You guys I'm actually crying over chapter 204.5 (which is technically an ad for a certain company we're all boycotting btw) but ignoring the actual ad THE STORYLINE WAS SO??? GOOD???? the Natsu characterization in this was INCREDIBLE (be prepared for intense 100yq hatred) and it portrayed exactly why I fell in love with nalu in the first place....
Summary and analysis below (doesn't incl all the pages btw!!)
Tumblr media
We start off with Lucy finding Natsu and Happy at her place, as always.
Tumblr media
this is followed by him being like "do you think we'll peek or something" which... 100yq natsu would have... that IMPOSTER...
Anyways while she's taking a bath, Natsu and Happy are browsing around Lucy's room and find a book that stands out. (Btw right next to this book is her diary, 100yq natsu would've gone straight for that). However they end up accidentally destroying it and start panicking. They ask Lucy if they can "borrow it" and Lucy panics at first, saying it's precious and not to touch it, but relents when they say they found it "interesting".
Tumblr media
fast forward, we see them worn out after trying and failing to find a replacement copy. ONCE AGAIN, they're doing this because it's something precious to LUCY. Not because they care about reading, or because the book has any value to them, but because they understand it's important to HER. Natsu (and Happy) going the extra mile for things that are important to Lucy is SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART of their entire dynamic.
continuing, Lucy walks into the guild and asks how they're finding the book, they say it's interesting. Lucy gets SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS and starts talking non stop ab the book. Happy asks her why this book is so important to her and...
Tumblr media
Y I K E S.
So yeah, they ultimately decide that lying isn't it and they should apologize upfront.
Tumblr media
this is so beautiful to me, idk like the imagery of them bowing so sincerely is so.... and like wow MASHIMA seems like natsu IS capable of acknowledging his own wrongdoings and offering genuine apologies. I'm not even talking ab the whole post tartaros situation no, I'm talking about fucking 100yq, where natsu actually physically hurts Lucy and doesn't apologize for it (AND IN FACT ITS PLAYED FOR A GAG)(IMPOSTER!!! NOT MY NATSU!!!)
Soooo Lucy doesn't take it well and runs away.
Tumblr media
the fact that they didn't stop their search here. the fact that they EXPANDED it to other towns to try and find her the book THIS IS JUST <3333
Anyways, Lucy returns and reveals dozens of copies of the book...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My heart actually broke for her here because as someone who ig creates stuff as well, it really can be painful to have no audience interaction. And to have a book you wrote bomb like that...ouch... and of course she would've been excited, her best friends told her they found it interesting!!! my HEART. OUCH. and the sheer guilt on Natsu and Happy's faces here 😭 Once again, 100yq would've played this off for a gag...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And they all start bawling (and the ad comes in so I will stop there) but YEAH. THIS WAS SO BEAUTIFUL??? The way she's regretful too, the way they're still trying to apologize and make her feel better I'm :(. This is what makes nalu work and it feels like mashima is forgetting that ab his own work... they're both genuinely good and kind to each other... like not to get sidetracked but there has always been goofy fanservice moments but there were also so many wonderful, emotional, complex scenes with them with depth and maturity and I just feel like that's lacking now. So reading this was like getting punched in the face srsly because wow... THIS is the natsu I know and love ugh .....

Warning: 100YQ-negative post (it's fine if you like it but I'm critical of it)
This latest chapter of 100YQ, for me, really just serves as another instance of fan indulgence serving as a counterpoint to fan betrayal with this Fairy Tail spinoff, wherein each chapter is just one or a series of coin flips between the two.
Idk but when nalu's been transformed into an entirely different relationship than the one I got to know in the original series, these toasty Jerza/Jellal nuggets (and even world-building nuggets, with the wizard school!) just are NOT hitting the way they could be, for me. I appreciate them and think they're interesting, but when Natsu's this flanderized, when he's lost this much depth & growth as a character...the story has also lost trust with me.
I'm not thinking "wow, that's so cool Mashima shared this lore with us!" but "huh, so that's what they spontaneously came up with to generate material for 100yq." It feels less like consistent, passionate storytelling (even of the indulgent variety) than it does a manga generator meant to keep revenue alive rather than the story itself.
And I'm grateful to it both because I love fairy tail enough to take even scraps and love that it's keeping the fandom alive but idk, it's hard not to feel somewhat let down...

