#ik she wrote a lot of the songs on ariana's albums that made it big#and shes been w her since her yours truly days#i'm happy for her bc she finally gained critical acclaim w her grammys#but theres no reason this woman should not be on the same superstar level her peers are#it just hits extra hard how slept on victoria is after you listen to all the demos where she#legitimately sounds like shes having sm fun and putting her soul into it#only to hand it to ariana#and lets be real ariana is a great vocalist but without victoria's pen itd be looking pretty bleak#yes and is apparently her only entirely self written track#and while i did think it was catchy i do recognize the lyrics are so ass#every track ariana has w strong lyricism has victoria on the writing credits#that rly mustve been so frustrating for her

「 Cater Diamond 」 ─ ♡ First time you stumbled upon a Light Music Club meeting was an exciting and enjoyable experience. Not so long after you found yourself hanging out with its members, humming to songs of different genres and even sharing lyrics of your world’s favorite ones.
─ ♡ You realized you’ve become an honorary guest or some sort of a talisman, so passing by and seeing you laughing along members wasn’t something unusual.
─ ♡ And despite you being a whole club’s sweet best friend every student could say you were especially attached to Cater.
─ ♡ Cater himself adored your obliviousness and chuckled every time you let a little delightful laugh at his compliments regarding your outfit choices or the way you edited your photos.
“Aww Yuu, it’s prohibited to be this cute,” Cater would say, his gaze soft and full of genuine adoration.
“Likewise!” You would reply with a gentle smile of yours and squeeze his hand tightly and cause Cater to crush down mentally.
─ ♡ Today you were scrolling through Cater’s playlist and just when you were about to play an EDM catchy song you saw something out of place. Album’s cover got you thinking the mood was rather gentle, something Cater never listened to (or at least you never saw him doing that).
─ ♡ “Hey Yuu, what bop are we vibing to today?” He asked you while checking on his guitar.
─ ♡ “How about we listen to some ballads today?” You suggested, gaining his full attention on you. “If you don’t mind.”
─ ♡ “Sure thing, bring it on!”
Ephemerally tender music instantly covered your giddiness with a gentle embrace, causing you to relax and close your eyes. You felt Cater bending over you to check what song exactly did you play and smiled.
“The stars are spilling, the light is shining on you.”
He almost whispered these lines but you heard him clearly nevertheless, looking up at him, your eyes shining with pure enthusiasm.
“You could sing it as a lullaby and I would fall asleep instantly. Your voice’s so lulling.”
Cater blinked twice, asking himself whether he was imagining things or did you actually say his voice was… lulling. He expected it to be bright and maybe even loud, but lulling? He chuckled, parting his lips and letting out a soft hum.
“Don’t go too far, I’ll be right there.”
You lowered the song's volume and relaxed on the sofa you were sitting on. Sudden drowsiness welcomed you in its embrace, causing you to fall asleep instantly as you’ve mentioned not so long ago.
Cater observed your delicate features, appreciating the way you seemed so serene. He was about to bring you a blanket and concentrate on composing a new song, but you suddenly mumbled something incoherently.
“Cater…” he managed to recognize his name through your murmur. “I…”
He wondered what he was doing in your little dream and how beautiful it would be to enter it and stumble upon you in a somnolent realm, but he was here, wide awake and giggling at your small talks through sleep.
“I love you.”
His heart skipped a beat, making Cater choke on air for a moment. He bent over to make sure you were sleeping and you definitely were. Or was it him who dreamed of you confessing to him and this was a representation of a tempting illusion unfolding before him?
No, it certainly wasn’t an illusion. You smiled through your sleep and he took your hand in his, placing a little kiss on your palm.
“Always, I love you.”
「 Trey Clover 」
─ ♡ Sweet soft cream which was supposed to be used for meringue was all over your face, and you giggled at how apparently silly you looked, but it didn’t matter much when Trey was laughing alongside you.
─ ♡ You almost forgot you volunteered to help Trey prepare everything for tomorrow’s unbirthday party with how often you would find yourself just messing around and entertaining Trey with your stories which to your delight he enjoyed listening to.
─ ♡ He noticed how sloppy and clumsy your movements were, given how diligently you were fulfilling your overseer duties and taking care of the certain duo and Grim during the whole day.
─ ♡ He threw a quick glance at the copybooks you brought, a sympathetic smile blossoming on his face.
─ ♡ First years always have a lot of tedious homework to do but you still tried to have your foot in both camps and when Trey was performing miracles of culinary magic, you tried your best in order to not to lose your concentration.
─ ♡ Apparently, you weren’t doing great.
Something pricked his chest when he noticed how upset you seemed, dissatisfied with your own work, the cream consistency you willingly volunteered to prepare turned too oily and too much sugary.
He took the towel from the hanger and bent over you, wiping the cream off your face.
Goodness, how adorable you were with those sleepy eyes of yours, pouting a little and yet still looking right into his eyes, you shone with pure admiration.
“I’m sorry, I messed up your work…”
Trey sighed, placing his hands on his hips and smiled at you. As much as he wanted to give you a reassuring hug, you two still were… dearest friends, he wished you thought at least that regarding your relationship.
“Don’t be too harsh on yourself. It’s okay. And if you’re wondering how else could you help then, please take a nap, it’s painful for me to see you being so tired and exhausted. Okay?”
“Oh… okay. But when I wake up I’ll make sure you’re not being too hard on yourself too, got it?”
“Alright.”
─ ♡ You made sure no cutlery or ingredients were on the table and leaned on the table, resting your head on your hands and closing your eyes. You haven’t realized how tired you were, your eyelids feeling leaden.
─ ♡ Trey focused on cooking, occasionally throwing glances at you and smiling every time he noticed how sweetly you were snoring.
─ ♡ He started decorating the tart when the colors of the sky outside the window turned into warm orange hues, announcing an upcoming evening.
─ ♡ He almost used orange-colored cream for the rose-shaped meringue decorations since the image of you sleeping peacefully before him reminded him of a golden afterglow.
He noticed one little cream speck on your cheek, admiring how tender you seemed, and pressed his finger to wipe it but you let out an incoherent sound suddenly.
“Ugh…” you said, your lips parting slightly. “Not the tangerine filling…”
Trey chuckled in delight. Truly, you resembled a little child, apparently recalling a memory of you two making tangerine cake. So unbelievably cute.
“I know you liked it though,” he answered in a small whisper, making sure didn’t wake you up.
“Uhm… Trey…” He shuddered for a moment, something tangling in his stomach at the way you voiced his name so delicately, as if he was a porcelain figurine, ready to break if you would pronounce it a bit louder.
He couldn’t dare to say anything, even think about that, completely immersed in your little somnolent speech.
“I love you… even if you insist on using that stupid tangerine filling…”
A finger he forgot he pressed on your cheek caressed it unwillingly, sliding down to your lips. As he realized what the hell was happening, you smiled gently and giggled softly at his movements, still remaining in Morpheus’ arms.
Ah really, what does he do with you being so absolutely precious?
「 Leona Kingscholar 」
─ ♡ Sevens, you were so annoying.
─ ♡ You caused a whole commotion involving Ruggie and Jack in order to try finding Leona since you had oh so important things you wanted to say.
─ ♡ Leona yawned, rolling over on his bed, his tail resting on his right leg.
─ ♡ Actually, your little murmurings weren’t so irritating as he was claiming every time you asked if he was listening to you.
─ ♡ The way you rambled about your friends or another adventure of yours was kind of pleasant, not to mention your voice resembled a lullaby to him, always being so somnific and gentle.
─ ♡ But surely he would rather let that lizard win in a competition or something than let you know how he felt about being around you.
─ ♡ Stupid herbivore, did you just need to be so—
─ ♡ “Leona!! Finally found you!”
─ ♡ Ah, right, you still were annoying, there’s no denying.
You smiled, making your way towards his bed and taking a seat on it, not even asking since by that time there was no need for such foolish waste of air. Leona wasn’t best with wording, so you got through a ton of “are you that stupid?” and “just sit already or I’ll make you leave” from him.
You smelled nice. Something fresh and coniferous, nothing irritating, maybe even alluring. Your eyes shone brightly, so full of energy, a colorful spectrum of a wide variety of emotions splashing within.
The urge to restrain his tail from wagging against his will was overwhelming and now that was stupidly annoying. Herbivore, are you actually trying to make him fall under your non-magical spell, bewitching him and causing him to admit he was genuinely happy to see you?
He just hummed instead, demonstrating you just enough that he was listening.
“Planning to hide from me? I would find you anywhere.”
And you were so hot for that so it was foolish of him not to accept it.
“Uh-huh,” he answered, closing his eyes. You weren’t upset with his behavior, knowing he has acknowledged you. There was no denying you gained his trust just enough for being so disarmed around you, drowsing with his eyes closed when you were so close.
─ ♡ You searching the whole campus trying to find him became a sweet domestic routine you would often find yourself entertaining with.
─ ♡ Also your ramblings about little things that happened with you during the day turned into something so tender and pleasant that Leona would occasionally grab you, standing in the corridor and speaking to someone, so that the whole college assumed you two were dating.
─ ♡ Maybe you really were, and it was he who actually hasn’t realized but no, alas, you never cared to explain what kind of relationship you two had.
“Hey, are you listening?”
Fun thing is, he actually was, but reflecting about you two was so drainful he preferred to remain silent, his tail the only thing replying to you but you were too busy being a little bit angry at him to notice.
“Fine, sleep, you grumpy cat. I’ll make you talk when you get up!”
First, he wasn’t a cat, and second—
You just have to interrupt his thoughts with your adamant behavior, haven’t you?
He felt the warmth of your body spreading next to him when you laid down, closing your eyes with such a silly angry face he chuckled softly.
He knew his bed was comfortable enough to fall asleep instantly, so there was nothing surprising in you actually drifting into Morpheus' arms. He placed his tail on your leg and observed your gentle features, appreciating what he saw.
“Stupid Leona,” Your lips parted suddenly, and you let out an annoyed noise. Even in your sleep you were scolding him for something oh so important.
“As if,” he replied, not even slightly lowering his voice. “We’re matching in that, herbivore.”
“Why am I… ughm…” Sevens, why even your sleep talks were so cute? “Why do I even… love you… so much…”
Oho, what an interesting statement. Good for you he felt the same. He pulled you close to him, closing his eyes and grinning slyly.
“Me too, herbivore. Maybe I wouldn’t even mind listening to you later.”
「 Vil Schoenheit 」
─ ♡ Somehow you gained unreachable at first glance the honorable ‘Vil’s associate’ title. Or accomplice if you will.
─ ♡ Epel would often ask you how the hell you’ve managed to bewitch the witcher, so that not he observed you not with boiling malicious judgment (really, sometimes Epel was so silly for thinking that way) but with hints of approval instead.
─ ♡ But you truly enjoyed being his accomplice’, appreciating Vil’s work ethic when he took you with him to photoshoots or recording studios.
─ ♡ Today was no exception, and you find yourself resting on the coach and minding your own business in order to not distract Vil during his working hours.
─ ♡ You threw a quick glance at him, standing on the other side of a huge glass almost the entire wall length, adjusting the microphone in accordance with his own height.
You’ve seen idols recording songs in the studios like this, looking a bit domestic and sleep deprived at times, but Vil always made sure he was stunning every second he breathed. Still, you blushed when your gaze flickered over his collarbones, revealing ever so slightly under a faint cerulean-colored blouse. Pleasant warmth spreading on your face caused you to avert your eyes, letting out a little sigh. He was so ethereal in such light colors, you wondered if he ever heard you murmuring to Rook and Epel how fantastically dreamy he seemed, a pristine fairy descended from the pages of ancient fables.
─ ♡ And yet, he was the Vil Schoenheit. A model, an actor, a singer, and first of all, your dearest friend you admired the most. You were sure there was no place for your silly crushes or whatsoever, so you just forced a smile and showed thumbs up when Vil glanced at you before starting recording.
─ ♡ His clear yet audacious voice was so alluringly beautiful so you felt spellbound, dissolving in his new song lines, and closed your eyes, letting his voice guide you straight into sweetest dreams.
An hour passed, and Vil went to the room you were resting in, filling a cup of tea with hot water and taking a seat beside you. You bowed your head in an unnatural position so that Vil was sure you'd be rubbing your neck from the pain on the way home, so he put a pillow under your head, fixing disheveled hair locks from your face.
You were divine in his own eyes. You seemed so natural, so normal and so right beside him.
Vil’s colleague passed by, not even making a try to stop staring at the image of Vil slowly caressing your cheeks and drinking tea casually like it was his daily routine. Vil took a book out of his bag he entrusted you, adjusting your hand rested on the top of it, not noticing how corners of his lips turned upward at the thought of you diligently keeping your duties.
“Mhm…” you mumbled through your sleep, causing Vil to take a glance at you.
You unconsciously snuggled closer to him, carefully touching his perfectly ironed blouse with your fingers even in your sleep.
He allowed you that silly move, chuckling softly and returning his gaze to the book. He wondered if you admitted you were so comfortable around him in your conscious state, too.
“Vil…” you muttered under your breath and he turned to you, making sure you were still sleeping.
He noticed smeared gloss on your parted lips and smiled, slightly cupping your cheek in his hand.
“Yes, dear?” He replied, fascinated by your behavior.
“Ugh… I love you…”
Ah, really. He smiled and decided he needed to fix your gloss, leaving an ephemeral kiss at the corner of your lips.
「 Rook Hunt 」
─ ♡ Ah, look at you being so insanely cute!
─ ♡ He found you in the Pomefiore ballroom, practicing dance moves since you agreed to help Vil with being backup dancer in a new Film Studies Club’s upcoming project.
─ ♡ You sighed, straightening your posture and turning music on, again and again returning to the very beginning. Apparently you had a problem with one little movement you kept on ruining.
─ ♡ You were the only one who thought that, while Rook observed you from the entrance. Fingers pressed to his chin, a joyful smile blossoming with delight splashing in his eyes.
─ ♡ You were absolutely stunning even with sweat drops running down your pretty neck.
You howled in frustration as you stood in front of the mirror and took a deep breath. Rook could hear you counting beats in your head, your hands went up in a sudden movement, and you made the same mistake again, skipping a beat and looking quite down.
As you wanted to try again he approached you, delicately taking your hands in his when you did the same move again, and you gasped a little, turning to him and giggling softly, your voice being a pristine bluebell ringing.
“Rook!” You exclaimed, averting your gaze. Oh, you were so sweaty and exhausted, probably not the best version of yourself to present to him, but Rook viewed you as an absolute divine being, so vivid and blissful.
“Good evening, petite hirondelle,” your hands still were in his. Rook smiled at the pinkish hue dusting your soft cheeks. “Working to the bone as usual?”
“Not really,” you sighed. “I’ve been making the same mistake for an hour or so…”
“I know the way to help you solve this problem,” now that Rook piqued your interest he slightly swirled you, as if in a waltz, and grabbed you by the waist, making you sit on the coach.
“H-hey,” you protested. “I still need to practice more, I can’t be slacking off!”
“My my,” he chuckled, pressing his finger to your lip. “You sure are quite stubborn, aren’t you? Although it warms my heart to see you so persistent about your activities, I’m not telling you to slack off, my dear. I'm advising you to take a rest.”
You thought that maybe he was right. Your eyelids felt heavy, not to mention the sore in your hands after dancing for so long.
“Worry not, I’ll be there to help you when you wake up.”
“Alright, but I’m not planning on taking a nap! I’ll just rest… for a while…”
─ ♡ He chuckled at how fast your consciousness drifted away, your body relaxing after some time you’ve been fighting with yourself in order to not to fall asleep.
─ ♡ Rook smiled in delight looking at your gentle sleepy features and was ready to find a blanket to cover you with, but you suddenly jolted in your sleep, grabbing his hand and mumbling something demandingly.
“Ugh, Rook!..” Your little murmurs were so cute that Rook covered his mouth with his hand, trying to restrain himself from giggling.
“Yes, dear, I’m listening,” he tried answering just out of curiosity. Your furrowed brows were so adorable, not to mention a little pout he was so fond of.
“I… I love you… Let’s… date maybe… mhm..”
Oh Sevens, your words were a pure blessing for him. A sudden sparkle of joy flared up within him, and he didn’t notice how blush covered his cheeks a little, matching him with you.
“What a sweet confession,” he whispered, caressing your cheek, and smiled, deciding to wait for you to wake up and hear those words when you would look straight into his eyes and confess once again.
「 Idia Shroud 」 ─ ♡ Well well… First two hours of having you in his room turned Idia into a blubbering furiously blushing mess, his disheveled hair flickering, bright red sparks fell on your skin, but in the end you found yourself playing with them and enjoying the warmth they radiated.
─ ♡ You didn’t even remember how the hell you made your way into his room and how in the world did you manage to convince him to play games with you.
─ ♡ A vague memory of you claiming you needed his help to beat a new boss in the DLC you bought not so long ago and now it was terrorizing you during sleepless nights, the boss still remaining quite alive and kicking, your ass ahem not letting you to make it any further.
─ ♡ Idia wasn’t opposed to the idea of helping you beat the boss, given he was insanely good with the combat system, but was that necessary to come here?!
─ ♡ Sevens, you were a cuteness hazard, just how could you…
“Dude, you’re hot for hitting those crits, I’m impressed. Like, literally hot.”
“One more shitty pun like this and I’m kicking you out of my room.”
“You already said that a few hours ago when I first came!”
“Jeez just sit still and watch!”
─ ♡ How shameless you were, calling him hot like it was something ever so usual to voice out loud.
─ ♡ And that was extremely hot of you to do, there was no denying.
─ ♡ Ugh, really, he knew he was socially awkward, but he had absolutely no idea about how to… get closer to you at least for a little?
─ ♡ You were so stunning and gorgeous, always making him laugh and being here when he was feeling down, there was no escape route for him to run away from getting a pretty obvious crush on you.
Of course you wouldn’t want him having him as your boyfriend, or even a friend. He had a pessimistic way of thinking, and yet you were here in his room, laughing along with him and making sure he wasn’t slouching too much so his back wouldn’t hurt and cheering him up when the boss’ attacks were hitting hard.
His fingers hurriedly clicked on the console, the combo of punches increased in number, and he was incredibly close to victory.
“Ha! What did you even say about this boss being hard to beat? You just don’t know how— EGH?!”
He felt your forehead thud on his shoulder, and he jolted, screaming in fear.
“Hey?!” He exclaimed, not daring to look at you, the game boss's life indicator kept decreasing on a thin strip. “What the!..”
He suddenly heard you snoring and realized you fell asleep. Seriously, just how did you manage to relax in his presence so that Morpheus took you in his gentle arms that easily?
“Mhm…” you mumbled, not even noticing through your sleep what you actually fell on. “Hey, Idia…”
“What?!” He wondered for a mere second how the hell haven’t you heard him screaming but replied to you nevertheless, the boss was almost over.
“I… I love you…”
“OH SEVENS YOU WHAT?!”
You woke up instantly, gasping and mumbling something incoherently, your eyes staring at the red “YOU DIED” spreading over the screen.
“I just fell asleep and you’re losing already, oh my goodness!.. Hey, what’s with your cheeks? Are you okay?”
Idia didn’t even dare to think what kind of shade of red his cheeks AND his hair were.
「 Malleus Draconia 」
─ ♡ The weather was getting warmer with every new day, presenting an absolutely divine view.
─ ♡ Ramshackle dorm had its own garden, once being beautiful, you supposed, but unfortunately after surviving an extremely cold winter and even rare flowers withered, turning into wrinkled dark petals, causing you only melancholy and sadness.
─ ♡ So you thought you would renovate it all by yourself, thankfully, Sam had flower seeds of all kinds in his shop.
─ ♡ By the current time of the year you already did a great job, and now you were watering a kaleidoscope of multi-colored flowers, the delicate aroma of which instilled inspiration and cheerfulness in you.
Bright green familiar sparks shone under the rays of the golden sun, and you carefully tried to touch them, smiling to yourself and giggling softly, gesturing a greeting to your beloved visitor.
“Good morning, Tsunotarou,” you almost whispered since there was no need to speak loudly.
Green sparkles dissolved, and with a bright flash Malleus appeared before you, giving you a gentle smile.
“Good morning indeed,” he answered, taking his seat beside you when you put the watering can on the ground and sat down on the bench.”I hope I didn’t distract you, child of man.”
“Never,” you replied, appreciating your work and smiling, feeling a little giddy at his appearance.
─ ♡ Malleus’ presence brought calm and peace to you, somehow his only existence could put your thoughts at ease, and you would often find yourself wondering how could you thank him for that.
─ ♡ Little did you know you were already enough with those delightful smiles of yours and all the hard work you put into renovating Ramshackle dorm.
“You’re always so observant with everything you do, child of man. I feel honored to feel so enchanted by the way you manage to impress me.”
“Y-you’re flattering me, Tsunotarou…”
He chuckled at you, who blushed beside him heavily, trying to hide your happy smile.
The silence that suddenly fell between you was not oppressive. You often enjoyed each other's quietness, gestures and glances served as ways of communication instead, so you fixed your eyes on the garden, feeling warmth spreading on your skin under the soft sun rays, and closed your eyes.
“Do you know what white hyacinths and gypsophila mean, child of man?”
Malleus turned his head to you, finding you already asleep. He wouldn't dare to touch you when you were so vulnerable, so he just fixed his gaze on you; an unfamiliar, but apparently unobtrusive sense of calmness bloomed in his chest.
He observed your slightly parted lips and the way your cheeks turned a bit reddish, and wondered why you were so…
“Precious,” he whispered suddenly, his hand stopping midair when you giggled through your sleep, your head suddenly on his shoulder.
“Malleus…” you voicing out his name was something new. He never even thought his own name he heard pronounced in fear, with coy respect or acrid contempt, would sound so tender and genuinely sweet…
He remained silent, finally daring to draw his hand to your chin, caressing it gently.
The flowers…” you whispered, a little smile appearing on your face after you leaned to his touch. “I hope you… like them..”
“I do enjoy them, thank you, child of man,” he was wondering how far he could go now, since with every word you said something flashed in his chest with a bright firework of joyful emotions.
“Mhm… Love you, Malleus…”
Ah.
He stopped for a mere second before parting his own lips and deciding he couldn’t resist anymore, so he placed a soft kiss on your forehead, apparently waking you up.
“H-huh!.. W-what?..”
“Child of man, let's plant amaranth camellias and lots of forget-me-nots. Together, if you will.”
“Ah? Sure, let’s?..”
He chuckled, taking your hand in his and placing a little kiss on your knuckles. ─ ✿ white hyacinths - constancy. "I'm enchanted forever". gypsophila - caution, timidity. red camelias - passion. "You are the flame in my heart". forget-me-not - memories, true love, sincerity.
「 Lilia Vanrouge 」
“Have you ever tried dying your hair another color?”
─ ♡ What an interesting human being you were!
─ ♡ You were sitting in front of him while he was playing something uncomplicated on the guitar after you gave him your Hello Kitty stickers to decorate it with.
─ ♡ You always wondered how his aesthetic would change if he had bright blue strands or what could happen if he dyed it green?
─ ♡ He would become an embodiment of the Diasomnia whole aesthetics!
“No,” he replied, throwing a quick curious glance at you. “Wanna try dying it for me?”
“Right now?” You gasped and jumped off the chair he suggested you sit on. “For real?”
“Sure thing, sweetie, we just need to find hair dye… I bought it one day.”
─ ♡ After searching his room for hair dye and finding piles of other items of inexplicable nature, it wasn’t even clear what they were intended for, you found red paint and exclaimed triumphantly.
─ ♡ You did all the preparations and made him sit before you, you bending over him and working carefully as if Lilia’s life depended on you.
─ ♡ He closed his eyes, entrusting himself to you, and smiled slyly. Sevens, you were so adorable with that concentrated look in your eyes and careful movements your hands made.
─ ♡ He giggled slightly, causing you to almost freak out because a few bright red drops touched his cheeks, and you had to wipe it with a towel you also found in his drawer.
“How the hell do you look so gorgeous even when your hair is like that? Not to mention the foil pieces.”
“Aww so you do admit I’m gorgeous~”
“Ergh, of course you are!..” You averted your gaze, pouting and trying to hide a sudden blush covering your cheeks. “Anyway! Let’s wait for a while.”
You jumped on his bed, which has become an absolutely usual thing for all the time of your ... let's call it friendship, although neither you nor Lilia obviously regarded your relationship as an ordinary friendship.
The painstaking process of coloring Lilia's hair took a huge amount of energy from you, so that you didn't even notice how suddenly your head was on his pillow, and he chuckled coquettishly, coming up to you and sitting next to you.
“Ho, falling asleep already? Aren’t you in charge of the whole dying process?”
“I’m not falling asleep, you’re seeing things,” you replied with your eyes closed and voice trembling at how tired you were.
Lilia chuckled, slightly poking your cheek and smiling to himself. Goodness, he just couldn’t resist, given how incredibly adorable you were.
Soon enough he found you sleeping peacefully on his bed and planned to wash the dye out of his hair but you mumbled something unexpectedly.
“H-hey, Lilia…” you whispered through your sleep and he turned to you.
“Hm? I’m all ears.”
He approached you, floating midair and wondering how you even managed to fall asleep when the acrid smell of hair dye filled the room.
“I have a shampoo… in my bag…” he giggled at your words. “Take it… I… mhm..”
“Thanks, love,” he answered playfully, actually forgetting where did you place your bag and remaining still to entertain himself a little bit more. No, really, having such a cute friend could be considered a crime.
“Uh-huh…” you replied. “Love you too.”
Now that was interesting. Lilia refrained from pressing his lips to you at that very moment, only for the simple reason that the hair dye smell was still strong enough to wake you up if he moved even a millimeter closer to you.
“Ah really?” He asked instead, a long forgotten feeling of genuine love blossoming in his chest reviving at the moment. “You mean it?”
“Mhm…” you looked so grumpy and adorable. “Love you.”
He touched his finger to his lips, and then pressed it against yours, as if conveying an ephemeral kiss, and covered you with a blanket.

