Fi: The Myth of the Sacred Life

Fi's spiritual experience is called Edin and is described more fully on this page. As a psychological archetype, Edin appears as a prince or princess: a virgin, a siren, or a fairy. In symbolic form, it is depicted as a red rose, a seed, the moon, or the womb. Fi is the most archetypal female of all the functions, imbuing individuals with a passive personality. Hence, the Edin myth generates an impulse to fully embody Anima's form and become a "woman" to the world. However, the Edin myth goes beyond the energy embedded in biological sex. It adds a separate archetypal magic aside from the femininity available to most women, which traces its roots to the spirit of Gaia or the Mother Goddess. Edin is the protector of the life principle and often takes the form of a spiritual guardian of animals, rivers, lakes, and forests. Edin appears in folklore as sprites or spirits, each of which protects their cherished plot of nature in the same manner as Fi protects the boundaries of its prized identity. However, as the feminine archetype also possesses two sides, Edin can lead to a spirit of enticement where the myth holder becomes an elusive and seductive femme fatale, a nymph or succubus. In this form, Edin wishes to be coveted like a princess and enjoys the adulation of her suitors and the protection of her dedicated knight or King. The secret hope for this expression of Edin is to secure the eternal devotion of her masculine champion – wishing to be adored and prized above all else and all others for her unique identity.

The Fairy

When the Edin myth is in its light form, the princess or fairy is a pure and seelie agent of nature that bestows life, vitality, and healing to all beings with unconditional love. We see this embodied perfectly by Snow White, who surrounds herself with every forest creature, befriending them but also being capable of enlisting their help. The light Edin spirit can often communicate verbally or empathically with animals, generate flora from the ground, and speak directly with the trees. One expression of this is seen in Disney's adaptation of Pocahontas, who spoke with Grandmother Willow, and another can be seen in the elves of Tolkien's mythology, who gave trees the ability to speak. However, another manifestation is found in Cameron's Avatar mythology through the Navi's connection to the Mother Goddess through a fibrous mental interlink that acts as a communication portal. The primary motif of the light Edin myth is that "nature has a voice" and a pulse, which can be accessed if we listen earnestly. This myth is the anthropomorphization of the qualities of the emotional register, which directly links one's primacy and the primacy of Gaia and the cosmos. Edin is the emissary for Gaia, its spokeswoman, and the bringer of its desires to the rest of the human world.

The Witch

As with all myths, Edin possesses an inverted and darker incarnation, commonly depicted as evil or Unseelie fairy. At other times, it manifests as a demon or a witch who casts hexes on unsuspecting passersby. The character of the dark Edin archetype is envious, jealous, vile, and foul. It delights in seeing the tainting of purity more than it delights in causing death. The primary motif of this archetype is "corruption," as it wishes powerfully to sully the hearts of others and bring them into the shadows. The mythical motif of the witch casting hexes and jinxes is a psychological metaphor for how unseelie Fi radiates foul intentions, wishes, and slander in the direction of others. We see this myth embodied clearly in Theodor Geisel's The Grinch, who is himself an Unseelie fairy jealous of the Whoville fairies and intent to destroy their haven by disenchanting them towards the spirit of goodness. We see it again in Tolkien's mythology in the form of Gollum --the corrupted heart-- and more powerfully in the One Ring itself, representing the epitome of malice which Frodo as the light Edin must not be sullied by. We see it in Maleficent, who laid an evil curse over Aurora upon appearing at her ceremony. Once again, we see that the dark Edin wishes not necessarily for death upon its victims but for their suffering and fall out of innocence, making it primarily an ethical drama that motivates its action. This same mythical duality will exist in every Fi user's heart as they struggle with becoming embittered by the true suffering and cruelty of reality or remaining a transparent and open channel despite all the horror accompanying the experience of life.

I keep on forgetting I was the insanest arrowverse fan for a good 5 years of my life, and by that I mean I spun a wheel and every year I would just chose a character from it to be obsessed with and would memorize every important scene and watch them like 4 times a week at least. and think/talk abt them constantly, the works

5th grade was Caitlin snow, 6th grade was nora darhk, 7th I chilled out for a bit,,, but it was Caitlin snow, 8th grade was also Caitlin…, 9th grade was Caitlin again… BUT I also had a brief laurel phase, caught up w legends (to like s6 + really liked astra), and then had a Lena luthor/supercorp for a few months during the summer!! then bbc Merlin consumed me and morgana became the next character subject to my brainrot!! I’m excited to see what other characters will enter my hall of fixation !!

