comes in such a wide range of colors and has a hardness of 8 on the MOHs scale.

So I created an adaptive theory.

Real spinels can be used to mimic other gems. Homeworld Spinels are one of the customizable "accessory" Gems, which take an appearance and personality very similar to that of their owner.

If this were the case, they would be like a higher quality Pearl with more diverse skills. Programmed to have a base personality exactly like their owner, and if their owner screws up bad, they could just be replaced by their Spinel if they're essential to the hierarchy.

Spinels can be entertainers, friends, substitutes or replacements.

Possibly, not all Spinels are solely entertainers. There could be others out there either way, and with this they could be much more relevant in the Gem society though still very rare.

Anyways, it's just a theory. I hope that made sense.

I might put that specific theory on a separate post as well since I'm rather fond of it lmao.

And now, for her backstory.

Celestine was an important Gem. Her role was to manage a portion of Blue's court, and give reports on how her Diamond's colonies were progressing. She, along with all the other Celestines recorded everything that happened and acted as messengers for higher elites. She oversaw colonies when Blue was away and aided her Diamond in their managements. She specializes in this position of great responsibility.

Alongside their roles, Celestines in general can quickly freeze liquids and control them in their solid state or at a certain temperature below freezing. Unlike Sapphires, however, they cannot generate ice out of thin air. Celestine has a pair of ice wings she can summon from her Gem. These Gems also have construction jobs on colonies. They typically work alongside Lapis Lazulis, who use their powers to excavate Kindergardens. Celestines either froze or evaporated the excess water for later use once the Kindergarten was completed.

At some point, Celestine made an error in her job managing Earth's resources and was threatened by her manager, an overreacting Aquamarine, to be replaced. She couldn't be rejuvenated or harvested because she needed all of her documents of colonies, so her Aquamarine instead requested Blue that she be given a backup Gem as a warning. This was Blue Spinel. Blue Spinel was programmed to behave like Celestine, and replace her immediately if need be. She was also meant to record and report her behaviors to Aquamarine.

Celestine was both terrified of and hated her new little replacement snitch. Spinel had to follow her everywhere, which sometimes tested Celestine's temper. The feeling was mostly mutual. Spinel had been occasionally hit and threatened by Cryolite/Celestine, and would try not to interact closely with her. Though, Spinel had a rather calm demeanor and never retaliated.

The two Gems got sent back to the Earth Colony alongside a few Lapis Lazulis to build the Beta Kindergarten. When the corrupting light was being initiated, Celestine found an opportunity to ditch Spinel and they both took seperate ships back to Homeworld. But as they were leaving, Celestine shot at Spinel's ship and knocked it offline. She was on the ship while the Gems were corrupted.

And Spinel's been stuck in the ship for a couple thousand years, eventually giving up trying to fix it. It circled in a slow spiral pattern towards the planet before finally being sucked in and crashing.

She met the CGs and now lives in Little Homeworld or something, this most likely took place after the movie. She had nothing against Steven or the CGs aside from the fact that she had to fight in the war a little bit at some point, but it was all fine and dandy. She didn't cause any problems when she ended up on Earth.

I don't actually have a finished design for Celestine, but I expect she'd have snow colored hair in a sort of angel wing shaped bob, feathery looking shoulder pads, sorta pale bluish skin and a blue-gray dress/skirt. Sorta sharp white boots like Holly Blue. Her gem is on her naval like Spinel, and of course she's really tall.

I also really liked how Celaena still has that childlike curiosity and behavior to her because I feel like many fantasy novel characters are set at a very young age but they act a lot more mature. Also I don't know if I want her to end up with Dorian or Chaol or anybody at all. (idk why i just geeked out here but i've been thinking about this all day and i think its because i haven't read a solid book in such a while and my brain is in shock rn)

Hiii!! There’s a book called ‘assassins blade’ that comes before ‘throne of glass’ but it’s just a bit of background on celaenas past, training to be an assassin and all that. I personally haven’t read that either & my best friend tells me that you don’t have to read that before throne of glass anyway as it’s not detrimental to the storyline!

I’m so glad you loved it! Celaena (also known as Aelin Galathynius) is one of my favourite book characters ever, precicely because of all the things you just listed! The author did a wonderful job of making her a little more personable than fantasy characters often are, she’s more human somehow & I absolutely LOVE her!