So I got to the Daylight Inn in BG3 today and I had Astarion in my squad, and as we were hanging out and chatting up Isobel after rescuing her from Marcus, I started hearing a male character singing really softly. I switch characters around to see if I can find them and BOOM I find out ot's Astarion singing softly to himself while idle. I couldn't quite make the lyrics out but he sounded a bit distant and sad...made me want to hug him again.
OH NO… little guy, that’s so cute ;A; I absolutely love this and really, really hope this triggers for me in (one of) my current pts!
I have heard audio of him humming before (and it was so flat- which is super endearing to me lol), BUT this ask made me have some big hcs and I had to write and draw some boys about it lol
-
I imagine that Astarion really, truly loves to sing, that he gets catchy tavern songs stuck in his head for days and goes about his business singing to himself. However, the other spawn would continuously tell him to never to do so in their presence because he can't hold a tune, what kind of elf can’t sing? And what in the names of all the gods did he have to sing about anyway? Besides the song of agony that Cazador made him sing…
By the time he ends up a tadfool in our favorite merry band of misfits he’s learned well not to dare let his discordant voice slip in front of other people. He has to be charming, he has to be pleasant so that they keep him around. And his song is not a pleasant one.
He can’t help himself though, he still hums and sings quietly as he strolls through the woods, when he’s reading or sewing, in times when he thinks he’s entirely by himself. But Tav, godsdamnit, Tav takes notice.
Tav startles him one night, telling him that they recognize the tune that he’s humming and that it’s one of their favorites. Astarion’s pissed that they were listening in on him, but he’s more surprised that he isn’t shot down immediately, that he’s not met with expected snark for not being able to carry a tune in a bucket, but Tav doesn’t belittle him… which is odd.
In time Astarion still keeps his songs to himself around the rest of the party, but as he begins to trust Tav he finds himself becoming more and more relaxed with them. He realizes that he can be himself around them, well, whatever parts of himself still left to him at this point anyway.
But it was a novel concept, this acceptance, a concept he learned to greatly appreciate. And Tav seems pleased to see (and hear) him being comfortable with them, being happy. Tav cares for him.
Tav cares for him after no one had given a rats ass about him for two centuries. What a concept indeed.
So Astarion continues humming flatly and singing badly, Tav joins him often and they belt out old folk songs or bawdy tavern numbers together on their long journey, making up colorful (and hilariously crass) new verses as they go.
And he comes to realize that this, this time with Tav is what being close to a person is supposed to feel like.
That being put down and belittled for something that a person enjoys is not universal.
That constantly being on guard is not normal.
That another person can actually bring him joy, and that caring for someone is... possible.
Tav says that they enjoy singing with him, that they could go on singing with him forever, that they love his song.
And would it be so bad to sing of love instead of sorrow? Would it be so bad to share his song with them for as long as time would allow? He wasn’t quite sure yet, it was all so new.
But as he walks with Tav, arm in arm, belting out a bawdy old ballad to the heavens and all unfortunate ears within a mile, he had to admit that the thought of forever was enticing.
-
Thank you so much for the ask! And sorry it took 5ever bc it inspired me to make a little Drabble and doodle :>

🍙 for @dira333 from my fruits basket :3
1) about my 5sos phase (+ 1d)
i didn't think someone would actually ask omg LOL. i was into 1d for a bit too!! 😭 got into 5sos first and was way more into them, but i did go to concerts for both in 2015 (almost got ashton’s drumstick and i get pissed thinking about it to this day).. and then 1d announced their hiatus a month later and i was like Oh. LOL. i was there for made in the am though!! :D
my 5sos phase was when i was 10-12..? my friends and i liked them in grade 6 And when you're 11 year old girls Everyone calls dibs. so i had to say my fave was michael. A Lie. i liked luke and calum. also i had a fanacc... so embarrassing because my irls followed me. i try not to think about it. i had 1.8k followers before impulsively giving the account away LOL. then i was into bts until i was 16ish :0
i met my first internet friends through that fanacc though!! we don't talk much anymore, but they're dear to me 🩷 been friends for near a decade now 🫨 but kids under 13 if here Stay Safe and or like.. don’t be on socmed??!!! do not follow in our footsteps.. the internet feels much worse now 🙁😟…
to this day i probably know 5sos’s old discography better than any other artist, like, lyric wise. a close contender might be shawn mendes but he’s not important right now.
some icons of my time If anyone here recognizes them: heartbreak girl, unpredictable, beside you, heartache on the big screen, disconnected, safety pin (my alarm for so long every time it plays i flinch a little), fly away, jet black heart (not even my fave but it’d get stuck in my head more than any other song Dear God)
and for 1d!! u liking infinity and a.m. is So Real. i also liked wolves and temporary fix! of course history and end of the day etc were super catchy too. for four i liked where do broken hearts go, clouds (opening song at otra which was life changing really), fool’s gold.. i liked the whole album reallyfhbdhfb i’m not gonna get into the other ones because that’s so many songs but. you get it.
2) the song bokuto plays on a boombox outside my window at midnight to confess
now that my mind’s on 5sos and 1d If he played 18 by one direction i think i’d throw up /pos. in an au where he loved me since we were 18.. WOULDN’T THAT JUST BE LIFE CHANGING.
i want to be with you by chloe moriondo is also a good contender, cliche and cheesy as it also is..
notice me by alli simpson might actually make me laugh because it’d be silly.. like he’d have a little choreo or something.. but i was obsessed w the song when i was younger LOL
3) pda with cove in a new city versus sunset bird
jumped for joy at the sight of his name. this is such an interesting question actually because i’ve never thought of possible differences..
everyone in sunset bird (hometown) is used to us being affectionate while we walk around.. seeing a pair of wet footprints across the pavement as we walk back from the beach.. hmm if the new city is also by a beach or more tropical, he’d be comfortable acting similarly! but new york or something, he’s holding my hand and staying aware of our surroundings fhdbgh a little more serious and toned down.. i’m not swinging our arms back and forth or getting a piggy back ride y’know
thank u for the questions dira friend!! :D my cleaning break is about to end but i'll come by with questions i thought of on my next one 🫡🫡
#nia's fruits basket#yippee!!!#'my break is about to end' bro i sound like im back in high school#aghhh

Was Meg White a good drummer?
*sighs eternally* Yes, she was. She was the perfect drummer for The White Stripes, and I can't believe some dumbasses still try to argue otherwise in 2023
Ya know what? Let me rant about Meg White now that you gave me the chance, because this woman:
1 - Was the reason the band started in the first place. Jack said many times that jamming with her ONCE was enough to let him know that they had something special (musically speaking) and it just HAD to become a band instead of just being a one-off thing, or just something they did for fun. And let's not forget, she is reason the reason behind the NAME of the fucking band.
2 - Was an active participant in creating the songs all the Stripes fans, including the ungrateful bastards that shit-talk her for no damn reason, absolutely love. Yes, Jack made the lyrics, but he usually wrote them while playing the piano. The final versions we all know came to be when he AND MEG would "cover" them together, to turn it into THEIR music. Jack also trusted her input so much that they would rework on any song she said she didn't like or didn't feel quite finished yet.
3 - Usually had a very "simplistic" childlike way of playing the drums. That made perfect sense for a band with a guy like Jack, whose deal is "restraint forces you to be creative" and "the best ideas are the ones you have when you think like a kid." Her drumming was a feature, not a bug. "We Will Rock You" is a ridiculously simple song, yet people still treat it as the classic it is, and give Queen a ton of respect for it. But Meg does exactly what she was supposed to, in that exact same vein, and suddenly "The White Stripes deserved a better drummer" (funny how we never see Jack get called a shit writer despite trying to keep lyrics extremelly simple, huh?)
4 - Had to perform without a setlist because once again Jack just has to be different. She had to immediately recognize any song he was playing (and he had plenty to choose from), remember how to play it, AND adapt to Jack's constant improves - which often included stuff like interrupting a song, playing part of another one for a minute, then go back to the first one. All while suffering from severe anxiety and performing in front of HUGE audiences - some of which, as we know, were dying for her to make any mistake, no matter how small, so they could go "See? I told you she sucks!"
5 - Could often go fucking nuts on the drums when necessary, to help Jack build momentum, and then just suddenly stop or go back to normal whenever he gave her a cue - and again, he liked to improvise, so she had to be ready for EVERYTHING.
6 - Had soooooo much chemistry with Jack on stage that it became a show in it of itself. Let's face it, rock is often as much about the "image" as it is about the music (and this band sure knows it considering their thing of only wearing red, black and white to stand out and be memorable), and by God, I cannot think of The White Stripes without picturing all the times I watched a video of some performance of theirs and thought "Jesus Christ, get a room."
7 - Was a joy to watch when she was just on stage, not giving a fuck, and having fun while playing the drums. I don't care what people say, to me she had as much stage presence as the guy that took her last name.
Bonus: Wrote "Little People." I know, I know, that song is not one of the big ones, but I think it's dope and this is my post. Jack could have easily just sing the lyrics while not touching his guitar, because that song is all about Meg creating the rhythm and the melody with her drums (like she did in "Little Room", another treasure). It's simple, catchy, and an underrated gem.
Bonus 2: She sang "In The Cold, Cold Night." I know, nothing to do with drumming, but that song is in my top 10 AND was frequently played in the show long after it's release. She managed to secure a little moment by herself in the spotlight despite not really being a professional singer, and that just shows, once again, that she could deal with ANYTHING her band-mate threw at her.
Meg wasn't just a drummer that was allowed to tag along to the Jack White show because they were married/siblings, like some people love to pretend. She was his partner and a core aspect of what made the band so great. There's a reason why when she retired from her music career, Jack didn't just get someone to new and continue using the band name. He KNEW it wouldn't be the same, he knew Meg was as irreplaceable as him. If either of the two is missing, then it's just not The White Stripes.
It doesn't matter how much some trolls try to pretend Meg was useless or even holding Jack back. The simple fact that they praise Jack's work on their dyscography proves they are wrong, because they're weren't two people coming up with stuff separately and then stitching it together. Jack's riffs, intros, solos, outros, and the instrumental chrous like the one in "Seven Nation Army" were only able to exist because he and Meg were playing off of each other, exchanging notes, trying new stuff, keeping up with each other, working and creating music together.
If you like The White Stripes, you have to thank BOTH of them for it. It's that simple, and I don't know why people are still struggling to understand that.

