Back from my big ol time away; 1 week at the Annecy animation festival where we saw early screenings and WIPs of films like TMNT, Elemental and Nimona, followed by 10 days in Chicago. Some lil doodles here n there along the way (feat. drawings from friends I went to Annecy with! I miss it sm already ;^;)

Ok so as far as I know all these are legit for the Annecy festival where they might drop some more s2 hints on 6/12 (personally I don’t think any trailers are coming until Sept/Oct like they did for S1 but that’s my thoughts on that) moving on,

First photo,

Clearly on the outside of the building, Vi looks similar to one of the generic poses she was holding in s1 posters so I don’t have much to say on her. Caitlyn on the other hand looks outright pissed, which I don’t blame her considering I’m one of the people convinced Cassandra’s biting the dust due to Fishbones, ngl I think they’re also using one of Ekko’s frames from ep 7 fighting Jinx so I don’t have much to say on him either as for Jinx it’s hard to tell where her eyeline is directly hitting I think it’s just generically at the three of them and of course her eyes still gleaming with Shimmer.

Next,

This one shows more of our Topsider friends, you can make out Victor, Ekko again, Sevika’s right next to him (you can tell by the nose and snarl on her lips) I think that may be Cait popping up again but I wasn’t sure cause Cait doesn’t really wear lipstick, Heimerdinger right next to them with his usual panicked expression, and in the lower right hand corner you can just make out Mel which means we’re probably seeing her post Fishbones (yay for Not-So-Average-Fangirl the ❤️Art❤️ has survived. Srry I just thought that was funny) Anyway, I don’t see Jayce here but he’s one of the few that I said is absolutely surviving into S2 mostly cuz I don’t think they could go on without wonder boy.

And lastly (for now),

This is clearly supposed to foil the S1 poster with young Vi and Powder where a scared Powder was looking directly at the audience. And, while Vi’s embrace of Powder was protective, this doesn’t hold that same merit to me at least. And this may just be me but Jinx’s eyebags look Significantly darker than episode 9 sooo yea she’s not doing better and Vi looks outright terrified (not that I blame her, honestly) and it looks like she’s just kinda starting off while Jinx has remained looking at the audience.

(Yea so I don’t have more unfortunately but as soon as I do you know I’ll be frantically posting it. Also my autocorrect keeps trying to put Ekko as Elmo and it’s really annoying 🤬)

GUYS!! Ive had another amazing day at annecy festival. I got to meet two of my animation heroes Jeff 'Swampy' Marsh and Dan Povenmire, the creators of Phineas and Ferb! They were absolutely amazing!!

Animation Night 186: les films primés

Hey friends, welcome back to Animation Night! Hope you all enjoyed Scavengers Reign as much as I did! My life has gotten pretty nuts in the last week, so our writeup today will have to be a little sparse, but I do have some exciting goodies~

The device on top is an external blu-ray/DVD player which I can plug into my ordinateur! Underneath it are some DVDs, containing the award winners from the Annecy festival in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

For those of you who were around in 2021, you might have seen some of these shorts, because that year the Annecy festival was online for pandemic reasons. In 2022 I couldn't go to the festival, so the contents of that disc are rather mysterious, but 2023 I was there in person and it was a blast! (I will hopefully soon have a chance to migrate all those posts onto my other site for easier navigation!)

I'm excited to have this BD/DVD player at last, because it will mean that we'll be able to access a lot more material that is not available online for whatever reason. These shorts are a great example of that kind of thing - sometimes, such films do make their way online eventually (e.g. on the NFB website if they were made in Canada), but often after making their tour of the festival circuit, those short films will disappear into some dusty archive, never to be seen again outside of weird little niche DVDs like this one.

So, what's the plan tonight? Well, this week and next, we'll pop on Twitch and have a crack at these DVDs. If I can find higher-res versions of the shorts I might show those instead. Along with that, I've found some rather good student films from this year's CalArts cohort, so we'll check out some of those as well.

All in all I have 29 films! Some funny, some dramatic, some abstract, but all full of The Vibes. I'll make a proper list later - but for now, anticipate a pretty varied grab bag of films from across all the categories of Annecy! These include some personal favourites like Hold Me Tight by Mélanie Robert-Tourneur, La Saison Pourpre by Clémence Bouchereau, and Drijf by Levi Stoops, which all happen to be about naked people. But not all the films in these DVDs are about naked people! That's either a reassurance or a warning depending on how much you like seeing naked people.

Animation Night is planned to begin at 21:30 UK time at twitch.tv/canmom, assuming no unexpected disruption. Drop in for some, drop in for all, either way I'll be glad to have you!