Sorry to flame 100yq on main but just caught all the way up and omgggg what ever is even going on in this manga??? It's always the same:
Absolute rando villain with who looks like he walked straight out of a completely different manga (...and I'm saying this about FAIRY TAIL): *swaggers in waving his singular (one, total) character trait as obnoxiously as possible in everyone's face, especially Team Natsu's for no reason*
100YQ!Natsu: *picks a fight with the villain that still manages to feel out-of-pocket and out-of-character anyways*
Gray and Lucy: *do nothing but take turns providing on-the-nose commentary while wearing Shocked Pikachu face*
Rando Villain: *breaks some fundamental rule about magic which renders Natsu's strength not even outmatched so much as irrelevant, which is presumably just some kind of smug flex because they always just saunter off after this*

as a fan of fairy tail am i the only one that can't continue to watch it because of all the gruvia/juvia scenes?
I really relate to you, my friend. During my last rewatch of Fairy Tail, I actually had to skip through most of her scenes; they were that painful. I skipped her entire introduction fight against Gray in the Phantom Lord arc. I watched enough of her to remind myself of my eternally burning hatred for her and her ship though.
I totally feel you though: I don't think I'll watch FT 100YQ when it comes to anime form because the rampant, blatant, canon gr///via would completely ruin it for me. There would be no escaping it unlike with the first iteration of Fairy Tail.
And I don't think you and I are being overdramatic, as some Pros might say. Do they really want to shame us for being completely disturbed and unamused by a toxic, unhealthy yet heavily lauded and promoted ship? If they want to, that's their prerogative. But it's honestly draining of your mental health to have your eyeballs bombarded by a ship where an abusive woman finally chained up her browbeaten, manipulated, gaslit, Stockholm Syndrome-d victim.

Anyone else miss when Fairytail used to take it self seriously? Back in the early manga days, Mashima went absolutely hard on the world building. Establishing rules and keeping power scaling consistent somewhat; even having darker themes to the show. Characters had more emotional weight to them, with them actually taking each other seriously.
Tumblr media
This moment, there’s no tears involved but you can tell how much impact it has on the characters. Especially Gray. Natsu doesn’t kick Gray to the side and takeover the fight in a comedic way, in fact he even tells Gray to use the spell if he wants to. He’s not smiling, there’s no exaggerated goofy expressions. Instead his expression is the focal point of the panel, we see the conviction in his eyes. That he means what he says, he doesn’t want his rival at the time, Gray to die. Yet in this moment, he turns away entrusting Gray with the choice. But this time he’s reminded that there are people who will be affected by his decision to use the spell or not. Without the use of any tears, we can feel how hard this moment hits for Gray. Someone who has felt like he never deserved to live in this world. The arc take itself seriously and we see Gray remember Natsu’s words. They hold value to him and he chooses to fight for himself as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In these panels, we focus on his expression. There’s real stakes in these fights and this was back when there was no healer too. We get to see real wounds and what happens when wizards take on more than they should. They get hurt. We even see this in the first trip Natsu and Lucy go on together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see the guildmembers lives are taken seriously, that there is real consequences to them going on jobs. That being a wizard is dangerous, theres so much camaraderie and emotion shown in the early manga we really get a feel for just how much of a family Fairytail is to each other. They’ll even scale a snowy mountain littered with monsters just for the slim chance to drag them back to magnolia town. Betraying their pride to admit to their rivals they care. Aka Natsu and Gray. But you know what was great about it? It wasn’t all dark Fairytail knew when to be funny too, there was many light moments. Fairytail has always been fun goofy adventures but it knew when to take itself seriously.
Then we have 100yq…
Tumblr media
This is supposed to be a serious moment. Lucy was literally burnt. Natsu’s arm is torn to shreds, we see his eyes wide and sweat trailing down his skin. This is obviously not a comedic moment. So tell me why… instead of getting to focus on the characters feelings and how this may affect them. We get this…
Tumblr media
There is no detail to the expressions, their very simplified and cartoony. And we also have, Lucy being treated as fanservice… again. But the worst part about it is this is so out of character for Natsu. The way he looks at Lucy here, its as if she’s a bother to him. He completely disrespects her and downright sexually assaults her. They dumbed his character down to… this. This is the same Natsu that shed tears at the idea of Gray dying for his sake, the same Natsu whos blood boiled to see Erza scared, the same Natsu who took on an entire guild because of the unfair treatment to Yukino.
Yet he can’t even treat Lucy fairly here. This is something the old Natsu would not do, it’s so out of character. And Lucy is out of character here too, the old Lucy would’ve punched him square in the jaw for trying this.
In fact in the past she even threatened to leave the team because she thought he was only having her on the team for her blonde hair.
Lucy isn’t afraid to hold him accountable and we see Natsu reassure her feelings and take them seriously.
Tumblr media
If this was 100yq her feelings wouldn’t have been taken seriously. They would’ve been played as a joke, they would’ve said something like. “What do you mean it could’ve been anybody? You’re the only girl in the guild with blonde hair, I doubt Laxus would wanna do the job.”
But Natsu didn’t say something like that, we see Lucy’s conflicted expression at knowing he chose her because of her personality. And we’re shown that her feelings here are serious. Whereas in 100yq we don’t even get to see her face/reaction to his careless disregard of her burns. All we see is the side of her face, all the focus is on her chest for the joke.
Bonus Last point. This here is an exact example of what I mean. The serious weight of this situation we get to see clearly. Their expressions are the focal point, were shown this is a moment with weight to its whereas in 100yq the panels focus is on Lucy’s chest. We were robbed.

