Like. I KNOW it isn’t silly to be nervous about wearing a binder in public for the first time in like 6 years. Especially when the last time was in college. And I had a bajillion queer friends. And this time is to a not specifically gay bar where I vaguely know a couple people. And I’ve historically presented as really femme in this setting. But it still FEELS silly to be nervous about like…. Conspicuous GNC presentation when I came out as genderqueer like 12 years ago.
While trying to explain this to my partner every explanation of what felt silly was just the dumbest thing I’ve ever said. I was like “it’s that I feel so good when I look like this I worry other people will look at me and be like………… ‘they look happy, how embarrassing?’ But like… that’s so dumb.”
I feel like I’m playing dress up and everyone around me is going to simultaneously call me on it.
Which is ridiculous. No one’s even gonna comment on it.
So I’m simultaneously like there’s no actual need to feel anxious but also it’s STILL a super normal and reasonable thing to feel anxious about and guilting myself for feeling anxious or saying I’m too old to feel that anxiety is just…. Not making the situation any better.

Parental Control Episode Two
I’m not gonna lie guys, I don’t know what happened here 😂
@rebelrayne
Bennicia ‘Benni’ Beresford-King had no idea it was happening.
Her mother, Maria, and her father, Lawrence, couldn’t agree on many things. It was why they divorced. But they agreed on one thing that they’ve come together again to fix.
They did not like Benni’s boyfriend. And if they didn’t like him, they were going to hate her brother Tom’s new girlfriend Lacey.
Maria scoffed at the camera, “Tim is convinced he’s gods gift.”
Lawrence nodded, “Always going on and on in his little raps. And he doesn’t take our daughter seriously. She works her arse off to support the two of them, meanwhile he takes one or two of his excuses for DJ gigs a month because he’s focusing on his ’rap career’. We all know it’s just code for stepping out on her while she’s working.”
“We’re here to find someone that will treat her the way she’s supposed to be. We raised her to be proper, to be the top of her field and to keep discrepancies and odd behavior hidden away, where they are meant to be. But Tim- he’s made her into some improper party girl! We want someone that will help her turn back to the path and the plan we had.” Her mother said firmly, her father nodding in agreement for the second time.
Benni was a professional, working as an editor with a publishing company to utilize her degree. She wore skirted suits when she needed to work in the office, and her parents had trained her to wear them when she worked from home as well, claiming that image was everything. But since she met Tim two years ago, within weeks of them dating her attire everywhere outside of the office had changed. The cutesy dresses and blouses and slacks had swapped out for jeans and tshirts with band names or graphics, her heels were changed for sneakers. Even her attitude and expressions had changed, becoming more open now. She wasn’t a ‘proper lady’ anymore.
So her parents looked for another suitor.
Noah and Ibrahim were polite enough, but they needed someone who would speak up so their daughter would quiet down.
Bruno goofed around too much.
Mason posed in his underwear for money- they didn’t need him giving her ideas.
Oliver was sweet but he had the relaxed demeanor that being a surfer suggests.
Finally, they found two they agreed on. They could tell the two boys took pride in their appearance. They were educated, came from good families. The boys knew what they wanted in life, and they were well behaved when they met them. Maria was sure one of them would be the perfect match.
Benni sat down with the cameraman, picking at the threads of her childhood bedspread, “My parents- they don’t understand Tim. They think he changed. Growing up, they expected me to find someone like my father had expected my mum to be. They wanted me to be a housewife- seen but not heard.” She sniffled, her black hair falling in front of her front as she looked down to wipe her eyes, “I love my parents. I do. They raised me, they put me through university. But- if I don’t behave the way they want, they get rid of whoever they think is causing me to act differently. My cousin, Seb, introduced me to the wrong music. So they blocked him from contact. My childhood best friend, Jen, encouraged me to find true love like she did with Levi instead of settling for someone from our parents’s world. I haven’t been able to openly see her in years. But Tim…he never expects me to be anything. To do anything. He takes me as I am, and he makes me feel free.”
Sitting in the living room, Benni sat stiffly at Tim’s side, putting him between her and her parents. He didn’t question it, he only rubbed her arm comfortingly. He was the only reason she was still here. As soon as she saw the cameras- as soon as she realized what they did- she was going to leave, whether or not she’d have to cut ties with them. But Tim convinced her to stay. Convinced her to follow through with it, because he didn’t want to be the reason she was disowned or cut them off.
“We can finally have someone that takes Bennicia seriously.” Lawrence grumbled in his seat, not shying away from glaring at the rapper. “She should be engaged within six months of the relationship. That is the plan.”
Benni’s head shot over, “You don’t even know what you’re talking about! The only reason-“
“Love,” Tim called quietly, “It’s okay.”
“No, it’s not! The only reason-“
“You never used to talk back.” Her mother cut in, before turning and scowling at her boyfriend, “You did this to her.”
Tim nodded, “You’re right. I did. Because I encouraged her to step outta the box you put her in. Benni has so much more to offer than being some bloke’s trophy wife.”
Her father scoffed, “At least she’ll find someone that wants her as a wife.”
Benni’s fists clenched tight, “Tim did propose. At our six month anniversary, just like you’ve always wanted. I said no because I know he would put everything on hold to make the perfect you want happen, and I know he has dreams to achieve.”
For the first time, her parents were struck silent. Only shaken from their stupor by the knock on the door. Her mother jumped up, “That must be my choice.” Benni scoffed, silently seething in her seat as her mother opened the door to reveal a tall man with black hair, “Dylan! Please come in, this is Bennicia.”
“Benni. I go by Benni.”
To their surprise, Dylan smirked, “I see why you went looking for a partner for her. I don’t know if you realize, but Benny is a boy’s name.” Dylan nodded at Tim, “You need to learn to watch the mouth on your lady.”
Tim was offended on behalf of Benni. His favorite thing about her was that she spoke her mind to him, it had taken him weeks to encourage her to do it. “I think she’s fine the way she is, mate.”
Dylan shrugged, “You ready for this date?”
Benni glared, even as Tim nudged her to her feet and pressed a kiss to her cheek, “Fine. Let’s get this over worth.”
Dylan smirked, “Usually my first dates just end up in my room, but we might save that video for our second date.”
Her mother’s mouth dropped open, clearly not expecting such a statement. Even as much as Tim touched their daughter, he was never so blatantly inappropriate in front of them. Benni smacked his hand away when he moved to grab hold of your arm, “Can I end the date here if you want to be a disgusting pig?”
Dylan just rolled his eyes, leading her out the door as she shot one last look to Tim.
Her parents watched with rapt attention as Dylan tried to place his hand on her thigh on the ride over to the location, using any excuse to get into her space and muttering about her playing hard to get. The entire walk around the date location, some flower garden that she would’ve been able to appreciate if she had enjoyed the company, he was questioning why she chose the line of work she did, with the long hours and minimal gratification, and making not so subtle digs about how her boyfriend must be cheating if she works that much. Tim could barely keep his blood from boiling over by the time he watched Dylan try to force a kiss out of her at the end.
Benni all but slammed the door shut when she walked back in to her parents home, surprised but pleased when her mother shrank away from the glare she shot her way. Tim didn’t waste a second in hopping up, talking quietly and making sure she was alright. Her parents had never seen this side of him, this caring and quiet side. They knew him to be loud with his rapping and unapologetic in his personality. Benni barely refrained from collapsing into his familiar warmth after her body finally released its tension. She’d just sat down when the knock came on the door. Her father hopped up, smug expression on his face, “Jakub! Please, please, come in.”
The man had a nearly completely shaved head, wearing clothes that were far too tight for someone his size. He raised a brow at Tim, “Little small, ain’t you, mate?”
Her father had the audacity to laugh, “Isn’t he? How is he meant to protect her at that size?”
Benni’s eyes rolled without a thought. Yeah, Tim was shorter than most guys, but he never let that step him from defending her. Instead she snapped, “Let’s just go.”
Jakub sent Tim a smug look before following her out the door, taking her dismissal as eagerness to get the date moving.
Jakub questioned her on the ride, asking about her daily routine and making faces when she admitted she would visit the gym only once a week. “I basically live at the gym.” He eyed her through her clothes, making noises she could only describe as primal, “You have a nice little body and all, but if you don’t care of it and showcase it, it doesn’t do you much good.”
She narrowed her eyes at him, “‘Showcase it’? I happen to like the way I dress. I’ve always wanted to dress this way, since I was a kid. Tim likes it- he even spent his own money to buy shirts for my favorite bands.”
“Is that supposed to be impressive? That he knows enough to spend a bit of money on you?” Jakub scoffed.
“He won’t let me spend a dime on him. The most he’ll let me do is go Dutch, and that’s only when he’s had slow gigs.”
Her parents glanced over at Tim, taking in this new information. They had always thought she funded their life together. But if he really paid for everything she said- he already showed that he cared for her. She already spilled that he wanted to marry her.
Her parents realized that he was misjudged. They had based their dislike on his rapping, on his presentation of himself. But he didn’t change Benni like they thought. Looking back- she had always been just at the edge of the change. Seb had given her musical freedom, Jen had reminded her there were choices she could make for her own happiness. They had always been close to losing the picture perfect image they had of her, but did they really love her any less?
When the three boys were lined up in the living room, her parents found themselves praying for the same result, and they honestly weren’t sure if they’d get it with all the pressure they’d put on her about this.
Benni stood confidently, which isn’t something they were used to. Growing up, she had always been a shell of who she could be because of the way they treated her. But she knew exactly what she wanted right now. “Okay. Round one elimination, yeah? Sorry, not sorry, Dylan, but you fucking suck.”
The man’s smug smirk dropped, coming back a second later as he gestured to himself, “You really don’t want any of this?”
Her face scrunched up in disgust, “Not even if I was touching you with a ten foot pole.” He scoffed, stomping his way out the door. Her mother let out a breath, of relief or annoyance, she wasn’t sure and she didn’t care. “Now, for who I actually pick? No contest, and there never has been. It’s always gonna be Tim.”
Jakub shrugged, heading out the door, “I can be home in time for my girlfriend to make dinner.”
Benni paid him no mind as she ran over to Tim, beaming smiles on both their faces.
“Oh thank goodness!” Her mother exclaimed, making the two of them turn to face her wearing matching puzzled , “We clearly don’t know Tim enough. We saw new things today.”
Benni smiled at that, at her parents, content to just be in Tim’s arms.

Audio
I highly recommend wearing headphones or earbuds while listening for the full effect! The song used in the audio is Parasite Eve by Bring Me the Horizon; the rock I listen to usually isn't this heavy but this song seemed fitting for the plot.
The audio and story were a bit rushed, and I was also really tired when I wrote this so sorry for any mistakes!
Let me know if you want me to continue making these! They take a long time, so if you enjoy them I’d really appreciate if you interacted with this post :D
The low purr of Jason’s car slowly died as it came to a halt in what was one of Gotham’s considerably least shitty parking lots.
And when he said “least shitty,” he meant it. Nothing in Gotham was good, let alone extraordinary enough to deserve higher praise.
Jason got out of the sleek black vehicle and closed the door, taking care to lock it before he stuffed the keys into the inner pocket of his faux leather jacket.
It was of high quality and material; he wouldn’t have bought it if not for the behest of Tim, but now he admitted the purchase was a good one. A few years ago his younger brother gained rapid interest in someone by the name of MDC; within a day, he easily found out the young designer’s identity and somehow pestered her into taking him on as a client. If Bruce was any indication, he probably left her no choice.
Speaking of the designer, she was partly responsible for his current situation.
A year ago MDC revealed her identity to the public and started to appear by Jagged’s side on tour, both as a designer and a performer. How she managed to do this while running a business and taking commissions, Jason had no idea—but he respected her ability to juggle all that work, especially since she was only a few years younger than him.
(It was worth mentioning that he didn’t learn this all this on his own—between Tim and Dick’s constant discussion of her, the information was practically drilled into his head. They were the fanboys, not him.)
A while after her reveal, Jagged announced he was going on a worldwide tour for the first time in years. It was only natural that one of those stops be his hometown, so the rockstar sent Bruce enough VIP tickets for the whole family and then some—which is why Jason was currently standing in the middle of a kind-of-shitty parking lot.
He hadn’t planned on going to the concert, rather opting to stay at home, go on patrol, and relax with a good book. But his plans fell through with the unusually low crime rate. He circled around various areas multiple times, but the only disturbances he stumbled across were petty thefts. It was as if all the criminals had collectively agreed to stop their plans for the night.
Yeah right, as if they’re all going to attend Jagged Stone’s concert or something.
Jason snorted at the thought.
He shook his head, pulling himself out of his thoughts to continue walking. He was already an hour late, not that it mattered.
A loud whoop caused him to tense, but Jason relaxed slightly at the sight of a small group.
There were three girls and one boy; none seemed particularly threatening, judging by appearance and gait, but it was Gotham. One could never be too careful.
One of the girls, short-haired and clearly tipsy, slung her arm around a blonde’s shoulders and pulled her in for a sloppy kiss. Their friends chatted loudly beside them, disturbing the relative quiet of the night.
Damn, I’m lonely.
Jason sent a harsh shut up to whatever voice in his head that decided to say that and approached the usher at the booths near the venue entrance.
He showed his pass and was pointed towards his destination, but the directions were unneeded. The booming music and cheers were more than enough to let him know where he was supposed to go.
After pushing past countless bodies and showing his pass to a security guard, Jason finally reached the VIP floor. He tuned out the music, keeping his eyes peeled for any sign of his family, and spotted them within a matter of seconds. It wasn’t hard considering how large their group was.
Stephanie was the first to see him. She waved him over while shouting something, presumably his name, and he followed.
Jason winced internally as he sidled up next to them; whoever was stuck behind his 6’4” frame was likely very annoyed.
He took a few seconds to settle in before turning his eyes to what everyone else was looking at.
In the middle of the elevated stage was Jagged Stone, shredding on his guitar and bobbing his head up and down to the beat.
He was costumed in an intricate, eye-catching outfit—quite literally.
The rhinestones on his black jacket caught and reflected the purple lights that shone above, and he shimmered with every movement.
Accessories were piled top to bottom, with his signature black lace gloves only being one of them.
Jason didn’t know much about design, but the outfit came across as intentionally showy rather than garish, which seemed like an impressive feat considering the sheer amount of components included.
Speaking of design, the girl a few feet away certainly didn’t escape his attention.
She was adorned in a short red dress with thin straps, a cowl neck, and a satin material. A leather jacket, combat boots, and the same lace fingerless gloves the older performer was sporting completed the look.
Damn, was the first thought that came to Jason’s mind.
Although he knew better than to underestimate women, he found himself shocked by the powerful vocals that spilled from her mouth. For someone so short, she certainly had a large pair of lungs.
Her voice was a far cry from Jagged’s growls and classic rock screams, but fit in nonetheless.
If anything, it was a light contrast to the heavy-hitting beat and the bass which reverberated through the venue, like how chefs used lemon to cut through the heaviness of a dish.
The way she moved with such poise was captivating, and the smile she wore as she lost herself in the music reeled Jason in.
He could only stare as she belted each note with ease, and the fleeting thought of what she’d look like in his leather jacket passed through his mind.
This train of thought was abruptly cut off as Steph sent a sharp nudge into his side.
Jason looked over, and she started mouthing the lyrics to the song rather aggressively while making exaggerated motions. He assumed this was her way of telling him to start dancing with the crowd.
She looked at him expectantly, to which Jason rolled his eyes, but when she looked away he subtly started moving his feet to the music.
Maybe going to a concert with his family wasn’t so bad—and when he thought of a certain designer, he couldn’t lie and say he wasn’t grateful for those backstage VIP passes. Now all he had to do was make sure he asked her out before Tim could.

SuperChat September 1- Meeting/Cute
Masterlist
"You're lucky I love you Mari." Adrien said, leaning down to whisper in his adoptive sister's ear. Marinette snorted softly hiding her mischievous smile behind the champagne flute in her hand. "I hate these parties so much, but a promise is a promise. Everyone shall see your designs, modeled on my beautiful body." He let out a sniffle dabbing at his eyes dramatically. "Oh it's so hard being this beautiful, always taken advantage of even by my sister dearest." Marinette hit his chest gently with her hand as she struggled not to laugh.
Marinette had received an invitation to that Wayne's Charity Gala and knew this would be the perfect time to show off. Convincing Adrien to attend had taken a lot of sweets and bribery of buying him the latest gaming console. However he had agreed to come, so they were together at the Gala wearing Marinette's latest suit and dress combo. One she made sure was her absolute best. Adrien wore a navy blue suit with deep red tie and gold cufflinks. Marinette wore a deep red dress with a V-neckline and coordinating illusion mesh back. She had sewn chiffon on the shoulders and back in the same red that flowed to the ground forming a train. Together they made for a stunning couple and were gathering compliments all night, which amused the both of them greatly. Apparently it was unknown to Gotham high society that Adrien was no longer an Agreste but a Dupain-Cheng.
Adrien grinned at Marinette as she rolled her eyes he held up his champagne flute in a toast gesture to Marinette. "To making your dreams come true. I'm proud of you Princess, only twenty-three and one of the top names in fashion already." They tinked their glasses together and Adrien waited until Marinette took a sip before he spoke again. "Now if only you didn't use me to get there." Marinette turned sharply glaring at him and raised her arm to smack his shoulder. Adrien laughed loudly, moving back quickly only for her bad luck to kick up. He tripped over his own feet, he closed his eyes tensing up ready for the fall. Only for a strong arm to wrap around his waist catching him, the other one catching his champagne flute. Adrien opened his eyes wide in surprise, the first thing he noticed was stunning blue eyes, hidden behind askew glasses. He stared into the man's eyes unable to look away, until the man asked him a question. "I-uh. I'm sorry, I'm afraid I got lost in your eyes. '' Jon blinked down at the blonde in his arms, before snorting and helping Adrien stand up fully. He however did not remove his arm from Adrien's wasit.
"I really wasn't expecting that after saving you from ffalling.Do you use that on everyone that catches you?" Jon asked teasingly, his eyes sparkling. Adrien smirked, taking his champagne flute back from Jon.
"Only on knights with the prettiest eyes I've ever seen, so I've only used it twice." Jon quirked an eyebrow, leaning back slightly. Adrien was quick to note that Jon was a full head taller than him.
"Oh? So who do I have to be jealous of then?" Jon asked, and this caused Adrien to snort softly before taking a sip of his champagne finishing the flute.
"Well that would be my sister-in-everything-that-counts but blood. I still fimd it funny that she had the adoption papers ready before her parents even knew. She thw one that, ya know the very one that pushed me tonight." With that comment Marinette surged forward smacking Adrien in the chest repeatedly, yet descretly enough to not gain attention.
"Adrien Dupain-Cheng!" She whisper yelled, causing Adrien to tense and look at Jon.
"Uh-oh full adopted name." He whispered causing Jon to snort.
"I did not push you and you know that!" Adrien snorted grabbing her wrist gently and squeezing it slightly running his thumb again the back of her hand. "And don't think compliments will get you anywhere Mister! I did not forget what you said before you decided to be a clumsy kitten!" At that comment Adrien blushed slightly looking away as Jon smirked playfully at the nickname. Marinette turned to him smiling brilliant meeting his eyes, the smile and her eyes took his breath away. He could definitely understand that he stood under Marinette when it came to beautiful eyes. Her eyes were a beautiful mix of blue and grey, and if he looked close enough he was positive he'd find stars trapped in them. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng, I'm this idiots sister-in-everything-that-counts but blood." He looked at Adrien then back at Marinette before going back to Adrien.
"I respectful take my spot as second in the pretty eyes category. Your sister-in-everything-that-counts but blood clearly has me beat. She definitely has me beat as most beautiful person as well." He said causing Marinette to blush slightly. "I would love to see who comes out in a contest between her and my practically older brother Dick." Adrien and Marinette looked at him quizzical, but Adrien was the one to voice it.