💘 @jowritesfanfiction
💝 @bttf-dork for tagging me!!! 🥺😭
1. First rewatch was right before watching the musical. Second rewatch was right after watching the musical... Third was recently as I'm tryna write a fanfic and had to go over some scenes but idk if it counts
2. Bttf the musical poster and vinyl record!!! It's now the second record in my vinyl collection hahaha
3. I don't drink soda 😅
4. HELL YEAH I always take the opportunity to advertise fanfic 🤩 Its about post trilogy Marty being a bit angsty about the new timeline and missing the old timeline. But it has a happy ending. I think its the closest to canon because other ones with the same premise lean so much into the angst (not that that's bad!!! Just saying it's not the same vibes as the movies u kno) Its also old but holy shit, it contains the most cathartic end to the series. The much needed closure 🤌✨️
Peace by dapperdragon
I'm so SAD cuz I don't think the author's on Tumblr? And havent posted on Ao3 in 2 years... Which sucks cuz I'm planning to DRAW THIS FIC. Or at least the ending scene 🥺💘 It wont be for a while cuz I'm tryna hone my skills and DO IT JUSTICE💪😤 but yeah next year is its 10 year anniversary that's crazy HAHA. Give it a read plz plz plz its only 1 chapter.
5. THATS TOUGH
It's so cozy and gives me all the warm fuzzies 🥰
I'm breaking the rules
BUT I HAD TO INCLUDE THIS. FIGHT ME
Anything by @cheriboms ngl HAHAHA
Ok but if I really had to choose:
Cuz it marks the start of Doctober 🥺 and like 🥺 we did that together 🥺👉👈💘💝
Also cuz its in color and sunrises/sunset always gimme warm fuzzies🥰
6. THATS ALSO TOUGH. Actually less tough. It's all under my [#personal fave] tag. But since the other was sunrise, I gotta put sunset 😁
LMAO when u link stuff, it shows ur tag line. I totally forgot I set that 🍫🍫🍫
7. BAHAHAHAHAHA... school...
8. The Wild Life (1984) I dont recommend it tho!! 😂😂😂 it has Lea Thompson and Eric Stoltz. I also checked out the one clip from that one episode on Family Ties with Crispin Glover and Micheal J Fox. I recommend that one, it's actually funny 😂
Then I checked out the clips with Tom Hanks on the show LMAO
9. Not this year, but during my American Psycho (2000) phase, I thought their undisputed masterpiece was "Hip to be Square" 🤌✨️ A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should! Because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself--!!
HEY PAUL!!!
10. None, I don't think...
11. Hell yeah! I detailed it all on this post
12. Uh prolly once a long long time ago that I don't remember LMAO she don't talk bout it like Lorraine🤭
13. "Hey..! What the hell is this?!"
14. I got to go on both European and US trains this year. Haven't been on a skateboard since I was a tiny kid. Have never been on a horse. Never been on a DeLorean. I have run in the rain lmao. Dance? Does a concert count? My friends and I danced at one (my first one!). Never hung up a clock. Does a ukulele count? I don't think I am or ever was capable of pulling an all nighter 😂 its so weird for me to hear my peers doing it. Like??? Yall fr? Nah fam. I don't read sci fi. I don't eat fast food lmao
15. GETTING MY FANFIC DONE. Currently, it spans 6 parts and goes over the entire trilogy, complete with a Hell Valley Filler Arc! 🤭😁 but I'm working on part 1 rn and will post it while I work on part 2 and so on...
I'm also planning to draw a moment from other fanfic I adore like I've done in the past few months
Learning how to color +render my digital art would be nice!
Tagging @cheriboms

I find it,,,,, interesting in a disappointing way but entirely predictable that hes branding this new album as a "classic parx album!!!1!!1!" When this honestly sounds nothing like parx at all imo. Like even new, crappier parx has a specific sound/vibe to it where i can immediately recognize that its parx but this new clip honestly sounds like it could have been cooked up in a windowless board room for mgk (🤮) or new avril or m*d sun or one of the tiktok boybot "musicians"........ Like if it came on w/o me knowing who it was id probably recognize his voice after a while hut there would be quite a but of hesitation.
And im wondering, does he really get that virality (especially of the tiktok variety) just,,, doesn't last?? For the vast majority of people at least. Like even if you go viral in a huge way (not something thats going to happen for parx tbh) you're the hot new thing for a few weeks at most and then the internet moves on, thats just how it works. And the ones who really DO get their "careers launched!!!" or otherwise boosted off of internet fame are always the ones w large expensive support systems already in place. im talking like olivia rodrigo whos a disney child star, mgk or willow who have been established artists for a while, jaden w an x or whoever who was already rich and viral before he started "making music" and immediately got picked up by travis barker. Like sure there are regular ppl musicians that got big from tiktok like penelope scott or mxmtoon but they're not nearly as big as the other ones.
So like,,,, even if that somehow did happen for parx it really wouldn't be a huge win!!! You get dedicated fans who show up to concerts by actually WRITING GOOD MUSIC, not sound bites. Sorry for the essay, ik its all been saud before im just long winded and frustrated lol
YEAHHHH YEP you make a lot of great points here and i agree w you LOL. i dont hate the music for this song or anything but it definitely also reads to me as that same “made in a lab” pop punk theyre churning our now for radio. its interesting because that new pop punk and the pop punk of the 00s (and pre-2018 10s) actually sounds super different. this new stuff is way more polished and synthy and electronic and THATS what this parx song sounds like. again i dont hate it and it could be catchy and ill wait to judge it when its fully out but thats the vibe i get
and thats the thing: he DOESNT seem to get that!!!!! hes staking HIS WHOLE CAREER his fate and the fates of his friends and bandmates on landing a viral tiktok hit WHICH MIGHT I REMIND THE AUDIENCE HE ALREADY FAILED TO DO WITH ONE ALBUM and not only is it not guaranteed its gonna get him nowhere near what he thinks. he thinks hes gonna get a viral tiktok audio and be lil nas x. no dude. songs on tiktok go viral all the time and only last a couple weeks. they go viral and their creators/artists dont get lasting recognition AT ALL. sure itll drive your streaming numbers up for a while!!! but those ppl are not sticking around after the hype wears off. ESPECIALLY if all your recent catalogue is bland empty cardboard lyrics you clearly designed for tiktok virality. why the hell would they want to stick around for that???? being lucky enough to score a viral tiktok song is not about to make you the next doja cat. and you literally have not even managed to go viral yet. stop basing your ENTIRE artistry and direction around this idea!!!!!!!!!!
#youre in for a world of hurt#and your art is suffering for it terribly. your lyrics suck ass#mail time!#neg#long post

something like “i know” (ben hardy x fem reader)
genre: FLUFF FINALLYY
summary: sometimes making tiktoks with ben doesn’t always turn out the way you plan, but by no means is that a negative.
words: 1.4k
warnings: age gap (not dramatic, reader is like, idk, 23 maybe?), kissing, i think that’s it but lmk!
a/n: hi! so i’ve had this idea for ages and wanted to write it so here it is! the end of it is far sappier than i planned but meh whatevs. also ty to cici and eva for helping me pick the moodbard hehe. k enjoy!
☆❂✧
Having an age gap was never something that put a large damper on their relationship. The conflicting personalities of the two balanced out quite nicely, and the similarities that drew the two of them together in the first place (apart from the aforementioned) made sure they never had a lack of interesting things to talk about that weren’t generational.
Until TikTok, that was.
Now of course, there were some other millennials on the application, but Ben just for some reason couldn’t get it.
“Yes, I know that, babe, but why do they do dances?”
“They lip sync too!”
“But what is the point?”
And that’s how the conversation would end. Every single time. So Ben would sit on the sofa, watching as she danced about in front of the small screen, occasionally playing some cruel (ok, that’s a large exaggeration, they’re somewhat mean, at best) joke on him, claiming it was a trend on TikTok? That just did not sit right with him.
He didn’t remember hearing “mean pranks” in the initial description of the app when she had described it to him all of those times.
Ben tried to tune it out, he really did. He would wear his headphones, blasting Zeppelin as loud as he could while reading scripts or a book. But somehow, those catchy little tunes always managed to worm their way into his ear, being stuck in there for days and days on end.
He would waltz around the house humming Megan Thee Stallion, the occasional Flo Milli or underground indie artist also making an appearance often.
He was pouring a cup of coffee for himself one Tuesday morning in the kitchen before going on a run, Y/n watching fondly from afar. Rain was softly rolling down the windows, barely coming to a cease. The air was chilly, and fog floated through the early morning sky, a sense of calm washing over their shared South London home.
The room was kept somewhat warm, though, from the fireplace that she had insisted the house had to have, which Ben ended up being grateful for on more than one occasion. He looked over his shoulder briefly, smiling at the sight of his beloved wrapped up in his seafoam jumper, watching him move about contently.
As he turned back to where he was working on filling the two mugs in front of him, he began to oh so quietly sing the lyrics to what sounded like a familiar tune off of the app. Watermelon Sugar, maybe?
“Ben? Baby?”
He turned, his eyes growing wide and his hands flying to his hips as he leaned against the countertop behind him.
“Mhhm, yeah, w-what’s up, babe?”
She couldn’t hold in her giggle at the sight of her boyfriend’s red face and disgruntled appearance, one of his hands now scratching casually at his gold locks.
“What’re you singin’, pretty boy?”
His blush only increased at the nickname, eliciting another laugh from his girl.
“Y’know, just somethin’ I heard on the radio the other day.”
She immediately recognized his lie, he refused to listen to the radio, only using either Bluetooth or the aux cord, his music taste too pretentious for mainstream stations. She didn’t mind, though, always finding it quite funny how much of a music snob he was.
But rather than call him out, she only nodded and smirked, standing up and bringing her phone with her over to the windowsill where she usually filmed her TikToks, pulling Ben along with her.
He sipped from his mug, eyes slanted as she scrolled through something on her phone, various sounds emitting from the speaker.
A little smile showed up on her face when she (apparently) found what she was looking for, leaving her to set the phone down, allowing a video under the sound to play on repeat.
“Sweetheart, what’s going on?” He asked, ever so cautiously, taking a step towards her. She walked towards him, engulfing him in a hug which he (yet again) cautiously reciprocated.
“I am going to teach you a TikTok dance.”
He had to do a double take.
“Come again?”
She pulled on the elastic waistband of her sweats, grabbing Ben by the arm.
“Come on, I know you wanna. And if nothing else you’ll do it to make me happy.”
He rolled his eyes, slightly irritated at her confidence and that she was so incredibly correct, he would do mostly anything to put a smile on her face.
“Yeah, you’re right.” He grumbled, moving to stand next to her.
She clapped once in excitement, joy flooding her entire body. The music started up again, but this time, she began to dance along to it.
“Ok, so just try to do what I’m doing, alright?”
“No! Not alright, can I just stand here, I think I should just stand here-“
“Ben, it's literally not that hard, 8 year olds can do it!”
“Well, I’m an extremely confused 29 year old man, thank you very much!”
And that’s basically how the next 15 minutes went until she finally gave in, allowing Ben to stand behind her, occasionally doing a little move of sorts. The two were in a fit of giggles now, struggling to keep enough composure for long enough to get even one successful video.
“Benjamin Jones! This is the last one, okay?”
He put a hand on his stomach, both of the pair attempting to catch their breath.
“Yes, yes, right okay, got it, last one.”
The little timer button counted down, the sound echoing throughout the property.
The music then started, and she could barely keep a straight face for the 15 seconds. Bored of the routine, but never of her, Ben decided he would grab her and throw her onto the sofa, as payback for all the “TikTok pranks” she would pull on him. He waited for the perfect time to strike (one where she wouldn’t hopefully be too infuriated), restlessly shifting from foot to foot.
Nearing the last few seconds, he made his move. He swooped forward, a high pitched shriek falling from her lips as he wrapped his strong arms around her waist, running and jumping onto the couch, crushing her. He rolled off quickly, and she moved to be on top of him, her hair wildly astray. She sat up, straddling his thighs with a bright smile plastered on her face.
“You little jerk.”
He only smiled boyishly in response, a lovesick gaze set in his eyes.
The song was still playing on repeat as she leaned down, positioning her hands on either side of his head in order to place her lips gently upon his.
“That’s your reward for putting up with me today, Jones.”
He scoffed, taking her by the shoulders and bringing her to his chest. She looked up from where she was now comfortably lying, meeting his homey emerald gaze, his eyes like sea glass that had washed up on white sands, waiting to be rediscovered.
“I feel as if I deserve something more for all of that.”
“Oh, do you?”
He hummed and nodded, closing his eyes. She reached up, placing another peck on his plump lips, before scurrying away to retrieve the phone. He sat up rather quickly at the sudden loss of her body weight, smiling at the sound of her laughter coming towards him.
“Ben, look, it turned out so well.” She managed to slip out before basically throwing him the phone. A grin erupted on his own face soon after, along with the hearty chuckles to match.
He made some commentary on how wonderful it was, before handing her back the device. She moved so she was once more essentially laying on top of Ben, the screen in both of their views.
After sharing a few more laughs over the video, she captioned it and posted it, throwing her phone to get lost in the couch cushions as the likes and comments began to roll in.
She looked up at him once more, and he met her gaze, as he always would, bringing a hand up to tuck a lock of hair behind her ear.
It didn’t leave her cheek, resting there and lightly caressing her skin. The two were most serene then, almost appearing as two felines that had decided to nap during the morning showers, most comforted by each other and the steady sound of the droplets as they pattered.
He was whispering now, the rambunctious energy of the room fading into a much more tranquil and stolid vibe, wrapping the two up like a warm embrace.
“Y’know I really would do anything to make you happy, my love.”
She closed her eyes, taking hold of one of his hands.
He then heard her mutter something like “I know”, and all was well.

