This is the only post I’m personally going to make about Hogwarts Legacy. Guys, we need to be in solidarity with each other. I’m seeing a lot of LGBTQ+ dismissing Jewish voices. It’s been very disappointing to see people I follow brushing off Jewish voices and I’m seeing it in general posts as as well. There is no reason for that. Jewish people have some very serious concerns and have been faced with persecution and violence. It’s nauseating seeing the anti-Semitism in the game. It can’t be ignored. However, we should continue to  acknowledge that transgender people have been facing persecution and violence and laws that are threatening the right to even exist.  There are a lot of people who have multiple parts to their identity including Jewish POC and Jewish transgender people and Jewish transgender POC just like there are transgender POC voices, too.  Similarly, Jewish people should also be supportive of the Transgender community as well.  We need to be supportive of everyone who is being targeted using their voices  This isn’t something that I should have to say.

Exactly. It was extremely formative for many of us. I understand people are shocked and hurt, but like you said, OP, trans lives matter far more. Boycotting isn’t always easy. That’s one of the points of it.

Okay, I grew up with HP, right? I grew up with it and as I got older and appreciated some of the more adult themes in it (while also acknowledging it’s problematic elements). But, you know what I did when I found out Rowling was using her money/influence to hurt an already marginalized group? I just… stopped. I stopped engaging, I stopped spending my money on it, I stopped talking about it. And it was pretty easy for me. So, I think you can do it too. Because at the end of the day, trans lives mean more than nostalgia.

First dream of the new year that I've been able to fully recall upon waking, for some reason.

I was a character in a children's cartoon trying to help an anthropomorphic bat gain self-confidence. It worked until his family came home (also bats) and I discovered the reason he was so insecure was because his whole family had an obsession with tomato ketchup and would only eat meals covered in the stuff, and would force feed Bat Guy ketchup when he talked back to them.

I took him out of the house and to a bakery so we could buy some churros. The baker brought out an iPad and wouldn't give us any pastries until we'd watched the rewrite of Harry Potter he'd been working on, which he claimed fixed the problems with the original. Every now and again, the screen would cut to JK Rowling (which I reacted to like a jumpscare every time) wearing a crown and telling us why her original version was better.

We never got the churros.

This same guy made a tiktok months ago in which he supported Johnny Depp too, so I find it even more distasteful of him to demonize JKR, an actual victim of domestic violence and sexual assault

Also, none of his tiktoks, dedicated to romani issues, have ever discussed Romani women's rights. He never made any video to address Romani women's reproductive rights being taken away from us, Romani women being discriminated in hospitals, Romani women being pimped into sexual slavery, etc. And of course, acknowledging that Romani men are the first perpetrator of violence against Romani women (check the IPV and DV rates of Romani women, it's in my pinned post) will not make the cause look good i guess. By participating in the villification of (white) female survivors like Amber Heard and JKR, male romani activists are proving that they don't care about women's issues, including those that impact the majority of romani women

it’s so hypocritical how people are treating. Yea, Taylor has some privileges, but she still has had her fair share of issues and you can’t discount them just because of the other factors.

I honestly haven't lol. I don't go to the hateful sides of Tumblr.

I think...I think you're absolutely right in saying trauma should never be discounted. Taylor has experienced many traumas that she SHOULD talk about, and that are super relatable. It's absolutely not okay for people to take that trauma from her and it's never okay to vindictively or maliciously make fun of someone. (Except JKRowling) I admire her so much for speaking about those things and for being so amazingly talented. And for like..who she is as a person.

I also agree that you can't discount someones trauma because of their priviledge. Ever.

What I WILL say is that it is okay for people to hold others accountable for their actions. If a community feels a lyric is insensitive, it's okay to say that- in a way that doesn't like..attack anyone. I mean, if we can't say how we feel, things escalate, and nobody learns. Taylor is a rich, white, cis woman, and she does hold some privileges because of that. People with privilege (myself included) can be ignorant without even realizing it, that's the essence of privilege, and need to be held accountable.

But it's important to know the difference between holding someone accountable and bullying, and the internet sometimes crosses a line, there. People tend to literally tear Taylor apart for every little thing, and a lot of times, she's not the only person making those mistakes (ie people making a huge deal of her jet emissions when many other famous people had equal or higher emissions but were not called out). It calls into question- why is Taylor often made the scapegoat?

I'm not saying she couldn't do better. But I think we need to think about how we act about a literal person, you know? She's not a machine or a company.

Anyone who thinks I defend Victoria on every action clearly has not like, interacted me beyond memes or read any of my critique of her actions and choices.

The thing is, that I’m willing to enjoy a character, critique them, AND engage with the text as a matter of analysis beyond “Vicky bad” or “Taylor bad” or the opposite whatever.

For example, I disagree with Victoria in her early arcs of trying to have nostalgia of the unwritten rules, and it’s quite clear that many of her fond memories as a hero are actually underscoring her abusive childhood and toxic upbringing that is covered in rose tinted glasses except for moments of lucidity. However, I also understand where she is coming from and think it’s interesting to engage with the text to examine why she defends this value as a character, for better or worse in her development.

As another example with Taylor. I think Taylor is a victim of the system and was abused/enabled by bad actors like Armsmaster, Coil/Lisa to an extent, and that the heroes of the city played a strong part in disillusioning her and driving her to what she became. I can also engage with the text and point out that her choice to brutally sexually batter Triumph by inserting bugs up his rectum and penis to bite him from the inside was her conscious decision that she must be judged for as a person.

Liking Victoria “exile dimension” Dallon or Taylor “bug in pee-hole” Hebert despite their actions is not “apologism”.

That’s just enjoying a character.

Debating and discussing the actions and consequences of a character, from multiple perspectives and using text to defend your position (or the character position as a devils advocate) is not “apologism”.

That’s just called media analysis.

Not that I expect the “piss on the pour” website to be a bastion of high quality discussion, but the puritanical “if you don’t agree/if you agree with/if you don’t like/if you do like X character then you are bad person/weirdo” judgement that I’ve seen here is remarkably old hat.

Might as well bring back being morally evil if you prefer shipping NaruxSaku over NaruxHina or the gold tier NaruxSasu from the MySpace days.
