Sparkstember Day 20: Hello Young Lovers
As much as I love Hello Young Lovers and it's everything to me, one essay about it is probably enough anyway. So enjoy some bunnies today and look out for more of the usual stuff tomorrow because I have very many feelings about Exotic Creatures.
#behold my favourite drawing so far. the bunnies!!!!!!#my original idea was actually to do something edgier and inspired by the dick around mv#but then i decided that no. bunnies. easier to do and i liked it better anyway#this album is sooo special to me. oughough ough. i wish i had the capacity to ramble abt it some more today#but at least i already paid it all the possible respects previously so it's all good#maybe somewhat relevant is that i listened to it for the 1st time#on the same day that i was going to go to my long awaited and dreamed about concert#if it weren't for the fact that it got rescheduled to take place a whole year later#so i decided that well. this is a great enough replacement for that actually for the time being#it sure was!!! what a time. sometimes i miss those early days of being super into this stuff when it's still so new#because you know. it's never EXACTLY the same afterwards#last time this happened was sort of with hippo buuuut not really to the same extent in the end#so i hope it can still happen again with spars because there's really nothing quite like it#sparkstember 2024#my art#goose monologues

#he was working it OUUUUUT#the show was so good it was lovely#One thing though is that tmbg has spoiled me wrt bands playing deep cuts and obscure album tracks but I'm still happy#cos i knew it wasnt gonna be happening anyway#but they did premiere a new song which i recorded#and in general very fun setlist obviously just a once in a lifetime show it was really great and it really was like#i never dreamed id get to see them live one day when i was younger and they were my favorite band i lamented it all the time#and now i did!!!!!! (just got the maeling list emael. lol)#idk man i really cant keep spending this amount of money on concerts. i gotta cut back#im saying that even though im entertaining the idea of traveling out of the country for the first time and maybe see them in the uk#but idk if im ready for that man. and if im going i gotta go with somebody#not only for safety and anxiety reasons but i need someone to bother#i will probably want to see my beloved california in some form next year. we've been three years running#but i dont knowwwwww. who even knows whats gonna happen next year#can you imagine if the new album is something insane like a bunch of country western covers or something#just to shake up the sparks fans that are trying to predict what the guys are gonna do#its not gonna happen but it would be hysterical#im also less insane abt sparks as i was but with new things happening the feeling may return..... we will see#anyway im excited for kamala my house it should be a great album

swiftie mutuals please know that i still love you i just cant help but be a hater
#my opinions on ts are complex#like i think she's an insanely good and hardworking performer#you cant ignore the amount of work it takes to perform something like her eras shows#AND i think that when she puts her mind to it she can really knock it out of the park with a great song#every album has at least one A+ song#like genuinely i think anti-hero was her best ever lyrically#and she's at her best when she leans into the sappy over the top vibe like w love story or ybwm#my main problem with her is ofc her excessive private jet use#i understand that shes too famous to fly commercial bc she'd get mobbed#but when travelling within a single country she could at least be using road travel#anyway#wrt her music my main issue is that a good 80% of it is very... bland#she doesn't really do anything new or push any boundaries artistically#just plays it safe#and her lyrics can be genuinely awful when she takes herself too seriously (1830s but without all the racists)#and that sucks bc when she DOES decide to explore a new concept or play a character#she generally makes something interesting and fun!#blank space was fun bc it was a play into the media's constructed narrative about her#reputation was. a choice. but i'll defend it for being something different and actually taking a risk#this is a long ass tags ramble but i guess my point is#shes a pop singer. shes a pop singer who makes catchy pop music and thats okay#but she has a habit of taking herself too seriously and trying to be a deep meaningful 'poet' type songwriter like phoebe bridgers etc#which is just. not at all what she's good at#her music needs an ounce of self awareness to be good but her new album completely lacks that#sigh#dont ever get a diploma in music theory worst mistake of my life