1st Album Review
Firstly, Hi! This is my first album review. I'm very excited to get to do this since music is something I really enjoy and I love to talk about it and analyze lyrics (I do take a look on Genius to see what other people, who may know more about the singer and their lyrics to see what they have to say about the song and lyrics.). With that being said, these are all MY personal opinions. Please do not attack me if you do not feel the same. But I am open to hear your opinions in the comments (please be nice and respectful about it). And please be respectful to others too. Anyway, that's it. Please enjoy!!! <3
“Scaled and Icy” By Twenty One Pilots
Release date: Friday May 21st, 2021
Genre: Like a mix of rock, rap and pop.
Tracks-
Good Day: I think this was a good song to open the album with. It has a very upbeat and catchy tune, along with the lyrics. But with that being said, it is definitely different from their past style. But I will go more in depth with that later. Overall for this song I do quite like it, and it seems like something I would play to make myself happier or even just for fun with friends. I give this song a 7.5/10
Choker: This was their second single that they dropped before the album was released. This song's lyrics seem to give off more vibes from their past albums. Mostly “Vessel”. The lyrics that seem to try and sort of hide the pain but also show it in different ways, “Self-sabotage is a sweet romance. Seems like all I'm worth is what I'm able to withstand. Sooner I can realize that pain is the middleman.” These lyrics hit at pain, but hide it with the very upbeat and catchy tune. I give this song 8/10
Shy Away: The first single released before the album. Again sort of like “choker”, these lyrics seem to have vibes or a similar writing style from their past albums. “Shy Away” seems to be about self acceptance. Don't be afraid to be yourself, don't hide the person you are or who you want to be, “Don't you Shy away”. Through the song, the character or person that they may be singing to has a change. In verse two it says, “When you get home. You barely recognize the pictures, they put in a frame.” Sort of showing that you can't find your true self, or can't even see it. Then in verse three it switches, “When I get home. Boy, you better not be there. You're long gone” Now, I think this can mean two different things. Either that their “true self” is gone and that they cant find it or keep pushing it away because they are too scared to be their true self. Or that their old self is gone. They finally shed their skin (“And leave your skin on the floor”) and found themselves and they are able to be themselves. I think that because I really love the meanings and the message behind the lyrics, I'll give this song a 9/10.
The Outside: Again, the beat is very, very catchy. That's the main vibe I get from the album so far. This seems like the first song that really brings out the sort of rap style in different parts of the songs that we saw a lot in their past albums. Though the beat is catchy and so are the lyrics, I’m not a huge fan of this song in particular, 6/10.
Saturday: Their third, and final single (As of 5/21/21). Okay. . .so the beginning sounds like a song they would use on an “Old Navy” commercial. Buuuutttttttt I will say that this song's lyrics are actually quite cool. The chorus seems to align with an old song of theirs, “Migraine” from their 2013 album “Vessel”. “Slow down on Monday. Not a sound on Wednesday. Might get loud, on Friday. But on Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, we paint the town.” I think that the way they describe the days could correlate with the lyrics from Migraine, “Thank God it's Friday, Cause Fridays will always be better than Sundays, Cause Sunday's are my suicide days.” Either saying how, over the time they have gotten better, their days have changed and no longer feel the way they did. I give this a 8/10, mostly for the lyrics and how it may align with their past song.
Never Take It: This song is calling out to everyone. How people are fighting back, fighting to know the truth about our world. Speaking on how people profit off of lies and separating the world from each other. I think this song has a great underlying message. 9/10
Mulberry Street: Fun Fact- Mulberry is actually a real place in New York. This song is like, when you're feeling out of place. You're different and “Everyone relies on synthetic highs” to sort of deal with that, to deal with not having control over everything. I actually really love this one, the beat and the instruments actually feel like “a synthetic high”, it makes me feel light and airy. I love it, 10/10.
Formidable: This song was written by Tyler and is very close to him since it is about his daughter Rosie. With this being said, I’m not going to diss this song because it is something close to him. Plus I think it's a great song and makes me feel happy and like everyone deserves love. 10/10
Bounce Man: Like a man running from maybe his life or trying to find a new life. They are happy and their friends are begging them to come back home. But his friends are trying to know if he is okay while trying to search for him or giving him reasons to bounce back to them. Like almost all of the songs on the album, I truly just adore the beat of the songs, 7/10.
No Chances: This song gives me so many vibes that take me back to their “Trench” album and era Sort of a dark, twisted beat with lyrics that make you feel like people are after you. 9/10, because I love the way it gives me “Trench” vibes.
Redecorate: This song ends the story. But it actually tells a story of the story in the album. . .does that make sense? Through the album we hear a story of this person who seems to be running in circles trying to find themself, to try and be a better person. In the end they find a way that they can change their life, using the metaphor, “Should I keep it on display? Or redecorate?” 10/10
Recap: Going into this album review, I was scared that I wouldn't like it that much. Since I, and many others, were so used to their old style of music, this was a big change. But with the big change there is a lot of good that comes from it. With this album, Tyler and Josh both seem much happier, like they are in a better head space. And I am so thankful for that, because even though they gave us great music in the past, they really were not in the best head space. I feel like many people have pushed away from “Scaled and Icy” because of the change. But I would much rather Tyler and Josh to give us a different style of music, than to stay how they were. I can't express how proud I am of the both of them, not only for getting help but for fighting through what they did. And for giving us a great album that we can cherish. It is truly amazing.
I love the story that comes with the lyrics, how it shows that even if you're an “outcast” you can still be amazing and push through. You can still become the person you achieve to be. Some songs in the album have a truly great message behind them, and I think that's import. Since many people these days spend forever idolizing their idols or favorite band, they look up to them and it makes a huge part of who they are. So I find it important that artists speak on issues in today's society and pledge for a better life in the world we live in.
My final rating. . .8.5/10.

an enternity ₊˚.ੈ♡˳ park seonghwa
pairing ₊˚.ੈ♡˳ park seonghwa and reader
genre ₊˚.ੈ♡˳ songfic | pure fluff
associated song ₊˚.ੈ♡˳ i love you 3000 by stephanie poetri
synopsis ₊˚.ੈ♡˳ the idea of spending the rest of your life with seonghwa was more than lovely
tags ₊˚.ੈ♡˳ non idol! seonghwa | established relationship | white suit seonghwa so pls survive
baby take my hand, I want you to be my husband
you slowly breathed in the morning breeze that was mixed with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and take in the sunlight peeling through the fabric curtains. You grip the white entangled sheets. You turn and see that Seonghwa was already up, and something was blocking the sunlight.
cus' your my iron man, and I love you 3000
your eyes darted seonghwa. Blissfully bathing in sunlight as pulls his shirt over his head to dispose of it. The hazy morning basks the both of you. He heard the sheets tussle and turns to the sound. A small smile appears on his face. He walks closer to the bed and sits beside you.
baby take a chance, cause' I want this to be something, straight out of a hollywood movie
he takes the cup of coffee that was on his bedside table and offers it to you. “ Morning, love. “ he greets you. You reply with a smile and push his hand that was holding the coffee away.
“ We've been dating for a while now shouldn't you know I don't like coffee? “ you ask with a small laugh. He looks down at the steaming hot coffee and ushers out a giggle. “ Any person can change, you know. “
you playfully scoff. He sets down the mug and helps you up. He takes the hair tie that was on your wrist and turns you around, so now he's facing your back. You soon felt your hair being touched and figured he was tying it up for you.
Nothing can stop that wide smile from appearing on your face. He fumbled and played with it until it seemed correct. He turned you around again and places a small peck on your nose.
“ Since we have a flight to catch in a few hours, let's get changed, hm? “
see you standing there, in your hulk outer wear
After you finish wearing your comfortable ensemble, you go back to the bed. In seonghwa's eyes, wearing a sweater wasn't enough. So he nudged your shoulder and gently threw one of his hoodies to you. You gladly take it and wear it. The scent you could recognize within a second and the feeling of him hugging you was what made his jackets so perfect.
and all I can think is where is the ring
You put on a pair of your sneakers, the one he gifted on your six month anniversary. And seonghwa being the gentleman he is, he saw you and knelt down. He holds your hands first before picking up the loose shoelaces and tying them.
It was the little things he did. That made you happy.
You didn't question it and went along with it. He drove you both to the airport, it was still early morning so no cars would disturb both of you. He gave you the signal to take a nap and you did as so, passing out almost immediately. All while so, he never lifted his hand from your thigh.
cause' I know you wanna ask, scared the moment will pass
He woke you up from your deep slumber and led you out of the car. He held both his and your suitcases into the airport. And even if you were willing to start an argument, you were too sleepy to do so. You waited for a couple of hours before your flight was taking place.
He held your small figure when you two were boarding the plane. He had this inner fear that he'd lose you. He grips your shoulders tight as the flight attendant guides you to your seats.
I can see it in your eyes, just take me by surprise
seonghwa held your hand tight. The take-off was smooth, but his fear of heights took over him. It jolts you awake how he held your hand. You saw his terrified expression and you knew what you had to do.
Your other free hand gripped his cheek, you tilted his head a bit so now he was looking at you. “ Look at me. Just look at me seonghwa. It's alright, I'm here. “ you caressed his smooth cheek with your thumb.
He closed his eyes and melted in your touch, enduring the consuming fear he had.
and all my friends they tell me they see, your planing to get on one knee
a few times did seonghwa's friends hint about him and the ring he bought beforehand, but you shrugged it off and took it as teasing.
but I want it to be out of the blue, make sure I have no clue, when you ask
You were lying if you said you hadn't thought about marrying seonghwa. He was the perfect man. Treated you with love. Made sure to make time for you. Constantly gives you gifts and such. How could you not?
baby take my hand, I want you to be my husband
time skip to later night. You two already settled down in your hotel room. The suite was more than luxurious, it was more than you imagined. A bed as soft as the clouds looked, a bathtub overlooking hundreds of buildings.
cause' your my iron man
he took both of you to a very expensive place. All prim and proper, exquisite and excellent, and made for the rich. Seonghwa advised you to wear the dress he bought you. A beautiful beige dress with silk as it's fabric. Spaghetti straps and skirt hugged your body in the right way.
He led you to the rooftop that was decorated with fairy lights, your favorite flowers, a calm and peaceful artificial waterfall filled the dry silence. He walked you over to the main part of the entire rooftop, you could tell at the number of fairy lights lit up the spot, a vintage radio played your favorite music. And although it changed often, he took note of what you always hum to when you would clean or cook.
Your heart started beating faster, you bit your inner cheek. You were awed by the city, it lights lighting up everything. You gasped when you heard the song that was playing. An old one but nonetheless you loved it. Diamonds are a girl's best friend was what was playing. You hum along to the catchy lyrics as seonghwa clears his throat and specks of dust away from his fancy all-white suit.
You were busy exploring the place with your eyes to notice seonghwa getting on one knee. By the time you looked back and looked down, a gasp immediately escapes your mouth.
Your hands covered your mouth and your eyesight became blurry in an instant. “ It's been two years since we met, from when I met you when you newly moved into when I remember asking you on our first date. I was so shy and nervous back then. But after spending time with you, learning to love someone, and learning that someone loves me, happy anniversary my love. I'm now sure “ he paused and took a deep breath. He opened the small box to reveal a shiny diamond ring. Your eyes shone brighter than the diamond itself. A tear dropped from the corner of your eye. He smiles at you before saying;
“ Now I want to spend eternity with you. “
and I love you 3000

anon asked: Hey there! Can I req some drabbles of the TFP Megatron, Soundwave, Dreadwing and Ratchet not liking vocal human music, but they here their human s/o singing to themselves and immediately fall in love with their voice and get over their dislike over the music and even have their s/o sing for them from time to time. I love your writing so much! Have a nice day💜
[recognize these headcanons? this is a repost from my old blog ‘ohscraptfphcs!’ You will see this disclaimer above all of the content i have moved from my previous blogs.]
Megatron Ever since coming to Earth, Megatron found a distaste for many human things: amusement parks, pets, and most of all: human vocal music… It irritated his ears most definitely, but it proved to be quite distracting. He demanded every Vehicon stop playing it, or else they’d face the consequences. But it’s just another day when he happens to hear something beautiful coming from his s/o’s quarters. He tiptoes forward and presses his ear to the door to hear his s/o singing sweet melodies. Without thinking, he moves to open the door, causing his s/o to shut off the music in embarrassment. “I-I’m sorry, I hope I wasn’t being–” “Not at all, my dear.” There was a pause before he continued. “Might you sing more for me? Your singing has, changed my mind about human music.” The rest of the night, Megatron spends his time relaxing with his s/o, listening to their singing as they both drift to sleep. Soundwave He couldn’t quite get over it. Soundwave would frequent the Internet in his free time, mostly looking for anything of use to Megatron. But every single time, he’d come across human music, and to be honest, he’d grown to dislike it. More often than not, it annoyed him and made it hard for him to focus on his work. So you can imagine his irritancy when he hears the beginning of one of his least favorite songs that he’s heard around, and just when he’s about to start his new report no less. He’s about to charge towards whoever it is until he hears the lovely voice of his s/o harmonizing with the beat. Suddenly all of his anger melts away, and he sits himself back down at his workstation, relaxing and sighing contently. Soundwave doesn’t approach his s/o right away, instead deciding to catch them the next day in the hallway. “You sounded lovely yesterday.” At first they don’t respond, too embarrassed having been heard by their Con boyfriend. “T-thank you, Sounds. I thought you didn’t like, er, Earth music.” “Looks like you changed my mind.” Dreadwing “Turn that off.” “Sir?” “You heard me, turn that horrid sound off!” Dreadwing was once again unpleased with a Vehicon worker, who had a bit of human vocal music playing while he worked. Unfortunately for him, Dreadwing had a deep distaste for it. “At once!” “Hold on! Don’t turn it off, I love this song!” Out of nowhere, Dreadwing’s s/o came strolling in, singing along with the song as they walked up to the tall bot asking to be placed on his shoulder. Dreadwing’s spark melted a bit at their beautiful voice, his dislike for the music starting to dissipate. “What can you hate about this music, Dreadwing? It’s so catchy!” As they continued to sing, he couldn’t help but lose himself a bit. He was undoubtedly the luckiest mech there ever was, to have such an amazing s/o to call his. He promptly snapped out of it when the music stopped. “Maybe human music, isn’t so bad after all, love.” Ratchet He isn’t going to admit his sudden interest in human music so soon. It was a late night at base, and Ratchet was staying up to do some extra work and research as per usual. It would’ve been a normal quiet evening if he hadn’t heard the rumbling of music coming from somewhere nearby. Ratchet knew Miko had gone home hours earlier, so it couldn’t have been her music. But it didn’t even really matter to him, human music annoyed him to no end anyways. He tried to focus but his still sharp audio receptors got the better of him, forcing him to listen to the quiet but still audible lyrics. It was only when he heard his s/o singing along did he suddenly calm down. They could’ve been yodeling for Primus’ sake and he would’ve fallen in love all over again anyways. But now his s/o was teasing him about it, and he wasn’t about to say it right away. “C’mon, just admit it! You like human music now! I heard you humming along with it while I was singing!” “What if I was simply enjoying your singing and not that wretched noise you call music.” His s/o sharpened their gaze to look at their boyfriend, knowing when he was lying. “You can’t lie to me, Ratch!” “Oh, Primus help me.”

