Since these are long, I’m going to answer this in three parts!

Fandom

The moment in the story that I started shipping my OTP from this world?

Well, my OTP is definitely Klena, and I think I started shipping them in episode 11 of season 2. Elena goes to Slater’s apartment to send that message to Klaus - the doppelgänger is alive and ready to surrender. And 14 year old me was immediately like 😍🤭👀. After that, Klaus asking Elena to save a dance for him and all was just….loaded.

Like, even before they met, there were these vibes and I was just in love with them. The way he holds her at the sacrifice, their chemistry during the prank night episode, it definitely got to me. They’ve been waxing and waning in my mind since then.

My three favorite characters and why I love them so much.

The first is, of course, Elena. That very first scene in the cemetery where she’s writing in her diary had me hooked. I was so intrigued by her loneliness and her depression, someone I could identify with, who was so internalised. I’d always felt weird about being an introvert, and Elena was one of the first characters that I identified with. Now, after a decade, I can also identify with her grief, and it’s just that much more personal to me.

The second is Klaus. When he first came on the show, I wasn’t sure what to make of him. I def found him attractive 😅 but I thought there was more to him that I needed to see. I thought, multiple times “what an asshole”, but I could also recognise his loneliness and his fear of being abandoned, and they just resonated with me. By s4 of TVD, I was already in love with him, and followed him onto TO. (That was for Elijah too 🤭)

And third, I think, is Cami. I loved Cami, I saw her as this girl trapped in darkness, and trying to find her way out, until eventually she didn’t want to find a way out anymore. It was nice to see someone who was somewhat ordinary getting trapped between these vampires. The beginning of her relationship with Klaus is so fascinating to me, like she obviously sees him as a tortured soul, while he is actively hurting her through his mind control. But she fights back, and she’s tenacious, she’s probably one of the few people who fights against Klaus’ compulsion and then gets out of it. Refuses to play by his games but also plays him sometimes to get what she wants. Her struggle with vampirism was so, so real, and both her deaths were the saddest I’ve seen in that universe.

Which scene I would like to erase from the universe and why.

Ugh, the entire torture episode. Where Damon and Stefan (the saviours 🙄) both torture Elena to turn her humanity back on. Get Katherine to help too, just disgusting. That episode shows just how much internalised misogyny some of the show runners themselves held.

Which character I would choose for the chopping block if I knew the writers wanted to kill someone?

Probably Matt. Like, I like him well enough, but after a certain point, what does he even bring to the table?

The world-building aspect of the story I have the greatest admiration for.

The Originals for sure! I absolutely love s3 of TVD but s2 is so fucking good. The build up is amazing, first we’re introduced to Isobel, then that Katherine entry (like damn), just when we think she’s the baddest, Elijah shows up and scares the fuck out of Katherine.

And then, this intense build up to Klaus and sun and moon curse, only for us to learn that it was all fake, and to know about the real curse. It’s just…. Brilliant storytelling. Like yes, there are loopholes, and it’s the CW, but it’s just so well paced. I’ll be honest though, once the originals show up, it feels like we go into a different level. So much of the credit for that goes to Daniel and then Joseph, they were both brilliant, and they brought something unique to their roles that made us want to see them more. They elevated every scene they were in and Paul, Nina and Kat were the only ones who could keep up imo, at least in terms of screen presence.

The perfect number of books/seasons/movies needed to tell this story properly.

I think 4-5 seasons were more than enough. I’m not a fan post s4 (and s4 hangs on by a thread).

Rewriting Haggar/Honerva’s redemption arc

One of the many things that bothered me about VLD S8 is Honerva’s redemption arc. While I was never fully against the idea of Honerva getting a redemption arc, I just didn’t want VLD to do it because I knew that they would fuck it up if they tried. And low and behold, I was right!

But yeah, I wasn’t against the idea of her being redeemed. And I don’t mean “redeemed” as in “all is forgiven and she’s just a good guy now,” but more like a Darth Vader, “the things she did were inexcusable and she would never be able to right all her wrongs but she goes out on one good act to show that there was still good in her deep down and she at least had the potential to change.”

I know a lot of people don’t like the whole, “redemption=death” thing, which I understand, but I personally never had a problem with it.

Ok, so why didn’t Honerva’s redemption work? Well there are a few reasons but the one that baffles me the most is that, instead of trying to make her more sympathetic, season 8 seemed to go out of its way to show her being more evil and vile than ever.

And because I have nothing better to do, I’m gonna go through Honerva’s story in VLD and explain what I would change to make her redemption more believable.

(Keep in mind I am not a writer, this is just me ranting about my favorite character and how I personally would’ve written her.)

1. Realizing she’s Altean

I always thought it’s was weird that when Allura said “you’re...Altean!?” In the S2 finale, Haggar didn’t seem to react at all, she just kept attacking. It’s as if she didn’t care or already knew, which doesn’t make sense considering in the S3 finale and S8E2 it’s established that Haggar has no memory of who she was before she died. And in S4E3 she seems shocked by her Altean face (which also doesn’t make sense because her blue skin isn’t camouflage that’s just how she looks after the rift) so it seems like she didn’t know.

Wouldn’t it have made more sence if after Allura said “you’re...Altean!?” Honerva looked confused/shocked? If she became defensive and said Allura was lying/trying to insult her? There’s def anti-Altean propaganda in the empire so it would be considered an insult.

After that she starts questioning Zarkon. And when she looks into his mind, it’s out of genuine curiosity and desire to know the truth, not because, “the empire needs him” or whatever that meant.

And isn’t it a bit odd that she doesn’t seem betrayed at all when she finds out Zarkon has been keeping all this from her? She’s just like, “oh, you’re my husband? Cool.” Wtf???

2. Her past relationship with Zarkon

Okay, I love Zonerva, but if we’re being honest, Zarkon was not the best husband. He enabled the shit out of Honerva, even when it was obvious that the rift was doing serious damage to her physical and mental health. To me, it seems like Zarkon was so blinded by the power the rift gave him that he didn’t realize/ignored the negative effect it was having on Honerva. In the same way he downplayed the negative impact the rift had on the planet.

I think that should’ve been explored more. Maybe Honerva notices that she’s been acting differently and is worried somethings wrong (think S5 Kuron). And Honerva tries to tell Zarkon that she feels strange and Zarkon just brushes it off.

And later, when Alfor visits Diaibazaal years later. Things are pretty much the same except when we sees Honerva, she is very obviously pregnant and Alfor’s there when Honerva falls and goes into labor (instead of a random quintessence seizure). Alfor and many Galran doctors try their best to save her and the baby but she dies in childbirth.

Zarkon goes ballistic. He’s yelling, throwing doctors across the room, and Alfor turns to the doctor holding Lotor and tells them to get the baby to safely, fearing Zarkon will take his grief out on the baby.

Zarkon turns on Alfor, blaming him for Honerva’s death and accusing him of letting her die so that he could get his way and close the rift. He lunges Alfor and roars at him to leave.

He spends the rest of the night grieving at Honerva’s bedside, when Kova jumps on the bed and starts gnawing on her finger trying to wake her up. This is what gives him the idea to bring her back with quintessence.

3. Her current relationship with Zarkon

I think it’s pretty safe to say that they’re relationship didn’t get better after the war began. Zarkon hid her identity and her child from her for 10,000 years and essentially used her as a tool of war. It’s pretty fucked up.

I know it’s pretty well established that Zarkon treats Haggar with more respect than his other underlings, but I feel like it would be interesting to see that change overtime. We see that after Voltron comes back, Zarkon becomes very obsessed with Voltron/Black, and he and Haggar start disagreeing more and more.