Enneagram 5 Subtype Explained

The Social 5 "Totem"

The SO5 is the most assertive and ambitious of the enneagram 5. This subtype combines the desire of E5 (knowledge and understanding) and the social drive to create and share knowledge. They find great importance In the power of knowledge. Usually having a hyper fixed desire on what is true and logistically correct. John Lukovich describes them as having a "promethean calling" which I think is probably the most accurate of this subtype. Due to their desire to share their obtained knowledge.

The Self Preservation 5 "Castle"

The SP 5 looks to fulfill their desire for knowledge and understanding through gaining insight on their specific interest. The 5 have this 9ish quality to them in the sense that the desire to create an environment that makes them comfortable. However unlike the 9 the sp5 does it in order to maxine efficiency in their interest. This subtype maybe the most social awkward of the enneagram. I personally would attribute curiosity as their defining characteristic. Usually this subtype looks like a typical 5 (quite and reserved) however they can also look like 9s due their introverted and constant narcotization.

The Sexual 5 "Trust"

As the counter type of E5 this subtype looks to find a personal other through the sharing of interest and insight. This subtype subverts the usual conventions of the E5 by being focused on emotional desire. However they are stick an E5 so the struggle of them being a rejection type is still there. They go about fulfilling their core desire by finding a significant other that holds their exact same interest. Similar to the E4 they portray an image of somebody who us deeply interesting however unlike the E4 its not an image but a reality of the subjects interest and desires.

Minato & Kushina: A "Deep Dive" Analysis (Section B, Part II)

Earlier parts here.

So far we've explored Minato and Kushina's oneness in terms of the Hokageship. But what of their personal hopes behind ‘Hokage?’

(Section B) II. Minato and Kushina as Types

Genin-Kushina speaks of Minato being able to “make all of [her] dreams come true,” and spirit-Kushina thinks, in her final farewell, “our hopes really did reach our son.” On his deathbed, Jiraiya thinks of Naruto as having "inherited Minato and Kushina’s hopes" and makes a direct link between those hopes and the hero of his novel.

The novel’s hero embarks on a mission to bring peace and the couple name their son after him. Why? Because this “Naruto” embodies their hopes and dream: peace. They grew up in an era of war. Kushina lost her village and is a prisoner and weapon at Konoha’s beck and call. Minato loses two of his students, fails to fix the third's trauma, and sees the woman he loves suffer her entire life being the jinchūriki.

Furthermore, Minato is Jiraiya’s student, whose will he also inherits – harkening to the prophesied shinobi who will usher in an era of peace. A "savior" whom I will call, to maintain the parents' vision in mind, "peacemaker."

Which, of course, brings us to Minato and Kushina’s living legacy.

Naruto, this “child of prophecy,” dubs himself “Konoha’s Orange Hokage” as an amalgamation of the Yellow Flash and Red-Hot Habanero. By extension, thus, the peacemaker (and Hokage) title belongs to Minato and Kushina together, embodied in the living, breathing, walking result of their love.

We touched on Naruto inheriting his parents’ love and redeeming Kurama (turning Hatred himself into a vessel of love). But moreover, as Kurama’s jinchūriki he is the 'key' to changing the future. Passed from Jiraiya to Minato to Naruto is the mission of bringing peace. And passed from Kushina to Naruto is the means of accomplishing it.

Jiraiya first believes Minato is the child of prophecy (chapter: Minato’s Dead Demon Consuming Seal), and the anime version of their talk features a pregnant Kushina with them. So right as Minato learns of the prophecy, their child – its fulfiller – is present. Foreshadowed is the legacy Minato will bestow both as a peacemaker and the peacemaker’s father.

[Now on the topic of 'savior,' Naruto has been called by many fans a ‘Christ figure.’ This trope is actually a misnomer. Do you know what Jesus Christ actually did, what salvation actually is? Check out this 1-minute video:

To define the saviorship motif in Naruto, we're talking about something very different. The series themes salvation as a ‘saving’ from hatred internal and external; a reconciling peace with oneself and peace between nations.]