"Practically older brother?" Both him and Marinette struggled not to smirk as Jon rubbed the back of his head witb his free hand. Marinette noted the his arm was still around Adrien's waist, causing her to narrow her eyes and observe him more. Jon was quick to note the look her was gettimg amd cringed on the inside, it was the look that he had come to see the most. Considering his best friend's entire family was detectives, that look ment that Marinette would probably know all his secrets by the end of the night. Though he calmed himself assured that Marinette would not discover him in one night, thats something only the Batfamily could do.
"Well my best friend, Damian, I've known him for years and know his brother in turn. Dick is the oldest, he is labeld as the most beautiful, even out of his sisters. Jason and Tim are the ones that represent Gotham the most. Jason represents the streets where you fight to survive while Tim the weathy where you do everything you can to help. Cassandra is the Princess and follows in her father's charitable footsteps. Stephanie isn't adopted in like the others but she is known as the Prankster. Duke isn't adopted in either he is a ward but he is a part of the family, he is known as the most caring and compassionate always donating his time to charity. Damian is the youngest he was known in school to be an Ice Prince, but no one can deny he is his father's son with a sharper edge. He doesn't associate with people that aren't worth his time. Luckily I am worth his time, I wasn't at first!" Jon said with a cheerful laugh, Adrien blushed slightly adding beautiful laugh to Jon's attractiveness meter. Marinette and Adrien made eye contact having a silent conversation together, which reminded Jon of the Batfamily yet again. He glamced across the room at said family standing and laughing together, he could even see a real smile on Bruce's face as he looked at his kids. 'Maybe Bruce's has another kid he doesn't know about. It would fit black hair, blue eyes, and adoptive tendencies, oh Damian would not like to find out he may have a blood sibling.' Marinette gave Jon amd tight yet polite smile once their secret conversation was over.
"Well Jon, I'd love to talk more, but I spotted a dear old friend across the room. You wont mind keeping my brother entertained would you?" Adrien smiled brightly at her words amd turned to look up at him with kitten eyes.
'Why is he so pretty. Why are these too the essence of beauty, it like the were blessed by gods.' Tikki and Plagg shifted uncomfortably in Marinette's purse and shared a look that screamed, who is thinking of us. Jon spared a glance at Marinette's purse, before looking back at Adrien. He was a little confused on why he could hear breathing from her purse, but he pushed it to the back of his head.
"It would be stupid of my not to agree, although I must ask for a short interview efore you both leave for the night. Ah. I never fully introduced myself, Jonathan Kent, I work at the Daily Planet. I'd love to do a piece on M.D. clothing." Marinette and Adrien shared a look before nodding in agreement, and Marinette was off gracefully crossing the floor to Selina Kyle. Although he tensed up at her whisper that he had, at first, assumed was to herself. He was wrong when he realized she was talking to him. In seconds he was terrified of the beautiful women walking away from them. The women that had discovered his secret quicker than anyone before. Of course it would be months of him and Adrien dating until he finally admited how terrified of Marinette he was. Marinette only smirked at him sipping her coffee, as Tikki gave her chosen a proud look from her small chair on the table. However Jon would never give up his spot in their family. He loved Adrien, now he just had to gain the courage to propose to him.

Broken Hearts and New Beginnings
Chapter 1
So, this was originally written for Maribat March 2020 Day 21, prompt Broken. I know this fic isn’t everyone’s cup of tea so, read at your own risk?
Anyways, onto the fic (this chapter is titled “Parisian Teens in Gotham” on AO3).
Marinette was eleven when it happened. She remembers bolting awake and screaming at the top of her lungs as it felt like she was being blown to pieces. She remembers her parents running in and the looks on their faces when they saw her heart splitting in two. She remembers going to school the next day and she remembers the dirty looks she got at the sight of her heart.
Marinette, now seventeen and with four years of superhero experience under her belt, led her class from the bus to the lobby of Wayne Enterprises. “Remember,” she began in English, looking at her class over her shoulder, “be on your best behaviour and to ask your questions in English. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to practice our English.” She turned around to face forward, her eyes and expression neutral (just like they’d been since that day).
The class followed; Rose’s arm wrapped around Juleka’s with their purple and pink hearts (respectively) floating between the couple, Max’s left hand held in Alix’s and his right hand held in Kim’s with their red, navy blue and lime green hearts settled happily in Max’s hair, Mylène walks hand in hand with Ivan their charcoal and dusty rose hearts rode atop Mỳlene’s headband. Their eyes scanning the streets of Gotham.
“Keep together.” Marinette’s voice cut through the chatter of the city as she held open the door to the lobby, her heart (which was split in two and a sickly green in colour) hid in the longer teal coloured hair on top of her head, while she watched the class filter into the building. She looked down at her outfit, her grey Jagged Stone shirt tucked into a grey and pink plaid skirt with her grey tights disappearing into her black high-top Converse shoes, and ran her hands down her skirt nervously before she followed her class into the lobby.
The class was met in the lobby by two barrel-chested, black haired boys, the first of which turned to face them. The first boy’s although boy is the wrong word heart, the brilliant orange of a sunrise, fluttered to and fro around his head while he smiled. “My name is Richard and I’ll be your tour guide today.” He grabbed the other boy’s shoulder and spun him to face the class.
The second boy, who’s black hair seemed to fade to a dark red at the roots but had a section of white hair in the center of his forehead, turned to face them and his blue eyes seemed to flash green for a moment. His face, with white scars covering his cheeks, jaw and running down his neck, broke out in a smile. “I’m Jason. I’m only here to translate if you ask questions in French because Dickie here doesn’t know any.” He hooked his thumb over his shoulder at the other boy and let out a quiet chuckle. “Let’s not stand around like this, let’s go take a tour.”
---
The tour broke for lunch, releasing the French class to the cafeteria on the third floor. They all got their lunch before breaking off into smaller groups. Most of the class took up two tables surrounding a girl wearing black high waisted shorts with an orange crop top under a denim jacket, orange sunglasses sat atop her half-up half-down hair while her orange and white checkered sock-covered feet (which led down to her orange tennis shoes) were tucked under her seat at the table.
“Of course I know the Waynes.” Her unusually shrill voice filled the cafeteria. “I’m actually going over to their manor tonight for dinner.”
Marinette rolled her eyes before looking at her friends. Adrien (sitting beside her) who wore a black leather jacket over a black t-shirt with dark blue skinny jeans and a pair of dark orange high-top Converse; Nino (beside Adrien) who wore dark grey ripped skinny jeans with a black and white striped t-shirt and a pair of dark blue high-top Converse; Sabrina (beside Nino) who wore a black and dark purple flannel over a black crop-top and black ripped jeans with black and dark purple plaid high-top Converse; Chloé (beside Sabrina) who wore a long-sleeved yellow turtleneck under a black overall dress with black and white striped tights paired with a pair of yellow high-top Converse. She let out a quiet laugh before she leaned over to flick the girls’ foreheads. The two girls’ looked up, their expressions offended before laughs bubbled out of them.
“Do you hear Lie-la?” Marinette’s tone, much like her expression (most of the time) was neutral. “Acting as though she really knows the Waynes.”
Jason, sitting at the table behind the group of black clad teens with his brother, let a sad smile cross his face before he turned to look at the girl over his shoulder. He caught sight of her broken heart (and the sickly green colour it had acquired) before looking down at his own heart. His heart (which had been the prettiest, lightest, most cheerful pink colour he had ever seen once upon a time ago) was a stormy grey colour. He looked back up at the girl before he let out a silent gasp and caught his heart in midair, to the bemusement of his older brother.
Jason followed the class’ conversations, although his eyes kept going to the girl with the teal hair (that a quick phone call to Tim confirmed to be the class president, Marinette Dupain-Cheng) and frowned when he remembered the night that broke her heart. He rubbed his hand over his actual heart before frowning again.
“It was so terrible, what happened to the Waynes. When Carl ran away from the family.” The words spilled from Lila’s orange covered lips like water from a waterfall. “Signore Wayne was so devastated.”
Jason tightened his grip on the fork in his hand, causing Dick to let out an airy laugh. “Oh Carl.”
Jason pointed his knife at Dick’s throat. “Don’t call me that.”
Dick pushed Jason’s hand away and tisked. “Green eyes again Jaybird.” He laughed again. “Best be careful not to give into your pit madness around the Parisians.”

It’s Been a While (Batfam x Sister!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Years ago (Y/n) Al Ghul- Wayne had disappeared from the world without a trace. When she comes back her family has a lot of questions for her and her her two friends, Artemis Fowl II and Holly Short
Warnings: It’s long and I got carried away
Request: No
Pairing?: Family; Batfamily x Sister!Reader
———
Age Ten
(Y/n) scowled from the rooftop, making sure to be unseen by those below her as her brother chased the clawed man. Fighting him into the streets of Gotham wasn’t a smart idea, it was rash with little thought that would only cause trouble. She didn’t need to be part of that, no matter how angry she was she needed something to do instead of sit around the cave all day. Quickly she jumped off the roof and twisted herself and grabbing the streetlight so she didn’t hit the ground. Flipping herself to stand on the light before bounce off the tops of cars and trucks to make sure her brother wasn’t overly harmed. Landing on top of the fence she watched as metal clanged metal before jumping to sit on the streetlight above.
She would stop the fight when she thought necessary, after all, Damian wasn’t exactly a normal child, neither was she but that was different. While she was trained to be a killer she found the works of being a criminal mastermind much more enduring than the works of a mindless assassin. It was when he was bring his sword to lay the final blow did she get ready to leap into action. However, a man in black and blue beat her, kicking her twin through the fence before he could kill the injured man. (Y/n) recognized the vigilante from her grandfather’s and mother’s learnings, his name was Nightwing.
He caught the sword but (Y/n) took action flipping above him and grabbing the sword from his grasp. Sheathing it in her holder as she landed beside him.
“The psychos keep getting younger,” Nightwing muttered, keeping an eye on the girl next to him. She seemed harmless but she had also been watching the scene unfold and took the sword away from him. He knew if she had the intention of harming him she would have done it, he could tell she was a force to be reckoned with just by the glint in her eye that gleamed. It was as if she was sending the message of “I know something you don’t” with her eyes.
“Watch out,” she muttered toward the hero as her twin cane charging toward the pair, mainly the man that had knocked him away. Damian has no reason to go after his sister, she knew when to pick her fights but for once she wasn’t by his side on this one. She helped Nightwing fight him, even going to hand-to-hand combat with her brother who was typically superior in that field but she was much smarter than her brother.
It took some time but soon enough Damian was tied to the streetlight with a gag looking furious. (Y/n) chuckled at the sight before turning toward the scratched up hero with a frown. “Sorry about that. With the sword and all. It’s not easy fighting your own brother especially when their better than you.”
He gave a chuckle, “It’s fine, who are you kids?”
“I’m (Y/n) Al Ghul-Wayne. This is my twin brother Damian. We snuck out of the manor while dad was out on patrol, I just followed so no one would get killed.”
“Nearly failed,” Nightwing commented on.
“What ever you say Grayson. Believe me, my plans never fail.” Once again the glint was in her eye as she smirked, “Call dad, he won’t be happy but he may as well be called.”
The man nodded while the girl walked over to her hanging brother who was spitting curses into the gag while glaring at his sister. In less than twenty minutes all of them were back at the manor and being checked on by Alfred. Dick was getting stitches from Alfred due to Damian’s stricken with a sword while (Y/n) hacked into the government systems at the bat computer, looking bored.
“Maybe you should remember who the blood son is,” Damian hissed at the older man.
“Maybe you should remember who saved your ass back home before the attack,” (Y/n) snipped calmly, seemingly ineffected by her brother’s withering glare. “Now quit glaring at me, I have something to figure out.”
“Besides, it’s more like blood thirsty,” Dick supplied with an ease. Alerting both twins that this wasn’t the first time he had an arguement of insults with someone their age. Dick only seemed to react when Damian went looking through the costumes of the old Robins.
“You can never be too cautious,” Alfred told her as he appeared at her side, in front of the computer. “But never be paranoid, that will bring you a horrible life.”
She blinked at him before glancing up at the pair of males above.
“Thank you Mr. Pennyworth.”
She would keep that information handy for the rest of her life.
Age Eleven
Why Bruce sent her and Tim to Ireland was beyond her. There wasn’t a lot of major crime around that would cause them to go out of country. She didn’t mind time like Damian did, the pair actually got along very well but disagreed on many different topics. She didn’t train to go on the field like her brothers did but she was trained well enough to be able to keep up with what they did. She was smart and worked with technology everyday, so she wasn’t very happy about the mission. She traveled around the city of Dublin calmly, hoping to find something of use of the pointless mission.
They were here to find a supposed criminal mastermind that had gone missing, with no name and little leads, he just lived in Ireland and had quiet a bit of money. It was what brought Tim and (Y/n) to the view tower of The Guinness Factory, surrounded by important people from all over Ireland and some from different countries. She let Tim do the talking to all the others, she was very calm but she wasn’t fond of having a low intellect conversation with someone in the beer factory.
She walked around in her (Favorite color) dress as she rarely stopped to chat. As soon as she got to the bar she was surprised how empty it was for a party. “Not enjoying the party?”
She looked over to her right, only to see a boy that she could have easily mistaken for a young Wayne boy. He had raven black hair and deep blue eyes that took her by surprise, he was pale like a vampire and even wore a smile of one. He seemed to be her age and as deeply as bored as her.
“It’s not my kind of thing,” (Y/n) told the boy in the Armani suit. She had only seen on one man wearing a suit of the same designer, that man was Domovoi Butler who was a manservant and a bodyguard to the Fowl family. “I’m guessing it’s not yours either Artemis Fowl?”
“Why you picked up the clues rather quickly, didn’t you (Y/n) Wayne?”
She rolled her eyes, she had heard of the Fowl family and knew that the man they were looking for has been missing for a year. She could at least have a competent chat with someone her age about things that do not make sense. She had heard of his mother which barely anyone knew about and she had heard of him dropping from boarding school and she had no doubt on why.
“If you’re going to make alliances with those of this higher society to keep your plans under wraps then I would suggest you get talking to them.”
“Well, if your brother and you are looking for my father he was killed a year ago.”
“So it seems Mr. Fowl,” (Y/n) stared with a click of her tongue. “But things aren’t always what they seem. Your family was rich and now you a young eleven-year-old are trying to bring it back up. No one would suspect that you would be as smart as you are today but yet here you are in land of higher life that is much more dangerous.”
“Well Miss Wayne, perhaps we should chat about it somewhere else. After all if anyone heard it would be a shame if your own family secret got out to the press.”
“Black mail doesn’t work on me. I want to help you.”
“With?”
“Your father and mother. You can’t believe that something isn’t going on? The problem is, my family can’t know where I am.”
“Why should I let you help me?”
“How many people do either of us know that are as intelligent or competent as us? Besides, I know more about people, so if we need something socially I can talk.”
“You say you need to hide, who’s believe you are who you say?”
“Artemis, this is the underground network. Things can be well hidden, even my father hasn’t figured out all of the darkest secrets in Gotham. What makes you think he’ll figure this one out?”
“True but, how are you to die? Needs to be something believable.”
“Obviously,” she hissed with an eye roll. “Tim is coming, smile.”
He gave a vampire smile and she put up a false front as her older brother came over. “Hello,” he greeted them both. “You seemed to be missing out on the party sister.”
“I prefer talking to certain people more than others.” Tim frowned and took his leave after grabbing a drink. After at least thirty minutes of silence between the two pre-teens did something happen. Men walked in, guns in hand with a greedy look in their eyes. Butler grabbed Artemis and Artemis grabbed (Y/n), pulling her back with them, into the corner. Butler hide the pair behind him while the two kids shared a look. A gunshot rung out, followed by some more. Tim looked around wildly for his sister, only to see a few men walking over towards the group of three. Guns pointed pointed at them as one shot the window behind them.
“Oh, wonderful,” Tim muttered as he watched the boy and his sister share a look. The pair backed up toward the edge of the window, looking calm and content. Two rings went out and the pair fell from the height. (Y/n) had taken both shots, one right in her left shoulder and another in her right arm. Pain seared through her as the pair free fell. The boy pulled something and a parachute came out and he caught her.
“You’re just prepared for anything aren’t you?” She asked as she clung to him. So she didn’t fall to early.
“Butler always taught me to be prepared for anything.”
The pair ditched the chute in a dumpster and ran, she would guess to his car. It was on that day that (Y/n) Al Ghul-Wayne was said to be dead and the day Damian nearly killed Tim.
Age Twenty-One
(Y/n) had grown since the night of her death. Far more intelligent and far more prepared for the world. She gained friends and helped save the world without her family knowing she was alive. That is what made this so nerve wracking as she stood in front of her father’s home. She had been dead for a decade with not even a sliver of anyone thinking she was alive. Artemis had kept his agreement, he never told a soul about you being alive unless needed. It was her death day and she felt a twist of guilt run through her.
Tim had blamed himself for her death, he was there for it but he was too slow. He would believe anything if it meant she was possibly alive, he would do anything to get her back.
Damian, her twin brother, how she missed him. Was he still as cold and closed off as they were when they were kids? Had he changed?
Dick was the caring eldest brother that had lost yet another sibling. He’d blame himself because he had Bruce put her on that mission.
Jason would understand in a different way, he didn’t know (Y/n) but he had heard about her. The only person that could truly calm Damian with a look if she pleased.
Bruce would blame himself more than anything, he sent her on the mission so he thought it was his fault. She had become very close to everyone in the family which only made her death worse.
“Come on (Y/n),” Holly said. “You’ve saved the world how many times and know you’re afraid to knock on a simple door?”
“Holly, this is different! It’s not like Opal is in there and ready to take over the world again, this is my family who thinks I’ve been dead for the past decade!”
Artemis sighed and just knocked on the door, much to (Y/n)’s alarm. “I’m helping you, whether you like it or not.”
The door was opened by Alfred as always,who as soon as he saw the three dropped the tray in his hands. He knew those eyes anywhere, the glint of “I know something you don’t” was still there with a mix of pain from the past and nerves from the present. The residents of Wayne manor stood at the door, looking in shock as Alfred hugged the girl with (Eye color) eyes that had the same look as always. Some wanted this to be a nightmare but the short auburn haired female was smiling so wide as if she had never smiled before. The male was one Tim recognized from the party all those years ago, Artemis Fowl II.
Alfred held the girl at arms length, “Is it really you Mistress (Y/n)?”
“Yeah,” she nodded. “It’s me. I’m alive Alfred. I’m here. Thank Artemis, he was the one who knocked.”
“Yeah, Mudgirl here chickened out,” Holly stated from her spot.
(Y/n) rolled her eyes wiping away the tears and smiled at her family.
“Hi guys, it’s been a while.”

“What’s got you into such a bad mood?”
The Wayne family were, for once, all home relaxing in one of the sitting rooms. Bruce, Dick, and Tim were discussing some aspect of Wayne Enterprises, Jason was channel surfing, while Damian had sunk into the couch with an irritated frown etched on his face. They had all noticed the change in the youngest but had refrained from asking earlier, but everyone was curious as to what had happened. No one was surprised when Jason had asked the question. Turning his glare at Jason did nothing to the older boy, all it did was make him raise a brow, waiting for an answer.
“Today was an annoyance.”
“Ha, when isn’t a day an annoyance to you? Naw, something else happened that ticked you off more normal.” Jason stated, popping a handful of candy into his mouth.
Damian would never understand how someone who acted so tough and violent could eat anything that colourful and full of sugar. Jason had been like that for as long as he had known him, and according to Dick, even longer.
“So, what happened?” Jason prodded again, grabbing another handful of candy.
Growling , Damian’s mind returned to early that day.
He was running late. He was never late. But there had to be an accident at the main intersection that backed up traffic, causing him to have to take a rather lengthy detour. Racing through the halls, he made it through the door just as the bell rang. The teacher, Mr. Spinale wasn’t there yet, which Damian thanked whatever god was out there. But that didn’t mean the rest of the class didn’t notice.
“I never thought I would live to see the day that the Damian Wayne would be late!” Claude shouted, shooting up from his seat.
