What I hated about the final two seasons
Be warned. There WILL be unpopular opinions in this one. This WILL get petty. And it WILL be mean. So tread carefully
Quinn. That woman should not have been directing a family musical.
Mack. Anyone who’s a threat to Ricky needs to leave
Dani. Too falsely perky. Like Audrey Rose
Redlyn breakup
The cheating plot point
The whole Adam Westing thing Bleu and Johnson had going on.
The fact that there was neither hide nor hair of Efron at all. Ricky could’ve used a pep talk from him. Seeing as he’s played Troy twice. He deserved it.
Ej’s Mirror!Spock facial hair. It never suited him
The constantly poorly thought out parallels.
The overly glorified depiction of Chad Danforth. He was not a The. He was just a supporting character. And not a very good one at that.
Ricky crying. He’s my favourite character. He should never be sad.
Terri Porter. Like. I get that she just wants what’s best for Gina. But she’s very, I dunno, smug about it. Especially when it came to Mack vs Ricky.
The lack of Ryan/Grabeel after the season four premiere
The lack of Big Red and Seb.
Principal Gutierrez. Although I think that was supposed to be the intended effect.
Jarred Pumpkinhead. Enough said.
Dewey Wood. Jackson Stewart I like. Dewey Wood I do not.
No Val in season four.
No last names for Maddox, Jet or Emmy
Lily and Antonine. I still hate them.
The film that Seb and Big Red watched. Couldn’t it have been Brokeback Mountain or something to that effect?
Ricky’s parents. Although I highly doubt that anyone’s going to be surprised by that.
The lack of hip movement during Ricky’s “pants are too tight” line in night to remember
Natalie Bagley only returning for a single episode
The fact that the final two seasons were only eight episodes each.
The implication that absolutely NONE of the theatre club seems to know what Romeo and Juliet is.
The constant lack of sympathy Ricky gets. He was never at fault for anything that happened from his parents splitting up to how Nini treated him. And it’s such a bloody shame that the show never seemed to want to acknowledge that
I understand that it was necessary. But I still kinda wish that Ricky and Gina weren’t a secret for most of the final season you know?
The fact that we only ever saw one rina date.
The fact that season four was the end of such a great show.
There’s probably more but that’s all I can think of right now. Tell me what you think?

Every so often I'll just be living my life and randomly remember that "I Don't Dance" exists. The song that has lines like "I don't dance/there's just one little thing that stops me every time," "slide home, you score, swingin' on the dance floor," "you better sping that pitch you're gonna throw me," and "I can prove it to you 'til you know it's true/I can swing it, I can bring it to the diamond too." (And Chad and Ryan have better musical chemistry than Troy and Gabriella ever had, argue with the wall.) And then Chad and Ryan SWITCH CLOTHES AFTER SINGING THIS SONG TOGETHER.
And Disney is trying to tell me that anyone other than Ryan Evans was Disney's first gay character? The only reason that's true is because they were cowards back in 2007 and literally nothing else.

Also the part where Gabriella and the bff are talking and the bff brings up the boy rules.....😣😒 Like understanding the late, but I'd say give them a few freebies cause weird shit happens all the time when you're trying to be on time. Don't get me started on the "it's always an official date, whether the boy knows it or not" like boys think differently!! It's just best to lay things out like hey it's a date, or hey it's SO time but if something big comes up it's cool to miss if told
That scene is equally aggravating. Taylor’s distaste for and mistrust of Troy is never elaborated on. She has no justification that the viewer can see for her attempts to vilify him, seemingly no motivation beyond the first movie, where her demonization stemmed from a desire to get Gabriella to back out of the callbacks and participate in the Scholastic Decathlon, and never apologizes to Troy for repeatedly tainting Gabriella’s (already unfairly skewed) perception of him. Her insistence that it’s “always an official date, whether the boy knows it, or not”, suggests an unrealistically high bar for any guy to meet, and talking about boys as though they have a “disease” caused by their gender, gives off the impression that Taylor thinks lowly of men, in general, which isn’t a good look on anyone.