JANUARY FAVORITES
A little overdue, like most of my habits are, but here’s a little collection of my favorite music from January!
FAVORITE SINGLES (in no particular order)
1. Head On Fire - Sigrid & Griff
Even though I haven’t listened much to Griff before, I can recognize that this is a strong pop collab that had the potential to be extraordinary and was. “Head On Fire” is a harmonious mix between Sigrid’s and Griff’s signature sounds, and it manages to capture both something that sounds new yet timeless, as if it was released decades ago. It successfully caters to both their strengths, and made me want to listen to Griff more than I have before.
2. Payback (feat. Knucks) - Kojey Radical
I’ve never listened to either of these guys before I came across this on a New Music Friday. The new music playlists that Friday was extremely hip-hop heavy, and most of what I went through felt extremely uninspired to me, so I was ready to give up when this started playing halfway through the list. As someone who has only really listened to hip-hop semi-actively for five years, I’m more drawn to catchy hooks and beats with something unique and something “extra”. While most mainstream hip-hop does have that to some extent, a lot can end up being very uniform and repetitive, which is why I really appreciate it when something catches my ear in a way that other songs don’t. This song is funky, catchy and it was nice to hear a new, different voice. I definitely will be checking out both Kojey and Knucks more after this.
3. all my ghosts - Lizzy McAlpine
I’m surprised that this is a song I deem worth mentioning, because it balances on the line of being too indie for my taste. It’s not like I don’t like indie music, I just often find it wildly uninteresting, and I am after all, more of a pop girl. I do, however, really enjoy both the production and the melody of this song. It’s repetitive enough that it sticks to my brain, and the way the song is built up makes it interesting enough to keep my attention. Lizzy also has an amazing, soothing voice.
4. How Long - Tove Lo
Charlie Puth outsold. Tove Lo rarely ever misses, and this hits just the spot. The BLUE LIPS (2017) sound fits the vibe of Euphoria so well, so it feels just right that she delved into that era to make this song for the show. I also have a weak spot for sad, emotional songs with an upbeat production. You know, the whole crying on the dance floor vibe? The lyrics fit a prominent storyline of the season well, the melody is so deeply melancholic and addicting, but you also just have to vibe to it because of the production? Perfection from Tove Lo, once again.
5. I’ll Never Not Love You - Michael Bublé
Is this as good of as a song as the others I’ve mentioned? No. Is it one of Michael Bublé’s better songs? Hm, maybe. Maybe not. Will I still mention it just because it’s Michael Bublé? Yes. It’s cheesy and it follows a pretty simple formula. But slap his voice on anything and I will worship it. I’m a simple girl - I see Michael Bublé, I like.
Honorable mentions: Next To Normal - Lucius (for fans of Jessie Ware, Tame Impala) / Night Call - Years & Years / Fallen Angel - Bernhoft / Tusen Tårer RifMix - Arif
FAVORITE ALBUMS: (in no particular order)
1. Dawn FM - The Weeknd
I, along with the rest of the world, have been obsessed with the sound that he brought with After Hours (2020) and honestly? I think he did it better this time around. After following the internet’s opinion on it, it seems like liking Dawn FM more than After Hours is an unpopular opinion, but I stand by it. The latter didn’t particularly stick with me, and while I highly appreciate the singles that came out of it, I didn’t care for the deep cuts, and therefore didn’t care much for the album. I have yet to revisit it since Dawn FM, and I realize that I probably have to, because I’m almost sure I’ll end up liking it a lot more because of this. Anyway. I love the transitions in this album, I love the entire run from the first track all the way to “Best Friends”, I love the radio theme and I love that it dives into that 80s and early 90s sound. I find the second half of the album a lot weaker, although “Less Than Zero” is a solid track and worthy of a single status. I have a feeling this is an album that will be hard to beat for the Album of the Year title.
Favorite tracks: How Do I Make You Love Me, Take My Breath, Sacrifice, Best Friends, Gasoline, Out of Time
2. Are We Gonna Be Alright? - Fickle Friends
I only knew of one of their songs before I listened to this album, but I was glad to find out that the rest of the songs had a similar vibe. The song I’m talking about is “Pretty Great”, a song I think was on my Discover Weekly sometime in 2020. I didn’t realize that it took them two whole years to make an album and still put this song on it, but I’m glad they did. If you like energetic, electric indie pop with a lot of electric guitar, then this is a treat for you. It has something for fans of dance-y, disco-y tracks, rock-oriented songs and indie vibe-y songs. I’m sorry that my vocabulary is so lacking that I have to add a -y to every word, but that’s just how it is.
Favorite tracks: Glow, Pretty Great, Love You To Death, Write Me A Song
3. Fix Yourself, Not The World - The Wombats
I went into this album not expecting to really like it, mostly because I had never listened to a Wombats album before in my life. But the energetic kicker of an opening song, “Flip Me Upside Down”, hit me so hard that I became very excited going into this. Was only slightly disappointed when the rest of the album wasn’t as good as that song, but it made for a new, exciting addition to my music library. It’s not the kind of music I normally would go for, but there’s something about their energy that made this album the exception. Unfortunately, I can’t compare it to their other music as I’m not familiar with it, but if their discography is as fun as this one, I think I can call myself a fan.
Favorite tracks: Flip Me Upside Down, If You Ever Leave, I’m Coming With You, Method To The Madness, Wildfire
Honorable mention: 25 - D’Sound, a total vibe for funky soul lovers with a lot of exciting features like Macy Gray and Shontelle! The lyricism is a weak point on this album, though.
FAVORITE DISCOVERIES: (in no particular order)
Also known as: I’m stupid enough to have slept on these or was just a little too late finding out about these.
1. In The Meantime - Alessia Cara
I didn’t know Alessia Cara released an album in 2021. And I also just realized I still have her previous album in my “to-listen” list, and that came out in 2018... I was surprised how solid this album was, and I was kind of upset that I didn’t know about it until last month! Underrated artist, underrated album.
Favorite tracks: Bluebird, Lie To Me, Somebody Else
2. Raketter - TØFL
This could actually qualify to be under “favorite singles” because it was released the last week of December, so it’s not like I could include it on a December list even if I tried. Still. I don’t have a lot of success paying attention or even liking Norwegian bands, but TØFL easily became my favorite Norwegian band/group the moment I heard them. It’s even better that they’re from the same area as me, therefore sharing my dialect, which means I can sing along to their songs exactly how I talk. If you speak a language with widely different dialects, you’ll understand what a struggle this can be. Their music is so funny (yes, funny), energetic and just feel-good. It’s silly, but not goofy in a way that makes it parodic. This song is no exception of this description. They also manage to be so silly with their lyrics, yet they’re always so honest and authentic. While this particular song isn’t silly, the vibe of the production is so playful that you don’t realize that the song isn’t particularly positive at all. A few of their songs are like that, actually.
3. Stand Up - Tierra Whack
Another December track that was completely off my radar until recently. It’s so simple and effective, and I love her flow and energy in this. Tierra Whack has been on my radar for quite a while - I keep seeing her name, and I keep thinking that I’ll check her out but somehow I never do. This song finally catching my attention is just what I need to keep my eyes and ears open.
4. MUST BE - Lou Phelps
I’m always looking for funky and groovy tracks, and I came across this when I randomly decided to listen to my Spotify-curated “Funk Mix”. I actually added this to my playlist just because I thought he said “Oslo” in this song, although in hindsight it made no sense for the song overall. Luckily, I ended up listening to this song a lot anyway, so it was worth it!
5. run away - MIXIE
A cute little bop that seems to be growing - it had 10k streams when I first found it and is at 76k right now. As this appeared on my Discover Weekly, and this is the only song by this artist on Spotify, I have absolutely no idea who they are and what the story is. But judging by this song, they have a lot of potential, and I hope there’ll be more releases soon!

American Pie--Jason Todd.
author’s note: this has been on my drafts for an eternity. I finished this out of pure self-pressure and shame instileld by a tag game @batarella tagged me. I literally finished this in the treadmill, which I found is my favorite place to write.I wanna thank @batarella and @offendedfishnoises for being real troopers and encouraging me and proofreading this.
words: 2284
Beware: curse words (cause i’m a potty mouth), Jason being a shy pinning boy. I reccomend you listen to (or at least look at the lyrics for) American Pie by Don McLean and OUr Song by Taylor Swift.
Silence.
Excruciating silence. That was what Jason remembered from death.
He remembered thinking ‘This will be the day that I die,’ before the world turning black and silence overtook his entire being killing what was left of his soul.
After that it is all he remembered: silence.
He used to think music was everything. When he was bored, he used to bolt out to the most random songs in his room at the Wayne Manor, to the point of an angry Bruce storming to his room and quietly turning down the volume.
It took him a while to look fondly at those memories, and he still wasn’t sure if he did look at them like that. He was at the point of just thinking of them as just that: memories so far away from who he was, he considered them to belong to a different person entirely.
Music just didn’t hold the same wonder and joy as it did. Jason didn’t belt out whatever song he wanted anymore, he just idly stood by as any song came on whatever radio he was listening while he waited on his patrols.
It was like the music died with him.
He sipped his drink as a light jazzy tune sounded in the background of his mind. He didn’t pay any attention to it, rather he was engrossed in his own sorrow to listen to any of the diner’s songs.
He hummed in indifference, looking up from his cup and looking around. It was the middle of the afternoon, and the diner was mostly empty. There was a girl in the back, messing with the jukebox. Jason took a good look at her.
She was wearing a plaid skirt, with a bright orange cropped blouse. She wore her hair loose. She looked too engrossed in her song choice to realize anyone looking at her. He glanced at the table next to her: filled with books and old cups he assumed were once filled with coffee.
He heard an angry curse and saw her shaking aggressively the jukebox. “You, know,” he spoke up, “I’m not an expert on jukeboxes or anythin’ but I’m pretty sure that’s not how they work.”
She looked at him bewildered. She narrowed her eyes at him, almost as if she were trying to dissect him in a split second. “This machine swallowed my quarter and will not let me select a song.”
He abandoned his cup and got up, heading towards the weird lady. “Let me see if I can help.”
She stepped aside and left room for him to see what happened. “By all means.”
He quickly analyzed it. He glanced at the woman next to him, her arms crossed over her chest, meticulously analyzing what Jason was doing. He hit the spot next to the coin slot and heard the coin going down the mechanism. He got up and said: “There. All fixed.”
“I can’t believe it!” she exclaimed. “I’ve been trying forever to get this thing to work and you come here and just make it work in seconds.” She turned to the jukebox and muttered, “Don’t you love me anymore, you silly machine?”
Jason laughed. “I’m Jason,” he said, extending his hand.
She took it and shook it. “I’m Y/N.”
“Well,” Jason stated awkwardly, “I’ll leave you to it, then.”
“No, wait!” she said. “Sit with me. I see you’re there all alone, and I need someone to listen to my thesis,” she explained. “You seem like a nice guy, you know? What do you say? I’ll buy you a milkshake,” she smiled.
Jason pondered. It wasn’t like he had anything else to do. And maybe a little company would do him well. She seemed perfectly nice, albeit a little weird. Why not?
“What are you working on?” he said, sitting opposite to where she was.
She smiled and went on and on about her research. To be completely honest, Jason only understood about half of what she was saying, and every time he made a funny face she would pause and patiently explain it again until his face melted into something resembling understanding. She would smile at him, and his heart hiccupped every time she did.
She bought him a drink, and they stayed at the diner for a while. Jason discovered she wasn't from Gotham--not that it was hard to see, she had invited a complete stranger to sit with her in a shady diner in one of the worst neighborhoods of the city. She was a student, getting her master's in something too complicated to explain in the hours they spent together. Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she talked about her research. Jason liked that.
He offered to walk her home. She refused. He smiled and gave her a knowing look. "Listen, I'm sure you know Gotham ain't a safe city,” he said. "Imagine it at night," he should know. He was a witness and victim of the horrors of Gotham.
She budged. He carried her books for her. She seemed grateful. She tried the whole afternoon to get him to talk about himself. Jason didn't want to scare her off, so he gave her the bare minimum. Do you have a degree? No, but I'd like to. What do you do? I'm a freelancer. Do you have any siblings? No.
Looking back at the moment she stood in front of her building, lit by streetlights, eyes twinkling with something Jason wouldn't recognize until much later, he knew he should have kissed her. He shouldn't have held her at arm’s length for so long. Alas, he had. He didn't kiss her. She says he was a perfect gentleman. He knows that. It doesn't mean he doesn't have regrets.
She gave him her phone number. "I liked talking to you. If you're ever around the diner again, call me. I'll save all the good stuff for you," she winked. He laughed. He saved her phone number as if it was the most precious thing in the world. It kinda was.
#
#
He texted her. He went to the diner, intentionally. He had to see her.
No, he didn't. He didn't have to see her. If he didn't, it would have been another 'what if' of his life. He would survive, and maybe regret that he had chosen what he had chosen. The difference was he wanted to see her. And he hadn't done something he wanted in a very long time.
He was the first to arrive. He sat by the window, looking at the city. The sun was setting, there was an orange glow illuminating the diner. He awkwardly fiddled with his straw, stirring the milkshake (strawberry as always, he wasn't an animal like Tim) calmly. He heard the bell ringing.
She walked in and Jason swore she was an angel. The light hugged her, and he thought she was there to save him. Save him from himself, from the nightmares, from his job, from his trauma. She smiled at him and he was goner. Second time seeing her and he was gone. He fell for her.
She was wearing glasses, her hair tied, sweatpants and a Gotham University t-shirt. Her bag hung from her shoulder, her hand wrapped tightly around the strap. She wasn’t nowhere near as dressed up as last time he saw her. It didn't matter. She was beautiful either way. She fixed her glasses as she sat in front of him.
She ordered some tea, and Jason thought who orders tea in a diner. She did. Y/N was extraordinary that way. She said she had thought about him. He somehow believed her. He smiled back at her and sipped his milkshake.
“I brought you something,” she said. She dug through her purse and took out a book. She slid it to him over the table. His hands unfurled from his cup and grabbed it. His eyes skimmed over the hardcover. Shakespeare’s Sonnets. A rare edition at that. “I think you might've read it already,” she shrugged. “You mentioned you liked Shakespeare. I was walking through a book shop near the University and I saw this edition and I thought of you.”
Jason flipped through the book, the smell of dust filing his senses. That was the smell of a good book. A book that had seen many lives. He loved it. He looked at her, her eyes expecting a reaction of him. He offered her a shy smile. She took it and her smile was so bright it almost blinded him. “Thank you. I—I— It’s very thoughtful of you.”
“You’re welcome, Jason,” she replied. “I thought you would like it.”
“Yeah,” he breathed out. He held back once again. He wanted to tell her that he loved it. That it was probably one of the best gifts he had ever received. “I liked it.”
She reclined on the seat and smirked. “It’s quiet here, isn’t it?” she said. Jason looked at her quizzically, his hands resting on the book. He saw her get up from her seat, a coin on her hand. She put the quarter on the jukebox and selected a song. She seemed proud of herself as Jason watched her with nothing but wonder. She sat in front of him again, as a piano played on the background and a voice of a man sounded through the tune.
“I love this song,” she stated. “Don’t you?”
Jason shrugged. “I don’t know it.”
She was shocked. “You don’t? That’s a first. Someone that doesn’t know ‘American Pie’.”
“Isn’t that a movie?” he asked. With the limited popular culture knowledge he had, he still knew some things.
“Yes it is, but it was a song before that. By Don McLean. 1971,” she hummed with the tune. “It’s like poetry.”
He gave her a funny face. “I hardly think it’s like poetry.”
She gasped, pretending to be offended. “Betrayal,” she whispered, but soon after she smiled. “It’s because you’re not appreciating it enough,” she answered. She grabbed another quarter of her purse and got up. She pointed to him as she walked to the jukebox. “Listen to it and pay attention.”
“Fine,” Jason huffed. He didn’t want to tell her that his appreciation for music had died with him. Not yet.
He listened to it. Really did. Truthfully, he hadn’t understood a single word of what he meant, but Y/N seemed happy that at least he had somewhat liked the song. It was catchy. But he would hardly classify it as poetry.
"I'll convince you. Music is everything," she said.
So it began her quest to culture Jason, as she called it. He found it endearing to say the least. His judgement was seriously clouded.
She would send recommendations to him, writing extensively how these songs were everything to her. Because of that Jason would pay extra attention to it.
It felt strangely personal to listen to them with them in mind. It was like listening to a part of her soul. It might as well be that. She was entrusting him with a part of her, and he wasn't exactly worthy of that.
He felt dangerously unprotected around her. Jason was constantly toying with the line between keeping up his eccentric bad boy façade and opening his heart to her. Who was he kidding? He already had opened his heart to her. He just hadn't told her yet. He didn't know if he was going to.
Reading the sonnets suddenly felt extremely personal too. It wasn't about appreciating art anymore. He was living the love poems. He was feeling everything Shakespeare was describing. Desperation rose in him the first time he realized that.
How was he supposed to continue with his job--oh God, his job--when there was someone out there that cared if he was dead or alive? How was he going to blackmail a drug lord when he himself could be blackmailed? What was he going to say to Bruce? What was he supposed to do?
A soft pop song played on the radio. They were going through pop songs now. Y/N had said it was imperative that he'd listen to Taylor Swift. And Jason could admit she had a point.
As he drove through the quiet highway, his hand itched to hold hers. They were driving to Metropolis. She had said there was an exhibit that they couldn't miss. A science exhibit. Jason didn't care for science, but she did, and seeing her with that glint in her eyes was the best part of his day.
Fuck it, he thought. His hand left the shift and encapsulated hers. He could feel her gaze on him, he knew she was smiling. His heart almost jumped out of his chest. Thank God, he was alive.
She turned down the volume of the song. His eyes shifted to hers for a second, her expression neutral. "What's wrong?" He said, his voice bordering desperation.
"We don't have a song," she said, quietly. "We don't have a song," she repeated.
Jason's worry dissipated into thin air, and he opened a smile. "Of course we do."
"How? I don't remember ever--" she trailed off, looking confused at him. His eyes once again went to her, his smile soft.
"How about laughs, the soft sound of cars outside? The jazzy tune you always play on the fucking jukebox," he heard her laugh, his hands squeezed hers. "Reciting poems, you rambling about whatever you discovered? Huh?" he hummed. "That's our song."
She smiled at him one again. And that was when he knew what he was supposed to do.
He was supposed to live. And he was going to live with her by his side.