Claude was . . . interesting. He was a loud mouth boy, who, no matter how blatantly Damian had ignored or told him off, kept coming back to tease him. By all fronts, Claude was a very likable person and had multiple friends. But he seemed to enjoy courting danger if his hobby of riling up the Ice Prince was any indication.
“And here I thought you were incapable of arriving before the bell rings.” Damian shot back, taking his seat. A series of ‘ooohhhs’ followed as Claude just laughed it off.
Before the anyone could say anything else, Mr. Spinale came in followed by fifteen other people, fourteen of them students. They were all chatting in French, but they all seemed to be enraptured by a story one of the girls was telling. Subconsciously, Damian’s mind assessed them and labeled them all as non-threats.
“Class, as you all should know, our school is hosting an exchange program with multiple international schools. Each school sent a class to represent them for three month.” Mr. Spinale stated. Damian could vaguely remember it being announced. It had been a contest or something with the best schools of other countries or something like that. Damian had never payed attention to it. “These students represent Collège Françoise Dupont of Paris, France. I expect you All to make them feel welcome” He instructed the class, casting Damian a meaningful look before turning to the exchange class. For a second, Damian saw confusion flash through Mr. Spinale’s eyes. “I’m sorry, Ms. Bustier. I was informed there was fifteen students. There’s only fourteen here.”
It was slight, but Damian caught the shift in the new class. They all looked as if they had tasted something bitter. The rest of his classmates didn’t seem to notice it, not that they noticed anything, but their reaction to the mention of said missing classmate intrigued him. Usually, a class would be worried if one of their own were missing. Or at least that’s what he had been told.
“We do, but the last one, Marinette, was sick today, so we left her at the hotel. But she should be here tomorrow or the day after.” The red headed teacher, Bustier, said. She had on a cheerful smile that didn’t sit right with Damian. As if she hiding something, or at the very lest wasn’t telling the whole truth.
Apparently Mr. Spinale felt the same way if the near unnoticeable narrowing of his eyes were any indication, but he just nodded once before directing the new students to sit down. It was no surprise to Damian when they grouped together, nor when a small argument broke out over who would sit with story girl.
As classes wore on, Damian watch in mild amusement as the two classes tried to interact. Key word was tried. Majority of the new class knew only basic English, while his classmates were mediocre in French. He ignored all attempts of conversation from the exchange class, sending them away with a bored glare or by immersing himself in a book. But while he didn’t talk with them, he did take the time to study them. Most of them were nothing special, nothing he would concern himself with, with the exception of one student. The one who had been the center of attention when they came in. The one who appeared to be everyone’s favorite. He quickly learned she was Italian, and a compulsive liar, if you could call her stories such. He listened as she fed her classmates story after story with so many names being dropped that he was honestly shocked that they believed them. No one, and he means no one who was anyone, would ever drop as many names as this girl was. In all honesty, he was disgusted at the sight.
Another thing he noticed was that the girl, was that she seemed hellbent on cozying up and charming anyone she deemed important or could possibly be influential in the class. So when she set her sights on him, Damian knew what he could expect. With what she thought to be an attractive sway on her hips, she sauntered up to him. Latching onto his arm, she introduced herself as Lila and began to spew a horrible lie of knowing the Wayne family, his family, and had the audacity to say that she was an honorary member of the family, practically being adopted by the boys themselves. So Damian did what he did best.
“I don’t care who you are, or who you think you know. But if you don’t remove yourself from my arm and my vicinity, then you’ll have a lot more to worry about then what rip-off brand you’ll be wearing tomorrow. Besides,” Damian said, barely casting a glance in her direction. “I don’t affiliated myself with someone as . . . tacky as yourself.” A slight sneer made its way to his face as he forcefully removed his arm from her grasp.
He had spoke loud enough for everyone to hear. Majority of the students who knew him simple shrugged before returning to their previous occupations. Some gave the girl pitying looks, but it wasn’t a new occurrence. They had lost count of how many girls had tried to cozy up with the Ice Prince only to end up burnt.
 For five, long seconds, Lila did nothing. It was as his words had frozen her. In that time, Damian watched as a flurry of emotions flash though her olive green eyes, eyes that reminded him of a snake. Shock, embarrassment, anger, confusion, where a few he could decipher before they settled on anger.
Almost instantly, her whole face changed as tears sprang to life, hurrying down her face before she let out one of the fakest sobs Damian had ever heard. This seemed to spur her class out of their stupor and rushing to her side as the snake started spouting out more lies in French.
“Hey! Why did you say that? She was . . . trying to be nice!” A dark, bi-spectacle redhead demanded, her thick French accent made her broken English harder to understand.
“Then she should learn about personal space.” With that final piece of advice, Damian grabbed his bag and strode out of the room, an aggravated scowl etching its way on his face for the rest of the day.
The rest of the day proceeded in the same fashion. The next three months were going to be very, very long.
“She actually said that!”
Damian shot Jason a glare that promised painful retaliation as said brother laughed. His other brothers where no help as they tried, miserably, to hid their amusement. Bruce was just shaking his head at the boys antics. Alfred had the smallest smile playing on his face, one that if you looked to long made you question if it was there at all.
“I hate you all.” Damian muttered, glaring at the lot of them
“I’m sorry, it’s just. Wow. I almost wish I could see that for myself, and I am all out of candy. I’ll be right back.” Jason said, jumping off the couch and disappearing around the corner.
“How does he eat so much of that stuff?”
“We have no idea. Oh, turn on the news. They’re suppose to cover that crash at the intersection.” Tim said.
“ . . .  As many of you know, the intersection on Main and Boulevard was closed this morning due to what could have been, a fatal collision. At 8:15 this morning, a young girl was near struck by a speeding Toyota Tundra. If it wasn’t for the quick thinking of Police Commissioner James Gordon, it would have been a fatal collision. We have had dozens of videos submitted showing before, during, and after the near incident.”
The image was then cut to a shaky video taken from a phone, show Commissioner Gordon bolting for a very tiny girl who was frozen in the path of the oncoming truck. The video showed Gordon tackling the girl. The view fell to the ground as the cameraman ran out into the street, catching Gordon yelling at the crowd while barking orders into his comm. It showed the girl had launched herself at Gordon with a heart wrenching cry. Gordon’s shocked face as he held the breaking girl, stroking her hair in a effort to calm her.
“As you can see, the civilian wasn’t injured in the crash, but some other footage showed something interesting.”
Another video appeared. This time, the sound was muffled but the footage was clear. It showed Gordon still holding the girl as someone was talking to her. As she turned her head, the camera caught a full view of her face. The frame froze, giving viewer a clear picture of her wide eyes dilated with panic, the swollen right side of her face, with a hand print displayed for all to see.
The sound of glass shattering snapped the entire family’s attention away from the news as the anchorman continued to talk. Their eyes landed on Jason, who stood frozen in the doorway, shattered glass mixed with candy lay scattered around him. Damian was about to snap at him when he saw the look on his brother’s face. Complete, utter shock and fear was etched on Jason’s face.
“Nettie?”

I’m Hopeless Now
Keep on Truckin’ AU Part 3
Word Count: 4491
Rating: Mature-ish
Warnings: Robincest (obviously, even if they’re not siblings in this au), mentions of terrible parenting, parental death, death by overdose, drug use, foster care
Pairing: Dick Grayson/Jason Todd
Summary: Jason takes Dick out on their first date and gives the other man a glimpse into a part of his life few know about.
Notes: There is just so much fluff in here. But the next installment has some angst, not like HEAVY angst but it's there.  Next up is Duke’s introduction to the ‘verse!
Also, I'm not a Spanish speaker but there are a few Spanish phrases in this story. If there are mistakes, let me know and I'll make the edits. Google and a Cuban friend were my sources. Grammatically, I went off what I know from my Italian knowledge. But I apologize if I got anything wrong.
Translations: mi amigo: my friend Ay amigo encontraste uno bueno: Oh friend, you found a good one tu cita: your date
You can also read this on AO3 here
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The dull thud of his head hitting the wall of his closet was the only sound outside of Jason’s muttering under his breath that could be heard in his place currently.  He liked silence, it was steadfast, and it allowed him to think clearly.  Though in the time he had spent over at Dick’s the past week, he had come to find having soft music or the tv on low volume constantly in the background was nice as well.
It had all been overpowered by Dick’s constant need to talk, but Jason hadn’t minded that either.
Jason knew that because he had been an only child to a pair of parents that absolutely should not have been parents, he never got accustomed to constantly having people coming and going.  But the time at Dick’s had showed him he could actually enjoy it.  Only a small portion of the time had been just the two of them.  If it wasn’t one of his brothers, then Dick’s friends (yes, he had managed to meet a couple more of the infamous harem) had an on-going rotation.  Kory and Roy had proven to be Jason’s favorites so far.  But from what Dick had said about Donna and Barbara, he was sure they would make that short list as well.
But while he had enjoyed the constant noise of Dick’s, right then he needed the silence he was used to because he was having a crisis:  He had absolutely nothing to wear to the date he was taking Dick on in just a few hours.
He had done his research and asked the few friends he had been able to get away from Dick to see what the other man liked, and it had all been a resounding and firm fun.  It didn’t matter where or what, just make sure it was fun and lively because the man enjoyed life.  He liked to smile, laugh, and soak in the presence of people who were enjoying themselves.  Jason’s past dates had all wanted expensive and to be spoiled.  Dick was the son of a billionaire and that meant he already knew expensive.  And while he wasn’t spoiled, he probably knew that already as well.
With the help of Roy, he had decided on a Cuban restaurant that was one of Jason’s favorites because the music was live and the food was amazing.  The staff knew him well and he loved submerging himself in the culture.  It was lively and fun and there was no way someone like Dick wouldn’t love it.  He was just slightly bummed that he wouldn’t be able to test out Dick’s dancing skills since he was technically still healing from being shot.
And while Jason had clothes he had worn there in the past, this was different.  He was taking a date there and not just any date.  Dick fucking Grayson.  The first guy he had been head over heels for in a long time.  The last time he had felt this strongly about someone, she had broken his heart and Jason had sworn off serious relationships.  Rose had done her damage.  Dick had started to heal it.  Without even meaning to, he had started to mend the broken part of his heart that Jason had tried to protect and build walls around.  The man was something else.
Glancing over his limited “date worthy” options, Jason gave up and grabbed a deep red sweater that had always been a crowd pleaser in the past and a pair of black slacks.  Casual but polished.  It would have to do.
He grabbed the pair of shoes he usually wore with the pants he had picked out before leaving his closet and dropping the items on his bed.  He had just over two hours to shower, shave, and primp before he was due at Dick’s.  He could do this.
He couldn’t do this.
He wasn’t sure what he had been thinking, but standing in front of Dick’s door he was starting to second guess why a man like Dick would ever want to go on a date with a man like Jason.  What could he possibly have to offer the older man?  And Jason knew that this was stupid, that Dick was a smart man and wouldn’t agree to a date or even openly say he wanted to date Jason if there wasn’t something he liked about the younger man.  But the panic was still there.
“There’s a security panel in his living room,” a laughing voice came from behind Jason, causing him to turn quickly to see Dick’s brother, Tim, standing there.  “You know he probably knows you’ve been standing here for like five minutes freaking out, right?”
“What?  I’m not…”  Tim raised an eyebrow and Jason let his shoulders slump.  “I’m totally freaking out and I have no idea why.  What are you doing here?”
Tim held up a bag that looked like it had containers of food in it.  “Alf can’t make it the normal day this week so he made the meals at the manor and asked me to drop them off.  I thought you two would already be gone.”
“I’m still early.”
“I don’t care.  All I want to know is if you want to come in with me now or wait to actually knock and have him open the door?”
Jason considered his options and shrugged.  “Now, I guess.”  Tim nodded and slipped his key into the lock, pushing the door open and heading inside.  “Not like he doesn’t already know, right?”  Tim laughed and headed further into the penthouse.
“Dick?!  I found a dude dressed for a good time in front of your door and let him in!”  Jason felt his cheeks warm at that comment but just took a deep breath and followed the path Tim took.
“What?”  Dick’s muffled voice came from the direction of his bedroom before Jason watched him come out wearing a pair of dangerously low slung dark gray pants and his dark blue button up unbuttoned, exposing a tempting amount of skin.  Well tempting if it hadn’t been partially marred by an angry looking healing patch of skin from his injury.  “Jay!  I’ll be ready in like two minutes!”  Jason shrugged as he watched Dick rush over to give Tim a hug before pressing a kiss to Jason’s cheek with a whispered you look amazing and rushing back into his bedroom.
“Maybe he hadn’t noticed,” Tim commented as he opened the freezer and started moving things around to fit the containers of food he had brought.  “By the way, Damian ran a background check on you and is impressed at your culinary school accomplishments.”  Jason sputtered at that and looked at Tim with wide eyes, but the college student wasn’t paying him any attention.
“How..?  Is this a weird Wayne thing that Roy warned me about?”
“Yup.”
“What did Roy warn you about?”  Jason turned his head to look at Dick who was now completely done up and moving to the couch to pull on his socks and shoes.
“Weird Wayne things,” Tim called out, head buried in the freezer still.
“Oh yeah.  Did Dames do something?  Or was it Bruce this time?”
“Demon brat.”
“Don’t call him that.  What did Dami do and do I need to talk to him about it?”  When Tim didn’t answer, Dick glanced over at Jason to see if he knew.
“Background check.  Apparently, my culinary school accomplishments are reason to be proud.”  Dick looked like he was considering the actions before shrugging and going back to his shoes.  “Have you done a background check on me?”
“Nah,” Dick said, standing and smoothing down his pants before moving over to where Jason was still standing and smiled up at him.  “Bruce did it long before I even considered it.  All I had to do was mention you one time at Family Dinner and he knew.”  Knew?  Dick must have seen the question in his eyes because he laughed and pressed a hand over Jason’s heart.  The motion did not send a wave of warmth through his chest.  Nope.  “He knew I wanted to know more about you.  That I would want you to know more about me.”
“That predictable?”  Jason teased, raising his hand to cover Dick’s.
“Maybe.  Or maybe he could tell it was different this time.”
“Jeeze, now I get what Damian was complaining about.  You’re disgusting.”  Jason looked over to see Tim giving them a look that spoke of bad smells or unpleasant flavors.  “Aren’t you guys going on a date?”  Dick huffed out a laugh and Jason dropped his hand from Dick’s so the other man could move away and gather whatever else he needed.  Which was a wallet from the kitchen island and a cell from the docking station near the couch.
“All right, I’m good to go.”  Dick told Jason as he double checked everything.  “You’ll lock up and set alarms before you leave, Timmy?”
“I might hang out for a bit, if that’s cool?  B has Selina over today and Damian is on high alert.”
“You got it.  Guest room is yours if you want it.”
“But…”
Even Jason knew what that but was about and he couldn’t help but shake his head at the implication.
“What kind of harlot do you take me for, Tim?  Not on the first date!”  He was joking, though.  With Dick?  He totally would fall into his bed on the first date.  If he hadn’t been shot a few weeks ago.
“Uh huh,” came the unimpressed reply.  “Have fun you two.  Bring back ice cream if you can.”
Dick called out his goodbye and grabbed Jason’s hand, tugging him toward the door before Jason could say much more than a goodbye as well.
“Who is Selina?”  Jason asked curiously as they headed for the elevator.
“Bruce’s on-again/off-again girlfriend.  They’re obviously on at the moment.”  That was all Dick offered as they stepped onto the elevator and he hit the bottom for the lobby.  “So, where are we going?  Roy hinted that he knew but you have been so hush hush on it.”
“That’s only because it took me a while to figure out where to take someone who has probably experienced every date worthy spot in this city.”
Dick pressed a hand to his own chest and tried to look offended.  “Are you calling me a serial dater?”
“Nah, but Wally did suggest that you had made the rounds in your circle of friends…”  Jason teased, smirking.
“Hogwash,” Dick waved his hand.  “I’ve never dated Kal or Donna.”
“Only those two?”
“Eh, it’s hard to keep track of who I actually dated and who I’ve just ‘had fun’ with.”  Jason knew Dick was joking, thanks to Wally actually clearing up the fact that Dick had really only dated and/or slept with a small portion of their friend group and he had been joking.  But the idea of Dick being so flippant about something Jason had been so serious about in his own life was a change.
“Your dating history aside, I actually just meant that I know Bruce Wayne likes to spend his money on Gothamite businesses.  So, I assumed that included restaurants.”
“That’s absolutely true.  But there are plenty of places I have never been.”
“And I found one, according to Roy.  One that I frequent actually.”  Dick raised a brow in question, the ding of the elevator reaching the lobby filling the small space.  Gesturing for Dick to go first, Jason followed him toward the front door where the valet had allowed him to park his motorcycle earlier.
“I assume it’ll be good food then.  A man with your talent wouldn’t accept anything less.”  Jason simply nodded and thanked the man holding his keys out for him.  “Are you going to tell me?”  Jason just shook his head and smiled, handing Dick a helmet he had brought along before grabbing his own.  Dick simply rolled his eyes and tugged the helmet on.
The ride to the restaurant was short, no more than ten minutes, but Jason was man enough to admit that he wished it were longer just for the fact that Dick would keep his arms wrapped around his waist.  But since he couldn’t actually just drive randomly around the city, he settled for grabbing Dick’s hand to hold while they walked up to Havana, the music already easily heard from outside the building.
“Here?”  Dick question, flicking the thumb of his free hand toward the double doors of the restaurant Jason had chosen.  Jason nodded and watched Dick turn back to take in the choice.  The smile that spread across his face was enough for Jason to know he had made the right choice.  “I have heard about it but you’re right, I’ve never been.”
“Well, allow me to introduce you to one of the best restaurants in Gotham,” Jason told him as he tugged open one of the doors and let Dick walk in before him.  The warmth of the room hit them immediately and Jason took a deep breath, letting the spices fill his senses before he smiled at Sofia, the owners daughter who happened to be the hostess for the night.  “Sofia,” he greeted, smiling softly at the teenager.
“Jason, hi!”  The girl smiled brightly before looking at Dick and Jason could tell the moment she recognized exactly who he was.  “Oh wow.”  Jason couldn’t help but chuckle, but Dick had his attention turned elsewhere so he nudged his date.
“Oh, sorry.  This place is amazing,” Dick commented, looking toward Jason before turning to look at the girl who was so obviously fangirling.
“This is Sofia, she’s the owner’s daughter,” Jason supplied, and Dick turn his charming smile onto the girl.  “We’ll take a table for two, Sof.”  The girl nodded, but her eyes remained wide and on Dick.  Not that Jason could blame her.  Richard Grayson was a beloved celebrity of Gotham.  Bruce had his own following, but Dick was considered the sweetheart of the city.  He charmed everyone who came into contact with him.
“This way,” the girl said, trying to maintain some sort of professional appeal as she led them to Jason’s favorite spot and set their menus down before they took their seats.  “Jorge will be over in a minute.  Do you want the usual drink?”  Being a regular meant the staff knew Jason’s favorites but they didn’t know Dick’s.
“I’ll wait for Jorge,” he told her, and she nodded with a smile, glancing one last time to Dick who flashed her another bright smile, before she rushed off.  “You have a fan.”
Dick snorted and picked up the menu.  “I tend to have them everywhere.  She was sweet though.”  And Jason just couldn’t get over that.  How could someone be so used to that sort of attention?  “So tell me, Mr. Todd, what is your usual?”
“They make a fantastic daiquiri,” Jason shrugged, unapologetic from the seemingly “feminine” cocktail.
“That we do!”  Jason looked over to find the familiar waiter standing by their table, smiling at the two of them.  Though, Jason could see the question in his eye when his gaze landed on Dick and moved back to Jason.  “Shall I have two whipped up?  It’s mango season and we just had a fresh batch delivered.”
“Oh yes, that sound like heaven.”  Dick’s reply surprised him, but it probably shouldn’t have.  So, he simply nodded his agreement.
“And the usual chips and dip, mi amigo?”  Jason nodded and Jorge headed off to the bar to take care of the starters.
“You know, I should be upset you brought me to a place made for dancing when I’m under strict orders to avoid it,” Dick drew his attention.  Jason leaned his elbows on the table and smiled at Dick, shrugging a shoulder.