Chad is also shown berating the female mind as “frightening territory”, in the first movie, so perhaps their mutual distaste for the workings of the opposite sex is another factor that drove Chad and Taylor into each other’s arms.
Regardless, Gabriella’s best friend consistently driving home the point that Troy isn’t worthy of Gabriella, while Troy’s best friend commends Gabriella for being “one step ahead, as usual”, when she dumps Troy over the phone two days before the prom, is yet another glaring example of the ever-exasperating, transparent Pro-Gabriella bias on the part of Peter Barsocchini.

I accidentally boarded the Nick/Conrad train, so here, have a headcanon.
--
Conrad is always tired and cold. 75% of his time at Nick's is him sleeping in Nick's bed, under three layers of blankets and a hot waterbottle that Nick provides.
It turns out Conrad that has Low Iron Anemia.
Ryan is the first to notice that something isn't quite right with the boy and goes to WebMD to search up his symptoms. When he discovers that Conrad's symptoms align with the common ones for Anemia, Ryan books him into see the family doctor and tells Nick. Nick decides not to tell Conrad, and instead pretends they're going to the store for snacks, because he knows Conrad would run at the first mention of doctor.
As Dr. Merriweather conducts his routine checks, Conrad attempts to inflict psychic damage via insults and jibes at the doctor's expense. On the surface, he's just being a cocky brat, a foul-mouthed teenager with an attitude problem, but Nick stands next to the examination table and Contad has his hand in a white-knuckled vice grip.
And it turns out that Conrad's mom was an anti-vaxxer, which means he has none of his vaccinations. Chad and Ryan decide to they need to correct that, right now.
Which means more trips to Dr. Merriweather for Conrad, which makes this grumpy boy a very very grumpy boy.
But as much as he protests, he accepts that the Danforth-Evans just want what's best for him and are shelling out for him, so he grumbles but lets Dr. Merriweather jab and stab him as much as he needs to, just as long as Nick holds his hand while it's happening.
And he starts taking iron supplements and what do you know, our boy starts to get some of his colour back. He no longer looks drained and tired all the time and he actually manages to stays awake through an entire band practice for once.
Julie and the boys are all shocked.
"I thought that was just how you looked," Julie comments.
"Yeah, like a corpse who just woke up from a fifty-year nap," Luke adds.
Conrad scowls. "Fuck off, Patterson."
The fact that he doesn't sleep so much when he's with Nick means that he gets to experience more of the Danforth-Evan's household. He sits with Nick on the sofa and watches Ryan and Nick's little sister put together a dance routine in the living room.
His smile is small and shy from disuse, but it forms slowly on his lips.

summer films ‘18
hi there! to clarify, this is a log of films i’ve seen this summer, not exactly films set in the summer, so if you’re here for that, i’m sorry?
anyway, here we go!
1. kasal (2018) / dir. ruel s. bayani ♡ 180525 ♡ girl is engaged to the son of cebu’s current mayor who is currently preparing for elections, but her ex comes back and tries to win her back ♡ cliche, i know, but trust me, this movie deals with this plotline in a very interesting way ♡ and come on, it’s bea alonzo and paulo avelino, two icons 2. high school musical (2006) / dir. kenny ortega ♡ 180614 ♡ iconic, i love troy bolton, thanks for reminding me ♡ i know sharpay isn’t that bad but she’s still a bully lol ♡ the choreography for when there was me and you got me dying i love it ♡ fave song: stick to the status quo 3. high school musical 2 (2007) / dir. kenny ortega ♡ 180622 ♡ my least favorite in the trilogy ♡ there was so much unnecessary drama they should’ve cut troy some slack ♡ i hate chad danforth, that’s all ♡ fave song: you are the music in me 4. high school musical 3: senior year (2008) / dir. kenny ortega ♡ 180622 ♡ my favorite in the trilogy! ♡ i still hate chad tho lol but i love taylor so much she’s my favorite character! ♡ i wish they elaborated more on gabriella though, because i like to imagine an alternate ending where she declines stanford and stays in albuquerque for another year which disappoints everyone and puts a strain on her relationship with troy. that would’ve been so interesting! ♡ fave song: i love all of them, but if i had to choose, the boys are back 5. kimmy dora 2: the temple of kiyeme (2009) / dir. joyce bernal ♡ 180626 ♡ the only reason i watched this was because i had a terrible pimple on my forehead and it reminded me of some horror movie then i realized it was this so i had to look for the particular scene ♡ the movie was really bad, as expected ♡ but i absolutely love eugene domingo!! she’s so talented i really admire her as an actress