In the original series, Gray repeatedly rejects Juvia's advances and shows little interest in pursuing a romantic relationship with her. However, in the sequel series 100 Years Quest, Gray suddenly does a complete turnaround and is now portrayed as being romantically interested in Juvia, which is a significant departure from his previous behavior and characterization.
Gray's portrayal in 100 Years Quest is vastly different from his original characterization. In the original series, he was depicted as a cool, reserved, and independent character who showed little interest in romantic relationships, particularly with Juvia. However, in the sequel series, Gray's personality and behavior do a complete 180 in relation to Juvia. He suddenly becomes a sappy, goo-eyed individual who is overly concerned with her happiness and safety, abandoning his previous traits.

100YQ Rant/Criticism
SPOILERS FOR FT 100YQ INCLUDED
I have been following FT 100YQ and have seen a lot of moments that just made me go ‘hmm okay, doesn’t make sense but alright’, and there have been a lot of moments of just the plot/narrative being broken for convenience sake. It has gotten under my skin many times, but as a Jellal fan, one of the biggest offenses and one that makes me scratch my head a lot is from chapter 144.  Don't read ahead if you don't want to be spoiled about a big reveal on his character or on 100YQ.
144 : Beyond Sins.
Tumblr media
Now initially when this chapter came out, I really loved it since it was the first time we had a backstory in ages and it being Jellal’s, I ate it all up.
But there was something in this chapter that made absolutely no sense narrative wise when I looked back with fresh eyes and wasn’t riding the high of getting Jellal’s backstory/anything Jellal related.
That being.
Tumblr media
This panel.
We’re told not even a page into the chapter, Jellal’s real name is ‘Siegrain’, a name which we know from the previous narrative and was hinted throughout arcs to be like an alter persona for Jellal.
Tumblr media
This chapter goes on to basically confirm that Jellal canonically has DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), a trauma response that must have manifested given all the stress and changes that happened in his life from losing his father young, watching his mother die by the slavers and then being taken into slavery, having his whole trajectory he planned for his life ruined etc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is an understandable trauma response, and I would love to have seen it properly explored with understanding in regards to Jellal/Sieg’s character. It would have been so interesting to see how Jellal’s trauma at the tower manifested in a split personality and how he coped with the situation as he was cited to be notably different to all those around him
‘A Leader’
‘One who doesn’t cry’
‘The strong boy’.
This chapter basically confirms that this character he created was a way to mask his own insecurities and cope in the unknown environment.
However, that’s not where my gripe is.
Because as much as I was interested in the idea of Jellal’s trauma manifesting as DID, it’s the way that the narrative has gone about it which butchers everything else and makes no sense in a narration sense.
The man who we are told his name has always been ‘Jellal’ is now revealed to us by this flashback chapter to have actually had the name ‘Siegrain’ as his birth name.
This on it’s own is boggling but wouldn’t have caused such breaks in the narrative, but the fact that this very chapter contradicts a chapter in a previous arc with Jellal in the Gears fight, this is where it just stops making sense.
Tumblr media
In order to beat Gears in chapter 57, Jellal takes out ‘Siegrain’, the man whom he claims is the carrier of his sins, which in accordance to other arcs of Fairy Tail makes sense since we see the Siegrain persona being the most active in regards to infiltrating the magic council, getting the etherion fired etc.
But now we have in not even 100 chapters after this, it’s revealed to us that Jellal’s name isn’t Jellal at all, but ‘Siegrain’. How can Siegrain be the one carrying Jellal’s sins, when Siegrain is the main identity/person  that Jellal was created from?
It just doesn’t add up.
And if that isn’t narrative breaking enough, Jellal’s name actually being ‘Siegrain’ causes a whole other narrative hole too.
Tumblr media
This guy.
Mystogan.
Mystogan’s real name is Jellal, just like if not all Edolan counterparts share the same first name of their earthland counterparts (e.g. Natsu Dragion, Lucy Ashely, Erza Knightwalker, Gray Surge etc). But being told now all of a sudden that Jellal changed his birth name doesn't work for Mystogan, as are we meant to believe that Mystogan conveniently changed his name to be ‘Jellal’ to match his earthland counterpart who was going through a mental crisis?
Mystogan, the one who’s whole thing was to keep his identity hidden and it’s Faust, the one who calls him out the name as Jellal. The one who is meant to be his father/father figure? Mystogan, who somehow has the name Jellal, a name Erza wasn’t even allowed to mention out of the Tower, which makes sense for him to have it if his counterpart had that birth name, but apparently that’s not the case?
I know I am probably just beating a dead horse now and I should get over it, but I just needed to write something since my head was struggling to make sense of the reveal for a long time. I don’t know what exactly is added to the story by Jellal’s birth name being ‘Siegrain’ other than shock value. Like what does this plot twist actually do? Nothing.
Other than it just makes the whole narrative so messy now and I don’t like it. If the aspect of DID was to be introduced for Jellal’s character, then what was wrong with Jellal being the host? And Siegrain being the alter that manifested as a trauma response?
It could have been something intriguing and insightful to explore, bring awareness about different trauma responses and also add a new layer to his character beyond just extremes of misguidance and the need for redemption.
But no.
God this just makes no sense.
I’m sorry for ranting, after seeing the Gears fight animated, it reminded me of THAT reveal and I just saw glaring plot holes which I completely blindsided the first time I read the chapter.  And what makes me even more annoyed is the DID aspect is probably just another plot convenience that is most likely never going to be brought up again ever.
And I’ve already said how I don’t like something serious such as trauma being used as a plot device.
Which it clearly is in this case.
The only way I can make sense of both events existing, is that it shows that Siegrain is so disassociated from his sense of self, that he has decided to adopt the identity of Jellal completely, killing his born self for the sake of the present and going as far to believe that Siegrain is the made one and not 'Jellal'.
However then that opens up a whole new discussion...One I might cover another day, but i'm afraid this is getting long enough as it is.
But yeah, thank you for listening to my ramblings if you’ve stayed this long.
I wonder if anyone else felt the same about the reveal as someone who likes Jellal's character? Or just has been following the story? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'm on a mix here tbh with the upcoming 100yqs cause while I'm nowhere near being updated but I know a bit of what's going on and mainly afraid of knowing how the animated world works they're gonna screw up certain relationships and character development that the manga has done I'm including everyone but up foremost I'm majorly going to be extra worried about my fav FT water wizard
Cause the antis are going to come back 10x fold with this