“When you’re given the all clear, I’m more than happy to bring you back just to get you on that dance floor.”
“I’ll be holding you to that,” Dick smiled, leaning onto the table as well.  And there was no doubt in Jason’s mind that he would do just that.  “So you come here enough that you have regular orders and the waiter calls you his friend.”
Jason shrugged a shoulder.  “Jorge calls everyone friend.”  Dick raised an eyebrow and Jason couldn’t help but chuckle.  “Okay fine, yes.  I come here at least once a week.  Most of the time I carry out, but a couple times a month I eat in.  A lot of them also order from my truck.”
And Jason had really liked that they respected him as a customer enough to try and support him as well.  It was a true brotherhood of sorts.  And a lot of Gotham had that same vibe.  You look after me, so I look after you.
Jason kept his eyes on Dick and observed him taking in everything around them.  It was so strange to see someone who wanted to take it all in.  In the past, his dates had always been more focused on the moment between them.  But this sort of air between them spoke of comfort and not feeling like they had to impress each other.  They had already done that.  Jason was already gone and he could tell in the small touches and the smiles that Dick was right there with him.
So instead of focusing on Jason, Dick’s eyes scanned the room.  Jason watched his head bob to the upbeat music coming from the stage.  He saw the longing as sapphire eyes drifted over the couples dancing, pausing at a mother/son pair that caused what looked like pain to spill into his eyes.  But it was gone as quickly as Dick moved his eyes over to the bar area where there were rowdy customers enjoying a sporting event while drinking.
“This place is magical,” Dick said, finally turning his eyes back to Jason.  The smile on his face was comfortable and relaxed.  He looked no different than when they were on the couch eating a meal Jason had prepared.  And Jason couldn’t help but feel the same.
The moment was broken by the return of Jorge with their drinks and the chips.  He gave a warning to Dick about the spice levels of the salsas he had put down but Dick simply waved a hand at that and went right for the hottest.  And since Jason had already made his spicy chili for the man and had watched him not bat an eyelash, he just watched Jorge’s eyes widen as Dick showed no signs of trauma as he went in for another.
“Ay amigo encontraste uno bueno,” Jorge clapped Jason on the shoulder with a bright laugh and Dick smirked.  Jorge probably had no idea Dick could understand.  “Do you know what you’d like?”
Jason looked over at Dick and raised an eyebrow to see if he knew what he would like.  Dick held up a finger and opened the menu quickly to scan it as he chewed before swallowing.  “Oh, you do have it!  Rabo encendido, por favor,” Dick said, accent perfectly on point and Jason tried not to take too much pleasure out of Jorge’s surprise.
“Si, best there is amigo.”  Jorge looked over at Jason who simply nodded as he grabbed Dick’s menu and handed both his and Dick’s over to Jorge.  “Alejandra is in the back, I’ll let her know you’re here.  She’ll want to meet tu cita.”  Dick’s laughter as Jorge walked away was worth the flush he could feel on his face at the teasing.
“Hey,” Dick pulled his attention away from him watching Jorge head to the kitchen.  He found Dick with his drink raised for a cheers and a cheeky smile on his face.  “To us?  It only took us forever to get to this point, but I’m glad we’re here.”
Jason grabbed his glass and clinked it with Dick’s, his smile going soft and that warm feeling in his chest returning.  “Yeah, to you not dying and me not thinking you just ditched me.”  Dick snorted into his cup and Jason wanted to pinch himself because how could that action be just as endearing as the moment they had earlier with Dick’s hand pressed over his heart and his own hand covering Dick’s?  He was a goner.  There was no hope for him in that moment.  None at all.
The ease the date started with continued on through the meals and Jason found himself enjoying a more lively side of Dick as he fed off the environment of the room.  The cheerful banter he exchanged with the owner of the restaurant and Jorge left Jason even more glad he had decided on a place that meant something to him personally.  Yes, there were other restaurants in the city that he was considered a regular at, but not like this.  Not since Alejandra had known the woman who had raised him.  How he had stayed at the Rivera house after she had died.  But Dick didn’t know any of that.  He didn’t know how much this place meant to him and the impact it had on his career choice because Jason had never told him.  Instead he watched Dick form his own opinion on the people he cared about and let him charm them without any influence.
“You know,” Dick’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts, drawing ocean blue eyes to sapphire.  “You haven’t told me how you came to be a regular here.”  His eyes were bright, cheeks splashed with red from the alcohol consumption, and his smile loose.  A smile always so freely given.
“I’ve known Alejandra since I was young.  She helped me when I had no one else.”  He watched Dick tilt his head to the side, prompting him to continue.  Taking a deep breath, Jason let it out slowly and steeled himself for sharing this.  “She was my mother’s friend, the only one that I know of outside of her drug addicted friends.”  Swirling the melted frozen drink in his glass, he let his eyes slip just past Dick’s shoulder.  “When my dad just stopped coming home, I spent a lot of time with Alejandra because my mother wasn’t exactly a good parent.  And when Catherine died of an OD, Alejandra took me in.”
The hand that appeared over the one still swirling his drink around caught Jason off guard and he looked back to Dick.  “You don’t have to do this here.  I didn’t know, I’m sorry.”  And it struck him again, with those words, that he really had no idea how he had managed to score a guy like Dick.  His date who just wanted to know more about the past that Jason kept under lock and key.
“I want to tell you.”  Which was absolutely the truth.  Jason wanted to let Dick into every corner of his life, let him fill in the empty spaces of his heart.  “But maybe not here.”  He watched Dick nod in understanding and Jason felt his shoulders relax a little.  He hadn’t even noticed that he had tensed up, but obviously Dick had.
“Let’s square up here and then head back toward my place.  There’s a gelato place a block away that Timmy likes the best, we can take a walk.  Looks like a nice night.”
Jason sighed and smiled.  “Yeah, that sounds perfect.”  With a glance over his shoulder, Jason coughed Jorge’s attention and the man gave a nod before getting to work on closing their tab.  Jason pushed to his feet and looked at Dick who’s brow had furrowed in an adorably confused expression.  “They have my card on file.  And Jorge knows to add 25% each time.”
“I was thinking we could split the bill, though…”  Jason laughed at that idea.  The glare Dick sent him was just as cute as the confusion and Jason just held out his hand to help Dick out of his own chair.  “Fine, but I get to pay for the gelato.”
“Sure thing, Handsome.  Sure thing.”
Dick gracefully got to his feet and brushed off phantom crumbs while keeping hold of Jason’s hand.  Jason watched him in amusement before letting the older man lead him toward the exit.
“Bye Jay!  Bye Dick,” Sofia called out from her post near the door.  Jason paused to kiss the girl’s cheek and Dick gave her his blinding smile and a wave before the pair slipped back out into the cooling Gotham night air.
The pair were silent as they made their way back to Jason’s motorcycle and then back to Dick’s apartment building.  It wasn’t until they were close to the gelato shop that Dick paused and turned to face Jason.
“Before we’re back in a crowd of people or with Timmy, I just wanted to say thank you.  Not just for the amazing night, but for letting me into that piece of your life.  I don’t ask about your past because I can tell it’s private.  And if you want to tell me one day, then I’ll be happy to listen,” he spoke softly and Jason just remained silent, letting him say his piece.  “But don’t think you ever have to tell me anything you don’t want to talk about.  There are things that will take me a while to talk about and I know you’ll respect that.  I just want to make sure you know that I’ll do the same.”
Waiting a moment to be sure that Dick was done, Jason took a step closer and placed the hand not still being held by Dick’s onto the older man’s cheek.  “I don’t know what I did to deserve someone like you, but I’m really fucking glad I did it.”  He cut Dick’s responding laugh off with his mouth, pressing their lips together in a way not too dissimilar to the kiss they had shared in the hospital not too long ago.
The feeling of Dick’s hand slipping around his hip to clench at his sweater on back told him that he had made the right move.  The press of their bodies together coupled with the hum of approval from Dick was all the encouragement Jason needed to slip his hand from Dick’s cheek to his hair to angle the other man’s head just so.
When Jason finally pulled back, he couldn’t help but smile at the sight of Dick chasing his lips.  “Let’s get that ice cream and head back to give your brother some.”
“If you’re interested, we can put in a movie?”  It was the first time Dick had sounded a bit hesitant with him since they had decided to give a relationship a try and it made Jason’s heart clench a little.
“That sounds perfect.”  Dick’s responding smile had Jason leaning forward for one more kiss before they walked the rest of the way to the gelato shop.
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/20887313/chapters/63774805 Taglist: @bluesimani (OPEN)
Ok so here’s the next chap!! Date night for Daminette and...i still dont got a ship name for em...Dick/Alya/Xavier. Please help my sad ass out n suggest some possible ship names for em. Could be their names mashed together like daminette or even somethin bout personality or jobs. Idk, just somethin that fits em n doesn’t sound weird. Thank you very much. Anyways, it’s the date chap!! Next chap, idk maybe it’ll be xanila(Xan/Lila does that sound fine or ew?), or it could be a battle....ehehe or somethin else~. Ok, enjoy!
Alya giggled as she took the offered rose from Dick. “How long have you had this?” she asked with a tilt of her head as the officers around them cooed.
“I ordered it at lunch and had Sarah pick it up for me on her way back from her break an hour ago,” Dick replied with a soft smile as he took Alya’s other hand as she returned the smile.
“Why not wait to get it for when you pick me up after I get changed? While sweet, I’d rather not go out all grimy from a day of hard work,” she said and Dick gave a small shrug as he gave her hand a squeeze.
“Maybe I wanted to give it to you before we part?” he asked with his signature charming smile on his lips as he watched a faint blush decorate her cheeks.
“Oh! God, I forgot how cheesy you could be,” she said as Dick moved his other hand to push a strand of her hair behind her ear.
“Only for you and Xavier,” he whispered with a smile as she turned her face away from Dick because she knew she’d be blushing harder if she was looking at him.
“We should get going,” she mumbled and he nodded agreement.
“Yes, lets,” he agreed, leading her out of the precinct, waving to their coworker friends.
“Go get it, Alya!” one shouted causing Alya to laugh while her blush deepened knowing exactly what they meant.
“Maybe after the next date!” she shouted back before the doors closed behind them. Dick chuckled softly next to her as they reached her car.
“See you in an hour,” Dick whispered raising her hand to his lips to place a kiss onto her fingers.
“An hour,” she agreed, squeezing his hand before letting go and slipping into her car as he then held the door open. She smiled softly at him as he closed the door for her. Giving one last wave she left the precinct and he went to his own car to head home to get ready for his date. Once he was home, he ran past his brothers to clean up and put on a blue button-up and black pants. As he walked down the stairs he rolled the sleeves up to his elbows.
“Lookin spiffy Dickie boy. Got a hot date?” Jason asked with a smirk and Dick rolled his eyes.
“Yes, I do. Two hot dates even,” he said with a smirk, and that had Jason pausing.
“Damn, you actually asked them out. I’d have thought it’d take longer,” Jason said, causing Dick to once more roll his eyes.
“Har har har. I’m off now, hopefully, I’ll be able to beat rush hour. Go tease Damian for me,” Dick said grabbing his keys and Jason smirked as he started turning around.
“Not on your life, Todd!” Damian yelled out as his voice echoed thru the manor before it disappeared.
“Damian is leaving as well, Master Jason,” Alfred said and Jason turned to find Dick already out of the manor as well and frowned. “Please fetch Master Tim from work if he’s not back by 7,” Alfred said and Jason nodded. Getting the nod, Alfred turned around to continue what he was doing. The drive to Xavier’s home was quick. Xavier waved as he made his way to the car and slipped into the passenger seat, giving Dick a sweet smile. Dick returned the sweet smile as he looked over Xavier who seemed to be in his usual attire of a button-up shirt(a deep ocean blue instead of the white he wore at work), black pants, and his usual bowtie in a deep green that went well with the blue shirt.
“Hey. You look amazing, Dick,” Xavier whispered, taking Dick’s hand into his to give it a squeeze before they pulled away from the apartment complex.
“Hey, you look great yourself, Xavier. How’s your family?” Dick asked as they started toward Alya’s apartment.
“Melody is done with everyone at the hotel and the dance company is not appreciating her busy schedule. However, for mum, everything is fairly smooth sailing at the boutique. How are your brothers?” Xavier asked looking over at Dick, watching as the flickering on street lamps light up his face.
“Lovable pain in the asses. Jason gets a kick when he has to pull someone from their work, Tim gets distracted by his work so he’s the recipient of that. Damian is actually going out on a date with the girl he’s been crushing on for a while now. Duke is finally getting back tomorrow at some point, it really depends on how many stops the buses make. Steph and Cass. We have no idea when they’ll get back but they said things are going well over there so here’s to hoping,” Dick explained with a chuckle that Xavier shared.
“Tim is co-CEO of WE right?”
“Yes, why?” Dick tilted his head curiously at the question while Xavier chuckled.
“Melody said she had to go talk to CEO Tim about some things the board order her hotel have done since her GM is hiding from doing it even thou she’s not the most qualified too,” Xavier explained and Dick nodded at that.
“Ah, lazy people. But knowing Tim, hearing what’s wrong he’ll try fixing those mistakes,” Dick replied and Xavier nodded agreement from what he'd seen of Tim. They soon reached Alya’s apartment complex and watched with smiles as Alya seemed to be telling Xan something before hugging him and heading out. “Wow,” was all that left the two as they took in Alya wearing a fit and flare deep purple dress. A slim black belt around her waist covering the seam at the waist. She kept on her studs from work and had a black string necklace tied in a bow around her neck. She kept her makeup much the same with only eyeliner and pink lipstick. Her hair was braided and tied with a black ribbon and on her feet were small black, kitten wedges.
“Hi,” she whispered shyly when Xavier slipped from the car and held the door open for her so she could take the passenger seat. “You look great. You kept on your bow tie,” she said moving to straighten the bow tie since it moved since he left his apartment.
“Obviously, they’re part of the package. And may I say, you look lovely,” Xavier said, causing a faint blush to dust her cheeks when she smiled at him and squeezed his hand before he closed the door.
“Xavier’s correct, you look beautiful,” Dick said causing her blush to deepen. She was used to the precinct being silly what with complimenting everyone, especially her after she dressed like a Greek Goddess for Dick’s Halloween party for their coworkers(she couldn’t even remember who she dressed as, Dick remembers tho). She would have thought that conversation would have stopped since it’s been at least a couple of years. But alas. But hearing her dates say it, that was different than a friend.
“You two look quite handsome yourself,” Alya replied, happy to see faint blushes on their faces as well.
“I have a feeling, this will go well,” Dick said as they started toward the restaurant Dick got reservations for.
Damian had a small smile on  his lips as he waited for Mari to come down. He glanced at his watch, pleased to see they had some time still before it was time for their reservation.
Lila smiled at Mari as the girl twitched beside her in the elevator. “Everything will be fine, Mari. You look amazing! That dress you made is amazing, it will knock his socks off. He clearly really likes you, I doubt you could do anything to make him change his mind, ok?” Lila asked and Mari nodded. She rubbed her hands down the red spaghetti-strapped dress, along the hemline were hidden ladybugs. Around her waist was a corset-like lace up belt that clipped together in the back, around the ribbon lace-up was black floral lace with hidden ladybugs. She left her purse in the room but Tikki and Kalki(along with Kalki’s glasses) were in her dress’s hidden pockets. She had a cropped black jacket over the dress with the lining inside red. She had on simple blac, kitten heels.
Mari gave her friend a small smile. ”Thanks, Lila. And tomorrow, I’ll help you prepare for your date with Xan on Saturday,” Mari said and Lila nodded agreement as they reached the lobby.
“Ok, see you later. Don’t stay out too late. Have fun,” Lila said, pulling the girl into a hug. Mari returned the hug before pulling away and leaving the elevator. With one last wave, Mari went throu the swinging door and left the hotel with a smile.
“Hi, Dami,” Mari greeted shyly as she reached Damian’s car. Damian was leaning against the car and smiled at Mari.
“Hello, Angel. May I say you look gorgeous,” he said, taking one of her hands into his and raising it to his lips to press a kiss to her hand. Mari smiled softly at that as she blushed.
“As long as I can return the sentiment. You look quite dashing,” she said and Damian smiled as he opened the door for her. When she was in and settled, he closed the door and made his way to the driver's seat. “Be prepared for in case our date gets interrupted, Dami,” she warned and he nodded with a smirk.
“Of course. Should you need help, I came prepared as well,” he replied, jerking his head to the backseat were a duffle bag sat inconspicuously. She smiled thankfully at that and took one of his hands into her and gave it a squeeze.
“Thank you,” she whispered, holding his hand between hers as he started driving.
~~~~~~~~~~~~(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tim sighed as he scribbled some stuff down into his notes. He glanced up at his laptop to continue skimming over the report. His comm buzzed and he stopped writing to press a button to talk to his secretary. “Yes, Carrie?” he asked, tilting his head a bit.
“A, Miss Reeves, is here to speak to you. She works at the Crown Coast Hotel as an OM. Her hotel is housing the internship class,” Carrie said and Tim hummed in thought as to what the OM would need.
“Send her in,” Tim sighed out, he was so close to escaping the company. The door to his office swung open slowly to reveal a woman who looked similar to Dick’s date Xavier, her skin a couple shades lighter, which means this must be his sister Melody. She was wearing her Hotel’s uniform which was a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, the logo right where a name tag would go. Her shirt was tucked into a black pencil skirt, and she had on black ballet flats. She somehow got her wavy-tight curls under control to be in a ponytail held by a red ribbon, no doubt there was a hair tie under it. “Hello, you must be Melody Reeves,” he greeted her and she gave him a smile as she went to shake his hand after moving a file to her other hand.
“Good evening, Mr. Drake-Wayne. I’m sorry to come on such short notice but your board that oversees all the hotels WE owns have made a mistake for my hotel,” she started and Tim nodded as he sat down behind his desk and pushed his notebook away to focus on the woman in front of him as she sat down across from him and leaned forward a bit to place the file onto his desk.
“Really? If that’s the case how come you came down and not the GM?” he asked curious since this seems to be something above her position's duties. A scowl painted her lips as she shook her head, her hair flying behind her.
“It’s because my GM doesn’t like to do the duties assigned to him. I brought it up to him when I realized but he didn’t want to come here and disturb you sir. But this cannot wait,” she explained and he nodded as he opened the file. While nothing stood out, he knew that Melody would know more since she was working at the hotel.
“What seems to be the problem then? I’m not well versed on the ins and outs of running or working in a hotel,” he said and she nodded and pointed to the first thing listed that the board agreed on.
“Starting here, the board ordered us to supply our sister hotel with spare microwaves and such appliances. Normally this wouldn’t be an issue, but as it is, most of our supply is in use. The few remaining we have we can’t give out since most of our’s are on their last legs. As it is, we are keeping a couple rooms unoccupied to strip them of anything we can to give to other rooms. And we’ve asked the board for help but they are leaving us to use the money we make to place the items but we don’t have enough money. Any money left is being squirreled away to either pay our employees or the repair men we call in when something major breaks,” she started pointing to different things under the first point so that he could understand better. As she explained he nodded along and started writing in the margins of the file.
This is how the next hour is spent for Tim, listening to everything the board decided for the next few months will go for a hotel is bad. They were just finishing up when Jason knocked as he pushed open the door. “Ready to go, Timmy-boi?” he asked with a sideways grin. Tim shook his head, glancing between Melody and Jason.
“Not yet, Jason. Give me a few more moments while I finish up this meeting with Ms. Reeves,” he said and Jason nodded and went to sit on one of the couches in Tim’s office. He glanced out and watched as two shadows, a girl and boy he could make out, jump across roofs. His eyes widened and he glanced back to Tim who was shaking the woman's hand.
“Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ll speak to the board about this in the morning and make the appropriate changes,” he said and the woman had a grateful smile, seemingly brightening up the room in Tim’s opinion.
“No, thank you, Tim. Have a good night,” she said standing up and walking from the room and closing the door behind her.