6. before sunrise (1995) / dir. richard linklater ♡ 180630 ♡ this was the day my internet ultimately stopped working (for four days, if i may add) so i thought hey why not start that movie marathon i’ve been meaning to do ♡ i was excited to watch this because it’s a known pop culture reference, and also because it’s seulgi’s favorite movie ♡ it’s unique! it’s not easy to film a story that revolves around two people who’ve just met walking around in a city neither of them knows ♡ i liked this movie but it wasn’t that spectacular or anything, i think it lacks emotion and excitement ♡ but please, do not get off a train in europe with someone you’ve just met that is dangerous
7. before sunset (2004) / dir. richard linklater ♡ 180630 ♡ i knew nothing about this so i was actually surprised to see the same actors nine years after before sunrise’s release ♡ i like this better than the first one! céline shows the emotions i was looking for ♡ it’s much simpler and easier to follow because it really is just them walking around and talking to continue the story because of the short amount of time they have together
8. before midnight (2013) / dir. richard linklater ♡ 180630 ♡ this movie is the reason i watched the series! it was mentioned in it’s okay, that’s love so i thought i needed to watch this, and honestly, it helped me understand the characters from iotl a bit better! ♡ it ended up being my favorite film of the three ♡ it’s more complex than the first two because it introduces more characters and is set in more locations ♡ after years of watching and reading romcoms, this made me believe in love
9. gone girl (2014) / dir. david fincher ♡ 180701 ♡ i knew nothing about this film except that there was a girl and she was missing and the plot is unexpected? ♡ i won’t say much on this because it’s amazing when you watch it without knowing anything ♡ but it is CRAZY it hecked me up so much wow ♡ will try reading the book when i can!! 10. the grand budapest hotel (2014) / dir. wes anderson ♡ 180701 ♡ my first wes anderson film (finally) ♡ bored me at first because sadly, i can’t relate to rich european men who live in hotels and have sex with elderly women ♡ but it is so much more than that! it’s funny and deals with loyalty, the war, and crap immigrants go through ♡ yes, the cinematography is unique and beautiful, but i couldn’t appreciate it much from years of seeing wes anderson stills on my social media ♡ i went into this without knowing anything about it, but i wish i’d watched the trailer beforehand because that would’ve helped me appreciate it more 11. the fault in our stars (2014) / dir. josh boone ♡ 180702 ♡ i was bored and looking through my sister’s hard drive and i thought hey why not watch sad western teen books-turned-movies i used to glorify years ago ♡ it was alright but knowing every line, song, facial expression that would come next made it worse ♡ john green’s cameo is so awkward it’s almost funny ♡ i hope i never meet an augustus waters in my life 12. if i stay (2014) / dir. r.j. cutler ♡ 180703 ♡ part 2 of sad western teen books-turned-movies i used to glorify ♡ the story is pretty good but the film itself isn’t as good as i remembered ♡ i’m still so in love with jamie blackley after four years he’s so handsome and his voice is beautiful ♡ chloe moretz’s acting is really awkward though it’s almost painful to watch ♡ it made me want to reread the sequel where she went though! 