really do hate how characters are being stripped of characteristics that make them interesting in the first place.

Remus ran away from his problems, he was a coward, he never stood up for himself because he comes from a disadvantaged position. He can never be brave, my guy was grateful he was even allowed to go to hogwarts. That's also why he's so blindly loyal to Dumbldore, of course he feels indebted grateful towards him.

My Remus would never be this confident cocky Casanova guy people depict him as?? You guys know we can have conventionally unattractive characters right?? Not everyone has to be self assured, we have cocky Sirius and James already.

Literally where are the fics where he's so scarred he's ugly, has a bad leg, uses a cane, has chronic pains???

You can have your headcanons where Sirius is dressed up in skirts, wearing make up, I don't mind gender something Sirius! What do James stans find special about him? That guy isn't inspirational at all. Hell, his death couldn't have been more pathetic and useless. What makes him appealing?

At school, he was nothing but a bullying criminal. Harrassing anyone he wanted, sexually assaulting a guy, becoming an illegal animagus, spying on everyone in the castle - stalking as well. What did this guy do to achieve such a level of popularity? Nothing he said was ever funny, either. All his good deeds were a product of his status and recklessness. Welcoming Sirius into his home - not a big deal, he's got all the space for many others. Becoming an animagus for Remus - well, it was illegal, but I suppose a nice gesture. Joining the Order - alright, Peter and Mundungus did that too, and? It only really accounts for his bravery and self-interest, doesn't it? I mean his wife was a muggleborn and he thrived on recklessness left and right. Not a big deal. But what else, really? What do you find so appealing as to suggest he is more sympathetic than Severus Snape - who actually had to struggle in life?

One thing the fandom does tht annoys the absolute crap out of me is making Dumbledore out to be this evil villain manipulating kids into fighting in a war and inturn being the cause of all their losses and resultant trauma. He did what he did in the circumstance of a war. And thts still saying something coz hp paints and incredibly black and white picture of war and good vs evil in general

Ofc he's not going to be completely morally right, but given tht the choices r risking losing the war or being morally wrong, u can see the obvious pick.

He didn't manipulate anyone into joining the war, the marauders and lily volunteered(and we hv no evidence of forced conscription in the wizarding world). It's a choice they made right after school and they deserve all the credit for it without reducing it to 'dumbledore raised a child army'. He even offered to be james's secret keeper, but james chose his friends instead, thts not on dumbledore. Seems lyk fandom has a real problem with grasping the concept of characters making their choices without being forced into it, whether good or bad. Even in Harry's era the kids called themselves 'dumbledore's army' and he had nothing to do with it, he even took the fall for their foolishness and saved them from being expelled.

Yes, he manipulated Snape into becoming a double agent early on (he wud hv protected the Potters anyways) but srsly, look at the choices in front of him, what is he supposed to prioritise? a) having a spy in voldemort's circle and gaining information tht cud save countless lives, b) sm death eater crying abt saving only the muggleborn he loves in exchange for her infant son. Also he might hv been manipulated in the very beginning, but adult Snape chose to continue in this role (as shown by the yule ball scene in the Prince's Tale), reducing tht to 'dumbledore manipulated poor, helpless uwu Snape' cheapens his redemption.

Now, with regards to raising Harry lyk a pig for slaughter....what other choice did he have? Smother baby Harry coz he was marked for death? It's definitely his least prettiest move, but what wud u choose btw saving the world and saving one kid? Also he hardly does it out of spite, he really did love Harry, which is y he doesn't tell him about the contents of the prophecy earlier.

Ultimately, he was a very flawed man, but he did what he had to do to win the war and 90% of the cast would be dead without him. He is a complex, flawed, and much more interesting character character without being reduced to evil incarnate, so y bother?

I just saw someone replying to a tik tok video saying that "ATYD is canon J.K.R authorized it to be published in a book", well my eyes are bleeding, do these supposed marauders fans want to open a Harry Potter book? I need to give a special thanks to the author of this fanfic for destroying the marauders for me.

I remember when I was younger how much I liked these characters, but now the fandom has distorted them to the point where they are unrecognizable, they carry nothing but the name of the books and finding a good characterization is like finding a needle in a haystack. See, there are almost no fanfics that don't bring Sirius/Remus together even when the author says he doesn't feel the romance vibe between the two. Are these writers scared of the increasingly creepy marauder fandom?