“Tim, tell me you have binoculars in your office,” he said and Tim nodded wondering what Jason saw as he snatched the binoculars out of Tim’s hands. As he zoomed in on the two, he could tell the girl was in her early 20s and the boy late teens. They had stuff covering their faces, probably a precaution to protect themselves.
“What is it?” Tim asked, looking over Jason’s shoulders and making out the two shadowy figures.
“It seems there’s two people training. For what, I don’t know,” Jason said as he gave Tim the binoculars. Tim looked at the two and nodded agreement. They knew each other definitely and the moves they did weren’t filled with any intention besides practicing. As he lowered them, the two took off and Tim hummed. “What do you say?”
“I say those moves look familiar no?” Tim asked and Jason slowly nodded agreement. “There’s only a few people who know how to fight like that and most are busy. So that means that that is Xan. Which most likely means Lana’s with him. He’s probably training with her to prevent what happened to him happening to anyone else in the family,” Tim said and Jason slowly nodded.
“That would make sense, but Joker was the only one crazy enough to work with the League. And he’s out of the picture. Thank fucking god tho,” Jason muttered the last part under his breath. Tim couldn’t help overhearing tho and he couldn’t agree more with him. “But I guess, you can never be too prepared,” he continued and Tim nodded.
“Let’s not tell Bruce. We can’t stop people from preparing themselves to defend their home or family when they get caught up in a Rouge attack,” Tim said and Jason nodded agreement.
“Now, we need to get home. I don’t want to have Alfred giving me his disappointed look,” Jason said and Tim nodded, picking up his stuff and following him out. As he left his office he smiled at Carrie.
“Goodnight, Carrie. Don’t stay too late,” he called and Carrie nodded, pushing back some hair that had left her perfectly styled bun. He’d have told her to relax but knew she didn’t need to. The one time he brought her soup when she had laryngitis showed him that when she was at home she was relaxed. He could respect that she liked having everything look perfect when at work.
“Will do, sir. Goodnight,” she called back as she sent emails to assistants to make a meeting of the board for tomorrow morning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Come on, Alya should be getting back soon. I want to know everything,” Lana said smiling over at Xan who nodded.
“Alright. We can continue tomorrow. Would you be ok with Damian and Mari coming along to help? They know more than me,” Xan replied and Lana nodded.
“Alright. If your sure they can help,” Lana agreed and Xan smiled with a nod.
If only you knew. Of course, they may tell you when they hear what your doing....we should also tell Als, Xan thought to himself as they ran across the rooftops to reach Alya’s place.
Alster @Bi_Arrow Had the best time with these two. Can't wait to go out with them again #datenight #wentwell #hadagreattime #poly *Alya smiling happily at the camera as her arms are wrapped around Dick and Xavier’s arms. The two are smiling softly as they lean in close to her*
Mari-aculous @MDC_Designs Can’t believe we waited so long to do this. But it was worth the wait #untilnexttime #cantwait #date
Worth Chapter 3
(*DISCLAIMER: THIS CHAPTER USES VULGAR LANAGUE AS LILA IS A COMPLETE BITCH IN IT, I HATE HER AND SHE’S STUPID AND UGLY, WOW THIS DISCLAIMER TURNED INTO A RANT ABOUT HOW MUCH I HATE LILA)
Also yay! We finally are given the baddie of the plot, though it’s up to you to figure out who it is. Since I don’t want you to know who it is I’ll be referring to he/she as “you” (that’s a little trick I learned from Jennifer Lynn Barnes, my favorite author).
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
Dark hair, blue eyes, and French. That was your MO. The skin tone didn’t matter, which is what had the GCPD so mixed up and frazzled. You laughed to yourself as you poured a glass of Chardonnay. There’d been a lull in your girls, mostly the French part. Last time was so...unsatisfactory. She was only a quarter French and she didn’t scream like the others. You disposed of her quickly, and even though she wasn’t what you had hoped you still took a lock of her hair and added it to your collection. You were missing the adrenaline, but you told yourself to be patient, a French class was coming soon. There’d definitely be someone there, maybe even international news. The justice league would probably thank you personally when they found out who the person behind the mask was who rid the world of its scum. You smiled to yourself, ‘I’d be famous worldwide and another French bitch would be out of the world for good.’
Kay wasn’t an early riser, neither was Marinette. That could only end disastrously, luckily, a certain Wayne family decided to call their friend’s daughter for a wake up call. Purely so she wouldn’t be late to their tour, although they did enjoy talking to her. Steph and Kay were very close friends, the closest out of the rest of the family, though Dick did enjoy Kay’s positive personality. Steph was extremely aggravated when she learned Kay was coming to Gotham because she was with Barbara and Cass for a girl’s week. Kay promised to make it up to her though.
So when Kay’s phone went off blasting “Candy Store” she immediately knew that the Wayne family was calling to wake her up. She smiled to herself as she turned off the alarm, it was nice to have people care.
“Oof what time is it?” Kay asked. “We woke you about an hour before you have to leave for the tour.” Said Dick. “Dope, thanks Dick! See ya soon!”
To be honest, Kay was afraid that she would sleep and nobody would wake her up, causing her and Marinette to miss the tour. She dug in her suitcase until she found her favorite shirt, it was the same color as her aqua blue eyes and it read, “Theatre is my sport” (side note I also own this shirt). She laughed at her friend who was still fast asleep, “Mari.” She said walking over to her friend and poking her.
Nothing.
“Mariiiii.” Kay said louder. “Marinette, Marinette, Marinette, MARINETTE!!!”
Still nothing.
“God I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do this especially so early in the morning…” Kay cleared her throat and leaned down to Marinette’s ear, channeling her inner Christine Daaé she sang the highest note she could hit.
Marinette shot up, rubbing her pounding head. “The hell? Why do I have a ringing in my ears?” Kay shuffled away with a guilty smile, “I mean- somebody may have sang an E6 in your ear, but in all fairness you weren’t waking up!” Marinette groaned and shook her head. “Thanks for waking me up, even though the means weren’t…what I was expecting. I thought I was going to miss the Wayne Enterprises tour for sure.” Kay giggled, “Honestly me too. Sounds like some shit Lila would try to pull. I wouldn’t worry too much though, Dick would never let us miss the tour.” Kay winked as she walked into the hotel room’s bathroom.
“Dick? Wait isn’t that the American word for-“
“Yeah but it’s also a name. Short for Richard. Bruce Wayne, the Wayne Enterprises guy is his father. Well Bruce adopted him technically. The Waynes are the family my mom and I know from Gotham, Damian, the guy I’m totally setting you up with, is the youngest family member.” Kay exclaimed, the bathroom walls were thin but it was still slightly muffled. “Right that random guy you were shipping me with.” Marinette laughed. “You got it!
“I’m excited for you to meet them, I bet you’ll love the whole family and vice versa. Damian should be coming with Dick on the tour, Tim, one of the other brothers, is working there, so we probably won’t see him. The girls are away and Jason is probably- well Jason’s probably still sleeping.” Kay laughed as she walked out of the bathroom in her favorite shirt, baggy jeans, and dark brown hair in long curls.
“What about Bruce Wayne? Oh my god is he coming?! If he is I have to choose a whole new outfit! AHHH NOTHING I HAVE WOULD WORK!!” Marinette panicked as she tossed her clothes across the floor. “Relax Mari! Bruce won’t care if you’re dressed up or anything. We might not even see him!” Marinette slumped, “I still need to dress up a little though.” Kay giggled, “Ok sure. Whatever you say.”
Marinette ended up going with a red sundress and she wore Kaaliki’s glasses she was given from Master Fu, in case Ladybug needed to be in Paris. They transformed into black plastic glasses with a thin rim.
“Cool shades Mari, since when do you wear glasses though?” Asked Kay popping a piece of waffle into her mouth. “Oh these just accent the piece.” Kay laughed, “You’re such a fashion geek.” Marinette threw one of her blouses on the floor at her, “You’re such a theatre geek.” Kay fell onto the floor in dramatic agony, “You’ve wounded me to my very core, how will I ever survive? Unless they get the fright of their lives.” Marinette rolled her eyes as Kay got lost in her own world singing songs from Beetlejuice and eating her waffle. “Come on nerd, we don’t want to be late.” Marinette said as she extended an arm, Kay promptly took it and stood up once more. “I mean, if we’re late that’s one less minute we have to spend with Liar Rossi…”
“Just come on!” Marinette laughed. The girls walked down the hallway until they arrived to the main lobby where the French class was chatting. Alya walked over to them leaving Lila who was fuming that Alya would leave her for Marinette. “Hey girl, can’t believe you woke up early for once. Hey Kay.”
‘No way in Hell is Alya choosing the weird new girl over me!’ Lila screamed internally
Marinette chuckled, “Yep. Without Kay I definitely wouldn’t have though.”
Lila huffed.
“Thanks for keeping my girl straight Kay!” Alya said giving Kay a playful nudge on the shoulder.
‘Oh that is it!!!’ Lila watzled over to the trio of girls. “Hi girls! Oh Kay! Almost didn’t see you! I forgot to mention earlier, people in Gotham don’t really appreciate fags, so maybe turn down your, you know, lesbian urges and stuff.”
Shock. Was all Marinette felt, then she saw red. She vaguely comprehended Kay holding her back, “Oh yeah Lila? I forgot to mention earlier that people in Gotham don’t really appreciate lying bitches, so maybe tone down your psychopathic tendencies.”
“Kay totally uncalled for!” Alya barked. “Are you kidding Alya?! Didn’t you hear what Lila said?!” Marinette screamed. Lila started to blubber, “I’m- so- s-sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt your f-feelings!” She wailed overtop the commotion, adding to the cacophony and causing all eyes to be on them, ‘perfect’. “See, you made her cry! Girl, I can’t believe you’d do this! I always gave you the benefit of the doubt but Lila was right, you are a bully!” Marinette huffed and Kay suppressed screams while still fuming. Alya stormed off, and Lila swooped into the conversation once more. “Kay, do you have a crush on me, or something? Is that why you’re acting this way?!” Kay scoffed, “Please, I have standards. You were right about one thing though, I am gay, but being gay isn’t an insult so I’d take your bullshit elsewhere, because the only insult you doled out throughout this conversation was that I could ever have a crush on someone like you!” Kay pointed at Lila to emphasize her point and before the class could turn on her she took Marinette’s hand and they walked out the double doors of the hotel and waited outside for the bus to arrive.
“Are you okay?” Asked Marinette, placing a hand on Kay’s shoulder. “Yeah fine, I just wish people were more tolerant, and you know that wasn’t exactly my ideal way of coming out to you or the class, but sometimes my mouth just starts moving and I can’t get it to stop.” Kay sniffed, “What’s wrong with me Marinette?” Marinette pulled in her closest, now one of her only friends, in for a hug, “Nothing Kay. Lila is the problem, remember one time when you said she was a- oh what was it? Magic? No, mythic?”
“Mythic bitch. Though honestly Heather Chandler is a step up from that-that” and it all came flooding out. Kay started to cry, something she hadn’t let herself do in a long time. Marinette knew full well why too, any Parisian had to hide their feelings. “I hate her so much Marinette and him too.” Marinette knew which him she was referring to, the one who made them slaves to their own emotions, Hawkmoth. “I know Kay. I do too. Maybe Ladybug will get it right one day.” Marinette felt a drop in her stomach. ‘If I can’t protect the ones I love from Lila how can I defeat Hawkmoth? Maybe...maybe Chat was right.’ Kay looked up, tears still welling in her eyes she wiped them away, Ladybug gave her hope. She was able to muster strength and a smile, Ladybug gave Paris hope, “Come on Marinette, she’s doing the best she can. Ladybug has saved Paris more times than I can count, she’s an amazing hero. One day Hawkmoth will be out of our lives for good, and it’ll be her doing.” Marinette sighed and felt warmth from her friend’s words, at least someone believed in her.
“Miss Kay,” said a proper voice startling the two girls out of their shared moment. “Alfred!!!” Kay grinned, “How are you! It’s been so long! What are you doing here?!” The man, Alfred let out a chuckle, “You’re rambling again Miss Kay, but to answer your questions: I am doing well, and while it has been long Master Bruce has sent me here to pick you and any of your friends up to take you to the tour.”
Kay’s eyes brightened, “Dope!!! This is Marinette,” she said motioning towards the bluenette who smiled and waved kindly. “I think we’re ready to go.” Alfred cocked his head a little, “There is no one else you wish to wait for?” Marinette and Kay shuffled their feet awkwardly, ‘don’t you have any other friends?’ Is what he meant. “Nah, it’s all good Alfred.”
Alfred gave a smirk, although he felt disappointed that Kay only had one friend, she was so sweet, he expected her to be the life of the party. “Oh- by the way,” Alfred started as Kay reached for the limo door handle, “We picked up a guest on the way. I think you’ll be happy to see her.” Kay have an awkward smile and a confused look to Alfred, she opened the door only to see her girlfriend.
“CHLOÉ!!!!!” Squealed Kay, throwing her into a tight embrace. “Yes, yes I missed you too Lené.” She returned the hug pecking her girlfriend on the cheek and seeing somebody she didn’t think she’d ever see again. “Dupain-Cheng!”
“Queenie?!” Marinette asked with a look of recognition, she almost didn’t recognize her friend, after all it had been a year and in that amount of time Chloé put her hair in two braids and had dyed them brown.
“You two know each other?” Asked a confused Kay, as she released her girlfriend to look at Marinette. “Yep. Dupain-Cheng was the only tolerable one in my old class.” Chloé gave her girlfriend a soft smile. Kay thrust Marinette into a hug, “You were the Girl Who Didn’t Believe Lila’s Bullshit! I should’ve known! Thank you for being there for my girlfriend!” Marinette blushed, “It’s not a problem. Chloé was there for me more times than I can count.”
Chloé rolled her eyes while giving a gentle smile, “That class is utterly ridiculous, you weren’t. Of course I was going to be there for you.” Kay wrapped both of them in a tight hug, Chloé still in her seatbelt, “Ahhh my two favorite girls in one place!” Chloé let out a chuckle and gave her girlfriend a pat on the shoulder. “Mmk Lené.”
“Wait Chlo, why are you calling her Lené?” Marinette asked. Kay reddened before burying her hands in her face. “Don’t you dare tell her!” Alfred let out a chuckle before driving off to Wayne Enterprises. “Miss Kay’s real name is Kaylené Khan. She’s embarrassed of it for some reason, a fact that Miss Chloé likes to tease her about.” Kay facepalmed, “Alfred!!!”
“You shouldn’t hide your name Lené. It’s beautiful.” Chloé said twisting her girlfriend’s dark brown hair. “I agree, though Kay is a pretty nickname.” Marinette said giving her friend a playful shove. “Yeah whatever. Let’s go meet your new boyfriend Damian!” Kay teased, “He’s going to be at Wayne Enterprises, isn’t he Alfred?” Alfred kept his eyes on the road while he responded, “Yes Miss Kay, but I have to say I don’t know what you’re talking about in regards to Miss Marinette and Master Damian.”
“Yeah Lené what am I missing?” Chloé demanded before looking out the side window of the limo.
“I’ve made the match of the century Chlo! Damian and Marientte would be the perfect couple!” Chloé scoffed, “No way you can get Ice Prince a girlfriend, though if it was anyone it would be Mari.” Kay smiled, feeling triumphant, “See Marinette it’s meant to be.” Marinette chuckled, “I haven’t even met the guy Kay!”
Kay started to swoon in her seat, “Oh my gosh, I’m going to witness love at first sight!”
Chapter 14 - Dance
That afternoon, Rae and Two-Bit walked Ponyboy home from school. When they got to the house, Tim and Curly Shepard were sitting on the front steps. Tim had a smile on his face and was making fun of his younger brother. The second he saw the trio approaching, he stopped and stood up.
"Uh, hey guys," Ponyboy said when they reached the steps. "You guys could’ve gone in, ya know." Tim shrugged and looked over at his brother, an expectant look on his face. Curly had his hands stuffed in his pockets, trying not to make eye contact with any of them, looking completely put-out and annoyed. Tim gripped his brother’s arm and hoisted him to his feet.
"Stop bein’ shy," Tim ordered and pushed Curly towards Rae. Curly shrugged out of his brother’s grip.
“Gimme a minute. Jesus.”
“Curly, shy?” Rae asked, an amused smile tugging at her lips. “You gotta be kiddin’ me.”
“I never shoulda told ‘im,” he mumbled as turned towards his girlfriend. “So, there’s this dance at your school this weekend...I guess it’s the homecomin’ dance or some shit...” Tim crossed his arms over his chest. “And I, uh-”
"Get to the point," Tim said, impatiently. “We have places to be.” Curly rolled his eyes, scowling. His ears were turning red.
"Well, I was, uh, wonderin' if you'd like to, uh..." He looked down at the ground and cleared his throat. “To go with me?” Rae’s face turned a bright red. Two-Bit, who was very obviously trying to make himself otherwise engaged, took one look at her face and burst into a fit of laughter. Ponyboy stood nearby, eyes wide, not even trying to hide his surprise and embarrassment for the situation. "This is stupid. If you don't wanna to go-" Curly went to turn back to his brother.
"No!," she interrupted, forcefully. He paused and faced her again. She tucked her hair behind an ear and noddded. “No, I wanna go.”
"Really?" She smiled and nodded.
“Why not?” He smiled as well, and then looked around at the rest of the guys watching them.
"Show’s over now, assholes." They all looked away in unison.
The night before the dance, Two-Bit dropped her off at the newly opened mall in town. Carrie met them at the entrance. This place made her nervous. It seemed a little on the rich side, if you asked her.
“Alright,” he said. “Meet me back here in an hour.” Rae nodded her understanding as her friend leaned into the open window.
“Hey, Two-Bit,” she said.
“Hey, kid,” he answered with a nod. Carrie looked at Rae.
“Ready? Got your money?”
“Yeah, let’s go,” Rae answered and opened the car door. They headed inside.
“Any specific color?” Carrie asked while they browsed clothing racks full of dresses. Rae had asked her to come- she always preferred to wear jeans over skirts, but Carrie wore dresses often.
“No idea,” she answered. “I ain’t good at all this-” Rae waved her arms, motioning in the direction of the rack. “-girly shit.” When she looked at her friend again, she noticed Carrie wasn’t paying attention. The other girl was staring right past her, a thoughtful look on her face. Rae turned to find out what she was looking at. She frowned.
“Don’t you think that’s a little...fancy for someone like me?” A sly smile crept over Carrie’s face, wide enough to show her teeth. For a second, Rae thought she was looking at the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
“No way. I think it’s perfect,” her friend said as she pushed past her to grab the dress. “And I know exactly how I’m gonna do your hair.”
On the night of the dance, Curly offered Rae his arm as they got out of the truck they borrowed from Tim. She felt incredibly uncomfortable in the dress that Carrie had chosen for her, but she had to admit- she looked pretty choice.
Carrie had draped her in a...what had she called it? A deep purple swing dress with a full skirt and a… a boat neck? It was pulled in tightly around her middle with a tied bow in the back and she wore black kitten heels on her feet. Half of her long hair had been swept up into a small beehive, the rest cascading down her neck and shoulders in soft curls. She had thick, black eyeliner drawn around her eyes, matched with purple and black shadow, her lips painted a dark plum.
Curly’s shirt matched the deep purple of her dress and he had his signature leather jacket on overtop with black dress slacks and his regular pair of black leather boots.
Darry, pulled into the spot next to them, smiled at the two and waited for Pony and Johnny to get out of the bed.
“Ya’ll behave,” he ordered, eyeing his little brother pretty hard. “And call if anything happens.” Usually, a dance wasn’t a greaser scene, but Darry insisted the other two go- just in case. Johnny and Ponyboy didn't have dates but they figured there might be a girl or two in the same situation. Two-Bit said he might show up too- probably with a beer in hand, but when was he not drinking? “I don’t wanna get a call from the school tellin’ me about some stupid prank ya pulled.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Pony mumbled under his breath.
"We’ll see ya later," Curly said. Darry nodded and drove off. They walked up to a lady seated at a desk right outside the gym.