13. she’s dating the gangster (2014) / dir. cathy garcia-molina ♡ 180705 ♡ i started this with an open mind and some expectations because although i hated on it for no reason years ago, i wanted to give it a chance ♡ but i’m sorry it really is bad ♡ kenji delos reyes is manipulative and selfish i hope i never meet a guy like him 14. grave of the fireflies (1988) / dir. isao takahata ♡ 180706 ♡ two siblings in the middle of a war ♡ watched this because a friend wanted to rabbit with me! ♡ i haven’t seen a ghibli film in a while so this was refreshing ♡ really sad though :( 15. 10 things i hate about you (1999) / dir. gil hunger ♡ 180706 ♡ guy is paid to date girl lol ♡ julia stiles is so beautiful :( i love her ♡ pretty funny actually! ♡ also watched this because friends wanted to rabbit with me :> 16. i’m drunk, i love you (2017) / dir. jp habac ♡ 180707 ♡ i finally, finally watched this ♡ not gonna lie it disappointed me? so many people loved it but for me it was eh ♡ paulo avelino’s character was pretty lacking for me, i wish they’d elaborated more on him ♡ but i liked the group dynamic because they’re not the wholesome, fake happy kind of friends, seeing them interact made me feel like they’re people i really know in real life (which made me miss my own friends) ♡ even jasmine’s character felt real because she’s probably someone i’d know HAHA ♡ fun fact: i’ve listened to the song lloydy long before watching this because i mean? a song about john lloyd? sign me up 17. that thing called tadhana (2014) / dir. antoinette jadaone ♡ 180708 ♡ another film i finally watched after multiple pop culture references ♡ i actually kinda liked it! it literally has a spiel about john lloyd of course i do but it gets better when the main characters become comfortable with each other ♡ i find it interesting that the director also directed love you to the stars and back which is another film that revolves around two people, both dealing with stuff, who’d just met and decide to go on a journey together ♡ the characters also feel pretty realistic/relatable once you get to know them 18. the spectacular now (2013) / dir. james ponsoldt ♡ 180709 ♡ part 3 of sad western teen books-turned-movies i used to glorify ♡ the only reason i rewatched this was because it was the shortest of the films i had at the time and i needed something to pass the time while loading episodes of svt club ♡ i mean it’s okay? not bad not good and i don’t even like miles teller ♡ shailene woodley perfectly plays the part of the awkward oblivious girl (and that’s not a compliment) 19. the breakup playlist (2015) / dir. dan villegas ♡ 180716 ♡ this film was so refreshing to watch?? sarah portrayed a youthful musician just starting out so so well i love her so much what a great first sarah g movie for me ♡ piolo made me fall in love with him and later on hate him, as he should ♡ i love opm kaya seeing the gig scene, some actual artists like ebe dancel, and looots of covers of songs like wag na wag mong sasabihin by kitchie nadal and with a smile by eraserheads ♡ i understand now why people love paano bang magmahal HAHAHA 20. barcelona: a love untold (2016) / dir. olivia lamasan ♡ 180717 ♡ alright so remember how i absolutely hated sdtg? ♡ I LOVED THIS FILM SO. MUCH. ♡ kathniel matured a lot in two years and i think they were perfect for this!! they really showed certain struggles of young adults and did not disappoint ♡ it also shows filipino values for family, utang ng loob, ofw struggles, etc ♡ and of course the cinematography is beautiful HUHU i mean it’s barcelona!! 21. my annoying brother (2016) / dir. kwon soo-kyung ♡ 180721 ♡ honestly took me a bit to get into it ♡ i expected it to be funny and although it did make me laugh a lot why were there tears :((( ♡ kyungsoo is so, so, so talented i admire him so much as an actor now ♡ really hits you in the feels! a really beautiful story about two brothers 22. so i married an anti-fan (2016) / dir. kim jae-young ♡ 180724 ♡ meh ♡ it took some getting used to seeing chanyeol being all snobbish and cool instead of his usual loud happy self ♡ of course it’s overdramatic for the comedy, but the hate-turned-love isn’t even that good lol it’s just unreasonable but whatever ♡ the lead girl reminds me of arci munoz HAHA 23. wonder (2017) / dir. stephen chbosky ♡ 180725 ♡ we watched this during my summer program and i was actually pretty excited because i remember loving the book! ♡ this honestly teaches you a lot not even just from the perspective of children but also as teenagers, parents, friends, etc ♡ i thoroughly enjoyed it!