Jiraiya and Minato’s conversation is not the first foreshadowing of the savior theme. The entire series kicks off, in fact, with the following prologue:

Minato is introduced as Konoha’s “champion” in direct conjunction with “Fourth Hokage.” Then we jump to the title of Chapter 1: Uzumaki Naruto! Naruto debuts desecrating the Hokage rock faces – a jokey hint that he’ll one day surpass them all.

Pranking which, for a fun fact, is an "interest" of Kushina's per one of the databooks.

We find mentions of “Fourth Hokage” throughout the story and learn that Naruto reminds Jiraiya of this renowned hero. He appears in person in the prelude to the timeskip – the ‘second prologue’ if you will – as Obito’s sensei. Then we jump to a 15-year-old Naruto returning to the village with Jiraiya. The parallelism in the two ‘prologues’ juxtaposes Minato and Naruto in the grand narrative: Minato is the typological peacemaker who secures the future; Naruto is the legacy peacemaker who carries it out. Minato is both a peacemaker himself and a ‘type’ (a ‘pre-figure’) of the one to come.

How is Minato a true peacemaker and a type? His love gave Kushina the peace to overcome Kurama, prefiguring the internal peace Naruto will help others achieve. And his actions contributed to ending the Third Great War, prefiguring the external peace Naruto will usher with the Fourth.

Framing Jiraiya’s flashback of Naruto’s parents is the theme of the child of prophecy, in the contrasts between his three students who were candidates for the role. Jiraiya is killed by Nagato who lost faith and betrayed his teachings; he remembers Minato who held faith and died for that faith; and in remembering Minato’s faith he recalls his own faith in Naruto – that Naruto is the one who will see their mission through.

In this flashback Minato is visually removed from “Fourth Hokage:” he is in his plain attire without the cloak. He is verbally removed from Fourth Hokage, with not a mention relating to the title. And we know that he is Hokage because Kushina is (heavily) pregnant.

Minato in this scene is three things, linked in the connection of three wills. He is the student of author and sensei Jiraiya, whose will he has inherited. He is the husband of (heavily) pregnant Kushina, who shares (and carries the fulfiller of) that will. And he is the father of to-be-born Naruto, who will fulfil that will.

Moreover, this scene is entirely centered around them naming Naruto (the act of doing so in itself a symbol of passing on legacy). With their child being named after the hero in Jiraiya’s novel, we see the amalgamating of the to-be-parents’ and Jiraiya’s legacies into one.

Kushina likewise is met not as “Konoha’s jinchūriki” but Naruto’s mother – this moment being her first in-person appearance in the series. She is very heavily pregnant, Minato remarking on their “soon-to-born child,” and when she enters the room all attention is drawn to her belly swollen with Naruto.

In both the anime and game versions, in fact, we see Kushina’s belly before we see the rest of her. In the anime, she waddles tummy-first into the frame, and after close-up shots of her and Jiraiya is a close-up of her caressing it.

In the game (Storm Generations), we have a mid-shot of just her belly, from which the camera pans up to her face.

[Kushina rubbing her belly in the anime could also imply that the baby is kicking. Which would further make Naruto not just the topic of, but active in the scene. (Though of course, pregnant women are known to rub their bellies all the time. Just a thought.)]

Kushina’s mention-debut too is in conjunction with Naruto: Tsunade says Naruto takes after “his mother” before she introduces her name. The first word Kushina herself speaks is “Naruto,” with her remark that the name is “wonderful.” And she does the same in her second appearance 16 years later when she saves him from Kurama.

Further, Kushina's mention-debut draws a contrast between her and Minato in relation to their son. Where we’ve been led up to this point to believe that Naruto is a ‘mini-Minato’ (reminding Jiraiya of “Lord Fourth,” having the Hokage dream and so forth), Jiraiya and Tsunade reveal the key twist: Naruto is LESS like Minato and VERY MUCH like Kushina.

Tsunade attributes Naruto’s personality and ninjutsu style to “definitely” being from Kushina. Additionally, aside from his hair and eye-color, his face is the splitting image of his mother’s. (We are in no way discrediting Minato here – Naruto is in many ways, as we’ll discuss, like his father too. The emphasis is that he is far less like Minato in comparison.)

