August, 1315: The Ezzo Farm
While much of Tartosa was spared from the worst of the famine that was rumored to be ravaging other kingdoms? The Ezzo farm was still running into difficulties. Their animals had all died out and their crops have yet to take.
It was by the grace of the Watcher that others still have been able to keep their crops and livestock alive. While their community was more than willing to help each other, however, everything would be more expensive. That combined with their taxes to the empire and tithes to the church... Would make life difficult.
On the bright side, Vanna was able to sell what they still had left over for a higher price as well as paying higher prices for the things they needed. And she also had more time for her hobbies; preparing clothes for the new baby using the time she would have spent chasing after livestock.
Speaking of her pregnancy, things were growing difficult. She'd never been pregnant before, but she wondered if it was normal to feel so dizzy and weak all of the time? To not be able to get through her simple, daily chores?
She knew many women (including her own mother) who had no such issues. . . But they also had more food on their tables. . .
She decided to keep her worries to herself. Her husband had enough on his plate and had already lost all of his children and his previous wife. She couldn't bring herself to distress him when it could be nothing.
#it's pregnancy anemia#which fits SCARY well with the famine#also from my brief research Rome DID get hit by the famine#but not all of Italy did#then again it could be wrong#“Europe” is a little vague#Tartosa is more Rome based in my save though because it has the HRE and it used to have the Vatican#and will again in the future#ts4#sims 4#the sims 4#sims 4 ultimate decades challenge#ultimate decades challenge#udc#morbid's ultimate decades challenge#tartosa#1315#1315 tartosa#the great famine#ezzo family

After seeing the Big Cat babies interacting with the Bumblebabies, I am now wondering whether or not pregnant P!Blake had any weird cravings.
T!Yang would be looking quite lost in trying to fulfill the request/demand until she overhears Blake, also pregnant, tells tells Yang what she wants.
I have absolutely no idea if animals get pregnancy cravings, but that is definitely a thought. This one might be tricky, but let's see what I can do.
*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_*
Panther!Blake: (laying in the pool and trying to rest. A fish swims right in front of her face and she ignores it)
Tiger!Yang: (shocked)
Yang: Yeah, I feel you, girl. Both of our ladies have been having weird diet issues since they got pregnant.
Blake: (waddling down the grade with a swollen baby belly) Um... Yang?
Tiger!Yang & Yang: (turn heads)
Blake: (scratches T!Y behind the ears) Sorry, baby. Not you.
Tiger!Yang: (turns back to P!B grumbling in content in the water)
Yang: What's up, babe? How's the baby?
Blake: Baby's fine... um... baby wants red meat for dinner tonight...
Yang: And how do you know that?
Blake: I've been chewing ice all day and when I passed by the Macaw exhibit I wanted to lick the clay on the cliff wall.
Yang: You know spinach is a better source of iron, right?
Blake: (wrinkles her nose and places her hand on her belly where a little twitch pushed against the skin) Baby didn't like that.
Yang: Okay, okay, chicken? Eggs? Steak? Hamburgers?
Blake: .....Baby likes steak.
Yang: (laughing) Okay, steak it is. We can stop by the store on the way home tonight.
Tiger!Yang: (watching P!B licking the soil on the edge of the pool) Hmmm....
-Later That Night-
Yang: Baby happy?
Blake: (cuddling up to Yang) Baby happy.
TV: BREAKING NEWS!!!
Lisa Lavender: Good Evening, I'm Lisa Lavender. Our top story for the evening: A tiger has broken out of the Beacon Zoo and stolen a whole side of beef off the rail at Old Man Butchers. Civilians are advised to please remain indoors until the tiger is subdued.
Yang & Blake: (blink) God dammit, Yang.
-At the Zoo-
Panther!Blake: (going to town on the side of beef)
Tiger!Yang: (puffs up proudly) I did good.

Circling back to the "weak women" thing...even today, in the 21st century, pregnancy wreaks havoc on the body. That's with modern medicine, that's with most pregnancies happening when we're older, and that's with most people only having a few kids. A lot of bullshit stereotypes about women being weak make a lot more sense when you remember that a.) way more women had to get married and have children, b.) couples historically had more children (because so many kept dying for the above reasons), and c.) women used to begin birthing at a far younger age than is currently the norm.
There was a TikTok post about an advertisement for “blood-making pills for weak women” someone found in a newspaper from the 1890s and everybody seemed to think it was just an example of the weird misogyny of the day and age but no. Anemia was a massive public health concern. It always has been through history but part of the reason we have this idea of old timey women thought history being physical weak, chronically cold and pale and fainting is because they often they were. Anemia was also a massive problem for men in that day but even now it disproportionally affects people who menstruate. So tonics full of stimulants and “healthful vitamins” were marketed at young women in pages upon pages of advertisements in every newspaper. People generally felt like shit all the time back then.

I'm Laila Shaqoura, a displaced person from northern Gaza to the south, specifically the city of Rafah. Amid this ongoing aggression, there is no glimmer of hope except through you and your support for us. Let me tell you the story of my mother and her unborn child during this war.
Amid this destruction, my pregnant mother faces countless challenges. She suffers from malnutrition due to the lack of healthy food, which puts her and her unborn child at multiple health risks. The insufficient healthcare and weakened immunity have led to her contracting hepatitis, anemia, intestinal diseases, and preeclampsia. Additionally, the psychological pressure from the war and displacement exacerbates her suffering. The constant worry for the family's safety and the fear of the continuous intense bombing last night resulted in high blood pressure, imbalance, and fainting this morning. It was a terrible morning.
Despite the sounds of artillery, gunfire, bombing, fear, and anxiety, a new life continues to form inside my mother's womb. She carries the hope for the future, but the war has stolen her ability to dream. She not only carries a child but also the burdens and pains of war. The pain of her pregnancy is intensified by the weight of war and its sorrows. She carries life in her womb while war destroys life around her. Sometimes, we wonder: will this awaited child live in such a shattered world?
At this moment, I wonder if the war will take this awaited child from us before seeing the light of day.
Rafah is no longer safe, and the sounds of bombing intensify every night. There is no time to escape death. My mother's health is deteriorating. There is no healthcare. We want her to stay alive. This matter concerns the lives of two people (a mother and her child). Let's extend a helping hand to those who have lost everything. Your donation can give new life and hope for the future.