Bal vs Troyella. Bal wins
Blame. More specifically the way the deal with blame. Troy is manipulated throughout most of the movies. Never by Gabriella, though her reactions don’t do much to endear me to her in hindsight. First film. The basketball team, led by that ray bastard Chad sodding Danforth, interferes to stop him being in the drama club. Second film. Sharpay, his boss at the time, outright stalks him and everybody blames him for it.
Then AGAIN in film three Sharpay manipulates the situation again and somehow it’s still Troy’s fault or at least that’s how he’s made to feel by the narrative. In the first two Gabriella makes it all Troy’s fault when the worst thing he does is. A. Be a people pleaser. B. Follow the will of the purple who sign his pay check. In the third Sharpay gets no direct repercussions for yet again interfering in Troy’s life for her own sadistic pleasure and he’s made to apologise when he’s done nothing wrong
Throughout the films when ever something goes up shits creek without a paddle he gets blamed for it. Especially where Gabriella is concerned. He always has to apologise for things out of his control. Yeah I know troyella is “iconic” but I just can’t get past the fact that everyone including Gabriella uses the poor sod as a scapegoat. I don’t blame her for having trust issues because of the whole constantly moving thing. But the more I think about it the more it annoys me. It’s also sort of why I ship him with Ryan because he’s the only one who never blamed Troy for anything
Then take descendants. Mal has done a lot of fucked up shit in her time. But she takes responsibility. And where Ben’s concerned she NEVER EVER blames him for anything. She never blames anyone for anything really. Hell. Even when Evie tried to take responsibility in d2 Mal stopped her and pinned the blame on herself. When something goes wrong because of her she never makes others take the fall. Especially where Ben’s concerned. She takes responsibility in her own way for the potion, attempted amnesia and the isle closure. She makes a helluva lot of stupid choices but she takes the blame for it each time. Especially where Ben’s concerned.
So that’s why I prefer bal over troyella. And for purposes of tagging I shan’t be putting “anti Gabriella” in there. Just the usual two suspects seeing as it isn’t negative to her. Just how Troy was treated. This was just a vent piece so please no hate in the notes

You know what?
Out of the many things they’ve gotten right so far. I’m thankful that Nick isn’t called Chad. If he was then I’d have no choice except to hate him on principle and not give a shit Caleb possessed him. Like I’ve hated Danforth and Charming. They’re just something so overtly annoying about the latter two. Tendency toward manipulation and general idiocy aside. It’s not an actor thing. I liked Corbin in jump in and Hannah Montana. But when it comes to Danforth I wa ba make him watch as I put his coveted basketball through a wood chipper. As for Charming. I’ll never forgive him for how he treated Evie. No amount of sycophantic behaviour towards pastel bitch will change my mind. I hate both Danforth and Charming. So I’m very happy with the fact Nick isn’t called “chad”. It’s just such a refreshing change of pace.

Why CDC is the best Disney Chad
Now as you’ll all know. I have a vendetta against Chad Danforth and Chad Charming. But I quite like Chad Dylan Cooper. And that’s because he gets consequences for what he does. Chad loses sonny in the end because of his own stupidity. Towards the end both Mackenzie Falls and So Random were up for the same award. And So Random won. Chad being Chad kicked up a stink because of the comedy ghetto trope. And “fixed it” by managing to get a recount done. And it turns out Mackenzie Falls was the real winner. Sonny breaks up with him because he went behind her back and took away something that was important to her and her friends because of his own pathetic pride. And you know what’s really nice about that? They stay broken up. There’s no last minute forgiveness and happy ending for channy. And it’s GRADY MITCHELL who gets the implied love interest ending. The chubby comic relief gets the hinted romantic interest. Of course the show got cancelled because Demi lovato left for personal reasons. And sterling knight joined the cast in the retooled third and final season which was titled So Random. But aside from that. Chad Dylan Cooper lost the girl because he couldn’t handle being in second place to her. And I think that’s great. But Danforth and Charming don’t get any repercussions at all. Which is honestly a shame since the channels supposed to give kids easily shown lessons.

