I called it, this is definitely a shot for shot remake! DeBlois you are guilty to be a liar. There’s just one scene different that’s the one with Stormfly and that’s just filmed in a different ankle. So that’s not a different movie after all. Lol, I knew it!
This movie is just another proof how creative bankrupt Hollywood is, if they only can do remakes of something that didn’t need a remake in the first place.
But who knows how far they will go with this? I‘m sure they will do the same thing with KFP and Httyd as Disney did with Star Wars and Marvel. Milk them until they are dead and then beat them, even if they are already dead.

I'm so tired of people telling those of us who are upset about the LA atla remake that we are "being too dramatic" or are just "finding things to be upset about". We are allowed to be upset that something that we love so dearly has been butchered, AGAIN. If you liked it, then that's your personal opinion, but don't sit here and tell those of us who didn't that we're the problem.
I personally think the CGI, costumes, and sets all look terrible. None of it is immersive. Sure, it LOOKS like atla, but it doesn't FEEL like atla. The heart of the og is gone, and people are allowed to be upset about this. They've altered characters to the point that they aren't the character anymore (looking at you Aang and Katara), which is a huge upset for me personally because Katara is one of my favorite characters ever. So watching her be turned into someone meek and docile is more than a slap to the face. Not to mention them removing her as the narrator as if Bryke themselves didn't state that Katara is the person the story is being told through. And before you start telling me that Aang is the same. No, he isn't. Major parts of his development through season 1 (him coming to terms with the fact that he's the avatar and embracing that role, and him also accepting the fact that he RAN AWAY and how he is never going to do that again, which is also pivotal to his character later on) are completely removed. And don't even get me started on what they did to Kataang. Regardless of whether you ship them or not, those 2 are deeply connected to one another from the start, and their relationship is a big part of the show, so to see that butchered is heartbreaking for me.
This isn't just about them "making some changes" or it not being a 1:1 adaptation. I'm fine with adaptations that aren't 1:1. What I'm upset about is that the changes they are making are VITAL changes to characters and dynamics between characters. They're rushing through the plot and condensing the story (and I will scream if I hear one more person say that it's because they couldn't fit it all in with their runtime. The runtime is an HOUR LONGER than the og, so yes, they did have the time). The changes they are making make it evident that they do not understand the og show, and if you don't feel like that, fine, once again, that's YOUR opinion, just as this is MY opinion. So stop telling us we have no right to be upset and that we just want to hate everything. That's not true. What is true is that we are expressing valid complaints about another bad adaptation of something dear to us.
Edit: If you also come at people who are upset bc they were expecting a faithful adaptation and didn't get it bc "its not supposed to be the cartoon," you're missing the whole point. An adaptation is ADAPTING SOMETHING from one medium to the other, not rewriting it. "Yall expected it to be just like the cartoon." No, I expected a FAITHFUL ADAPTATION and was met with poorly written fanfiction.

I need everyone who defends natla's writing to raise their standards because the current entertainment industry takes advantage of your "anti criticism" mindset and gives us mediocre shit like this😭

Why in the world we need How to train your dragon live action when the og is not even that old, i mean the last movie in the franchise was released in 2019.
Look i get it might be so they can keep the author rights, but the these movies does not need a live action remake, i mean at this point we are all tired of this lifeless live actions.
Like just find a new children books to adapt or animate, i am pretty sure that there are plenty of these books that are unknown and are waiting to be adapted properly.

My prediction for the new Netflix Avatar the Last Airbender show is that it’ll ignite the most annoying discourse ever conceived, perhaps surpassing that of the 2020 ATLA renaissance.
Also, the potential for Bryke’s initial vision of the live action series will live on in people’s imagination as a shining ideal that the INFERIOR Netflix show could never ever top, not realizing that it was realistically never going to live up to the standards of their childhood nostalgia. Mark my words, this adaptation is going to be no different from the other unsatisfactory adaptations and it may even cause a worse reaction because of the high esteem the original animated show holds in everyone’s memory. So, people are going to cope by telling themselves that Bryke’s vision would’ve been far superior to the Netflix adaptation (even though there are a multitude of reasons why one would doubt that) and spend the runtime of it moaning about this and that.
All of those inflammatory articles about what the show is going to change proves my point tremendously. It’s enough to make you want to break the laws of reality and rescue Katara from the disparaging discourse that’s going to resurface now that ATLA is going to become relevant again. People are already in the process of idealizing Bryke’s original plan (which no one has ever heard, mind you) and it gives me such a headache.

How uncomfortable a romance between them would be to see... It's so visually disturbing.

In all honesty, whether they do Zutara or not, I think Kataang is going to be taken out of the equation anyway.