Remember the moment where one of Haggar’s druids told Zarkon Haggar said he needed to rest and Zarkon hit them with his bayard and told them, “remember who your master is”? What if, instead of a random druid, it was Haggar who he hit?

I feel like that would be a good way to show Haggar and the audience just how much Zarkon’s obsession with Voltron is affecting him, and make the audience feel a tiny bit bad for her.

Then later in season 4, when Zarkon wakes up from his coma and finds out Haggar brought Lotor back to take his place he gets pissed. He puts a price on Lotor’s head and has Haggar arrested for treason. She steals a ship, escapes, and later on meets up with Lotor’s generals.

Her and Zarkon are officially broken up and her quest to reclaim her identity and get her son back begins.

4. Oriande

I never liked the concept of chosen/sacred Alteans. The idea that some Alteans are just born more powerful than others just feels iffy. My idea of Oriande is that it’s an Altean holly land, any Altean can enter it just depends on whether or not you can pass the White Lion’s trial. Passing the trial proves that your intentions are pure and and the White Lion will bless you with power.

I didn’t like how Honerva seemed to force her way into Oriande, I think it would be more effective if she had gone through normally because, at this point, her intentions were pure. She was going there to purge herself of the dark magic corrupting her and reclaim her memories so she could go get her son back.

I also like the idea that Oriande is a sorta link to the Altean after life, and you can speak with people you’ve lost. Allura gets to speak with Alfor, and Honerva speaks with her mother.

You could also have her be confronted by the spirits of the Alteans she helped destroy. Have the weight of her past actions bear down on her. An important part of any redemption arc is acknowledging the terrible shit you’ve done in the past, and that was severely lacking in Honerva’s arc.

Another interesting thing you could do is have Honerva talk to her younger self. The one that died 10,000 years ago. This kinda thing actually happened in 80s Voltron, young Haggar appearing in Haggar’s head trying to convince her to be good again.

5. Her relationship with Lotor

Now this is where the redemption arc really falls apart. I forget who, but one of the writers said after S5 that Haggar/Honerva was motivated purely by love for her son, but man did they do a bad job of showing that.

And it would’ve been so easy to fix that problem, just have her not be horrible to him. Have them have actual civil conversations, have her protect and defend him. Don’t have her reject him as a fucking baby!

Imagine if, after Zarkon destroys Lotor’s planet, instead of immediately deciding to

exile him, Zarkon says that this is the final straw and he’s going to have Lotor executed. But Haggar speaks up to defend Him. There’s actually a scene in DOTU where Zarkon tries to kill Lotor and Haggar gets on her knees and begs for him to be spared. (Though the scene was mostly played for laughs.)

she asks for mercy and justifies it by saying it would be unwise to kill his only heir. It’s a weak argument, Lotor’s a half breed and couldn’t realistically take the throne, but Zarkon does concede, he still loves her after all, and has Lotor exiled.

And Haggar isn’t spying on him because she doesn’t trust him, but because she’s concerned for him. When Lotor confronts Haggar about sending her cronies after him, she says she knows he’s hiding something. Lotor asks if she’s threatening him, thinking she’s going to rat him out, but she says no, she’s not threatening him, she’s just trying to warn him against doing anything stupid because, with Zarkon seemingly on his death bed, the empire needs Lotor’s leadership.

At this point in the story, Haggar is questioning her loyalty to Zarkon, so I feel like it would make sense for her to be silently supporting Lotor from the shadows.

Then at the Kral Zera in season 5, It was weird to me how she was helping Lotor through Kuron while also telling him he couldn’t be emperor and trying to put Sendak on the throne. I feel like it would’ve made more sense for Sendak to just show up on his own without Haggar.

Haggar wouldn’t even be at the Kral Zera, she would just watch through Kuron.

And then we get to S6 when she actually reveals to Lotor that she’s his mom. This scene was just so poorly done. She never actually apologizes to him, she’s just like “yeah I forgot you were my kid and I never loved you, but were cool now right?” I remember when I saw S8E2 and it shows her after Lotor rejects her and she looks like she’s about to cry, I was just thinking, “this would be very emotional and sad IF she had actually apologized and made it clear that she genuinely loved him.” But she didn’t and I don’t know why!

And then we get to season 8, and of course everything in S8 is bad but Honerva’s story is particularly bad. She’s supposed to be motivated by love for Lotor yet she doesn’t act like she actually cares about him at all.

She manipulates his corpse and when she sees his gross melted body, she doesn’t even react that much. When a mother sees her child’s mutilated corpse, how do you think she reacts? Screaming? Crying?? Hurling??? But no. She’s just like, “...”

And then when she goes to the alternate reality and meets baby Lotor and he rejects her, her reaction isn’t disappointment or sadness, it’s anger and entitlement. She immediately decides, “ok, fuck this kid. Let’s destroy this reality.”

It just doesn’t make sense! This is the season you’re trying to REDEEM her! Why are you going out of your way to make her so vile?

6. Her S7-S8 plan

(Keep in mind I haven’t watched S7/S8 since they came out and barely even watched S8 to begin with, so I don’t remember some things and I can’t be bothered to rewatch them.)

Okay, starting with S7, she’s not in this season at all but in “The Ruins” the druid dude says that her final order was to hunt and destroy the Blade of Marmora. I guess it makes a certain amount of sense because she saw that it was Keith who brought Lotor’s actions to light, but that whole plot was really pointless in my opinion. (Was anybody really hoping for a rematch between Keith and that one random druid?)

If you want us to forgive Honerva for her crimes, you really shouldn’t keep adding more unnecessary crimes. It’s established that there were a lot of Galra war lords vying for power and pirates looking for money, just have it be that Kolivan got kidnapped by one of them.

Then you have her season 8 plan and I’m gonna be real with y’all, I have no idea how to fix this mess.

I feel like the basics of her plan could work. She tries to get Lotor and Sincline out of the rift but when she gets him he’s a melted corpse so the plan then becomes to use sincline to go to another reality to find a living Lotor, but opening all these rifts causes problems and the paladins have to stop her.

But all the shit with manipulating the colony Alteans, killing the White Lion, desecrating Oriande, and destroying Olkarion and entire realities, it was all so unnecessary.

Personally I would cut the colony Alteans from the story all together, there are other ways for Lotor to betray the team. It was a lazy way of making Lotor 100% evil and having Honerva manipulate them is unnecessarily cruel, especially in the season you’re trying to redeem her.

Here’s a very basic outline of how I would do this plot.

If we’re going by season 8’s logic that she needs a sacrifice to bring back Sincline, I would’ve had the Galra she killed at the Kral Zera be the sacrifice, not the White Lion. She stands on the pyramid and talks about how the empire stole her life from her and she wants revenge as she absorbs their quintessence into herself and then uses that to bring back Sincline.

Then when she finds Lotor dead she takes Sincline and uses it to go to another reality where she can be with her family.

The danger comes when she opens rifts to the other realities and rift creatures start coming out and causing damage. The paladins fight them and follow her into the rift to stop whatever evil plan she may have. Because the paladins don’t know that Haggar is now Honerva and all this is just to get Lotor back. They think this is all some plan for multiverse domination or some shit.

Meanwhile Honerva has just been rejected by little Lotor and seeing Voltron show up pushes her over the edge and they fight.

But when they find out the real reason she’s doing all this they start trying to appeal to her and convince her to give up and close the rift peacefully. And similarly to how the paladins had to sacrifice the castle to close the rifts created by the fight with Lotor, Honerva has to sacrifice herself to close the rifts.

In the end, I feel like a Honerva redemption arc could’ve worked if the writers were actually competent and actually made an effort to have her be sympathetic, but In canon, her reasoning, “If I can’t indulge in the simple joys of life, why should anybody else?” just doesn’t cut it.