[It is greatly fitting that Jiraiya and Tsunade are the ones to exposit these details, being the prior generation characters themselves in the circle of legacy. As Mito’s granddaughter, Tsunade is essentially ‘the Uzumaki’ of her generation. She also sits in a curious position in the Hokage line: succeeding Hiruzen who (preceded and) succeeded Minato; and preceding Kakashi who will precede Naruto. Further, in dynamics and traits we have a multi-generation parallel: Hashirama and Mito; Jiraiya and Tsunade; Minato and Kushina; Naruto and Sakura; and Boruto and Sarada/Himawari. This is something we will visit later too, for there is a plethora of parallels here. (Note I said “dynamics and traits,” not “ships,” so hold your pitchforks. We'll certainly discuss Hinata too.)]

So Tsunade, our Uzumaki ‘cousin,’ tells us that Naruto is most like his mother, with Jiraiya’s agreement and reveal that he does not in fact possess Minato’s genius. (Contrary to a common fan misperception, Naruto is a people and battle genius. So by this lack we mean academic, Kushina herself admitting she was bad at studying.) These statements follow Jiraiya and Tsunade discussing their faith in Naruto becoming Hokage. And here we have in subtext something which gets very much overlooked.

Recall me saying that Kushina gives Naruto the means of bringing peace while Minato (and Jiraiya) pass on the mission. That means is not only Kurama, but the very trait at the core of Naruto’s personality.

Yes, we are talking about his signature technique: the soul-piercing ‘talk no jutsu.’

It is of no insignificance that Minato’s dying words to Naruto are “ditto your loquacious mother” (or in the anime, "your talkative mom said it all"). Nor that Naruto repeats his mother’s speech to Minato verbatim after he has helped save the world. Minato’s dying act is to sacrifice himself, putting his faith in his son WITH Kushina's chakra. His final departure to the Pure Lands is a following of that faith fulfilled.

It is also of no insignificance that Kushina’s self-introduction to Naruto is on his inheriting her talkativeness. Naruto realizes who she is not by her near-identical face, nor by the fact that he had met his father under similar circumstances, but by her verbal tick 'ttebane like his 'ttebayo. Ironically, her “Minato didn’t say anything?” line alludes to this even further: Kushina is the one to pass on the passionate, empathetic talkative quirk; one Minato doesn't have.

(Let us not distort the context: Minato had far less time with Naruto so he couldn't say much. But the emphasis still stands, for he ensured Kushina would have far more time, saying, “There are things that only you can tell him. Things that I can’t. That’s a mother’s role.”)

Further, Kushina's starkest display of this quirk is while she is pregnant with Naruto. Recalling his promise to her, Edo-Minato thinks back to her rambling about the future traits of their baby. And when he calms her, asking how she could possibly know, she replies with confidence, “Because I’m his mother.” Look at the manner in which she says it here below: her expression reads, "Well, duh." She is fully convinced that their baby is a boy and that he will want to be Hokage, that he will act up when his father is busy and be a little trouble-maker.

And she works herself into a state over it, showing her intuition and empathy. She envisions Naruto acting out to get attention when feeling deprived due to Minato's work. She envisions how this will further affect his behavior, leading him to "defy his teachers" and so on. What we see is a display of how deeply she can read others, and what is played in the fretting-mom sense gets passed to the child in her womb. The intuition and empathy by which this baby will peer into people's hearts and expose their desires and philosophies, expressed through his talk-no-jutsu.

Why is this so crucial? Because Kushina is a ‘type’ for the “child of prophecy” too. Naruto is Minato’s legacy as rescuer; he is Kushina’s as redeemer. Two aspects wholly intertwined in him achieving their dream of peace.

And on that note, we can now delve further into internal conflicts – beginning with Minato journeying on his personal redemption arc.

That's a thing about him I'm still trying to understand so I'm not sure I can explain!

He just has traits that don't normally go together. Cynical and unusually trusting. Too polite for his own good and incredibly violent. Casually cruel without being sadistic. Self-centered but not self-indulgent. Has a huge ego but none of the traits that usually go with that. Cares about family so much but doesn't expect them to care in return.

