I briefly talked about it with someone here and it made me think so much that I had to make a post about it - why don't misandrist men get as much hate as misandrist women ?
They are men who think men are horrible and say it. Yet they do not receive the same amount of hate as a feminist saying "I hate men".
There's an example that I find interesting and that I thought I'd share : some decades ago, a very famous leftist french singer, Renaud, made a song that quickly became very popular and loved. It's called "Miss Maggie" and it basically says that men are trash and that women are superior. The thing is, absolutely everyone praises him for it and loves that song. I guess there are some conservatives and incels who hate it, but the vast majority of the country, men and women, loves it ; people say Renaud is amazing and a genius for writing it and that the song is wonderful. Here is a link if you want to listen to it :
(He also criticizes Margaret Tatcher in that song but I won't talk about it in this post because it's not the point).
Here are some lyrics (with the english translation) just so you understand what I'm talking about :
Tumblr media
(Bourgeois women or whores
Who are often the very same
Normal women, stars or uglies
Females of all kinds, I love you
Even to the worst moron
I dedicate these few verses
Born of my disgust for men
And their warrior morality
Because no woman on the planet
Will ever be more stupid than her brother
Nor prouder nor more dishonest)
Tumblr media
(Woman I love you because
When sport becomes war
There are no chicks, or very few
In the hordes of fans
Crazy fanatics
Drunk on hate and beer
Defying the morons in blue
Insulting the bastards in green)
Tumblr media
(The atomic bomb
Didn't come from a female brain
And no woman has on her hands
The blood of Native Americans.
Palestinians and Armenians
Testify from their graves
That genocides are a male thing
Like SS, bullfighters
In this fucking humanity
Murderers are all brothers
Not a woman to compete)
Tumblr media
(Woman I love you, above all, at last
For your weakness and for your eyes
When a man's only strength
Is his gun or his cock
And when the last hour comes
Hell will be full of morons
Playing soccer or war
Playing who pisses the farthest)
Everyone loves that song and Renaud didn't receive any hate for writing it. Now imagine if a woman had written it? Just imagine the amount of hate a female singer would receive if she wrote a song like this. That could ruin her carreer and I am not exaggerating.
Renaud is also known for saying other misandrist things. I remember watching an interview with him, in which he's said that "Women are always there to heal wounds, repair damage, get things done... Unfortunately, there are still too few of them in important positions where they can participate in decision-making", "The oldest form of discrimination is discrimination against women. They are the first group we decided to hate and oppress", "Politicians and religions don't want to let women be more than virgins or whores. They don't want to let them be human beings, women, fulfilled people, with a personality, who work...", "It's not long since women have had the right to vote in France. And what's more, when I see women voting for a man, it gives me the same feeling as if I saw a crocodile going to a leather shop of its own free will...".
And in the comments, absolutely everyone was praising him, calling him a king, an angel and what not. No one to call him names or to tell him horrible things. No one to act as if he's said the craziest thing ever, no one to act as if he committed a crime. Sure some people disagree and insult women, but there is not a lot of hatred against him. Again, a woman would have received a lot of hate if she had said things like that. Just read what men have to say about Delphine Seyrig criticizing the patriarchy and the "indifference of men".
The point of that post isn’t to say that Renaud is The Feminist Ally, that he's perfect and one of the good guys or whatever. I just want to point out that a man criticizing men, saying he hates them, calling out their behaviour (and even saying women are superior!) will never receive the same amount of hate as a woman barely saying "I hate men" or ever way "nicer" things. Sounds like everyone knows why we hate men and even agrees with us deep inside, and just hate when women speak up about it. Sounds like they don't have a problem with misandry but with women 🤷🏽‍♀️

Edward says in Midnight Sun that Siobhan only wanted Maggie's gift and doesn't care for her. Do you think this is true?
No.
From what we see of them in the series and Midnight Sun, the Irish coven operates as a very effective family unit and Siobhan clearly adores Maggie and takes her on things like cross Atlantic shopping trips (when they first run into Edward). She might have picked her out initially for the gift and appreciate the gift but if she didn't care she'd have gotten bored by now/it would be more telling.
But Edward genuinely thinks vampires that are not on the diet are incapable of love and genuine positive human feeling and connection towards one another.
Even the vampires that are 'friends' of the family are viewed in this manner.

