Something I have started to wonder about the "anti" and "critical" crowd.

What? If anything did you people believe you are going to accomplish by endlessly going on about how bad both Vivienne and her work are?

I mean you people have put so many works criticizing her work but according to you she hasn't listened to any of you so why keep trying?

Do you actually believe that your "criticisms" are legitimate and that you will be the ones who will "save" both series?

I would think that if you really think it's that bad the I would have thought that you all would have just given up on the series and stopped trying.

Do you think that vivi really is a monster that must be brought down? That she's a sexist, racist, a demon for lack of a word? If so why? Because she had some vague aspects of her charaters that are stereotypical? Because she didn't put enough focus on the female cast for you liking? Because she made a couple of tasteless jokes?

Look I genuinely don't want to start a fight here, but it just Don't see the point of what you all are doing. Why does vivi and her work make you so upset? Do even believe the things you say or do you just do it because it gets you attention? Ether way I could try and understand.

*sigh* look if it makes you all feel better I don't believe either show is flawless, it has some tonal issues, some moments don't get proper build up, not all of the jokes land, some cast members do tend to hog the spotlight but my main question is if I can look past that and see something good why can't you?

I have never seen a more mean spirited list where its options misunderstand the series

1- Rushed AF. look guys, S1 for most streaming services get the 8-10ep treatment because that's what gets order, unless stated, this is NOT always in control of the creators, also the series has 1 season to its name, you can label it as rushed when it's completed, otherwise, you don't know what a slow burn is.

2- Racism, WHERE TF DID YOU EVEN SEE IT IS S1?

3- Graphic Sex Scene - WHERE!? if this is in ep 4, we didn't see any dicks going around outside of seeing Val grind up on Angeldust and even then, it wasn't graphic and used to show how awful Val treats Angeldust, if it's not to your liking that's fine, but many SA victims within the fandom and some outside have at praised ep4's rep.

4-Painfully bad songs, man you must not be a musical stage show fan then and it shows.

5- "even more r4pe jokes" WHERE? you mean the scene with sir pentious at the bar called CONSENT where he emerged unharmed, clothes intact because any rationally thinking person can tell he said no, and they let him go?

6- Lute get completely forgotten. Dude SLOW BURN, Lute won't be the main antagonist this season, but we'll definitely be seeing her

7- "5 + new characters who add nothing" At this point why do you even watch the show? everyone who is introduced in this season is being set up so future seasons won't be saddled with trying to introduce them. and even then, half the cast outside the hotel staff ARE SIDE/MINOR/SUPPORITNG characters they aren't the main focus

8- Adam never gets brought up apart from jokes" - oh no the misogynist gets laughed at also kinda hard for him to be brought up when he's dead outside of flashbacks

9-"an actually good song" - you must have ignored how most of the songs in the show actually hit the top lists on spotify

10-"rushed redemptions" Pentious's redemption was shown in the season and was believable, his small acts of kindness and his willingness to put his life on the line to beat adam earned his redemption it wasn't rushed, but even if it was, again this goes back to the order Prime gave to have 8eps, until we know for certain, we can only guess it wasn't in the teams control.

11- "pentious contributes nothing" i'm beginning to think this list is biased against Pentious and is just looking for reasons to put a bingo

12- "Only 1 real Chaggie Scene" Sapphic-phobia must be blinding this person because Chaggie has moments throughout the season, they don't need a makeout session, the simple gestures, eye contact, hand holding, etc. all show they are a couple and there are couples who act this way. just say you hate sapphic couples

13-Alastor's backstory sucks" - picking something just to fill the hole

14- Ace/Arophobia - idk man this list is against sapphic couples so i'm going to go with this just being something random they wanted to put

15- Vee's get too much focus, AGAIN" Oh my god this one hurt, out of all the Vees, Val and and Vox got the most screen time and even then they're establishing ep was just that, ESTABLISHING them so they don't feel like they come out of nowhere when S2 comes since Vox is the big bad there. Val got his establishing ep in ep4 so we know what is at stake and what is Angeldust's situation, his guest spot in ep6 was to establish that Angeldust can resist Val and took a stand against his abuser, which showed he was someone who can be worthy of redemption, but oh guess an important character peiece is too much. Vel has the least screen time, but her enterance was memorable and she'll probably get more. so idk WTF this is about.

Gonna be honest i was going to do all of these, but 15 is where i got my limit because everything else after is just repetittive dribble that's insult a character who hasn't shown up yet and insulting another character who plays an important part

Antis of this show really are just Lily Orchard wannabes because they assume the worst of something just because they don't even like it.