It’s just not my favourite theory
I know most of the fandom want Nick to be Ryan and ch*d’s son. But I can’t see it. It’s a timeline issue. As well as a personal preference issue. The first hsm was set in 2006 when the students were 16. Assuming the Los Feliz kids (I thing that’s the schools name) are all 16 in season one. That puts their birthdate at 2004. So timeline wise it doesn’t make sense to me that either of them would adopt a kid so soon out of high school let alone from a whole other state. New Mexico vs California people. And I’m not sure many legal agencies would let people adopt so young. The logic just doesn’t add up for me. Then there’s the personal preference issue which people are probably gonna hate me for but I don’t care
I hate him. I do. I legitimately hate Chad Danforth. He’s a terrible friend to Troy. He’s manipulative. And he’s just a jerk in general. I hate chyan as well. Ryan deserves better (coughtroycough). So I, personally, don’t like the Danforth Evans fan theory. It just doesn’t do anything for me. Honestly. I want Nick to be Reggie’s nephew via Idina Menzel and Josh Dallas really. Just think of the angst potential. Reggie’s nephew being possessed by the psycho who almost rekilled him. It’d be amazing. If people really want him to be related to a hsm character. He could be a Bolton cousin. That could work right?
That’s my opinion on this particular theory. I respect those that have the theory. But if it turns canon. I probably won’t be happy. That’s what my headcanons are for after all. I understand that many people won’t like this post. But I had to get this out of my head

Debunking A Common Mischaracterization
I’m a bit late to the ballgame on this one, but it’s high time someone laid this frustrating mess of a mischaracterization with absolutely no basis in canon, at all, to rest.
In recent years, I’ve noticed a trend amongst the High School Musical fandom. It’s present in one of the most popular posts involving this series that I’ve seen circulating this website. You know the one- it slams Troy for getting jealous over Ryan’s coziness with Gabriella, and, somehow, remaining ignorant to the “fact” that Ryan was totes having mad-crazy gay sex with his best friend.
It crops up in fanfiction, with fanfiction summaries stating that “Troy is oblivious, as always”.
This trend is the widespread belief that Troy Bolton, the central protagonist of the original trilogy is, to loosely paraphrase, a “dense idiot who is oblivious to everything going on around him”.
As the staunch Troy Bolton defender I am, I have to point out how immediately and glaringly wrong this characterization is.
Troy is the victim of frequent emotional manipulation by his peers (I believe they call this “peer pressure”) and surrounding authority figures. The opinions of other people- Gabriella, Chad, his father, his friends- matter quite a great deal to him. So much, in fact, that he is willing to throw an opportunity for a scholarship out the window because he is, in his own words, “more interested in what [his] friends think of [him]”.
One pointed look is often enough for Troy to cave in and make whatever promise is expected of him, or do whatever is being asked of him, regardless of his personal feelings on the matter.
He is a textbook people pleaser.
This would mean that he is not only highly attuned to the emotional states of others, he is especially adept at reading people to ensure that he isn’t disappointing or upsetting them. Thus, Troy is extremely susceptible to guilt trips, a harsh tone of voice, silent treatments, a scowl, even a mere arching of an eyebrow.
After all, manipulators only use emotional manipulation as a tactic when it works, and a sensitive person with a propensity for people pleasing would be a prime target.
So, no, it isn’t that Troy is an unbelievably imperceptive lunkhead. It’s that he’s far too perceptive and invested when it comes to the feelings of others, the language they use when addressing him, and the intonations and expressions backing this language, which unfortunately enables him to taken advantage of by unsavory people with ulterior motives. And, as always, I don’t believe that he deserves to be crucified for this.
Don’t hate the victim. Hate the perpetrator. Or, in this case, perpetrators.
If you need further proof that Troy is skilled at reading others, his own best friend, even while confronting Troy in an envy-fueled rage, declares, “We didn’t vote you captain of the team because of your jump shot. We did it because you’re the guy who usually knows what’s up.”
Taylor, as well, informs Gabriella that she was aware of Troy’s susceptibility to emotional manipulation; “We knew that Chad could get Troy to say things to make you want to forget about the callbacks.”