"Tickets?" she asked. Her voice was polite, but she looked them all up and down, eyes fill of disdain. Curly frowned, but handed her all four tickets without saying anything. Once inside, they met Carrie and her date at a table they had claimed.
Her blonde friend wore a powder blue, off-shoulder swing dress with a sheer tulle overlay that glittered under the lights and belted in the front, her hair pinned back in a high, curly ponytail.
When they’d dropped off their jackets and things, Curly held out his hand, an unasked question in his eyes. Rae smiled, softly, and let him lead her onto the dance floor.
He pulled her close, his hold on her waist firm, but gentle. She rested her arms loosely around his shoulders.
“You look really…,” he started and cleared his throat. She looked down, her cheeks filling with color. “Really beautiful.”
“You keep talkin’ like that, you’re brother’s gonna have you committed,” she laughed.
“What, I ain’t allowed to compliment my own girlfriend?”
Before she could answer, Two-bit came up behind them and slapped Curly on the back, a big loony smile on his face and a can of beer wrapped in a brown paper bag in his hand. The impact caused Curly to pitch forward, stepping on Rae’s foot. She sucked in a breath at the pain. He righted them both and turned to glare at their friend.
“Sorry, R-”
“Would ya put that away?” Rae hissed, ignoring Curly’s apology. “You’re gonna get us kicked outta here. Shoulda seen the look we got comin’ in” Her friend rolled his eyes, but chugged his drink and wandered off to find a trash can. Once he was gone, she focused her attention back on Curly.
"Thanks for comin' tonight," she said as they swayed in each other’s arms.
"I think I’d do anythin’ for ya," he said, a small smile creeping to his lips. Rae felt her cheeks heat up a bit. When the first slow dance ended, Two-Bit was stalking back over to them.
“Pony and Johnny are sittin’ over there like sad lil’ puppies with no dates. Hard to watch,” he said, and looked at Rae. “Wanna dance with your ole pal, Two-Bit?” She looked at Curly, who stepped aside and let the other boy in. He went to meet up with Pony and Johnny, who were standing against the wall, sipping punch.
The next song started and Two-Bit took Rae's waist.
'You look real pretty tonight. Carrie pick the dress?" he asked. She huffed a laugh and nodded.
“She did the hair and makeup too.” She shrugged. “I don’t hate it. Should’a seen Curly’s face when he pulled up earlier. I thought his jaw was gonna fall off his skull. I’m gonna sleep over at her place soon and she’s gonna teach me. Maybe I’ll start wearin’ dresses more often.”
“Man, you’re such a liar.” She laughed again.
“You’re prob’ly right about that.” They swayed in silence for a few seconds. The dance floor was filling up with other couples.
“Have you thought anymore about what we talked about? About who attacked you?” Rae looked down and sighed.
"Yeah- I don’t remember seein’ her face," she started, thinking back now that her head wasn’t pounding. “But I think I know who the voice belongs to.”
“Curly’s here alright, but he’s asleep. Don’t know if ya heard, but he got into a fight with some Brumly brutes over one thing or another.” A soft laugh over the phone receiver. “He’ll prob’ly be out for the rest of the night but you can call back later and see-”
“Surprise, bitch.”
"That's good," Two-Bit said, with a sad smile. It faded slowly into a straight line. "When are ya gonna to tell him?”
"Soon. Maybe tonight." He nodded and left it alone. They danced the rest of the song in silence.
When their dance ended, they joined the other boys. They stood against the wall for a while, laughing and messing around, as they watched the Socs dance. Some of them stared back at the group, incredulously. Rae thought she saw Carrie and her dark-haired date dancing amongst the elite.
“You wanna go join ‘em?” Curly asked, getting close to her ear so she could hear him over the noise. He held out his hand. She smiled and took it. As he led her over, she grabbed onto Pony’s sleeve and dragged him with them. Johnny followed as well.
“Hey!” Carrie yelled over the music, her face lighting up at the sight of them. “Join us!” She separated from her partner and grabbed on to Rae’s arm. Soon, all of them were swaying in a circle.
Chrissy eventually barrelled in with a shining black shift dress, hair piled on top of her head and stiff with hairspray, complaining loudly about her date showing up drunk as hell and abandoning her to hang with the “boys” and get high. Rae laughed when she spied her trying to get close to Ponyboy. She leaned into Carrie and whispered. Her friend looked towards Chrissy and burst out laughing.
It was contagious and Rae found herself laughing, too, until she heard some commotion behind them.
“Come on, Bob.” Cherry’s sugar-laced voice filtered through the crowd. “Stop drinking and spend some time with me,” she begged.
Before she could even roll her eyes, a body collided with her and Carrie’s backs, forcing them forward. Rae fell, her knees knocking on the hard tile floor of the gym. She glanced to the side, where Bob had rolled after knocking her over, drunkenly giggling to himself, an expensive silver flask in his hand. Cherry let out a frustrated growl.
“Randy, help him up,” she sighed. Curly bent down to help her up. She let him lift her from the ground. At the same time, Randy was also helping his drunk friend off the floor, and he put his foot down on the skirt of her dress. As she stood up, Rae heard a ripping sound and froze.
“Oh, shit,” she heard Cherry whisper. Bob burst out laughing again. When Rae was finally on her feet, she checked out the hem of her skirt. Part of it was torn from the skirt, hanging to the ground. She ground her teeth, the rage roiling in her stomach. Cherry’s mouth opened in the form of an apology. Anger gurgled up her throat, hot and sour.
"Don't worry about it,” Rae bit out and shoved her way through the crowd toward the table her friends had left their jackets. Carrie was on her heels and Curly followed her.
“We can get my mom to fix it- she’s real good at sewin’,” her blonde friend offfered when they finally reached the table. “Are you okay?”
“Fine,” she snapped but stopped and took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment. “Sorry, Carrie. I think I just want to go home. Those assholes always have to ruin everything.”
“It’s alright,” Carrie said quietly, as Curly came forward to grab their stuff and follow her towards the exit.
Rae burst through the doors to the gym. The cold air hit her face and the heat inside her started to die down. She inhaled through her nose and a sigh escaped her mouth. Curly laid his leather jacket across her shoulders.
“You sure you want to go home already? It’s still early. We could go somewhere-” Rae shook her head. He put his hand on the small of her back and led her down the steps outside the building while digging in his pocket for the keys to his brother’s truck.
“Could we walk? ”
“Oh-yeah, sure.” They started heading towards the Curtis house. “What about Pony and Johnny?”
“They’re old enough to find their own way home,” she retorted. Curly lit up a smoke as they walked. Rae took a steadying breath. This was as good a time as any, she supposed. "Besides, I have something to tell you."
"What is it?"
"Remember when I got beat up?” she asked, motioning to the back of her head. “Knocked me clean out?”
"Yeah, course. Socs, right?" He lifted the cigarette to his mouth.
"No," she started. He looked down to her, pausing his drag.
"What? Then who?" She chewed on the inside of her mouth for a second before answering.
"I-I think it was Angela."
Session 19: Hunters and Haunts
It’s time for some proper horror movie monsters, y’all.
Before leaving Mornheim, we ask Aubrey about the scroll in her mother’s writing.  She’s baffled. “I mean, plenty of my ancestors dabbled in magic. The castle had plenty of secret rooms. But…my mom? As far as I knew, she was just a very talented gardener. That’s how my parents met! She was the castle gardener, he was the son of the lord, but she looked past that…”
She laughs nervously. “My mom wasn’t a druid. They don’t live in big fancy houses! They live in the woods and make friends with badgers! I mean, why would there even BE a druid in Mornheim?!”
“That’s a good question,” Gral admits. “Maybe to guard the old tomb in the Trollstones? If I understand correctly, it was a place blessed by one of the woods spirits they revere.”
“So you’re tellin’ me that MY MOM, Rosalind von Mornheim, was the secret mystical druidic guardian of a magic tomb that’s been on family property for, well, longer than it’s been our property?!”
“I mean, maybe? Skelbjor told us there always had to be a troll in Mornheim, maybe it’s like that?”
“I guess? Skelbjor’s been the local troll since Dad was a kid. He knew about all this?”
“Oh, nah, he just knew there’s always supposed to be a troll.”
“Yeah, that sounds about right, he’s a big galoot. Just tell me I don’t have to worry about this immortal troll demigod getting up and causing trouble. I have enough problems.”
“Don’t worry, he didn’t even get up for a direct summons from that dybbuk creep.”
Aubrey shudders. “If you ever wanna figure out a way to kill that guy for good, you have my help.”
Clem grimaces. “Believe me, I’d LOVE to.”
“Anyway. You folks cleaned up the water, stopped my people getting so sick, heck, maybe this’ll even slow down the undead situation. I owe you a lot of thanks. As the ruling lady of Mornheim, I can offer you…a bottle of hard cider or somethin’? I don’t have a lot. It takes all the money we have just to keep this place running. I’m sorry I can’t do more to reward you.”
Valeria smiles, the picture of a chivalrous knight. “I’m just glad to know there won’t be so much sickness. Hopefully things will improve for your people.”
“Thank you, I mean it. And, uh, sorry for glassing you in the face, Shoshana.”
The sorceress shrugs. “It’s water under the trollbridge. We all have family members who we would both hug and cry, and glass in the face. It’s chill.”
To everyone’s surprise, Valeria nods in commiseration.
“You’re welcome to stay if you want – I mean, things are crowded, the food sucks, and every night we get undead and penitents waking everybody up, so I understand if you don’t want to stick around. Can I treat you to breakfast?”
We get breakfast, though the offerings are meager. Mercedes is cooking, and Aubrey scowls at her. “I’m mad at Mercedes because she’s a morning person. Also she lit me on fire yesterday.”
Shoshana nods. “Okay, I understand lighting people on fire, but being a morning person is a capital offense. I know this, because I live with THIS ONE.” She points at Valeria, who shrugs in acknowledgment.
“As ruling lady of house of Mornheim, I hereby banish 8am from my lands,” Aubrey grumbles. “My house is now renamed Midafternoonsheim. Like, 2pmheim. Especially if I spent the last day and a half chasing some regenerating superghoul through the tunnels.”
Mercedes and Aubrey tell us about taking out the superghoul they fought last night, bickering the whole time. “Okay, you don’t speak Goblin, but if I shout words in Goblin it only ever means one thing. I don’t cast buff spells. It means there is about to be fire, get out of the way.”
“If you ever find a cloak of fire resistance, I could use it,” Aubrey deadpans at us. “I might smother her with it.”
Gral chats with Mercedes – apparently she’s a skilled chef as well as a mage! “Yes, it is part of pyromancer training. To learn to respect the gifts of Brother-in-Flame, all students must take up a fire-related trade. Pottery, blacksmithing, cooking. That way if you wash out of pyromancer school, you have a trade! And you have respect for flame and know how to commune with it. Working with non-magical fire gives a natural guidance toward using Brother-in-Flame’s gifts. I will say, cooking contests at pyromancer school can get rather intense. If you burn the food, you have to burn your jacket.”
“Would you say they get…heated?” Shoshana quips, shooting finger-guns. Mercedes ignores her.
Gral considers. “Did you ever meet an orc who went by Firesong?”
“Oh yeah! Orc bard, wore a mask?”
“Uh, all orc bards wear masks.”
“Yeah, she’s why we can’t have the chili cookoffs anymore. She had to leave the Republics under, uh…circumstances.”
“She told me she has fond memories of her time there.”
“Oh, so do I! Passions were already high, and a professional orcish bard providing background music did not lower the emotional intensity. And, well, we’re pyromancers. We thought we were far enough from the swamp gas wells! If it hadn’t been for that damn bird – oh, one second.” She cuts off what was promising to be an excellent story to open the window and hand a sizable plate of eggs outside to Skulbjor.
“The first time I saw him, I jumped out of my skin,” she confides. “Have you ever met a swamp troll? They’re the reason we’re so good at fire.”
“The pyromancer school was originally founded to defend the Republics against trolls. So it was, you know, a liiiiittle bit awkward. Horrible creatures, swamp trolls. YOU’RE GREAT, SKULBJOR,” she calls out the window. “But I did almost light him on fire, until Aubrey stopped me.”
Gral murmurs an aside to Clem. “Is it just Valdian trolls who are weird, then?”
“I dunno, maybe bridges calm them down?”
After breakfast, we prepare to get on the road. Valeria resummons Aethis, and Skulbjor gives our good chomper some quality scritches. Already, the waters flowing into the town appear clearer, less foreboding somehow. Everything else is still, honestly, super Tim Burton-y, but we’ll work on that.
We head out, traveling the now familiar path to Three Oaks Junction. We’re glad to see the bloody chain banners have been taken down. The locals have even made new banners, featuring a shield with a chunk taken out of it, symbolizing they’re under the protection of Duke Shieldeater!
Business has resumed as normal. Some of the outriders are guarding the gate to provide a more visible presence. Not a lot, but they stand out. It’s more of a visual reminder that more orcs are coming and town has agreed to be under protection.
Gral’s pretty psyched his diplomatic master plan is working. Meanwhile, we’ve got trading to do. We manage to sell our old Aquilian coins to Pierre the furrier, who says they’ll be popular in the Demish court. Valeria keeps one of the coins as a collectible.
We’ve got enough stuff to carry and traveling to do that we decide to buy a cart. Clem, familiar with travel from her drow caravan days, heads over to the Used Cart Lot out behind the cart repair, where a guy named Sal shows her around. Looks like these guys do good repair work, with a line of apprentices and masters dating back to Three Oaks himself. Maaaaybe they might get a lot of business from selling carts which will shortly need to be repaired, but Clem uses her know-how and also her impressive guns to intimidate the guy into showing her the good stuff instead of the junkers.
She picks up a nice solid dark oak cart, secondhand, repaired recently. Clem checks it over and it seems pretty sturdy; seems like scavengers found it at an abandoned farmhouse. We also pool funds to buy two draft horses, a shaggy pair that came as a team package. The chestnut one is named Pierogi, and the bay one is named Chestnut. Shoshana attempts to have a Horse Girl Movie moment, but rolls a nat 1 and gets ignored.
Valeria, of course, buys a map to Hoska.
Clem checks her mail – she’s received a form letter thank you from the embassy in Schotzengrad – and sends 200 gold back home to her caravan, along with an update letter. Valeria writes a letter reporting back to Order of the Rose.
Clem gets busy decorating the cart in drow fashion to make it look presentable. She makes a start; a proper drow cart is decorated and redecorated over years and years. She encourages the rest of us to add our own designs, because in drow culture it’s important to have everyone in the caravan participate. We’re not at all familiar with the symbolic language used in drow art, but we’ll give it a try during a few long rests on the road.
Now we have a cart and horses and money and we bought some potions! We roll a mediocre enough survival check to meet the DC, so we head to Hoeska without issue.
Clem’s heard about Hoeska, which stands high in the collective memory of the czar’s military. During the Kevan occupation, it was said that castle was haunted. It was built 400 years ago by Gottfried von Hoesk, a Valdian warlord who wanted to become the first king of a unified Greatwood. He failed, but his descendants have occasionally tried again, and this is their ancestral seat of power. The elves, knowing its significance, took it as one of their first targets and stationed a garrison of 500 elves there. When the Valdian rebellion kicked into high gear, one of the big things that convinced the elves to leave was that the entire garrison vanished without a trace.
Shoshana, well, she’s heard plenty of stories about Hoeska. Every time a Valdian ghost story needs a mad wizard, or a ghost, or a vampire, or generally anything that lives in a big spooky castle, it takes place in Hoeska. Most of those stories are tall tales and urban legends, but on the other hand, there’s been an awfully long history of vampires and ghosts and mad wizards in Valdia, many of whom originated from or occupied the towering, dark castle on its isolated mountain.
Merchants who have been there say it’s a sprawling fortress; every inhabitant since Gottfried von Hoesk, from his descendants to various nobles to the elves, has added something else to castle, so it’s a big mismatch of styles. Some parts are a grim fortress, some are a luxury palace. The castle’s changed hands, but the von Hoesk family is still around and more often than not they ride in and reclaim their ancestral home. A couple of mad wizards were von Hoesks; when something truly evil goes down, usually a bunch of knights ride in and clear it out and some other von Hoesk descendant moves in. Rinse and repeat.
When the Cursebreakers were founded, their first move was to clear out Hoeska and take it over as their headquarters. It’s the Usual Suspect of spooky stuff in Valdia, but if the Cursebreakers found anything relating to the Curse there, they didn’t tell anyone.
Shoshana tells some ghost stories about it. Valeria eats them up. There’s a long Valdian tradition of “having a cousin” who worked at Hoeska as a servant and totally saw something spooky.
With the cart it takes like a day and a half to get from Three Oaks to the edge of Hoeska territory. As we approach, we see a guard house sitting on the road. Gral can see from a distance that the squat stone building appears to be abandoned. That’s not normal. We consider: should we avoid it because it probably has monsters in it, or should we go clear out the monsters and see if there’s loot? We’re gonna go see if there’s loot.
We get out of the wagon and approach, weapons drawn. The small stone building, just big enough for a couple of guards to keep an eye on the road, looks like it was abandoned in a hurry. We case the place quickly; there’s dried blood on the ground in the back storeroom. Maybe someone was killed here, or injured and brought here to get patched up? There’s not a body or anything. Gral’s keen eyes pick up a recent set of footprints; someone came in, after the guards had left, did something here, and then headed out into the woods.
The woods? In the Cursewood? Near the haunted castle? DEFINITELY full of dangerous monsters. But we’re PCs, so we want go investigate the mystery. Aethis stays behind to guard the cart, mildly weirding out the horses.
We follow the tracks into woods. Clem hears something behind her, and as she turns, a furry something whips out of brush and spears her for minor damage. She looks down and sees a scorpion stinger emerging from her torso. She barely has time to register it’s glistening with poison when she’s accosted by massive slavering jaws. This thing looks like it was once a huge wolf, but now has mutated into something far worse, and its teeth are buried deep in Clem’s armor.
Clem goes pale under her ash-dark skin, and must save against the panic and flood of memories brought up by the sudden sight of an attacking wolf.
How in the HELL did that thing get so close without us noticing?! Hell, we were following humanoid tracks – where did this monstrosity come from?!
Valeria immediately smites the hell out of it, and it does enough extra damage we suspect it’s some kind of fiend. Unfortunately, it’s immune to being Frightened, so Gral’s plan to Dissonant Whispers it past two tanks fizzles.
The wolfbeast uses the same tactic on Valeria as it did on Clem – as Valeria’s distracted by deflecting the stinger, it strikes in with its massive jaws, for a huge amount of damage.
Dammit, it’s resistant to Shoshana’s lightning, too. We’re in trouble.
As we’re barely fending this thing off, we can hear snarling and barking coming toward us from another direction. It sounds like wolves or dogs, smaller than this thing tearing through us. And Gral can faintly hear booted humanoid footsteps hurrying alongside them.
Clem misses on her first panicked swing but catches it on the upswing, Great Weapon Master letting her drive the blade deep. Valeria slices it good too, vines tearing through its corrupted flesh. Gral tries to Phantasmal force and fails) It swings its poisonous tail, and Valeria goes down, unconscious. Then it chomps on Clem. Clem is down – except, hold on, not so fast. She uses Last Gasp to use her Second Wind as she falls, in accordance with the Deal she has made with the Pale King.
Panicking, Shosha deals it thunder damage which it does not resist. BIG BOOM THO. That was dumb of me.
Shoshana, panicking, hits the thing with thunder damage. It doesn’t have resistance, but now everything in the forest knows we’re here. As Valeria passes her first Death Save, Gral shouts a Healing Word to keep her alive.
Three large hounds burst from the trees snarling and howling. A voice in Elven shouts “Alexei! Kill! Go for legs!”
Gral can’t understand Elven, so he goes for the neck with his sickle and draws a nasty gash across its throat. The thing glances around, snarling, furious at being deprived its meal, but it recognizes it’s in danger and withdraws, sprinting away into the forest.