I am not "anti Dana Terrace" and I think her art style outside the Owl House is far more amazing than Alex's as her general body of work, including the Owl House, is far more superior to anything that Alex Hirsch has ever done, or will do, and I believe that he didn't deserve her and I hope that Dana goes on to have many further successes in the span of her career as artist and I look forward to the prospect of her making some interesting adult animation that I'd be happy to support in the future. This post is dedicated to our favorite sexual sacrifice, Emberlynn Pinkle, and why she is an important character even if we never see her again. Let’s buckle in for a crazy character analysis of someone we’ve only seen for 4 minutes.

There are many facets of this short that hold importance, including but not limited to the mysterious pendant, any potential foreshadowing, parallels between Emberlynn and pre-Ozzie’s Stolas, etc. What I want to talk about is the character of Emberlynn herself and what is truly represents.

Many anti’s of the show are foaming at the mouth over her, particularly the fact that Emberlynn is a caricature of the Hellaverse fandom that was created specifically to make fun of us. Funnily enough, many of us who have been in actual fandom spaces are not unfamiliar with people like Emberlynn, and at some point, a fair number of us admit to being like her, which is the main thing I want to touch on.

People watering Emberlynn and the short down to a cheap shot at fandoms and fans of the show is intellectually lazy. It can be seen as a critique of peoples’ own biases considering many of us that have been in fandom spaces have done so for a long time. And it’s funny, because these people have been threatening to doxx fans, harm them, send messages to their bosses to get them fired, to schools so they’d lose scholarships, etc. The kind of people that would order a hit on us in hell…Many anti’s and people who are against cringe culture often participate in it unwittingly. Take for instance, the anti’s of the Hellaverse shows who dedicate entire blogs to picking apart everything from character interaction to even three second frames. They take over the tags associated with the fandom just so they can pump bitter content out, and are actively hostile when fans confront them over their weird behavior. Because fans of Helluva Boss or Hazbin Hotel are normally not the kind of people who would watch entire seasons, keep up on content and lore, or interact with actors and fandom over something they hate. We would just…not watch it and not interact. And it’s that kind of strange behavior that is intrinsic in fandom. Fandom spaces have forever had a dark side, that much is undeniable, but now more than ever there has been an influx of people unaccustomed and socially unequipped to participate and interact in the spaces that have been infesting it.

I have been in fandom spaces since 2013 and my first fandom was Hetalia. If you know you know. Many people in these spaces have been targeted for being “freaks” for years, but the areas where we have thrived, made friends and enjoyed ourselves was relatively untouched by the “normies”. That’s definitely changed in recent years, especially when the pandemic forced people who would normally socialize in other spaces come to ours. We all remember alt fashion blowing up in 2020 just for people to be finding entire wardrobes of it at goodwill not even 2 years later. And when they came in, they started adding rules and stipulations. They would allow themselves permission to interact with us weirdo outcasts, but only in a way that could give them plausible deniability later when they knew the trend wouldn’t last. They would enter a space that was nerdy and when furry iconography would show up they would whine about furries “making it weird” when it was already “weird”. They would dress and call themselves punk but still think it was important to listen to “both sides”. And when it comes to the Hellaverse, it’s popular, and entering the mainstream via Amazon picking up Hazbin, but if you’re not willing to be critical of its unsavory parts then you’re complicit in things like rape, violence, drug use, etc.

These people have infiltrated our community, which sounds extreme but when I remember it from my teen years vs now, I think these people genuinely would’ve combusted on sight. Like I said before, I was in the Hetalia fandom for many years. If you don’t remember, people were cosplaying as Germany and doing the Nazi salute at cons and concentration camps. It was bad. It was equivalent to our new blackface Alastor controversy. Back then, the fandom handled it ourselves. We all agreed that that was unacceptable behavior, and people would express disgust, but they were also productive. Fans would post about how we needed to realize that there was real history behind this show and that we needed to be mindful when participating in that environment. I saw many cosplayers altering their costumes to be more mindful. Germany cosplayers would refuse to wear iron cross, which isn’t even technically solely fascisitic in nature, but did it anyway because it was seen as respectful. I’ve seen a resurgence of the fandom on tiktok recently and all of us are allowing ourselves to enjoy it, because for years we had to pretend that we were stupid weirdos for liking it to begin with. Fandom has to allow itself to be cringe again, as it has been affected by people that are in an echo chamber of self righteousness and acceptability.

Getting back to Emberlynn, I have hardly ever seen a take off of a character like this. Even when it was shown that Baxter was coming in season 2 of Hazbin I saw maybe a handful of fan arts and videos. But Emberlynn has EXPLODED. I watched the short when it had been out for only 26 minutes, and within the hour my feeds across all social media were full of her.