I think it's cause it's like Buck is bi largely in part because of buddies supporters loudly advocating for it for years because it made sense for him individually as a character AND because of the ship and people have shipped buddie for over 5 years at this point and some guy comes in and people ship them which is cool and all but then start acting nuts that the people who have been campaigning for a specific ship for years aren't immediately jumping ship because of a different relationship like both of them haven't been in plenty of other ones before this like if people didn't jump ship with Ana or Marisol or BT1.0 or Natalia before we knew that lasted for 3 seconds wtf do they think makes Tommy so special that he has a penis?
For real!!
(I think, partly it has to do with the fact some people in the fandom have never been normal about women ever and continue to villainize them mostly for butting into the ship).
What kills me is the fact Tommy exhibits behaviors of so many other LIs!!
Ana continuously called Eddie Edmundo -> Tommy exclusively refers to Buck as Evan
The main aspect of Abby and Buck's relationship was sex -> Buck and Tommy's entire relationship is about sex
Taylor kissed Buck at a time he was emotionally vulnerable -> Tommy kissed Buck at a time he was emotionally vulnerable
Taylor shut down Buck's concerns about the team (his family) -> Tommy shut down Buck's concerns about Bobby
Natalia put him on a pedestal when they first met -> Tommy put him on a pedestal when they first met (albeit very different ones. Being fascinated by a man who survived a lightning strike and being jealous a man has a found family are completely different matters)
It just goes on and on. But because Tommy is a man, he somehow gets a pass?? Do you think if Taylor said "your father's alive" she'd be treated as nicely as they treat Tommy? Nah.
Maybe it's misplaced happiness at the reality of bi Buck. It's incredible that we have that and got to experience it. I'm so incredibly grateful to the show for giving us that and to Oliver for treating it with such care.
But while we have bi Buck, I think we deserve better representation. Yeah, okay, it's a canon ship, that's great, but is that good enough for you? Why must we settle for good enough when great is available and has been building for 6 years? Representation matters, but good representation matters more. We deserve better than unending, flat sex jokes that are always inappropriate and a man who treats the person he's supposed to care about like he's a nuisance.

"Rick and Negan are the same!" "The main characters are the same as Negan!! They're just as bad!!"
Sorry, have we been watching the same show?
Rick gave up guns and ammo to protect and a small child and a father and then many more to protect a nursing home full of elderly people
Daryl risked his life and limb to get medicine to sick people (more than once) (and in one instance, it was to get medicine to a victim of Negan's system), and he stepped up to get formula for an infant that was not his rather than see her die
Maggie and her family opened up their home to strangers to help them in a time of need, and provided medical care, food, water, and shelter without expecting anything in exchange
Negan basically reinvented feudalism. And only planned to expand his empire of theft and extortion before Rick came along
These characters are not the same

Btw if anyone is cool with Kylie Jenner or anything relating to her just… just block me rn, if I wanted that kind of energy in my life I’d go to like a Goop convention or something. If you wanna know why I don’t like her, here is a post detailing that.
Note: yes I support Tim and his right to make his own choices. Even the dumb ones. That doesn’t mean I think his choices aren’t dumb. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I absolutely do not want to interact with people who support her or are like “omfg their relationship is so cute 😍”. No thanks. Sorry not sorry.

okay. Quick PSA. as the bad batch begins tomorrow and i have recently gotten into formula one: here are some tags for my followers as well as general updates about the content on my blog
for anyone blocking bad batch spoilers pls block “maggie watches tbb” for any live-blogging and “tbb spoilers” for general posting including live blogging and media analysis and—depending on my classload—some one shots and other fics
for anyone who doesn’t wanna hear abt me learning about f1 or my general thoughts on the sport “maggie’s first formula 1 season” “maggie’s first f1 season” will be used interchangeably so block accordingly! This will only be used for my original posts though!!
If any of these things interest you and you wanna chat about it! My askbox is always open!
If you’re here for Percy Jackson, i will continue with some minimal analysis and reblogging general content but with the show’s season one over i’m gonna shift to some other media analysis until we get more information about season 2 but i am still welcome to any asks about my thoughts and opinions on the show!
If you’re here for Masters of the Air, continue to follow any general “masters of the air” tags, to avoid spoilers i’m using “mota spoilers”
In support of the boycott against Stranger Things Noah Schnapp and Brett Gelman i will cease any reblogging and original content creation of that media.

Anna baby, you'll never believe this one (but honestly? You might lol). Did you know Eddie was more misogynistic to Shannon in one episode than Tommy ever was to Hen???
Hi my love ❤️
Their takes on Eddie are atrocious so I fully believe this is something they are saying. I'd ask for the reasoning but I know it's not based on anything real lol

ouu i hate to even be making this post just because overall, i really enjoyed trc !! i think the characters are interesting !! but ugh the casual sexism/racism are driving me up a wall 😭😭 it's just so.. uncomfortable to read. i really like (and still do, minus what i'm about to say) adam's character, but some of the stuff he said in his fight with blue? about raging feminism? and just the way he describes her and having to deliberately try not to stare at her tits? actually insane, maggie why would you write that 😭 and yeahh i know he's a teenage boy and teenage boys are wild and blah blah, but was that really a necessary detail? gansey isn't innocent of this either btw, which is frustrating to see especially when he's supposed to be the endgame love interest. and then the random racist moments that like? the majority of characters make. this is why noah czerny is my favorite. cant do anything wrong if you're dead and faded away i guess