Which in every separate case is not that unusual and has a perfect explanation, but then you try to combine the explanations and then *those* don't go together.

I can't come up with a model that would consistently predict him. I went through Nancy McWilliams book (my favorite psych typology) and then through DSM and I still have no idea. PTSD/cPTSD is obvious but PTSD is not a personality type.

Humans are rarely pure types but normally you can pinpoint a pattern of psychological defence mechanisms the person prefers. And with him I kiiiind of can but real life people with these defence mechanisms don't normally behave like him.

I can't even decide on the level of functioning (he's clearly not psychotic but that's about it).

Like... yeah, some fit better than the others but it feels like that Kyoto garden where you can never see all 15 stones at the same time, one is always blocked from view by the others. No matter what model I pick there's always a detail or two that don't fit it.

Human mind simply doesn't bend at those angles.

Theoretically I could explain it with him having multiple personalities he switches between but he's obviously not written like that and DID has its own rules too so it doesn't quite fit either.

(bonus: it's very fun to look at Maslow's hierarchy of needs with Childe in mind. he has it all filled. the whole pyramid, just in unexpected ways.

Fi Animism

Fi is a function that defines an object by its essential nature (Ji) while also experiencing the object as having an animate (F) character. Objects are registered as having a living property, thus triggering a personal relationship to that object's character, whether it is one of personal resonance or dissonance. This occurs even if the objects are inorganic, in which case they are not seen as alive but still have a character defined by how they relate to animate concerns.

Seeking the Truth to Life

As a compass function, Fi is driven by an unrelenting quest to find the principles lying at the core of the universe and the nature of being. As a judgment function, it treats all information as subject to an ever-crystallizing explanatory framework, which is shaped according to the laws sensed to govern reality. Truth means approaching this elusive but unified nexus of all things, which does not preclude meaning and value. Fi considers how the divine principle ties everything together, including the living and non-living. Thus, for Fi, the truth of "what is" cannot be separated from the essential questions of what constitutes intrinsic value. The Fi user understands that even our pursuit of knowledge is predicated on an impulse that takes the value of knowledge for granted, thus pressing the question further back than knowledge for its own sake. We cherish knowledge as part of a higher, intrinsic value that must be approached and uncovered through a convergence of subjective and objective information. The Fi user will be a rationally motivated individual but one who does not eliminate the information of their body or emotional register but instead uses it as a compass to discover what is simultaneously the reality of existence and the truthful way of "being" in that existence. Approaching this nexus means eliminating any incongruencies that might muddle the path to that purity and knowledge. It means resonating with its core structure and having it live through them, an occurrence which, for many Fi users, is synonymous with harmonizing intentions with the Divine. However, each Fi user will discover different things as they construct their private gnosis due to their journey; some describe this apex principle as Love, Reason, Goodness, or God. However, for the Fi user, the questions of truth and goodness are inseparable and irreducible. The answer is to be found from without, but also from within -- and for that, one must necessarily be a clear channel and vessel into that truth.

Attunement & Purification

The Fi user is left with the difficult task of making sense of themselves - and, by extension, humanity and the cosmos - from the inside out. However, the human interior is multi-dimensional and prone to express distorted emotions, thus mishapping our view of reality. Like ripples on an ocean surface or the static noise of a crowded room, the complexity can be overwhelming and obstruct even the most fundamental truths. In order to abate this inner confusion, the strong Fi user is forced to spend a great deal of time teasing apart emotions to see the reality of being and other beings. They will constantly ask, "Am I seeing the truth of them? am I seeing myself?" -- focusing on clarifying motivations, intentions, and the meaning of sentiments. A lack of clarity can lead to complete freezing and a sense of being utterly lost. For Fi, actions can only rightly flow out of them when the channel is clear and the intent is understood and pursued earnestly. Moreover, lacking this can feel like a foggy cloud or miasma rests over their inner vision, which they cannot look past. Their soul may feel sloshy, dense, and thick like molasses. Their compass' needle becomes disoriented in its direction, affected by the energetic interference of inner and outer vectors. This distress will lead them to think obsessively about the right cause, motive, and intent, creating a constant state of inner "maintenance" to alleviate tangles, which quickly feel like a state of suffocation. The principle motif for Fi becomes "attunement." It becomes the aim of the Fi user to be a calibrated tuning fork capable of giving the right tune no matter the situation. Over time, the Fi user becomes keenly aware of the dynamics of the heart and tries to pierce through into a transcendent actuality that is not muddled by personal feelings and hang-ups. They may understand that none of those emotions are contradictory at the highest level. However, they are explicable from the right kaleidoscope lens, which sees everything as a faceted but ultimately harmonious whole. Nonetheless, this active purification remains a constant activity of the Fi user, as they will likely be disturbed by evocations from themselves and the energy around them due to their permeable nature.