I genuinely think that it’s because she is the epitome of fandom, where all of our cringe has been rolled into one character. Her self insert name is literally a reference to old fandom. She’s a proshipper, a selfshipper, she gets into shipping wars and has been fighting with people online for almost a decade. She said the pendant was from an episode “569”, which is strange wording because episodes aren’t usually formatted that way in any sort of media, which could potentially mean that she’s watched over 500 episodes of Akuma no Otto. Her room is full of pornographic material, figurines, the BODY PILLOW. I mean come on. Her parents are fully aware that she watches hentai. She was upstairs moaning and crying while interacting with Blitz and being stabbed and her parents did not go up to check on her, nor think it was out of the ordinary. She is pastel goth, a subset of the gothic culture, and writes self insert fanfiction. She’s A MONSTERFUCKER. HELLO?? When everyone in the Hellverse is as hot as they are…come on. When she dies and goes to hell her sinner form has furry influences. All of us love her because even if we were never fully like her (ie stalkerish, obsessive), we’ve been like her in some way at some point, or even now. I write fanfiction. I’m part of alternative fashion and culture. I’ve been into cringe stuff for a while. I’m not necessarily super into furry stuff, but I love the suits, the artistry and even had an idea for an oc once. My profile pic is literally my Sinner OC.

Emberlynn is a return to form for the standard of fandom spaces and I think to those of us that truly embrace the lifestyle, it’s refreshing. She does not exist in the realm of acceptability; she’s fat, intense and unapologetic. And yet, she’s still super hot, funny, and entertaining. We don’t love her because she’s a respectable fan, we adore her because she’s insane. I’m a cofounder of a Facebook group about being fans of the Vees and we all agree that she would actually do well with Valentino, because that cutie needs some disrespectful eldrich cock ASAP lol. It’s refreshing, and even if we never see her again, I still find her completely relevant and interesting.

Honey, I know you must be upset about the voice actress of Penny Parker being the new voice of the bug maid in the official Hazbin series, just like you were upset about her pilot actress also being the new official voice for beloved Sanrio icon My Melody, but how about instead of using "weird", you just go entirely mask off and start labeling Medrano and her fanbase with the R-Slur, like you want to, and get it over with, kay?

Having a lot of proship mutuals and many mutuals that would be "problematic" by antis standards because the real world is complicated and nuanced and seeing your mutual say all proshippers are pedophiles. Is just. An experience. This is gonna be a long one.

And I could get into the more serious side of things and the psychology of things and philias such as pedophilia, but that's a very nuanced and often triggering topic so. Probably not.

And also seeing Charlie x Alastor (hazbin hotel) be called a proship and being seen as awful to ship. We don't even like the ship ourselves especially if it gets into smut/nsfw territory. But like. What??? It's fine if you don't wanna interact with it. But to essentially lump this really largely benign ship into proshipping because you don't like it.

"it ignores canon that he's aroace and she has a girlfriend." And vivzie used to ship Alastor with Mimzi before making him aroace because "romance didn't fit his story for the show." I heavily still ship Alastor and Mimzi among other Alastor ships. I'm literally aroace too.

"She literally sees him as a dad." I've seen people shipping Carmilla with her own daughters. I even used to ship her daughters cause before the show we didn't know they were sisters. Also character interpretations can be so wildly different too. And many fandom peeps don't even attach heavily to canon. Canon is not the end all be all of fandom.

Like. Alastor x Charlie is the least problematic ship I've seen people ship. Do I like it? Not really, no. It does make me uncomfortable. But to label it in a way as proship (meaning it's bad and people who like it are awful morally since it's an anti definition of proship) is so weird. You don't have to like it. But to lump people in with those "weirdos you hate" because you don't like the ship. When you're clearly someone that hates proshippers is...so gross.

I don't even care about shipcourse or any discourse. It triggers my moral ocd and a lot of it is just freaking out over things that aren't that big of a deal. And ignores any nuanced discussion because antis paint everything black and white because of their personal boundaries. (I used to be more anti cause of my moral ocd and personal triggers for trauma. Yeah. It's a bs mindset.)

There's far worse things to worry about than someone shipping something you don't like or a ship that's illegal. And even with more actually problematic ships like incest and pedophilia ships. It's far more nuanced. And even then, fiction as an outlet actually DOES help ACTUAL pedophiles from offending. Like. When helping to treat pedophilia because it's a mental disorder in the DSM-V. It is encouraged for safe fictional outlets and a supportive environment to lower risk of offending. Removing fictional outlets even IF someone was a pedophile is actually risking more harm. And even then. Most people doing this aren't pedophiles themselves.