i don't know what to be without you around
Fandom: Supergirl Rating: K Pairings: None A/N: I fully intended for this to just be a goofy headcanon and then WHOOPS it turned into Danvers Sisters feelings. (Not k*lex. If I see it tagged as such, ya get BLOCKED.) Short. 99% fluff. Probably contains spelling errors. You’ve been warned.
...
Then
Occasionally, Alex would regret all the time and effort she'd wasted focusing on the downsides of having been thrust into elder sibling-dom. Because while, yes, a lot of the changes that occurred in the Danvers household upon Kara's arrival were...not great...there were definitely some perks to having a sister.
Like the simple satisfaction of a perfectly timed, “Shotgun!” victory.
“What?” Kara protested, her yawn undercutting her indignation. “You can't call shotgun yet, we don't leave for another hour.”
“You snooze you lose,” Alex told her, giving her a pointed look as she yawned again. “Literally.”
Kara rolled her eyes and returned to stuffing pairs of t-shirts and shorts into her duffle bag. Alex did the same, surveying her own bag to see if she'd missed anything. Bug spray, maybe?
She turned to head out into the hall, but Kara stood in her path, wearing a sly smile.
Alex didn't like the look of it. Not one bit.
“What's with the face?” she asked, attempting to sidestep around her younger sister. Kara easily blocked her, and crossed her arms.
“Okay, you get shotgun,” she said. Alex blinked.
“Uh, yeah. I know. I called it.”
“Which means,” Kara continued, complete with dramatic pause for full effect, but Alex already knew what was coming. The second half of the rule...how could she have forgotten. How could she have been so foolish. “I get to pick the music.”
Alex groaned in dismay.
“Kara, no.”
----------------------------------
It would take them four hours to get to the Tuolumne Meadows campground. Alex sighed, and rested her head against the passenger-side window. That meant four rounds of Fearless, though it was more likely that Kara would just play the same five or six songs she'd been listening to on repeat ever since she bought the album.
“Can't we listen to something else? Please?” Alex begged.
Kara smirked, and turned the volume up.
But of course, her mom immediately turned it back down, giving Kara a stern look in the rearview mirror.
“Kara,” she said in a tone that suggested, knock it off.
Kara quickly cowed, retreating further into the safety of the backseat. “Sorry, Eliza.”
“Great,” Alex said, sitting up straighter in her seat. “Now get her to play something else.”
“Alex, just listen to your iPod, if you don't like Kara's music,” her mom suggested. Alex sank back into the seat.
“...It's not charged.” There was a snort from the backseat. Alex glared into the rearview mirror. “Because someone lost their chord and was hogging mine this morning.”
Kara shrugged, and smirked that same insufferable smirk.
“You snooze you lose.”
----------------------------------
Four hours and what felt like a billion playthroughs of “Forever and Always” later, they arrived at the campsite, the interminable car ride almost instantly forgotten as the rocky banks of the river came into view. Alex had been here before, years ago on a father-daughter camping trip, but it was Kara's first time. As they filed out of the car and began to pull duffle bags and ice chests from the trunk, she turned to gaze out at the trees, taking a deep, calming breath.
Alex joined her, and gave her shoulder a good natured nudge. “It's nice, huh?”
“Yeah,” Kara agreed. “It's...a softer kind of noisy, than Midvale,” she explained with a happy sigh. And then, after a moment, she said, “...Sorry for being a jerk, in the car.”
“It's fine,” Alex shrugged. “Here, grab the tent.” Kara lifted the gear with ease, and followed Alex over to a level patch of dirt. “I just don't get how you can listen to the same, like, five songs.” She gestured for Kara to dump out the contents of the tent.
“No super speed, Kara!” Eliza called from the car. “You'll kick up too much dust!”
“Okay!” Kara called back as Alex began sorting the pieces. Kara stooped to help her. “They're good songs. You listen to your favorites a lot.” And Alex had to pause and silently admit, that was true.
“Yeah, but not over and over,” Alex finally said. “I'd get tired of them.” Which was also true. She remembered liking that Fray song, once upon a time, but now, it just annoyed her, any time it played on the radio.
Kara shook her head at Alex’s remark. “I don’t. There's something new, every time.”
Alex glanced over at her, ready with a retort—how could there be anything new in Taylor Swift songs? Weren't they all just...basically the same thing? First dates at fifteen, feeling fearless in the rain at 2AM?
But Kara's eyes were bright behind her glasses as she enthusiastically went on. “Like, sometimes, I'll just listen to the rhythm, or the vocals, or I'll pick out my favorite sounds, and it makes the whole song brand new again.”
Alex narrowed her eyes. “So...it's an alien ears thing, or...?”
Kara considered the question as they continued to put the tent together—they'd located all the poles and stakes, and were maneuvering the tarps into place. “...Maybe?” She said.
Alex kept working on the tent, waiting for Kara to continue, perhaps offer some sort of additional explanation. When she didn’t, Alex looked up to see that Kara’s eyes were on the tree canopy overhead. Her expression was neutral, but Alex had come to recognize that particular look.
She was listening.
To what, Alex didn't know.
“Yeah,” she said after a time. “Yeah, I think it is an alien ears thing.” She smiled. “I like the way guitars sound.”
Alex might've teased her about that, if Kara hadn't sounded so achingly sincere. Did they have guitars, on Krypton? Alex couldn’t remember Kara saying anything about music from her home world. Alex knew it probably wasn’t the case, but she imagined it being a lot of...synth-y sci-fi stuff.
She considered asking Kara about it, but decided against it--sometimes, Kara would get...weird, about such topics, and they were having a nice time. Alex didn’t want to ruin it.
So instead, she feigned offense. “Well, if you like guitars, I don't see why you don't like my music.”
Kara emphatically shook her head.
“Your music is loud.”
Alex started feeding one of the poles through the tent material. “Um, yes? That's the best part?”
“Yeah, no thanks,” Kara chuckled as she hammered a stake in place. The repeated the process at each corner, and soon enough, the tent was upright, and ready for them to store their gear inside. “It's loud and it's so emo.”
Alex snorted, heading for their pile of backpacks and duffle bags.
“Okay, Miss 'Romeo save me I've been feeling so alone'.”
FWUMP.
A sleeping bag collided with Alex's right arm.
“That song is great!” Kara insisted, already reaching for more ammo with a wide smile.
“That's not even how the play goes!” Alex teased her. “Right? Aren't you like, the Romeo and Juliet expert?”
FWUMP. The second sleeping bag hit home, but Alex didn't care. She was having fun.
“That's not the point, and you know it!”
“See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns, see you make your way through the crowd--” Alex thought she was safe, as there were no more sleeping bags.
But Kara had found their pillows.
FWUMP. FWUMP.
She laughed again, careful not to let the pillows fall in the dirt. And she was just about ready to give Kara a taste of her own medicine, when she saw that sly smile once more.
Oh, no.
“Hey, Alex, if you hate the song so much,” Kara said with a knowing look, “how come you know all the words?”
Well, shoot.
“...Cause...you play it all the time. Obviously.”
“And you’ve listened close enough each time to learn all the lyrics?”
Alex scowled. “...I mean. It’s...it’s kind of catchy, I guess.”
Kara beamed.
“Ha! I knew—”
Alex hurled both pillows at her.
FWUMP!
----------------------------------
Now
Alex lets out a relieved sigh.
Kara is back.
Kara is safe.
Kara appears to be whole and...mostly healthy. Her sodium levels are low enough to give Alex some pause, and her right leg shows signs of muscle strain, but otherwise...
“Can I go home now?” Kara's voice is raspy from fatigue. Alex shakes her head.
“Not yet,” she says. “Sodium has to be administered slowly. It's gonna take a while.”
Alex expects some sort of pushback, or protest, but Kara just offers a small hum of understanding. She really is tired, Alex realizes.
“But hey, good news,” Alex adds with forced brightness, “you do get to eat in about,” she consults her watch, “fifteen minutes, or so. Anything you want. Me and Kelly are buying.”
This earns a groggy grin from Kara, and Alex stores the image in her mind, filed under 'reassurances that Kara is still Kara, even after...everything.'
“A dangerous offer,” Kara jokes.
“Well. It...would not be the first time we bought a mountain of food, to welcome you home,” she admits. Kara shoots her a sad, questioning look, but Alex pointedly ignores it. “So. What'll it be? Pick your poison.”
Her sister's brow furrows in thought. “Um. I guess...whatever will get here fastest?” she suggests. “I'm starving.”
“Ah. We all had a feeling you might be, so,” Alex scoots her stool across the room and extracts a plastic bag from under one of the lab tables. “Snack run,” she says, revealing the spoils with a flourish. Kara laughs outright. It's soft, but it's the strongest she's sounded since returning from the Phantom Zone.
“Thank you,” she says. But Alex taps her watch.
“Still have eight minutes to go,” she reminds her. Kara nods obediently, though she's already sifting through the bag.
“I assume the apples and olives are from Brainy,” she says.
“He swears by that combo,” Alex tells her. “Don't worry, I'm pretty sure J'onn put some actual sustenance in there. You know. Red Vines. Pretzels. The good stuff.”
“...What's this?” Kara asks, and Alex wonders if Brainy perhaps added other questionable food combinations, but the item Kara pulls from the bag isn't one of the snacks.
“Oh.” Alex rubs her arm, a little self consciously. She forgot she left that in there. “That's just...” She pauses. “...I saw that. While you were...” Alex tries to think of a good word for it, but there isn’t one. “...away. I guess I thought...that if I got it. It...was like a promise. That we'd find you. And I'd give it to you.”
The logic doesn't seem quite as sound, as she says it out loud. Regardless, it dredges up memories of awful days marked only by failure, frustration, and fear that they'd never find Kara.
She shakes her head, clearing the thoughts away, and continues in a lighter tone. “Because obviously, pot stickers would go bad, so. This seemed...less wasteful.”
Kara nods, still staring at the shrink-wrapped copy of Fearless (Taylor's Version). A wistful sort of look tugs at her features.
“I haven't listened to these songs in years,” she says.
And Alex can't pass up the opportunity to tease her. “Yes. It's been nice.”
Kara rolls her eyes, but she's still smiling. “It's a good album and you know it,” she says. She sets it aside and yawns. Alex notices that she's looking a little worn out, and she doesn't appear interested in the food anymore.
“You want to rest, while I order the food?”
“...Yeah,” Kara decides. Alex stands to collect the snacks and put them back on the lab table. Kara inclines her heard towards the CD. “Did J'onn put a stereo down here?” Alex gives her a look. “Wait. Of course he did.”
Alex takes the hint and grabs the CD, pulling off the wrapper before heading out onto the main floor. The mismatched selection of furniture is currently off to the side, having been cleared away for one of Nia's training sessions. Alex finds the stereo next to one of the lamps.
When Alex returns to the med bay, Kara's already nearly asleep, her breathing slow and steady.
Alex checks on one of the computers—everything is holding steady, and Kara's responding well to the sodium. She should be able to go home tonight.
It makes Alex sigh in relief once more.
Kara's safe.
Kara's healthy.
Kara's home.
Alex places the CD into the open tray. Checks the track list, turns it to one of the softer songs, and lets it play.
Kara smiles as the opening chords drift through the speakers.
“I like the guitar,” she says quietly.

NOTES: - Brought to you by the release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and the realization that the original album would’ve dropped at the perfect time for young, impressionable Kara to become a huge fan. - Title pulled from “Breathe” because WATCH ME repurpose select lyrics from love songs for platonic/familial relationships. - I want to say that Kara and Alex went to a MCR concert together...or maybe mentioned MCR? In the tie-in comic? I forget. This isn’t really crucial to the story, I just think it’s a fun aside. - Apparently it’s National Siblings Day so...yay for good timing? XD

My self-indulgent. unranked current thoughts/opinions regarding this year’s Eurovision songs. Most of them boil down to “it’s pretty good/ok/fine”.
Albania: Original version: A mess, with some captivating bits. Revamp: Less of a mess, with fewer captivating bits. Love the music video, makes me wonder if she writes fanfiction.
Armenia: Cute.
Australia: Very powerful voice and very emotive. Yet, I don’t connect with it.
Austria: I think it’s ok but I don’t get the hype, which is probably due to me being old, and me never having been hip for a single day of my life.
Azerbaijan: I can never remember how it goes. Sure he has a good voice, but it’s just incredibly forgettable, especially in a year filled with male ballads.
Belgium: Not my usual type of music, but it’s pretty cool.
Bulgaria: I don’t know why everyone ranks this so low, but also I would never vote for it myself. I always appreciate rock in the contest, but it’s a very “it’s fine, I guess” kind of rock song.
Croatia: A really sweet song for being about adultery
Cyprus: A nice little ethnic bop.
Czech Republic: I really like it when I listen to it, but I also keep forgetting it exists.
Denmark: I like it when I listen to it, but I also never seek it out. Love the drummer’s energy.
Estonia: Quite lovely. The acoustic version was touching.
Finland: I am not immune to the Rasmus nostalgia. And while this song is not In The Shadows, it’s pretty cool, terrible lyrics aside.
France: I mean, it’s not only rave in the forest, it’s also dancing with the devil, so what? And in a minority language! Obviously it’s my favorite this year.
Georgia: I was strangely addicted to this from the first listen. Indie vibes, prog vibes, arguably psychedelic vibes, and just full on vibes.
Germany: It’s fine.
Greece: I don’t quite get it, I’m afraid. It’s fine.
Iceland: Beautiful. As a fellow Nordic, I can appreciate a song about the days getting longer and starting to feel more hopeful as you actually get some sunlight. It also makes me wish I had sisters that I could start a band with.
Ireland: Incredibly catchy, I like it and her attitude.
Italy: One of those things where I recognize it’s a very well constructed song sung very well but it just doesn’t do anything for me
Israel: I’m all for confidence, the singer seems nice.... and I really can’t stand this song
Latvia: I’m always a sucker for some bass that Slaps and some funkiness. Also, with some exceptions, I like the lyrics. There are dozens of us! Dozens! Also now I do think of the bassist when I eat my vegetables which is an extra plus for the song
Lithuania: Monika is an incredible performer, and I wish I liked the song more than I do. I mean, I do like it, but it deserves worship.
Malta: It exists, and I don’t mind its existence.
Moldova: I have removed all other Eurovision songs from my playlist(s) in order to not get tired of them, but.. whenever I’m just sitting/lying down, doing nothing and recognize that there is something I Do need to Do I will put on this song, jump up, jump around, and go do the thing, and feel happy about it. It’s such an energizing and fun song.
Montenegro: I tend to take things literally and don’t mind things that are overly literal. These lyrics still manage to be too literal for my taste. Also I have a similar thing with it like I did with North Macedonia 2019 where I recognise it’s a powerful song beautifully sung and yet I feel this irrational dislike towards it, so it will probably end up winning the jury vote.
The Netherlands: It’s really beautiful and Dutch is a beautiful language.
North Macedonia: The song is decent, and I feel it’s underrated due to how little it’s being talked about even though it’s not a song I seek out to listen to.
Norway: It was an earworm in the beginning. Not in an annoying way, but not in a fun way either. It’s a little too ‘my sense of humor is Random’ for my taste, but not in such a way that I actively dislike it or anything.
Poland: See Italy.
Portugal: There is something so soothing about this, and moving, and it is gorgeous, and I want to marry it.
Romania: It’s pretty catchy.
Serbia: Incredibly captivating. Strangely catchy. I wish I was able to get it-get it, but I do appreciate it.
San Marino: I like the vibes, but it’s missing something for me.
Slovenia: Nice vibes and bass that slaps.
Spain: Yes queen, slay (neutrally)
Sweden: I have this thing with my country where I tend to inflate my feelings towards our songs, positive or negative. But I think this would be in my top songs even if it came from Australia or something. It’s genuine, it’s moving, and her voice is gorgeous.
Switzerland: I love his voice and the orchestrations, and he reminds me of George Ezra who I am a fan of, but the song just never goes anywhere.
Ukraine: I love me some Traditional + Modern and rap in a Slavic language.
United Kingdom: I’m always a sucker for “it is lonely in space”-vibes.