A large wood elf wearing a tattered Cursebreaker coat steps out of woods holding a club and a heavy blunderbuss. He whistles sharply, and the hounds abruptly stop their pursuit. “No further!” He gestures, and the hounds spread out and form a perimeter.
“I do not know you,” he says in Valdian, though with a thick elven accent. “You fought the Shusva.”
“…The what?”
“That thing, the Shusva. At least, I found name in book. Seemed similar to this, yes? I am Ser Boris, of Cursebreaker Knights. What brings you here? Is dangerous territory.”
“Kyr Valeria Argent, at your service! We’ve been working with Ser Quentin Morozov.”
A grin breaks across his thickly bearded face. “Ah, Ser Morozov! I know him. The grumpy one! He talks to people, finds what is in hearts and minds. Goes to towns, finds cultists. As he is to the people, I am to the beasts.”
“Yes, we had information for him and needed to make a report. Also we were trying to meet up with another person headed this way?”
He grimaces. “How recently? This Shusva has been stalking roads.”
“Um, recent?” Shoshana interjects. “But he’s accompanied by two fuckhuge goliaths, so…?”
“Oh, yes, him. He is fine. Oh! You injured it!” Ser Boris cries, distracted. He pulls out a small waxed pouch and grabs a chunk of flesh off Clem’s blade. “Good! With this, we can track its scent! Not today, though, you are wounded. Must get you two to castle.”
“These are Alexei, Sasha, and Xander,” he introduces his hounds, which have heeled obediently.
“You are – ah! A drow!” He greets Clem in Elven. “You are very far from home!”
“Ah, home is where you make it,” she replies in kind.
He laughs. “Indeed, indeed. Come, we must share stories back at castle! I move here during war, think it would be peaceful.”
“Yeah, bit of a mistake, huh?”
“I do well enough. I have my dogs, I receive employment. And coat! Employment with coat is better than employment without coat, da?”
We go back to our cart, and Ser Boris is immediately taken with Aethis. “Oh, my! A wonderful beastie. Is it Celestial? May I see teeth?”
Valeria’s happy to make introductions.
“Have you cared for such a creature before? They are adapted for warm streams, not cold woods like these, you know.”
“Do they need any further care than occasional spellwork? That’s all they told us at the academy,” Valeria says, puzzled.
“Is gift from Rack, no? Then double important you take good care! It does not need it, but you must. Caring for exotic mount in inhospitable climate is difficult task. I will give you literature. You would not believe poor beasts Dr. Galvan had, I am giving him dietary instructions, seeing if I can create sweater for them to keep warm…”
He goes back to cooing over Aethis. “Nice luster on scales, though that is expected. Feets---oh, you’ve been running on hard road, you’ll get used to that. Very well. Castle is this way!”
He whistles, and the three hounds form a triangle around group. “Do not wander too far off, they may try to herd you.”
It’s somewhere around here that the pun finally hits the players. Ser Boris. Three dogs. …Cerberus.
The path winds up to the dramatic gates of castle Hoeska.
“Now if you look there, you will see castle.” A lightning bolt cracks dramatically across the sky, casting the castle in ominous silhouette.
“It always does that. It is very stormy around here. I do not know why. Impossible to get good sunlight. I worry for Alexei, he likes to frolic in sun, in fields of flowers. I am not allowed to let him in garden. How will Alexei frolic without field of flowers?”
There’s a Cursebreaker Knight at the gates, some kind of battlemage with a big staff. Next to him is a grim figure in full plate, holding a halberd and looking distinctly displeased to see us.
“Do not mind them, the castle guards do not appreciate us being here,” Ser Boris tells us cheerfully. “It is okay, we have permission. They do not like that we do their job better than them. Hello friend!” He waves. “These are guests, please open gate!”
The guard glares.
“Pretty please, open gate for Ser Boris and friends? And Alexei and Sacha! Oh, have you met Xander yet?”
The guard silently opens the gate, his withering scowl not diminishing a bit.
“I do not know what problem is. Must have woke up on wrong side of bed,” Boris chatters as we enter. “Maybe should not leave lunch where dogs can get it. Guard knows I am here with dogs! Maybe dogs have done nothing wrong ever in their life and guard should apologize for making such a fuss!”
We’re past the castle walls, in a large courtyard before entering the keep proper. As we pass our carts and horses off to some stablehands, we notice a familiar cart and two draft gatorbeasts in the stables, with quilted blankets thrown over them against the chill.
Parked incongruously among the carts is a looming metal construct in a hulking, vaguely humanoid shape, with buzz-saw arms protruding from the front and a machined metal owl mask affixed to what might charitably be called the face area. Peeling paint on the front reads “Valdian Tree Company,” and it’s chained to a heavy wagon proudly bearing the insignia of the Sturmhearst University College of Engineering.
Ser Boris shrugs. “Many visitors are here now. One shows up with that thing. I do not like. Not natural, so much metal moving on own.”
We step into the grand hallway of castle, past another set of guards and a big statue of a fine-featured man in armor, labeled Gottfried von Hoesk. Ah, Ingborg and Bjorn are there, drinking.
We hear someone clear his throat imperiously, and turn to see Ser Quentin, regarding us with annoyance. “You’re late,” he bites out pointedly.
“Uh, did we make an appointment to see you? Because I was certainly not informed,” Shoshana snarks back.
He doesn’t take the bait. “So. The Pale King.”
“…Yup!”
“That letter and those words are why we’ve been stuck here. You’ve been escalated to the higher ups, who would very much like to hear what you have to report in person. Follow me. The dogs can stay here.”
Ser Boris grumbles. “Is fine, they do not bite! Well, they might bite sandvich. I could go for sandvich. I get us all sandviches, yes?”
We head up grand winding stairs, into the more palatial section of castle, and find ourselves passing through long dark galleries full of portraits of von Hoesk ancestors. The eyes follow us as we walk by, natch.
The path we take is DEFINITELY a little bit Scooby Dooby Doors. Ser Quentin Definitely Does Not Get Lost on the way there, what are you talking about? “This place was built by a succession of mad architects in an intergenerational argument with each other, of course it’s a damn maze,” he huffs.
Eventually, we are taken into a small, elegant drawing room. Two figures sit in comfortable armchairs in front of a roaring fire.
“Allow me to present Ser Brigid Konig,” Ser Quentin states formally, gesturing to the old woman calmly knitting in the chair on the left.
The other chair holds a tall man with sharp cheekbones, a fine black and red outfit, and rather similar features to the statue in the foyer. “Our host, Ludwig von Hoesk,” Quentin introduces stiffly.
“Hello,” the old woman, Ser Brigid, greets us warmly. “Our dear Quentin has told me so very little about you. Quentin, did you offer them anything to eat? It would be quite rude to let our guests go hungry.”
“I am told Ser Boris has arranged for sandwiches,”
“Perfect. Sit down, everyone, pull up a chair.”
Gral unnatch 20s a perception. That Ludwig von Hoesk – maybe Gral’s gotten better at picking up on this sort of thing since we’ve spent so much time in in Mornheim, but there’s something odd about that fella. He’s a little too still when he sits still, his motion a little too deliberate. And his skin is awfully pale. The old lady? Her, he can’t get a read on, even with a 20. Daaaaang.
“If you would, please, tell us of your travels. Ser Morozov tells us you first worked together in Ovruch; why don’t you start there?” Ser Brigid asks.
We take turns describing the entities we’ve seen, how we’ve fought them, and how they seem to categorize themselves. We produce the Eyegis as evidence of the Key, and explain what the Astronomer told us regarding the concept of Prisoners.
Ludwig, though very reserved, seems keenly interested in Clem’s tale of Mornheim. Once we’ve told our tale, he asks us to produce the tapestry we took from the cultists in the manor. He examines the partially-woven image carefully, tracing a thin finger over the crowned, skeletal figure.
“Well, Luddy, does it look familiar?” Ser Brigid asks smugly.
The aristocrat is too dignified to roll his eyes, but just barely. “It does. If we’re just going to-“
“Oh, we’d have to clue them in sooner or later. They’ve done more in a few weeks than half my agents have done in years!”
Ser Quentin grumbles audibly. She ignores him.
“Ludwig, is that the symbol you described to me?”
“Yes.”
“And the name?”
“Yes.”
“Do you consider that independent verification of what I told you?”
“Yes.”
“So I think you owe me something, old friend.”
He lets out a huffy, aristocratic sigh. “Yes, fine. You weren’t lying, and I was right not to kill you. I apologize for doubting you.”
“Thank you. Oh, the sandwiches are here!”
He turns his attention back to the tapestry. “Yes, this is the thing that appeared to me and offered me a position at the head of its armies.”
…oh?!?!
He rolls his eyes at our alarm. “I refused, naturally,” he sniffs.
“I should hope so!” Valeria says, and removes her hand from her sword hilt.
“I have no interest in submitting myself to some power-hungry usurper.”
Ser Brigid winks at us. “Perhaps I should re-introduce us properly. My name is Ser Brigid Konig. I was on my way to Valdshart when the city went dark, to formally retire as the Duke’s chief vampire hunter.”
“And this is Ludwig von Hoesk. His son built this castle! For the past couple hundred years, my office has been dedicated solely to hunting and killing him. Greetings!”
She rolls her eyes at her companion, who looks a bit miffed. “Really. They would have figured it out eventually. And you are not subtle about it. With the spooky castle? And the red and black outfit? C’mon, Luddy.”
“A few years ago, shortly after the curse manifested, I had a dream. This in itself is quite unusual; I do not normally experience dreams. In it, a creature resembling the figure on your tapestry appeared to me, offering a position as general of its armies. As its power grew, it would gain control of all undead in Valdia, and it would like myself and my followers to be the first and most honored of its forces. Naturally I refused. There is only one king in Valdia, and it is not some strange skeletal specter.”
“Wait, we have a king?” Shoshana blurts. “…oh. You mean yourself, don’t you.”
“Yes. It was my son’s idea. And what can I say, I spoiled the boy. Now, I was wondering what to do about this vision when who shows up but a bunch of angry knights with crossbows? Not that we’re not used to such incursions.”
“Oh, I’ve been trying to storm this place for years,” Ser Brigid agrees airily. “Every time we try, a mysterious new von Hoesk heir shows up with money and a whole court of followers! People buy it every time. Wishful thinking, I suppose.”
“She accused me of being behind the Curse,” Ludwig explains dryly. “I argued otherwise, and eventually we came to an agreement. Which is why Brigid Konig, my worst nightmare, HAS BEEN LIVING IN MY HOUSE.”
“Yes!” she agrees, with a beatific granny smile. “This way, if you ARE behind it, I can kill you!” She lifts the blanket she’s knitting just enough to give us a peek at the crossbow hidden underneath. Gral sees runes on the crossbow similar to his heartseeker bolts. “The rules are simple! I get to use his house and money, and his people assist as we try to get to bottom of this thing! And in exchange, I don’t kill him!”
Ludwig sighs. “She removes the monsters. I don’t appreciate monsters in my land, and I genuinely will do anything in my not inconsiderable power to drive out these ruinous Prisoners. Even if it means entertaining a woman who’s been a thorn in my side for the last sixty years.”
“Not a thorn, arrows!” she retorts cheerfully. “And a scythe one time. You got better, you big baby!”
“Of course I got better, I’m a vampire.”
Quentin sighs. “Needless to say, all information disclosed in this room is top secret. Frankly, if it were up to me, I wouldn’t have chosen to divulge even this much.”
Ser Brigid turns her level gaze on him. “Please. The orc would have spotted something and said ‘My goodness, Kyr Argent, I suspect something is up with that handsome and brooding fellow,’ and then she would have Detected Undead, and killed several guards, and the castle would be on fire, and we’d be in the dungeons having this conversation, but it would be far more awkward!” She turns to us. “Have I read the situation right?”
“…yup,” admits Valeria.
“See? Now Quentin, dear, eat your sandwich, you’re far too skinny.”
Ludwig is not eating a sandwich. He has a glass of red wine, of course.
They grill us a bit about the Key, specifically, and the Sturmhearst scholars we met who seem rather susceptible to the whole knowledge-seeking lure.
“Hmm, yes. We have several guests here, two of whom are professors. Professor Galvan, whom you’ve met, and a visitor from Sturmhearst. Professor Bjork, from the College of Engineering. I have some suspicions about things going on there. He’s told us a few concerning stories; you might want to pick his brain and get your take on the situation.”
“Such an august institution,” Ludwig agrees. “I gave some of the money to start the place, I’d hate to see it go bad.”
We wonder if he knows Dr. Wendell. But it’s getting late, and while the party discusses their experiences in great detail, we’re going to cut session and pick back up once they’re ready to go meet some other guests of the von Hoesks.
Broken Hearts and New Beginnings
Chapter 6
this one didn’t get a cool title.
anyways, enjoy.
Marinette looked at Chloé and Sabrina, they were going to go take selfies in Gotham’s Botanical Gardens and they had decided to wear cute outfits that looked good together. She let a small smile spread across her face before she stuck her tongue out at her friends.
Chloé had her hair in a half-up half-down style with the half that was up pulled back in a fishtail braid. She wore a pastel yellow sundress with gray faux leather ankle boots. She had a quilted crossbody purse in champagne with a gold tone chain strap resting against her left hip.
Sabrina, on the other hand, had her hair pulled back into a low bun with a braid pinned to the underside of the bun. She wore a purple spaghetti strap tank tucked into a pair of gray shorts over black sheer tights. She had a mini sling backpack in the pattern Belle Paisley. She wore knee-high fashion boots in cognac with straps over her ankles which ended in brass buckles.
Marinette’s hair, cropped close to her head in the back and around the sides, was spiked up at the back and hung messily over her forehead. She wore a red tank crop top over a pair of black distressed jeans with a pair of black combat boots. She had a black wristlet to go with the outfit, the strap had a few pins on it, one was Littlefoot hatching out of his egg while another was a Cathulu boba tea pin.
“Let’s go take pictures.” Marinette threw a throw pillow at her friends before pulling out her phone to text Adrien and Nino.
Marinette let Chloé drag her out of the room, the duo followed closely by Sabrina, rode the elevator down to the lobby, where they met up with Adrien and Nino. The group of five left the hotel and walked to the botanical garden. They stuck together, knowing that they looked like easy targets to the hardened Gothamite thieves who’ve never seen them kick Akuma ass.
Marinette surveyed the plants in the garden, not paying attention when several more bodies joined her four friends. She turned to ask her friends their opinions, a smile on her face, until she saw they had gained people to their group. The smile died on her face, her eyes hardening. “Hello.”
Jason waved, taking in the way Marinette’s hair seemed to shine in the sunlight.
Roy and Adrien were wrapped around each other, red-orange spun with neon green above their heads. Stephanie spoke with Nino, light eggplant and illuminating emerald tucked in Nino’s hair. Chloé and Sabrina cheerfully spoke with Tim and Kon.
Jason was lost in thought, the image of a smile on Marinette’s face stuck in his thoughts. He hated that he was the reason she didn’t smile like that around many people, he hated that he caused the light to go out in her eyes.
Marinette simply frowned before clearing her throat. “Chlo, Nino, Brina, Adri?” She called to get her friends’ attention.
Chloé and Sabrina turned from their conversation with Tim and Kon, their attention going to their friend almost instantly. Nino turned to look at his childhood friend, his eyes taking in the way she seemed to be shrinking into herself. Adrien was the last to turn away from his conversation, not understanding why Marinette sounded the way she did.
“What’s up Bug?” Adrien asked while his eyes flicked between his friends and Roy, he wasn’t paying attention to his friends so he didn’t see Chloé glare at him or Nino looking at him pleadingly to shut up. “I’m a little preoccupied.”
Roy, however, did see the glares sent by Chloé and Nino’s pleading looks and so wisely decided to move away from his soulmate.
Marinette simply turned away from him, setting her gaze on Jason instead. “Since Adrien is too busy talking to help Chloé, Sabrina and I take good pictures, you get to help.”
---
Jason looked at the photos he saved to his gallery, the girls looked really good and he was starstruck by how well they looked together. The three girls seemed to balance each other but also still looked distinct enough to know who was who. His eyes couldn’t help but keep drifting back to Marinette and he couldn’t help but think about how she’d look with his jacket in addition to the outfit he’d spent nearly an hour taking pictures of her in. Jason was so lost in thought he hadn’t noticed someone standing behind him.
“Whatcha lookin’ at there Jaybird? Is that that pretty French girl you’ve been sighing about lately?” Dick’s voice sounded from beside Jason’s face.
Jason, reflexively, brought his other hand up into Dick’s nose. He frowned before turning to look at his stupid older brother. “What have I told you about sneaking up on me Dick?” Jason all but hissed through his teeth. The second Robin had always been more likely to strike first and ask questions later, so the look of shock on the first Robin’s face was unwarranted. “You know better.”
“That was uncalled for Little Wing.” Dick’s words were slurred due to the fact that he was pinching the bridge of his nose. “Why’d you have to hit my nose?”
Jason just rolled his eyes and stood up, walking out of the room without answering Dick’s question. He sequestered himself away in the kitchen with Alfred, who was making tea.
“Is everything okay Master Jason?” Alfred asked as he handed him a cup of tea.
“I found my soulmate Alfred. I found my soulmate and she’s going back to France at the end of her class trip.” Jason frowned before showing Alfred one of the pictures of Marinette. “Her name is-”
“Marinette Dupain-Cheng, daughter of Tom Dupain and Sabine Cheng, granddaughter of Roland and Gina Dupain.” Alfred smiled and took a sip of his tea. “I served with her grandfather, her father is actually my godson.”
Jason stared at the man who for all intents and purposes was his grandfather. “Wait, really?”
Alfred smiled, a small and sad smile full of nostalgia. “Yes. Roland was a good soldier and is an even better man, if a little stubborn and set in his ways.”
Not in A Million Years-Dallas Winston Imagine
Requested: No
Warnings: fluff
Tumblr media
  It was half past noon when Dallas Winston strolled into Dairy Queen. A cigarette was poised between his smirking lips as he strolled towards the cashier desk. With each step he took, my body filled with more dread. However, I should have grown accustomed to this routine since Dallas made a habit of stopping by Dairy Queen every day at twelve thirty for the past couple of weeks. His regular visits had quickly become the worst part of my summer job. He always had a lit cigarette in his mouth and stupid cocky grin on his face, both were things that I wanted to smack off of his face. Unfortunately, Y/B/F/N had grown to love these visits and was especially engaging with him every time.
   “Oh come on, Y/N, he is such a dreamboat!” she exclaimed once after Dallas had left.
   “Yeah, and he’s also spent a little too much time in the cooler for me,” I muttered.
    How was a good looking face supposed to make me forget about the fact that he was a criminal? It amazed me how people like the Curtis brothers could be such good friends with them. I used to talk to Soda a lot but after we both got jobs, we stopped hanging around as much. I never got the chance to ask him about why he was friends with Dallas or why Dallas enjoyed bothering me every chance he got.
    Therefore, my mood immediately fell when Dallas walked into Dairy Queen and sauntered up to me with that stupid grin on his face. A couple of greaser girls and Soc girls who were hanging out on opposite sides of the restaurant looked like they could have fainted when they saw him.
     “Welcome to Dairy Queen, how may I help you today?” I said through gritted teeth.
    “Aw, Y/N, turn that frown upside down. I know you’re happy to see me.”
     I gritted my teeth down even harder.
     “Hey, Dallas, what’s buzzin, cousin?” Y/B/F/N asked as she stepped forward from the kitchen.
    “Not much, Y/B/F/N. Just gettin’ my usual.”
    “Sure, we’ll have it right up!” Y/B/F/N clapped my shoulder as if to say “Talk to him!”
    I ignored the signal as I rang him up for a cheeseburger, fries, and a strawberry milkshake. “Two fifty.”
    Dallas handed me the exact change and leaned on the counter as I put the money into the register. “Come on, Dolly, we’ve been doin’ this dance all summer, why don’t you let me take you out?”
    “Because you’re not my type, Dallas.”
    “Really? Cause I’ve caught you starin’ at me several times.”
    “I was glaring, Dallas.”
