and even outside of the series, the fandom itself is a shell of what it once was. the more babyish sasi has become the more babyish a good portion of the fans have been, and it feels so haunting to know what the sasi fandom Was and see it so gone, like even if there are respectable people in the fandom i genuinely feel like it's a wasteland. it's not the same. and i think that's what makes the decrease in quality in sasi hurt the most, because this whole thing used to be more profound than it was, and we lost that

most sanders sides since wtit, aka the first episode where joan had finally tapped out of the show, has been stupid filler which i can only describe as first season silly shenanigans. from this point onwards i rlly don't have as much hope as i did for a deeper sasi that delved into philosophical topics like it did during the clbg-svs.r era. genuinely what a fucking waste of such a profound exploration of how catholic black-and-white, moralistic thinking erodes your self-esteem and perception of others. that desperation c!thomas kept clinging onto so he can feel like he is a good person. what a waste of such a beautiful series

but anyway the base concept of sanders sides is literally what being doomed by the narrative is. all the characters bar thomas are personifications of internal functions— you are stripped of all agency, all sense of self-made personhood because you are assigned a role as a side because thomas thought it was fun to create the narrative of sanders sides.

all episodes— at least the good ones, i'm not paying attention to anything past wtit— are framed as visualizations of what goes on in the mind during specific dilemmas. the best example i can give is logan, where thomas' dismissiveness against him goes hand in hand with the fact that he is 1.) going through a mental health crisis, 2.) is an emotion-centric person with artistic passions, and 3.) is in love. combine all these factors together and of course logic is put aside.

but again, the fucked up part is that it is natural for humans to prioritize certain functions we have over others because that's how humans work. that's why all sides are doomed by narrative. sanders sides was a funny little thing for thomas (and esp the character!) but it's not funny for the sides if they just end up being neglected. if remus and janus are perceived very lowly they just have to accept it Happens.

so yeah. the more sasi strays away from this base concept — especially since the fruit of it as a story comes from these conflicting dilemmas — the more it loses its appeal.
