This is a wip for now, but I’m pretty happy about what I have produced in the time I did. The quality of my pictures are kinda garbage but I can’t figure out why. I have been on a fallout kick recently and wanted to draw Nick Valentine, one of my favorites and someone who despite his brain coming from a cop has a decent character build. Which obviously all cops are bastards, even the original Nick Valentine. They uphold the interests of the capital owners with violence against the workers and lower class. And we are starting to see the late stages of it already with cop cities being built so they can better use war tactics on citizens. This is what late stage capitalism has wet dreams about. I don’t know what options we have left some days and the further things progress the more worried I get.

September 2024 - Huge banners were dropped in New York City reading "F🔻CK YOU ADAMS", "NO COP CITY IN QUEENS", and "THIS MEANS WAR", against the plans of Democratic NYC Mayor (and ex-cop) Eric Adams to spend 225 million dollars on a new police training center in the city. I don’t want to hear anymore “how could they do this?? why does no one care??” because you guys didn’t care when it began, when it happened and as it’s happening right in front of you!! Where do you think Israel and most Western countries get their inspiration for colonialism and ethnic cleansing from?? Black people across the globe are still going through ethnic cleansing TODAY and have been since white colonialism touched Africa!! Thank u anon 💓. Su is a character whom I love dearly. I find her deeply fascinating and I think she should be discussed more in a nuanced light. I think she's a surprisingly complex and layered character for just being a side character. Though, I suppose Avatar is well known for its fleshed out casts. But Su in particular draws from so many interesting tropes, making them her own, as well as breaks several molds in fiction around women and motherhood, specifically.

My goal with trying to push back on the 'Suyin hate' in the fandom isn't exactly to have people believe she's flawless or to agree with her unanimously. I don't even agree with her all the time. But there is nuance and logic in her behaviour, at least from her perspective, with her priorities. Suyin isn't a malicious character, and acting as if she were one is a really huge blow to this very interesting character. And it's an example of how modern fandom has a tendency to rush to extremes, and despise nuance, or moral grayness, especially in female/feminine (particularly through characterisation and narrative) characters like Suyin.

And, for what it's worth, I actually find Lin genuinely interesting as well. I don't always agree with the writing decisions made around her, and wish she were developed more, but the potential was there. Underdeveloped potential is the name of the game in tlok lol.

But Lin is a fascinating character in how she is, similarly to Suyin, severely flawed. Not just because she can be, let's be honest, quite unpleasant to others, but because she's unpleasant to herself too. And not just in the noble, stoic, self sacrificing, silent sufferer way people portraty her as. Lin hurts herself because she stagnates, because she enclosed herself in a safe, but isolating bubble. Focusing on her job, pushing others away, clinging to past hurt and not moving forward with her life. That's Lin's safety bubble.

And the thing is, Lin is a grown woman. She has all the tools to leave that bubble. She just doesn't, because that would admit to being wrong, and it would open her up to vulnerability, which are two of Lin's biggest fears. Being wrong and being vulnerable, that's Lin's kryptonite.

That's why I think Lin's arc in Zaofu is my favourite, because it actively forced her to be vulnerable, to rethink her stance on life. It also actually gave us more pushback to Lin's actions, which I know rubbed some people the wrong way, but I think was very needed for Lin. Usually the only character who will actively oppose Lin will be Korra, and even she has a more passive approach to her.

I think my more snippy and annoyed demeanour when analyzing Lin comes from the fact that the fandom really does baby and woobify her. And while I love the widespread love for an older woman of colour with traits usually disliked in women, it does get under my skin. Because at this point it honestly doesn't even feel like Lin beifong half the time. Like who is this poor, helpless, wronged little doormat ya'll are describing?

I don’t currently watch metalocalypse nor do I ship these characters, but I wanted to create a silly shit post based on a reel I saw yesterday. Plus who doesn’t wanna babygirlify all men? I certainly do. Is the background once again just blurred photos? Yes, I’m lazy and not drawing a background for a shitpost. Plus the pose was trending or whatever so why not.

Anyways back on my crazy captioning because I will NOT stop yapping about rights and how much I hate capitalism and it’s many facets. I hope I’m not the only young person out here who feels so strongly about justice and yet feels like lost in it all? I am currently trying to not ruin all of the relationships I have built up because when my sense of justice is too strong I take everything way too seriously and end up being a dick. It’s hard because on one hand everything is crumbling around me because this country fucking sucks right now and I don’t fit into all the groups of rich, cis, straight, white, able bodied man; which means if things keep in this direction then I’m not on the list of people to not be pummeled to death. I just wanted to live and be able to build a productive life, but if we’re being real I’ve always had this cynicism towards the idea of the US being good as it’s never been good to me or anyone I know really. When living and not being a baby making machine with no rights is a luxury we are in sucky times headed for worst. I’m glad I could have the nuance to see that even the “good politicians” are just protecting the capital interests of the 1%, they set out the unjust law for the police to carry out, in which makes the police all bastards for knowingly and continuously carrying out law that is strictly for the benefit of the capital owner. The workers can’t even get their basic necessities, people have to choose between eating, shelter, and paying what they have to. Let alone the fact that my generation will not physically be able to pay rent let alone a mortgage or buy a house. There’s nowhere to go, I’m in insurmountable debt that I can’t pay for because some jackasses told me college was a good idea and I couldn’t even afford one fucking semester. Late stage capitalism can go fuck off because what does anyone expect me or anyone else to do? No one wants to hire people and the ones that do pay bare minimum wages. I just feel helpless in this hellscape our government has facilitated in growing. The two biggest candidates fucking suck, my vote feels pointless and useless, I don’t wanna choose between two fascists of different flavors. Anyways yapping over for now

First, police announced plans to build a $90 million "Cop City" police training megaplex on environmentally-sensitive grounds near Atlanta. Then, people understandably started protesting this bullshit. Then, police responded to those protests in a draconian manner, assaulting protestors, charging 42 of them (including a legal observer from the National Lawyers' Guild) with "terrorism," and murdering one of the protestors. Then, people running the Atlanta Solidarity Fund were bailing out the arrested protestors and hooking them up with lawyers. Then, the police sent a SWAT team to arrest the admins of the Solidarity Fund, charging them with "charity fraud" and "money laundering!" The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund, which operates in much the same way as the Atlanta Solidarty Fund, has kicked in to help defend the admins of that fund, who are presently out on bail and putting together their defense case. Helping them fight the charges they're facing for helping other activists fight their charges = helping the helpers!