First post on Tumblr, and probably one of the very few since I don't use this site much. I've been looking for ways to share around a fanfiction I've been working on and Tumblr was recommended. So hey I'll give it a shot lol.
So I've been a fan of Fairy Tail since 2014. A couple years back I decided to delve into writing fanfiction. The story is called Sky Sorceress Savior of Exahelm (This is technically a remake of an older story I wrote since it wasn't that good when I finished it). The concept revolves around Wendy being taken to a isolated country that's located high in the sky. She is taken there for the purpose of using her magic to cure the country's ruler who is on the verge of death. Various Fairy Tail members and some outside help set off to this country to save their friend. Once they arrive, they soon realize this country is built around the idea of world peace with anti-magic laws and complete isolation of the rest of the world. The civilians treat Wendy as a brave hero who came to save their ruler. However, once the Fairy Tail members realize the true circumstances of Wendy's role, they have no other choice but to basically wage war with this country in order to rescue her. There was a line Natsu said in the first episode along the lines of "I don't care if you're a good or bad guy." And I wanted to make a scenario of what would happen if their enemy just so happens to be "good." I also wanted Wendy to be the focus because I enjoy her character (and how she connects with the cast) and despise how the main series has been treating her (100YQ specifically). A couple things of note:
There are a lot of original characters who are a big part of the focus.
Every character gets their time to shine so I'm not adding characters in for no reason lol.
This takes place after the main series ending. There will be no reference or mention of 100 Year Quest (Since I personally don't like it).
There will be no shipping in this. I don't do romance. It's mainly a adventure/action story.
The story is currently at 38 chapters with over 140,000 words.
The story takes heavy inspiration from One Piece (Whole Cake mainly). Which means there's a lot of world building if you enjoy that. Here's the AO3 link (it's also on fanfiction if you perfer reading on that, I update on AO3 first though). I dunno how often I'll check on this site but thanks for reading my post.
