So Rashida Tlaib has criticized Michigan’s Attorney General (who is Jewish) of being biased against pro-Palestine/anti-Israel protestors at the University of Michigan, leveling charges against them for trespassing and (iirc) not obeying orders from the police. Tlaib pointed out that the AG hadn’t leveled similar charges for protestors for other causes, and that therefore the reason why she had in this case was because she was somehow biased against propal/antiisrael protestors. She did not say this was because the AG was Jewish, although a lot of people feel like that may have been implied (or that various lefty types would make that connection on their own even if that wasn’t Tlaib’s intention). Personally I don’t like to make assumptions like that.

What I would like to point out however is a common attack point against criticism of the actions of Hamas, Hezbollah, and indeed of college student activists (including ones that aren’t Arab, Muslim, or Palestinian), is that such criticism is Islamophobic or racist against Arabs or Palestinians. I feel like I have seen Tlaib herself do this multiple times. To be fair there definitely are those who extrapolate the actions of Hamas et al to say something about Palestinians, Arabs, or Muslims as a whole, and that is racist, but many (and hopefully most) of the people I see criticizing Hamas et al go out of their way to make it clear they are only criticizing Hamas et al.

i care about the CONTENT OF THAT PARTICULAR ARTICLE.

it should be asked why right wing websites are the only ones talking about this. why are no other news sources discussing these issues? if the ultra left wing was so anti biased and such, why are they not talking about any of this?

why do very few real neutral sources exist?

also you can read ALL SIDES. cnn is horrifically bigoted and hires actual hamas terrorists to write articles, but they still report other topics semi well. fox news is right wing shit and still reported on al jazeera’s retractions. i otherwise loathe fox news.

i will blow off al aj jazeera itself and breitbart (i read both though to know what propaganda comes from where) and others like it, and yes, 90% of other shit piratewire publishes, but the content of this article is important. it’s what jews have been talking about for a long time now and NO ONE HAS BOTHERED TO REPORT IT.

since this came out, free press and others have done their own research and put reports out.

i’m frankly tired of this shit. part of using literacy skills IS reading all sides. in fact, i want to know what the other side says and believes. i want to read what hamas supporters and white nationalists say so i know what i’m fighting against.

would you say reuters is a source then? after its bias? pbs, when it’s also biased? npr? has some of the most disgustingly biased articles about the war out there.

i would take each of these sites on an article by article basis.

we need to start using literacy skills to pick out bias in individual articles as well as larger news websites. yes, news outlets have agendas. yes, it’s frustrating that anything regarding israel is seen as a right wing topic in america, so right wing assholes write about it, but also? i hate to say this, but i can disagree with someone on some issues and agree with them on others. i do not agree with piratewire in general or their biases against anti racism and the lgbtq community. however, this article was probably the one okay thing they’ve ever posted.

i am no longer a leftist and absolutely not right wing, but i want to know what all sides discuss. ALL OF THEM. you can read these articles and pick out what IS the agenda and what IS the fact. is it 100% hateful trash? are there any actual sources quoted? are the quotes correct or misused? is the author themselves biased? what are their connections? what are the author’s credentials too, because many of these sites publish people who are not part of their agenda (mosab hasan yousef is someone only interviewed by right wing sources despite having important information. he has said he’s blacklisted by cnn and others.) another example is dennis prager, who i disagree with on EVERY TOPIC but jewish and israeli history.

the same can be said for numerous people who are amazing when it comes to knowledge of gender and the environment, but are raging antiisrael morons.

you also can and should use any article as a springboard for further research. you also can acknowledge someone knows what they’re talking about on one topic but not others.

all this aside, i will say i should have clarified that i know what this source is and used this as a springboard to talk about why israel and jews are topics mostly discussed by the right wing. and that in some cases, it’s done purposely.