It’s disappointing. VLD had so much potential. I’m thinking of just rewriting the entire series from the beginning. Hopefully putting all my thoughts out into the universe will help me move on.

I just read a great fic by aisthuu "every love story is a ghost story", didn't see it in your recs so wanted to recommend it! LWJ is a guqin composer and teacher, buys a cheap guqin off eBay which ends up being attached to WWX's spirit from canon era. It's bittersweet, LWJ deals with Lan's homophobia (implicit in a Lan way) and his feelings towards the ghost. This is author's only ao3 fic and honestly I don't remember how I stumbled upon it, but I'm happy I did and hope you will enjoy it too!  [I’ve recently read this one, and loved it!]

Ok so I absolutely have to rec "see you yesterday" by glyphic. It's a wip, but it's currently at 101k so there's a whole lot there, and it's terrible and wonderful and beautiful all at once. The way the backstory of canon events is adapted to the modern-with-cultivation setting is brilliant, and then there's the amnesia, and then there's the time loop. This fic lives permanently rent-free in my brain.

“Hey guys.” You smile into the camera, as you lean your phone against your water bottle. “We’re extremely bored, so we decided to come on here and answer some questions.”

You look over to your girlfriend, encouraging her to say something.

“(Y/N) practically forced me to do this.” Christen rolls her eyes, hiding a grin.

You playfully push her shoulder, laughing. “Don’t even lie, Chris. You love interacting with the fans, plus you were bored out of your mind.”

At that, Christen can only smirk, knowing you were right.

The two of you had been dating for almost four years now and lived together in an apartment in Seattle during the offseason. When COVID first hit, before lockdown was enforced, Christen quickly got on the first flight from Utah, so that the two of you could quarantine together. Now, almost 5 months later, the two of you were going slightly insane. Although you loved spending time with each other, especially considering the NWSL season often separated you two, not being able to go out was causing you to go a little stir crazy.

“Alright,” you clap your hands and scroll through the incoming comments, “let’s see what kind of questions you guys have.”

“Oh, there’s one.” Christen squints, pointing to one of the recurring questions. “How did the two of you meet?”

“Oh, this is a funny story.” You chuckle. “Well, we met in college, and we actually met in our Philosophy class before we even met on the team.”

Before you can continue to tell the story, Christen interrupts you, her cheeks flushed. “Nooooo. Please don’t tell this story. It’s so embarrassing.”

“Awww,” You coo, pinching her cheeks, “it was adorable, babe.”

Your girlfriend pouts and crosses her arms, as you start again. “So, basically, our professor had assigned seats, but Ms. Press over here didn’t know that. So, I go to sit in my seat only to find that someone else was sitting there, and I say to her, ‘I think you’re in my seat,’ and she looks up at me and said… what did you say to me?” You look over at your blushing girlfriend with a teasing glint in your eye.

Christen covers her face with her hands and mumbles out something.

“I’m sorry, what was that?” You lean in closer.

The older forward removes her hands. “I said, ‘Your seat? This can be your seat if you give me your number.”

At that, you throw your head back and burst out laughing. Looking back at your phone, you see a flood of comments from many of your national team teammates.

“Ha! Megan said, ‘That doesn’t sound like the Pressy I know.’” You turn back to your girlfriend and poke her side. “Yeah, that was a pretty bold move for you.”

“I thought you were beautiful, and I didn’t know if I’d see you again, so I thought, why not?” Christen shrugs.

“Awwww, babe. You thought I was beautiful?” You give her a wet kiss on her cheek.

“You still are.” She grumbles, wiping her face. You feel your cheeks warm and your heart melt, and you give her a quick kiss.

“Love you.”

“Love you too.” Christen responds, before looking at the incoming questions. “Hmmm, okay, next question. Let’s see… oh, here’s one: (Y/N), what’s your favorite thing about me?”

“Is that really a question, or do you just want me to boost your ego?” You raise your eyebrow skeptically.

“It’s an actual question!” Christen insists, gesturing to the phone.

You breathe out a laugh. “Okay, uhhhhh, do you mean like favorite physical feature or favorite personality trait…?” You trail off, and Christen slaps your shoulder.

“Stop stalling!”

“Alright, alright.” You throw your hands up in innocence. “Well, I’ll just answer both. My favorite physical feature of my gorgeous girlfriend would have to be her smile. It literally just lights up my entire world and is just so infectious.”

As you answer, a wide smile breaks out on your girlfriend’s face.

“See what I mean.” You find yourself grinning, fondly admiring the woman you love. “And, my favorite personality trait of Christen would have to be… hmmm, this one is difficult because I just love everything about her.” You honestly admit.

“Aw, babe, I love you, too.” Christen’s face softens, and she pulls you in for a tender kiss. “But answer the question.”

“Ahhh, okay!” You chuckle. It takes you a couple of seconds to come up with a succinct answer, but you finally find the words to an answer. “I wouldn’t say that I have a favorite trait, but one thing that I appreciate about Christen is her huge heart. She is just so compassionate and caring for everyone around her, and she’s so selfless, just always giving. She has so much love in her heart, and I’m just so lucky that she’s shared some with me.”

Your voice cracks at the end, as you start getting a little emotional, and you can see Christen discreetly wiping her eyes.

Clearing your throat, you look back at the comments, and you smile, as the forward mouths an ‘I love you.’

By now, there are many comments from fans saying ‘They’re so cute!’ or ‘MY SHIP’ or even ‘my heart can’t take this.’ You scroll through them and spot a few from your teammates.

You let out a small laugh at your best friend’s comment. “What’s your question, Kel?”

You and Christen wait a couple of seconds for the defender to type out her question. Amidst the hundreds comments, you finally see Kelley’s name pop up again. 

“Kelley says, ‘(Y/N), is it true that you had a crush on someone while at Stanford?’” Christen reads from the screen, before turning to glare at you.

You cringe under the scrutiny of your girlfriend. “Wow, Kel, are you trying to get me in trouble?” You mutter out.

“Answer the question, (Y/N).” Christen pushes, jealousy seeping through her voice. Throughout your time at Stanford, the two of you had been best friends, telling each other everything, but Christen had never been aware of any crush you’d had.

“Ummm… well there was this one girl that I really liked.” You trail off, avoiding your girlfriend’s eyes.

“Really?” Christen raises her eyebrow at you.

“Yeah, but I was too nervous to do anything about it.” You shrug, not wanting to elaborate anymore, but the forward wasn’t going to let you off the hook that easily.

“Who was it? Do I know her?”

“Chris, it’s not that big of a deal. This was like ten years ago.”

“Was it Ali? Morgan? Lea? Oh my gosh, was it Kelley?” Christen interrogates, as you shake your head to each of them.

“Ew, Chris, you think I had a crush on Kelley. She’s like my sister!” You gag at the mental image.

“Well, then who was it?” She wines.

“It was you.” You admit. Although the two of you met at Stanford, and Christen so boldly asked for your number, you hadn’t started dating until four years ago, as neither of you wanted to ruin your friendship.

“What?” Christen’s eyes widen.

“I had a huge crush on you when we were in college. From the moment that you were sitting in my seat, I knew you were the one, as cheesy as that sounds. And as we spent more time together, on and off the pitch, my feelings grew stronger and stronger, but I didn’t know if you felt the same, so I never told you. I didn’t want to lose you as a friend.” You reveal, rambling on.

“Seriously?” Christen whispers, and you nod.

“Dead serious, babe.”

Not knowing what to say, your girlfriend cups your face and brings you in for a sweet kiss.

Before the kiss could get too heated on camera, Christen pulls away. “By the way, I had a little crush on you in college as well.”

“Hm, really?” You smirk.