    The truth was that as much as I didn’t like Dallas, I did come to appreciate his good looks from time to time. However, I didn’t want him to know that----it was too much fun to dislike him.
    “Sure you were.”
    I rolled my eyes. “Y/B/F/N will have your order up soon.”
    “Fine.” Dallas took a long drag from his cigarette. “But I know why you won’t go out with me.”
   “I know you do because I’ve told you why several times.”
   Dallas shook his head. “No, besides all that, you’re afraid that if you go out with me, you’ll see that I’m not a bad guy after all and maybe see a new side to yourself too.”
    “Get bent, Dallas.”
    “Oooh, still got a mouth on ya.”
    His grin made my stomach flip and I could’ve scowled at myself. How was it that someone I loathed with every fiber of my being had an affect on me? But, I wasn’t easy like any of the girls Dallas went out with. I took school seriously and planned on going to college after high school. Even though I did live near the Curtis’, my parents were well-to-do people and would have a cow if they knew I had even spoken to Dallas Winston.
    Once his food was ready, I handed him the bag and told him to have a good day, like I do with every customer.
    “It gets even better every time I see you.”
    He sealed his statement with a grin and sauntered out of the restaurant confidently, a couple of girls staggering after him. I rolled my eyes at how ridiculous they were.
   “Bunch of airheads,” I muttered.
   “You know you like the attention,” Y/B/F/N teased.
   “I really don’t, I wish he’d stop coming around.”
   “If you keep this act up he just might and you’d ruin everything for the both of us. You know that I get a kick out of that guy.”
   “How can you? He’s so hard and scary.”
   “That’s only one side of him, have you seen him with Johnny? Practically an angel,” Y/B/F/N said.
   “Still, there is someone for everyone and I am not the one for Dallas and he isn’t the one for me.” I glanced at the front and saw Kelsey, a buxom platinum blonde greaser girl, talking to Dallas as she tried to subtly shove her chest in his face. “Obviously.”
   Of course, my body had to betray me as I felt the familiar twinge of jealousy burn in my chest. I shouldn’t care about the girls Dallas Winston hangs out with, but I did to a small degree. I wasn’t anything like them so why did he insist on irritating me so much?
   The question plagued my mind for the rest of the day until it was time to close. I had just finished up sweeping the main dining area when Y/B/F/N came from the bathroom with her bucket and mop in tow.
   “I officially can’t stand men! Isaac shouldn’t make us clean up like this every night.”
   “Yeah, but the pay’s decent,” I said.
   “It’s the only thing that gets me through these long summer days, missing all the new flicks in Marlon Brando,” Y/B/F/N said with a dreamy sigh that made me laugh.
    “By the end of summer, you’ll be able to fly out to meet him if you want.”
     “Even better, he’ll fall in love with me and we’ll get married and have beautiful, talented children.”
    I shook my head at my friend and we put up the cleaning supplies. After I put the day’s earnings in the safe in Isaac’s office, I locked the door and took off the apron we had to wear during open hours and hung it up in the kitchen.
   “Are you all right if I leave now?” Y/B/F/N asked.
   “Yeah, sure, you almost locked yourself in here once and wouldn’t want to risk that again.”
   “Don’t remind me about it. See ya tomorrow.”
   “See ya!”
   Y/B/F/N sauntered out and I took my time grabbing my things and making sure everything was in order before I turned off the lights and locked the door. I put the keys to the Dairy Queen in my pocket and started heading in the direction of my house.
   “Hey, baby!” My body froze as soon as I recognized the voice: Kevin Richards, a Soc friend of Tim’s.
   I usually only had to worry about him during the day if I had the day off and walked around town with Y/B/F/N. He was rarely at Dairy Queen if I was working for some strange reason. I glanced in his direction and saw that he was smoking with two other tall, large Socs. They all wore pastel light jackets and pristine blue jeans. They looked like all-American boys were certainly far from it.
   Kevin grinned at me and started walking towards me. “How’ve ya been?”
  “Fine, thanks,” I said, backing away.
  “C’mon, don’t be scared, baby. I just wanted to know if you wanted to see a flick with me or hang out with me and my friends.”
  “No thanks, I’m busy.”
  “Right now?” Kevin was getting closer to me and I felt myself getting more nervous.
  “Yeah, my mom’s expecting me home soon. She gets worried when I miss curfew.”
   “C’mon, you’ll be in safe hands. Relax, baby.”
  But I couldn’t relax, not with that sinister look in his green eyes nor with the way his friends were eyeing me. Why couldn’t guys just take a hint?    Just when I was about to break out into a run, Dallas pulled up to us in his car, blasting “Hound Dog”. Kevin’s attention immediately went to Dallas and I only relaxed slightly.
   “What are you doin here, Greaser?” Kevin sneered.
   “Could ask you the same thing, Soc,” Dallas said.
   He cut off the engine, got out of the car, and walked over to me and stood at my side.
   “I’m askin Y/N to go out with me,” Kevin said.
   “And it looks like the lady doesn’t want to, isn’t that right, Y/N?”
   “Yes, I told him I wasn’t interested.”
   Dallas turned to Kevin. “You hear that, the lady isn’t interested, so why don’t you go back to the south side and try to sweet talk one of your ladies into a date.”
   Kevin stepped forward and Dallas whipped out his knife.
   “I wouldn’t try anything if I were you.”
   Kevin’s eyes widened and he glared at Dallas than at me.
   “You made a big mistake, both of you.”
   He slunked back over to his friends and Dallas put his knife away.
   “Thank you, Dallas, I really owe you one.”
   “How bout a date?”
   I groaned. “Can neither you nor Kevin take a hint?”
  “Can I at least drive you home? It’s a far walk from here.”
  I glanced at Dallas’ car before looking back up at him. “Fine, no funny business.”
  “Never.”    Dallas opened the car door for me and then got in on the driver’s side before pulling off into the night.
   “So, Kevin’s been after you for a while, huh?”
   “Yeah, don’t really know why.”
    Dallas scoffed. “Are you serious?”
  “As a heart attack.”
   “Y/N, you’re the most gorgeous girl in this town, of course all the boys are going to be after you.”
   “So that’s why you’ve been after me to go out with you? Because you like the way that I look?”
   “No, but I’d be lyin’ if I said that wasn’t part of it.”
    I frowned and turned towards him. “Then what is it? What about me makes you so adamant about asking me out every chance you get?”
    Dallas sighed. “You’re smart, almost scary smart, and you don’t take crap from anyone, namely me. You’re tough in a way that I’m not and you can cut me down unlike anybody else.” Dallas glanced at me. “And while we’re on the subject, why won’t you go out with me?”
   “Because I heard about what you did in New York and I know about your time in the cooler. I appreciate what you did tonight but that doesn’t really change things.”
   Dallas’ grip on the wheel got harder and it was obvious that he didn’t like my response, but it was the truth. “I know I did bad things in New York, but I’m different now.”
   “Dallas---”
   “Forget about it.”
   The rest of the drive was silent, save for the music softly playing from the radio. It felt torturous until we finally got to my house. He pulled up and parked.
   “I’m awful sorry if I hurt you, I didn’t mean to, it’s just----being with you would be kind of frightening----interesting, I’m sure, but frightening. And I do really appreciate what you did for me at Dairy Queen. How lucky am I that you pulled up just in time?”
   “It wasn’t luck. “
   “Huh?”
   Dallas turned to me. “Don’t have a cow, alright, but I’ve been hanging around the Dairy Queen making sure no one messes with you.”
   I frowned. “But, how have I not noticed you?”
   “I’m real good at hiding, Y/N.”
   His cockiness returned but it didn’t mask how sweet his actions had been. Ever since he learned that I worked at Dairy Queen, he made sure I got home safely? Maybe Dallas Winston wasn’t so bad after all.
   Before I could really think about it, I leaned forward and pecked Dallas’ cheek. “Y/B/F/N closes tomorrow. Pick me up at eight.”
   Dallas face broke into a giddy grin that I never saw before. “See you then, sweet cheeks.”
   I rolled my eyes, hoping he noticed that over the blush burning on my cheeks. My parents were going to be livid once they found out about us, but what was life without a few risks?
Don't cha know I'm in love
A/N: Okay so I have the song “Uptown Girl” stuck in my head so that’s kinda what this song is based off of, ya feel? Curly is such a fucking complex character and I wrote him my way.
PSA: That Was Then, This Is Now is on YouTube also I’m on mobile so this formatting is shitty, also I didn’t proof read
Word Count: 2703 words
Curly x Reader
Warnings: Idfk, swear words ig —————– Let’s Begin ——————- In the middle. That’s what you were. You weren’t a greaser nor a soc but you had friends in both categories. You were best friends with Sherri Valance and Angela Shepard, the three of you were unlikely friends. You were always caught hanging around with Ponyboy, Johnny, and the whole gang. Cherry would constantly invite you to hang out with her and Bob to which the answer was always no. Bob was a complete asshole and so were his friends. You met Angela’s brother Curly when you were 8, he wasn’t as bad back then but he always felt the need to upstage his older brother Tim. He would always tag along with you and Angela but you didn’t see him as much anymore since he was in and out of the reformatory for awhile. He managed to be released and today the Shepard gang was having a party for him which meant that you had the job of inviting your main greasers. You inched up the stairs of the Curtis residence and the door swung open, revealing Sodapop.
“You guys! Our little uptown girl is here!” You rolled your eyes at the nickname that he had given you so many years ago. Out of the gang, Soda was the easiest one to talk to when it came to boys and relationships. He was an absolute sweetheart but he’d get down and dirty if he needed to protect you or the boys.
“Maybe you should change the name to middle-class girl.” You poked your tongue out as you teased him. “Uptown girl has a better ring to it. It also sounds cool when we’re called the backstreet guys.” “You mean the Backstreet Boys?” “No (Y/N). Uptown girl is always looking for the backstreet guys.” You sighed before shaking your head, “It’d sound better if you said downtown boys.” You were met with the sound of a pencil scribbling across a piece of paper before hearing, “Ponyboy is going to write a song about you. Did you get that Pone?” Soda peeked over Pony’s shoulder as Pony read,
“Uptown girl, she’s been living in her uptown world, I bet she’s never had a backstreet guy, I bet her mama never told her why… That’s all I have for now.” The whole room filled with laughter when Johnny brought out a guitar and started playing some chords to go along with Pony’s new poem. “I came to invite you guys to the Shepards party tonight not to have a song written about me.” You laughed before Two-Bit piped up, “Are you excited to see your Romeo?” He was met with an eye roll and a quick, “he doesn’t like me that way.” “(Y/N), man. The boy has the hots for you.” A chorus of yups and who wouldn’t’s filled the air, causing you to blush.
Curly was stone cold and hardheaded. He never wanted to admit when he was wrong and he prided himself on the amount of arrests he’s had. He was never serious about relationships but he was always there for you. When you got a lead in the school musical he was the one who dragged Angela to go and see it. The whole time he was going on and on saying things like “what the fuck is this shit? Fucking stupid that’s what this is.” and “nobody actually does that in real life.” But he was lowkey enjoying himself and his smile widened once graced the stage with your presence. Curly even brought you flowers but reminded you, “don’t think too much about it. I just didn’t want you to be embarrassed about not getting any flowers.” You just smiled at him and reassured him that his bad boy image was still present and that you were thankful for his thoughtfulness even though you had several bouquets of flowers in your hands. On your birthday he had stolen a pearl necklace for you but quickly added, “You know I can’t afford to buy you pearls but I can steal some for you, so be fucking grateful.” Unbeknownst to you, his face lit up every time he saw you wearing the necklace.
Darry pulled you out of your thoughts when he said, “Don’t let them bother you. Just go home and get ready, we’ll pick you up say 8 o'clock and then head over to Buck’s.” On the way out you were met with Cherry’s smiling face, “I knew you’d be here! I want to help you get ready for the party.” She wiggled her brows suggestively before pulling you towards your house which sat directly in the middle of the South and East side. Sherri decided that she wasn’t going to go to the party because she didn’t want to be the reason that Bob started shit with the gang. So instead of being your wing-woman, she was going to dress you to the nines. ——————-Time Skip —————— Your body was clad in a yellow pinup dress while your feet were snug in your white vans. Your makeup was ideal and it accented your (E/C) eyes, making them glisten in the moonlight. Your stomach erupted into a flurry of butterflies as time ticked down. You were about to see Curly for the first time in months and you didn’t know what to expect. He always bragged to Angela that you were his better half but what if that changed? You wouldn’t be able to blend into the scene and hide from him since you were wearing a bright ass yellow dress but you wore it because Curly loved the color on you. If you had it your way he wouldn’t be in and out of the reformatory, he’d be home with you.
Meanwhile, Curly had dragged Angela into his room and said, “What the fuck do I wear, Angel?” Angela smirked at the nickname because she knew that she was anything but. “Since when were you worried about wearing the wrong thing?” “Since (Y/N) is fucking going to be there! Is that what you wanted to hear, you cold hearted bitch.” “Wear one of those nice button ups that you stole and some jeans. Oh! Also wear your jacket, not that you could forget it but bring it just in case she gets cold.” “Angela this isn’t a fucking movie and I’m not going to sling my jacket over her shoulders and be cold myself.” “You know you’d fucking do it you big softie. You really like her even though you wouldn’t say so. If you want a girl like that, you’ve gotta treat her right.” “Get out of my fucking room.” Angela exited as Curly threw himself on the bed, burying his head in his hands. He always went for broads but with you it was different. You couldn’t be classified in that category, you were too good for that label. He wanted to prove to you that he’s good enough and that he’s worth your time. You were his better half and maybe if you were around more he’d change his ways. Not fully of course but enough to stop going to the reformatory. “Ready to go, you little shit?” Tim’s head peaked into Curly’s room and with that, they left. ————- Bitch it’s party time ————– When you stepped outside of your front door you were met with the boys dressed fairly nice. “Shit, you guys look sexy.” You announced this as you guys started walking to Buck’s. “Don’t you look beautiful as ever, (Y/N).” Steve slung an arm over your shoulder as he said this, causing you to let out a snort while laughing. “Aren’t you something, Randle?” It was a fairly nice walk filled with banter and giggles but upon arriving at Buck’s you started to freak out.
All of the guys made their entrance while Dally stayed back with you. “Stop freaking out, man. You’re making me feel nauseous for you.” You glared at Dally and responded with, “Dallas, what if he’s changed? What if he doesn’t like me anymore? I should’ve stayed home.” You rambled on and on which led Dally to put his hand over your mouth. “Shut the fuck up already. You look like an angel among us all and if he doesn’t like you then he can go suck a dick. You can find someone better than him if he’s going to mess with your emotions. You’re a good kid and you’re gonna have fun, yadda yadda yadda. Let’s go fucking party now because this pep talk is over.” You smiled because you could tell that Dallas cared for you. The two of you walked in an were met with dim red lights and alcohol.
Out of everyone, Tim spotted you first. “Hey (Y/N)! Angela’s over there. Have a good time okay?” He ruffled your hair before pushing you in Angela’s direction. “FUCKING SHIT! MY BEST FRIEND LOOKS LIKE A GODDESS. I’M ABOUT READY TO DIE OVER HERE, YOU LOOK SO FINE.” You were met with an embrace and a whisper in your ear which said, “Bitch, Curly is over by the stairs leaning against the wall. He’s been waiting for you all night. If you were anyone else I wouldn’t let you talk to him but you’re you so go get your man.” She pulled away and stuck her tongue out before grinding on some dude. “How much money did someone pay you to wear that?” You yelled this over the music while walking towards Curly.
“Get lost broad, I’m waiting for someone.” The boy was glancing at the door, his eyes were looking at anything but you. How stupid is he? How did he miss you walking in if he’s been staring at the entrance all night. “Call me a broad one more time and I’ll punch your fucking teeth in.” Curly froze and slowly turned around before pulling you in by your waist. “I’ve missed you so fucking much, you don’t even understand.” “Curly, are you sniffing my hair?” He rose a brow and said, “Yeah. Problem?” You shook your head before gesturing towards his outfit. “You look nice! Why are you so dressed up?” If you looked close enough you could’ve sworn that he was blushing. “Just wanted to look presentable for a certain Uptown Girl.” He was met with a shove and giggles. “Curly Shepard got all dressed up for lil ol’ me?” “Shut up before I leave.” “You can’t leave, it’s your party.” “I’ll leave and I’ll take you with me.” “What’s stopping you?” Next thing you know you’re being dragged away from Buck’s and all the way to the alley down by the tracks. “As much as I like it here, I’m not looking for any confrontation tonight. Let’s go to the lot.”
You began pulling him in the direction of the lot before he said, “You make me want things that I can’t have.” Stopping dead in your tracks you turned to him and asked, “What are you thinking about?” “When ever I’m out of the reformatory I come to see you. It’s always been you. I scare away anyone who even has the thought of hitting on you because you make me feel things. I hate myself so much for these fucking feelings.” You walked closer towards him and urged him to go on.
“I should’ve told you that I felt this way a long time ago but I didn’t want to screw things up. You have everything going for you, (Y/N). You’re the Uptown girl and I don’t want to drag you down with me. The Shepard gang only gets worse with age and I don’t want to be the reason that you don’t succeed in life because damn it, you deserve so much more than this.” Curly sighed and ran a hand through his hair while his eyes became glassy.
“Curly Shepard. I am so in love with you that I want to throw up whenever I’m near you. You make me a good kind of nervous. You’re always there for me when I’m doing productions or feeling down. You have this whole, I hate the world, persona but with me you’re different. You just need someone to love you and show you that there’s still good in this world. I can be that person.” Your arms looped around his neck as he let out a nervous sigh. “I feel like I can’t breathe, (Y/N).” Your fingers danced across his face, tracing every single trait and then they played in his curls. “I can’t let you get mixed up with me. I can’t lose you. I can’t let you throw your life away for me. I can-”
Soft lips were met with another pair. Delicate and pillow like. He tasted like cigarettes and alcohol mixed with a bit of icing from the cake they had at the party. You tasted like chocolate covered strawberries and all things sweet. He couldn’t pull you in any closer but he damn well tried. You guys ran your fingers all over one another in the most passionate kiss there was. Although you initiated it, he deepened it and kissed you softly as though you could break. Both of you guys pulled away in a dire need for air after your tongues just battled for dominance. “I’m willing to help you better yourself if you’d let me. I don’t necessarily want to change you because I love who you are. But if you’re scared of dragging me down, we can build each other up together.” “I’d like that. So we’re in agreeance that you’re mine and I’m yours?” You nodded before leaning your head on his shoulder as you guys continued your walk to the lot.
You shivered a bit, swearing because you were going to bring your jacket but Cherry didn’t let you. “Here.” Curly slid off his near and dear leather jacket then proceeded to help you slide your arms through the sleeves. “Shit. I’ll have to thank Angela for this later.” He whispered it under his breath but you caught on putting two and two together. Angela and Cherry must’ve planned it out so that this moment would happen, you definitely had to thank them later. At the lot you guys stared at the stars and traced each other’s features. He stared at you with loving eyes as you fell asleep in his embrace.
Johnny and Ponyboy happened to be on their way to the lot and when they saw you two, Pony whipped out his notepad. “Why were you carrying that, Pone?” Johnny gestured towards the notepad and pencil “New song lyrics, man.” He scribbled before turning the notepad so that Johnny could read it. “She’ll see I’m not so tough Just because I’m in love with an uptown girl You know I’ve seen her in her uptown world She’s getting tired of her high class toys And all her presents from her uptown boys She’s got a choice” After seeing the lyrics, Johnny dragged Pony to the Curtis household in dire need of his guitar to put the lyrics to music. ~ Fin ~
Jk there’s a bonus part: “I swear to who ever the fuck is up there in the sky that if you hurt our little uptown girl, I will personally take care of you.” Dally had Curly’s shirt balled in his fist but was met with laughter. Right in Dally’s face, Curly said, “Hey Pony did you hear that? No? I could’ve sworn that I heard a little bitch!” “We’re serious man, we’ll hurt you.” Curly nodded and said, “I could never hurt that girl in a million years and if I did, you guys could personally kill me but make sure you let Angela get in on it.”
