The most annoying thing about all the self-proclaimed Tolkien lore purists, upset about Rop's orc family, is that the show doesn't just have the most interesting depiction of orcs but also the most faithful of all adaptations.

Rop's orcs have families like Tolkien's naming convention of "Bolg son of Azog" in the Hobbit strongly suggests. They are actually quite reluctant to go to war if they don't have to, which is sth we also see in the Lotr when a couple of orcs complain about Sauron forcing them into war and they wistfully speak about going back East and being free together. Even the orcs aversion to Sauron’s leadership and clear lack of respect shown in the new season's opening is sth found in Tolkien's own writing. In Nature of Middle-earth, he writes that the eastern orcs ridiculed and made fun of Sauron’s fair appearance.

Rop is by no means perfect, neither as a show nor an adaptation, but it is quite telling that some of the loudest detractors continue to make the most asinine complaints.

Percy is canonically very smart and strategic. no he isn't very good at school. it's what happens when you're neurodivergent and have learning disabilities. that doesn't mean he's stupid. no he doesn't know everything about greek mythology and that doesn't make him stupid either. but when Annabeth tells him the myth he is very good at coming up with strategies and how to win a fight. he's not smart as Annabeth because Annabeth is literally a daughter of the goddess of wisdom so stop fucking comparing them. are you also going to call Annabeth weak and incapable because she can't control water? no you won't because that's fucking stupid. and Leo. fucking Leo. is literally canonically a mathematic genius and also genius when it comes building stuff. they're both smart. they're not fucking stupid. they know and understand words that are longer than 5 letters. no they do not struggle with basic knowledge. they're not fucking stupid.

update on submas beta content search. there's no beta versions of their teams, they were added exactly the same as the finals. It kind of fucks me up to see some people come out of watching RGU having absorbed absolutely nothing of what the show has to say about patriarchy, misogyny, & queerphobia, outside of "men bad, lesbian good." Which like.....sure, I guess? in the absolute barest sense, I suppose RGU is partially about that.

But if this show's thesis were really as simple as "lesbian good," then Juri & her role as an antagonist on the mini patriarchy that is the Student Council would simply not exist at all. Juri would've won all the duels, kicked Akio in the nuts, freed Anthy, & ridden away into the sunset with Shiori in her arms before Utena even showed up if that were the case. But she obviously didn't do any of that despite being a lesbian, so there must be something more complicated at work here.

A lot of RGU's narrative is dedicated to deconstructing binary social systems & the ways in which they harm those trying to and/or being forced to fit within one of two narrow boxes; man vs woman, adult vs child, princess vs witch, prince vs devil, special vs not special, romantic vs platonic, etc. So for someone to watch all of that beautiful complexity, only to filter it through yet another essentialist binary...sucks, to say the least.

Idk how to articulate it but it’s so insane to me that people will with their full chest say “I’m a tsukasa fan I #gethim” and not gaf about saki or ever talk about her or read any of her events or even her card stories with tsukasa. Everything in Tsukasa’s life has been touched by saki. You could, if necessary, take tsukasa out of saki’s story (it would make it worse! But you could). But you cannot take Saki out of Tsukasa’s story. He lives and breathes love for his sister there is no one on earth he values or loves more she is the catalyst for his dreams and his motivation. Before he was anything at all he was a big brother. even in the present he defines his ultimate goal of stardom & how to act like a star by the bench marks of being a good big brother. Don’t even get me started on seeing ppl make tsukasa say an ill word abt saki… they fought in dollfes and he wanted to be taken out back and shot like a lame horse. he 100% was like “well I remember what you’re talking about but you’re upset so clearly I’m wrong” he loves! His sister!! So much!!!! If you like tsukasa you have to love saki those are the rules. His starter vocaloid is the Ideal Big Brother his sister’s favorite stuffed animal is a constant figure in his sekai. His fragment sekai is about being a good big brother.