Good things that have happened this weekend:

1. I managed to call my bank and got an issue sorted out (it was a minor thing and took like, 2 mins to figure out lol) and the ppl at my bank are always super nice and helpful :) (it was a misunderstanding but I originally thought the last job I did didn’t pay me, and the person I talked to was getting heated abt it on my behalf and that was very nice even tho that turned out not to be the issue ahah 😭)

2. I had two different really nice convos with cashiers at stores. With the first person we talked abt loz which. I’ve had on my brain a lot and always love talking abt 😭 and the second one we talked abt fashion which is another topic I love (specifically we were taking abt wacky unique fashion omg they told me they saw someone w little babydoll earrings and I WANT some…)

3. yesterday I got to go to a relatives house and pet and hold some chickens they have and hang out with one of my baby cousins briefly, and that was really fun bc she’s like 5 and was excitedly showing me all her lil toys 😭 the chicks I held were soo small and I could feel their lil heartbeats and I about CRIED. Babies… (I also held their hamster and pet the cat and we saw a lot of cows, donkeys, horses and dogs on the drive there since it’s farm land…and u kno I had my window rolled down screaming joyfully to them all that I love them)

4. today me and my mom tie dyed some shirts and a hoodie and it’s my first time doing that so I’m very excited to see how they turn out!! Hopping they look cool, we just kinda did scrunching instead of actual twisty patterns or anything fancy, but I am excited anyway! It’ll be a few more hours until they’re done but I’m like 👀

5. it’s been warming up here and it’s sooo sunny and nice out today ☺️ I’m so ready and excited for spring!!! My fav season!!!

6. My mom made a delicious pineapple upside down cake and I had it for breakfast and there is no better breakfast than a Cake Slice. But I also made an omelette and had a breakfast for lunch situation and it was just about the most picturesque omelette I have ever made, it was BEAUTIFUL (and tasted very very good)

7. Drinking out of the mug one of my bffs sent me and it’s so cute and the perfect size 🥺 it’s def my new favorite mug ❤️

8. I managed to finish a drawing! Nothing huge or with a bg, but it’s so nice to get over my art block a bit. Going to wait a while to post it since I’d like my latest drawing to be at the top of my art blog for a while, but I’m proud of myself for managing to draw!

Unpopular opinion: kinda wish we got more time for jester introspection/inner conflict in the travelercon arc? it got kinda wrapped up pretty neatly and i do wish we could've gotten more conflict. i do like that her friendship w artagan was reaffirmed in the end, but idk i do wish there were some more challenges thrown her way in that regard and that would make it all the more satisfying to see her rise above it all and fight for her beliefs and win in the end. also ngl some of the shipping discourse i see is Weird and im just gonna leave it at that. also there's more to jester's humor than d!ck jokes and i kinda don't like how one-note it all started to become in the later episodes

A wish: continuing from the first point in the unpopular opinion section, would have LOVED to see the timeline where the traveler actually was taken to the feywild and jester turned to the moonweaver for help. while her faith in artagan is definitely strong in canon i feel like that kind of arc would have made her faith feel even STRONGER. also i wanna see her feywild adventures

OZPIN

Ozpin for the RWBY character asks.

My top three ships for the character

Note: For these ships, I’m exclusively talking about gray-haired Professor Ozpin, and I’ve long written Oz to be at least somewhat affected by the age of his hosts, I’ve long written him to be around the same age as Ironwood and Qrow (I mean, he looks the same age and I missed Raven’s lines suggesting he was a teacher or headmaster when Team STRQ was in school,) and I’ve also long headcanoned that when he first hosted in Ozpin, the person he was hosting in chose to merge with him right away. So while he was Ozpin, there was no ‘Ozpin talks sometimes, Oz talks sometimes,’ or sharing a head. I’ve never done much shipping for Oz, but all that kind of lines up to at least make that version of him pretty shippable.

So yeah, Ozpin/Glynda could be a power couple of wholly devoted, tired, stressed caregivers trying to mentor sixty some kids at once. XD Ozpin/Amber has literally no real content, but they could look good together and she’s a non-character like Summer, but I see them as having had a lot of similarities in being kind and soft spoken. I also don’t mind Ozpin/Roman as a ‘once upon a time, Roman used to flirt with him all the time before anything went bad and Ozpin responded with amused tolerance and never really took it seriously, but a lot of their acquaintances thought they were seeing each other... Which would just make it hurt worse and be one more thing Oz blames himself for when Roman falls into a life of crime, 

My three least favorite ships for the character

Oz/Cinder, as previously stated, once someone kills someone, there’s no coming back from it. Also, he doesn’t need to get romantic advancements from any abusive manipulative magic girl who just wants to use and hurt him and abuses children on the side too. Oz/Hazel. Hazel is an abuser! He beat Oz! He blamed Oz for things that weren’t his fault and used him as an excuse for all his vile actions. Gross. And Oz/Salem takes the top spot for very obvious reasons. This one’s even more gross than Oz/Hazel.

My biggest criticism for the character

Honestly, the way he’s treated by the narrative of the show with much less sympathy than he should be. I love flawed characters, leaders that do their best but make lots of mistakes, but the narrative treated him as one hundred percent in the wrong, no discussion, and therefore deserving of Qrow hitting him (out of character moment!) and Team RWBY ripping his secrets from him forcibly, making him relive his trauma in high def, yelling at him and then being glad he was gone, and not wanting him back and then only begrudgingly and seriously accepting his apology (out of character, especially for Blake!) Especially since Ruby also didn’t have a plan and lied about potentially life saving information to an ally and then even when she made her broadcast to the world, she left out tons of information there too! Which, don’t get me wrong, is understandable for her, but the narrative should’ve recognized that she was doing the same things Ozpin did and they should’ve had her gain sympathy and understanding for him. And the narrative also gave credence to Hazel somehow, treating it seriously when he warns Oscar ‘no more Gretchens’ despite Hazel being a super abusive, murderous bastard who was trying to murder kids and making the world a worse place. I’ve had so many people tell me ‘Team RWBY are going to apologize to Ozpin and realize they were wrong to treat him the way they did,’ but it never happened. Because the writers wanted us to think of Oz as a morally gray person who had to be taught a lesson by Team RWBY, rather than an abuse victim who deserved some sympathy and understanding who shouldn’t have been abused again just for making a mistake. I don’t know why the writers thought pretending Team RWBY and Qrow were in the right would be okay, but I hate it.

My favorite thing about the character

I love Oz so much, but my favorite thing about him might be his dynamic with Qrow in seasons 3-5. Of course it all went bad in season 6, but I love a close friends, almost brothers dynamic where one does everything for the other and is wholly devoted to him, would die for him at the drop of a hat. And I love a mentor-father figure always throwing himself into protecting a kid and leaning on his shoulder while the kid is nervous, but excited and happy over it and wanting his affection and approval... And with Oz (and the headcanon that he’s affected by the age of his host,) I get both! There’s a lot more to love, but that’s my favorite thing. God, they flourish in fan fictions...

A headcanon I have about them

I already touched on some of my headcanons for him and his host, but also...‘Ozpin’ was that host’s last name, and his first name was actually Orpheus, but his team in Beacon and his inner circle only ever called him by his last name.