I'm a csa survivor too. I've literally looked into this to challenge my beliefs and triggers. Out of pure morbid curiosity to understand it. And it is a LOT more nuanced and complicated than online internet shipcourse can convey. People shipping fictional illegal things aren't hurting others. Most of those just breach containment BECAUSE of antis or because of algorithms on websites that people can't control. I've been more exposed to triggering ships like All Might x Deku because of antis and google images than I have by the creators of the content themselves. When I was more anti, I was far more triggered because of seeing so much of that shit. Now I'm more proship cause I literally don't give a fuck and have more important issues. And like. I barely see triggering ships and content like that. Unless I'm specifically researching things or scrolling on a hyperfixation.

Actually having looked into the psychology and research behind such this. It is a LOT more complicated than antis give credit for. And more complicated than most people on either side care to know. Proshippers are just living their lives. They aren't here for the in depth morals and research behind these things. But if they were, it more heavily supports them.

And having been more of an anti. That shit made my mental health so much worse. Because you genuinely do not know what could be labelled a proshipper thing. It could be something that's fucked up that you like (Attractions are neutral and it is not controllable. If someone were distressed by their attractions then demonizing does not help them seek help. Most people will discover their attractions in their teen years or whenever they hit puberty. And many professionals still don't fully understand philias or kinks or attractions.) or it could be a benign ship that doesn't stick to canon.

There's plenty of ships I don't like. There's plenty of ships that are illegal and make me uncomfortable and upset. And really. The best thing to do is to just scroll or block and move on. That has been far better than me obsessing about these people I hate for doing things I don't like.

And even outside of fandom, these things are not black and white. It's far more complicated. Let. Let random people on the internet ship what they want. You don't have to like it. If it's a ship, even if it's immoral or illegal, let people ship it. If it genuinely helps them, regardless of whether it's "healthy" or not, then it doesn't matter. It is not up to you to decide what is healthy or good for other people. Blocking people you don't like will make you forget about em real quick. Whether it's justified cause they're an asshole or something petty and small.

I'm so tired of mostly antis making it a whole fucking thing because people are complex and complicated and weird. I've been in fandoms since I was 11. I'm an adult now. People will be fine. The only thing hurting fandom spaces is fucking shipcourse and the way people react to "problematic" ships.

why the “being from hell is just an excuse” argument pisses me off!

my personal thoughts on why this argument is deeply flawed.

Look the hellaverse is no stranger to moral grey areas and complex situations. But I have come to loathe this bullshit argument because more often than not it in of it’s self is a excuse to deny the fact any character you may not happen to like not like and scrub away the nuance of any given situation like steel wool.

speaking personally as a neurodivergent individual I have never really understood what makes something an excuse vs a reason and if any neurotypical can explain it to me in the comments I would appreciate it because from my point of view the only difference between a reason and a excuse is that an excuse is simply any reason someone doesn’t happen to like which leads me to why I think this argument is flawed and too often used in bad faith.

point number 1 is that this augment fails to take into account the damage that a bad environment can have on a person. Let’s take the arguably biggest victim of this fallacy blitz. He’s the one to actively say it and people immediately jumped on this bandwagon of interpreting this as him deflecting criticism but I always interpreted it as him asking “why me specifically?” To which veroskia doesn’t answer she instead insults him. She never proved his argument wrong or even came up with a counter argument so I’m inclined to believe that she doesn’t actually have a way to prove him wrong and speaking of veroskia I would like to note something very interesting. Nearly all of the characters who say that hell doesn’t have to be shitty are generally in positions of power or have been in positions of power ei privileged. Veroskia the pop star, stolas the prince and who can forgot the most sugar sweet princess of hell who had an entire arc about learning that she isn’t acknowledging the reality of hell around her and for veroskia specifically in addition to her pop star status it’s possible and even likely that concubi like her are higher on the food chain than imps so what would any of these characters know about dealing with the reality of hell? Now that I think about it this argument Begins to feel like elitist dogma. “The poor are using the fact that have barely enough money to pay for their basic needs as an excuse for not making enough money”

Point number two. “But there characters who aren’t assholes in hell!! So that makes being in hell an excuse!!!” Yeah sure just because there are exemptions doesn’t make the rule invalid or nonexistent. For every demon that might have a rainbow inside them there will be a thousand more that have nothing inside them besides selfishness and malice. For cripes sake Millie’s family treats murder like a hoppy and drug dealing is a legitimate business along side Assassination!!

point three. “But but but admitting your not perfect is whwh what quarmire did so it’s ok to be a self righteous hypocrite!!” Look pal yeah admitting that you have a problem is only the first step and not everyone gets past that but what’s the last time you saw a self righteous hypocrite look in the mirror and say “I don’t want to be like this, not forever”?

the point I’m trying to make here is that while yes being from hell isn’t nesscraily a free pass to be an absolute asshole to everyone but if you just call it an excuse you essentially say “no deeply rooted phycological issues don’t matter and neither does being from a place where murder happens every second”. If anyone has any counter arguments please let me know in the comments below.