logan’s spotify playlist analysis
just a few (not really) thoughts i’ve garnered from the logan spotify playlist. fair warning, i have not heard of any of these songs before so i can be incorrect in interpreting some of the lyrics but hey, i’m trying my best, give ya girl a chance. i’ll also analyze the songs in order. summaries of my interpretations for each song is near at the end of the post! if you want to add anything, feel free to reply or reblog with your addition!
(one note, i won’t analyze the other sides’s playlist. i only did this because logan is my favorite, but if you want another analysis, i might do remus only if he gets one.)
big thanks to the logang discord who talked to me about the spotify playlist and my friend jana for proofreading this and letting me ramble to them! the analysis is below the cut. word count: 8300.
edit: apparently two songs aren’t available in my country, so i wasn’t able to see them right away to be added on this analysis. please check this post for the analysis of the songs what i do for u and the watchtower.
reblogging is highly appreciated!!! i worked rlly hard on this!!
tw: lots of logan angst, mentions of repression of emotions, mentions of lack of self esteem, and there’s a mention of suicide/depresion at the song “one more time with feeling” but i’ll mention it on the bullet so you know which part to skip!
the description of the playlist written by logan is interesting: “I was impelled to compile this selection of songs. I don’t entirely understand some of the lyrics, but I still found them compelling. Listen, or don’t.” the “listen, or don’t” part really suggests many things. one idea you can gain from that is that logan is probably ashamed of the songs he selected, even if he liked them, because it could be dubbed as “childish” but another thought i got is that the playlist confesses a lot of logan’s insecurities and personal issues, which might make him hesitant to present this to us because he’s not used to expressing himself and is probably scared of what others may think of him.
moreover, logan admitting he didn’t understand some of the lyrics sound a bit like a lie to me. while some songs could be difficult to understand without the lyrics, they all connect to something about logan, and to me, it’d make more sense that logan is hesitating to admit that some lyrics resonate with him because the lyrics connect to his personal identity/issues and he is definitely covering it up by saying he just vibes with the song’s aesthetic.
starting off, the elements by tom lehrer gives us the general idea about logan. he’s smart, he’s intelligent, he probably knows a lot more than what thomas knows which is weird but it works because it’s logan.
additionally, i just found out on genius.com that the song was meant to introduce the elements of the periodic table to an audience with a catchy tune so it can be remembered easily. this could imply that when thomas is learning something rather difficult, logan’s there to find different ways to teach thomas the lesson which thomas can easily adapt to.
white & nerdy by “weird al” yankovic is one of the few songs in logan’s playlist that’s in the form of a rap. before we dive into this song, i’d like to mention that logan picking very fast-paced songs are very interesting because i feel like raps and fast-paced songs resemble logan’s thought process. like remus, i feel like logan has an influx of thoughts and ideas that run across his head at any given time. fast songs could easily represent how much logan is thinking because raps can easily inform listeners about a lot of ideas and thoughts in one quick moment.
anyway, back to white & nerdy, first thing’s first: logan is an absolute nerd, but he also wants to be perceived as cool. this song practically screams “tryhard nerd is trying to be hip with the kids” and logan could probably relate to that on a spiritual level.
lyrics that probably stand out from this song would be the “I wanna bowl with the gangstas / But, oh well, it's obvious I'm white and nerdy” which is repeated throughout the song with the verbs changed in every chorus. “They see me strollin', they laughin' / And rollin' their eyes 'cause I'm so white and nerdy” could imply that the way logan is trying to be “cool” is failing because no matter what, everyone will still see him as a “nerd” above all else. because of this, it’s hard for him to relate and communicate with the other sides because the way he expresses himself could be something perceived as weird to the other sides. logan is just that different with the others, maybe you can suggest he’s the odd one out.
(this is probably also why in dwit, when he was called “cool”, he let out a disbelieving noise. he just wants to be seen as cool while also being himself and in dwit, he achieved that. the flashcards logan uses across the series is supposed to make him look “cool” but in dwit, he didn’t use any of that at all, being himself throughout the episode, and at the end, he was finally called “cool” for being himself.)
also, this may be a stretch, but if the other sides are supposed to be the “gangstas” he wants to roll with, that also can imply that logan doesn’t think lowly of the other sides. rather, he thinks of them as cool as well, and he wants to be just like them.
algorhythm by childish gambino is a very interesting song and a song that might be a bit difficult to understand (poor me with my bilingual problems) but an interesting take i found on genius.com helped me understand the context of the song. i will explain the song first before discussing how it connects to logan because this song is so smart. the song’s verses display apprehension as many of the lyrics question the validity of humanity and our society. the verses are intentionally distorted and inaudible because these statements oppose what could be deemed as acceptable in the society. the reason it is portrayed this way is because the person is afraid to be the odd one out in a society who thinks otherwise, despite how correct this one person is while the rest of the society isn’t. the chorus, while it could be perceived as something fun, talks about how majority of the society would choose to be ignorant about what is truly happening in our society and they would often follow whatever is popular, trendy, or fun; that is what the “algorhythm” really means. the chorus demands us to follow whatever is being said, to move our body exactly how society expects us to move. we follow the pattern that society deems is good, no matter how many problems still persist in the society. that is why the chorus is the most audible part of the song, why be hesitant when whatever you’re doing is something that the society loves doing as well? the song repeats “the algorhythm is perfect, mmh” twice, and it is expressed by the person who is having questioning thoughts about the algorhythm. this implies that no matter what, you will succumb to whatever society demands of you, and anything, especially the thoughts of one person against many, would not be able to change that.
now, how does this connect to logan? there are two main things i’d love to discuss: 1.) logan being the odd one of the group as his beliefs and thoughts are often brushed aside as they contradict what the other three core sides believe. and; 2.) while sometimes correct, the other three core sides in certain situations could offer the wrong solutions for problems without knowing they are negatively impacting thomas. logan’s the person questioning the society, the other core sides are the majority who can sometimes be ignorant of what could truly be the best solution for problems that arise, and thomas is the one who blindly follows what the majority presents as solutions, consequently making some of his problems worse.
now for the first point: logan usually is the most insightful whenever there is a problem that needs to be dealt with. it’s already known that he wants to be listened to so badly, and this song implies that he feels disregarded for thinking differently, even if it’ll benefit thomas immensely. an example would be in dwit wherein patton and virgil wouldn’t stop doubting and cutting him off whenever he tries to help thomas. the song is implying that because of how he is the odd one out in the group, he is starting to become more apprehensive about what he thinks because he feels like he’s wrong most of the time. it implies that he thinks it’d be easier to succumb to what the others think is right rather than to think his own opinions are important. just like in the song, logan is “(Moving how they say so)” because at some point, he gives in to the idea that he is incorrect and wrong, and is beginning to adapt to what the majority thinks is right.
for the second point, i don’t want to suggest i’m berating the other three core sides when in reality, those three are also very important to thomas, but then again, those three aren’t the most flexible when accepting suggestions that come from logan. while the three don’t always agree on certain solutions, they agree more with each other compared to agreeing to solutions suggested by logan. when thomas sees this, he might think that because more sides agree with one idea, maybe it’s better to go with the majority, and that pushes logan away more despite his contributions actually being useful to the group.
okay, this is added last minute because i got the thought really late but i think we should recognize this as the event that pushed logan to start having higher expectations for himself. the previous song shows us he wants to be perceived as cool, but the next song shows us he wants to be perceived as perfect. the problem logan had with himself definitely evolved for the worse and i think this song shows us what pushed logan to be so nitpicky about how un-perfect he is.
fitter happier by radiohead has a very direct message and its connection to logan is the same with the message they are trying to say on its own. this song showcases the high expectations logan has for himself to be the most perfect side for thomas, when in reality, the list of things described in the song ironically doesn’t describe how we can become the “most perfect” human; it describes how we can be the most inhuman thing in the world. if anything, the list of activities only makes us more machine than human, which is why the song is spoken through a robotic voice. the connection to logan is really easy to make here: logan thinks that pushing himself to strictly follow a certain itinerary would be beneficial for him in the hopes that he can be the most perfect version of himself for thomas, when in reality, it’s unrealistic as it only encourages the repression of his negative emotions. moreover, this song implies that logan needs to understand that he is allowed to be free and to make mistakes because no human can ever be perfect. all he’ll end up doing is abuse himself if he continued down this path of repression and strict planning for himself. to be the best version of yourself means it’s okay to make mistakes, and it’s important to learn from them, and if you follow this toxic planning for yourself, you’ll only end up being trapped.
medicine by STRFKR gave me a bilingual headache because this song is kind of difficult to understand, even more than algorhythm. someone in genius.com mentioned that “Never Remember / Your Birthday” is actually wrong, and rather, it should be “ Never Remember / You’re perfect / Or anything you like”. the song itself talks about philosophy, saying you can never be perfect because if you realize that you are perfect, you become egotistical and you lose interest in learning more if you realize you’re “perfect”. logan would never, ever want to lose interest in learning-- that’s his entire being, damnit! logan wouldn’t be a person who’d want to disregard the importance of learning. because of this, the song implies logan recognized the fact that he can never be perfect, albeit quite hesitantly, but he still aims to be the best he can be for thomas.
the song states that while we cannot be perfect, we can still be curious and hungry for knowledge, and that would be a good substitute for aiming to be perfect. curiosity is the medicine being talked about in the song, and if logan can’t be perfect, at least he can be curious because in that way, logan can learn, logan can educate himself, and logan would be knowledgeable enough for thomas.
the breach by clipping. implies that logan is the most rational side who knows how to keep everything steady. while i won’t get into details of what the song is about, the song is rapped by a computer white a problem is occuring in the space ship they are in. just like the computer, logan is the side who oftentimes knows the correct approach for any given problem, but tends to complicate how he expresses his statements. i believe this song expresses how analytical logan is and how he requires himself to be the most specific he can be at any given moment. same points that i mentioned earlier could be applied again here: despite how intricate logan can be, the other sides need to listen to him more because whatever he’s saying isn’t just useless jargon. he does make valid statements and the other sides need to listen to him more or else, just like at the end of the song, everything can become utter chaos.
just one more thing to add-- while i am unfamiliar with the album, i read the genius.com annotations for the lyrics and it mentioned that the computer, who is a character in the album, slowly becomes more human-like over the course of the story. in this song, which is the beginning of the album, we can easily interpret the computer as an over-analyzing unemotional machine, but over time, they get to become more human and think past their coding. they get to develop their own emotions and they get to become something more than a logical device. see a connection with logan? this implies that logan’s arc will involve himself being able to differentiate himself as an individual and himself as logic. while he is thomas’s logic, he needs to allow himself to be his own person and have his own personality. (i wonder how that’ll mix in with the “i’m not perfect enough” problem logan has)
letter c by zach sherwin depicts logan’s frustration from being made fun of. the line “Hey you know the only difference between ‘rap’ and ‘crap?’ It’s the letter C” basically implies that someone told logan that his passions and interests are synonymous to shit. throughout the series, while logan’s passions aren’t directly invalidated, he has been called nicknames often, and also is doubted from time to time whenever he expresses something to the others. but the thing is, teaching others, educating others-- that’s what logan is passionate about, and the fact that a lot of the others are disinterested by what he says would undoubtedly make logan frustrated, like what happens in the song.
however, logan is not good at comebacks unless it was planned in advanced, but this song gives us a good idea of logan’s thought process whenever he gets insulted. we know he keeps a notebook of everything said to him that is deemed as stupid (embarrassing phases ep i think?) and we can understand that insults really get to him and sticks to him deeply. he overthinks about them; he ponders about them.
other than that, having no comebacks also make logan feel ashamed of himself (which is suggested at the end of the song) because not only would he look stupid to the others, he would also look uncool or un-perfect, and he really doesn’t want to be perceived as either.
galaxy song from monty python is honestly just adorable. while it is sad to see that logan probably doesn’t seek comfort in other people, he does seek comfort in the stars. he is very passionate about astronomy, and while i doubt thomas took the astronomy class logan desperately wanted him to take, logan still hasn’t given up on astronomy like thomas did. while some might be scared of the idea that we are a mere speck in the universe that extends infinitely, logan is fascinated by it. logan loves knowledge, logan loves learning, and he is very fond of astronomy mostly because the knowledge he can earn is unlimited. additionally, he finds worth in himself because he was born in a universe filled with many stars and planets that he finds fascinating, and i think that’s adorable.
streaks by ANIMA! depict thomas’s and logan’s shared development throughout the years, especially when thomas was still a teenager. while there are many hardships growing up, these hardships were detrimental for thomas to understand himself further, and it is all thanks to logan for helping thomas make sense of everything. here, logan highly values education, thinking of it as a crucial part of thomas’s future. the song suggests that logan has planned for thomas’s future for a very long time, and he is convinced that whatever thomas is going through in school will help benefit logan’s plans for thomas. once thomas left school, particularly college, he has learnt everything he needs for a brighter future. all of this knowledge and development is thanks to logan, and the lines “Throw em in the water / They will sink or float / If you don't then you will never know” speak of the process of how logan was able to gain information and knowledge that thomas would apply for himself in the future. this knowledge isn’t limited to academic knowledge-- it’s about his social life, about his personal self, it’s everything thomas has learned. everything thomas knows now is thanks to logan.
okay but here comes the angst. the line “You're a smart kid, tough kid, but you're still a kid that grew” implies so much. firstly, we can recognize that logan probably has had a long time plan for thomas’s future and his career since he was a teenager, and he expects thomas to follow this plan right after college because he expects that at this point, thomas has fully come to understand himself and he needs to put all this progress and development into good use. what he didn’t expect is that thomas was still developing, still changing, and is still “a kid that grew” despite graduating. as we know, thomas mostly does youtube/theatre for a living, and it probably pained logan that all this planning he has turned out pointless. but even if thomas changed career plans right after college, the chorus repeating again implies that logan is still helping thomas develop. he still makes plans for thomas, he contributes ideas for thomas to place in his videos, and most importantly, he ensures a successful life for thomas, no matter what.
erase me by ben folds five is easily one of the angstiest songs on the playlist. in the song, the singer is trying to sing about a breakup and how their ex treats the singer as worthless. if we want to envision this in logan’s perspective, the song would be talking about the fragile relationship logan has with the other sides. the song describes their home together as “Paper not stone” which implies that their relationship was shaky, was unstable, and it was no surprise for logan that they eventually left him. yea, it wasn’t logan who left, but it was the others. this is implied by the line “And when you pulled your half away”.
even if it is implied that the others left him first, the song still suggests that logan cares deeply about them. but even if he cares about the others, he questions his worth nonstop, evident in like… the whole song. the song is called “erase me”, so it’s no surprise that logan blames himself in this situation and would even think of himself as the problem. it’s clear in the song that logan still deeply cares about the others, and their opinions on him still affect him gravely. the last line “And if you feel nothing, guess what I wanna be? Nothing.” implies that logan highly considers what the others say towards him, and sometimes would treat it as fact. if the others think nothing of him then maybe, he is nothing. throughout the series, logan has been repeatedly insulted and made fun of and while he becomes defensive, the songs in this playlist show that he does listen to the others and their criticisms of him, and he wants to change himself because of it.
while logan ponders deeply about the insults said to him, the song shows us that the others don’t think much of it. the song actually implies they’ve replaced logan as if he were some utility and acted nothing of it. they don’t realize the emotional pain they’ve inflicted unto logan and he knows this. logan recognizes that they don’t consider his worth. additionally, the line “Go and call the cops now, baby” sort of implies that thomas is also in on this and has heard of what the others said about logan and is siding with the others.
not only does logan feel incredibly sad by this, it’s obvious that logan is also very angry. he’s angry that the others think of him as useless, he’s angry that the others think he’s replaceable, and while he does listen to their jabs at times, he similarly just wants to prove them wrong. while the line “Erase me” can depict him succumbing to their jeers, this could also be about logan thinking of a way that’ll make the others realize his worth. the lines “We know that you don’t seem to think about what you need ‘til you reach to find that you’ve erased me.” suggests that the others can only understand his worth if logan erases himself completely. while the others pushed him away, they haven’t really erased him completely, but they just simply avoided him. if logan actually is gone, or maybe if he… ducks out, the others might realize what big of a mistake they’ve committed.
(honestly, it also must be frustrating for logan that the only way he can prove his worth is to disappear from the others. is his efforts just not good enough for them?)
also, at this point of the playlist, it is quite evident that logan is not emotionless. he has emotions, but clearly… they aren’t positive ones. many of these songs already tell us of logan’s problems: he isn’t listened to enough, he’s been left behind, he’s frustrated with himself, he wants to appear cool to the others, etc. and what’s worse is that he’s dealing with all these problems alone. one of the reasons he probably is repressing his emotions besides wanting to be “perfect” for thomas is that he does not want to reveal how much negative emotions have flooded him because of the other sides. he doesn’t want the others to be hurt just like how they hurt him.
now, art is dead by bo burnham definitely speaks of logan’s thoughts on art, and how flawed he believes roman and thomas’s artistry is. logan would define art as something you can be passionate about with money never being a factor of how great you are performing. in logan’s opinion, roman’s way of creating art is flawed. he views roman’s passion as something fake. instead of being the artist roman thinks he is, logan thinks of him as someone merely egotistical and selfish, someone who’s immature and craves attention. and while this might be harsh on logan’s part, i also think logan recognizes that this egotistical side roman is showing is most likely fake. in the lines “It’s all an illusion / I’m wearing makeup”, and “My drug’s attention / I am an addict / But I get paid to indulge in my habit”, logan understands that perhaps, roman is hiding under a facade. moreover, logan recognizes the danger behind roman endlessly craving attention from others. logan understands that there is a negative side to roman’s need for attention because roman needs to understand that he is valid even without other people praising him; roman relying on attention to measure his value is only going to ruin himself and his self-esteem. while i think the song has many messages behind it (please god help me because i don’t know how to explain this song well), i think this song discusses how despite loathing roman at some times, he is trying his best to understand him. while some parts downright insult roman, some parts show that logan understands roman is hurting.