What I would change about them if I was making a re-write

Okay, so hear me out, I’d still have people get mad at him for all his secret keeping and having no plan to defeat Salem, and I’d probably still have him temporarily retreat. But A. I wouldn’t have the punch, and instead, I’d have Qrow more ‘quietly disappointed’ than anything else and he’d regret it almost immediately and feel guilty about it (even though in that case, his feelings would be valid,) and B. Blake would be on Ozpin’s side. Seriously, Blake knows what abuse feels like, she knows it’s hard to trust after, she knows Oz has been through worse, even more than she can imagine. She should’ve been standing up for him, saying that even though he was wrong to lie, she gets why. And C. I’d have the people who have a harder time understanding and especially Ruby learn and grow and start to realize how much weight was on his shoulders while they make many of the same mistakes. D. I’d have Ozpin start coming back in V7, and apologize to Qrow in private (and have Qrow apologize back,) and then I’d have him mostly silent, ‘coming out to talk’ only really to James or Qrow and communicating through Oscar when the need calls for it, and he’d kind of step down and let James (and kind of, Ruby) make the choices for the group. Ruby at the very least would apologize to him by the end of the seventh season. And I’d totally still have him kidnapped and taken to Salem because I love that sweet sweet whump, but I’d have Hazel die like the unredeemed asshole he was and I think I’d have Qrow involved in the rescue somehow.

What I I think of their character allusion and what (if anything) I would change about it

Oz acts as both the Wizard of Oz and the Princess Ozma character merged into one allusion, and I honestly think some of it is really cleverly done. The Wizard of Oz had arrived in Oz and was treated as a god, and decided to lean into it due to Oz’s lack of current leadership and used his magician tricks to make it seem like he had magic (reflecting Oz agreeing to Salem making them seem like gods by using what was - in their world - perfectly ordinary magic, which Oz did in an attempt to grant leadership to a world he was tasked with improving.) The Wizard is treated as a king in Oz and is presented as a magic infallible solution to all of Dorothy (and her group’s) problems, only for that to be proven to not be the case, as he can only grant temporary pacifying placebos (reflecting Oz’s attempts to keep Salem back and present a false time of peace to the world while fighting a secret war that he has no plan to be able to end.) The wizard temporarily leaves the Land of Oz only to return to it later (like Ozpin dying only to come back,) and when he returns, he acts as a guide to Dorothy and dumps plot exposition about his origins (guiding the kids, the Lost Fable,) and is then permitted to remain in the Land of Oz by a magic girl who is the true leader (reflective of Ruby and the group ‘graciously’ letting him stay in their group.) Then, there’s Princess Ozma, the extremely benevolent and kind ageless fairy princess, descended from a long line of fairy princess’s, who is the rightful ruler of the land of Oz. Princess Ozma was friendly to outsiders and disliked violence, preferring peaceful solutions to conflict, and when she was first introduced in the books, it was while trapped in the body of a young boy named ‘Tip’ with no recollection of the life as Princess Ozma. I think all of that pretty obviously lines up with Ozma/Ozpin the RWBY character really well! I don’t mind this conjoined character allusion. I’m actually pretty dang fond of this one, I think this (along with Sun) is one of the few well done character allusions in RWBY.

1. what is one thing you wish more neurotypicals understood about adhd?

That it’s not just a childhood disorder! ADHD kids become ADHD adults! And it has serious consequences if left untreated!

2. a hot take/untalked about issue about adhd that deserves more attention?

According to the book Taking Charge of Adult ADHD by Dr Russell Barkely, the criteria in the DSM (pre-DSM V at least?) was written with children in mind. Adult ADHDers may present a bit differently, and they symptom threshold is slightly lower. He even said that a lot of studies supported that an adult could have a minimum of 4 out the 9 symptoms in either category and still count for a diagnosis.

Anxiety, seasonal depression, OCD

4. what is ur adhd subtype?

Ok, official diagnosis is ADHD-C, but I think they’re focusing too hard on my childhood presentation of symptoms. I was def combined as a kid, but I only have like 2 hyperactive symptoms, at most, as an adult. So I’d say that I’m inattentive type.

Nope, lmao.

Welllll, plenty of people have Opinions about ADHD I’ll tell you hwat..... but one of the most notable? My mom believes, or used to believe, that it’s a made up disorder to sell pills. I would probably have been diagnosed as a kid if she didn’t have that mindset.

Yes, was diagnosed at age 24 in 2018.

12. do any of your relatives have adhd?

My bio father was diagnosed with ADHD at age 6! This was like.... in the 1970′s. Honestly, I suspect my mom has it, too. She’s always losing things! And is always late for everything! And she says that my grandma was just like that, too!

To a degree, yes. I think I experience sensory overload at work. When it’s busy and crowded, I feel physically unwell. Like my body is buzzing. It’s terrible. I also can’t wear socks, they are uncomfortable!! The texture feels bad on my skin!!

16. i can’t believe i almost forgot this question do you take meds, and what is your relationship with meds (whether you’re on them or not)?

Looking into medication! I want to see if they’ll help me.

Honestly..... knowing that I have such a hard time dealing with anything without external structure. And feeling like it’s very likely I’ll end up homeless one day, because of that. It’s classified as a developmental disability for good reason.

Well, it’s not all bad, for sure. I think it makes me who I am! I would be a completely different person without it! My mind is funny, too.

B: Any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

ooph uhhh. uhhhh, well, i’ve mentioned it like once, but too far was very deeply personal for me? i almost didn’t post it because i was like okay, i’m getting freakishly real here, but then i read it over a few times, tweaked some details...took out some scenes, added new ones, and then i realized that like. i still wanted to talk about this particular issue, because i was. i don’t know. i found some other fics about this topic and some of them were brutally real (a little too real), but i never felt like there was a happy resolution? or a healing resolution? and for me, i want to write stories that make people feel like there’s still some hope left, so i was like, “well. i’ll make the first story about this topic that’s kind of about...getting better in the end.” 

F: Care to share a favorite hurt/comfort fic?

oh god. so many. so  many. but uhhh, here, let me just: 

regeneration by @pandora15 was one of the first clone wars h/c fics i read last year when i was getting back into writing fic, and hnnng, i remember reading it on a really bad day and being. very touched. very good. spoke to me on a spiritual level and i still go back to it when i am. anxious. 

a long way down by @kckenobi makes me feel way too many things. anakin trying to climb up a cliffside with an injured obi-wan. lots of desperate “i’m not letting go of you so shut up” feelings. i was sitting in the library and quietly shrieking into my hands because what what what. lots of beautiful lines, a+, i cry at the ending every single time!!!

four in the morning, we find ourselves here by curseofmen. anakin, obi-wan, and ahsoka sleep together. anakin manages to drag obi-wan into bed. obi-wan’s in the middle, and cody finds them all in the end, and they’re absolutely adorable and soft, and i cry every time because they’re so soft, your honor, and i love them. 

obligate by @communistkenobi. i just finished reading this fic (like literally this morning), and i’m still recovering?? deception au but make it anakin fakes his death instead of obi-wan. angst. so much fuckign angst. obi-wan does the reckless thing. ahsoka says “fuck off” at one point and i’m losing it over here. the reunion made me w e e p. also anakin gets everyone hammered. also anakin and obi-wan. also ahsoka and anakin and obi-wan group hug. gimme a second. 

K: What's the angstiest idea you've ever come up with?