I hope you’ll read the rest of the series! Be warned, the books get longer and longer as they go on, but I promise it’s worth it! I love both Dorian and Chaol and at the end of the first book I couldn’t decide who I preferred either... let me know what you think once you’ve read the next couple in the series! & please, geek out about as many books as you wanna, I’m an avid reader & I love little more than discussing books with others 😂💗

HOLLY YOU’RE SO KIND TO ME WHAT THE FUCK… and just for context, holly did send me another ask, but that one’s not at straightforward to explain as this one so i’m answering them. out of order. cause i just gotta talk about the one and only aquinea pavus.

( what holly is referring to is my dumbass fanfic about dorian’s homecoming, which features her pretty prominently and is, thus far, the only place where i have written aquinea. there’s time yet for me to let her try to fuck up dorian’s life though lmao )

first, i think i need to say that the conception of my idea for aquinea as she exists within the realms of this blog is… honestly… because i hate halward sdkgjsd which sounds really. ridiculous because aquinea is awful but hear me out : halward is a piece of shit but looking at him and how he interacts with dorian and just the man himself, i found it hard to convince myself that he was the singular mastermind behind everything that happened to dorian. sure, i guess that i can believe that desperation can lead the man who taught dorian to hate blood magic to use blood magic, but what about dorian, himself? his personality? his inability to compromise, at times. his demeanor. his frank cruelty. nature vs nurture, and all that.  also, i found it weird that she was barely mentioned at all and i wanted an explanation for that.

and then i thought about his mother. what kind of woman she could be. the possibilities were, technically, endless, given that we have practically no information about her. and then the gears in my head started turning, and i thought about a haughty woman with dorian’s eyes and his mannerisms and her being just about everything he didn’t want to be.

AQUINEA OF HOUSE PAVUS, PREVIOUSLY THALRASSIAN. daughter of brutus and floriana. the eldest of three. she is a girl who had broad aspirations and wished, above all else, to be part of the magisterium. for the power. for the esteem. she vied for a seat on the magisterium, very nearly swaying her paternal uncle to choose her over his son with mediocre magical talents, who would resent her forevermore.

she is an uncompromising woman who is a loyalist and a traditionalist at heart and when she was denied a seat on the magisterium and married off to a future magister, instead, she found herself infuriated and devastated in turns. halward, back then, was somewhat kind and a bit of a romantic. she despised him from the start, resented him, and the fact that she was denied what she wanted the most. the terms of their marriage were very much set by her, and as dorian says, his parents utterly loathed each other. when she conceived dorian, she moved into the opposite wing of the pavus manor.

and she loves dorian. truly, for all that she lacked a single maternal bone in her body. he is her son, after all, and she had her favored handmaid / guard watch over him as he grew up. she taught him to be sure in himself and to be uncompromising and to prove himself, to everyone, that he was BETTER. that he was POWERFUL. that he was GIFTED. because he was. because she was proud of him and coveted him as her son, beloved and a jewel to the household. she speaks highly of him and boasts about him to her altus friends and everything.

so yes, aquinea loves her son. but she is a traditionalist and uncompromising and thus she would rip away the parts of him that she disapproves of : his soft heart and his preference for men, namely.

( is that love? no, not really. that’s control. does she love him? perhaps. is everything she does for love? she certainly thinks so / and he rationalizes that she wants what is best for him. their definitions simply don’t line up. )

aquinea is very much a woman who is willing to do what needs to be done to get to the endgame that she wants. she failed to get a seat on the magisterium, but she tends to succeed in everything and anything else. and she thought she molded her son perfectly. she thought that she taught him right. yet : she didn’t. and so she turns to the next best option well within her control. BLOOD MAGIC. her own, namely, as she dabbles in blood magic. so to speak. ironic, isn’t it? all those years of halward softening her son, leading to this.

she did what had to be done. or, tried to, anyways.

His mother has always been cold. She lacks a single maternal bone in her body, in truth. It has always been this way. Dorian knows that she loves him, or perhaps she loves the concept of him, or perhaps she loves only parts of him : he hasn’t decided yet which would be worse.

it should be noted that aquinea is loyal for all that she is cruel and for all that she hated halward, he was her husband and she tried to save him the night that he died. she tried. she truly did. for all that they differed, for all that they hated each other, for all the different lessons that they taught dorian, in spite of it all.

anyways this is getting way longer than i anticipated but a final word : aquinea sees a lot of herself in dorian, including her stubbornness and self-confidence. all things that she put in him, deliberately, and perhaps her greatest failure is that he didn’t turn out much like her, after all. and on the flip side, dorian knows that he is very much like his mother… and he’s trying to unlearn the worst parts of that. bit by bit.

oh also she’s a fire focus. ha.