You can expand on the Tommy standoffish thoughts here! Im loving seeing everyone's thoughts
Hi dear! 🥰
Okay, to me, everything about him is standoffish. But let's back up a bit.
His dry humor in 7x03 was actually well placed and the delivery was okay. Joking around and being chummy with Hen was not a way to endear himself to her, but narratively, that wasn't the point. He was there to fly them to the ship. No mas. I don't have too strong a complaint about that. Or 7x04, because even then it was still just okay. I don't like that he called Buck "kid," that's a bit condescending, especially when he doesn't know Buck or Eddie really well enough to have any opinions that hold weight. But for the most part, Tommy in 7x04 was... okay. (Do I think he was more interested in Eddie? Yes, but that's beside the point).
But the minute 7x05 came along, it started down a hill and just kept rolling. I wonder when we'll finally hit rock bottom, honestly. The delivery of his lines is kinda stale in itself, but I don't even need tone of voice to see issue with some of the things he says. Case in point: the date.
Eddie showing up was unfortunate, and anyone in Buck's position would've panicked like he did (although the "hot chicks" line is much more something said on TV rather than in an awkward irl conversation anyway). But Tommy sat there with a neutral look that had a hint of judgement mixed in and tried to force Buck out of the closet. His "Ain't that the truth. Right Evan?" to Eddie's remark about closet space was uncalled for and honestly, to me, downright mean. And Buck's hurt expression in response to that really solidified that feeling for me. Then to leave him on the curb with the most condescending "I think you're adorable," I've heard come out of someone's mouth who wasn't a southern middle aged woman was cold and mean too. If you're really interested in the relationship and seeing if you have a chance, tell the person what was wrong and open that line of communication. Don't leave them standing there after their first date "with a dude" not knowing exactly what went wrong and why you've suddenly lost interest. And then to say "I just don't think you're ready" as you get in the car??? I'm sorry, but no one can decide that but yourself.
The coffee date at the end wasn't much better. It was Buck practically groveling to a guy who thinks he knows all and knows best. The thing about getting the coffee wrong and only saying "so not like that" and leaving it at that instead of providing even a hint of what could be right suggests he expects Buck to put in all the effort. Which he did. He sat there and made his way back into Tommy's good graces and went 0 to 100 inviting him to the wedding. And instead of suggesting something a little more laid back, something that wasn't so much pressure, Tommy just went along with it.
And I've heard so many arguments about how Tommy couldn't wear a costume to the bachelor party because he was on call. I've got some news. I live with someone who's on call quite a lot. That has zero affect on their wardrobe. Why? Because they have to change into a uniform anyway. Tommy's refusal to indulge Buck even a little bit in that moment may not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but I've been Buck in that situation. It sucks. You want someone you care about to care about you too, and sometimes that means indulging in things that to you, seem silly or unnecessary. When he tells Buck "they had henleys in the 80s," it was a brush off, scoff and sneer included.
7x09, strictly speaking canon, is much the same. Every couple was shown having a sweet moment. It's an emotional high, you're being rewarded for work above and beyond the call of duty! It's not unusual to want to be close to the people you care about. Buck was shown as Tommy's support. There was a perfect opportunity for them to at the very least bump shoulders or hold hands as they walked and talked. But what we got was "enjoy it while it lasts" in response to Buck's enthusiasm. Like taking a needle to a balloon.
The deleted scene was no better. He was intentionally obtuse, avoiding the question he knew Hen and Karen were asking. If he was serious about the relationship or at the least wanted to reassure them that he and Buck were in a good place, he wouldn't have dodged with the cake comments and made the contradictory statement about how slow the relationship was progressing (and any and all of what he said could be euphemisms and sex jokes once again. Kinda inappropriate if you're trying to win over your boyfriend(?)s friends/ family).
And I'm probably gonna get so much shit for it, but I'm gonna say it all anyway. The 7x10 scene was just as bad. Think from Buck's perspective. He's had a shit week. All he wants is a quiet dinner (he absolutely stress cooks) with the guy he's been seeing for some time now. By then, you would think there's a level of intimacy and trust in place that allows you to be open with your partner about something that's worrying you. Buck wanted a shoulder to lean on. Instead of accepting the invitation to be vulnerable with each other and have a conversation that could've brought them closer, Tommy not only made it about himself, but then made it into a sex joke. The joke was not, and never will be, the problem. The problem is the fact he didn't want to open up to Buck and instead used humor to deflect. Which could've worked! But instead it fell very very flat. I'm not going to make the comparison I want to make because it's not the point right now. The fact is, he could've been a shoulder for Buck to lean on, and simply refused to.
And that's been the pattern. He could've done X, but didn't.
He could've been open and honest and kind, but chose instead to always be dismissive, sarcastic, and as you asked in the poll, standoffish.
(if you read this I love you 🩷)