,,,is it weird for me to say that i don’t think i’ve come up with my angstiest idea yet? because i have certainly written angsty fics and angsty scenes, but i still don’t think i’ve peaked yet. b u t, that being said, there’s this fic idea i have that kinda came to me last night, and i think it’s pretty angsty. (,,,obi-wan, anakin, and ahsoka all running into each other post season 5. kinda sad, kinda funny, but mostly sad, because anakin and obi-wan were trying to catch down some crook, but they both got injured and as luck would have it, they run into ahsoka. in the rain. of all things. ahsoka’s like “oh man oh fuck oh why” but of course she helps them, and of course she lugs them back to her apartment, and of course anakin and obi-wan pass out, and of course there’s just. a lot of pain in this fic. i’m very excited to actually write it and share it with everyone, because lol pain :))))

okay, so i’ve definitely written a few death fics, like holes with @kckenobi (major sad. big sad. we used a lot of humor to cope, including “wait we could call this fic ‘holes’ because obi-wan has a hole in his heart where anakin used to be :)))” and “oh wait anakin can’t do that because hE’S DEAD HAHAHAAA” help) 

and then i also wrote known, which uh. uhhh lawless au where satine lives but uh. y’all can figure it out.

if i’m being honest, major character death is something that i can’t always read/write, though--so if i ever do have a major character death, then i try to put a lot of actual time and effort into it because like?? you know. major character. better send them off well. 

i guess if there’s a character that i cannot stand the death of, it’s probably ahsoka’s? i don’t know, in my head, i always think, ahsoka has to live. maybe because she’s the youngest of the tcw trio or maybe because just?? ahsoka tano as a whole is just so super symbolic to tcw fans and i lived through the time in fandom when everyone was speculating about how/when ahsoka was gonna die while tcw was still airing. (let me tell you. let me tell you,,,whenever our baby got too close to danger, every instinct in me would be like, dave filoni if you kill my child, i’m gonna break into your house.) so i guess because of that, i can’t really bring myself to ever even speculate writing/reading an ahsoka deathfic. she’s alive. she’s immortal, i don’t care what anyone else says. :)

8. kevin daly ||  kevin from work || this show isn’t perfect of course, and we all know noah didn’t exactly have the time of his life filming it, but in spite of all that, i do enjoy him in this role. a lot of times i find guys who continue to chase their dream girls after being rejected to be pretty off-putting, but kevin [mostly] isn’t actively pursuing audrey so much as just trying to survive his days with as little awkwardness as possible, which is much more endearing. he’s a good guy, infused with this little undercurrent of sadness that noah plays really well. now if he could just figure out that brian is actually the person he should be with, we’d be golden

7. farley gordon || score: a hockey musical || how can you not love this nerdy, singing, organic wool sweater-wearing, seventeen-year-old, hockey-playing pacifist?

6. sam || house of lies - tragedy of the commons || sam’s in a boy band, wants happiness more than money, and gets as romantic as a dave & busters will allow. he’s upset that conner, one of the other boy band members, has become a giant asshole, and tbh i’m pretty sure it’s mostly because sam’s secretly in love with him. also, he gets to wear this floral bomber and kiss kristen bell, which... #goals

5. owen || lay over || 10/10 would spend the night exploring any layover city with this cute and amiable accordion player (and be very tempted not to leave in the morning)

4. marshall wheeler || strange days at blake holsey high || this is where i originally know noah from--my college roommate, my boyfriend, and i would watch this show in my dorm room between afternoon classes, and marshall was always my favorite. he’s actually kind of like a young patrick brewer--smart, caring, musically talented, sometimes not as open with the people he cares about as he could be, at one point attempts to start his own business... bb noah is a cutie, and it’s a fun time if you’re into shows about teenage canadian science club members at a boarding school built on top of a wormhole, lolol

3. matt || people hold on || matty is... a bit of a mess. he wears 6 different shirts in less than 48 hours, and aside from just trying to have a good time with his friends, he doesn’t really know what he’s doing or what he wants out of life, which is honestly so very relatable. yes, he’s a bit bro-y, but he’s also emotionally vulnerable in that way noah does so particularly well. also, matt and dan def used to date, and no one is gonna convince me otherwise

2. ryan || backpackers || ryan is an aspiring writer who’s a bit anxious but also funny and charming and in the process of learning to be more adventurous, and he’s much more of a romantic than the premise of s1 might suggest. and look i know i have said this same basic thing about several of these characters, but he is definitely in love with his best friend in this one. s1 gives us great curl content, and s2 gives us... well... the scene in this gif, which is more than worth the whole watch, but the entire season is a pretty good time and noah looks so beautiful throughout it

1. stock burton || old stock || where do i even start? stock is so very polite and gentle and kind, while also still so haunted by his past. he’s endearingly anachronistic and loves a good sweater vest. he wants to fix the things he can and hide away from the things he can’t, and he’s so accepting of other people and their mistakes but so much less accepting of himself and his own, and he doesn’t realize how badly he’s in need of a friend or a push out of his comfort zone until both come along, and i just have a LOT of feelings about him and have honestly cried about it multiple times. i love him so much. he deserves the entire world

bi-weekly update

it sure has been a wild time here and tbh I had enough to do one of these last week and just. didn’t?? for some reason?? anyway

listening: the Promare soundtrack went on sp*tify recently so I’ve been on Promare soundtrack lockdown over here. I know Kakusei is the iconic Promare song but Inferno (the opening song) always makes me tear up??? love to experience emotions about a movie in a reasonable and normal way. so anyway my standout track from the OST is Piromare because I am so very not immune to sad soft piano renditions of a motif that is usually triumphant/cheerful/etc

reading: I have, for once, read a bunch of books. I got a giftcard to my favorite local indie bookshop for Christmas and finally got around to using it to buy two books I’d been looking forward to, Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson (bi polyam Dracula retelling, kind of) and Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell (gay arranged marriage space opera)

Dowry of Blood was very satisfying to me, someone who has lots of opinions about how vampires ought to be sexy and also terrifying, and I really enjoyed this specific take on vampire lore. also the formatting/pagination was really really cool and reminded me more of poetry books than prose usually does. for the first couple of pages there’s only text on one side of the page and then there’s one line on the back of a page and it hits really hard. extremely good and cool printing choices. would def recommend, but it is also explicitly an exploration of getting into and then out of an abusive relationship so. warnings for that in addition to the murder/blood warnings

also look at how sick this cover is (by Marlowe Lune, an artist whose work I really like in general)

I previously read Winter’s Orbit when it was on ao3 as an original work (called Course of Honour) and it was really cool to read a familiar story that I uh. read several times on ao3 but with added layers, because the author added a bunch of worldbuilding and an entire overarching higher-stakes political plot. I really really liked the added worldbuilding, and for the most part I enjoyed the new plot stuff, though at times I felt like it distracted from what I liked the most about the original, and there was one specific scene that was taken out that I was disappointed about. fave thing about the worldbuilding is when something is referred to by normal familiar words (like pigeons or bears) and then the actual thing is like, a fucking dinosaur that only vaguely resembles the word that’s used for it. very fun

also slightly mixed feelings about the framing of empire in the book, since there is some discussion about the consequences of imperialism and the resolution of the plot involves getting more rights and political sway for colonized planets. but the majority of the plot is about preserving an unjust status quo, and the representative of one of the colonized planets is working for the interests of the empire so that they can appear unified in the face of a larger-scale potential threat, which I’m not sure I love. and I also didn’t really care for the way the resistance movement (whenever it came up, which wasn’t often) was portrayed. so. on one hand yes there is a message of ‘empire bad and we should maybe try to be less Like That’ but on the other hand sometimes it did feel like the imperialism was an under-examined backdrop for a romance. like don’t get me wrong, I love the romance, I love the characters, it’s just that some of the politics didn’t quite do it for me and I think I just wanted More of things that just. weren’t the focus of the story

warnings for discussions of abusive relationships in this one, except this time it’s backstory for one of the characters, not something that’s present in the central relationship. and for all of the things that I wasn’t quite satisfied with, the parts of the book that are about like, learning how to be a person again after being in a situation where you’re not allowed to be yourself are still very well-handled and hit me real hard.