Remember when back in 2018 they remaked Heathers and it was so bad we all decided not to watch it or even talk about it and soon everyone everyone forgot that happened?
We should do that more often instead of wasting time on hatewatching and being negative 24/7, just saying

The Nostalgia Trap of live action remakes
With the upcoming httyd remake we enter now a new phase were the live action remakes just like the marvel and star wars sequels can’t be stopped anymore. At least for Disney, for DreamWorks, we the audience can still stop them if we just don’t go into this nostalgia trap these remakes are. And yeah the live action adaptation of httyd looks somewhat good, even if I think it looks like a fanmade film, and even those look better than this and also it looks so far like a shot for shot remake, were they changed little to nothing. Also I find it really disrespectful that httyd 2 has now to share its Anniversary with this upcoming remake. And yeah, they really played on Nostalgia in this trailer and promotional material with a blender, somewhat worse version of Test Drive. I can’t believe John Powell re-composed this. It’s just the first httyd again but without the emotion and the beauty of the scenery. What made the original trilogy work so well, was the fact that it was animated.
It might be a good movie but it’s probably the same movie all over again but less beautiful and impactful. In this case I’m glad Remakes are so forgettable. They ruined Test Drive already with making some shots way too fast. This is not why Test Drive is a masterful scene in the first place. It’s as I said it’s just a nostalgia trap were you can simply watch the original at home and can feel the same nostalgic feeling and recall old memories. And let’s be real they do this not only for a simple cash grab but also to promote their theme park. Also half of the movie will obviously be cgi animated. So what’s even the point? This movie will prove how out of ideas Hollywood really is and how they disrespect animation as a lesser form of art.

“we’re taking out this problematic aspect because showing characters doing things the audience might not like could be uncomfy” “we’re taking out unnecessary side plots & making everything more mission centric” “these characters were pretty flawed in the original incarnation of this work so we decided to make them more palatable & the story more straightforward”

So question: The disney sequels have a mostly-deserved reputation for being unnesscary cookie-cutter cash grabs. Are the any that you think were actually enjoyable?
Hi, you mean the live-action remakes, right? Actually, yes! Read below.
Yeah, I enjoyed:
Alice in Wonderland (2010) Cinderella (2015) Beauty and the Beast (2017) Christopher Robin (2018) That's it. 1. I love Alice in Wonderland (the book, and the story in general). It's special to me. Burton's Alice is an actual, genuine sequel film supposed to take place years after the events in Alice's in Wonderland. It borrows elements from the novels Disney didn't fit in in the animated version, and it brought together creative minds who were perfect for bringing Lewis Carroll's Wonderland to life in fresh ways. I like Alice in it in particular; Alice is the only female character I will tolerate people calling a 'feminism icon' or any variant of that, and in this movie, my reasons why are on full display. I could elaborate, but that would take too long, so I won't. I love Alice in Burton's movie; she's book-accurate to a T, right down to the wild mane of hair from the original illustrations, and having her champion Wonderland and rekindle her 'muchness' was a perfect character arc for an older Alice. Again, could elaborate, again, not going to. 2. Cinderella (2015) is a national treasure and there's nothing wrong with it. Nothing. It's exactly as colorful, magical, and moral as it ought to be. The writing is exquisite, the simplicity of the theme "have courage and be kind" is so well-done, and again, perfectly cast. If you're going to remake an animated classic, this is how it's done. Take the best points of the original story and expand on it; try to make it even brighter. A++. 3. Let me be clear. Let me explain about Beauty and the Beast (2017). I would rather watch the original, animated BatB every single time. I only included this film on my list because I like snow, and I like the new songs, and I like the costumes (except Belle Watson's dress, put that zipper AWAY-) and I like Ewan McGregor, and I like Emma Thompson, and I like Dan Stevens. It's a feast for the eyeballs and the ear holes, sort of like the original (but nothing even close to the original). I won't duck my head and act like I didn't have fun with this film when it first came out, or like I wouldn't turn it on late at night if it was snowing outside and I had a fire going. In the right mood, I would. Visually appealing. Musically delightful. Everything else about it is garbage, and a waste of time. I spit upon it all. Emma Watson played a plank of wood in a dress whining about women, the Beast's character arc deserved more, Gaston should have been worse, Lefou was a joke, no. No. Ew, ew, ew.
4. Christopher Robin (2018) was an actual sequel, like Alice, and everyone should watch it. Everyone should make their favorite warm drink and go get a blanket and watch it. Again, nothing wrong with it. Absolutely wonderful from start to finish. Pooh is himself, Piglet is himself, they're all themselves. All of them. And Ewan McGregor was stellar. The theme, the execution, the pacing, genuinely a flawless love letter to everything about Winnie the Pooh, and Disney's version of Pooh, and the whole Hundred Acre Wood, including the ones we all had when we were children. Exactly what it should have been. No notes. A++. Yes! I enjoyed those. Had fun with those. None of the others.

Bad reasons to not watch Snow White (2025): Because Gal Gadot is in it and you're an anti-Semite.
Good reasons to not watch Snow White (2025): All the rest of them.