Sirius is a classist, arrogant asshole who's a Black through and through, even despite fighting on the right side and being sorted into Gryffindor. There is a reason he dueled Bellatrix in OoTP and has such a striking resemblance to her. His sadistic predatory streak, his dehumanization of the people he dislikes, his arrogance and haughty attitude towards everyone around him except the people he cares about the most. His dismissiveness towards those he deems as less smart than him. His obvious displays of power play with Peter and with his friends. He just needs to always feel like he is superior in some way. He is a hypocrite, and I believe that his main saving grace that allowed him to make semi-right decisions was James. James, despite also being a classist asshole, forced him to open his mind to muggleborns - mostly because he respected James. He respected him, therefore he reevaluted his beliefs. The fact he has a reckless and rebellious personality also led to his easy change of attitude, but if he didn't respect James, I do not believe he would develop that sort of sympathy. There is simply no way that someone like Sirius, who was raised in such a bigoted and strict family, would ever reevaluate his beliefs if it didn't serve him in some way. His only loyalty is to his loved ones and to his ego. I'm not saying he is evil and I do not hate him, I just dislike the notion that he is a good person, and I especially dislike the fandom's portrayal of him as this sympathetic guy who always tries his best or whatever. His famous quote about judging a person based on how he treats his inferiors is so ironic cuz look at how he treats those he deems as inferior (in power, smarts or class) and you just want to slap his hypocritical ass.

i was talking to a friend about this today and i, of course, am going to yap about it. because i've been incredibly vocal and it's pointed out a lot how annoying it is but,,,

discussions of jkr in the marauders fandom are ongoing, and they need to be. this is not a topic we visit once, it's a topic we need to continue discussing because it's constantly evolving.

when jkr first became public with her views, it was "boycott the studios, boycott the merch, don't interact", which was appropriate for the time of "this franchise is done, do not engage with what is already there"

when things like cursed child and hogwarts legacy come out, it's a different conversation. because we're not just discussing things with her name plastered on the front of, we're talking about her IP as a whole. as the franchise develops into other areas, we need to discuss how to navigate that. we have discussions about the contributions of others, on "supporting the theatre cast/developers, not her" and how that's still harmful. it's a different discussion.

and today, it's more important than ever. not just because trans rights are under violent attack, but because fandom is more mainstream. more people join who may not be aware and they need to be educated, and this increased traction contributes to complacency.

we need to discuss how blowing up random tiktokers comment section with "this is so james potter!!!" is harmful even when it seems like a bit of fun, because it normalises engagement with this media, and encourages people to join without education. how blowing up fancasts comment sections is harmful because then people get excited over the possibility of them joining the reboot, or even just the fact that a high-profile celebrity is now connected with this fandom, and if they don't speak up on it, engagement with jkr must be okay, right? whether you're speaking on it, commenting on it, or a reposting a tiktok, it's engagement.

because like it or not, being in this fandom and producing content for this fandom is a form of promotion, so what can we do to make sure that we are promoting the right things? that we are doing it ethically? that we are keeping people educated?

the changing face of the franchise, the changing face of trans rights, and the changing face of fandom spaces is why these discussions keep coming up. because newer fans need to be educated, and older fans need to stay updated as things change.

but the one constant, the one constant thing that i really want to emphasise here is that it has never been about shaming. or cancelling. or "ganging up" against people.

it's about human rights. it's about lives > content.

these discussions aren't had so that we can call people out - although, if you feel called out by such discussions, maybe that's a sign you need to do better - it's about education. a guiding hand. awareness.

we educate and we have these discussions because one person doesn't make a difference. one person not watching the reboot makes no difference, and realistically? a complete, total boycott of JKR will make no difference - trans people will be under attack either way.

but you don't need to change the world to change your corner of it. and you don't need to have global influence to have an influence - you may not make an individual difference to her income and influence by profiting her, but you make a difference to the people around you, the people in this space, when you openly do so. you don't need to change the world to show solidarity.

and that's why these discussions take place. and that's why they keep taking place.

because in the wider world? everything is shit. everything is fucking awful. trans people are fighting day by day to not off themselves, or be offed.

so, listen, because the way you shape your corner matters, and we should not have to fight to prove that us living authentically, and enjoying our time in this space, is more important than a remake.

so yes, these discussions might be annoying. you can reach out and complain in my dms as much as you want, you can leave comments on people's videos asking if it's that deep, and you can say you just want to enjoy your time without getting lectured.