I also read a whole bunch of KJ Charles because sometimes all my brain can handle is marathoning romance novels, but I’m not gonna talk about all of them because this is already long enough (have not read the new one that came out today yet though that’s what I’m gonna do after this)

watching: Supernatural season 13 is incredibly boring and bad in ways that aren’t interesting or fun to talk about so I haven’t watched any recently. I did watch the first episode of Lupin, and really enjoyed it! will definitely watch more, though slowly because it takes too much of my brain to marathon it, partially because I know just enough French to almost not need the subtitles but having to read and also automatically trying to translate as I’m listening takes more brain energy. love a good heist though, and it has some good social commentary on race and class and crime

also the main character is very good. fucking superb you funky gentleman thief

playing: still making my way through the last mission of Knife of Dunwall. I made a bunch of progress since I whined at my friend about how hard it was and they told me to just stay in the building that has places to hide (the one you have to make your way through as Corvo, so I already know the layout, which helps lol) instead of the one that’s falling apart with nowhere to hide. who would have thought.

have also watched my roommate play lots of games and have thoughts on those too. Final Fantasy games (or at least the ones I’ve seen anything from, which is 7, 14, and 15) really appeal to me on a character/aesthetic/plot level but the gameplay looks like it would be bad for my brain. and yes all of those have very different gameplay but they would all be not fun for me in different ways. my roommate showed me like an hour of cutscenes from 14 last night that was basically a movie of tropes I love but holy shit I could never play a game where I have to wait for other people to be ready to also play the same part of the game before I can advance the plot

they’ve also been playing Persona 5 Scramble/Strikers (I don’t know which one the S stands for and at this point I’m too afraid to ask), which I do intend to play myself some day. it’s a sequel to Persona 5 with the same characters and damn they really nailed the feeling of seeing your friends again after not seeing them for a while, both in terms of. I care about these characters and am happy to see them again and also, they haven’t seen the protagonist in a while and they’re so happy he’s back and it makes me very soft. would love to reunite with friends whom I haven’t seen in a while

making: haven’t worked on cosplay but we did make some very tasty tortellini soup last weekend, and then last night we made fish & chips which was a lot easier than I was expecting and turned out pretty well? we just used frozen fries instead of like. frying them ourselves but we did make some very tasty lemon-garlic green beans

writing: well. I have a couple of things I’ve been noodling away at for a bit, and then a couple days ago I had a little bit of a breakdown and wrote 3000 words of angst in one sitting for an entire different new fic (Persona boys having a miserable time), and then yesterday decided to get in on a thing in The Untamed fandom of people writing short ““boring”“ domestic oneshots, and I love domesticity so I wrote one, which various reviewers have called “very sweet” and “a callout post” (it is both of those things)

I’m also organizing an event for P5 trans content because someone was shitty to one of my roommates over a trans headcanon and I got so pissed off that I’m running a prompt week now. love to have reasonable emotional reactions to things that happen in my life. why would I think about my actual problems when I could get petty and spiteful over someone saying that a fictional character couldn’t possibly be trans

1) Someone to Stay

this is definitely my favorite entrapdak fic! it’s only a one shot, but it’s about 8k words even though i planned for it to be much less xD it was my first entrapdak fic, too! it’s kinda funny to look back on because i was so scared to post it since i was new to the fandom. but, it was well received, which was super encouraging :D and now i’m pretty involved in the fandom! :)

Hordak knows his lab partner well enough by now, so he’s quick to notice Entrapta’s sudden shift in behavior. Less loud talking, less jumping around here and there with her hair, less excitement and liveliness.

And while he initially tries to ignore it all and let whatever spell had taken over her pass, that doesn't exactly work out as planned when the sanctum suddenly goes dead silent one day.

2) Change of Plans

anddd this is probably my favorite detroit: become human fic! i wrote it out on a whim during quarantine (i even remember drinking whipped coffee while i wrote it, remember that trend?) and i really like how it all turned out! the perfect amount of angst and hurt/comfort for my fav hank and connor duo <3

Maybe his breakfast isn’t a gourmet meal, and maybe it’s way too early for his liking, but at least it’s somewhat peaceful in his house. Sure, there’s the roaring blizzard outside, and the occasional groan of his house as the framework shudders under the wind’s force. But still, it’s calm inside. Normally Connor would be bright and chipper even at this early hour, blabbering about something or another and-

Wait.

Connor.

Hank straightens up in his seat, suddenly wide awake.

Connor isn’t anywhere in sight.

A one shot in which Hank wakes up early one morning to a blizzard raging on outside and a quiet home devoid of his partner.

That is, until he finds the bathroom with the door shut tight.

3) Stuck in the Past

i have a love/hate relationship with this fic, but i gotta include it because it’s def my biggest fanfic accomplishment! i love it because it’s the first fic i ever posted, it’s super long, AND i never gave up on it, but i hate it because the beginning has SUCH bad style and i definitely included some plot points that were just plain rediculous that with wish i never included xD plus, it’s got some really angsty themes that i wish i had toned back on a bit, but overall the ending is happy so i’m glad i finished it!

Connor, ever since he became deviant and had escaped from Amanda’s clutches, felt safe, content, and in control. After all, he lived happily with Hank and his dog after Markus and the androids led a peaceful protest. What was there to be concerned about, anyway?

That was what Connor believed until, however, a nightmare led him think otherwise. With new thoughts of feeling as if he could lose control of his program to Amanda yet again and become a danger to Hank, Connor can’t help the rising worry within him. And while he tries his hardest to hide his fears from Hank, that plan may not work out exactly as he hopes.

4) Brightest Star

ok so this fic isn’t finished yet and i started it JUST at the end of last year, but so far i like how it’s coming along and i’m so excited to write all of it! when i first joined the entrapdak community, i promised myself i wasn’t gonna write a multi chapter fic more than a few chapters, but i just love hordak and entrapta so much that i HAVE to write a longfic about them. so, here we are, 6 chapters in! :)

After all of the chaos of the war, Hordak is now free. Well, from Horde Prime, that is. The princesses certainly don’t think so, and they don’t appear too keen on allowing him to be anytime soon.

Except for Entrapta. Through everything, she stays there by his side, remaining as a comforting constant amidst this new and unfamiliar life post war. And Hordak, of course, greatly enjoys her companionship.

...More so than he realizes, it seems.

5) ‘Dating’

this was the second entrapdak fic i wrote, and i really like it! it’s kind of funny because i wrote this back when i didn’t want to fully commit to a longfic but still wanted to include some shippy slow burn stuff, so it’s about 3 chapters at 10k! it was also my first time writing something that was pretty shippy, so it was a fun learning experience for me!

Some notes on my Legends of Metru Nui rewatch I did half-asleep

I watched the finnish dub so first voice impressions. The voice direction was good but the dialogue translation wasn’t always the best (more on that later) Lhikans, Mataus, Nujus and Dumes voices were much better/more fitting than the english ones, with Lhikan probably having my favorite voice in the entire movie (Matau close second btw). Makuta and Vakamas were sliightly better in finnish than in english but the english ones were really good as well so I’m not sure. Whenuas was on par with his english one, but still great. Nidhikis voice was quite good but I go back and forth whether or not I prefer it over his english one (I THINK I do but he suffered the most of the translation issues, more on that later) . On paper I prefer Krekkas finnish voice BY A LONGSHOT but the way his voice was directed was really strange and uneven so left a bit sour taste in my mouth. I didn’t really like Nokamas that much for some reason (tho its funny that her VA voiced Jessie from Pokemon in the first few seasons here). She and Onewa were the only ones where I can say for certain I prefer their voices in english by a mile

Also fun fact: In the finnish dub Whenua and Makuta share voice actors, ditto with Nidhiki and Nuju (Lhikans VA also voiced Sidorak in Web Of Shadows)

Now for the movie itself: I love the story it wants to tell of six heroes raising to the odds against them in a deceptively dystopian society and find the heroism in them in absence of a hero. I also do think its a decent kids movie but I do feel the movie suffers from tonal inconsistency as well as some pacing issues (kinda)

Out of all the movies I feel LOMN is the one thats the most “THIS IS A PART OF A LARGER STORY” for me. While the stuff thats only in the books isn’t mandatory (and I think it was right move to cut it) the movie feels like it happened in a day which honestly REALLY makes suspension of disbelief hard for me (I mean this is a scifi/fantasy story with a robot cast but I digress.)