another interpretation i’ve got is this song shows logan’s views on thomas becoming an entertainer. he thinks that the career he has now is undignifying and embarrassing. logan expresses that people who are entertainers or artists have stopped creating art because of it being their passion; rather, logan thinks these people do it because it’s a cheap way to earn money quickly. in this way, logan feels like the career he has now is unsatisfying because it all feels like a cheat to him. in the song, they state the unfairness of how rich entertainers are despite being lazy compared to people who work in drugstores, aiming to help people the best they can 24/7 with low pay. another lyrics you can use to describe logan’s frustration with how unsatisfied he is with this lifestyle would be the line “Cause I wanted my name in lights / When I could have fed a family of four / For forty fucking fortnights / Forty fucking fortnights.”. but even if logan feels undignified, he succumbs to the fact that he’s trapped being this kind of artist, but it’s obvious he isn’t too happy about it.
equation by hans zimmer & camille is unexpectedly depressing. this song is most likely sung from the perspective of a child growing up, overwhelmed by how much they have to learn before they reach adulthood. this entire song depicts a child asking questions which are supposed to make them look “grownup” enough, hoping they are on the right path for a successful future. i think this song depicts the stress logan experienced when thomas was approaching adulthood because everyone practically depended on him for thomas to have a successful life. this acknowledges the only time logan has felt overwhelmed by the influx of knowledge he had to learn just so he can ensure thomas that everything will turn out okay. in the song, the singer asks a lot of questions that could be labelled as something “grownups” would do, which shows us that logan’s need to be professional all stemmed from him wanting to help thomas become successful in the future. but even if logan was able to plan for thomas’s future, there are some parts of the song that imply that logan longs for times he was a child again. it’s just… logan just grew up so fast, everyone relied on him at such a young age, and he never really enjoyed his childhood to the fullest. he wonders where his childhood went, and he patiently waits for the happiness he experiences as a child to come back again. then again, that happiness would never return, would it?
additionally, the lines “Have I made you cross? Have I made you sad? Have I made you proud, Mom?” imply that when logan was growing up, he was, most of the time, alone. he never really confided in others for any problems he had, and he preferred handling everything independently. nobody seemed to pay attention to him anyway, even if he really cares for the other sides. i know it’s been said before but logan really needs to gain more recognition for everything he’s done for thomas, and people really need to listen to him more.
while logan would never admit this now, i do think logan, as a child, was immensely overwhelmed by how much he thinks. just like remus, logan has an influx of thoughts and ideas going through his head, and when he didn’t understand it in the past, he probably wanted all of it to quiet down. his role as logic is tiring, and while logan understood this at a young age, i believe that growing up, he began to normalize this as it happens too frequently over the years, evident by how logan usually acts throughout the series. to this day, logan probably has many experiences where he feels exhausted or stressed, but he intentionally doesn’t tell the others about it because again, he thinks that being this stressed is a normal occurrence.
(this is probably why he doesn’t wanna open up with others in the series. while i think he is repressing emotions intentionally, i feel like sometimes, he just doesn’t admit he is stressed because he shrugs it off as a normal occurrence.)
sunrise from in the heights is one of the more unique songs in the playlist. yes yes i know, as a logince fan i am also screaming internally and externally but i do have a different explanation as to why logan placed this song in his playlist aside from him wanting to be closer to roman. this song displays a moment of someone learning, something logan is quite fond of. while the song displays an educational experience between two characters, it’s also very intimate. logan probably believes that to be able to achieve knowledge, you must disregard your feelings because it’ll only get in the way of learning. but this song shows that our emotions could be a motivator for us to learn. that’s what makes logan like this song. this song fascinates logan because in the song, benny, the guy who can’t speak spanish, is learning spanish because he loves nina, the girl teaching him spanish. it shows him that in learning, having feelings and emotions is completely valid, and it doesn’t restrict learning entirely.
another thing i’d like to note is that songs like this that show a fascination in learning probably motivate logan to learn more. he is merely fascinated when he sees people being amused by education and learning, hence why he might have a fondness for the song.
one more time with feeling by regina spektor is… sad. it talks about a patient recovering from their illness and coping with the sadness that comes with it. (tw: suicide/depression, please skip to the next bullet if you are triggered by this.) the illness being spoken about in the song would be depression and this shows us the aftermath of someone committing suicide. while i do not think logan would be depressed or suicidal, i do think the song is suggesting that logan is suffering something, and he thinks it’d be appropriate for himself to… erase himself. this is the second song in the playlist that implies logan would want to disappear because the others neglect him. the line “And the pride inside their eyes would synchronize into a love you’ve never known so much more than you’ve been shown” implies that the other sides will finally acknowledge logan if and only if he erases himself, duck out.
we can fully establish at this point that logan represses a lot of his emotions and the other sides know it too. the others, clearly evident in lntao, tries to help logan to stop repressing his emotions, but they aren’t really successful in teaching him. i think it’s mostly because the sides are being sympathetic rather than empathetic, and the sides think that their way of accepting their emotions would be a helpful way for logan to understand his emotions too. but the thing they don’t realize is that maybe, logan isn’t like them, and he can’t use the same ways they use because frankly, it doesn’t work. now, where in the song does this get implied? The lines “You thought by now you’d be so much better than you are / You thought by now they’d see that you had come so far.” suggests that logan did consider the advice of the other sides at some point. he tried to accept his emotions like the others said, he really thought that he might be able to get over his issues. but the wording of the song is really interesting because it says “You thought--” as if the person thought it would work, but it didn’t. additionally, the chorus at the end could be thought of as the advice logan is receiving from the other sides. but the lyrics “Hold on / One more time with feeling / Try it again, breathing’s just a rhythm” implies that the advice he’s getting isn’t working for him. it didn’t work for him, but he’s trying again because he doesn’t doubt the other sides, and if that doesn’t work, he’s trying again. then, the lyrics say, “Say it in your mind, until you know that the words are right.” which is a much more cynical line because they’re implying that if their advice doesn’t work, then logan just needs to try harder until it’s ingrained in his brain. the last line, “This is why we fight” could have a double meaning. one might think this is about fighting your inner demons to eventually overcome them. but this could also mean that the advice logan is receiving from the others isn’t working, and the fact that they push their advice so much unto him would be the reason why the sides and logan fight. in this sense, the lyric could mean “This, the uneffective advice I receive from you, is the reason why you (the others) and I (Logan) fight.”. to cut this short, the other sides need to be more empathetic in trying to understand logan’s issues because so far, all they’ve been doing is make assumptions for logan’s problems and offer solutions that might only work for themselves. for them to be able to help logan, they must put themselves in his shoes and understand logan better, or else they might just end up damaging him.
now, i do have a less depressing interpretation of this song which completely contradicts the last bullet point but i wanted to mention it because it made sense to me. while i did imply that the chorus could have some malicious intent behind it, we can also look at it in a positive light. this song in the playlist is the only one where we see logan possibly getting comforted by the other sides, and that would make sense seeing that the songs after this one would be about logan accepting himself for who he is. so, if we think of this song as the sides finally reaching out for logan, we can assume that at some point in the series, logan will reveal every problem he has to the other sides. at this point, instead of neglecting him, the sides are showing him love that he’s never seen before because they finally understand logan. sadly, their love and comfort would only be given only if they realize how bad logan is hurting, but at least he’s finally receiving the love that he desperately wanted.
in my mind by amanda palmer speaks of a topic similar to the songs medicine and fitter, happier because it sings about perfection. at this point, we can safely assume that logan is obsessed with precision and perfection, and he has aimed to be perfect for thomas for a very long time. problem is, he doesn’t realize how much he’s beating himself up from trying to achieve his perfect self. however, this song is the first one in the playlist which shows logan accepting that he can’t be perfect, and the person he is now is good enough for him and for the others. yes, medicine implies logan understands he cannot be perfect, but the song didn’t really give us that sense of resolution like this song does. i also think this song perfectly resembles how logan’s arc is going to look like. the song is split into four verses and each verse shows us the different stages of how sometimes, we want to be the perfect version of ourselves, but in the end, we realize we’re good enough for ourselves and for others.
anyway, focusing on the song, the first verse discusses logan’s high expectations for himself. the line “In a future five years from now / I’m a hundred and twenty pounds / And I never get hung over / Because I will be the picture of discipline” definitely shows it. he’s restricting himself because, implied by the lines “Never minding what state I’m in / And I will be someone I admire”, he isn’t satisfied with the person he is at the present. To further add to this, the line “And it’s funny how I imagined / That I would be that person now” explains that at some point, logan thought he was smart enough, he once thought he was “perfect”, but he realized that he wasn’t. he thought that he was enough, but no, something made him realized that he still had many flaws (cough algorhythm cough). the line “Maybe I’ve forgotten how to see / That I’m not exactly the person that I thought I’d be” shows him realizing that he wants to be better, he wants to improve himself. logan definitely has his own insecurities about his worth which makes him want to push himself more.
verse two has the same implications as the first verse but i do believe it is showing the negative effects of wanting to be perfect more. this shows us logan getting used to controlling himself to strictly do things that he can only label as something that’ll help himself improve. this time, it’s stricter with the line “Because I will be the picture of discipline / Never fucking up anything” and it depicts how simple mistakes he commits would make him feel miserable. (cough this means the infinitesimal mistake probably pained him so much cough cough)
verse three shows us logan realizing that the perfect version he aims to be is actually… not so perfect. the lines “I’m so busy with everything / That I don’t look at anything” is logan getting a realization that he hates this. he hates aiming to be perfect, he hates how restricting himself, and this “perfect version” he aims to be is just bullshit. the lines “And it’s funny how I imagined / That I could be that person now / But that’s not what I wanted / If that’s what I wanted / Then I’d be giving up somehow / How strange to see / That I don’t wanna be the person that I want to be” suggest that logan realized that doing all this, aiming to be perfect, is hurting him. he didn’t want to be perfect. i also think that these lines show us that logan is finally prioritizing himself above all things because, evident in the songs before this, he always aimed to be perfect for others. he always saw himself as faulty and he always intended to fix himself. but this verse shows us that he realizes that he isn’t faulty, he isn’t a mistake, he isn’t someone who needs to improve. he realizes he’s in hurting and he gives in to it, realizing he just needs to give himself time to accept himself for who he is because again, he is enough.
the last verse has logan acknowledging that the “perfect version” he aims to accomplish is downright impossible. the lines “And maybe it’s funniest of all / To think I’ll die before I actually see / That I am exactly the person that I want to be.” shows logan finally acknowledging his self-worth. he finally admits he’s good enough, and laughs at his past self trying so hard to be perfect. he’s okay. he understands he’s good enough. (also i am very proud of him, you don’t understand how my heart is exploding rn)
not perfect by tim minchin has kind of the same message as the previous song. it’s quite heartwarming that at this point, logan’s starting to accept himself and he’s not afraid to say he isn’t perfect. in this song, the singer expresses the many things he holds dear in his life, and while he acknowledges that there are some flaws to everything, he still thinks of them fondly, telling us that no matter how un-perfect it is, it’s enough for him. there’s a repeated line of “It’s not perfect, but it’s mine” and it’s easy to say that logan is not only referring to himself, but he’s referring to the family he has as well. he’s been so hard on himself that whenever he sees a flaw in something, he immediately think it’s faulty. but here, he’s acknowledging that flaws are something normal, something okay to have, and instead of turning away from himself or the others, he begins to love himself and his family.
i think the most important verses would be the verses which sing about his body and his brain. it’s all gonna be repetitive, i know, but the lines “I spend so much time hating it [my body] but it never says a bad word about me” and “[This is my brain] where all my fucked up thoughts can hide / ‘Cause god forbid I hurt somebody” really emphasize how much logan struggled before he began to accept himself. while the first line suggests he struggled a lot with how he thinks of himself, the second speaks of how much thoughts he repressed because he wanted to be better for others. while i don’t think the thoughts are really “fucked up” like the lyric suggests, i think this mostly talks about his negative emotions and how he wanted to hide it from the others. but at the end, again, he eventually stops repressing his emotions and allows himself to let them out because it’s perfectly valid.
human by tank and the bangas has almost the same message as the previous two songs. what’s interesting is that logan uses knowledge and different facts to motivate himself to love himself. throughout the song, it tells us facts about our bodies which logan would definitely be fascinated by, and it’s soft to think that he values himself because he treasures the fact that we exist. we are made this way for a reason, everything in his body has been meticulously crafted to serve different purposes, and logan finds it amazing. not only does he use this to help motivate himself, but he uses this to love the other sides as well. in this song, it is implied that there has been a relationship that has gone wrong, and we can think of it as the friendship between logan and the others. while the relationship between logan and the others has been wonky, they will eventually make amends and be close again; logan just needs time to understand himself, to love himself, and when logan is finally okay, he and the other sides and start over.
what i love about this song is not only is logan accepting himself but he is complimenting himself. while the last two songs are about him saying he’s enough, this song actually shows us that logan is starting to admire himself. he says he’s incredible and valuable, tougher than any superhero, and if that ain’t character development, i don’t know what is
one last interesting bit is that these last three songs imply that logan honestly needs a break from everything. all this acceptance and loving yourself can only be achieved if logan takes a break from working. i think this implies logan will eventually isolate himself from the others in the series just for a few moments, just so he can finally help himself, and he can only reconnect with the others if and only if he takes care of himself first.
time adventure from adventure time acknowledges eternalism wherein time is all an illusion and that there is no past or future, just the present tense. everything is currently set in the present, and whatever happened, happens, or is happening will exist forever because everything is set in the same time period which is the present. i think this song suggests that logan has already reconciled with himself and the others again and currently, he is happy with it. he uses this eternalism to emphasize how he treasures this moment of happiness so much. in this way, he can say that this happiness that he is experiencing right now will exist forever because it exists now. there’s not much more to say here than logan is finally happy, the others are happy with him, and he wants this moment of joy to happen forever.
now that that’s over, i’m going to summarize my analysis of each song in the following bullet points so it can be easier to understand:
the elements by tom lehrer: logan values education and always aims make anything easily understandable for thomas.
white & nerdy by “weird al” yankovic: logan, while he is a nerd, also wants to appear as cool to fit in with the others.
algorhythm by childish gambino: logan feels like he’s being alienated by the group because he thinks differently from them, despite being correct.
fitter happier by radiohead: logan has high expectations for himself to be perfect but this also makes him feel trapped.
medicine by STRFKR: logan realizes being perfect means he might become lazy, and this first showcases logan questioning if aiming to be perfect is a valid thing to do.
the breach by clipping.: logan is portrayed as someone who keeps control of everything thomas’s mind. without him, everything will disrupt into chaos.
letter c by zach sherwin: logan overthinks a lot about the insults he receives and wishes he can produce better comebacks so others might think he’s cool.
galaxy song from monty python: logan is fascinated by astronomy, bringing him comfort.
streaks by ANIMA!: thomas’s life being put-together is all thanks to logan. logan really should deserve more credit for building the person thomas is today.
erase me by ben folds five: logan feeds like he’s being disregarded and the others don’t know they are hurting him. he thinks erasing himself might make the others realize his worth, even if he sometimes lacks self-love.
art is dead by bo burnham: logan feels undignified with thomas’s career as an entertainer and he thinks roman is immature. then again, this song implies he wants to further understand roman.
equation by hans zimmer and camille: logan was stressed a lot when thomas was approaching adulthood and he thinks his job as logic is incredibly tough, making him miss it when thomas was a child, free of any responsibilities.
sunrise from in the heights: logan is fascinated by the fact that emotions can be a motivator for learning, something he has never thought of before.
one more time with feeling by regina spektor: the others finally understand what logan’s worth is when logan disappears, but the advice they give to him aren’t exactly the best but hey, they’re trying to reconcile with each other.
in my mind by amanda palmer: logan accepts the fact he can’t be perfect and the person he is now is enough.
not perfect by tim minchin: logan begins to understand that the most un-perfect thinks could be the things he loves the most, and he begins to love himself more, thinking it’s enough.
human by tank and the bangas: logan finds comfort in facts as it makes him feel more empowered. these facts make him fascinated with himself, as well as find fascination in the other sides.
time adventure from adventure time: he finally reconciles with the others, reconciles with himself, and he wants the happiness he feels now to exist forever.
now, thomas mentioned in a tweet to listen to them in order. i do think the playlist is meant to foreshadow what’s to happen to logan’s arc. these are a few thoughts that i have that might occur in logan’s arc:
all of logan’s problems definitely stem from him wanting to be cool enough for the other sides. because he wants to be perceived as cool and the others don’t really think of him that way, he begins devaluing himself. this problem eventually evolves, and instead of wanting to be cool, logan wants to be absolutely flawless, and he is abusing himself because of it.
roman is definitely someone with a crucial role in logan’s arc. this playlist references roman more than the other sides and while i don’t know what his role is, i do think he is one of the main people who will help logan during his arc.
with songs like erase me and one more time with feeling, i have a very heavy feeling that logan will duck out or disappear. he did get the epiphany that the others will only see his worth if he is gone, and this might happen during his arc.
ONE LAST THING: thomas tweeted this:
it is suspicious to me that he says that this is only PART of the reason why. there is a bigger reason to why logan didn’t put crofters the musical on his playlist, and i can only think of two reasons why. one would be he didn’t want to hurt roman since it was evident that logan respects the other sides, especially roman. another is that he isn’t embarrassed by his singing per se, but he is embarrassed with himself. he was too immature, too incompetent, and because logan longs to be perfect, he might consider crofters the musical as a mistake he committed.
(also, if logan is ashamed of not putting crofters the musical and is hesitant to show us this playlist, does he mean he still is suffering now?)
anywho, conclusion: logan is sad, give him some love, and i hope he knows we love him for who he is. remember that my interpretation is my interpretation, not in any form fact, so if i’m wrong, i’m wrong, and that’s okay! again, feel free to add anything to this and have your own interpretations because i’d love to hear them!