Permeability

The Fi user exists in a constant state of high permeability, an uncontrollable receptivity to other people's emotional energy and the world. When that energy is undesired, this can lead to hypersensitivity and jarring friction as the emanations of others register like a violent attack on their clarity and private alignment. A conflict develops between the Fi user wanting to have their inner state undisturbed and resisting being drowned by the states of others. They may feel like the outside is trying to change who they are against their will, swallowing their existence and making them subservient. However, if the emotional energy is desirable, the Fi user is gifted with an empathic ability and turns their attention to analyzing the emanations from the place of the singular individual, discovering how situations may feel to them from the exact position and context they stand in. To do this, the Fi user steps into the shoes of those whose energy they evaluate, opening their heart's membrane and viscerally assimilating all the essences and sensations of the other from the specificity of their life and coming to know them thoroughly. This unbidden permeability is not only emotional but also carries sexual and erotic undertones woven into it as Fi assimilates all emitted energies indiscriminately – leading eventually to a sensual permeability and overtake. Fi carries a naturally feminine and submissive charge as they experience multiple types of penetration from the environment and unfiltered contact with others around them. When contact is not being resisted, their susceptibility to "letting others in" contributes powerfully to a higher openness to sexual exploration and the exploration of atypical conjunctions. Many Fi users discover within them latent sexual affinities as they dis-inhibit sexuality from their ego, accounting for the much higher representation of Fi users within the LGBTQ+ community. The boundaries between people become easily blurred, and affinities for all types of energies are readily discovered within them.

Emotional Palate

However, because of this remarkably visceral and intimate permeability, the Fi user is inescapably forced to develop powerful charges for or against specific types of emotional information, as it is impossible to allow all emanated energies equal access into their being. However, because they cannot be neutral or indifferent about it and are permeable, they must meet undesired energies with strong reactions of repulsion and disgust. An emotional push-back is executed whenever the Fi user says "no" to allowing an experience from another person or the world to enter their otherwise sensitive interior. The Fi user exists in a constant limbo of attraction and repulsion as their heart becomes a selective valve to people. Moreover, each Fi user will be particular about what content they allow in and which they cast out, tailored from a lifetime of bombardments that have made a custom allowlist for acceptable things. This case-by-case approval of emotional content will make Fi users appear picky or finicky to onlookers who may be unable to guess when they will appreciate or depreciate their remarks, appearing to them as a frustrating game of chance. A particular word, gesture, or look will be enough to flag an individual on the wrong side of Fi's emotional palate, causing a significant barrier between them and that person's energy. Over time, the stringent use of this palate causes an Unseelie attitude to arise, where the majority of energies from others are repulsed and repelled by default. The Fi user's continual use of this palate develops over time into a very idiosyncratic aesthetic, their own uniquely created castle made of all they approve of. Through discovering their tastes and affinities, they also uncover their intrinsic essence.

Discovery of Inner Essence

The Fi user is aware very early on that every individual possesses a unique and sacred soul which remains unmodified at its core but which can be tarnished and crippled by our necessary collision with an imperfect world. Through years of conditioning, the environment misshapes and warps that essence when we are forced to live through imaginary characters and personas to fabricate egos and narratives atop our neglected and parched nativity. When Fi is strong in a person, acute aspiration buds forth to boldly return themselves and others to their sacred spark, that purity that always remains incorruptible but buried beneath a mountain of faces; Fi will initiate a rebirth process, a shedding away of skins to decouple our true dreams from outside expectations and to cease being a molded and polished copy of an ideology that is not one's own. Moreover, as many Fi users dive headlong into the unconscious to find their essence, they may discover something feral, wild, and untamed. The essence of a human, they find, is animal and creature-like. This creature, the uncivilized soul, is intimately connected to nature, just like the rest of the animal kingdom. The Fi user discovers their eternal roots with the rest of life and their kinship with birds and beasts. Many Fi users who discover their inner animal decide to take on the life of a naturalist, living in agriculture with no makeup or intervention from the loud machinery of the world, and where they can choose not to shave or cut their hair. They will thirst to "be" themselves in as naked and unmodified a way as possible.