While the movie has a decent “flow” a lot of time it suffers from like...feeling a bit rushed. There isn’t always time to breathe. THIS ESPECIALLY is true with characters. Like I get a big part of thismovie is Vakamas character arc but with how many othe r characters we have to juggle the movie kinda, pushes him aside when the other toas learn their powers and then “WAIT HE GOTTADO STUFF TOO” at the climax

The main issue for me is by far the tonal issues.The movie tries to be both a fun action movie and a darker more somber tale but just... It doesn’t always really do the darkness well.  Sometimes the scenes just are too silly and the dialgoue too direct and/or wooden for it to work as it was intended.

This is where I bring up the finnish translation. Like while it is faithful some parts were translated in a really silly way that made it hard for me to take the movie serious. Like for instance, during the “Lhikan gets attacked by the Dark Hunters at furnace” when Nidhiki holds Vakama hostage to get Lhikan surrender he says “hi there brother” instead of just “brotherrrr” like in the original version that just made me cringe out of second hand embarassment. The movie has a lot of a bit silly stuff like this. Could be because of my language but still.

Speaking of action??? Is it weird that for an action movie Bionicle has very little fighting. Like sure there is some but a lot of time the characters just, dodge each others attacks. There’s also the fact no one uses weapons instead launching energy weapons around. I wonder if this was mandated by LEGO, considering MOL did something similar (Kohlii match of death anyone?)

AThat being said I still do like the movie: I still think the characters are great and are among the better casts in Bionicle, even if they don’t always utilize them well. The score is still great and there are a few good if not great parts there

Also rewatching this movie made me realzie how much I love Matau: hes a joy and by far my favorite Metru. Just such a great fun being of chaos I love him so much

If I wasn’t so in love with best boy Lhikan and a certain traitor spider I would just say “Matau best character” but GUYS DEF in my top 5 toa now. as well as top 10/15 overall faves haha

But ye had a good time, just wish it was a miniseries instead of a movie so it wouldve had time to breathe and not rush the story in 1h 15 mins. Would’ve helped the story a lot tbh

For obvious reasons, Loona lmao. This is going to sound bad but I didn't get AS invested in the characters from the pilot as I could have been bc the format didn't really allow for that I think. 2 episodes in and I love them a lot more

2. Character I used to love and now do not:

Literally none, what happened was the other way around. I wasn't invested in any of them, and now I am in pretty much all. Especially Stolas, that was a full 180 that punched me in the face from 'character that exists I guess' to 'I WILL DIE AND KILL FOR YOU'

3. A ship I used to love and now do not:

Same thing, it was the other way around. I started not caring for any but now they got mee ;3;

4. Ultimate favorite character:

Blitzo!! ESPECIALLY after Loo Loo Land. And honestly so much of it comes from Brandon's performance, his delivery adds SO MUCH personality to the character. You can tell what he feels regardless of what he's saying by HOW he says it and he's got so much depth to him anyway I love him. But honestly I love them all so much he's just a bit more bc of how layered and just fun he is to watch. Also in the end he IS so caring still, he's like a cat being an asshole but lovingly

5. Prettiest character:

Stolas/Blitzo bc Stolas deserves better and Blitzo deserves a family and shut up they love each other. I do think Blitzo having a crush on Moxxie is lowkey kind of cute, but I would never want them to actually happen bc Millie/Moxxie is too precious to be broken apart

Somehow, Blitzo/Millie doesn't do it for me? I think Blitzo has a bit of a crush on both the m&ms (maybe bc he's lonely and wants love so bad he crushes on everyone that is close to him, or maybe just bc he does bc horny bastard) but while Blitzo/Moxxie is cute, Blitzo/Millie is... eh

9. Favorite episode

Loo loo land! It was the ep that really sucked me in and made me see this as a good layered show. I think Murder family tried to give Moxxie more of a personality and while it is a good ep it didnt go as deep with characterization as I think it could have, other than Moxxie at least. Loo loo land did it better and did more and I hope it keeps going from there!

The teacher oof. I feel so bad for her and all the shit she went through before she died and after. She literally did nothinh wrong and deserved better

Octavia. To think of what she went through in her household that turned a sweet lil baby into a depressed teen just makes me want to give her a hug :( I'm so happy she has a good dad but honestly growing up to realize your parents hate each other and are possibly in an arranged marriage (I personally think it was a status thing which is why his wife seems more upset that he cheated with an IMP than that he cheated at all + needing an heir thing. I'd say Stolas is gay and sad he was forced into a straight marriage but let's be honest literally everyone in that show is at least bi lmao) just messes one up and growing up in that household sounds like hell in hell

Uhh Moxxie/Blitzo? Again idk if it counts bc i dont want them to be endgame AT ALL and I just think Blitzo having a crush on him is cute. But. They be cute. I love how Blitzo invades Moxxies personal space more than everyone else's (Watcha dreaming about? :3) and Moxxie is SO DONE with him its a cute dynamic

14. death by a thousand cuts (lover): this song is so cinematic feeling and there’s so much cool imagery in it not even to mention the bridge which is an all time great ts bridge. part of why i love this song sm is def that it’s the favorite ts song of an irl friend and it makes me think abt being bitchy and talking abt lover with him lol good associations

13. gold rush (evermore): this song is weird in an amazing way it feels like one of the pretentious bullshit indie bands i listen to (that is to say it’s deeply my shit) the production on this song is extremely cool and different and the chorus is like. so catchy but also so good that it can be in my head all day and i won’t be sick of it

12. false god (lover): the vibes dude the vibes. i didn’t get this song until i saw the snl performance which made it click and now i think it’s amazing 

11. hoax (folklore): this song cuts deep for me like it’s so heavy obv but i get it so hard dude. i love the structure of it too i extremely dig the rhyming triplets

9. i knew you were trouble (red): ok this is probably partially nostalgia lol but also i really love this song even tho i hate dubstep drops in pop songs it just works so well here. love the verses too and how dense with words they are

8. style (1989): this song is so perfect that i can’t imagine how it came to be like how do u write this how do u make this glass box of a thing and how was there a time when it didn’t exist. we never go out of style dude

7. call it what you want (reputation): rep is my favorite ts album and ciwyw sums up everything i love about it it’s the vibes but it’s also that it’s all about the redeeming power of love and about being true to yourself and not worrying about what people think of u like. yeah. also this song just makes my heart hurt

6. state of grace (red): an absolutely killer album opener with some of her best lyrics. i love the drums and how the whole song seems to pulse and i love when it all falls away for the bridge (which is so good that i could just copy paste the lyrics to that as my justification) in summary this is the golden age of something good and right and real

5. so it goes (reputation): this one i struggle to justify idk that i think it’s a Great song but i do think it fucking slaps the drop into the chorus is soooo good and i physically can’t listen to it without singing along. it just sparks joy

4. cardigan (folklore): the writing on this one dude. every line is just so great and the production is so pretty getting to be in youtube chat when the song premiered was one of the highlights of 2020 for me i just immediately fell in love with it

3. peace (folklore): half of my love for this song is relating to it as a super cheesy romantic mentally ill person in terms of like wanting t love people and be loved while knowing that you’re a difficult person to care about and half of it is being absolutely head over heels for the production. i’m a huge fan fan of aaron dessner and the national and this song is just the most dessner-y in a great way it makes me insane

2. cruel summer (lover): an unparalleled banger. i will go to my grave never knowing why it wasn’t a single. annie “st vincent” clark is the most powerful person alive. i love you ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard (HE LOOKS UP GRINNING LIKE A DEVIL)