ok but. my flamin’ hot take is that hw’s tendency to lock lore/character/relationship info behind a paywall kind of does more harm than good when gen 3 (particularly lxl, hiyori, and chizuchan) is involved
#i genuinely think that if they’d just been more upfront with their intentions of why they had yujiro and hiyo appear together#(at the very end of koiiro) there wouldn’t be *this* much backlash to nghy. and prolly no one would be calling for koiiro mv to be deleted#bc aint no lhy/yhy shipper gonna be looking at supplementary material aside from the hiyonovels#if they’d just. y’know. read the interview where ymk said that yujiro and hiyo were there in koiiro to indicate the start of a new gen#and *nothing more*/read ymk’s fanbox about hiyo in koiiro where she said that yujiro had no relation to hiyo at all#they could’ve spared themselves at least a year and a half of. y’know. lhy/yhy investments and saved themselves from the great nghy meltdown#a n d there are still ai.chizu shippers even though both a magazine *and* ymk’s fanbox have mentioned that aizo will *not* date chizu#since there’s some overlap between ai.chiz and yhy shippers i. genuinely fear for poor renren if/when chizuren endgame happens#but chizuchan manga seems to be unpopular enough(?) to fly under most peoples’ radars???#(which is a pity bc everyone who doesn’t read it is missing out on ✨peak comedy✨ the 3 stooges never fail to make me laugh)#(moritan and his 2 bfs are truly the gift that keeps on giving)#…anyways. point is: i think renren would be safe for the most part. hopefully. fingers crossed.#but. ship meltdowns aside. these magazines do go out of print decently quick#and the ebook versions get taken down after a few months or so… so. like. it’s not easy to hunt down extinct issues for new info and stuff…#like the 4th charasong album interview up there^^^ unless there are 2nd hand resellers out there you can’t buy it anymore afaik#which is sad. really… everyone n e e d s to look at the nghy part—#life’s just unfortunate in that way i suppose..#oh wellssssssssssssssssss

Oh this new version of Darkness is FUNKY I like it. I like it a lot.
#and by that i mean the final boss theme of the answer/episode aigis. you guys are gonna take this out of context ^^;#it's fine i can forgive them for botching 3/31 which was one of my fav persona songs bc they gave me this instead#anyways GUESS WHAT DROPPED. EPISODE AIGIS OST#ohhh and blind alley has got improved orchestration whilst sounding faithful T-T#The new keyboard sounds great#anyways i haven't listened to the full album yet BUT#Darkness sounds more ~sophisticated~ than it's original and that i really like#this is one of the few songs were i think amplifying the presence of the background instruments was A GOOD CHOICE#we love those VIOLINS#And we got a bright-sounding electric guitar which are always my faves#gonna have to toy with my headphones for this one for the best experience :P#anyways VIOLIN AND ELECTRIC GUITAR IS PEAAAKKKKKKKK#thank you atlus sound team for a banger remaster#just pav things

What did you think of WayV's Give Me That? I don't think I saw you talk about it, but maybe I missed it. Personally i didn't like it as much as their previous cbs. It was enjoyable but not special, felt like a concept any number of bg could've done. I want their epic feel back! The Japan debut teasers seem to hint at that. Actually, those teasers remind me of an old ask you got about them looking expensive, they look so good that nobody is even complaining about the passport photo background lol

#yes i recognize this is a bit of a random selection hear me out lmao#i was clinging to jessie ware's wyp and tfg like a lifeline in january waiting for psb news#and was like 'oh ill just delve into james ford's production discography'#glad i did because loneliness tells me he's going down the jessie route with them which im thrilled about#then hotspot and super. i got into super a lot recently#and floodland i like a lot more than i'd really expect as its not normally my thing but. yeah.#wasteland baby is still a great album even tho i still feel its too long and could have had some cuts#and i got strangeways on vinyl recently and its probably the smiths album i like the most?#yeah i'd say so#anyway yes. random selection. i've been listening to new bands or albums recently but none have really grabbed me much#and loneliness has destroyed my listening patterns#but that's a single and not an album so im not counting it#and sorry i mean when i say new bands/albums as in new to me

#plastics are an awesome japanese synthpop band from the 80s#i found out about them thru their connection to david byrne / talking heads#db + the guys from devo were fans of theirs and had a hand in getting their albums distributed in the states#anyway the point is they're really cool and the music is so angular and funky and great#and this cover is awesome in my opinion#the monkees#plastics#new wave#talkin' music

so many classic pop punk bands peaked in the 2000s and their music has gradually changed and gotten worse but paramore really was like nope cant be me
#its obviously different than like riot era but its still SO GOOD and it still feels like paramore#they do pop really well self titled and after laughter slaps#like i still love fall out boy and always will but i think their last amazing album was save rock and roll#i like american beauty but not every song and i only love like three songs on mania#but like literally all their first four albums have zero skips#but theyre doing great in comparison to panic!#their last amazing album was too weird too rare#that was the first album where it was basicaly just brendon no more panic! but i still love that album#doab isnt bad wicked is bad and the new one is attrocious and ive only heard tiny snippets#this blog is a safe place for brendon urie haters 💕#but then twenty one pilots is a weird situation bc they didnt gradually get worse i LOVED trench but scaled and icy is so so so bad#they were great and then all of a sudden terrible like what happened there#anyways#paramore