Idiosyncrasy & Self-Expression

However, in other expressions, the Fi user can choose to eliminate the cultural persona to make their own as a reflection of their idiosyncratic nature. This can lead to very off-beat existences, such as the exhibition of cross-dressing, queer or counter-culture identities. They can be creative and eccentric as well as decorative. As a Ji function, Fi cares powerfully about individuality and aligning self-expression with self-identity, leading the Fi user to beautify themselves per their aesthetic personal vision. Some Fi users will embody a diva or prima donna that radiates their sexuality freely as an expression of their raw existence. Others may be asexual and choose to be androgynous in their appearance by growing or cutting their hair to neutralize their gender's energetic tilt. As many variations will exist as there are Fi users, all will carry the imprint of a culturally indifferent decision-making process. This often places the Fi user in the headlights of brutal social criticism, harassment, and verbal abuse. However, by their continual advocacy of the individual, they can transform society away from the shame of our raw nature and into a higher integration of our primal instincts and inner beauty.

-Behaviors Under Stress

Hypersensitivity & Overwhelm

As noted, Fi will give a person an unordinary level of sensitivity to incoming energies, and when the stress and gravity of life cause a fall out of emotional health, what began as a blessing in understanding others through assimilation inverts into a disability amidst the raw static and noise of an overwhelming situation. Their empathic abilities backfire as their heart's open channel lets more acute emotions in than what can be healthily processed. They will become hyper-stimulated, far too sensitive to negative vibes, and utterly unable to tolerate hostile environments without collapsing into tears. They can come to feel physically ill in emotionally weighted situations, needing to get away from them as soon as possible. There is freezing and paralysis, volatility, and hysteria. This will cause them to exist like a raw, flailing electric line — still hot but exposed. Everything is noisy, and knowing what one believes or stands for becomes difficult. Those around the Fi user may criticize them as moody, sulky, and volatile. Their behaviors may appear melodramatic and passive-aggressive from the vantage point of an outsider who is unaware of how sharply affected the Fi user is by their emotional stress. At other times, they will pour out poetry and songs to encapsulate their condition, indulging in passive-aggressive commentary on the world while containing glimmers of squelched hopes. This Fi user will be a broken bird, a disenchanted idealist who realizes that the world is too wretched for beauty to last within. They will talk about their difficulties in life openly with a mournful spirit. The same transparent emotional radiation that was once bashful and giddy becomes melodramatic, sullen, and woeful. They will wear their bleeding heart in open display, emanating a private sorrow that also saturates their environment.

Alexithymia & Dissociation

However, if the stress and trauma of life persist even beyond this intolerable threshold, the Fi user may shut down their heart entirely and enter a state of profound dissociation. When it becomes impossible for the Fi user to exist in connection to their permeability, the channels of the emotional register are cauterized. They become depersonalized from themselves, unable to sense or track emotional energies. The rivers of the heart run dry. A blank look falls over their face, and their body ceases to belong to them. Reality feels surreal and dream-like. Those in their surroundings may appear as lifeless silhouettes with no more of a soul than they can sense within, inevitably leading to alexithymia or a dysfunction in emotional awareness, social attachment, and interpersonal ability. In these moments, the Fi user superficially resembles a Ti user. However, for the Fi user, this detachment represents a neurotic state that applies immense stress on their body and psyche. The dissociation will be unnatural, crippling, and inhibiting their everyday operations. The Fi user may appear to be on the Asperger's or Autistic spectrum, lacking any grace or ability to connect with anyone as their primary channel for contact has short-circuited. However, beneath that stoicism, the unaddressed heart will continue to wail, expressing itself in silence, with private tears that may appear to start flowing perplexingly without origin.
